Wireless not working, ethernet is working

Q: Wireless not working, ethernet is working

My wireless is not working. I have tried looking at comments on line but nothing seems to work!
If I use the CMD code I get this for the ether net:
ipv4: 94.205.214.13
subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 94.205.214.1

I have a sitecom router if that helps at all? It says to go to 192.168.0.1 which I have done but sdtill confused! Thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Wireless not working, ethernet is working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Wireless not working, ethernet is working

All the above looks good. Using 192.168.0.1 as a URL in your browser, you should get a request for the user/password for that router. Once you login, you can go to the WiFi portion, enable it, set the SSID and encryption you desire.

Where do you get stuck?

Hi,

I have a linksys model wrt54gl v1.1 and I am using Windows Vista 32bit Home Edition. I have a pc connected to the router directly through an ethernet plus a laptop, 2 iphones and a blackberry that get wireless internet from it. 2 days ago wireless stopped working. The internet on the pc connected to the router by ethernet is still working and the power, WLAN, ethernet, and internet lights are all lit green. The internet and ethernet lights flash when data is being transferred but the the WLAN light is not flashing. I have restored the router to factory default but it is still not working. The phones and laptop are not detecting any wireless network present. Hope you can help.

The only other thing to try is to unplug the router for a few hours. You could also try another factory reset.

I have an Acer Aspire 7552G laptop running Windows 7 x64 that is having problems with connecting to the internet.

I started to notice the wireless and LAN connections becoming very weak, web pages would load slower, data would take longer to download, etc. This lasted for a couple weeks. As of now, I cannot get any signal, neither wireless nor LAN.

I normally use Google Chrome but have tried to connect through multiple browsers.

I have tried updating the wireless/ethernet drivers, and I have also tried uninstalling them all together and reinstalling them. Both to no avail. I have no idea how to resolve this issue and am hoping the tech pros here can help me out!

Wireless LAN and LAN vendors are both Broadcom and the drivers can be found here: Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire 7552G

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

So im currently using Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. My laptop is an Asus f3sv-x1, an older model dating back aug 2007, but it works with windows 7 until recently... While Asus doesnt officially support this particular model with windows 7 drivers, i was able to easily grab the drivers off microsoft. Everything worked nice and smooth until a recent windows update that i installed. Basically every time i restart or shutdown my pc, my ethernet, Usb, and wireless adapter drivers will not load during startup or start. To be more clear, i went into device manager only to find out that there are exclamation marks next to the network adapters and USB controllers. Each device has the cannot start code (10) http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/1236/81543872.jpg
The funny thing is that if i unistall the drivers or disable/enable them, they would automatically download from microsoft and it would work. Like i said before, this would only occur when i restart or shutdown my system. It's such a hassle to constantly unistall/enable the drivers everytime i restart or turn on the pc. I dont want to reformat because i just prefer not to.. Any advice out there?

When I try and access the internet through any of the main browsers (I.e. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari) they tell me along the lines of 'unable to access the network' and 'this page can't be displayed' after taking a while attempting to load. I also cannot access it through any of my Windows 8 apps. I know it's not an issue with the home broadband itself and is something to do with my laptop as it is running fine both wirelessly and through using an Ethernet cable on all other devices. I would really appreciate some help with trying to fix this asap as I have spent a lot of time researching this issue and trying most things to resolve it without success, I also need to use the internet for loads of coursework over the summer hols and cannot afford to be taking it to a pricey IT technician. Take a look at the file
\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hoststhere MUST be at least a line reading 127.0.0.1 LOCALHOST
but the question is there anything other than comments in it?
If so, leave the comments and the localhost line and delete everything else.

If you modify the hosts file, then you also need to

ipconfig /flushdns
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"

Hello,

Yesterday, my internet through wireless stopped working all of a sudden. It was working good till I closed my pc and went out for a few hours. When I returned and tried to access, it simply does not connect. I get an error saying "Windows was unable to connect to abcd (router name)". I tried to plug it into the router through ethernet and it works perfectly.

I have tried to uninstall the wireless adapter and the lan adapter as well. I have tried it in safe mode. I have tried to delete the network also but now that left me with inputting the password everytime I want to connect.

