Preferred Solution: Outlook 6 downloads duplicate message

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have had to use WinXP's "File Settings & transfer Wizard" several times over the last few years, and every single time I do so, all the messages in Outlook Express get duplicated.

So now I have hundreds (maybe thousands) of duplicated messages.

And I only need just one copy. Really, one is enough.

I've Googled quite a bit and cannot find a free/trial/shareware utility that will do this. It seems like it should be a fairly common problem, but for some reason I am unable to find a utility to fix the problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated & thanks in advance,

Also if you are getting your emails from a private server disable your AV firewall softwares mail scanning OFF. These softwares cause the outlook express/outlook to send multiple signals to the server and receive tons of duplicates if they are not configured right or have a competability problem with the server. Hello,

I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

I've noticed in the last week that whenever I double-click a sub-folder in the Downloads folder, it opens TWO identical new windows. It's super annoying and wasnt happening before. I scanned for Malware AND ran MS Defender. Both came out clean.

I should add that my Windows Explorer also now crashes every now and then. Meaning all my Explorer windows close down but Windows still operates.

Any tips on whats going on and how to fix this?

I've had this problem for years. My Windows Live Mail 2012 frequently (not always) downloads duplicates of every new email. The email protocol is POP3. Someone suggested I should use IMAP. I tried it. . . but, at least with Comcast's system, IMAP duplicates what's on the server. . . which can go back several years of emails. . . which I DO NOT want to retain. Comcast provides no option to delete emails older that X days, so when I switched to IMAP, every g.d. email I've received in the last 3 years downloaded to my Inbox. So I went back to POP3.

So why do I get duplicates?

I have computer 1 with Office 365 Outlook - with email account. If I have a second computer and copy the .pst file from one computer to the other, I know that when I open Outlook all the existing emails will be there, calendar, etc. But if I have Outlook set to leave messages on the server, will the old messages be downloaded causing duplicates? I know that Outlook keeps an ID record of emails that are downloaded - but is this kept within the *pst file? If so then it should work that I can copy the *pst file and carry on without duplicates. I can understand that if I created a new blank account with nothing in it, then the old files would download...but will this still happen if I just copy & paste the email *pst account file across (keeping the name the same) - same Office 365....

Hi. Hoping the experts on here can help me out.

I receive the message "A duplicate name exists on the network" when I start up my desktop. I am using Windows XP Home edition on an e-Machines. It has SP2 and I have searched all the available tutorials for this fix and can't find it.

I have isolated it to the "workstation" services in the windows services through msconfig but can't figure out how to fix it other than leaving the system service turned off. I can't do that forever, and I am hoping someone knows how the heck I can fix this problem. It just showed up out of the blue. Microsoft is no help. They want $60 to tell me they can't help me, and I am not willing to pay that for very little assistance, if any.

Thank to anyone who knows the answer. I am forever grateful.

Hi,

Someone sent me an email with jpg attachments, let's say pic1.jpg, size 1MB. When I received it, I have 2 jpgs - pic1.jpg 1MB (of course), and another one with the same name but much smaller size pic1.jpg, 50KB. Sender told me that he only sent 1 jpg file.

Does anyone know why? and is there anything I can do to stop the smaller one come?

Thanks.

A:duplicate JPG attachments in Outlook 2003

The sender probably has a setting in their end to "break apart" attachments over s certain size (possibly 1 MB by the sound of it). So the file gets sent as multiples of that size, plus whats left over (20 kB in your case).

When any attachment is emailed, the file size is quite a lot larger in transit due to the transport method and HTML encoding (email systems were never originally designed for attachments so it is quite inefficient at doing it)

The sender needs to check out their settings to stop the splitting. The settings will be wholly dependent on what email client they use.

Hi Guys

We have a problem at the moment where some users send out an email with upto 14 attachments on it, these could be word docs, PDFs or V Cards. They check the attachments before they send the message and it all loks ok, but when they recieve it at the other end the attachments end up being a duplicate of the first attachment attached to the email but has kept its original names. When the sender looks in there sent items the email in there is also corrupt.

Another way of describing it could be....

"Just lately I started having the following problem. If I am sending more than one attachment of the same file type in an email the two attachments end up being the same even though the file name remains different. If I was to send two .jpg files named cat & dog (A picture of a cat and a dog) when you received the email from me the file names would still be cat & dog but the contents would be the same (Two pictures of the dog). Any help is appreciated as I am stumped."

do you have any rules that move mails to different folders? If you have a rule to move a mail based on which account it was sent to, and another rule to move mails based on content, and if a mail comes in that fits both, you will get a duplicate.

