Hello i Have the above problem while I try to share a printer on a domain network.
My windows firewall (localy) is also damage, is that the problem that I have to solve first?

Windows 8 - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. [OK]

Preferred Solution: Windows 8 - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. [OK]

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Windows 8 - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. [OK]

You may need to reinstall the printer. Remove the printer driver from Control Panel\Programs and Features, then add the printer from Devices and Printers.

Please note that if the printer driver is not in the list in Devices and Printers, I suspect that the printer is currently not compatible with Windows 8. In this case I suggest you contact the printer manfuacturer for more information.

I updated to win 8.1 and every thing was working fine, except when I wanted to print, My printer does not show up in the devices window and when I try to add printer I get "there are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper"

I read some of the fixes on line, tried to start print spooler but it would stop on it's own, and trouble shooting pronter tells me to install a pronter which takes me back to the same problem. Help!!!!  this is a computer that I use a lot and need
to be able to print.

A:Problems with Endpoint Mapper can not add printer

Check the System event log for the service failure.  The event will point to a faulting module.  Normally spooler service failure are due to drivers that corrupt the process memory.  In the cases below it's a print processor.
from this post:  Our issue seems to be related to Thomson Reuters Accounting software (Creative Solutions Professional) which runs several print services and which seem to have compatibility issues (perhaps) with the 8.1 upgrade. Just FYI in case it

Hi There!

I'm using a Lexmark x1165 printer connected directly to a Dell Dimension 4600 running XP Home SP2.

All of a sudden I get this message: Printer Cannot Communicate With The Computer.

I've checked the print spooler, the usb cable, the device manager, powered up and down the printer, and all the other things that are normally suggested, but I just can't get this thing to work. It shows up in Printers & Faxes but won't print a test page.

Any thoughts?

A:Lexmark Printer, Error Message: "Printer Cannot Communicate With The Computer"

When checking device manager, usb controllers, you probably should see some kind of entry for usb print support or some such wording, also you might wnat to check the entries that you find in the usb section, just to make sure there are no yellow exclam marks and that all appears to be ,according to the system, functioning properly.
Sometimes, just unplugging the printer from the wall socket does magic. If you have another usb socket that you could use ,try that.

As perhaps a last resort,uninstall/re-install the printer and see if XP will plug/play it back into the world of the living.Do you have any other usb devices that appear to be functioning properly?
In addition to this, you might want to check the lexmark site for a more current driver.

Help, please. Paper is due on Tuesday, need printer. My dell 926 AIO printer stopped doing everything and continues to give me the message "printer busy" The LCD lights on the operating panel stopped working but I can hear the ink carriage move back and forth. When I try to print I get printer busy message.

I've tried to uninstall and then reinstall. I've tried turning off computer using Vista OS) unplugging the printing after closing any printing assignments (there were none) waiting 20 minutes and turning on computer and printer. I've installed brand new ink for both color and black. Nothing works.

I am on a small network, where the printer is connected to a PC (WinXP). The laptop (Vista) is on the network. The printer is an HP Deskjet 5550 that is "shared" on the network.

I installed the Vista drivers for the printer on the laptop.

No issues with connecting to the printer and just plain printing.

My problem is when I want to save ink and alter the printer's printing properties. ( I am usually printing an email or from Word 2007.) So when I go to Print and choose the network printer, then click on Properties... the panel never appears until after I click on "OK" [to print].

I tried to change the settings another way through the Control Panel -- Printer -- [right click network printer] -- Properties.

Under the "General" tab, I click on the "Printing Preferences" button and the panel flickers, like another window was supposed to pop up but doesn't. When I close the network printer properties, I see another panel appear for less than a second then disappears.

I'm setting up printer sharing on an XP system. I ran the wizard and gave it the okay to share printers.
When I go to my printer options 'Share' tab, select 'Share this printer' and click 'Apply' I get:

What would cause this?

Thank you.

A:Solved: "Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed."

Nevermind. 'Server' service was disabled. Enabling this service fixed the issue. Hey, I'm getting good at this.

We are migrating from XP to Windows 7 and using USMT offline to migrate user settings etc.
Network printers are migrated but on the users first login if the user tries to set their default printer they receive the following error message:-

"Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709) Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."

The printer is in fact installed and it is possible to print a test print, just not set the default printer.

The issue is resolved by restarting the print spooler (or logging out and back in or rebooting or re-installing the printer) so is only
an issue during the users first login.                                                                                                                             ... Read more

It couldn't have been the drivers because no one messes around with this machine. So what the hell is going on?

