Q: ThinkPad Yoga 260 touchpad stops working and does ...

Hi, I bought a Thinkpad Yoga 260 two weeks ago and it has this annoying problem that touchpad stops responding time to time. It can happen during working with laptop for few seconds or just completely goes off that I have to restart the machine. Also sometimes when it wakes up the touchpad does not respond. Please advise if I have to send it back or there is a fix for it. I have all drivers updated and lenovo companion does not find any issue regarding driver date or hardware defect. I am really disappointed for this price tag receving such a poor quality device. Parham

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a problem with my Thinkpad Yoga 460 which started to occur about 2 weeks ago. Sometimes after bootup the keyboard does not work when I have to supply my passphrase for the hard disk encryption. The solution I have in this situation is to turn the battery of in the UEFI setup. Then pressing the power button for 10 seconds and then enabling the battery again with the power cable. This works reliable to fix the issue, but it is very annoying and when I am at the university there is no socket to enable the battery again. Is something broken or is there a workaround for this issue?

I experienced a bizarre problem today and although I've resolved it now I thought I'd post it here just in case someone else experiences the same issue. The issue was in regards to WiFi not working properly on my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1. After a restart my computer's internet (with WiFi on) would work for a few minutes then it would stop. Long story short, I tried various things, and even uninstalled Norton and other software which I thought may have been a culprit but still the same issue. I also used a USB to Ethernet port (since there is no built in Ethernet port in the ThinkPad Yoga) and connected my computer with a cable and disabled the WiFi to see if it was the wireless hardware not working. Unfortunately still the same issue. Finally I noticed in the Windows Task Manager a process called "Discover.exe". It turned out this was using some noticeable amount of CPU and wondered what this was doing as I hadn't seen that before. I found out that this was a piece of software bundled in with my computer called Lenovo EMC Storage Connector. I'm not sure why it was running but I ended this process. Viola, suddenly my internet was working again! This time no problems.I uninstalled this software utility to make sure this doesn't cause this issue again. I can't understand why Lenovo bundles this software but this seems to have a serious defect and has cost me hours of trying to work out what was going wrong. I hope this is hel... I have two staff members with different Yoga models, but with the same pen issue. Say, for instance, OneNote is open. The pen doesn't draw or write, but it can select and still be recognized. When I try using an old stylus from an HP Elitebook, it works TOTALLY fine - even the button on the pen functions properly. This suddenly started after months of the Lenovo pens working fine. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but it can't be as the HP pen works.... I'm thinking it's the pen itself just getting worn down? It looks okay though but may be just a little loose... Any help / direction would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all, Amongst its main problem of the screen retentions my Yoga has a really annoying problem of when you are using the touchpad and use a single tap to click, the touchpad makes a hollow clicky noise. It's difficult to explain but inexplicably annoying...........if you press it down hard and engage the left click button it may disappear for a while but soon comes back......Anyone else suffer from this? Seem to notice it more when keyboard vertical E.g when using in bed...... Thanks Steve

Mine was the same since new.. Just fixed it and its really simple. Unscrew the back & carefully remove,Unplug and remove the battery (5? screws careful not to overtighten on reassemly, plastic holes are weak)Unscrew and remove the touchpad (6 screws)Get some alcohol (IPA) (Isopropanol Alchohol, not Indian Pale Ale) on a cotton bud and wipe the sticky adhesive that has crept out from underneath the 2 tiny black plastic pads that are stuck to the stainless steel metalwork (on the touch pad).  Ironically, i suspect these pads are there to stop the sheet metal from "clacking" against the case metalwork casting when you let go of the TP, unfortunately the adhesive has leached round to the front of the pad and makes a nasty smacking noise everytime you put the lightest of pressure ont he TP. picture some goop between your thumb and forfinger and the noise it makes when you try and separate them. hope this helps, it was driving me bonkers.

Hi guys, I've got a Thinkpad S1 Yoga 8GB i5 with a standard HDD 500GB and what I've notice is:one barely notices that the HDD is spinning when starting up or when left idle after booting.I can move the laptop around and the HDD is always as quiet. I bought another Thinkpad S1 Yoga 4GB i3 with the same standard HDD 500GB and I'm noticing the following differences, so wondering if there's some kind of a problem with that hard drive? As soon as you power it up the HDD starts spinning and it's quite loud (compared to the laptop above, ie, it's not really loud as such, but compared to my 1st one you can definately notice that it's spinning whereas the other one is almost always quiet). It keeps continuously spinning once it's booted up, even when idle (and even though the task manager and resource monitor doesn't indicate anything using the disk, it's reported as 0% usage a lot of times)then when I move the laptop the most minimum, the HDD stops spinning and then starts again, so if I'm using it in on the move, you can notice that the HDD is continuously stopping and then starting, which seems quite weird to me. I had never noticed that before. I've tried Win 7 pro, Win 8.1 pro and Win 10 pro and it's happening in all of them. The Lenovo diagnostics for that HDD don't report any problem either.... Any idea if the 2nd HDD is behaving correctly? or anything I could change to make it work like my 1st laptop? Thank you!