Hi,

I recently upgraded from Outlook 2000 to 2007 under XP SP2. I have three accounts on the same POP3 server. After installation, it threw errors importing some of my rules and disabled the rest. Some of these rules (now bad) were for moving emails arriving from each account and moving them to the appropriate folder. Since these rules wouldn't import properly (and were disabled) it put all new messages in the same folder. OK, easy enough to fix.

However, whenever I logged on it would also download duplicates of all my messages. Over 5000 messages. Sometimes triplicates. I spent around a day paintsakingly removing these. It's difficult because if I remove the wrong one, it deletes the original from my POP server. In other words, if a particular message has two or three dupes, only ONE of them is truly associated with the original (on server) and therefore cannot be deleted locally. I can however safely delete the other local copies (the original remains on the server). The problem it can be impossible to tell which copy points to the original and which doesn't. It's necessary to archive all messages on my POP server for accessing on other systems so deleting these isn't an option.

I then deleted the old rules and added new rules for putting the messages from each account into their proper folders. I immediately discovered what appears to be a new bug in 2007. Of the three accounts, when I make a rule to move messages received from account#3 and hit... Read more

Fortunately the duplicates do directly into my Deleted folder, but it is still tough navigating through Deleted email when in search of important email which went to Deleted automatically. A:Duplicate E-mails Outlook 2002

That behavior is typical if 2 accounts have been created to map to the Yahoo POP3 mail account. You can confirm this by clicking Tools in Outlook, clicking Email Accounts, and selecting the "View or change existing email accounts" option. Click next and you will see a list of the accounts set up. If you see mail.yahoo.com or something along those lines on there more than once, you may have to delete one of those. Unless you have multiple Yahoo email addresses mapped to your Outlook, there is no reason for 2 of them to be on this list, you can feel confident deleting the second one. If that is not the issue, post back with follow up and we'll see if we can't try something else!

XP pro SP3
Outlook 2003 SP3

Hi,

I'm having the problem where outlook 2003 (SP3) downloads the same emails more than once from my POP3 server. I have read countless forums on this and still haven't found a solution.

My situation is a little different from the others I've read but the problem it seems is the same. My laptop hard drive died recently and so I have installed a new one and restored my system from a ghost image. I have then used my .pst file from before the disk died, so I've kept all my contacts, calendar and mail, etc.

When I get outlook to download messages, I get duplicates of al my messages. I have about 20 email accounts with literally thousands of individual emails coming in. It seems if I delete them they don't come back again. I have outlook set to leave a copy on the server because I need to access my email from other locations. It is also set to delete when they are deleted from deleted items.

I've looked at my webmail and even when the mail marked as read, outlook still downloads the messages. Interestingly it didn't download old messages for my gmail account using POP3. But this is the only exception.

I read a microsoft KB article that said this issue was resolved in a hotfix that came out before SP2. I've got SP3 and it doesn't seem to be fixed.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don't want to be deleting emails one by one again.

Thanks for all our help,

Nick

Hello Everyone,

My Outlook has some duplicates of holidays and other appointments that I have in the future. I am looking for a tool that will automatically delete these on a one time basis, by prompting me. I do not want to have something installed in Outlook tht stays there as a plug-in, since I hope to not have this problem in the future.

Can you please recommend an Automatic Outlook Calendar/Appointment (possibly Tasks) Duplicate Remover?

Thanks for any help!

A:Outlook 2010 Duplicate Remover

I don't know of any way of doing this automatically without using a plug-in. If the number of duplicate calendar entries is not too large, you could do it manually using the following approach to make it easier and quicker:
Open your calendar in Outlook.
Choose View > Current View > All Appointments. This will make your calendar appear as a list.
Click on the column heading "Subject" to group entries by what they are called, or click on the column headed "Start" to group them by date.
It should be possible now to navigate to where the duplicates are in the list, and each pair of duplicates will be listed one after the other.
Left-click on the first entry you want to delete, then Ctrl-left click on any others you also want to delete.
When they are all highlighted, right-click on one of them and choose Delete from the drop-down menu.
When you are all done, go to View > Current View > Day/Week/Month (or whichever view you prefer).
Hopefully that should get rid of those pesky dupes reasonably quickly

Hi All.......I have XP and plan to upgrade to Windows 7. I originally had outlook express and because it can't be used on 7, I have switched to outlook. When I login or have been away from my pc for awhile, the server sends emails that are already in my inbox - but not all emails-just some!! Other times it will send over all of the emails - as many as 300!!! (I use my email for business and sometimes receive as many as 75 daily). I am on Yahoo/ATT & T. Also there is always a yellow triangle at the right lower corner that says "send/receive error". My pc "guru" can't fix the problem, and when I called Microsoft, I was transferred to several "techs" and hours later, some jerk tried to sell me something. I just hung up in utter frustration!! The only way I can avoid getting hundreds of dupes is to access my inbox at att.net daily and delete all the emails that have arrived on outlook. I am NOT a techie (probably obvious from this message) and would surely be most appreciative of what I need to do!!! I still have both outlook express and outlook on my pc and wonder if that could be the problem. (Still trying to figure out outlook's address book!!) Help!!! And again, many thanks!

