Q: Ipod questions

I don't know if this is in the right forum or not (if not Moderators feel free to movie to desinated place), but I had a question about the Ipod mini that I just bought my girlfriend. When she plugged it in the computer, it automatically uploaded to her ipod all my music, about half of which she likes. Does anyone know how to get the songs that she doesn't care for off her Ipod? Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Preferred Solution: Ipod questions

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Ipod questions

Im not sure if this is correct but if you de-select all the songs in the library that she does not want on her ipod and then plug the ipod back in it will only send the songs that have been ticked to her ipod.

I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this first of all, and second, I am not sure if I will get any help with the questions, but I will give it a shot. I am considering getting an iPod, but I have a few questions.

- Can you take music from CD's you own and put them on your iPod?
- Can you take DVD's you own, and put them on your iPod?
-- If yes to either, how easy is it to do.

Not sure if this is the right forum. I am loading music for iPod on my PC. Does anyone recommend “disk cleanup”, checking box for “compress drive to save disk space” or doing a "defragmentation”? I have a lot of cd’s taking up a lot of GB’s so I was not sure if any of these would help with space. Thanks.

I have the older iPod shuffle that is about 1" x 2". I plug it in and it seems to be charging (yelllow flashing light). Do I turn it off while it's charging?

I downloaded iTunes 11, and yet it does not look like the layout here:

I tried to folow their directions by moving iTunes from My Music into Document/My Music. I can't even see my library now.

After I installed iTunes I saw some older songs on there that were in My Music.

Did I install the right version for Windows 7? Maybe I can start all over again. I want to transfer my songs that are on my iPod to my computer and then pick and choose what songs to put on my iPod.

Try this one - struggling to get an explanation I can understand (even from Apple) - family members IPOD touch performed a port scan(outgoing) on an unknown IP adress- geo located within 25 miles of our house. Problem - no one had access to the IPOD at the time, whole family were away. Apple have never encountered this they say.
Whats all that about?, why would an IPOD perform a port scan on an unknown address - why has my firewall on router picked it up? & how the heck can this happen when nobody had acess to it ?(sleep mode though).

Really Grateful for help.

I have tunes in my Library but when I try to drag them into the Music section of the iPod, an exclamation mark appears in the column on the left of the title and as I drag it across to the blue section, a circle with a line through it appears. The files will not transfer by dragging and dropping and I can't see any other way to transfer tunes to my iPod. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A:The new ipod nano 5th generation video to computer and DVD to ipod?

Hi, Nuly. You do not mention whether your computer is PC or Mac here.
This iPod Transfer Software can transfer the files from ipod to computer, ipod to iTunes, ipod to ipod.

well , If you are a mac user.maybe you can try to use a professional software to meet your need and you can first have a free trial .
This iPod to Mac Transfer is an excellent iPod and iPhone management tool is specially designed for Mac users. It can fast transfer, rip, copy and manage your music, videos, photos, podcasts and TV Shows between iPod/iPhone and Mac and add them to your local iTunes library.

For your second question, i think DVD Video iPod Converter can help you.It can convert any dvd video on the market now to iPod MP4/H.264 video.

I've had a second-generation 20 gig iPod for three years. I ALWAYS charged it with an Apple wall charger, Model A1070, which has output marked 13 volts, 0.62 amps. This iPod started getting glitchy, so today I bought a new 80gig iPod Classic. I want to fully charge the new iPod before I do anything else.

But can I use the three-year-old A1070 wall charger? The A1070 cable clicks into the Classic dock connector just fine, but I am afraid to plug the charger into the wall unless I am sure it is compatible. The wall charger (model MB051LL/A) currently being sold on the Apple website (here: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...SQ3Ep419NXsrhY) looks pretty much the same as the A1070 on the outside -- but I saw reference somewhere to the function of some connector pins being changed so that some older iPod accessories are incompatible with the newer models. Also, I think I saw on a website that the new charging input specs are 12 volts at 1 amp, but now I can't find that page now and I'm not sure of that. I hate to buy a new charger if its not needed.