Hello, I bought my first lenovo computer and already ran in a few issues which I fixed after sometime except one that I cannot find anywhere. When I press a button on keyboard the touchpad locks for a single second and that really annoys in a graphical applications or games. I found a few posts that people fixed on older lenovos with turning off on palmsense on elan pointing device, but when I did it on the newest version it changed nothing so I decided to uninstall ELAN software completely and I got into another problem, that gestures don't work of course and now it got reversed but have the same problem still can't use them at the same time. I just got my X1 Yoga yesterday, and for the most part it's quite nice.  I've got a bit of an issue with the touchpad though.  Has anybody else noticed that it's a bit "floaty"?  With just the slightest touch (i.e. even less weight than typical usage), the whole touchpad surface will sink maybe 1mm or less, until it's flush with the bottom groove.  When I let my finger up, the touchpad surface will bounce back until it's flush with the palm rest.  When it does this, it produces a slight "thunk" and sounds as if the entire palm rest is making a clicking sound.  I'm not talking about when I press down to click either -- that works as expected.  Is this supposed to be normal?  I use an E450 thinkpad at work, and the touchpad surface is rock solid and does not shift position. I took a video to illustrate what I mean and attached it here in the zip file (since a mp4 file is not a supported file format for uploading)

I have a ThinkPad Yoga S1 with a clean and up-to-date installation of Windows 10 Pro. Synaptics driver version 19.0.17.27 is installed.Two-finger touchpad scrolling rarely works in several UWP/Metro apps such as Calendar and Groove Music. When I attempt to scroll, a little crosshair appears on the screen and moves up and down instead of moving the page. Every once in a while it actually does scroll, but only at random and immediatey stops working again.Strangely enough, if the UWP window is in the background behind another window and isn't currently in focus, two-finger scrolling works fine. Non-UWP/Metro applications do not seem to be affected by this problem.Any help would be greatly appreciated.-gyokuroEDIT: I found a temporary workaround right after I posted this that doesn't fix the issue, but at least makes it less of an annoyance until this is fixed. If you click on the taskbar and then try to scroll in a UWP app, it works fine, and the tiny crosshair doesn't appear either.

Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

As the title says, my trackpoint, keyboard backlight and touchpad have stopped working. The problem happened a few weeks after I updated from windows 8.1 to windows 10. I have tried updating ultranav drivers, resetting windows 10 (which was a bit of a pain given that I will now have to reinstall all my software) and then reverting to windows 8.1 after none of the above worked. Fortunately my touchscreen and mouse support is still ok, but I can't work in low light conditions without my keyboard light. Can anyone help? I see that some Yoga 12 users report similar problems after a fuse fails. Does anyone know if this occurs on the S1 Yoga?

This is meant as a bug report. Hopefully someone from Lenovo is reading this. I have a ThinkPad Yoga X1 (1st gen). A few days ago, the System Update utility updated the touchpad driver to version 19.3.4.119. I'm having 2 issues: 1) I do not use my touchpad and therefore disable it. However, every time my machine comes out of sleep or reboots, the touchpad is re-enabled. I disable it "correctly" by going to (Start Menu) -> (Mouse Settings) -> (Additional Mouse Options) -> (ThinkPad tab) -> Uncheck "Enable touchpad".  2) If I enable the touchpad and click the settings button next to "Enable touchpad", the Synaptics Control Panel window appears. This window is very unresponsive. And when I click on the "Click" tab, I get repeated errors that "The parameter value is invalid."  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver to no avail. I cannot find an older version of the driver at Lenovo's website. Please fix.

