Yoga 2 Pro - fresh install of Windows 10 - what should we install from Lenovo's download page?

Q: Yoga 2 Pro - fresh install of Windows 10 - what should we install from Lenovo's download page?

I've been extremely frustrated with both the screen flickering and crashing during sleep issues. I figured before I buy a laptop from another company that I would at least try a reformat. I was expecting devices to not be fully installed after the reformat but Device Manager does not show any issues. PC is also running fine besides the fact that the trackpad doesn't right click properly and the resolution is off which probably can be addressed by installing the proper drivers. What else should I install, though?

Preferred Solution: Yoga 2 Pro - fresh install of Windows 10 - what should we install from Lenovo's download page?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Yoga 2 Pro - fresh install of Windows 10 - what should we install from Lenovo's download page?

Download/install Lenovo System Interface Foundation for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit)...IdeaPad.... That should install, among other things, Lenovo Vantage (ex-Companion.) Use its System Update function to find drivers/updates, download and install them on your system. You don't have to install everything but if you have "screen flickering and crashing during sleep issues" then I'd make sure to at least get the latest chipset, display, video, power management, etc. drivers.

P.S. If you suspect that particular driver(s) may be causing issues, then install them one at a time to identify which one(s) are bad.

I purchased and downloaded Windows 7 from microsoft into my computer. Do I have to have installation DVD inorder to do fresh installation? if not, how would I do a fresh installation of windows 7 from the download?

I currently have Vista home basic and downloaded windows 7 professional

Thanks in advance

A:Fresh install to Windows 7 from download

Hi, if you have downloaded it as a .iso file then you need to burn the .iso using some DVD burning software. Usually there's an option to BURN IMAGE TO DISK, then you browse to the ISO and burn it.

DON'T simply burn the file to a disk as that won't work, you MUST burn as an image for it to work properly.

Once burned, boot from the disk and install windows, making sure you've backed everything up as Windows will do a clean install.

Hello I recently purchased the Yoga 910 4K, that I now want to use for work but it needs to be fully wiped so that a fresh windows enterprise install can be setup. I am having a struggle to get it to boot from a USB and then accept the image. I gave it to the IT department who also cannot get it to work. How can this be done ? Thanks

Hi Everyone, just joined.
I have just had to do a fresh install of Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit.
A question i have is: are there any methods to find where these updates are being downloaded to, so that i may keep them on a disc for the next time i need to do a fresh install, or do i have to check in installed updates and manually find and download them?

A:Fresh Install - Updates download (Windows 7 )

I'm pretty sure that there is no way to separately save the updates so I guess you will have to go the normal download route.

As an alternative to a fresh install next time why don't you make an image backup when you have the system the way you like it and restore that instead. You will then have most of your updates and installed programs in place.

Hi, I have been having problems with my wifi connection since one of Windows 10's updates and want to do a fresh install of windows, to start over from scratch. That said, I have a SSD and caddy available, which i'll use to swap with my optical drive. I have seen the following article on backing up my laptop's recovery partition:https://support.microsoft.com/en-ie/help/4026852/windows-create-a-recovery-drive That said, I have a few doubts:1) Regarding activation, will anything change? Since I'll be creating the recovery from my computer's partition, I don't think I'll have any problems with that. Just wanted to be certain.2) Does this recovery partition relies on already having the system on the HDD? Or, if I remove the HDD with the recovery partition and install a blank one, will the USB recovery drive that I created using those steps still install Windows correctly?3) This recovery partition is affected by windows update? I mean, does windows update "embed" its updates in the recovery partition or will I get a "fresh from the box" install? Thanks!

Laptop: Lenovo Z70
OS: Windows 8.1 x64
Issue: After wiping the drives and installing a fresh OEM copy of Windows 8.1 via a DVD i purchased, I can no longer see my SSD in my partition manager. The SSD was working prior to the clean installation.

Clean Install Steps:
I had to change the drive mode from UEFI to Legacy in the bios and allow it to boot in legacy mode as default. This was done to allow booting from the DVD. Also I had to turn fast boot off.
How do I obtain access to the SSD partition again?

A:SSD Missing After Fresh Windows 8.1 Install Lenovo Z70

First change again to UEFI mode in bios and try to run windows.
If that fails, boot from DVD in UEFI mode and reinstall windows.

In the console enter the following commands to change the MTU:

Type into command window "netsh interface ipv4 show interfaces" without the quotes. Take note of the id number of the wireless interface.

