I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have this keyboard: http://www.sunbeamtech.com/PRODUCT11.html

Sometimes I will be doing something and some keys will become unresponsive. As in I press the key but it does not function. Most commonly it’s the “g” and “h” key that stops working. However I am fairly sure it is not the keyboard because sometimes I can unplug the keyboard from my tower and replug it in and the keys will start working immediately. Sometimes not. I tried downloading and installing the latest driver off their site and it just overrides the current one. I did it many times so the driver is there. Any ideas?

The link you provide is not pointing to a keyboard. You could try cleaning the keyboard with some presured air.

»Problem Description

I've tried everything from resetting CMOS to clicking all the keys and putting the keyboard in before starting the PC but nothing works. The keyboard light (NUM lock light) is on but the keys won't work, all I can see is the Asrock logo and the "Press" options but I cannot proceed because the keys don't work please help. I've tried with both PS/2 and USB keyboard and mouse. I've resseated the RAM many times too. Everything is functional but the keys on the keyboards which makes me not able to enter any kind of bios. I am stuck at this splash screen with the ASRock logo and the many options it offers that I can't access.

Having a really strange keyboard/typing issue.  When pressing the same key consecutively, there's a delay in it recognizing consecutive keypresses.  But only on the same key.  For instance, I can type "abcdefgh" and it works just fine.  "xyxyxyxy" works fine too.  But if I try to type "aaaaaaaa", I get maybe 2 or 3 a's out of it.  It's only when pressing the same key consecutively.  Happens on all keys, even the backspace key, or the arrow keys.  If I simply click the Windows key, then hit the down arrow multiple times, it only takes the 1st one and maybe every 2nd or 3rd thereafter.  It's like there's a delay hanging it up only when pressing the same key consecutively.  Pressing any different key works fine, unless I press that key consecutive times (not holding down for repeat, but actual consecutive presses). This is only on the laptop keyboard.  If I plug in and use an external USB keyboard, it works just fine.  It also doesn't matter what program I'm typing into.  Does the thing anywhere - Notepad, Firefox, even the test typing box in the Control Panel keyboard settings. I've checked may times to make sure Filter Keys are unchecked.  I've even reset the laptop to reload Windows (but saving data) and it didn't fix the problem.  I've also uninstalled the keyboard driver and let Windows 10 reinstall the driver again.  No luck. Any ideas?

On my Dell Latitude D610 Laptop, the delete key does not work at all.
The down arrow key only works when the right arrow key is already pressed (I have to press and hold the right arrow key and then press the down arrow key simultaneously to scroll down with my keyboard)..
I find it very strange, not to mention extremely annoying.
Anyone know why that might be happening?

Hi! I am new to the boards. I seem to have a rather odd problem. I have an HP zv6203 Notebook computer, about one month old. Everything has been zipping along- no problems. Until now. When I start to use arrow keys [>] and [<] to navigate in text documents like WORD or a web email program, it starts spitting out seemingly random numbers. And I just started to notice somethiing with the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN buttons beginning to do this as well.

I contacted HP support, and was told to delete the driver and reboot, but the problem still persists. I've also rolled back the computer using SYSTEM RESTORE twice, to no avail. Now they say to re-install the OS. If not that, then it's a hardware problem and to send it back.

Of course, I got it at Sams Club, which has a ridiculously long return policy (six months!), but I actually do like this computer. It's just this is annoying as hell, and I am sick of putting up with it.
Thanks for anyone able to help and/or even knows what would cause this. You would think a keyboard would be one of the MOST reliable components to a computer.....

And no, nothing spilled inside the system.

I have a HP DV2550SE someone brought in that was beeping randomly and continously.
After a few minutes I figured out it was acting as if keys were stuck down and that was causing the continuous beeping.
If I go into the BIOS of the screen, I can see the time flying though the numbers as if the F5/F6 key was being held down.
This is the second keyboard I have put on this laptop...any ideas of what could be causing this? (Really hoping it isnt a motherboard issue)

My keyboard for my LAPTOP only has some letters that will work. z,x,c,b, and n are the only keys that will work. h and j are scrambled, so they both type the letter b. My FN key doesn't work because it acts like a like the shift button, and the every other key that I didn't mention has no function to them. Also I'd like to add that sometimes when I restart my computer, the keyboard does not respond at all, and instead keeps typing the letter q when I try to enter my password. BTW, the enter key only works sometimes. As of now I am using a usb Lenovo keyboard. Malware Bytes, Hijackthis, and Spybot haven't picked up anything and the situation is getting worse because my computer is also starting to slow down.

Please help me, thank you.

Edit: Whenever I try to type something in my browser, it doesn't type letter. If I type F then it will drop down the file menu, or if I type H it will drop down the help menu. I am currently using an iPad right now because my mouse cannot use the left click. Instead the left click is used like a right click.

My keyboard has been acting funny for a while now.