I have a
HP Pavilion dv7t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

Recently I had a friend take it and wipe it to start fresh.
when I got it back it is still pointing to a bizarre path..?? (which is one of the reasons I wanted to start fresh. It points to:

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\Power2Go;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\

why would this be the case? When I got it back I see that some things like my extra monitor was already installed.. (Before I even hooked it up??) and some folders I had renamed example folder.OLD was still here. (and many other things that lead me to believe it did not get formatted correctly. (and could still have virus?)
He used my factory disks. (which I do have)
can anyone advise me on what is going on?
thanks so much!!

A:Environment Variables questions and format questions

I've had a bunch of HP machines. But I never used the restore. I'm not sure if it formats or just installs over what's there. It may leave files and folders that are in subfolders of programs that come bundled with the machine assuming it's data or something. The path looks fine to me. That %SystemRoot% stuff is just a way to use environment variables in case the system is not installed on C:\Windows.

If you really just want the OS and not the bundled software see the threads about ISO download for Vista. You can evaluate for 90 days perfectly legally. There are also tutorials how to extend the evaluation by 30 days.

Brand new user.

a. The new PC came with McAfee anti virus.
Should I use it ?

Is it as good as AVG, e.g., which I used on my old W7 PC ? Use them both ?

b. And, how do I turn on the "Defender" anti virus which I understand is part of
the W10 package ?

Would it interfere with McAfee or AVG ? How good is it ?

c. How do I turn on the Firewall; I'm assuming there is one like in W7 ?

Much thanks,

A:New W10 User Questions (Basic Questions, Please)

McAfee, AVG and Defender are all anti-virus programs and you should only run one. In fact Defender will get turned off when another one is installed.

Right click the Start button and select Control Panel.

Then select Security and Maintenance and under Security it will show your the status of the Firewall, Virus and Spyware and which program is running what.

Control panel also has links to Defender and Firewall.

That McAfee is a trial version and at some point you will have to buy it.

Hey guys, you might of seen a post or two about me not able to get our domain to use GPO's, but its all fixed now. YAY !
(It was the DNS, incase anyone was interested)

but now i got a few questions, i'll start with:

1. Is there anyway to configure a client by just having them log onto the domain? e.g. Disable Security Center, Windows Messanger, Add a Registry hack. etc.

2. Is there anyway to view a list of all websites visited on the network with information, eg. Who was looking at it(which user), at what time. etc

3. Is there a way to record a list of all objects printed from our print server with information? e.g. User that printed it, time it was printed, how many pages, how many copys. etc.

4. Is there a way to delete start menu files/folders with a logon script?

5. I'm going to put "Deep Freeze" on the computers that are accessed and used by the public, but i've never used it, nor have any experience with it.
Does it cause any problems with normal operation of the computer? if anyone could give me some feedback on this, i'd love to hear it.

Also, is it possible to get more then just 6 Virtual Drives on a computer?

i mean, isn't there 23 possible drives?

I have a Packard Bell P133, model D135. Eight megs of
RAM are on the motherboard. According to a search of
this model on a 'Memory' website, this model has FPM non-
parity memory. The machine had two 4-MB modules installed
when it was new in 1996, for a total of 16 MB at time of purchase.
Since then, I have added two 8MB modules to bring it up to
32MB. Two weeks ago, I replaced the two 4MB modules with
two 32MB FPM modules, which was supposed to bring it up to a total of 88MB. When I boot up, it only reads slightly over 81MB as passed....of course, on the System Properties 'General' tab, 80MB is listed. Can anyone tell me what might have happened to the other 8MB?

Another question: Would parity memory be compatible with
non-parity memory? I know from research, that most servers use parity memory...parity being described as a feature of
a module for error-checking. Would parity memory work OK with non-parity, but not the other way around? The reason I ask is, I have an opportunity to buy some used 72-pin, FMP parity modules at a good price, and I just wanted to know if the two (parity and non-parity) would mesh. I wanted to bring it up to the max for this model....136MB, providing the 8MB on-board memory is read. That was my own theory about the missing 8MB....that the on-board memory, for some reason isn't being read. Any thoughts on this?

Hey guys, just have a few questions in regards to Vista x32 vs x64 as well as Direct x10 issues when it comes to gaming.

