Preferred Solution: M58p: compatible graphics cards for gaming

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm trying to run unterned at at least full screen resolution.
I have no idea how to determine that. Can you identify what graphics cards other players have used that meet your gaming requirements, and we can tell you whether they are compatible. Only Nvidia, since AMD are not backward compatible with older ThinkCentres. Thx.

This is everything that i believe you need to know for my question. I want to know, what type of graphics cards am I able to use with my PC? I only ask because I was told certain graphics cards are not compatible with certain motherboards. All my PC information is in those 2 links. I also ask because my tower is quite slim compared to most, and I'm not sure if size matters in this situation. I'm not very computer literate.

So, what type of graphics cards can I get? I would like to upgrade mine. Mainly because when I try to play games, I get through the entire downloading phase and then i get an error saying something about my DirectX. I have DirectX 11.1 but I get this error: "Your DirectX version is unsupported."

The game I'm trying to play is Elder Scrolls Online. I have a link to the game's requirements at the top so you can compare it to what I currently have and maybe be able to tell me what the issue is? Basically, I'm looking at the game's "minimum requirements" and it looks as if I have everything but I don't really know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. An... Read more

Hi!

I am looking for graphics cards that don't require 400W power supplies. I don't thing the average card uses all the 400W of power, but what is a good PS for graphics cards?

I am setting up external graphics with a PCI-e to x16 PCI adapter that offers 8 pin power connector. You can find it here:

http://www.amazon.com/Laptop-Extern...6270390&sr=8-1&keywords=graphics+card+adapter

Along with the adapter, I am looking for an 8 pin to 6pin/8pin adapter (8pin female on one end, and 6 pin plus an 8 pin male plugs on the other).

I am looking at this PSU:

http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Dell-...=1456281602&sr=1-2&keywords=220w+power+supply

Also, I am using a Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7230. I have removed the network card without any flaws or error messages, that was plugged into the PCI-e slot.

Any replies are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

A:Which graphics cards are compatible with my motherboard?

You can't always tell with brand manufacturers since sometimes they will have the MB makers modify their boards. However, in this case it looks like any of the AGP video cards will be compatible with the MB. Where you will have to watch things is the card's power requirements. Many of the brands will have a PS on the small (meaning output) size.

A:Looking for a list of compatible Graphics cards

Coolartcaleb, welcome to the forum. HP doesn't have a list of video cards that are compatible with their computers.  However, newer cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  There is no way to upgrade the the BIOS to UEFI. The last video cards that didn't require UEFI are the GT 640's.  Your best option is to choose a manufacturer and contact their Tech Support for help with choosing the best card for your computer. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I have a 12 GB RAM and an intel i5-3270T CPU core in my computer, that fits in an about 11x11x4 inch case. The one thing is I have a regular Intel graphics card (with a 1792 MB total memory, and a 96 MB VRAM). I know thats not great for playing games and my low frame rate in computer games proves that. I wanted to know what graphics cards are compatible with my system or at least what I should look into before making a choice. Thank you.

A:list of compatible graphics cards for HP Pro 3300 Series MT

Hi: Below is the link to the quickspecs for your PC. The list of supported video cards can be found on page 4. http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04288441.pdf Nowadays, another factor when choosing a video card is the age/version of the BIOS in your PC vs the model of the video card. It's no longer a simple comparison of the power supply draw and PCI express version. Choosing the newest ones out on the market today will probably not work in a PC more than a year or two old.

I purchased a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 760 for my p7-1245 with a IPISB-CU motherboard. The product specs say that the motherboard supports PCI-E x16 video cards. I also purchased a 725w power supply to accomodate the new video card. After installing, the computer freezes on the HP splash screen. I can't even get into the setup menus. After replacing the card with the original AMD Radeon HD 7450 everything worked again. I have done some research and discovered a lot of similar problems when people try to replace or upgrade the graphics cards in their HP desktops. Recommedations including updating bios, etc. seem to be ineffective for others, with the eventual conclusion being the incompatibility of the board itself with the graphics card. Perhaps the card I bought requires a newer generation PCI slot and is not backwards compatible? Is there a list of compatible graphic cards for the IPISB-CU motherboard? Thanks for any help.

I think it's ridicutlous that you have such a short list of compatible cards. I just bought a GeForce GT 730 which is nearly identical in most specs to the 530 but the 730 won't run. Seriously, HP should be put out a clear warning with all of their PCs that they limit upgradability and ship the computers with compatible hardware. Apparently it's a very short list so it should only take 1 page of paper. Now I'm stuck with a video card I can't use and have you tried finding a 530 even for sale? I suspect the others are similarily rare.

