Ipod questions

Q: Ipod questions

I don't know if this is in the right forum or not (if not Moderators feel free to movie to desinated place), but I had a question about the Ipod mini that I just bought my girlfriend. When she plugged it in the computer, it automatically uploaded to her ipod all my music, about half of which she likes. Does anyone know how to get the songs that she doesn't care for off her Ipod? Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Preferred Solution: Ipod questions

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Ipod questions

Im not sure if this is correct but if you de-select all the songs in the library that she does not want on her ipod and then plug the ipod back in it will only send the songs that have been ticked to her ipod.

I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this first of all, and second, I am not sure if I will get any help with the questions, but I will give it a shot. I am considering getting an iPod, but I have a few questions.

- Can you take music from CD's you own and put them on your iPod?
- Can you take DVD's you own, and put them on your iPod?
-- If yes to either, how easy is it to do.

Not sure if this is the right forum. I am loading music for iPod on my PC. Does anyone recommend “disk cleanup”, checking box for “compress drive to save disk space” or doing a "defragmentation”? I have a lot of cd’s taking up a lot of GB’s so I was not sure if any of these would help with space. Thanks.

I have the older iPod shuffle that is about 1" x 2". I plug it in and it seems to be charging (yelllow flashing light). Do I turn it off while it's charging?

I downloaded iTunes 11, and yet it does not look like the layout here:

I tried to folow their directions by moving iTunes from My Music into Document/My Music. I can't even see my library now.

After I installed iTunes I saw some older songs on there that were in My Music.

Did I install the right version for Windows 7? Maybe I can start all over again. I want to transfer my songs that are on my iPod to my computer and then pick and choose what songs to put on my iPod.

Try this one - struggling to get an explanation I can understand (even from Apple) - family members IPOD touch performed a port scan(outgoing) on an unknown IP adress- geo located within 25 miles of our house. Problem - no one had access to the IPOD at the time, whole family were away. Apple have never encountered this they say.
Whats all that about?, why would an IPOD perform a port scan on an unknown address - why has my firewall on router picked it up? & how the heck can this happen when nobody had acess to it ?(sleep mode though).

Really Grateful for help.

Hi, Nuly. You do not mention whether your computer is PC or Mac here.
This iPod Transfer Software can transfer the files from ipod to computer, ipod to iTunes, ipod to ipod.

well , If you are a mac user.maybe you can try to use a professional software to meet your need and you can first have a free trial .
This iPod to Mac Transfer is an excellent iPod and iPhone management tool is specially designed for Mac users. It can fast transfer, rip, copy and manage your music, videos, photos, podcasts and TV Shows between iPod/iPhone and Mac and add them to your local iTunes library.

For your second question, i think DVD Video iPod Converter can help you.It can convert any dvd video on the market now to iPod MP4/H.264 video.

I have tunes in my Library but when I try to drag them into the Music section of the iPod, an exclamation mark appears in the column on the left of the title and as I drag it across to the blue section, a circle with a line through it appears. The files will not transfer by dragging and dropping and I can't see any other way to transfer tunes to my iPod. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've had a second-generation 20 gig iPod for three years. I ALWAYS charged it with an Apple wall charger, Model A1070, which has output marked 13 volts, 0.62 amps. This iPod started getting glitchy, so today I bought a new 80gig iPod Classic. I want to fully charge the new iPod before I do anything else.

But can I use the three-year-old A1070 wall charger? The A1070 cable clicks into the Classic dock connector just fine, but I am afraid to plug the charger into the wall unless I am sure it is compatible. The wall charger (model MB051LL/A) currently being sold on the Apple website (here: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...SQ3Ep419NXsrhY) looks pretty much the same as the A1070 on the outside -- but I saw reference somewhere to the function of some connector pins being changed so that some older iPod accessories are incompatible with the newer models. Also, I think I saw on a website that the new charging input specs are 12 volts at 1 amp, but now I can't find that page now and I'm not sure of that. I hate to buy a new charger if its not needed.

I have a
HP Pavilion dv7t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC
64bit with Windows Vista Home premium
Recently I had a friend take it and wipe it to start fresh.
when I got it back it is still pointing to a bizarre path..?? (which is one of the reasons I wanted to start fresh. It points to:

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\Power2Go;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\

why would this be the case? When I got it back I see that some things like my extra monitor was already installed.. (Before I even hooked it up??) and some folders I had renamed example folder.OLD was still here. (and many other things that lead me to believe it did not get formatted correctly. (and could still have virus?)
He used my factory disks. (which I do have)
can anyone advise me on what is going on?
thanks so much!!

A:Environment Variables questions and format questions

I've had a bunch of HP machines. But I never used the restore. I'm not sure if it formats or just installs over what's there. It may leave files and folders that are in subfolders of programs that come bundled with the machine assuming it's data or something. The path looks fine to me. That %SystemRoot% stuff is just a way to use environment variables in case the system is not installed on C:\Windows.

If you really just want the OS and not the bundled software see the threads about ISO download for Vista. You can evaluate for 90 days perfectly legally. There are also tutorials how to extend the evaluation by 30 days.

Brand new user.

a. The new PC came with McAfee anti virus.
Should I use it ?

Is it as good as AVG, e.g., which I used on my old W7 PC ? Use them both ?

b. And, how do I turn on the "Defender" anti virus which I understand is part of
the W10 package ?

Would it interfere with McAfee or AVG ? How good is it ?

c. How do I turn on the Firewall; I'm assuming there is one like in W7 ?

Much thanks,

A:New W10 User Questions (Basic Questions, Please)

McAfee, AVG and Defender are all anti-virus programs and you should only run one. In fact Defender will get turned off when another one is installed.

Right click the Start button and select Control Panel.

Then select Security and Maintenance and under Security it will show your the status of the Firewall, Virus and Spyware and which program is running what.

Control panel also has links to Defender and Firewall.

That McAfee is a trial version and at some point you will have to buy it.

Hey guys, you might of seen a post or two about me not able to get our domain to use GPO's, but its all fixed now. YAY !
(It was the DNS, incase anyone was interested)

but now i got a few questions, i'll start with:

1. Is there anyway to configure a client by just having them log onto the domain? e.g. Disable Security Center, Windows Messanger, Add a Registry hack. etc.

2. Is there anyway to view a list of all websites visited on the network with information, eg. Who was looking at it(which user), at what time. etc

3. Is there a way to record a list of all objects printed from our print server with information? e.g. User that printed it, time it was printed, how many pages, how many copys. etc.

4. Is there a way to delete start menu files/folders with a logon script?

5. I'm going to put "Deep Freeze" on the computers that are accessed and used by the public, but i've never used it, nor have any experience with it.
Does it cause any problems with normal operation of the computer? if anyone could give me some feedback on this, i'd love to hear it.

Also, is it possible to get more then just 6 Virtual Drives on a computer?

i mean, isn't there 23 possible drives?

I have a Packard Bell P133, model D135. Eight megs of
RAM are on the motherboard. According to a search of
this model on a 'Memory' website, this model has FPM non-
parity memory. The machine had two 4-MB modules installed
when it was new in 1996, for a total of 16 MB at time of purchase.
Since then, I have added two 8MB modules to bring it up to
32MB. Two weeks ago, I replaced the two 4MB modules with
two 32MB FPM modules, which was supposed to bring it up to a total of 88MB. When I boot up, it only reads slightly over 81MB as passed....of course, on the System Properties 'General' tab, 80MB is listed. Can anyone tell me what might have happened to the other 8MB?

Another question: Would parity memory be compatible with
non-parity memory? I know from research, that most servers use parity memory...parity being described as a feature of
a module for error-checking. Would parity memory work OK with non-parity, but not the other way around? The reason I ask is, I have an opportunity to buy some used 72-pin, FMP parity modules at a good price, and I just wanted to know if the two (parity and non-parity) would mesh. I wanted to bring it up to the max for this model....136MB, providing the 8MB on-board memory is read. That was my own theory about the missing 8MB....that the on-board memory, for some reason isn't being read. Any thoughts on this?

Hey guys, just have a few questions in regards to Vista x32 vs x64 as well as Direct x10 issues when it comes to gaming.

First off - What benefits do I get by running Vista x64 as opposed to x32 when it comes to gaming. I bought Call of Duty 4 as well as Bioshock, and will be buying some of the new games coming out such as Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 2. Are any of these games 64 bit games?

Second off - Do I get any benefit playing a game made for DirectX 9 on a DirectX10 platform? Or are the graphic increases only visible in games actually made for DirectX 10? Again, are any of the games I listed above made to work with better graphics in DirectX 10?

Thanks guys!

A:32/64 bit questions & DirectX 9/10 questions :)

I discovered your inquiry while I was attempting to answer questions similar to yours.

This isn't much help but try reading about Epic Game's 'Unreal' game engine. I'm reading the article on wikipeadia about this game engine. This is the game engine used for Gears of War and Unreal Tournament.

Any way, it seems that if your running the game in a 64-bit environment like Windows Vista 64 the game will be in 64-bit mode.

It uses Directx 10 and Directx 10 also seems to be in 64-bit mode depending on weather Windows is in 64-bit mode.

In related news, it seems that the 'Unreal' game engine and the 'Source' game engine (Used for Half life 2, etc) are optimized to take advantage of multi-threading or in other words optimized for multi-core processors.

Anyway, see what conclusions you come to...I'll post an update as I learn more.

The new one arrived today with a letter saying it was formatted for Mac OS X and telling me how to make it work with windows XP. Unfortunately, the instructions don't work. The IPod Updater does not detect my new ipod and will not let me restore it, even in disk mode. I know my USB works because my IPod charges. Any ideas what the problem is? hello- this sounds like a dumb question. but what is an ipod? specifically, how is it different from just having an mp3 player? i download and play mp3 files onto my computer. i transfer some to a 1gb mp3 player, and also to my pda. so it is hard for me to see why an ipod specifically is special compare with any old mp3 player.

the teen in our home wants an ipod for christmas (of course). so i want to know what's up.

do you have to have a mac to download music from web to computer to ipod?

do i understand it correctly that you have to buy music from itunes?

what does a song cost?

what format is the song in? is this a loss-less format, or is it lossy, like an mp3 is?

is an ipod desirable because it holds more music? because it is small?

is it true that you can only download it to the one ipod devise (like - you can't burn it to cd, store it, copy it to another computer, email it to someone, etc.)?

how much easier or more difficult is it to use compared with downloading an mp3, then copyign the mp3 to an mp3 player?

frankly, if a song costs a dollar, and can't be used/copied burned to cd, etc., i don't see how getting an ipod is bettern than getting a cd, then burning tracks from the cd to play on mp3, your own mix cd, etc.

also, in our home, i don't care what people do or what is technically possible or legal or not yet outlawed: we are not going to use music files outside of ethical fair use rules. in other words, we will... Read more

A:what is an ipod?

You can use a Windows machine just fine. Drag and drop is not natively supporting since it's not seen as a removable device in Windows. IPods support MP3 files as well as apple's own audio format.

You can use something like Itunes or other application to transfer files to the player. I have an Ipod and two other MP3 players and I don't really like the Ipod that much. It's simple to use which is good for some people but I like the features of my other MP3 players.

Songs are still .99 a piece unless that's changed recently. The songs are protected and in an apple music format.

I have a 20gb ipod that has been freezing constantly the past few weeks. I have tried everything on Apple's website to fix it (i.e. restoring it, reseting it, etc.) and none of that has worked. I know I could send it into apple to have them repair it, but they could charge me up to $100 on top of shipping it there and back for repairing it, also I don't know how long the repairs will last and I don't think the repairs are warranted by any means.

I iPod is making a loud click noise followed by a high pitched sound that drowns off. I'm guessing hard drive but not for certain.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions/advice/anything?

Hey, I'm looking to buy a mp3 player but I'm not sure what to get. The ones I'm looking at would be the Ipod Mini, or the Creative Zen. Personally, I don't really care about the features because both will satisfy my needs no problem. My main concern is the battery life.

Now the Zen is suppose to have a 12 hour battery life and the battery is replacable which is great because I won't have to worry about the mp3 player dying of battery life because I can replace is myself if the battery is not good anymore. The Ipod Mini is suppose to last 18 hours but the battery replacement would cost be $100 and I gotta send it back to the manufacturer just to get the battery replaced.

So I'm wondering which would the better choice be? How long would the Ipod Mini battery last before starting to go down in hours? Does the Zen actually drain batteries itself even if not in use? How much are the Zen batteries?

Also, what are your opinions on these two devices? I've seen lots of reviews but I'm not completely sure on which one to aim for. Right now, it really depends on the battery life in the long run that will probably conclude my choice.

A:Zen and Ipod

I'm know for sure that the Zen Micro runs lithium Ion battery and does not develop a memory when recharging, but not sure bout the Mini iPod. Also there is am FM radio on the Zen Micro too.

Here are links to the review on the Zen Micro and iPod Mini, read them and then u should be able to decide then.

I'm not sure what to do with my ipod, i think i've tried everything. I left it in my house for about 1 week without using it. When I went to turn it back on, I got no response (blank screen). I tried plugging it in but it wouldn't charge (at least nothing came up on the screen). I then tried resetting it (hold down play/pause and menu buttons, which has worked in the past) but all i heard was a "click" from inside-no apple icon shows up on the screen like it's supposed to. I tried plugging it into my computer (PC through firewire card) but the computer wouldn't recognize it. Tried resetting it several more times, both connected to the computer, connected to the power adapter, and disconnected from everything, none of which worked. I did notice that when it was connected to wall outlet, that when i tried to reset it I would hear the click, but when it was connected to the computer or disconnected I wouldn't hear anything. I then took it apart and disconnected the battery and put it back together. Still nothing on reset except for the "click". I left it plugged in overnight but nothing when I woke up this AM either.

Does this sound like a battery problem or something more serious? I can't try to reset it or update it on the computer like other websites say because the computer doesn't recognize it's plugged into it.

Please help! thanks!