For Example:

When I Press the spacebar it makes a slash and then a space :"\ "
the "x key reloads the current page
the "m" key does this "6m"
the "v" key does "5v"
the "5" key over the letter keys does "5v"
the "5" key in the numpad does "53" (the 3 in the numpad does the same thing)

There's a few more but you can see how it could be annoying.

As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!

I have a Dell M1330 Laptop that has served me quite well for several years. I just replaced the keyboard the other day and everything is working fine, except that the new keyboard has a slightly different layout than the old keyboard did. For example, with the new keyboard all the F1, F2, F3, etc.. keys have function secondaries on them like multimedia, brightness, antennae toggle, and so on. My old keyboard didnt have most of these and so when I attempt to use them on the new keyboard they simply do not work. In fact when I use function keys as if I still had my old keyboard installed the functions work, which means it is the software interpretation of the keys that I need to change. Does anybody know how I can fix this so that the keys of the new keyboard and functions match what the keys actually say?

Another thing to add is that some of the new function keys on the new laptop such as antennae toggle were not on my last keyboard at all because they are softkeys on the case of my computer, and I am not sure a function like that would be able to be added to the keyboard mapping at all, but I'm not sure.

Also, I would prefer to not install third party software to accomplish this, even if it means I need to delve into the registry manually. Can anybody help??

I had a problem with my laptop which is certain key on my keyboard is not functioning. The weird is, it happened without a reason. because after I shutdown doing my work when I turn it on again, I discovered my "s", "d", "g", "h", "\", "m", " left shift", "caps lock" and "~" key did not work at all. I try taking the key off, cleaning underneath, but nothing seems to be working. After that I try to use usb keyboard and it seems the key can be entered. So I thought my hardware is the problem. than I replace into the new one, but still having the same problem. I already waste my money buying new keyboard. Does any one happen to know what sort of problem this is and how I would go about fixing it? Is it related to the registry. My laptop is Acer aspire 4740G, ram 4GB, processor i3 2.4GHz. I hope someone can help me to solve this problem.

Hi matth_weiss ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
We can isolate the keyboard issue using other keyboards (external USB ) and onscreen keyboard to check if same would happen .
Booting on a rescue image and using the same keyboard can isolate software versus hardware issue .
Same goes if you try typing on the BIOS ( security tab for creating password would allow you to test but do not save it and just restart) .
Update us how it goes.

I have a Dell 7737 laptop and from time to time it develops a firmware glitch where random keys stop working for both BIOS Setup and Operating Systems. After such thing happens neither shutdown (Full shutdown / Fast Boot disabled) nor restart get the keyboard back to a normal state. At this point the only workarround is to disconnect the AC power cord and then either drain the battery or physically remove it.
This laptop's battery cover is not designed for daily removal and it is starting to get loose because of this BIOS bug.
I am running BIOS version A14 but this bug was present since I purchased the laptop with BIOS version A07. Sometimes I cannot even type my password because the random keys that stop working match those it uses.
Please Dell could you provide a BIOS hotfix for this annoying issue?

Hi all. I have already posted this once here. The topic had quite a few views and not a single reply. I'm giving this another try, as the problem persists and is not getting any better.

The keyboard on my Aurora m9700 is having some strange issues. I cannot figure if it is software or hardware related, either. At random intervals, the keyboard will cease function. But when I go into standby, then come out of standby the problem seems to be magically fixed! In fact, the problem just happened right after I finished typing the last sentence. I checked event manager, nothing changed. I had to go into standby and come out of it...

So please, is there anyone on here that can help me out? I have reformatted the computer since this started happening and nothing has changed, so I do not know what could possibly be causing this!

What I first thought would be a simple keyboard problem apparently isn't. When I type the upper case D using the right shift button, I only can get a lower case "d". When using the left shift button, I get nothing but a cursor flash and no letter at all. If I hit the D key again (2nd time) holding down the left shift button, I do finally get the upper case D and as many as I want thereafter.

What I have done so far: Thinking this was a bad keyboard, I purchased a brand new keyboard.......same problem. I then borrowed the keyboard off my wife's computer which is working well.........same problem on my computer. So not likely a keyboard problem. I then uninstalled the keyboard driver and re-installed it THREE TIMES........still same problem. This is an HP Media Center computer with XP Pro so I downloaded the very latest keyboard driver for this keyboard and installed.........still same problem. Of course I rebooted after each install.

I then went to the PC Doctor diagnostic tools and did the keyboard test which puts a keyboard on the screen and as you press each key, it blanks out the key pressed on the screen. All keys work find except for when I go to upper case with either shift button and type the letter D. Instead of just the D going blank on the screen, the C key and the CTRL key go blank also at the very same time. So for some reason my D key is being translated somewhere into a D, C with the CTRL button signal. How can that be?

Sounds like some kind of Malware (such as Spyware or A Virus). Did you recently install something? ... if you did, then it could be a driver issue.

