ThinkCentre M72e Bios Update Help Needed!

Q: ThinkCentre M72e Bios Update Help Needed!

I am having issues with my ThinkCentere M72e-it only recognizes my i5 Processor as having two cores, both in Bios and in Windows 10. The Bios is very out of date, but it will not update. If I try to do it through the operating system method, I get an error "Bios version of ROM doesn't match the current file". If I try the USB flash drive method (for which there are no instructions) Bios reconizes the flas card int he start-up configuration, but when it tries to boot tot he USB with he update files on it, I get a message, no operating system found. I installed teh Lenovo System udater, and while it says it will update Bios, it hasn't.How do I get the Thnkcentre to update Bios, or at least recognize the i% processor as a quad core?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello there, I recently bought a used Lenovo M72e Form Factor Desktop CPU.Its Machine Type is 3664A13 and Serial number is PB6FAF2. It is running F1KT25AUS 08/23/2013 Bios version. I want to update the bios to latest version. I saw the lenovo support site and found many versions for it. Now my understanding is that that latest version which starts with F1K should be the one compatible with my PC. I found this file on the pagehttps://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/f1jy71usa.exe Now it does start with the correct F1KT and this is the Version F1KT71A. My problem is that my installed BIOS shows AUS at the end while this version Shows USA at the end. I have tried many things changing Country on the top right corner of the page but every time only this file shows up. Here is my question. Can I install the USA version of the file on my computer? Will it be safe?  If not, where can I find the correct BIOS for my PC. Thank you very much

I dont believe the built in card can support 3 displays. Could anyone suggest an inexpensive video card that supports 3 displays for this tower. Its just for busines so no need for a high end card. I encountered this problem and was lucky to find the solution on this forum. To help others, I am making this new post with more detailed info.

Problem: you wish to update the BIOS (for whatever reason). You either do not have a CD-Rom (disc drive) in your machine, or it is not working.

Solution: locate an external disc drive, or better: install (even if only temporary) a CD/DVD drive: there are lots available for free from anyone who deals with computers.

Reasoning: the "flash using Windows" method is risky. I used it, because the drive that came with a "new"(used) computer was inop., and I didn't want to stop, find one and swap it out. The BIOS flash routine failed before completion and  therefore did not initiate a re-boot. The end result was that the computer would start, but hang after the BIOS loaded and went to boot the OS. No method of starting would work. {Described in this post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/M92p-no-longer-booting-after-BIOS-update/td-... }

Rant: the text file detailing the "Flash with Windows" utility should include a specific warning that flashing within an OS is inherently _RISKY_! It should strongly recommend using the "make a CD-rom disc" method. Furthermore, the instructions for recovery from the Hardware Maintenance Manual SHOULD BE INC... Read more

Problem solved toay,You need to open your machine. Find the cmos clear jumpers.Move the little cup from positions 1-2 to 2-3. Unplug Hard Disk. Close the machine. Insert a portable USB DVD to a usb port (have a copy of the new bios on the cd) and turn on your machine. It will boot from USB DVD drive and it will load the new bios. Machine will shut down after the new bios update. Open agin the machine, plug the Hard Disk and put back the jumpers to 1-2 position. Unplug USB DVD and it will boot from Hard Disk. That's all. IN OTHER WORDS: Bios update can be done if first you change the jumpers on motherboard.

A:Advanced Help Needed with BIOS Update

I'm a software geek so I'm a bit out of depth with advanced hardware Dx, but a HW buddy of mine suggesting pulling the HD to verify the board....before doing so I swapped the RAM sticks (moved the original from bottom slot to top and new from top to bottom) and compressed air'd the entire section.

removed HD, blew out bay, and powered on. Displayed Compaq splash, auto refreshed to display splash again, auto refresh to solid black with rapid cursor at top left corner. Can hear and feel the fans spinning, but otherwise nothing. Does this confirm BIOS problem (as I suspected) or is it something else? (would call the buddy, but he's at the movies with his cell off :X)
edit: mep O_O f10 much? In BIOS with HD physically removed....factory is v F.14a, upgrade is v F.24a, right now it's showing v F.15 - now I really am lost.