I am in the process of obtaining the newest driver files and contacting Lexmark.com and will await their response as well.

As I suspected it was the drivers. The tech support recieved from www.lexmark.com was a steping stone approach. They wanted me to check the ports and stuff. I didn't that (all of them inside/outside) before posting. Well thanks for the asistance.

After having setup successfully Win 7 Pro some years ago printing worked fine for several pdf printers
and connected USB laser printers.

Then, recently, I must have changed something accidentially in System.

When I now want to print (e.g. a Word doc or web page from Firefox) it doesn't work anymore.

EVERY printer does not work!

Further investigations revealed that the printer ports are vanished in printer Proprties dialogs.
Its completely empty!

Have a look at the attached snapshot.

I don't know which event or action caused the printer port deletion.
Maybe a new Win Patch or an uninstallation of driver or a registry key adding.

However re-installation of printer drivers does not help since the required underlying ports are gone.

How can I re-install them again?

Is there a manual Registry add script?

I just downloaded and installed Windows Virtual PC XP Mode to be able to run old software (Micrografx Designer) that worked on 32-bit XP.

The installation went fine, also installing Designer in the virtual machine. However, the printer is not found.

When restarting XP with the printer attached to a different port it was still not found.
What to do?

Having difficulty printer from Vista to Windows 7. Canon MP210 is connected via USB to Windows 7 machine. Sharing is on and otherwise functioning. from the Vista machine, I can see the printer but cannot print. I can see all other files shared.

A:Share Printer from Window 7 to Vista

If you can see the printer from Vista then check it's properties and see what the port is. Can you print a selftest from the Win7 machine?

Back to basics:
Remove the printer from Vista.
Check that "Printer and Sharing Service" is installed on both Windows. From "Network and Sharing Center", after clicking "Manage Network Connections" right click on "Local Area Connection" and then click "properties". You should see "Printer and Sharing" listed.

Then in the Network and Sharing Center make sure Printer Sharing is ON in the Win7 machine.

Then click "View Computers and Devices" in the Network and Sharing Center.

Can you even see the other machines? If not reboot and wait a few and try again.

English is not my native tongue, I apologize for any misspells or similar in advance.

I?m connected to a Konica Minolta C224 network multifunction printer. I have never had any similar issues with any other of my printers.

Let me also say I work in traditional Desktop view.

I have no issue printing, not once did it refuse a print job. Issue below are not tied to a specific software, I?ve experienced it in software from at least Microsoft, Autodesk, Adobe, Foxit?

When opening Print Dialog I am mostly not allowed to go to Printer Properties/Printer Advanced Settings. I say mostly because every now and then I am allowed. When hitting the Properties button my system freezes. A popup dialog box appears stating different things but the last couple of times it has been ?A RPC (Remote Procedure Call) could not get through? (Or similar ? remember: I?m not using an English system). I hit OK. At this point the software is frozen and locked ? I have to go via Task Manager and Kill Task. Meanwhile, all other running programs are not affected.

So the story above could just as well include a slightly different popup dialog box message but the problem is the same. I can always print with my standard settings but if I want for example multicolour or duplex I have to have a separate printer installation for that.

So if I go to my Control Panel -> Units and Printers I do actually face the exact same problem. I enter C224 Printer Settings but if I now try to go to Printer Properti... Read more

I have an NT server that has an HP 4050 three-tray printer set up on it. (The 4050 printer is attached to a print server on the LAN) When I go to the NT server to adjust the printer properties so that the printer will print to tray tree instead of tray two and click OK, the server does not remember the settings. So when I go back into the printer properties the configuration is still set up to print to tray 2. Does anyone have any suggestions I can try out? I already tried re-installing the driver for the printer.

A:HP 4050 printer properties on NT server can not remember it's settings

Have you check the defaults on the front control panel of the printer? If the printer thinks that there is not the correct paper in tray two, then it will go to the next tray that it thinks has the correct paper.

I was setting up some printers on a computer that were connected to the network.

Add a Printer > Local Printer (uncheck the box immediately below) > Create a Port: Standard TCP/IP Port

That's just how we do it. When I set up the ports, however, I did it wrong. Instead of, I created a port on which leaves me with more ports than printers. Can't find the setting that lets me go in there and delete the ports.

I *can* go into a printer's properties, select the port with a checkbox, and delete the port. But that also deletes (and makes me reinstall) the printer. What's the trick to getting just these ports deleted from my machine?