If you did not install anything recently, then I would reboot into safe mode and run a virus scan and a spyware scan (make sure to update your definitions).

So what's happening is occasionally, while I'm typing, it repeats letters, as if the keyboard temporarily locks up. (Sometimes, but it's rare because I usually type continuously, it just stops me from pressing keys for a bit.) It's like "Hello my naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..."
And what's weird is it only happens after I pressed any of the lock keys before (disabling doesn't fix it.)
I'm using a keyboard connected directly to my PC, with up to date drivers.

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. This has happened a few times since I upgraded to Windows 10 at the end of October

I will suddenly find that the @ key and the " key have swapped places. To get an ampersand I have to press Shift+quote (next to Enter key) and to get a double quote I have to press Shift+2.

If I logoff and logon the ampersand and double quote will be back where they belong..

I suspect I must occasionally hit a 'magic key sequence' that re-configures the keyboard somehow, but I've no idea what it would be, or what to look for and where to look for evidence of that. The KB is US English.

A:Weird keyboard problem - keys getting swapped

Do you have the language icon showing at the bottom right in the taskbar? You should be able to select this to quickly change from one keyboard type to another, the behaviour you are seeing is the difference between a US and a UK keyboard layout. Also have a look at your region and language settings, it maybe that you have more than one region/language installed - just remove the one you don't want.

One possible key combination which is doing this is Windows Key + space.

It sometimes holds buttons instead of just pressing them (types FFFFFFFFF instead of just F)
It sometimes becomes unresponsive for a minute
It generally became slower when typing (latency)
The capslock and numpad lock are almost non-responsive and crazy (barely work, sometimes both locks go on/off together when pressing only capslock)
For the record, this keyboard worked perfectly fine last time.. It also works totally fine when i used it on my other laptop.. And i don't have Sticky keys/filter keys enabled btw.
Things i tried;
Changing ports.
Reinstalling the drivers.
Rebooting the PC.
Tried windows troubleshouting.

And none of these worked...

Sony VAIO VGN-NR330e laptop.

I cleaned the keyboard right before installing Windows 7 on it. Now, the keyboard is acting very strange. I don't know if cleaning it messed up something sensitive and now the hardware itself is shot, or if it's a driver, or a flat out compatibility issue with Windows 7.

I tend to believe it is not the hardware itself, as when I pop off the problem keys and put them back on, they respond normally. But only to a light touch, not if you hold it depressed.

Then again, even when I get the entire keyboard responding and typing what it should, it is completely messed up all over again upon restart. What on earth???

Hello All I have Lenovo G50 80 laptop; it?s a full 15.6 inch laptop with DVD drive, full keyboard, touch pad. Last year i started having problem with laptop, as touchpad stopped working the arrow cursor got stuck on screen, and will only work again if i press any key on keyboard. It will only work for few seconds and minutes then again stuck. Also the arrow or delete key stayed in loop, whenever i open anything to type, the cursor in text field kept moving to left or keep deleting the text. The service center guy told me that it is due to Keyboard and touchpad getting short due to moisture or something, they changed the keyboard. Now after one year again i am facing same problem. Same thing happening again and again. It?s very irritating. It seems there is some hardware or design fault in the way Lenovo has designed their keyboard and touchpad. I live in Mumbai, so may be due to monsoon there is moisture in air and it may be affecting this design. But again i have never seen this issue in any other laptop brands of competitor. Can anyone please help me how can i fix this on my own, as laptop is not under warranty and i don?t want to keep changing laptop every year. May be someone with hardware repair knowledge can help me here. Can I short or cut or sholder any cables, any circuit, I don?t know just help me guys to fix this. Anyone from Lenovo listening please have a look it a big problem. Thanks

I recently reinstalled windows 7 home premium 64bit on my computer and everything was going fine, but then my computer blue-screened. I restarted the computer and now my keyboard and mouse don't work on the login screen but they do work on the boot menu. I've tried putting it into safe mode and replugging in the keyboard and mouse but it doesn't work. The reason I'm putting this into drivers is because i think its a problem with the drivers of the keyboard and mouse.

Alright so here it goes, I spilled ranch on my keyboard(a friend did).
This is a laptop keyboard, the keys L N and K didnt work before. So i assume it was a bad keyboard, i order a online keyboard and now this one the keys ZX 1 dont work. So is this a keyboard hardware issue? Did i just get another bad one ? Should i get another keyboard and retry or can something else cause keys to not work

A:Keyboard buttons dont work

Well, not sure I can help other than to say that like you I would have assumed that the damage was confined entirely to the KB and replacing it should have gone smoothly (Not like you spilled a coke or something that would have leaked al over internally).

Probably the think to do is return the new one as defective and ask for another... If that also doesn't work then it would almost have to be the computer itself...

Did the contamination get anywhere near the KB cable connector?

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck
