printui.exe /ia cannot get past The Argument is Invalid.

Q: printui.exe /ia cannot get past The Argument is Invalid.

hi everyone hoping I can get some help here.
I am trying to install only the driver for an HP LaserJet P1102W to multiple windows 7 64 bit laptops. Group policy is not an option and we do not have server 2012 to use the add-driver from powershell.
I am trying to use printui.exe but keep getting errors even after I have followed multiple examples on the web and microsoft websites.
I am trying this locally before I incorporate it into a script so I am logged into the pc as the domain administrator
This is the command I am using:
printui.exe /ia /f c:\p1102w64bit\hp1100.inf /m "HP LaserJet P1102W"
I keep getting the error the Argument is invalid.
Does anyone have any ideas.
Thanks,
Phil

Preferred Solution: printui.exe /ia cannot get past The Argument is Invalid.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: printui.exe /ia cannot get past The Argument is Invalid.

Personally, I would not use printui.exe to implement printers or printer drivers programmatically.
Tip!
I would use printui.exe on Server Core installations, because installing printers and printer drivers without a Graphical User Interface (GUI) might be tricky.
Instead, I would use either the Printing Admin Scripts or PowerShell.

The Printing Admin Scripts
On Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 there?s a folder named C:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts. In it you?ll find a folder named after the locale the OS was installed. This folder contains several *.vbs scripts.
prndrvr.vbs seems to do exactly what you want.
Print-related PowerShell cmdlets
The promise of PowerShell is to provide a more straightforward, human-readable shell. It?s good to know, then, Windows comes with several Print-related PowerShell Cmdlets:

Add-Printer, Get-Printer, Set-Printer, Rename-Printer, and Remove-PrinterAdd-PrinterDriver, Get-PrinterDriver, and Remove-PrinterDriverAdd-PrinterPort, Get-PrinterPort, and Remove-PrinterPortGet-PrintConfiguration and Set-PrintConfigurationGet-PrinterProperty and Set-PrinterPropertyGet-PrintJob, Restart-PrintJob, Suspend-PrintJob, Resume-PrintJob, and Remove-PrintJob
The Add-PrinterDriver Cmdlet looks to be the Cmdlet for this purpose.

I have a batch file to install Local IP printers on remote workstations. I use the following printui.dll command to install the driver .... RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /ia /b 114_110578 /f E:\Xerox\X-GPD_PCL6_32_Driver\x2UNIVX.inf /r 114_10.140.229.43
/m "Xerox Global Print Driver PCL6" /c\\dmo-hp2530 /h "x86"
The command works fine when installing a printer on a remote XP box. But it errors immediately with "Invalid Arguments" when I try to install a printer on a remote Windows 7 box.
If I remove the /c argument and run it manually on a Windows 7 system it installs the drivers locally without issue.
Is there a "new" argument (to go with the /c argument) needed if pushing out to a remote Windows 7 system???
Thanks .......

Are the computers in domain? What is the advanced sharing settings of the Windows 7 printer server?
Have you disabled Password Protected Sharing? If so, please check related policy settings.
1. Open GPedit.msc.
2. Locate to Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Options.

3. In the right pane, double-click on “Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts”. By default it is enabled. Please disable it.
How does it work now?
If the issue still occurs, I suggest you download and install Netmon 3.4. From the Network Monitor you can see whether the computer communicate with the remote Windows 7 computer after this command runs.
Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4

From IE-6 on XP, when attempting to set an internet picture as background, I receive an invalid argument error message. Yet, the background gets reset to blue. I can go to Desktop, and for the Internet Explorer Wallpaper, see the intended picture, and can manually make it occur by clicking on another background and then back to the Internet Explorer Wallpaper. It just doesn't happen automatically as before. I must have done something to prevent this. Any ideas? I've tried restoring Windows but nothing improves.

Go to start Type in Services.msc hit enter.

Locate Procedure Call services try disabling it then enable it again also make sure all dependencies for it are active.

Also make sure your printer spooler is active also. Both should be on "Automatic"

Reboot.

If that don't work go to Start then Run. Type in SFC /SCANNOW

Then reboot.