I have a Del 1600N Multi function printer that has been in use (successfully) for about two years on my home network. The printer has a built in NIC and is connected via a dedicated 10BaseT line to my network. This printer was working just FINE until I decided to use it as a fax. Some how during that process I must have cleared the network configuration and it stopped being visible on my network.

After some investigation into this I was able to get it back on the network my manually assigning it an IP address. Using the supplied installation DVD, I was able to install the printer onto my two desktop computers (running XP Pro 32 bit) and it works just as well as before.

The problem occurs with my wife's Dell laptop. Before the great "fax fiasco" (as I like to call my stupid attempt to use this printer as a fax machine), the laptop was able to find and print to this printer with very little problems. Now, not so much!

When I went to re-install this printer the first time I made sure that the Dell Printer software was uninstalled (via Control Panel--Uninstall Programs). The first attempt seemed to be going fine. The software detected the printer on the network and it looked like a successful install. However, the test page did not print out! I checked in the "Printer Properties" to make sure that the printer was on line and sure enough, it was. But there was a troubleshooting alert that told me the document didn't print. A:Dell 1600n Printer not showing up in Printer window

Well, I fixed it.

part of the problem is that the laptop in question has Windows 7 Home Edition. This version of Windows 7 is missing several of the administrative tools that come with Windows 7 Pro. So there is no way to access the PrintManagement.Msc to locate and delete the printer drivers that were not deleted by the Uninstall.

For this you need to first make sure you uninstalled the software, them to need to open Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Just locate the "Run" dialog box and type in "MMC". Another dialog box will show up. From the listing, locate the drivers you want to delete. There are two options. But I used the one that saws delete drivers and software.

Once they were gone I downloaded the latest 64bit drivers from Dell and then installed them. It worked like a charm.

I have an Hp C7280 All in one printer, that I've owned for about 5 years. For about the last year or so I have gotten this error message "Photo Tray Problem" It won't let me do anything with the printer when this happens. The tray is pushed all the way in and actually I never even use it. Ever! So I'm not sure why it randomly pops up? In the past, I would reset the printer by unplugging the power and letting it set for a couple of hours. Then it would work...until now. I have had this problem for over a week and have tried everything I can think of! I have...
1. Opened and closed the tray (to make sure it's as far in as it can go)
2. Cleaned it out with compressed air (made for printers)
3. Unplugged the power and let it sit for over 24 hours
4. Checked to see if anything is stuck inside or missing. It runs through it's cycles fine, although it's a little noisier than it usually is, not much just a little. (But it might just be louder because my face is shoved inside the printer to see what's wrong )
5. Tried to reset it using a sequence code to get to the "System Configuration Menu" I cleared out the Hardware failure status

Nothing is working! Any and all help is greatly appreciated!! I am desperate will try about anything!

I have a HP C5280 printer which has to date been working with no problems.I up-dated the driver soft ware as a download, which was successfully installed, however, when it came time to plug in the printer,it failed to install.I tried to add the printer manually, but the "error message 0x000003eb" kept occuring.I've contacted Hewlett Packard for help and - to their credit - tried fairly extensively to help solve the problem, but concluded it was a computer problem.I have un-installed/re-installed the software several times, but nothing seems to work. The printer is not listed in the printers box,but the software is recognised. The printer works in every other way.

When i try to install the printer it automatically says "found new hardware - SONY UPDr100 SCSI Printer" this is what i want to install but instead, its changes to say "found new hardware - generic printer" and installs it as the "generic printer".

On the device manager, the generic printer appears under the scsi and ieee1394 heading.

i have tried to disable the generic option and reinstall the printer but it doesnt work.

I just wondered if there's any way to stop the Add Hardware Wizard automatically installing the printer as a generic so i can install the sony drivers.

Hi there

(note Pos in title of post means Possible -- not the other meaning often shortend to pos !!).

Not being able to share printers easily WILL be a drawback.

I've run into what I hope is MY error but I can't see any way around this

Computer is running W8 Development Preview X-64 with a USB Epson 1290 Printer attached.

Printer works fine -- so no driver probs etc.

I want now to print from a Wireless Laptop running W7 X-64.

Normally it's easy between W7 machines or a mix of XP and W7 machines on the W7 remote machine add new local port \\BLACKDOG\Photoprinter

Then no prop.

(W8 Hostname is BLACKDOG, old shared name of the printer is Photoprinter).