I would go with the 9400GT it is the fastest out of the 3. But like you said wont give you any fancy modern graphics but should play your games with suffficient graphics. I found this one but not sure if its any good

If there's better than that for a similar price link me please

and I will be upgrading the power supply to 650w soon so that shouldn't be a problem

A:Any good graphics cards for gaming ?

The HD6850 is a decent card but you'll not get ultra high settings and good frame rates from it.
However in your price range it as good as it gets without spending considerably more on a card.
Upgrade the PSU first or at the same time as the card.

Hi guys,

I have a few questions regarding a multi monitor set up for my home PC, but first, some background info.

I bought an ATI HD 4670 (PCI-e) a few months back. It has 3 video outputs, 1x HDMI, 1x VGA and 1x DVI. I knew from the start that I wasn't going to be able to use all three outputs at once for a 3 monitor set up, which is sad. So, here goes:

1- Is there absolutely no way for me to use all 3 video outputs at once? Maybe modified drivers, something along those lines?

2- If the answer to the above question is negative, then would getting an additional PCI (not express) graphics card be an option to have more than 2 monitors running at once? The main card would be connected to a PCI-e slot.

3- Are USB graphics cards any good for gaming? I've been eyeing the HP USB Graphics adapter (I work at HP so I get a discount) as of late. Think flight sims.

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13226_na/13226_na.HTML#Technical Specifications

4- How much of a toll do USB graphics cards take on CPU power?

5- Did I miss any alternative? If so please let me know. By the way, I can't afford a Matrox adapter.

I have the above PC in the mini tower varaiety.  Recently, I replaced the PSU with a 450W and installed one of my AMD gfx cards (AMD RX-470).  All I got was a series of beeps that don't match the beep codes in the manual, and the CPU fan stayed at full RPM until the system shut down.  Then went into continuous restarts.I then tried an older AMD HD-5750.  Same results.  Out of curiosity, I tried my ancient Nvidia 8800GT and 8800 GTS.  It worked w/o a hitch with both cards.  Then I tried my new Nvidia GTX 1060.  Again, no problem with it.  But it refuses to work with my AMD cards.  Any ideas how I can remedy this? If more info is needed, I'll be happy to provide it....

A:Lenovo Thinkcentre M58 & M58p: yes, is compatible with GT 1030

I'm a huge fan of the GT 1030, but haven't seen any posts here on it and the M58/p.   You may be the first to try it, however the GT 1030 does work with the next gen model, M90/p (and newer), and I haven't seen a case where a GT 730 worked (on systems with PCIe ver. 2.0 -- GT 730 is known to work on M58) and the GT 1030 did not (meaning it has good backward compatibility, unlike AMD graphics cards.)  That doesn't guarantee that it will work, but there's a very high probability.  I hope that helps.

Edit:  Earlier versions of the M58 and all M57 have PCIe ver 1.1.  I would not recommending using a PCIe 3.0 card (GT 1030) in a 1.1 slot (PCIe 2.0 cards like GT 730 do work in 1.1 slots.).  Check your Intel Chipset specs to see which version is supported.

Edit 2:  I'm now thinking that all M58 had version 2.0 PCIe. M58 did have 2 generations of Intel processors, but I believe the Chipset stayed the same.

A:Is an ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX Graphics Card (STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING) compatible with an XPS 8910?

I think the card will physically fit. You will need to upgrade your power supply.
Search the forums to see what others have stuffed into an 8910 chassis.

Hi. I got a 2-3 year old Lenovo Yoga 500-14ACL laptop, Machine Type Model: 80NA002MMX, with the newest BIOS firmware from Lenovo, in which I got a Linux distro installed to a partition.  My only problem is, the WiFi does not work, as there are no drivers available for this card on Linux systems. I tried as a last resort to use a program called "ndiswrapper" to install the windows driver in my Linux distro with the help from Linux professionals, sadly it did not work. Now my only chance is to purchase a new WiFi card compatible with Linux distros (not a USB WiFi plug), so my question is, where is that "whitelist" which Lenovo has implemented into the BIOS online? I have searched online, but I cannot find a list containing compatible cards. I see many users has purchased cards previously without being aware that Lenovo reject certain cards, and that is exactly what many users report, the card is rejected by the BIOS, and the users are left with a card they can not use. Before I order a new WiFi card, I want to make sure the card I order is compatible in my laptop. I came from the store I bought the pc today, and the techicians there were very surpised that Lenovo in fact had such a list in their BIOS, and they were not aware about it until I informed them. They told me that all they could do is to contact Lenovo directly by mail, so they recommended I did that myself, in which this forum post is all about. What WiFi cards are in the BIOS'... I have a ThinkCentre m58P and have tried 2 cards in the machine to no avail. One just wasnt recognised the other gave bios bleeps. I want to turn this PC into a media streamer from as NAS server and need a HDMI output compatible Graphics card for this machine? Can anyone recommend whats on the whitelist or fully functions wih the M58p?