I have Windows XP, service pack 3,512mb memory-IE,Chrome and Firefox browsers. In IE only I have been getting invalid procedure call or argument (code 0,line 5,character 13) errors- sometimes object not found etc. also. Everything works (with page may not work properly message) but I have to close the error box after almost every mouse click to proceed-very annoying! I also get the error in Outlook Express (which I have quit using anyway since it started screwing up months ago) but not in my ISP webmail -it works fine. I have not seen these errors before and don't know how to fix. I like Firefox much better than IE but would still like to fix the issue. I have noticed js.somrthing in the error box- is this javascript? Should I remove Outlook Express since it isn't working properly? THANKS PS- As far as I know everything is up to date. I have Avast anti-virus and ran Malwarebytes just for kicks.

when in command prompt i type... takeown /f c:\program files\avg\avg2012\avgsysx.dll

it returns with ERROR: Invalid Argument/Option - 'files\avg\avg2012\avgsysx.dll'

i am assuming that it's because there is a space in program files, i've tried typing it as c:\program_files\.... and c:\program%files.... but neither works... anybody? anything?

thanks p

A:help me w/ cmd prompt- invalid argument/option- 'Files\....\...'

I've never used takeown, but...

are you trying to run this from c:\ ?????

can you instead navigate (change directories) to a prompt at C:\program files\avg\avg2012 and then just run takeown /f avgsysx.dll?

Or can you temporarily move or copy avgsysx to c:\temp and then run the command and then copy it back to avg folder if necessary?

Hi there, Im looking for help to settle a chidish, silly argument.

For months now i have been at a war of words with a close "friend" about the following question

"Is it ok to power a desktop PC down numerious times in a day say 3 or 4 times?"

The argument from my friend is that It damages the motherboard and therefore desktop PC's need to be kept on all the time and rarely rebooted. She wont ever power the PC off because this damages the motherboard. She also has an uncle to backup her argument who is a hardware guy who says not to power a PC down even overnight.

My argument is that this is utter utter nonsence and PC's are robust and can be powered down without causing any damage to the PC/Motherboard. I have stated that you can power a PC on and off, even with the button on the front, none stop for an hour and the thing will most likely be fine.

Can you guys please please offer a none biased solution and answer. She refuses to listen and has said she will post on here to prove how wrong i am. Im being told i dont have a clue what im talking about despite being in IT for 5 years now and to be honest im getting sick of it.

Thanks for the help with this wee domestic

Howdy,Ok guys i'm trying to settle an argument with 3 friends, heres what i need to know !!
Can anyone give me the name of a virus, trojan or worm you are using for your source that doesn't need a registry entry to operate ???
Will system restore remove all viruses or trojans on a hard drive if you ran it ????

Thanks

A:Settle An Argument

I don't recall the name of the particular spyware or virus but I think it involves k.exe or other one letter executables. They are added to the root of the C: drive (ie C:\k.exe) and are run when you boot, as is everything at the root of C: and therefore don't need a registry entry.

System Restore is more likely to restore viruses. AV scans consistently find them archived there.

A:Lost recovery argument

@Abdullah-909909 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Sorry, but I have no idea what an "intermediate recovery" is, so I can't help you on that. The HP Recovery Manager only provide one attempt to create HP Recovery Media.  Once you have used that, you can not make the media a second time.  That's how it works. However, you can consider using a third-party tool known as Macrium Reflect to make recovery media as many times as you like. I prefer to use third-party recovery solutions for the following reasons:1) More flexibility and reliabilty -- can make recovery media as often as you like, not restricted to one attempt, which if it fails, then you are stuck.2) More media options -- can create media in DVD, USB stick, or external drive format3) Mounting option -- can "mount" the save images as virtual "drives" and extract individual files and folders4) WinPE boot option -- can install a special boot option that allows you to boot to recovery information and do a repair or restore from there -- when Windows will not bootWhat I recommend is the following:1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from here: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive, USB stick, or DVDs3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CDMy experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typ... My desktop is 7 years old. It originally came with Windows Millenium, but I eventually reformatted and purchased & installed a full copy of Windows XP Home.

I want/need to replace the desktop this year and REALLLLLY want to stay with Windows XP, since we have 3 laptops in the house with XP, and I have some old softwares (MS Office 95) that I want to continue using. The desktop is mostly used for digital photos, bookkeeping and email. We aren't really "gamers" on the desktop.

Sooooo, what would be the best way to go about replacing my old desktop w/ something new or "newer" that has Windows XP? Can I purchase a desktop with Vista & reformat it to have Windows XP or ???? Should I be hunting down a reliable "used" desktop? Is there such a thing?

Thanks in advance for any ideas you can provide

A:The argument for keeping Windows XP!

Check the www.compusa.com site because they still sell some desktops(mostly refurbished) with Windows XP.

---------------------------------------------------------------

A 7-year old desktop is very capable of handling Windows XP, as long as the supported RAM amount is maxed out and you don't do anything processor-hungry or memory-hungry in it.

Believe it or not, I'm running Windows XP in an old HP Pavilion 8565C with an Intel Pentium III 500 MHz processor and 384 MB of PC100 RAM. It may be a little slow at times, but it works fine for basic computing.

My dad and I am arguing about whether junk on computers will effect internet performance. What he means by junk I think is space occupied on my hard drive. I have no problems with that for now, I still have 55 GB out of 200 GB left of space, and on a monthly basis I do a check up on viruses, files I no longer use on my computer, arranging files, all that. I say otherwise, that the internet speed is, well, the internet speed. He uses www.speedtest.net to check the speed, and it says that it has a outstanding 2 Mbps+ of download speed. I don't think that's true, because whenever I download something (I'm usually right next to the router), I always get 200 Kbps. 500 Kbps if I'm lucky. Same on the computer he tests the website on. Do you guys trust speedtest.net to give good results, or is it something else probably?Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A:Having an Argument on Internet Speed?

Too many variables unanswered to be able to tell you with any sort reliability. Wired vs wireless, hardware performance benchmarks for each machine? Time of day each speed test is run and are any other factors affecting the home network at the time tests and or downloads are run?I wouldn't swear by speedtest but it does give a relative snapshot. I would run 3-to-5 tests in a timeframe that you do most of your activity, then average the results accordingly. That will give you a truer representation of whats going on.

Alright, can someone settle an argument? I've been doing battle with a "computer-guru" friend since 7 was released for retail that claims any version of 7 can be re-installed, "as new, first time" on a different computer 120+ days after being activated, just like XP can.

I told him "not true", that 7 (and like Vista) activation key is basically tied to a "snapshot" of components "taken" when installed, and phoned into MS when initially activated to prevent multiple instances of a single key being used over and over, but 120+ days apart, as can be done with XP. Swapping video or network cards, mobo or HD, triggers "Configuration has changed and now requires re-activation, you have 3 days to reactivate.." (the points system) a hefty bar tab teeters on the brink over this..

A:can someone settle a Win7 reinstall argument?

Yep... bar tabs are very important.

My understanding is exactly as you have described, it's all tied to hardware and you must reactivate in 3 days if you change the big stuff (HD's are ok, unless you replace the memory at the same time). OEM editions are a little different and tied (super-glued) to the motherboard they were first installed on. I'll see if I can find something official from MS.

I need to know how to create a multi argument formula

Training on different licences:
L22=4, L22 =5
If customer has not purchased either licence, leave blank
=IF(L22=4, " "),IF(L22=5, " ")
If customer purchased either licence, minutes of training required are as follows:
90 minutes for on-site training, 60 minutes of remote training.

How do I fit all these arguments in one formula

Hi,

I would like to count the number of times certain multiple conditions are met. I have a data range which includes the following:

Column F = Does someone work or not so contains purely True or False
Column G = Includes their country, about 12 different locations

Then I have 6 columns containing information on their earnings

Column H = If their earnings are between 0-100 per day it shows their total (e.g. 65)
Column I = If their earnings are between 101-200 per day
Column J = Between 201-500
Column K = Between 501-1000
Column L = Between 1001-2000
Column M = Above 2001

Therefore I'd like a function that counts the number of entries where each of the following are given a result:

Count of number of entries where someone working, in England earning 0-100
Count of number of entries where someone working, in England earning 101-200
etc
etc

I've looked at various sumproduct examples, but can't find how to capture the data where the value falls into the range.

Any help would be most grateful.

Thanks

I am developing a calender to display HOTEL room occupancy (past,present) and combine with future "outlook" dates and 1/0 values from active registrations that go beyond the present date.

