X270 - 32GB RAM

Q: X270 - 32GB RAM

Hello,Recently Samsung announced 32GB DDR4 DIMMS. Will these be compatible with the X270? It seems the chipset can support them but I'd like some official word from Lenovo if possible.. And yes, before you ask... I can use 32GB it if I can get it..Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need some advice about the displays for the x270 ? is the HD display on the x270 an IPS? I didn?t find this info here https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/ThinkPad-X270/p/20HNCTO1WWENUS0/customize?...! My current x240 with has HD resolution (I can?t tell if it?s IPS or not) model 20ALCTO1WW ? I?m considering replacing it with the x270.I?ve heard good things about the FHD display but I?m concerned that with the FHD panel my font size will be too tiny for my 50+ year old eyes in its native resolution. I?ve heard that scaling the display results in suboptimal rendering/quality of text/fonts. Has anyone looked at both versions of the display? How do they compare? I?ll be using the system for mostly coding/writing and perhaps watching some videos. No Graphics or PS intensive work. Might hook it up to the tv from time to time (not that often) The display on the x240 isn?t the greatest (could be brighter for sure) but it works fine, so I could probably do fine with the same type for the x270 ? or is there something that I ought to consider? Thanks! PS: FWIW, I?m planning to get the i5-7300 model with 16 GB RAM and the 500 GB drive (that I plan to replace with a standard SSD 500 GB or 1TB drive ? hopefully not a problem).

I had a 400GB external drive that gave up the ghost a while back. I opened up the casing and put in inside my PC to recover the data from it which I did succesfully using a Live Cd version of Linux.

I have now decided to try and use the disk again but when I go into Disk Manangement the drive only shows up as 31.49GB instead of 400GB (or thereabouts). Even BIOS shows it as 33822MB.

Any ideas anyone?

I've managed to start pushing the limit of 16GB RAM on my y50-70, so obviously I'm interested in more. When I first got my laptop 16GB was listed as its max capacity for RAM, and Crucial still lists my Laptop as Max 16GB, however that seems to not truely be the case. I was poking around the Lenovo Solution Center and noticed that it listed my Laptop's Max supported memory as 32GB. Interest tickled, I dug deeper into my CPU specs and discovered that 32GB memory is listed in its specs. From what I can gather, 16GB RAM modules didn't really hit the consumer market until around late-summer 2015. This would put it after my Laptop was made so it's possible my Laptop simply wasn't offcially certified for the 16GB modules since they didn't yet exist. Scanning reviews of technically compatible 16GB modules shows people having success using them in other Lenovo laptops from a similar time period as mine. Going by specs of the modules, they match my 8GB modules in pretty much everything except their capacity. What's the likelyhood that my Laptop actually supports the 16GB SODIMM modules?

Hi all,Now the only decision I have left to make before ordering is whether to spend an additional $100 to upgrade from 16GB (1x16) to 32GB (4x8) RAM now (after warranty or never). The only clear short-term advantage that I see to upgrading is running in dual-channel mode or Virtual machines, though my understanding is that dual-channel mode makes more of a difference if you don't have a dedicated GPU; however the P50 does. There might, of course, be other advantages that I do not see right now.Since I plan on using this machine for 6-8+ years, I might come to a point where I really wished that I had gotten it now.Advice, please? Thank you!

I can't seem to find a power input rating for the X270 I currently have on order. Of course, I know you can use a 65w with one, but it won't improve charge times if the amp input is limited. The store pages don't list the AC adapters output ratings by adapter and the C.S. chat reply was, "I don't have that information available." I know the output on the 45w is [email protected] simply because I already have one for my X240. Anyone with a 65w willing to post the output for me would be greatly appreciated. More appreciated would be anyone that happens to know what the X270's input ratings are so I can determine if charge times could be cut with a 65w. TIA

I   replaced the keyboard of my X270, not realising how much more difficult this process was than on an X230. I got everything working, and it powered up fine.  But my X270 wont power on. It recognises the AC adapter. Pushing the emergency powerup pinhole next to the battery doesn't work either.  I suspect that the power button is not working. I opened up the laptop to investigate, and found that a connector around the area of the power button is damaged (pictured).  The wire seems to have detached from the smaller connector.  My questions:Is this connector related to the power button?  Can I find a replacement, or repair with soldering?  Where can I find a map of the motherboard so I can confirm what this part is myself

I just received my brand new Dell XPS 15 wich is supposed to have a 1TB disk along with a 32GB SSD disk,
Since the booting of the machine is terrible slow I looked for the 32SSD disk, but Windows filemanager does not show it.
Is it hidden or just somehow not active (or even present?).
Do I need to activate it?
Thanks!

