Intel Centrino drops internet connectivity

Q: Intel Centrino drops internet connectivity

I upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Upgraded the Wireless Network Adapter Driver to the latest version, but still losing connectivity, and some times get the blue screen with the message "driver power state failure". It looks to me that the Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230, Single Band is not compatible with Windows 10 SW. I would like to know if HP has an alternative to replace it with a compatible Network Adapter. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a relatively new (few months) laptop of my own running Win7 x64 with an "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030" wireless network adapter. For some reason, I have serious problems connecting to most wireless networks. On my home network there are rarely problems, but when I attempt to any other network (college, or public hotspot, or neighbor's open wireless) there are often issues.

By "issues" I mean: when I first attempt to connect to the network in question, I'm usually able to connect to the first few sites I try to access, but usually after a second or a minute or a few minutes of normal connectivity, I'm suddenly unable to access anything. The browser's response is that DNS lookup has failed; when I record an IP address (via ping-command prompt) and type it in manually after this point, the browser's response is that "##.##..." is taking too long to respond, etc..." No other program is able to connect either. I have tried setting different DNS servers but it has had no visible effect. At this point, the only thing I can do to reconnect is to either wait a long time for the connection to reestablish itself (which can take an hour or more and isn't guaranteed) or to go to Device Manager and disable and reenable the wireless adapter, which then *sometimes* allows me to reconnect for a few seconds or a minute or an hour before connectivity breaks again. When the connection fails, Windows displays the computer ... Read more

I had the same issue too. My GF's laptop has a 1030 wireless NIC and it had all sorts of issues connecting to the APs in my house. It would work fine with her Linksys wireless router and my Sprint MiFi. But had connectivity/performance problems when connecting to either of my Netgear APs (WG102 and WNDAP350) along with my PC W 620 wireless controller with AP 105 and AP 125 access points. Updating the drivers helped the problem somewhat, but we were still experiencing dropped packets or extremely high latency when connected. Upon a suggestion from one of my coworkers, I tried adjusting the performance/power settings in Windows and that seemed to have fixed the problem. The laptop has been running fine ever since.

Hi, i have upgraded my laptop to windows 10 recently. after upgradation, my intel wireless centrino n2230 card has started connectivity problems. it turns off and donot detects any wifi network where as network is available and can be detected by other devices. i disable and re-enable network device in device manager then it starts working. this connectivity issues happen oftenly. i have upgraded driver through widows 10 as well but issue is not fixed. i have googled this problem and seen that no one has found a permanent and reasonable solution to it so i have decided to replace this wireless adapter with some one that has compatibility with my notebook and operating system as well. please suggest me few device models (both single and dual band) that as compatible with my book and windows 10. since i want to upgrade the card so i would prefer some device with dual band and 2 stream. Thanks..may

Hi, I new to this forum and have been searching for the the posts with internet keeps dropping off etc. My problem seems to be with the two laptops with Centrino wireless adapters. My daughter has a Dell with Centrino and was complaining that her wireless keeps dropping out and the other 3 laptops in the house had no problems, I bought a new Samsung laptop the other day and my wireless keeps dropping out on it as well. I looked at all the settings and stuff in the posts I found and noticed that I have a Centrino with advanced N6325 and remembered that my daughters dell also has a Centrino wireless, this is the only similarities that I noticed and can find no reason why I am loosing internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated, for me it is just annoying but my daughter is in Nursing school and really needs a good connection. Thank You in advanced for Your help and Happy Easter to all - John

A:Internet drops out on laptops with Centrino but not others

Do you have the same problem with an ethernet connection?

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hello, I would first like to say Hi I'm Brian!

I've been using computers for a very long time now but I occasionally run into some errors.

I was wondering why Firefox keeps telling me that I'm not connect to wireless Internet, even when my toolbar says that I am. I know that I'm still connected because I can still be downloading a program using a third-party downloader at the same time as Firefox is acting up. I've also been trying to use Internet Explorer and it doesn't work either.

I use Windows 7, I've had this computer for less than two weeks!

I also have another question and I through my experience on forum websites, it's better to reduce clutter so I'll post it here: My firewall on McAfee will disconnect right after I click connect?