I am working with MS ACCESS 2007. My problem is ONE SPECIFIC QUERY AND IIF STATEMENT. I want to concatenate some text (using &) along with numbers converted to text (using the CSTr function). I am using iif function and I want to use the full text string as a variable argument to be executed in the iif function. The result of the &concatenate is a text field like [p1] or [p2] or [p#] with numbers 1-31.
But, I do not want the final result as the argument. I want the query and iif to use the string expression written into the argument as the variable argument that can be calculated based on OTHER numbers that change everyday in the daily run of the calender. The field in the statement [calc number] is a date conversion factor that changes everyday.

I want the iif statement to execute using the string as the variable argument.
I am writing only within the QUERY. I am not writing into any SQL module or code.

My field definition and iif statement is below (calc number changes everyday)

CalDate18: iif(18 greater date();"[p" & [calc number] & "]";0
Sorry I do not have greater-than key on this international keyboard !
When I use this in an update query, I get format conversion error. When I use the same definition in MAKE-TABLE query, it gives the fi... Read more

welcome to TSG sjdickey,
Although your question is written in detail its a little complex to just read and answer. If you could post a sample database that contains enough data to execute your query someone could take look. Be sure and dummy up the data if it contains real names or other proprietary info.

Looking at the offending statement I would expect something like P1 to be the result. I can't follow what you want to execute? What would be an example of the desired result

Also Access questions do better in the 'Business Applications' sections of this web site. Don't know why just an observation.

can you please help me, I made options pricing userform but, I have error : "argument not optional", this error is on xBSCall (blue one), As I understood I should show somewhere that this textbox is for final result, so it will not require date. where did I made mistake?

Thanks in advance, here is code and photo

Private Sub cbCompute_Click()
t = tbTime.Value
rf = tbInterest.Value
s = tbSTKPrice.Value
x = tbEXERPrice.Value
sig = tbIMPLIEDVOL.Value

' This function computes Black Scholes European Call Option Price

http://attachments.techguy.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=215717&stc=1&d=1350415702
If c <= s - x Then
MsgBox "C must be greater than S - X, please change inputs"
Exit Sub
End If
d1 = (Log(s / x) + (rf + sig ^ 2 / 2) * t) / (sig * t ^ 0.5)
d2 = d1 - sig * t ^ 0.5
nd1 = Application.NormSDist(d1)
nd2 = Application.NormSDist(d2)
xBSCall = s * nd1 - x * nd2 * 2.718 ^ (-rf * t)
tbCallPrice.Value = xBSCall

A:Solved: VBA Compile Error: Argument no Optional

The error implies that xBSCall is a function, but you are trying to assign a value to it as if it were a variable. That's just a guess based on the exception; there isn't nearly enough code to say this conclusively.

If I were to further guess, I would say the following lines
Code:

[SIZE="3"]xBSCall = s * nd1 - x * nd2 * 2.718 ^ (-rf * t)
tbCallPrice.Value = xBSCall[/SIZE]
should actually be written as a single line like
Code:

[SIZE="3"]tbCallPrice.Value = xBSCall(s * nd1 - x * nd2 * 2.718 ^ (-rf * t))[/SIZE]
In other words, I think you should make a copy of the original file and then edit the copy to delete the first line and replace the second line with my suggestion. But I want to make clear that I am purely guessing based on what you've provided, and I might be completely wrong. The screenshot indicates you have a complex application on your hands, so I'm pretty much shooting in the dark.

Hope that helps point you in the right direction at least.

chris.

Good Morning

With your help, I recently did a macro that let me do an e-mail out of Outlook. This is similar but lots more complicated as I have 2 sheets, one with the contact list and the information going into the e-mail is per active row and the other one with information that's the same for each mail.

Here's the code and it gives me the above error. It stumbles at GetBodyText in the .Body section. I'm trying to insert text from a .txt file into the body but it also needs to have the correct address (Dear ...) and my signature. So maybe I can't use this in combination?