On the W8 machine I can't find ANYWHERE to be able to set the printer shared name so not unnaturally the W7 remote machine can't connect.

I've got round the problem in a bit of a kak handed way -- I've got a W2K3 server VM also running on the W8 machine --so I've attached the USB printer via the VM settings to the VM W2K3 server machine -- now my remote W7 laptop can print.

(In the VM just disconnect the printer from the HOST and attach it to the VM -- then in the VM enable the printer as SHARED in the usual way and proceed just as if its a physical machine -- I've posted how to share printers between a mix of XP and W7 machines on the W7 Forums).
Here's the Shared setting for the printer I'm missing in W8 Where I can set the Shared Name

I am trying to troubleshoot a minor problem I'm having with a work PC.

It's running Windows 2000, and the printer in question is an HP Laserjet 1200, connected via a parallel cable. The printer works just fine. The problem is that Windows seems to detect this printer as not being installed after login. If just click cancel, the pop-up goes away, and that's about. If you check the Device Manager, the printer is listed in the "Other Devices" category, but shows no conflicts and the status of it says that the device is working properly.

I've noticed that this printer has a USB cable hanging out of it that is not attached to the PC. I'm wondering what would happen if I uninstalled the drivers, unplugged the LPT cable and used the USB, and then reinstalled. I'm going to try this, but in the mean time...what else might cause something like this to occur?

A:Solved: Installed Printer is detected as a "new" printer after every restart.

When you connect using USB, install the software and drivers and during install it will prompt to connect and power on the printer so it can be detected by the software and windows. If you connect it first, you run into the probability that it will be detected incorrectly and listed as an unknown human interface device or similar.

In device manager, go to view => show hidden devices
see if there are any with red X or yellow !
if so , delete them and restart.

I will be straight up to the point. I haven't installed the new updates of Windows yet. System was absolutely fine until today morning.

When I booted the system in the evening, flash popped to update, I said ok to it. Then I got the error msg - "endpoint mapper database error"

Ok, I assumed it to be a software related problem, tried checking out google.. It was suggested somewhere to try run sfc /scannow to fix any corrupt files (if any). I tried to open the cmd as an Administrator and once again I get this "endpoint mapper database error". I tried running Malwarebyte to check if system was infected & I get this "endpoint mapper database error" again.

Now, I'm clueless what to do further. I don't want to freshly install W7 all over again.. I have lots of files on this system & its my work system. Basically, I'm even worried.. what would happen if I try to restart the system - will the system even start now ?

I have received a brand new printer - Dell 1700n - installed yesterday. I keep receiving the error message: "There was an error writing to LPT1: for the printer. The printer is not ready. Make sure it is turned on and online."

This is the same error message I received from the last printer, which was replaced yesterday. Dell thought a brand new printer would fix the problem.

I have tried everything: install, uninstall, reinstall, power off, shut down, change ports, checked USB cables - NOTHING IS WORKING.

Dell is telling me I might need a new motherboard for my computer?

Thank you!

WIN 98 Printer Problem

Have you thought about upgrading your OS to Windows XP? I shouldn't imagine that you need a new motherboard as this will be your last action to take if all else fails(Dell's moneymaking scheme). Have you also tried formatting your harddrive and putting a clean copy of win 98 on? Have you tried downloading the latest drivers for your motherboard and printer etc? Have you tried changing USB cables ? Hope i've given you an idea.

Hi all!

I use PDFCreator, which is a neat and free piece of software. However, it has problems properly printing under some conditions. The easy fix is to open Printers, left click PDFCreator, pick "Printer properties", go "Ports", "Configure Ports", tick "Run as user".

Under XP, this fixed it all, with 7 I get the following error: "An error occurred during port configuration. Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000001)."

How can I bypass it?

I am recently encountering the following message whenever I try to print something on either of my 2 printers. I am using win98. I have 2 different printers. I tried to remove the printers and then reinstall them but this did not help. When I try to do the test page I get the above message telling me to add paper. I cannot think of anything that I did recently to cause this kind of problem. I have tried to reinstall windows but that did not help. After I did that Norton virus protection told me that it noted that something had changed in my partitioning and that it may be cause by either a virus or by me installing windows. I chose to ignore this problem. No virus was found. Several weeks ago I did have a warning of a worm virus which Norton Quaranteened. If I cannot figure out what is going on, I'll simply format and begin again. Any ideas?