Then to change to mtu 1460 use the following command.

I have a Lenovo Edge 15 on Windows 8.1

The new laptop came with preinstalled software and drivers. However I prefer to do a fresh Windows 8.1 install without the Lenvo drivers/software. After doing fresh install, I prefer to go to Lenvo's support site and download and install the drivers manually.

How can I do a fresh install? The OneKey feature will for sure will install the drivers/software from the hidden partition which I don't want. I know Windows 8 has the reset feature, however, I am unsure if it will also install the drivers/software from Lenovo.

Also, I want to ensure that the reset feature won't damage/delete the hidden OneKey partiation.

Is it possible to do a fresh install without doing it from USB?

A:Fresh Windows 8 Install without Lenovo Drivers/Software

the onekey (recovery) partition contains the factory out of the box image.. And yes doing a Reset with onekey will rewrite all the factory software, drivers and bloatware..

If you wish to keep the factory setup for future use - Create a Recovery Drive - first..

Then you can do a clean install of windows 8.1 from USB or DVD and install the MFG's Drivers..

You can download 8.1 here > Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

Hello folks,

Just like the title says, I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 7. I had lost my recovery discs, so I downloaded the official .iso image from, http://www.mydigitallife.info/windows-7-64-bit-x64-direct-download-links/ I downloaded Ultimate because my university gives it's students Windows 7 Ultimate license keys. So I figured why not! So after I create a Boot USB, I install the OS. Everything goes smoothly, until I open up C:\Windows\system32\ and I see that "Rundll32" still shows a page icon.

I checked all my desktops and they all have the same image for Rundll32!

At this point I am panicking because I don't know if all my computers are infected by malware or if something else is at fault.

My Rundll32 file is sitting at 44.5 KB.

At this moment, I am installing BitDefender, TDSSKiller, Malwarebytes, and completing Windows Updates(Obviously, I am not typing this on the infected machine). I will update this post if the programs find anything.

Edit: I think I posted this in the wrong thread. I will post this in "Windows 7" instead.

Edit: I think this is the right sub-forum.

Hello Lenovo forum, I have a problem. NO WIFI (even after install drivers/reboot) Last week I bought this laptop: https://www.expert.nl/lenovo-ideapad-310-15isk-80sm017smhAll good, only thing I didn't like was Windows 10 OS.So I bought a serial for Windows 8.1, downloaded the .ISO on Microsoft website, installed it on USB-drive and installed a fresh Windows 8.1. So all CLEAN.Like always first thing is to start with install Drivers of course. So I downloaded Everest and put it on USB-stick. (Easy program to show which hardware)I already checked on (this computer>manage>device manager) and saw there same; Realtek pci family controller for Network.(Now I wanted to check it before posting this but since I just deleted all drivers 10 min. ago, since didn't work, I no see any visible.) But I'm pretty sure it was Realtek PCI Family Controller. So I downloaded the drivers from the Realtek website, and installed it. Rebooted, but still same problem.Anyway I saw also that Motherboard says: "Unknown" on Everest so I think I need drivers for that also but don't know which ones? Same for some USB drivers but I think this is included with Motherboard. The problem is that I just can't choose any Wifi.In Manager the only option is: Flight mode: On/Off (=Off)Bluetooth: On/Off (=Off) I don't see Wifi.I'm trying for hours + yesterday so hope find solution here, otherwise I will install Windows 7 and try that. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I recently upgraded the Storage with a WD green 120 GB M.2 SSD. Post upgradation, i installed Windows 7 into the new Drive. After dealing with several error messages and trying all workarounds the system was able to boot and became a working machine again.  I accidentally formatted the eMMC i.e. previously my C: drive and faced a lot of difficulty in making it work. However happy that finally the system is back to its normal working condition. The only problem i am facing now is, i am not able to see the 32GB eMMC card in Disk Management or in MY Computer. Though the same is visible in Advanced Troubleshooting during pre-boot (Repair your system Option) . Though the volume is visible and is empty there, its not visible inside windows explorer after windows starts. Though it doesnt affect the system's performance now, i would like to use the 32GB memory. I tried looking for the driver but not didnt find any. I am currently using Win 7 Enterprise. My next attempt would be to upgrade to Windows 10 and see if that resolves the issue.  Please Help !

Hello, I have decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 Professional (x64) on my Lenovo X1 Yoga (20FQ). I'm currently pulling my hair out trying to install Windows 10 in UEFI mode, I want to do this so I can use the full functionality of the TPM chip and bitlocker. HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.

A:monitor drivers unable to install on fresh windows 2000 install

Are you really referring to the monitor drivers or the Dispay Adapter drivers? The symptoms you describe sound like the latter issue.

Monitor drivers are no big deal to install, and even if you don't, Windows should use compatible plug and play drivers. Still it's a good idea to install them -- but you get them from the Monitor vendor site. You get the Display Adapter drivers from the Display Adaptor vendor's site.

What Display Adapter model do you have? And are they properly installed?

To install a Monitor driver, you download and unzip the .inf file from the Vendor. Then you select "update driver" and browse to the location of the file you unzipped. Once installed your Monitor should be recognized by model number.

So I purchased a windows 8 DVD, thinking I could make a bootable image and install it by usb key (macbook air does not have a dvd drive). Help

A:fresh install on macbook air from dvd (or download?)

Search on "make iso from dvd." You will find a number of possibilities, programs, etc. Also, why not buy an external DVD for the MacBook Air. I always do; they are inexpensive and I don't like having to fiddle around when I need to use a DVD. Do you have another computer (Mac or Win) with a DVD drive? If so, then you may be able share its DVD drive with your MacBook Air. Search on "sharing dvd drive with macbook air," and you will find what you need to know. Here is a link to get you started. You know you'll have to install Win8 via Boot Camp on a Mac, right? Also, Mac/Boot Camp support for Win8 is not yet a done deal. Some have done the installation, but there can be problems depending on a variety of things.

Hello there, I've just built a new computer and am having trouble installing Windows updates on my fresh install.

When I go to Windows Update, I get the following message:

Install new Windows Update software

To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update. Your automatic updating settings will not change

To install the update, Windows update will automatically close and re-open.

When I click 'Install now', the window disappears and I am then confronted with the following message:

Windows could not search for new updates

An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.

Error(s) found:
Code 800F081F Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

Does anyone know how I can get updates to work? Is there some way that I can manually download and install this update for Windows Update?

Thank you.

A:Unable to install updates on fresh Windows 7 SP1 install

I'm guessing that your installation media already contained SP1, is that correct? Since this is a clean install my first thought is something happened during the installation process to damage or corrupt some system files. I'd try the Microsoft troubleshooter first.

Troubleshoot problems with installing updates - WindowsUpdate_dt000

If that doesn't work I'd try running the System Update Readiness Tool.

What is the System Update Readiness Tool?

If still no joy, and only because this is a very recent clean install, I'd just reinstall Windows 7 again. If the problem persists I'd start looking into the possibility of a bad installation disk, hardware issues, etc. Please post back if any of this helps or not.

I'm unable to get windows to install properly properly and have spent the around 20 hours in total trying to troubleshoot it the last 2 days.

It started with a failed overclock attempt, and reseting uefi to default settings.
When I booted up again the start menu didn't work. I attempted to arc /scannow among some other fixes to no avail and therefore opted to reset windows 10.
This resulted in an error message (unable to configure windows 10 for this hardware or something along that line.

I Then I made a usb with windows media creation tool on another computer, and attempted a clean format and fresh install of the drive, with no success. This time it left me stuck in a reboot loop at the oobe phase (use express settings.. blue screen, please wait. ) with no error.

After 5-10 minutes the Rest of the interface loaded, the start menu however did not work, nor did windows update or the search bar.
I've tried various fixes, but nothing seems to help, or introduces another issue.

I'm running out of ideas, and cant seem to track down the root issue. Could a component be broken?

I have gone through several attempts to reinstall, but every method results in one issue or the other.

Hello there!
Okay I have a problem that I can't seem to solve.
I bought a new computer that did not come with a operating system.
So I set up windows 7 64bit. All that went smoothly.
Then when it came to driver installation the problems came.
The computer has no CD drive, so I cant install it from the cds I got with it.
Tried with wired internet connection, nothing. Missing driver
Tried putting the driver for the Ethernet thingy on an usb. Computer did not find the USB drive. Tried all ports on the machine.
Sooo, I basically need to get internet into the computer so I can setup the rest of the drivers.
Tried a wireless WiFi USB stick, but again, the computer does not find the USB's.
BUT it did find my wireless keyboard and mouse assembly? Weird.
Cannot seem to get the computer to recognize a usb memory stick.
Any ideas guys and girls?