A:XPS 15 9550 1TB but no 32GB SSD?

It won't show under Windows - go into system setup and you should see it.
While the cache will speed up the hard drive, it's no match for a native SSD - and if the system came with McAfee, ditching that alone will speed up the boot.

I have a 32gb PNY usb flash drive. I formatted it, now it says there's 64gb and the disk is write protected. I have tried everything possible with it. Any suggestions?

A:32GB PNY USB device

Some USB sticks have a switch that allows you to lock the drive. If you can find the switch, you can unlock it and remove the write protection from your drive.

You should check the Permissions setting: Open the Windows Explorer > right-click on the drive > click Properties > go to the Security Tab > and click on Edit > Select your username and check if you have Write Permissions. If you don’t, check the box for “Full” for full permissions.

Format the drive from a DOS Prompt. Check to be sure you know what drive letter is being assigned to the stick. Then go to Start > type: cmd > right click on cmd.exe > Run as Administrator > type "format space drive-letter colon" ( format x: ) and press ENTER. (Where X is the drive letter assigned to the stick).

See if any of those things work.

G-Skill is a very good brand...I use them. Just make sure that the RAM your getting is on your mobo QVL. The DDR3 is way cheaper than the DDR2....for what ever reason. Other than that you should be good to go.

Just look around for the feed back and reviews of the RAM...generally a good indicator if good or bad.

A:Dell XPS 15 1TB and 32GB SSD

If you don?t see Intel Rapid Start in your Programs and Features list, you don?t have it. If you do, just uninstall it because you won?t be using it anymore anyway. The other thing to check for is Intel Smart Response. To disable that, open the Intel Rapid Storage application and make sure the Acceleration Feature is disabled. Then you should be set to clone. Macrium Reflect Free is a popular tool for that purpose.

Hello,
I just purchased the XPS 15 and it's on its way. I'd like to increase the SSD storage but I have a few questions and have seen conflicting information online. Also keep in mind I'm really not good with computers and this will be my first time trying to do something like this, so sorry if I come across a bit stupid.
1. I've read the 32GB acts as a cache for the 1TB hard drive, which is where the OS is. When I install the larger SSD (I'd like to upgrade to 128 or 250GB SSD), will I be able to see the SSD in my drives when I re-install windows (also: will I need to re-install windows?). Because from what I've read when you get this config out of the box, you can only access the HDD in your list of drives.

2. Again, I'm totally new to this. But I see that in the internal shots of the computer there's a cage which houses the hard drive, and then a small m.2 slot where the SSD is. But I've also read the SSD is inside of the cage where the hard drive is? In that case, what is the m.2 slot for? Or have I got these all mixed up?

3. Does it matter if the SSD is SATA or PCIe? I know Dell uses PCIe in the SSD in the other XPS configurations, but will a SATA SSD work? Specifically this one from Samsung?

4. Also to be clear, I don't want to remove the hard drive, I just want to upgrade the SSD. Is this possible?

Any advice would be welcome, especially from someone at Dell or those who have tried to upgrade their SSD. Anyone els... Read more

I just rebuilt my computer (i7-3770k). When I built my last computer (i7-920), I thought 12GB (3x4GB) of triple channel was "crazy talk." 4GB was the norm and 64 bit was just starting to become normal. Turns out, it was a good amount over the lifespan of the computer.

Besides gaming, browsing, and other usual tasks, I also edit video in Premiere CS6, do some 3d in Cinema 4d, and use programs like After Effects which do ram previews.

My new computer has 16GB (2x8GB) and the price was reasonable $50. I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and stick two more in there (since I can get the same brand, model/series, etc).

I'm not trying to light a cigar with a $50 like a semi-baller, but it seems like now would be a good time to do it since it's a new build and I can see having this computer for ~3-4 years or so. My i7-920 was awesome and had another year or so left in it, but now it's my girlfriend's YouTube computer, lol.