ON the surface, it sounds to me as if you have a corruption of system files. The problem may be more extended than that, especially with some of the viruses around today.

A few things you can try:

Trend Micro's Housecall- http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

An online virus scanner. Takes a while to load, esp. over dialup, but is good for a quick check.

System Restore:

Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore. In the program that pops up, chose "Restore my computer to an earlier time." Click next. Then on the calendar that pops up, chose a date that has a bold number and is a day before the problems started happening. Click next, follow directions. You will have to reboot.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/plan/faqsrwxp.mspx has more info.

System File checker...

In the box that pops up put in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. Press enter. When it finishes, reboot the machine.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=310747 For more info.

Also be sure to run a scandisk on your harddrive and to check for bad sectors just in case.

Hope this helps! BTW- Welcome to Techspot!

Brother MFC-5440CN failed to print. Attempted re-install from original disk to no avail. Phoned Brother support and after several help attempts finally attempted to repair from "Repair MFC-Pro Suite" at original install disk. This action started to load but got error message, "Please perform again after ending installation under exeecution." There was no error number. Brother tech looked up notice and informed that it was a Windows error.

So, that's where it stands as I write this. What does error indicate?and how fix?

I've had the worst luck with this HP Officejet 6500.

For some reason my computer always sees it as "offline"

Well the only way to get it back online is to delete the old printer & add a "New Printer" via Devices & Printers

Usually that works even though it's severely a pain in the a**!

But now my computer isnt even seeing the printer at all any more to add?

I've restarted my computer twice, turned on/off the printer a few times, re-synced the printer within the wireless router successfully & it still isnt showing up.

Any ideas?

I really need this up & running asap to finish my work, but I also need to get to the bottom of the problem of this stupid thing going "offline" and making me re-add a new printer.

It makes using the computer so frustrating. It happens a couple of time a week maybe.

It should be there ready to print any time I need it once I sync it up properly.

Hi. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Suddenly, my printer no longer receives recognition from the computer. It worked just fine for over 6 months, and simply won't be recognized any longer. Re-installing drivers doesn't help. Any ideas?

I have attached some pictures for reference. It seems the computer recognizes the hardware is there, and that it is an HP Laserjet 1018 installed. The services that normally run in the background responsible for printing seem to be haywire, though.

One dialogue says that the "print spooler service" is not running. Huh? Another said, "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable."

A:Printer Services Haywire & "Add Printer" Broken

Have you tried completely removing the printer software ?? HP used to have a utility for some of its printers that went beyond a normal uninstall and removed all traces of the printer. You might look for that. Once removed, install the latest from HP again, making sure to follow any specifics about when the printer should be plugged in.

Have you restarted the spooler or the computer as prompted ??

If you're not part of an Active Directory domain, the service shouldn't be running.

I have three PCs all running Windows 7 64bit. PC A has a HP LJ 1320n printer connected to it via USB. All three PCs are on the same domain. PC A is sharing HP1320n.
PC B and PC C can see the share and when they attempt to install the drivers I get the above error "Connect to Printer - Windows cannot connect to the printer Operation failed with error 0x0000007c.
Speaking with the users all was working fine until recently, I am currently trying to troubleshoot windows updates. I have already removed and reinstalled the printer on PC A and PC B (making sure it is not the computer). I have stopped and restarted the
printer spooler as well as clearing out the printer from the registry. Windows firewall has also been turned off as a test. Does anyone have any further suggestions?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Thankyou! Thankyou! Perrylea

If you are reading this, your solution helped me reinstall my printer. I was getting the print spooler app error message in Vista, as you were, and this is what I did upon following the advice in your blog. You definately helped me with a frustrating problem, and now I would like to help others with the same problem.

1. I went to Device Manager and clicked on View -> Show Hidden
Devices. Selected System Devices. And Uninstalled both the UMBus
Enumerator as well as the UMBus Root Bus Enumerator.

2. Rebooted.

3. Downloaded the drivers for my printer (Dell A960)

4. Installed the drivers for my printer from the download.

5. Printer worked.

This is this readers digest condensed version of Perrylea's solution.

My trusty old Canon printer S400 finally has decided to act up and quit on me after several years. I am getting an Error 5700 when I attempt to print to it. I can not locate what this error means.

If someone knows, I'd appreciate it.

A:Canon printer error 5700 on S400 printer

I don`t know what the error means, but have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling the printer?

Check the cables for damage and connection.

If this doesn`t work then maybe a new printer is in order.