I tried to do this but when I downloaded it, and tried to run it, I get the following msg "the BIOS version you are installing is older than your system's current BIOS. Do you want to continue".

Hi guys,

I'm debating if I should update my BIOS, I've not done it before but would feel confident in doing so.

I was checking the m/b site the other day for any updated drivers and had a look at the BIOS update section. If there weren't any aplicable to me then I wouldn't have even bothered thinking about it but there is. I have the Devil's Canyon i5 4690K. I'm not having any problems with the system. I have a new Lenovo ThinkCentre E73 SFF i5-4460S, 16GB RAM, 240GB Solid State Drive, Win7 Pro 64 Desktop. Anytime the ambient temperature is 77F/25C or above, my fan cycles every few minutes. As it is spring time here, temps are only going to get hotter and the fan is annoying. My old Lenovo PC which did not have a solid state sat in the same place as the new one was silent except when I first started it up.

I don't think it's a dirty fan, heat sink or intake as the PC just over a month out of the box. Some research yielded a bios update; yet a lot of people say unless you absolutely have to, don't touch the bios; messing it up will brick the PC.

I've also have some Bluetooth issues which can be found here. Also, unless I have a USB keyboard plugged in, I stall for about 30 seconds at the bios screen. It's a hunch but I think all this is connected to maybe needing an update. I checked my bios date; 04/13/12. Lenovo's website reveals an update 12/29/15 and can be found here.

A:Fan kicks on a lot. Possible Bios update needed?

As you say it is only just over a month since you bought it
I have a new Lenovo ThinkCentre E73 SFF i5-4460SClick to expand...

My advice is to return it.
Such problems have existed on this family of Lenovo`s for some years and not by any means has the BIOS flash solved the problem for all.
Also the CPU was only launched in February 2014
Although as you say the latest BIOS/UEFI is
FCKT77A
?30?/?12?/?2015

The problem was first addressed in BIOS updates before that and I cannot understand how the computer can be supplied just a month ago with a firmware version that according to you is 2012 when the CPU was as I said only launched 2014.
I suggest you put that question to the supplier.
I am not suggesting that the latest firmware flash should have been made before the computer was sold, but clearly it was manufactured sometime after Feb 2014 so IMHO the firmware version should have been the latest then available, as Lenovo knew about the problem with the fan and usb function.

This box came with Win7 home premium.  I did an update to Win10, which took "forever", which shortly corrupted and rendered itself and the Win7 backup unaccessible.  In trying to recover, I installed Linux Mint.I've since found that Win10 needs a bios update, and found such at this website and d/l'ed to another computer, and the Asus website now no longer has anything at all for the M3900G.I am going now to try to update the BIOS, but the process found uses Rufus so it's a double process to make a Rufus DOS disk plus adding the BIOS update to that, and then bring it onto this Acer box. I've done my due diligence on this process so far, but this is way differenc from the "good old days", so I'd appreciate any input.

The support center doesn't allow an option to update the K330 OS to Win10 (which I've had installed over a year now) and I would like to update the BIOS.  Currently installed I have: BIOS Version/Date - LENOVO DKKT20AUS, 3/16/2011The only BIOS update the Lenovo Support center has is for the K330 is for Win 7, and I'm not rolling back my OS just to do that.  Is there any source for a more current update to the BIOS?  Also, I read that there was a recall on the K330 motherboards.  CPU-Z reports the MB model is "To be filled by O.E.M." msinfo32 reports: "System SKU To be filled by O.E.M.".   Anyone have any info on what kind of MB they used for the replacements?

A:K330 BIOS Update Needed - Running Windows 10

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

In viewing the downloads for the K330 you already have a newer BIOS version installed than what is available in the Lenovo Download Library.  The version Lenovo has available is DKJY15AUS from 12-22-2010.  Unfortunately there is nothing newer that is available for download.

In the event there HAD been a newer version, Lenovo offers two formats for your model.  There is a bootable CD version so there is no need to upgrade the BIOS from with-in the operating system so Windows 10 isn't a factor.