A:XPS 15 9550 32GB SSD

It is not a storage drive - it is a cache drive for the hard drive.  It will not show up under Windows -- but will in system setup (F2 at powerup).
While it will (after a period of time) speed up the operation of the hard drive relative to a system that has only the spinning drive, don't expect barnstorming performance -- the hard drive itself will be the system's bottleneck.  If you're looking for good performance, replace the hard drive and the cache drive with a native solid state drive (you'll need 256G or more to run Windows acceptably in the long term -- anything less and you'll run into space issues).

Hi endeitz,
Welcome to the community
The system model optiplex 790 is designed to support only 4 GB memory module in a single slot .
In these two optiplex models each slot supports a maximum DIMM Capacity of 4GB and a total of 16GB in optiplex 790 & 990. This has been tried practically as well. The USFF version of these desktop models which is "Ultra Small Form Factor" supports only 8GB.

A:Is 32GB RAM possible in an HP Envy?

i tried the memory mentioned above. It installs properly but when i try to boot i never get any indication the system is working. All that happens is that the caps lock LED blinks rythmically. I believe this is a system hardware error indication. The same behavior happens with the F.03 and F.18 BIOS versions. The same behavior ocurrs with 1 (16GB) and 2 (32GB) memory sticks installed. i looked at Intelligent Memory products. They don't have anything that sounds compatible with this system. They claim their products will work in any 5th generation CPU family system . i do not believe this. imo, the proper wording is that the memory may work, not that it will work.   In any case the 1015dx uses a 3rd generation CPU.

I'm using Windows 7
I tried all things on multiple computers

So I bought a 32gb PNY flash drive and well after the warranty expired took it on campus to put a program called SAS on it so that I could transfer it to my home PC. The file was huge and completed. When I plugged the USB into my home PC it worked as a USB, said it was 22gb full, but when I opened the file it nothing was there. I tried everything to fix this, first I hit tools and folder options then tried viewing every file type. That revealed a folder called 'Found' but in the folder was a bunch of jargon I did not understand. So then I decided ok whatever I don't care about anything on the drive I will format it! Formatting it took like 5 seconds which seemed extremely fast considering it took about an hour to get the files onto the drive. So suspiciously I tried to put files onto the drive. After adding the files the names appeared in smears and messed up words or something, they were not normal letters and not another language. So I decided to format it again and this was when the BIG issues started.. Now every time I plug in my USB to any computer it does not come up as a USB. When I try to open it I get the message "Please insert a disk into New Drive (E: )". If I go into computer management/disk management, the usb appears to be showing up as a disk.. it is not in the top list it is in the larger list on the bottom named: Disk 1 Removable (E: ) No Media.

I don't know what... Read more

You may try to format your flash drive using a Low Level Format utility tool.

Hi,
I have couple problems with my new Dell XPS 15. I will get straight to the points:
*) I have updates all drivers and windows system
*) I have tested the laptop with all of your test tools - and they say it is perfect (passed all tests)
1) I had three blue screens in first week. Another three a week later. Plus once laptop completly hanged.
2) What ever I do laptop is lagging. Every about 15-120seconds it freezes for 3-8seconds.
3) Battery has 90% Health - but it is a new laptop?
Could you help me here. I cannot work with those freezes and I think that battery should be 100% health on a new laptop.
Thanks

Hi I am hoping others have experienced the same issue.  I have a brand new x270 running windows 7 64bit. I have installed Sophos encryption which uses bitlocker. When I tried to encrypt the SSD a message popped up and said TPM was not available. I rebooted the system and checked the TPM version in the BIOS it was set to 2.0 so changed to 1.2, logged back into windows and the encryption completed successfully.  However the problem i now have is every time i boot up i am asked to to provide the retrieval codes to get back into Windows. I believe the issue is with the TPM chip holding the first attempt in its memory. How do I clear it though?? From within bitlocker management in control panel I can clear tpm but it asks for a password. I have never supplied one !!!!.  If i reboot the laptop and again check the settings in the BIOS there is an option to Clear TPM with the option "Enter" but when selected it appears not to do anything. Has anyone had this issue or know how to get around it please. At the monent I have had to suspend bitlocker until resolved. Thanks in advance

Hi, I have checked by BELARC there are two memory slots in my X270. Currently I have 1 memory card (1 x 8GB) installed, can I use the second slot to increase  the RAM with another 8GB memory card ? I´ve heard that couldn´t do that, instead I should buy a 16GB card to replace the current one. Anybody can I help me ?

Any owners of the X270 with the NVME drives, how fast are they, and do you know who's the OEM? (Samsung, Intel, etc).