I have XP Home, purchased in 2002, have not had this problem before. Have tried turning off the e-mail scanner in Norton anti-virus, but that did not solve the problem.

Thanks,

Can anyone tell me how to identify and delete duplicate identical messages in Outlook 98, please?

I use Windows NT 4.0, and the size of my offline mailbox folder in Outlook 98 is now 150Mb containing up to three copies of all messages I've received (caused by various human errors!). If I could remove the duplicates it would halve the mailbox size and then I could do some sensible archiving.

But I can't find any guidance on being able to identify the duplicates without having to manually wade through all 5,000 messages one by one. Any bright ideas, please?

Does anyone know of a quick way to get rid of duplicate contacts in Outlook?
(i.e 3 of each) I know I could use View | Phone list and manually delete, but wondering of there is a quick way? Sort/filter??

Thanks

A:Duplicate Contacts in Outlook (2003)

Hi there,

You should be able to use some code like this ...
Code:
Sub DeleteDups_Contacts()

Dim MyColl As Object
Dim ct As MAPIFolder, ci As ContactItem
Dim ns As NameSpace
Dim strFirst As String
Dim strTmp As String

Set MyColl = CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary")
Set ns = ThisOutlookSession.Session
Set ct = ns.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderContacts)

On Error Resume Next
For Each ci In ct.Items
If Not (MyColl.Exists(ci.FullName)) Then
MyColl.Add ci.FullName, "1"
Else
strTmp = strTmp & ci.FullName & vbNewLine
' ci.Delete
End If
Next

MsgBox "Deleted:" & vbNewLine & Trim(strTmp)
Set MyColl = Nothing

End Sub
To install, hit Alt + F11 | Insert | Module, paste on right. Put cursor in routine, press F5. Note I commented out the delete line, I'd run it once with it, then if you're sure the message is correct, uncomment the line (take out the ' sign) and run it.

HTH

Does such a thing exist?

This is a new family desktop, and one of our users (12 year old) has an issue downloading games and things. I can set the firewall to not allow him to download anything without admin password of course, but somebody in the house will tell him the password eventually.

So that leads me to just knowing what he's downloaded, and knowing about it relatively quickly. Even dispatching an email is better than nothing. Can I find this in windows firewall maybe?

A:Report all downloads to text message

Using Chrome if it makes a difference.

Good Morning All. Newbie here so be Gentle. I have searched Google and this forum site for the answer to my question and I cant find the answer.

currently I have a user using Outlook 2003. some times she sends duplicate messages to clients and to employees. It does not seem to be any pattern associated.

we are running Exchange on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard addition server.

I have ran a repair and fix on outlook. and I have also uninstalled and reinstalled outlook. Those did not seem to work.

any other fixes I could try?

I have in the past had the exact scenario for a user within my organization and this did the trick for me. Let me know how it works
1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
2. Click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next.
3. Click your POP3 e-mail account, and then click Change.
4. Click More Settings.
5. On the Advanced tab, uncheck/deselct the "Leave a copy of messages on the
server check box and then click OK.

Ok, I know why I am having a problem, but I don't know how to prevent it. I have a dual boot system with Vista32 and Vista 64. Both OS are on seperate partitions. I run Outlook 2007 on both OS installs and I only use pop3 mail. I have both installs of Outlook pointed to the same .pst file on a completely seperate drive. Everything works fine except I am getting duplicate emails because one Outlook doesn't know that the email has already been downloaded.

So, I am sharing the pst file, and I'd also like to share whatever file it is that tells Outlook which emails were already downloaded. Does this make sense? I am confusing myself just typing it.

I though about having Outlook remove the files from the pop server once downloaded, but I need them to be there for remote purposes.

Any thoughts? Hopefully somebody can relate.

Can someone tell me how to delete duplicate entries in my address book? I have exported into .csv and reloaded them, now I cannot find a way to remove (exact) duplicates either using Excel or any other duplicate file remover program. Most want to use only the value of email address, but this does not apply to my situation.

Title says it all. Duplicate emails from some - not all - senders.
How canii fix this annoying problem?

A:Receiving duplicate emails in Outlook Express 6

If it's only happening with some, not all, messages, it points to a problem with the senders email provider, not yours. If it was a problem with either your email client software or your email provider, every message would be duplicated.

I have one particular contact who emails me and it always arrives twice in my mailbox. I've ascertained that the same thing happens with other people that he sends messages to, so it's evidently a problem at his end.