I am living in a student accomodation with 6 more people and all of them's is working good. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate Edition on Dell Studio 1555. The router is a Netgear one for the Virgin Media Superhub.

Thanks a lot

Having this option allows for multi-use of internet without having to waiting for the other PC to become free. At first I thought the drivers may have been outdated.

This is what I have done so far as I have run out of ideas as to how to resolve this issue.

1) Went to HP site and downloaded drivers for both Broadcom 802.11 b/g adapter and HP Wireless Assistant to my flash drive. Then downloaded those drivers to my laptop.

2) Went to microsoft because error message states that drivers could not be downloaded Code-31 for the adapter. This site based on the code states that Microsoft is aware of this issue, and this would not stop the network adapter and should operate properly. This is not the case. At present I can only connect to my wireless by hardwire cat-5 cable. This laptop has option for both, but now the led stays the color "amber" whe... Read more

Hello,

My name is Vladan and I have had a problem occur yesterday. My internet stopped working.
I immediately tried my phone's wireless connection and saw that it was working fine, so I tried laptop wireless and it too was working. When I plug in my network cable it stops working.
My ethernet internet connection status shows that Ipv4 and Ipv6 have "no internet accsess". It's not just my laptop's wired internet that stopped working, it's the whole network I have in my apartment consisting of two more computers who also lost their wired-ethernet internet accsess. I suspect something is wrong with my router since it relays my internet but wireless works fine so I'm stumped. When I plug in my cable it shows limited connectivity.

I have tried ipconfig /release - /renew, I have tried netsh winsock reset and netsh int ip reset log.txt
I have tried (netsh winsock reset catalog), also I tried (netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log) and it said the following ::::::
Resetting Interface, OK!
Resetting Neighbor, OK!
Resetting Path, OK!
Resetting , failed.
Accsess is denied.

Resetting, OK!
Restart the computer to complete this action.

I don't know what is this "failed and accsess is denied" but it might be the problem.

Hi
My Ethernet connection to my modem has ceased to function on my PC using windows XP home.
The cable is fine since I have been able to connect to the internet with my netbook using it.
Device manager says my network adapter is working properly.
The LAN does not appear in Network connections and no icon appears in the status bar with or without the cable plugged in.
The cable port light is green when the cable is connected.
I have tried updating the driver and have tried to find other fixes through a forum search but nothing has been able to remedy the situation.
AVG virus scans and Maulwarebites scans are all negative.

I am using a USB wireless device to connect to the internet currently but despite the computer says it has a 120 Mbps connection but basic web pages take over 10 seconds to load with many timing out. Other computers using the same modem don't experience the same lag. I don't know if this is related to my Lan issue but I thought I should mention it.

I'm hoping someone can help me.

This morning when I woke up my computer worked properly. I then went to work, and when I turned it on I got the "blue screen of death." (I apologize for not posting the exact wording, but I did not think I would need it). I restarted the computer per the instructions, and it booted up. The computer, however, failed to connect to the wireless network. I noticed that the network icon was not in the taskbar. I then went to device manager and my integrated wireless adapter (Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG) had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I clicked on properties and under the 'general' tab the device status read:

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device

I then unistalled the controller and attempted to reinstall via the 'add hardware' program. I then received the message:

A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your device may not function properly

I then, believing it was a driver issue, downloaded the latest drivers from the intel website for my device on another computer. I uninstalled the controller again, and tried to install with the new drivers via a thumb drive. I received the same error message and the controller had the yellow triangle. A:Integrated Wireless Controller/PC Card Adapter/Ethernet port stopped working

Sounds like your motherboard is rapidly dying.

If the ethernet controller (or adapter) does not show under Network Adapters and is not in Other or Unknown devices with a warning or error message check in the BIOS (Setup) to see if it somehow got disabled. If it is already enabled, or doesn't show there, see my first paragraph.

When the ethernet controller is defective it can prevent other integrated and/or PCMCIA networking cards from working. When this happens sometimes a USB adapter will work.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

A:Wireless router suddenly stopped working (Lights still working though)

what devices do you have connected the router anything else wireless
make and model of the pc

does the PC work if you connect to the router by a cable ?
if not
try connecting directly to the modem and see if that works OK

we need to see some details, which will mean you need to copy to a working PC
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Direct link to the program is here http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifi_download_redirect.php
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Hi,

I hope this will be an easy one for you guys on the forum: I was playing FIFA12 on my laptop with a XBOX360 Wireless Controller (connected with the official microsoft pc reciever) when the trigger buttons suddenly stopped working. I went to the windows controller calibration tool and the little z-axis(the triggers) graph didnt move when i pressed them. When I tried to recalibrate them the tool detected the zaxis movement as i pressed the buttons, but as soon as the calibration proccess was over it wasnt detecting zaxis movement anymore. I then plugged it into another pc and the gamepad worked fine. I tried restoring calibration to default, uninstalling drivers and even running logitech wingman clear calibration utility to try and clear calibration settings, but no luck.

Any ideas?

I have sort of an odd problem. I have a desktop computer that is connect to the internet wirelessly. Everything works fine there. I also have an xbox360 connected to the desktop via an Ethernet cable. I use this connection primarily to stream movies from my computer to the xbox. Today in the middle of a movie the movie stopped playing and gave me an error saying xbox isn't connected to the computer any more.
I checked the physical connection and everything was fine. I looked at my desktop (running windows xp) and noticed my LAN connection wasn't properly running. It said I have limited or no connectivity. So I tried repairing it, renewing it, disabling and re-enabling it. Nothing worked. In fact I get this error: "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

I also noticed I have a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address, if that helps at all:
EDIT: Forgot to mention I also reinstalled the driver for the LAN card.

I have a motorola modem (SB5102) and a D-Link Router (WBR-1310). I have a pc which is connected to the modem and the router with wires. From this afternoon there is no internet connection on my pc. The icon on the bottom right says unindentified network, Access: Local Only. But my laptop, which is connected wirelessly, is working fine. it has good internet connection and everything. All my other wireless devices are also working fine. But only my pc (which is connected with cables to the modem and router), is not getting any internet. Can anyone please help me with this weird problem. Thanks!

Both the pc and laptop have Windows Vista.

Hi people,

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
My wireless connection has been working on and off for a while, but now it just refuses
to work.
The other computers in the wireless network are working just fine, so it must be definitely something in my laptop.

I can detect the network just fine, with good signal.
It says:

Media State: Enabled
IPv4 Connectivity: No internet access
IPv6 Connectivity: No internet access

Also, in the activity there are Bytes sent and received, but I cannot connect to any webpage either with Chrome of Firefox

I'm using McAfee Security Center. I tried turning off the firewall, but it still doesn't work.

Please let me know what I can try.
Thanks!

Recent McAfee updates are causing havoc with wireless...remove update or just uninstall it totally and use a better Scanner like Micro$oft Security Essentials

Let's not try to diagnose from someone else's issue, how about telling us about your environment?

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Make and exact model and hardware version of any other network equipment, like a repeater, a booster, hi-gain antenna, etc.
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

Have you tried to do a system restore to before the problem occurred?
If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
For wireless connection issues, have you removed all the stored wireless network profiles and then searched for the network?
For wireless laptops, have you made SURE the wireless switch is on?
For wired connection issues, have you booted in Saf... Read more

My internet explorer when just plugged in with the phone line through the cable and such stopped working.. I get the error message Internet Explorer can not display the page. And this is for all Websites I try to go to. But when I plug in my wireless card from my lap top the internet works just fine. Is this a problem with the computer or with the internet itself? I am using IE 7 with Windows Vista Businiess 32 BitAlso there are 2 drivers that have the yellow exlamation mark next to them when I look up the system properties. They are microsoft 6to4 adapter andUSB-Serial Controller Driver Software

A:internet not working on lan but working with wireless card?

I would suggest connecting with your wireless card and going to windows update and seeing if you have all the updates for your operating system. Look in the Optional updates for hardware drivers that may fix the yellow exclamation marks, as they may be the problem. If the yellow marks don't go away, google that problem "how to get rid of yellow exclamation marks in Device manager".
You may want to disconnect your wireless card, plug in your ethernet cable, and then power cycle your modem, router, and computer. Turn them all off, then power each of them up, waiting a minute between each one. Start with your modem, then your router, then your computer. Post your results.

Hello,

I am using an hp G7000 lap top on Vista.
I am unable to connect to the internet via wireless but am able to connect via ether net.

I am able to connect to the internet via wireless on my phone (HTC sense) and another laptop (dell inspiron 15R running windows 7).

I receive the following error message from google chrome:

This webpage is not available
The server at www.google.co.uk can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Check your DNS settings. Contact your network administrator if you're not sure what this means.
Try disabling network prediction by following these steps: Go to the wrench menu > Settings > Show advanced settings... and deselect "Predict network actions to improve page load performance." If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend selecting this option again for improved performance.

I just purchased this USB wireless router:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24P0PF0492

I installed the software from the supplied disc that came with it and plugged in the usb router... Computer recognized it and gives me a message that it is connected. Incidentally I am connecting to my iphone as that is what I use for my wireless hotspot. So even though the PC says its connected in the dialog window for network activity, I try to check email or launch IE or Google Chrome and nothing is finding the internet.!!?? Why would that be? The computer said it found the wireless network. So how do I get it connected to the internet? Any suggestions here?

Thanks so much in advance.

I'm having a very similar problem. I can connect wirelessly using my laptop to the internet through my netgear router, but not using my desktop. The desktop is plugged in directly to the router through the ethernet port, but the router light indicating a wired connection isn't lighting up. I've tried installing the router software on the desktop (running winXP), but the installation won't complete as it can't detect the router.

Device manager says that the adaptor is working properly, but the icon in systray says that a network cable is unplugged. I've tried 4 different cables, so I don't think they're to fault.

When I open the command prompt on my desktop and type ipconfig /all:

Ethernet adaptor local area connection:

media state: ...... media disconnected
description:...... SiS900 pci fast ethernet adaptor
physical address:... 00-14-85-6F-AE-05

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.s. When I plug my laptop in to the router using the ethernet cable, the router's light comes on, showing that it is connected.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

I recently formatted my laptop and installed windows 7. In installing drivers, specifically network drivers, I installed the wrong drivers, realized deleted them and then installed the correct drivers, but now the ethernet port does not work. In device manager there is no little yellow alerts, I've scanned for hardware but nothing. Is there a way I can check the health of my ethernet port?

Please Help.

My motherboard is a msi n1996. Running windows xp professional 2002 service pack 2. I am hardwired for the internet thru comcast but my computer does not recognize my ethernet or PCI card. I've downloaded drivers for it (realtek 8101L driver) but it now tells me to turn off computer and install PCI card.?? I think my roommate went into the Bios and changed something because before he did i was able to connect thru the direct line. Please help me figure out why it isn't working. Any one ???
I am using wireless internet thru the neighbor temporarily. Thanks.

If windows is finding it, then the BIOS wouldn't have impacted it. I would buy a new network card, and try it. They are under 40 bucks. I recommend buying Intel.

My ethernet is not working but my wifi on the same computer is working(using wifi to post this). I attached an image of my resource monitor it shows me trying to download. The weird part is sometimes it goes up to my normal speed(32mb/s) for like 4 seconds and then it drops to not working at all and when I try to load a website I have to refresh a few times and pray.

I tried connecting the wire to my laptop (same wire and wall port) and it works fine. I ran malwarebytes and found one threat but the problem was not solved. I ran it again a few more time and it says I don't have anything else.

I have no idea what's (kinda computer noob) going on so any help would help.
Thanks

You didn't provide any descriptions of your laptop and desktop and which Windows version they're running.

A wired ethernet connection is working okay in your laptop, but not in your desktop?

My ethernet connection seems to have suddenly crapped out which has left me using the USB port. But that means I cannot establish my home wireless network.

My ISP troubleshooting help line could not tell me anything beyond it being an ethernet problem.

Any help troubleshooting and re-establishing is much appreciated.

A:Ethernet not working...

"... ethernet connection seems to have suddenly crapped out" implies
1. bad ethernet adapter,
2. bad ethernet cable, or
3. bad something at the other end of the cable.

