Jumpy sound and video and flash and java and cpu maxing after XP SP3 argh

Q: Jumpy sound and video and flash and java and cpu maxing after XP SP3 argh

Jumpy sound and video and flash and java and cpu maxing after XP SP3 argh

I was forced by my ISP to download XP SP3. Since then .... any video, game or sound runs for about 10 minutes before the game/video/dvd goes all jumpy and the sound eventually goes to a buzz. My CPU maxes out with system.exe about 60% and Chrome about 30% and a couple others making 100%.... I read a bit on here before getting confused....argh

Preferred Solution: Jumpy sound and video and flash and java and cpu maxing after XP SP3 argh

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Trimming down that bloated Startup directory might help:

Click Start > Run > type msconfig

Select the Startup tab.

Other than Symantec/Norton, almost all items can be unchecked.
Reboot the computer.

After rebooting, when the small System Configuration Utility window appears, ignore the message. Put a check mark in that window, then click OK.

I uninstalled several dvd conversion programmes on the 18 dec 08, They did not work and then installed one that did. After this my pc ran very slow, sound from online bbc radio was distorted and online videos would not play without jumping, firefox was very slow to load in fact any programme i tried to load was very slow and i occasionally had a crash. I tried cc cleaner, norton and several other registry cleaners but other than telling me that i had a problem and saying they had been fixed, the problem remained. I also uninstalled as many programmes as i could including itunes, google earth etc.etc. I cannot play itunes without distortion. I reset to an earlier date but this was on the 18th and could not go back further. My pc is an Acer Aspire 1640z with xphome and service pack 3. It's time to replace it but I would like to keep it going a little longer. I am reluctant to do a system restore as I'm not too savvy. Can anybody suggest a solution that a none too technical person like me, could try?

A:distorted sound jumpy video very slow pc

check your drives are dma mode

what are you running
video card
power supply

check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them

registry cleaners are not recommended for general use

Have recently un-installed my ATI Radeon x1300 video driver because it caused endless problems and re-installed the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE that my computer (Dell C521, Vista Ultimate 64-bit) originally came with, plus a recommended NVIDIA update. And, by the way, I use an ATI Theater 650 Pro card, 32 bit version with Media Center.

Problem: old TV recordings (from the ATI Radeon days) work perfectly. With new recordings, as well as live TV, the pictures and sound jump from one frozen 1-2 second episode to the next. Sound the same thing. Is there a setting in the NVIDIA control panel, that could fix this, or is it something else??

Thank you in advance for your help.

Ok i'm having the same problem as lots of other people.

I go to bbc.co.uk/iplayer, i click on something i want to watch I get there and the page appears but with no pre-video image or play button.

I have just down graded from windows 7 64bit to windows 7 32bit as I thought this may have been the problem, due to flash 64bit problems. So I have a fresh install of windows 7.

I have tried quite a few things, please see the list below:

1. Both firefox, chrome, ie 9 & ie 10. All with no flash or java installed, i know this is not right, but something interesting happened. The website did exactly the same thing as before, there was nothing telling me on the bbc website that flash was needed and go here to download it.

2. Installed different versions of flash and java, and in combinations of old & old, old & new, new & old, new & new.

3. I have tried older versions of browers, this made no difference.

4. My wifes computer does the same thing with firefox and chrome, but ie 9 does work correctly. we copied all settings from internet options, ie 9's settings from her's to mine. Still nothing.

5. I have tried clearing cashe, nothing changed.

6. I have removed flash and java. then just installed Google Chrome, as this has flash built in. I then tried bbc iplayer and still nothing. I then install java, again nothing.

7. There have been other website as well as bbc iplayer, that are not working.

These problems happen in all browsers on my computer and on al... Read more

Still am unable to get web pages up or connect to msn messenger.... I am connecting to the network but no web pages... I'm thinking virus spyware realted but its hard to scan and remove such things when you cant connect to the internet..

It could be a with the address type as it is listed as "automatic private address"
whereas my mates who connects to the same wireless network is "assigned by DHCP" whatever that means....

help please

A:Argh Argh ARGH still cant connect to the computer!!!!!!! wits end....

If you're getting a private IP address, 169.xxx that is the first problem to be solved. It means you arnt reaching the DHCP server. If you solve that, probably everything else will fall into line.
Try to ping that will test your nic and TCP stack. If that is sucessful try pinging google.com.

Ping means Start>Run>(type) CMD(enter)
In the command box that comes up type: ping (enter)
You will either get a display that says there was a reply or not.
Try it.

Hi there, by a process of elimination I discovered it was my Vista Home Premium x64 the culprit of me getting something akin to jumpiness and fuzziness when watching online flash videos.

When in a virtualbox with Win7, the flash works fine. hence its not the graphics card the monitor or any hardware.

I've also looked up issues about it written in the internet, but noone refers to mine. The closest I could was people not getting flash installed, so I went to SysWOW64/Macromed/flash and updated some file that was sitting there, but no luck.

The fuzz happens every few seconds, the whole image fuzzes up because the horizontal lines shift like in an earthquake and go sideways mixing up with other vertical axis' hozrizontal lines coming in the opposite direction. The result is a bit like when with old TVs and the connection wasnt up to notch the image would zigzag.

Its very annoying and makes watching many flash videos virtually impossible. Would greatly appreciate any help.