Personally, any BIOS versions that Lenovo had or has available pre-date the creation of Windows 10 so there really isn't nothing in any of the BIOS updates to offer the latest Windows operating system.  Since every BIOS upgrade has a very slight risk of failing, I would just stick to the current version if it is working without any problems and supports the hardware.

As far as a recall, I haven't heard of any and you are the first to mention it.  You might want to recheck with your source.  If there had a recall years ago before my time, I would assume the dead line for any free replacement has passed.

Posting my question here because I think that this board is one of the best on the internet.
I have a pcchips m757lt motherboard with sis 630 chipset. This motherboard has both the socket 370 and slot 1 for the processors/cpu. According to the manual I can use a maximum of p3 1.13ghz and celeron 1.1ghz(fcpga coppermine). Right now I am using a celeron 433mhz in the socket.
As I want to upgrade my processor I went to check with pcchips website and found a bios update there. This update says that it has support for tualatin celeron . This bios update also has support for sis630te chipset which has tualatin support.
My question is if I upgrade my bios will I need an adapter(powerleap, evergreen etc) to use a celeron tualatin 1.4 ghz ? OR can I just buy the cpu and simply put it in the socket 370 ?

Hello, I've updated my tech specs on my comp so clicking the computer icon next to my name will give you all the stats for my pc. Now, on to the main point: I'm looking to upgrade my current AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ processor to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ processor and I've been told that to upgrade processors you need to update your BIOS before installing the new CPU.

If that is the case, (A) where would I go to get any updates for a M2N68-LA motherboard and (B) can anyone tell me if that'll make it work for sure?

Also I'd would appreciate any tips for changing out my processor as this will be my first time doing so. Thank you for any help

You don't need a BIOS update. When it is stated that a CPU is supported in the motherboard specifications document it means that BIOS support is already present.

Hello forum,

I recently upgraded my HP a6019h desktop from Vista 32bit to Windows 7 32bit. I've since had issues with both stuttering in my sound and a noticeable lag in my mouse movements. I read through some other forums and found that a possible reason is because my mobo's (ECS 945GCT-HM) bios is not up-to-date. I went to HP's website and found the bios update but I believe it will only run if it's in Vista. I tried installing it several times and it states that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements error 9998. I have looked everywhere for a compatible update and have not found one. If anyone can tell me how to install this update, knows of where to find a Windows 7 compatible update, or even maybe knows how to resolve my stuttering sound and lagging mouse issue please let me know. Thanks.

P.S. - I have the latest Realtek drivers and DirectX drivers.

A:945GCT-HM bios update needed compatible with Windows 7 32bit

DirectX is Microsoft - DX11 would have been installed with Windows 7.

I had a working Vostro 3500 laptop and was doing maintenance to bring it up to date.
I downloaded and installed the recommended BIOS update for this laptop...

Dell Vostro 3500 System BIOS
3500A12.EXE | Windows/DOS (3 MB) BIOS Release date 7/21/2014 Last Updated 7/21/2014 Recommended

The BIOS update failed and left the computer with no working BIOS. F2 is dead. It will not boot.
I am pretty sure that there is a backup or primitive BIOS still in there, as when I start the machine with no battery and just AC power using the End key it continuously tries to read data from a 2GB flash drive. I assume that it would like to reload the BIOS from a file.

I know how to get the ROM contents from the above file using the /writeromfile parameter.

The big question is, what kind of file does the 3500 want to read, and what is the file name that it is looking for? Does the flash drive need to be bootable? Is this an AMI or Phoenix BIOS?

Can someone please help?

Thanks,
Terry

Two options at this point:
Have a shop un-solder the BIOS chip, flash it externally and re-solder it, or
Replace the mainboard.

