budget gfx card

Q: budget gfx card

I only have about $80 bucks US to spend on a vid card for some casual gaming. I was thinking about a FX5200 with 128 mb ram. What are your guys' sugestions on what to buy?

Preferred Solution: budget gfx card

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: budget gfx card

Stay away from the 5200. It'll just dissappoint you.

I'd recommend looking for a cheap GeForce4 Ti 4200. You might be able to find one under $80 now.

Heya there, I have a budget of around about £150 and I'm looking for the best AGP card to fit that price, preferably NVIDIA as I've had issues with ATI in the past. I want to be able to run games like Half Life 2, or Elder Scrolls Oblivion on high quality.

The rest of my PC is pretty decent, 1GB ram & 3.4Ghz P4. Just need a better GCard.

So, any recommendations? And thanks for any help you can offer

Hey guys. Anyone who's seen my other thread can guess whats coming (if you didnt get it from Budget Gaming Card ) Anyhow, I'm building myself virtually a new system, and have ~£75 (~$135) to spend on a graphics card. I'm hoping to play the likes of Half Life 2 at a good level (who isnt?) and was hoping someone in here might know which card I should buy. If possible (really pushing it now), I'd like the card to last a couple of years, cos being a student I don't know when I'll be able to afford another upgrade. Also, I'm in the UK, so newegg and zipflyzoom are out of the question, but I'm gunna order a bunch of stuff off Novatechs' website, cos they're the cheapest I could find, with a frankly brilliant reputation.

My build will hopefully look something like this:
CPU: £76.36 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/...html?AMD-6430WI
AMD Athlon 64 3000 Venice Core 512k 90nm Socket 939Pin
RAM: £31.73 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/...ml?RAM-40/512
400MHz 184Pin 512MB PC3200 DDR RAM DIMM 2.5V 3.2Gb/Sec
MoBo: £57.28 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/...ge.html?FOX-NF4
Foxconn nForce4 Socket 939 PCI-E Dual DDR400 5.1Sound GB LAN SATA Raid, ATA
What does Micro ATX mean btw?
PSU*: £14.10 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/...html?NOV-PSU400
400W ATX Is apparently quite noisy, but I'm not too worried about getting a silent rig.

Hey thats a pretty good system...But i'd recommand you get a atleast 1 gig ram and as far as a good video card is concerned you can either get a Geforce 6600 GT but if your willing to spend a Few extra bucks not much though you can get a Geforce 6800 128 mb ( plays bf2, doom 3, and hl2 on high settings on my computer....But if you have a 1 gig ram )which is a really good card and they are pretty cheap aswell.. OR if you want any ATI video cards and you have a PCI-e i'd go for the Radeon X800 pro or X800 XL but i think those are really expensive as compared to the budget you stated so i would go with the Radeon X700 XT ....

well the conclusion....I'd go with the Geforce 6800 (Vanilla) ..its much better than Geforce 6600 GT

Heya, I'm looking to upgrade from my gf4 MX440. I'd like to keep it at or under $100 and these are the cards I've been looking at:

Radeon 9250 128 mb 400 mhz ~$80
Radeon 9550 128 mb 250 mhz ~$100
Geforce FX 5500 Dual RAMDACs 350 mhz ~$100

Which of these would be the better buy? Also, other reccomendations are welcome, these cards are from my local best buy and have the easiest access to.

I'd go with the GE force. The cheaper radeons tend not to have fans on the cards and run hot. Performance is about equal for all cards.

hi all,

i hav a frend who is strapped for cash, but wants a comp for his room. he is going to run 98se and primarily run CS on the rig. thing is, he only has $500CDN to spend.
so he wants me to build it for him and i got this far:

amd athlon xp 2000+ -$95
ecs k7s5a mobo(sound/lan) -$59
512mb micron ddr266 -$89
maxtor 30gb 7200rpm h/d -$69
generic case w/300watt psu -$29
lite-on 52x cd-rom -$23

this adds up to $361CDN and he has about $140CDN to spend on a video card. he already scavenged a set of speakers,kb/mouse and found a nice 17" monitor on the road during junk day. so for $140CDN i can get him an ati radeon 9000pro, radeon 9100, radeon 9200, gffx 5200 or gf4 mx440-8x.

remember, he will primarily use this computer to play CS and he has a broadband cable connection. which video card will allow him to get the best possible frame rates?

I am trying to up the graphics on my computer since i was stuck using only PCI slots i upgraded to an Abit AW8d mobo SLI enabled. So i'm on a pretty tight budget for building my PC, i can easily use up to $200 on this and i can put in more if i need to but is it better/cheaper to get x2 SLI video cards or one high end video card.