I've run anti-malware software and it constantly tells me that I have no malware at all!

There haven't been any glitches or lags that tell me I have a virus. Could I have one? McAfee doesn't detect any but I'm sure it's possible that a virus could be hiding somewhere...

hi,

I have a big problem with an hp brio pentiom pc.
it is a network computer running win98se, 128mb ram, 500mhz cpu chip. it is a networked pc connected to verizon DSL through a 4- port linksys router which is connected to an SMC switch we have at work. All other computers on the network do not have this problem except for this pc and another dell optiplex gx1 pc with the same specifications as this one.
What happens is that after 4 or 5 hours the pc's disconnect themselves from the internet and i have to reboot them to regain connectivity.
it's a pain because on one machine we are running gotomy pc software because we have employees who log on from home and do work. overnight the machines disconnected and we cannot get work done. i have tried to re-install tcp/ip. also diabled any power management on the harddrive within windows and the bios but still disconnects. also forgot to mention both these machines that disconnect after 4 or 5 hours have static ip addresses they are not obtaining any leases from a DHCP server.
please help me;

Sounds like a DHCP lease renewal. I would call your ISP and ask them why it is disconnecting at that time interval. It also sounds like Code Red symptoms.

My internet connection is strong, all 5 bars. Randomly though, the connection will be dropped down to Limited Connectivity. Once I disconnect, then reconnect, the internet connection is fine. I can continue browsing with full signal strength. A few minutes later, it's been dropped to limited connectivity again.

We have three laptops in the house. The two Dell's we have are both dropping the internet. The HP laptop hasn't dropped once. My laptop has never had this problem on any other networks I use (I'm only home for the month from school). My parents have said that they never had this problem before on the other Dell either. The fact that the HP still hasn't dropped the connection once makes me thing it might not be the router? I have no idea. Any suggestions???

Lets assume a PC issue as other devices are solid assuming they are connected in the same way - ie cable or wireless

I would suggest first looking at the DELL service TAG numbers on a label on the PC and using that info to goto the dell website and updating the network adapter drivers

If wireless lets see an xirrus screen shot - it maybe interference - but would expect all to drop connection

Lets also see the ipconfig /all and ping tests when its working and also when it disconnects - see below

{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Direct link to the program is here http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifi_download_redirect.php
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

Hello,

I'm using Win 7 64 bit. Recently, over the past week or so, I've noticed that the internet connectivity will drop after a little while. It can be 5m or perhaps an hour. After this, a reboot is required to reconnect. The strange part about this, is that the icon in the corner that tells you your network connectivity status stays at 5 bars rather than the familiar 5 bars with a caution sign as if there isn't an issue.

Some tests I've tried after this happened before a reboot:

1. ping google.com in cmd
RESULT: Strangely, I receive ping packets back from google, which may explain why the status in the corner stays the same.
2. telnet to google.com on port 80 and send a request.
RESULT: telnet acts strangely. Characters appear black on black and thus are unreadable. I was unable to send an HTTP request to google, and thus the result is inconclusive.
3. Check facebook notifications in chome
RESULT: Oddly enough, I can receive notifications, but I cannot reply, nor click on a new link to open the notification.

After the connection "drops", you will not be able to use chrome, nor firefox to access the internet. Both browsers will send requests that never return packets from the host. One guess I have is that the connectivity does not drop completely, but drops to a pace that is so slow, little information can be loaded.

My initial response to this was: "I have a virus". I downloaded AVG, ran a scan, it found a few viruses, removed them f... Read more

A:Internet connectivity drops; No change in taskbar icon

It sounds like either TCP/IP network stack or winsock is messed up which is a fairly typical problem but virus problems can look like many things.

If it's a virus problem run more scans.

You should also run malwarebytes to check for more virus's .
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_pro/

Windows security essentials is also worth using.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=5201

If you did have a virus it may have messed up the network stack or winsock.

Winsock entries tells Windows 7 how to access your network services. Additionally, your TCP/IP protocol can be corrupted. The TCP/IP protocol is a stack of 4 layers that includes several transport layers, but when this stack is corrupt you will constantly have connectivity issues.

Type or copy each command one at a time into an elevated command prompt then hit "enter" after each one, then reboot your machine.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

If it's something on the wireless side then you should install Xirrus wifi inspector. A screen shot of this will show me the wireless landscape in your area and adjustments can be made from there.

Ill try and be breaf, i have a home security system (arlo) which depends on wifi to function. the cameras are wireless and require my network connection to work. so it dawned on me that my children can just unplug the internet if they want to sneak out (hopefully they haven't figured that out, but if i have they most likely have as well). i want a way or program i can use that will monitor the internet and alert me via email/txt or any other way, that my internet is down!
i apologize in advance if this is something already answered. i simply cannot find what i want. something basic, that just records or alerts me when my internet isnt working. 24/7

A:tracking (monitoring/logging) internet connectivity & drops in connection.

Tell the kids that your alarm company called because your wireless connection went down and they receive a message to this affect and they wanted to know if this was something they should dispatch the police to.  Explain that you don't know how the wifi went down, but if it does go down this will be the response in the future.

Years and years ago I was involved with alarm systems that were connected to a dialer which would call the alarm company when the alarm system was tripped.  When the phone lines were cut the company monitoring the alarm system would see this as the system being tripped and dispatch the police.  So I wouldn't be surprised if they have some means of monitoring you system from their end.  It may be worth calling then to find out what does happen when you wifi goes down.

Hi TSG,

I have a Sony Vaio laptop (WinXP) with B/G wireless integrated card connecting to a 8011/B Netgear DG824M AP/Firewall/Router acting as a DHCP (or is it DCHP?). I have connected to the router and other desktops/laptops on my wireless home network in the past.

But - the connection intially shows up as "Excellent" but then is lost and I am unable to reconnect. I have researched this problem on the net and have changed battery power saving setting, installed the latest Intel drivers, removed MS XP SP1 WAP patches that may have caused a problem and released & renewed the IP address many times but to no avail.

My Intel ProSET software says that the wired connection has an IP address of the 'correct' 192.168.0.2 (even though it is unplugged) but the wireless card has 0.0.0.0 (cannot renew its IP address). Have these adapters gotten confused or are there some other things I can try to sustain a connection?

many thanks in advance.

You'd have to purchase a high end amd cpu to contend with the mid ranged c2d models.

As far as c2d and centrino, the difference is pwr consumption and performance. About 40% with some models.

What does the centrino have that the reg. core 2 doesn't?

Hi I was wondering which is more powerful for a laptop/notebook. Intel Core Centrino duo processor vs. Pentium 4 with hyperthreading. I know they both have different speeds like 2300-2600 for the centrino one and pentium 4 3-3.8ghz but when I asked some coworkers which they thought is better, all said the centrino one because of the powersaving and the duo processor. However, when I search Alienware's site for laptops, the pentium 4 processor computer seems to be significantly higher in price with all other options configured the same. Why would this be if the Centrino duo processor is faster and uses less power? Which is generally a better chip? What would the
Intel Core Duo Processor T2300 1.66GHz 2MB Cache 667MHz FSB
be equivalent to in terms of a Intel Pentium 4 Processor 531 w/ HT Technology for example speed wise? I'm so confused right now. I would greatly appreciate a response! Please forgive me if it's a no brainer.

Help!!   After one of MS's updates in the recent past, I am having issues with wifi. The icon showing wifi connection does not appear. The antenna setup that is present in your notebook restricts you from installing a dual band or more modern wifi adapter module.  Your notebook's antenna setup is a 1 x 1. For what you are asking about,  a 2 x 2 antenna setup is required. If you want 802.11ac then your only simple option is to use a USB version. Perhaps it is time to consider upgrading to a more modern notebook.

A:drivers for Intel 855 Centrino Chipse(from China)

Hi leo & welcome to SevenForums,

You may want to download the drivers directly from Intel here Intel? 852/855 Chipset Family - Chipset information and downloads and click the drivers you want (click 'download'). You will find that Windows 7 is not listed as operating system, don't worry, just download the next best thing (XP or Vista).

Make sure you download the EXE version of the file and save it. Next, open up explorer and go to where you saved it and right-click the exe file you downloaded & select properties. In the compatability tab select the compatability you want to use (based on either XP/Vista). Now click ok and run the file, if asked if you wish to install an older driver select yes.

The driver should install with no errors & restart your PC. You can now run Windows Update to allow Windows to install a more up-to-date driver.

Hope this helps

Hello all,

My friend is having trouble with her laptop. Specs:

Lenovo Laptop
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
8.0 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
Intel Centrino Wireless N 1000

She has been having issues for the last few days where her computer will lose internet connection. Her other devices such as her iPhone still work properly on the WiFi. Only the laptop is affected. She says it seems to happen after a half hour so of usage. She has to restart to get it to work again.

I used TeamViewer to remote into her computer and looked at it. It didnt look like anything was out of the ordanary. I ran virus and malware scans, ran sfc /scannow to make sure it wasnt Windows corruption. All of those came back fine. I try to update the driver, but the driver installer will show a screen for about 5 seconds, disappear never to be seen again. Which kinda leads into the next problem.

There are certain files and applications that will not execute on her laptop. They will show the error:

<file path> is not a valid Win32 application.

It seems to be random. I can download one file and it will say that, but the next one will be fine. It doesnt seem to have any rhyme or reason to it. Because of this I cant get the drivers to update, so it seems that I will have to fix that issue before anything else.

Any ideas on this one?

A:Intel Centrino Wireless N 1000 Issues

The problem might be with the laptop, but the solution might be with the WAP - Wireless Access Point (router?).

You might check to see what channel the WAP is using and if it can be set to use one protocol (as opposed to b/g/n).

See the bottom of this post...
Basic Requirements Before Posting your Networking Thread

Once the connectivity issue is resolved, we can look into the file execution (corruption?) issue.

I'm also not entirely sure where the part number on the wireless card is, all I can really see that might be it is a 'PNOP' number. Thanks in advance!

I'm running Windows 8 on a Samsung laptop which I've had since April of this year. The wireless adapter is as mentioned in the thread title, driver version 15.5.6.48. Windows update has been telling me there is an update for this adapter. I hadn't acted on it because the adapter is working and I don't see a need to update it right now. It was fine with a Linksys router, never a problem. At my current location, I am using a Netgear router and all was well until I updated the router's firmware. The laptop had intermittent connection drops until I rolled back the router's firmware. (I think the problem is Netgear's firmware in this case, not my drivers.) Since rolling back the router firmware, the laptop has had no connection issues whatsoever.

Today I see that the driver has been downloaded, so I have the warning that it is ready to be installed. I am wondering if I should go ahead and install it. And would I be able to roll the driver back if there are problems?

Edited to add:

I'm seeing this thread:

https://communities.intel.com/message/189189

It looks like I might be better off staying with the driver I have. I guess that's the thing--these manufacturers may make changes to the adapter such that an updated downloaded from anyone other than them (in this case Samsung) may not work. I've never updated graphics or wireless drivers on my other machines (XP and 7), choosing an 'if it ain't broke' approach.

I also see that Windows Update tried and failed twice to... Read more

OK, I know I'm replying to my own thread, but maybe we can mark this as solved. I looked up the error message I was getting related to this update. It was number 0x80070103. I looked that up, and got this:

Windows Update error 0x80070103 - Microsoft Community

This error message indicts that, if you receive Windows Update error 0X80070103 while installing updates, you might be trying to install a driver that's already installed or a driver that might be less compatible than one you already have installed on your computer.

I have decided not to install this driver and I have hidden this update so that Windows stops pestering me about it.

I have been having issues with my wireless adapter (Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N6150). it has been a few weeks that this problem has been occurring. The adapter will all of a sudden disappear. Initially I would just scan for hardware changes in my device manager and that would do the trick but now it does not. So there are days I start my computer and the wireless adapter is no where to be found. Troubleshooting does not solve the problem. Also I browsed through the internet and i saw that people who were having this issue they would disable there 802.11n Mode that helped for a few days but it has started to fail again. Now for the past 2 weeks also I have had three crashes, sometimes by restarting the computer the wireless adapter would appear again and so on three separate occasions I tried restarting the computer but it failed to shutdown and I got the Blue screen of death. (it said driver power state failure)

Does anyone have any information as to what I can do to fix this problem. Can anyone please explain what is wrong with my laptop? PLease any help is appreciated.

On Tuesday night I booted up my notebook and saw that the wifi wasn't working. Instead of the standard wifi icon, it was a box with a red x in it. Starting back in November of last year, it seemed like every other day, or every two days, I would have to troubleshoot the wifi connection to get it to work. It would usually just have that little asterisk near it. And it would fix itself and stay on, but Tuesday I only got it to work twice for about 30 mins each time. At first, I couldn't get the wifi switch to stay on in Network & Connections. Then the section for Wifi didn't show up at all. I have done almost every suggestion I could find online to fix this issue. I did a system restore back to last week, when a Windows update was done and that didn't solve anything. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers from Intel and HP twice. I have tried changing the power setting, it was already on max power. I tried resetting the IP address but got an error, I also tried to boot in Safe Mode and that did nothing.  At this point, the Intel wireless driver on shows up in device manager when I choose the show hidden drivers. The connection doesn't show up at all in Network Connections anymore. So, do I need to replace the physical wifi card or is there any other solution to try?

Okay so I've made the decision that I want to buy a new wireless card and physically replace my intel centrino n2230 on my windows 9.1 laptop This card has given me hell as long as I've had my laptop (which by the way is the HP Envy Dv 433ea - a seeming non existant laptop that I can't find support for anywhere on the internet)  Before anyone advises to update drivers or anything don't bother.  I have literally tried everything from the latest drivers to the oldest drivers and everything in between. The connection I get it always slow and will periodically drops disconnecting mefrom the internet - which I have concluded is the most frustrating thing I've ever had to deal with. So to the actual question. I've heard there are things such as bios restricions and there will obviously be size restrictions so I wanted to check with someone a little more experienced before I go out and buy a wirelss card that doesn't do the trick. So again I guess the question I'm asking is: What wireless card do I buy that will not cause any of the afformentioned problems that will fit in my laptops card slot and that will work with the bios? Thank you so much I know this was a long question but I have to stress how much this card has pissed me off I have been running around left right and center trying to get a fix but no avail - this is kind of my last resort.

Electronic recycling or computer recycling or e-waste recycling is the recycling of computers and any other electronic devices. Recycling is the complete deconstruction of electronic devices in order to cut down on mining the raw materials and rather extract the materials from old and obsolete electronics. Obsolete computers and old electronics are valuable sources for secondary raw materials, if recycled; if not, these devices are a source of toxins and carcinogens. Rapid technology change, low initial cost, and planned obsolescence have resulted in a fast-growing surplus of computers and other electronic components around the globe. Technical solutions are available, but in most cases a legal framework, collection system, logistics, and other services need to be implemented before applying a technical solution. For more information please visit the websit of electronic recycle center.
Thanks a lot.

Post here and ask Peter (Ex_Brit) to send you the link to the versions of Vista you need, 32 or 64. Include your E-mail address mucked up, like abc at xyz DOT com then edit your post and remove it as soon as you receive the link.

The ISO Peter provides has both SP1 and SP2 applied.

Hello everyone,

I recently received a Samsung avit book 4, which has an Intel Cintrino Advance N-6235 wifi adapter. I just did a clean install of Windows 8.1, but I downloaded Samsung Update software to update some drivers, but for the most part I have standard Windows drivers. I have the latest intel wifi driver from their website I; version 17.13.11. The adapter didn't seem to have issues before, and normally maintains connectivity. I recently had the signal drop out, but it typically doesn't happen.
My issue is that I noticed the signal fluctuate up and down even when maintaining full connectivity. (See picture below). It will fluctuate near top speed for whatever router I am on and very low speed <100 kb/s
Is this normal behavior?

Thanks again,

- Joey

A:Intel Centrino N 6235 signal Oscillation: Is this normal?

Yes if there is a lot of congestion. As for speeds, it will only show when data is being transmitted. Depending on the size of the packets and how many, the bandwidth will vary.

Hello all, I am having issue enabling the 802.11n settings for my WiFi card that is supposed to have N grade (300 Mbps) capabilities. The card standards are 802.11b/g/n. According to Intel's white sheet for the Intel? Centrino? Wireless-N 1000, it should be able to utilize the N grade WiFi speed capabilities. However, I'm not seeing the setting available in the Advanced settings of the driver. The attached screenshot shows that there are only b & g settings available. This is most inconvenient because my internet speed was just upgraded to 105 Mbps & I'd like to at least enjoy a little. I'm not getting anything above 50 Mbps. Is anyone else having this issue?

A:Where Are The N WiFi Settings For Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000?

It's the same for ALL Intel WiFi products. Wireless Mode for Intel is basically using ABG, BG, AG, A, G, and B modes only. (see screenshot)

For Centrino series, there's a menu called "802.11n mode" and from there you can use it to enable or disable WiFi N

For 7260 series, it is called "HT mode" and if you disable that, the NIC will refuse to connect to N network and will operate on G or A.

FYI, there's a difference between what Windows say on the connection rate and the actual rate. The actual rate depends on RF environment, walls between the computer, antenna gain, and power management. The best actual speed you can get is around 40 - 50 % of the speed reported by Windows.

Getting an actual speed of 50 Mbps means that you're already connected to WiFi N. I might guess that the connection rate reported by Windows is probably 144 Mbps. 50 Mbps is close to the maximum actual throughput of 70 - 75 Mbps. You can change the settings on your router to "force" 40 MHz channel width on the 2.4 GHz band and then set the "802.11 Channel width for 2.4 GHz to" "Auto" to allow the adapter to use 40 MHz channel width.

If successful, this should give you 300 Mbps reported connection rate and around 130 - 180 Mbps of actual speed. Therefore, your 100+ Mbps internet speed should be covered provided that your environment has little to none RF interference and the laptop is within line of sight of the router.

Ok. so I'm trying to install this Intel 802.11bg driver on my Tosh lappy. (I am installing it from a USB Flash drive, since the machine has no network connections.)

I install in XP2 compatability mode, and the report is that the installation is correct. But on restart, "Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter".

Is there a workaround?

Hi all,

I have an Asus U56E which has an Intel Centrino 6150 Wireless N + Wimax network adapter on it. This card ran fine the first few months I had it. Then I installed Ubuntu 12.04 with my windows install and ran it dual boot. The card worked fine on Windows but I had to make some configuration changes on Ubuntu for it to run. I did that and it worked fine still. Then, naively, I installed a registry cleaner (wise registry cleaner to be exact), and some time after installing it and running it regularly (usually 2-3 times a week) something went wrong and I started getting this issue with my card. What happens is the wireless will be functioning for some time, perfectly normal, and then it will just lose internet connection. I will have to disable and re-enable the adapter through device manager to get it to work but that only works sometimes, most of the time the device just won't start again and I will get the device can not start error in device manager. Also, when this happens I usually restart my computer and sometimes when I do that (or even when I just turn my laptop on or come back from putting it to sleep) the adapter is not recognized at all, doesn't even show up in device manager. What's most odd about that is that the Wimax still shows up on the list of network adapters but the wireless doesn't show up.

The steps I have taken to try and remedy this issue are, re-install the drivers (by uninstalling them first) from both the asus and intel websites, do a fre... Read more

Hello and welcome Sphoenix am no expert but one thing I don't ever do is us reg cleaners I use CCleaner to fix reg issues only. Having said that I find it hard to believe that any software would wreck the network card or any other hardware piece for that matter.

You say you have reinstalled 7 just how did you do that/ and have you still got Ubuntu on board? If not then why not make a bootable disk and use the try Ubuntu to see if you can access the net if you can perhaps there is something wrong with your 7 install.

You could also look through the reg for that registry cleaner entries as although unlikely maybe there are remnants left over. But it would be good to know how you re installed the Windows first.