First off - What benefits do I get by running Vista x64 as opposed to x32 when it comes to gaming. I bought Call of Duty 4 as well as Bioshock, and will be buying some of the new games coming out such as Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 2. Are any of these games 64 bit games?

Second off - Do I get any benefit playing a game made for DirectX 9 on a DirectX10 platform? Or are the graphic increases only visible in games actually made for DirectX 10? Again, are any of the games I listed above made to work with better graphics in DirectX 10?

Thanks guys!

A:32/64 bit questions & DirectX 9/10 questions :)

I discovered your inquiry while I was attempting to answer questions similar to yours.

This isn't much help but try reading about Epic Game's 'Unreal' game engine. I'm reading the article on wikipeadia about this game engine. This is the game engine used for Gears of War and Unreal Tournament.

Any way, it seems that if your running the game in a 64-bit environment like Windows Vista 64 the game will be in 64-bit mode.

It uses Directx 10 and Directx 10 also seems to be in 64-bit mode depending on weather Windows is in 64-bit mode.

In related news, it seems that the 'Unreal' game engine and the 'Source' game engine (Used for Half life 2, etc) are optimized to take advantage of multi-threading or in other words optimized for multi-core processors.

Anyway, see what conclusions you come to...I'll post an update as I learn more.

I am not sure where to post this iPod question - if this is the wrong forum please direct me to the correct one.

Recently, somewhere, probably in PC World, I read that for $50, Apple/iPod would take a non functioning iPod unit back and give you a new/refurbished one in its place. (My son's 6month old iPod may have gone swimming recently and the iPod didn't know how to swim).

Does anyone know where to find the article or how to approach Apple/iPod about a replacement?

A few days ago my 4th gen iPod started acting up, slow to respond, freezing, and skipping songs, etc. I received the folder icon telling me to go to apple.com/support/ipod. The site being of no use I searched around and found that some people have found a solution in intentionally dropping their iPod. I tried this and it then began to work again. However, the symptoms have returned, this time showing me the sad iPod icon or the folder, depending on what it feels like. I also noticed that when I try to play a song, the drive starts making noise normally, then abruptly stops. This repeats as long as I try to play something. Occasionally it will play a few seconds of a song before trying to play the next one. I'm guessing (hoping) that it's just a loose connector to the hard drive on the inside, and I plan to open it up when I get home in a few hours. In the meantime, I'd appreciate any thoughts on its condition.

A:Sad iPod

If you hear the drive making noise, then the drive is faulty.

If its under warranty, get it fixed. If not and you are mechanically competent, you can purchase a new drive and install it yourself. If you have apple do it without a warranty, its almost the cost of buying a new one.

I tend to scratch cd's easily and cd players usually die out on me. So i was wondering, whats the durability of an ipod? Will it skip if i use it while running/jogging? I noticed the mini's but didnt know if the size warranted the price/capacity sacrifices. I'm open to all and any opinions so please post :-D Thanks

A:Ipod Help

Me, personally... I cannot stand iTunes. I have around 10k songs, and the software is incredibly slow when dealing with these numbers. If you're interested in other alternatives, take a look at these nice free programs: ephPod and SharePod (this one is /awesome/).

To answer your question, if you are worried about deleting your sister's iTunes library, you can back it up easily. Check under her user account (on winXP... Documents and Settings\userName\My Documents\My Music\). There will be an iTunes folder. All you need to do is copy the xml and itl (database) file to a safe location, and if anything goes wrong, you just import these back into iTunes and everything will be back to normal.

iTunes doesn't actually 'own' your mp3's. It just keeps references of where they are located in the XML file.

Hope that helps

To start with, the DVD drive I'm trying to use is an LG 18x Super Multi DVD Rewriter (GSA-H22L) and the iPod is a 60 gig video iPod.

Alright, now for my problem. I'm trying to get some DVD movies onto my iPod. I bought Pinnacle Multimedia Converter to do this. Whenever I try to convert a DVD, I get an error saying that it cannot convert the file. I tried getting intouch with Pinnacle about this, they were . . . less than helpful.
Also, when I'm attempting to use the DVD burning software included with the drive (Nero Express 6, I believe) I get a read error when trying to make a copy of a DVD.
And again, when using the CyberLink PowerProducer included with the drive, it can create an DVD image, but it comes up with an error when trying to burn the image to a blank DVD.