I am running the latest drivers from Lenovo's website and I have noticed that after a while (possibly after putting my computer to sleep and waking it up again), the ETD Control Center (which must be running in order to have full touchpad functionality) will constantly use ~30% CPU. This obviously impacts battery life, but it also makes my laptop produce more heat and noise than it would otherwise, while running slower. It is undesirable behavior. I have already tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them, running the older version, or running the newer version. Nothing helps. Whenever this software is running, it does not take long before it is thrashing my CPU. Currently I am running the latest version of the software that is available on Lenovo's website, and I have updated everything possible using Lenovo's update software. I am running windows 10 and have the Elan touchpad drivers installed. [screenshot below]ETD Control Center ~30% Constant CPU use Has anyone else had this problem with the elan touchpad/windows 10 combination? If so, what is the resolution? Thanks for your help!

the main problem is that the buttons are integrated and sensitive to the finger position.
Therefore the pointer jumps on every click and so misses the click point.
This is a terrible behavior that makes the Laptop unusable.
It is a pitty that I wasted a lot of money for such a primitive and unuseable hardware.

Therefore I want to report this problem and warn others not to make the same mistake.

Another problem with the touchpad is, that is that the front area is much more insensitive to tapping than the back. But also clicking is not possible in that area because the touchpad can only tilt to the back and so the force is to high to click in the front. In summary that means the buttons are broken and tapping is broken. So the touchpad is completely screwed up and useless. What a piece of ... Laptop. What a shame for a Thinkpad. I thought Thinkpads were better not worse. This is my first Thinkpad and I am very disappointed.

Hi

I was not able to find anything interesting on the support site of your model:

I checked the change on the ELAN drivers from 12/1/2016, but it does not says anything about the touchpad not recovering from tablet mode.

If you already installed this driver and didn't work, I don't have more ideas about it.

I have had my Dell Inspiron 7559 for about a week now, it runs windows 10. Over the past few days the trackpad has started to not work. At first the single tap (left click) didn't work. But the left click button worked fine and the two tap (right click) worked fine too. I restarted it, single tap works again.
This happened a couple more times and I decided to investigate. There was no touchpad on my mouse settings, only a HID-compliant mouse and a PS/2 Compatible Mouse. I don't have any mice. I did a driver update for both of the above and ELAN input device showed up. I did a driver update for it and it worked ok for a couple of hours and it said it is working properly. However if stopped working again and I went back to the settings and whilst windows 10 settings said the trackpad was on, the ELAN tab on the mouse properties said that the Elan smart-pad was not enabled it and restarted. When I went back to the same settings after the restart, it was not enabled again. So I enabled it. Two hours later, the trackpad was back to not registering single taps. Enabling and disabling the ELAN trackpad appears to do nothing.
The next day, single tap stopped working and then all the buttons and taps stopped working but scroll/zoom etc still worked. I restarted and it worked again. Later on it had the issue that the trackpad would only select things on the start bar. Once you opened something you couldn't click at all. Again I restarted and it "fixed"... Read more

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing.  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only three days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.
These were both brand new computers with the exact same issue.  Is Dell simply incapable of making a decent computer any more?  I used to love Dell; this was my fifth Dell computer, but maybe it's time to look elsewhere.

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

I also have not installed anything recently.

Hello. My month old E560 has been great until recently, when the touchpad has decided to play up on me.What happens after a while of use, the touchpad will begin not responding to my gestures, finger movements, sliding, etc. It will sporadically work for maybe a fraction of a second after, but 99% of the time when I frantically draw circles with my finger it will not respond. This proves it is NOT the touchpad completely disabling/turning off, etc. There are no issues with the trackpoint or any hardware buttons. Even right clicking with the touchpad does what it's supposed to.  This is on the most up to date version of ALP Lenovo Ultranav drivers for the e560 from the Lenovo website. I have found that uninstalling this driver (and thus using Windows' default touchpad driver) prevents Lenovo-specific multitouch features such as twofinger scrolling, and also slightly changes what the middleclick does, but at least prevents the issue of an unresponsive touchpad which is the most important feature. Usually, a quick restart solves this issue. But after the computers shut down and started up again after a while of being off, the issue will occur again. I am running Windows 10 home 64 bit with, as said, the most recent Lenovo-issued ALPS Ultranav driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The tap to click function on my touch pad will stop working randomly and start dragging the item around instead. Will then have to fully click down on the touch pad to navigate between tabs etc. The scroll function also stops at random, but after restart it all returns to normal until the next time it stops working. Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

Now that the video flickering issue has been resolved, I am now frequently encountering a very frustrating problem with my new XPS 13 (9343).   If I stop using the touchpad for a few minutes (not sure how many, sometimes it's 1 or 2, sometimes its 30), then mouse pointer disappears completely and the touchpad does not respond.  I can click, swipe, tap, etc. but there is no pointer.  When it happens I am forced to use the touch screen to shut down the machine and restart it so I can get the touchpad and pointer to work again.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

A:XPS 13 (9343) Touchpad stops working

I have the same problem. I am using Windows 10 Pro. I have tried every touchpad driver version I could find with no luck. I am currently using this driver: Cypress Semiconductor, Inc, dated 6/24/2015, version 2.5.1.72.
I often find it happening when playing a youtube video or something like that, but that's probably just because I don't use the trackpad for a few minutes while watching the video.
When it happens the mouse pointer is either completely gone, or it is "frozen" in some random position on the screen and the trackpad is not moving it. It happens once or twice a day for me, and I then restart the PC to fix - annoying.
I feel 99% certain that it is a driver issue - and that no driver has been created for the Cypress Trackpad in the PC that actually works in Windows 10. If anybody know of a driver that actually works I'd love to get the details.