I updated the BIOS from 1.2.0 to 1.4.0 for my New Inspiron 13 7000 (7378) in Windows 10 (64bit) using the executable available from Dell's website for this particular model:
downloads.dell.com/.../inspiron-13-7378-2-in-1-laptop.html

This BIOS update (1.4.0) is quite recent and was released on January 6th, 2017. I followed all safety procedures (e.g. using AC power), and I did not see any error messages during the update. But when the computer finally rebooted the second time (it seemed to have first rebooted once to install the update), I got this error message:
Boot Guard verified FailedSystem will shutdownPress any key
The system wasn't even able to load the BIOS, indicating a critical error happened during the BIOS update. After spending some time searching for a solution to my bricked system (and panicking), I was able to recover the BIOS using this procedure on Dell's website for Convertible / Detachable with the external USB key method:
www.dell.com/.../en

Now, everything works fine using the BIOS version 1.4.0. Not sure what went wrong with updating the BIOS from Windows 10.

A:ThinkCentre M57 6072-BMU linux driver for the network card needed....

canucks, Here is the link to the generic linux driver, since you didn't specify the kind of linux distribution you were using. You can get it here: http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-006120.htm I don't recommend installing it though, because you will have to recompile your kernel with it. Unless you're a linux guru and know what you're doing of course.I'm quite surprised by the fact that it didn't get automatically installed, since it's an Intel PRO/1000 network card (according to the specs), which is a well known and supported card. I've said it before and I'll say it again: if the only reason you're installing linux is "for fun" then why not install it in an emulation software? (Virtual PC is a free, excellent solution)It will make your life a whole lot easier and allow you to keep your existing productivity level undisturbed Elhay  Message Edited by elhaya on 10-18-2008 03:02 AM

Hi there, I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkcentre E73 SFF, which had Windows 10 installed in it. I decided that I wanted to installed Windows 7 instead of using Windows 10. I decided to go into the BIOS to change the boot priority so that my Windows 7 installation drive had priority over the pre-existing boot drive. In the process, I also recall disabling "Fast Boot", as the PC kept skipping the post screen every time I booted up. It continued to do that even when I was in Windows 10, but I've now got Windows 7 installed, but I cannot find any way to access the BIOS of the motherboard. Can anybody advise on how I'd go about getting into the motherboard BIOS? TLDR - I've installed Windows 7 in place of Windows 10, but I cannot get into the BIOS as the computer is forever skipping the post screen on bootup. Does anybody know about how I'd be able to get into the motherboard BIOS? Thanks in advance!P.S. I wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!

Dear fellow community members, I have a huge problem with M83 ThinkCentre. We've bought 80 PCs from a retailer in Germany. All very good condition. These PCs are 2014 release. The problem is their BIOS. It was upgradet to 2016 version and the problem we experience is that whenever we put a GPU in any of the 2 included PCIE ports - it starts, but fails to boot. Same thing on all of them. Do you guys have an idea how to downgrade the BIOS?

What is the model number of M83? Tower, SFF, Tiny? What is your current BIOS level? What graphics card are you trying to use?A link to a website showing graphics card would help (Amazon, Alibaba, etc).

Hi....... I am hoping that someone may be able to pint me in the right direction.   I have an old IBM Thinkcentre..... I am not sure which exact model it is.  Used to use it in my home office, but moved it out to the entertainment center ages ago and basically use it as a "jukebox" that I have stored all my music into and feed my audio system.  I run nothing else, and it worked fine doing this for years.  Anyway, with a recent update in iTunes, I now am experiencing issues playing back music, as I never have before.   I populated the main board with 4GB of RAM, but when I check in system information...... although it states 4GB installed, it only chows 2.25GB in "total physical memory". I have tried everything I could to increase performance of the resources I have..... disabled what was unnecessary and turned off everything that does not absolutely need to run in the background, but have only improved things a bit.  In doing some research, it was suggested that a  BIOS update "may" allow me to go beyond the RAM limitations of my system.  I figured I would try this out before bagging it and just investing in a new computer. Anyway, I have attached a snapshot of my system configuration.  Can anyone help me find a later version of BIOS?  I have tried searching for it myself, but everything points me back to the Lenovo site, were I cannot find anything.  When I plug in my serial number, it does not find a... You have a ThinkCentre M50-8189. 4GB max memory.https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-thinkcentre-m50-8189-p4-2-4-ghz-monitor-none-series/specs/ Due to the way memory was allocated at that time, the top 1GB of memory is RESERVED.Your BIOS is probably up to date. Other users may have more information to offer about the top 1GB of memory.