What i'm running atm:
Abit AW8D SLI mobo
Dual pentium 4 3ghz cpu
1.5 gbs RAM
3d Fuzion Nvidia FX5500 (PCI vc)
stock PSU

also have a question for the PSU if i can afford to use the SLI. When i buy the PSU does it have to have SLI support or be a SLI enabled PSU or can i just get a PSU with a solid ammount of watts and it will work? Because i noticed that some PSU specs say "SLI support: No" but it didnt seem right to me so if someone could clear that up for me it would be great thanks.

A:Which card offers best SLI for budget

Ok i did some research and found some good deal SLI cards i can afford but i'm stuck with the decision between these two cards can you guys tell me which one is better, they are essentially the same price just one has a better rebate which i don't expect to get anytime soon in the next 4,000 years.
The links to both cards are below, help is appreciated.

I am looking to upgrade my FX5500 256mb graphics card because i think it is pants!!

My shortlist includes:
geforce 6200 (£30) and possibly 6600 (if i get lucky on price)
ATI Radeon 9550 (£28) and possibly 9800 (price permitting)

I am inclined to go the nvidia route as that is what i am used to. What would you reccommend? Is it worth me bothering or should i wait until i can afford a 7800GS (might take a while!!)

My price limit is around £40 (i should be able to sell my current card for around £30) and i am limited to AGP cards.

Thanks in advance

A:Budget Graphics Card upgrade?

What do you need the card for? Just regular computing, or games? If it is games, what games are you trying to run?

If you are into the newer games, I'd look at nothing less than these cards:

1. nvidia 6600GT
2. ATI 9800pro
3. nvidia 6600

in that order.

Good luck!

Kinda leaning towards:
ASUS ENGT430/DI/1GD3(LP) GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

But would love any better recommendations.

A:Good graphics card to go with the TS Budget Box

They recommend a 5670 ~$80 or 5550 for ~$60. I'd say the Radeon 5550 would be more than fine for a general purpose machine and a little gaming.
These are meant to give comparable performance to a Geforce 9600 GT, and more than enough for a little gaming at 1650x1080 resolution or below.

I don't think any of the lower end fermi offerings are particularly good from what I've read. Have to go for GTX 460 and upwards or not at all.

What is the exact make and model of the PC you are looking at putting the new GPU in? Assuming you are upgrading a pre-built machine?

What is the exact make and model of the PSU in the machine, this will potentially be a significant limitation on what you can install. If you are upgrading from integrated graphics then your current PSU is quite likely not going to up to the job of any new GPU unfortunately.

I have a decent PC with a crappy graphics card which is the only thing holding my gaming back
I have 4 gigs of RAM and an Intel Core 2 duo E6400 of 2.13 Ghz
Its a Dell Optiplex 745 MiniTower and it has a Power Supply of 305w or so

I need a Graphics card within 20-50$ (Without having to upgrade the entire thing)
Yep, I know I'm cheap, but I'm pretty desperate since my PC can't run even most games such as League of Legends and DOTA 2
(Dota 2 ftw)

But for some weird reason I can run Elder Scrolls Oblivion perfectly yet games like "Skullgirlz" won't despite being a linear game

And after researchin' my sh*t, I came across these Graphics cards

NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 = $50

NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 = $50

GeForce 210 = $27.50

NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 = $50

NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 = $38

AMD Radeon HD 6450 = $35

Tell me the "best choice" out of these since my budget is pretty much limited, and if the cards that I chose
"will even" work or fit inside the case

Also does it being Single-Width or Dual-Width matter?
And if it does which of the graphics cards that I listed will actually work?

I am just looking for a graphics card that will improve my PC, not one that will turn it into a gaming computer
Answer with minimum detail please :3

I am looking for the very best video card for around the $250 area. I'll start off with what I have.

AMD Anthlon XP 2000+ @ 1.66 Ghz and 624 MB of Ram. The video card I currently have is pretty pitiful. The computer I have is a eMachines w2040.

I am wanting to play mainly City of Heroes, Battlefield 1942, and other games in that genre and what not. I would love to play Far Cry too, but I'm not sure if I have the processor to do so.

I want to make a purchase in the next few days, and currently I've been suggested to buy a Radeon 9800 Pro AGP 8X 128MB DDR Video Card for $200, but can I get a better one (OR, will that do?) for alittle more?

Also, I probally need a new PSU, correct? Taking suggestions on those too.

Any suggestions, please, for a replacement budget graphics card for my sonís system (details below). He is a young gamer, who is frustrated by being unable to play the likes of Driver on his current system set-up.

Heís convinced heíll need to spend over £100 (which he doesnít have!), but I think he should be able to get a semi-decent budget card for more like £50 - £60 and still have some latitude for the immediate future.

For example, would the ECS EliteGroup AG400T8-D64 from the Review section be suitable for him?

My knowledge of graphics / games is non-existent, although I should be able to fit a new card for him (have upgraded most things, although not a graphics card).

Iíve learned a few things from other threads, but still lack the confidence to make my own decision in case I boot up and itís not compatible.

For a current card I would recommend the Sapphire Radeon 7770 this can run Civ V (A much more demanding game than any of those you mentioned) at 40 FPS. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102967

However some previous generation cards are going down in price signifigantly. Like the GTX 560 / 550 TI and the Radeon 6870 and 6850, all of these cards should be able to run your games very well, however these cards are running for about $160 - $140. You could get a great deal on ebay, now that everybody is selling their old cards for the GTX 600 series and Radeon 7000 series.

Hello and welcome   to techspot

between those three i think the ATi sounds good or u can check at a 5700 (not le ) if u can get one or ATI 9800 Se i think it comes for $98 so that sounds good all these cards will give bare minimum performance at medium settings with all eye candy off so choose wisely :grinthumb

Looking to get an ATI All-in-Wonder card and also boost the performance of my existing card (a GeForce3 ti200). I'm using a P4 1.7 and 512MB RAM.

Found a great deal on the 9000 Pro at $150 CDN (complete with remote, etc.). The obvious question is, with a P4 1.7, will this be much of a performance boost over my existing card?

Any other All In Wonder cards in the budget range you would recommend? I'd like the break out "box" and remote control.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone.

Can someone post a good GFX card for no mor ethne $100 for a miini tower PC such an emachine El series etc. So a low profile GFX card. My friend does some basic gaming WoW, Moonlight etc.

i know a regular card is too big. What is one of the best 100 dolalr or below gfx cards that are low profile and can fit into mini tower PCs? The slot can be the regular PCI 2.0

Thanks guys

A:Solved: Best budget Graphics card for mini tower form factor?

The biggest problem with OEM PC's is that the power supplies aren't typically up to the task of an addon card. So it's generally recommended to replace the power supply as well. With this being a mini-tower, I wouldn't be surprised if it does not use a standard sized power supply, so that is likely not an option.

If you want to simply try a new card anyway, your options will be limited by the card size. There isn't much of a selection of low profile cards. Find the latest generation chipset which fits your budget.

I have $700 to use for a PC setup. I originally was just going to customize a Dell from the Dell web site until I saw how severally overprice many components were and even way outdated! Therefore I want to build my own with parts through Newegg.

Here's what I have so far:
I already have a Sata hard drive and THIS power supply so those 2 items can be excluded.

Can anyone tell me for sure the processor, motherboard, memory and case that I picked would all be compatible with each other?

I play on adding a video card down the road also. I remember reading but not sure if it was this specific motherboard, but one of them said it didn't have integrated video so I'm curious as to how you'd even install a video card with no video to install the drivers?

A:$700 Budget for a PC

$700 is a bit more than a budget computer...

You have an OS to install? At least until Windows7 comes out?

I would go with the following (order of your list)
1 - Case: Pretty much anything that is Rosewill = crap. Want a good basic black case with good airflow, try this:
Antec 300 $55 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 (IS your PSU 24pin and 4pin wires very long? Many of todays cases such as the 300 has the PSU on the bottom)

2 - Keyboard, $7 keyboards won't last long. A good cheap keyboard is an HP or Logitech for $15+ But none of them are as good as what was made 10-15years ago.

3 - Spend $40~50 more on a 24" Samsung. Acer tends to be washed out. Over at Costco, they sell the 24" Samsung for $200. $250 with HD-Tuner and HDMI input. (Add $50 from newegg) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001280

4 - With AMD DDR2 boards, its generally best to go with DDR2-800mhz: RAM 4GB DDR2 800 - $47 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682014518 G.Skills are good, I use them.

5 - Mice : Check out Logitech... $5~10 mice tend to live for a month or so. Spend at least $15+ Good mice are $30~50.

6 - Motherboard The 790 doesn't have onboard graphics. Not sure what you're asking. If you buy a motherboard without on-board graphics and you don't add a video card, you DON'T get vide... Read more

Greetings everyone. As a result of my recent lemon from CyberPower, I have decided to just build a new gaming rig myself.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Tonight I am going to tweak and further research some build ideas, but there is always some one on here who has some useful insights to offer.

A:$1,900 budget

Hi PYGMUS. I'm assuming your budget excludes the cost of a monitor and peripherals such as mouse, keyboard and speakers.

Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz - $299.99
ASUS Rampage III Formula LGA 1366 Intel X58 - $299.99
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 - $139.99
Seasonic SS-850HT 850W Power Supply - $119.99
2x MSI N460GTX CYCLONE 1GD5/OC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB - $439.98
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB - $74.99
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Black Steel ATX Full Tower - $139.99

Total - $1,514.92

With the remaining cash you could get yourself a good aftermarket CPU HSF and other components of your choice and requirement. You could look towards getting a Blu Ray Drive or SSD if you're interested.

I am eventually going to build a budget pc, but for now im trying to understand the parts as much as I can. For the cpu i wanted to know what the discription of the cpu
is, for Ex. "Intel Core i5-3470 Ivy Bridge 3.2GHz (3.6GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2500 BX80637i53470"
For the "3470", I wanted know what that means, like if its overclockable by that much. as well as the "Intel HD Graphics 2500", does that mean what type of graphics card it is compatable with are something else. If any one can help explain these things to me I would be very much greatful. those discriptions above are the only ones I need thank you.

My current computer:

Dell Dimension 4550

Penitum 4 Northwood 2.4ghz s478 (does not support prescott cpus )
350w Power supply
Nvidia 6600 OC
2 gigs of RAM (Max on Mobo)

I have $200, what can I buy to get decent FPS on TF2, currently I am sitting at 20fps.

Thanks in advance.

A:$200 budget what can I do.

Basically nothing. TF2 relies too much on the CPU for a graphics+power supply upgrade, which you could afford, to make any difference. A new motherboard, CPU, RAM and OS are out of your budget. ~80 $ for a decent motherboard, 110$ for a really good one, 50-80 for RAM, 80-130-150-190 for a CPU, 90-150 for an OS.

So, this computer that I'm thinking about started out cheap, but has gotten a little more expensive over time. This is the first build I will be attempting, so this is pretty cool for me. After having multiple computers from places like Dell, I've decided to just build my own. This computer will be used for a range of things, including some gaming (stuff like Tomb Raider: Legend), Internet, Music/Video, School, and so on. Here is what I have so far (just looking at Newegg right now):

- Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case -- $99.99
- GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard -- $79.99
- Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor -- $ 119.99
- Rosewill RC-204 IDE to SATA Mini Vertical Bridge (for IDE device) -- $14.99 (I have 3 IDE drives and 1 port (2 devices) on the mobo)
- Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply -- $59.99, $39.99 after rebate
- G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL6D-4GBNQ -- $47.99
- SAPPHIRE 100225L Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card -- $74.99, $64.99 after rebate

Totaling: $467.93

I am using from my old computer:
- 120 GB Seagate SATA HDD
- 120 GB WD Caviar IDE HDD
- D-Link WDA-2320 PCI Wireless Card
- Some Hauppage TV tuner (I don't remember the model)
- 2 DVD RW drives (Pioneer and TEA... Read more

Hi Everybody!

I need some help with my HP Compaq Presario SR5030NX Desktop PC. Lately I have noticed that it has been running low on memory and the performance has been slow. I have already upgraded my RAM to the max capacity (2GB /2 GB (max) ) and I have been running into problems when trying to do general things like surf the net, run WMP11, and some general multitasking. WMP will start skipping as I am running an application or browsing the internet or I will have slow loading times.

I am just wondering if there is anything I can do to improve its performance by not breaking the bank. I have thought about buying a non integrated graphics card to free up memory but I would also need a new PSU since I am working with stock. Could buying a new Mobo with more RAM expansion and a faster processor help or is there anything that you all could think of?

I use my PC for listening to music, surfing the internet, editing videos, and business applications.

Here are a few of my specs:

Desktop PC HP Compaq Presario SR5030NX
Processor Intel Pentium 4 641 / 3.2 GHz
Type & Installed Size L2 cache 2 MB
Chipset type Intel 945GC Express
RAM 2GB / 2 GB (max) PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive 160 GB Serial ATA-300 7200rpm
Graphics Intel GMA 950
OS Windows Vista Home Basic
Security / Utility Software Norton Internet Security (always on), PC Tools Spyware Doctor (occasionally on), PC Tools Registry Mechanic (occasionally on)