A:ThinkCentre M58p Graphics Card Whitelist

Can't recommend a card, but just wanted to make sure you knew that you don't have to have a graphics card with an HDMI port on it. The signaling for HDMI and DVI are identical, just different connectors. I have a cable that has a male DVI connector on one end and a male HDMI connector on the other. I connect from the DVI port of an ADD-2R card directly to my TV. There are also DVI/HDMI converters that accomplish this same task using the converter and a standard HDMI cable. Check the parts listing for your machine on the support site to see which graphics cards are supported for your model.

Edit: after checking my M58p, I think you will have an issue with heatsink so it will not fit. If you have chance try to get one to try it out or just take zotac:

Original answer:
Should be ok, providing you get low profile shields (seems that they are included). You will have to modify M58 a bit, because heatsink is wider than single width. I am running Zotac GTX 750 Ti in 6137 that is basically same ...

I was wondering what makes NVidia's quadro cards so much more expensive than even the high end gaming GPUs? I know there more for the "workstation" PC and are used more for 3d modeling and such with programs like 3ds max and maya but what exactly do these quadro cards have that the high end gaming GPUs don't? More cuda processors? Higher Memory bus width? The reason I am asking is because I recently purchased a GTX 780 SC and was thinking of getting into either 3ds max/maya in the near future. Would purchasing another GTX 780 and putting into sli configuration help with programs like max and maya? Thanks for the any help!

To answer your question, the Quaddro series of cards or FirePro for AMD are different from the gaming cards because they re-purpose the cards for straight up compute. The software included with them and drivers along with some additional features make them poor at gaming but better in the fields of compute/cuda dev/opencl/etc. Also those cards in most cases also cram more RAM than the standard card models for higher rendering among other things.

You will be fine with a 780 for the basics of 3DS max and maya and adding another would be somewhat beneficial later down the line but you can definitly use your superclock GTX 780 for this and get decent performance for these programs.

Current configuration running:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83Ghz 1333Mhz FSB-$50
120Gb SSD Crucial-Free
500GB WD 7200rpm-Free
2x2Gb Kingston 1333Mhz RAM-$20

Linksys Wireless AC Dual-Band AC1200 USB adapter-$30
M58p BIOS version 5CKT77A-$30

Grand total of $235

Ok, this is a LONG story lol.

I found this online for $30 here in town. I never knew about this electronic recycling center. When I got there, they had an ENTIRE pallet stacked and shrink wrapped with these machines.

I bought the M58p and another stick of 2Gb ram for $40.

With some parts lying around from other upgrades, I was able to put in a 120Gb Crucial  SSD and installed Windows 7-64bit home. It installed just fine, and it updated Windows without a hitch. I went onto Lenovo?s support site and downloaded all the drivers. Chipset, audio, etc...

I installed an old 512Mb Radeon HD4350 to get dual monitor running.

40mm fan for the Northbridge heatsink. It was getting pretty hot.

About a month later the same place had an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 for $50. It was very easy to remove the CPU heatsink and clean eve... Read more

Very well done!   Thank you for the write-up and photos.   It would help to know the 4 digit model number.

Also, could I ask for more details regarding the fan, in as much as you can (make, model, physical fitment, where is it connected, 3 or 4-pin, does the BIOS control the fan speed, temps before and after, espec. while gaming, also GPU temps.)  Thx.

Hi there,

My computer came with a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP card, which is apparently a Graphics/Video Card with onboard video (or the other way around, video w/ onboard graphics) Now, this is a terrible card- it can barely play any modern games. I want to get a new graphics card, but I'm concerned if I install a new Graphics Card, that because of the onboard video, it will affect this greatly, or if I actually need a video card instead of graphics. What do I actually need, and will it adversely affect anything on my PC.

I can provide more information if you want...