The drive can play movies just fine, it's only when I'm trying to do something that would require a DVD burner that it has trouble.

I'm assuming that most, if not all, of this is caused by copyrights? That or my drive is bunk.
I'm not so worried about actually burning things to DVDs, I don't use that very often at all. I'm largely concerned about getting movies onto my iPod. I know it's possible, my sister can has copyrighted movies on her iPod, some of which were put on using the exact same DVD I'm trying to use.

So, if anyone can help out, I'd be very thankful.

I know that there are FM transmitters for the iPod but the two that I've bought have been somewhat less than I was expecting. One was built by Monster, connected to the dock connector on my iPod and charged the battery while I was playing. It was $79 at Target. I hooked it up and I get more static than music. The second was made by Belkin, connected to the headphone jack and again, I get more static than music for $39. I don't have a cassette player in my car so that adapter is out. How do I get good quality music in my car from my iPod? I read that you can connect the iPod to an auxiliary input jack on the car stereo but this is the stock stereo that came with my car (2002 Saturn Vue) and I would be surprised if it had one. There is no control on the front to switch to an auxiliary source so I think I'm out of luck with that option too. Any other ideas?

I had thought that I could go to computer and it would bring up the plugged in IPod and that I would then be able to drag the podcast over or go to file save but when I go to computer it doen't show the IPod. I would be grateful if someone could enlighten me so that I have it all sorted before he comes home.

You have to use iTunes to put content on it. Open iTunes and connect the iPod. It should show up on the left. Click on it, and then you'll have options on the right side to sync various types of content including music and podcasts. Pick the items you want to put on it, and then click the Sync button.

You can't drag and drop stuff to it using Computer.

Do you have the ipods content backed up?
If you have then reset the ipod back to factory default.
Connect it to iTunes and look for updates.

iTunes is unforgiving when it comes to content, its as if it does not like it then you can't put it in there.
An alternate to Itunes here suit may you better

Well I just got an Ipod and I'm ready to head down to California and kill Mr. Pod himself, or whatever his name may be... Not only is the p.o.s. machine bothering me, but the lack of any support forums is enough to make me wanna kill... well, not quite. But...

That being said, I cannot update songs on my Ipod. I had a couple hundred on there, and then BAM, all gone. In Itunes it shows that they are on my Ipod, but there's nothing actually on it. When I plug it in it says updating ipod, do not disconnect, I toss salad, etc, but nothing happens.

Please help. Be it with instructions or advice on where to buy fine sledge hammers.

Oh yeah... 30 gb Ipod photo running on windows xp home.

I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate place to post it but here i go anyway.
Thanks to my friends stupidity, my Ipod broke. I'll spare you the details but safe to say i had to send it in to apple for a new one, since it was still under warranty. The new one arrived today with a letter saying it was formatted for Mac OS X and telling me how to make it work with windows XP. Unfortunately, the instructions don't work. The IPod Updater does not detect my new ipod and will not let me restore it, even in disk mode. I know my USB works because my IPod charges. Any ideas what the problem is? Any help would be appreciated.

recently my computer got a virus and got it fixed. and seeing as all my music got erased i tried to copy it back from my ipod to itunes but for some reason every time i connect my ipod to the computer it disconnects from the computer but still stays connected with itunes. does anyone know what may be causing this??
(before the virus my ipod connected perfectly with my computer without any problems)

first off you may want to contact apple support for ipod help
depending what version of ipod you have it can be impossable to copy files off the device but assumeing you have a version that supports this look at the connected devices screen in computer and see if the drive shows up there if not go into the devices section of the control panel and if it shows up there that means itunes is being the manger for this device insted of windows.

if you can still use itunes to connect to your ipod then theres realy not that big of an issue but if it connects shows up and then disconects and is unaccesable then the most logical reson for that is a short in the usb cable( if the positve and negitve terminals are crossed windows will disable that port automaticly) so i would look at the condition of your cable if theres any pinches exsposed wireing or its warped(spirels by it's self)then that is most likely the problem