Can you try another cable?

Can you try something different at the other end of the cable (e.g., if it was a router, try a different LAN port)?

Can you try the same setup but with a different computer?

Hello, well this i my first problem post on here. I recently had to dump everything on my computer to get rid of Surfsidekick adware that ruined it. Well I started from scratch with reinstalling windows XP and everything. I put in the restore disk that came with my Dell Dimension 2400 cpu and got what ever programs i thought were nessesary. Could have missed some. I have no idea whats needed. After all that I couldnt connect to the internet with my Ethernet Cable. My wife plugged in the USB to our cable modem and thank god that worked cause i would not be typing this to you right now. Under my Device Manager under other devices there are yellow question marks with small exclamation points on; Ethernet Controller, PCI Modem, and USB Digital Still Camera. Im thinking i need a Ethernet Driver but i dont know which one from the Dell site to download or if that is even the problem. Someone please help.

I just had a technician come to my apartment today and install a wired connection to the router. However, my computer is still using Wi-fi, and it doesn't recognize a wired connection. My ethernet cable connects to an RJ45 port, where there is a cable running underneath the carpet to the router. I suspect that the ethernet cable running from my computer to the port might be faulty, but want to make sure there's nothing else wrong with it before I replace it.

Hello, i have a desktop computer which used to get internet from a secondary router we had. It is a Jensen Scandinavia. One day when i logged onto my computer i noticed i had no internet, and it hasnt returned since that. It shows a yellow exclamition point by the internet icon, and says no internet Access. My secondary router Works fine With everything else than my computer, both wifi and Ethernet. Of all Electronics we have in the house, its only my computer who doesnt work. I have a cable that goes from my main router and to the secondary router, if i stretch that into my room it will allow me to get internet Access, so the problem isnt my main router. My Ethernet port on the computer is blinking green some times aswell, but i get no firm Connection. I also do not have a default Gateway.

Additional info: when my internet stopped working, i looked into my Device manager and found pseudo tunneling Interface With a yellow exclamition mark. I uninstalled it in hope that it would be reinstalled and making my computer work aagain, but it didnt get reinstalled ;(

Ty for the help, much appreciated.

A:Ethernet not working!

The Pseudo Tunneling Interface is for IPv6, which is not used currently for Internet Access. When you right click this yellow flag and Uninstall it , it should not come back.
If you have no other yellow flags in the Device Manager, then to test your internet connection, plug this computer directly into the Main Router rather then the secondary one.
Then follow these instructions Pre-posting Requirements - for both Wired and Wireless Connectivity Issues and paste your ipconfig log in your next post.

Hi there!

I have no experience at all with computers/connection issues, so apologies for my poor use of terminology.

I live in the Bay Area and I have xfinity/Comcast.

Around a week ago, I stopped being able to connect to Ethernet. After troubleshooting, I found that the error was "One or more network protocols are missing" or "Windows Sockets Empty".

I have already tried the following things:
1. Reset my computer / made sure all the cords were plugged in
2. Did a "netsh" in command prompt to reset my IP
3. Gave "Full Control" to everyone in folder 26 in my Registry Editor
4. Did a "netsh" to reset my winsocks
5. Disabled NETBIOS on both wifi/ethernet

I also couldn't find any new drivers...

Each time I tried one of these fixes, I would have ethernet for ~5 minutes after I restarted my computer. Afterwards, it would instantly disconnect me and connect me back to WiFi.
After I tried disabling WiFi, my ethernet connection would still dc, but I would simply have to troubleshoot it, and would work again after restarting my adapter.

Is there any way for me to fix problem for good? My WiFi cuts off really randomly from time to time and that's really frustrating..

If there's anything I missed please let me know and I'll try to provide it!

Thank you so much!

A:Ethernet Not Working

The link that shows up on your post - "I also couldn't find any new drivers..." - If you posted that intentionally, do not use the 'driver updater' program it links to. It's malware. My question would be who is the oem of your computer, and which LAN card make/model?

Mike711, welcome to TSF.

The port sounds damaged, but have you tried a different ethernet cable? Sometimes the pins can become damaged, or the wiring can become loose.