As usual, it's pretty much cobbled together:

Function GetBoiler(ByVal sFile As String) As String
'Dick Kusleika
Dim fso As Object
Dim ts As Object
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set ts = fso.GetFile(sFile).OpenAsTextStream(1, -2)
GetBoiler = ts.readall
ts.Close
End Function

Function GetBodyText(ByVal sFile As String) As String
'Dick Kusleika
Dim fso As Object
Dim ts As Object
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set ts = fso.GetFile(sFile).OpenAsTextStream(1, -2)
GetBodyText = ts.readall
ts.Close
End Function

Sub ProductCorrection()
'Working in Office 2000-2010
Dim OutApp As Object
Dim OutMail As Object
Dim strbody As String
Dim SigString As String
Dim Signature As String

r = ActiveCell.Row
Path = [B5].Value

Set sh1 = Sheets("Contacts")
Set sh2 = Sheets("ProductCorrection")

Hello all,

First and foremost I will begin by stating I have gone through more tutorials than I care to remember thus far. With that being said here is my dilema, I hope to create a macro that will change the value of a cell, date, and then print 7 times. Here is my code using the VBA editor:

Sub day_change_print()
Dim i As Integer
Dim current_date As Integer

i = 1

current_date = range(a1).value
Do
current_date = current_date + 1
ActiveWorkbook.PrintOut
i = i + 1
range(a1) = current_date
Loop Until i = 7

End Sub
My problem is line:

current_date = range(a1).value

In debugging I have noticed range(a1) value is empty. Which makes sense, I guess, being I did not pass the value as an argument. So I tried:

Sub day_change_print(ByRef current_date as Integer)

which will not even run.

Next I thought I would give this a try:

current_date = today()
Do
= current_date + 1
ActiveWorkbook.PrintOut
i = i + 1
range(a1) = current_date

Loop Until i = 7

I am just spinning my wheels here so I thought I would break away...clear my mind... swallow my pride... and ask for some advice. So how does one assign a value to a variable form an existing cell's value? Or even better how does one acess the today() function from within a sub routine?

Any thoughts on these topics are greatly appreciated.

I am enjoying Windows 7, but because of some relatively simple disagreements I have with the interface, I've installed litestep as my shell, which I was very comfortable using in previous versions of Windows. Aero and the new and improved task bar just don't cut it for me. The biggest difference I need is hotkeys for starting applications, and from what I've seen Windows 7 doesn't have it. That's fine. Litestep does and that solves my problem.

However, I also prefer to use vim for my text editing, as it's far more powerful than notepad, and I don't need to muck around with the mouse to use it. I usually start it by right-clicking a text file and selecting the "edit with vim" shell extension that was enabled when I installed vim, and then it's all keyboard.

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a way to edit the access settings when starting vim this way. I want it to run with full administrative access every single time I run it. That's basically all I use it for, other than some idle notes and light coding.

Is there a command-line argument to grant full administrative access to an application, or perhaps a way to grant my user unprompted administrative access? It appears that my user is an administrator, but not really. This new model of security through confirmation is dangerous, but in the case of someone that knows how to use their computer, and how they want it to work, it's just plain annoying.

Can anyone address these concerns?

We have associated a particular piece of software with a file type so that when the user tries to Open a file of this type, a specific program is run with the argument list provided by the user.

Normally there will be no arguments:

User command: MyFile.ext
Executed command: Viewer.exe MyFile.ext

But the user can invoke the file with a printer name to indicate that they want to print the file rather than view it:

User command: MyFile.ext -p MyPrinter
Executed command: Viewer.exe -p MyPrinter MyFile.ext

The problem we have is when we have to pass printer names which contain spaces - it seems impossible to edit the registry so that the spaces are preserved but the printer is still recognised as a single argument. In other words:

User command: MyFile.ext -p "My Printer"
Desired command: Viewer.exe -p "My Printer" MyFile.ext

Depending on how we attack this, what we get is Viewer.exe returning any one of the following:
Unknown printer: My
Unknown printer: "My
Unknown file: Printer

NB
The reason that the user cannot execute the "Viewer.exe" application explicitly is that its location is indeterminate - the identity of the viewer application is stored elsewhere in the registry. As part of our installation procedure we generate a .reg file and update the client PC. I attach an example - note that this is a version which only supports printer names that do NOT contain spaces - the question is how it could be modified to do so. Nothing we have ... Read more

Hi,

I have Vista task scheduler setup to open an audio file in WMP 11 every day at a specific time. It's used as an alarm clock. The problem is that I use WMP for playing music and often change the volume level via the slider and then when my task runs, the volume level isnt high enough.

My question: is there an argument I can add inside the Action property of my alarm clock task, which will open wmp at max volume?

Thanks,