You've probably run into the fact that XP doesn't recognize SATA hard drives. You could be in for a ride! But first, try this:
Enter the BIOS as the computer boots up. Look for an option to select "Compatible" rather than "AHCI" for the Hard Drive. These names may be different. If you can change it, try the install again.

I trust you have all the drivers for XP for your computer. I believe they're on this website:

Recently, I performed a clean install of Win XP Pro SP2 (slipstreamed). Since then, every time i open, from standby, Firefox AND Internet Explorer (after network address is acquired) it takes 1-3 minutes just to load the "home page" google.com which should load fast since there's nothing to load...but it doesn't. so i tried other pages to confirm...

As it turns out, this problem only exists when loading the first page on any web browser after the wireless network resolves the IP address.

I updated my 802.11, and NIC (as recommended on this forum somewhere, though it only fixed the slow "acquiring network address" issue)

I figured that it was a WinUpdate issue (maybe missing some vital update), so i ran winupdate and SP3 was available. so i ran the SP3 install...which did not resolve the delay in loading initial internet pages.

Does anyone know why only the first page (immediately following a wireless connection) delays 1-3 minutes ("connecting to www.google.com...") to load despite the size of the page?

Looking through the docs, I am less optimistic that there is a supported way to do this. Has anyone gone through this and can offer any advice? Thank you,Patty

Hi all, Am looking to reinstall the OS for an old Lenovo IdeaPad for a friend of the family. But it is an old installation, and, when I try to download the ISO from Windows using the product key and S/N, I'm told: "the product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer." When I go to Lenovo, the customer support number did not call me back. Looking through the docs, I am less optimistic that there is a supported way to do this. Has anyone gone through this and can offer any advice? Thank you,Patty

After a fresh install of Windows 8 on a Lenovo Ideapad laptop computer, my tile screen or whatever this annoying screen that I have to go through to get to a desktop is called is littered with a couple of dozen spam tiles from Bing and IntelAppUp and Accuweather and a variety of other junk I don't want.

Does all this spam come standard with a regular copy of Windows 8; or is this just the fluff that Lenovo packages on the OEM version of Windows 8 they provide on their IdeaPad?

It is fluff from Lenovo on top of fluff from Microsoft, I am afraid.

Using the DISM, restorehealth, etc.. all do not seems to work. Advise. Spend 3 days doing it... even reformatting and reinstall OS.

Just wondering what everyone rushes to install on a fresh install of Windows. If this type of thread has been done already, sorry feel free to merge.

I tend to format and reinstall so often that I keep all my apps on a USB stick install them all then use File Hippo's update checker to update anything that's been updated since I put the installers on my stick, I also copy the new installers over to my stick for the next time I reinstall.

My first install is Anti-virus, which used to be Avast but i'm now using MS security essentials. I let it update and scan then reboot install any available Windows updates.

Second install is Firefox which is my favorite browser and I use to surf around while windows update is running.

After closing Firefox my third set of installs are plugins: Java, Flash Plugins (IE & non-IE), Shockwave, Adobe Air, and Python.

The rest are:

7-zip: Great utility for handling all kinds of archives (doesn't integrate into the shell well on Windows 7 yet)

Abiword: Light weight word processor. For the most I use this to compose longer blog posts and replies to private messages. It beats launching Open Office.

Audacity: Program for manipulating audio files. Mostly use this to cleanup intro and outro gaps on rips.

Any Video Converter: Pretty simple and easy to use video converter so I can play them on my Zen.

Ccleaner: An awesome temp/internet files cleaner.

Google Chrome: I use this as my secondary browser.

I found out that Lenovo G400 is not fully supported for Windows 10. I missed some tools that I had before in Windows 7 and installing Intel and AMD graphic drivers downloaded from their website gave me errors (system hang). Anyway, I plan to wipe the Windows 10 and do a fresh install of Windows 8.1. My question is, should I stick with Intel and AMD driver from Lenovo website or it is safe to download driver from their respective website? Since driver listed on Lenovo page has not been updated for quite some time. If so, could you please provide me with a way to download or install the driver from manufacturer webpage or point me which one to download. Thank you.

A:Lenovo G400 Graphic Drivers after A Fresh Install ...

You can download and try the drivers from Lenovo first and if they work, then no need to update to latest. Also - before you wipe and install 8.1 try using the Lenovo drivers in 10... Right click on driver setup file, choose properties then compatibility tab and set for Windows 8 then apply and run.Good luck.CB