I have an Acer Aspire One D250 with a synaptics touchpad bought on March 20th which hasn't given me any problems till 3 days ago.

Friday, when I turned the computer on, the touchpad wasn't working. I tried Fn+F7 and nothing. The usual synaptics animated icon wasn't beside the clock. I went to the control panel>mouse>device settings and no device was listed there, while all the options were greyed out. I went to system>device manager and no "Mouse and other pointing devices" was listed. I went to Acer.pt (I'm from portugal) and downloaded the driver and installed it. The instalation went without problems and when I restarted the computer, the touchpad was still not working and nothing was listed on the device manager.

I called the Acer support line and the told me to restore the OS. I spent friday doing backups and I reinstalled Windows XP from Acer eRecovery Management. After all that, the touchpad wasn't working still.

Saturday was spent going to the store where I bought the netbook and trying to find a solution. Just as when I was going to give the netbook to warranty, a guy turned the computer on and the touchpad was magically working again.

I went home, all happy and warm and fuzzy inside.

Today, when I was copying my backups to the netbook again, I hit "cancel", and the icon next to the clock disappered and the touchpad stoped working again. Went to check, and nothing was listed on the device manager or on contro... Read more

If the Acer Factory Restore failed to fix it and it intermittently comes and goes its likely a hardware issue. I'd be contacting Acer again and sending the unit in for warranty service.

Hi,
I'm configuring a brand new IBM thinkpad for a friend. It came all set up and everything seems great (HUGE system!) but I can't get the touch pad to work, only the red button in the middle, along with the corresponding red buttons. The touchpad and black buttons do not work, and it seems that there should be a way to toggle back and forth. I am checking the IBM website as we speak, but I usually get my answers quicker here!
Thanks, TW

Both should. Try the BIOS, there may be a setting in there.

I recently got a friend of mine get me a Thinkpad P50 laptop from US (I live in India). Since beginning I am having issues with the touchpad. Initially the touchpad (including touchpad keys and the trackpopint) would work for some time and then stop responding completely until rebooted. However since last few days the touchpad is completely dead. I get a message whenever I start the laptop that touchpad was not detected. I have tried installing drivers for the touchpad from lenovo website as well as doing a factory reset, but nothing seems to have worked so far. I also took the laptop to the lenovo service center in India, but they have refused to look into the issue, since the laptop was purchased in US and the Lenovo website does not list India as a country where international warrenty for this laptop is applicable. Infact the site for this laptop is blank and does not show any country. Any suggestions what I should be doing next to resolve this would be greately appreciated.

I currently have a HP pavilion tx2520ae laptop and now and again whilst im am working on it i suddenly get the message 'synaptics touchpad has stopped working with two options saying : close and check for a problem online and close', after this message appears the touchpad still works, however the scroll bar for the laptop does not, this is an inconvenience as i do alot of my school portfolios on my laptop, some of which are nearly 100 pages long and i am constantly editing it, so i need the scroll bar to save me time and effort.

When i restart the laptop however this problem is corrected, but after a while it appears again and constantly restarting the laptop every 10 minutes is just too much effort to waste on fixing a simple scroll bar.

When the message appeared, I had tried to go onto the mouse options on the control pannel and i got an error message saying 'unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver. if you have installed another PS/2 pointing driver please unistall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. you then need to reinstall your pointing divce driver for your external device again.
Do you want to unistall the synaptics driver now?'

I have not installed any PS/2 pointing drivers but I decided to try and reinstall it again just to be sure but when I reinstalled it i had to restart my computer and when i came back on it was working fine... for a while. The message appeared again and reinstalling it was just a comp... Read more

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working. I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work. If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

so, EVERY TIME I close(and re open) my laptop lid the touchpad stops working. seemed to happen after a win X update(not upgrade TO win x) it is so extremely frustrating. the only way i can get it to respond again is to reboot. I have tried disabling and reenabling the touchpad, updating drivers, and nothing seems to help.