Yesterday I noticed my laptop lagging and after checking windows task manager I found Ping.exe using all unused CPU to max it out at 100%. I have tried ending the process tree but shortly after it restarts itself. Also WLIDSVC.EXE and WLIDSVCM.EXE are running and I do not remember them running before and when ending them they also restart around the same time as Ping.exe. When clicking links it will go to them but also open a new tab in FF for a ad normally for something shopping related or you've won a gift card ect. Since this has started AVG resident shield has popping up saying it blocked 4 different Java related Trojans within seconds of each other and AVG online shield blocked 2 Exploit Blackhole Exploit Kits (type 1889) and 2 Exploit Blackhole Exploit Kits (type 2060) at different times within 2 days. I have scanned whole computer with AVG and AVG Anti-Rootkit scan a few times and they have found nothing to remove. I have also tried scanning with Housecall, and McAfee Security Scan Plus and have had no luck getting rid of whatever this is. Please Help!!! Thanks in advance! Here are the logs you asked for....

How can I stop Flash Advertisements from playing music (besides turning my sound off!)

I don't like advertisements in general but understand they're necessary for free content. However, I cannot tolerate awful music coming from my computer - jolting out of my chair - and when it happens at work, its especially obnoxious!

Any ideas???

I have upgraded my os to xp, and my onboard sound to a SB live 24bit pci card, however, the sound is still very choppy. Recently, I have noticed that the cpu is registering 100% usage when the sound is affected. When the sound is normal, the cpu meter shows only about 25% usage. There is no real pattern, it doesn't seem to matter if I am playing multiple wave files back in an editing program, or if I am just playing back a single wav. or mp3 file in Win Media Player, the sound is always like this. I do not have any other programs running at the time. I have tried different programs to playback files, but there has been no differece. It seems that the sound is choppy through at least 50% of any sound file. Anyone familiar with this issue?

A:all sound is choppy, processor is maxing out!

First its always better to do a clean install of any OS rather than upgrade, you can drag some old problems to the new OS, but before getting too far into that it would help if you posted more onfo. like your system spec, at least the mainboard, CPU, RAM, but the more info the easier to diagnose.

A:Vista maxing out core2 with new video card

Do you have your old video card drivers uninstalled? they could conflict. You also should try going into your BIOS and setting your default video card to PCI x16 if it isn't already. It might be using integrated graphics right now, which could max out the processor. Also make sure you plugged your new card into the PCI x16 slot. If that doesn't work try reinstalling the latest drivers for the card from the manufacturer's website. If that doesn't work, contact the video card's manufacturer or your computer manufacturer.

I just got a new external dvd rewriter. It plays some dvds fine. Two dvds have a very jumpy sound and/or jumpy image. I had played one of them on my old dvd drive without any problem. All the dvds I play were new when I bought them from a shop.
Do I have to tweak the speed or something? I have tried with power dvd (jumpy sound, no image), media classic player (image but jumpy sound) and vlan (no image, no sound).

A:jumpy sound

There could be something wrong with the DVD's causing the player to have trouble reading those particular DVD's, or it may be an issue with the connection. How is the drive connected, USB? If so, try disconnecting any other USB devices. Are you trying to do anything else on the PC while playing the DVD?

Guys, I am at a total loss. I have no idea what's causing this, but any and all Flash video modules are giving me this problem. I start playing a video, then just a few seconds later, the video pauses, loads for a second and then resumes with no audio. The only fix I've found is to restart my browser, but that's become completely maddening. I feel pretty certain it's a Flash issue because everything else (system sounds, iTunes, WMP, VLC, games) all output sound like they ought to, but any Flash video player gives me trouble, and it's a cross-browser thing, too. I typically use Chrome, but, thinking maybe it was a browser issue, I switched to Firefox for a couple of days and, when that didn't do it, I went to IE, but the problem still persists. I've scanned for malware, adware, spyware and viruses using Malwarebytes, Adaware, Spybot and Avast and I'm squeaky clean. I've reinstalled Flash, I've installed codec packs, uninstalled codec packs, uninstalled programs, reinstalled programs and run all my browsers with and without add-ons and I've got nothing. I've searched high and low for results, but I haven't really found anything. Some results I've seen suggest deleting some registry entries, but a lot of information is rather dated. If anybody can help me out, I'd turn flips in the air.

I have a very odd problem. When i boot up my PC from being powered down, I get no sound at all through my realtek HD sound card. Not from any sources, mp3s, line in, web videos, etc.

Also when this is happening, when i play a flash youtube video, it stutters.

Nothing gets the sound back, not even disabling the sound card, etc.

So I then do a reboot of the PC and after the reboot everything works until i shut down the computer. The next day i turn it on and no sound. Reboot fixes it.

Anyone have this issue before?

*Edit, also wanted to add that i have updated to the latest Realtek driver off their website in hopes of fixing this issue with no luck. R2.70 dated 6/22/12

Windows 8 has a different power down sequence than other Windows Operating Systems. When you power off, its not really powered off completely. Its in a sort of hibernation state. Because it doesn't do a "normal" boot with the BIOS this could be your problem.

There is an option to correct this. Give this a try and see if it fixes or helps the problem.
With Windows 8, “off” isn’t really off

HI , I was given an older computer to revamp for my brother. He is on a disability income and I want to burn him some video files to watch .. have some old family movies. It is an older computer with a Celeron 466 processor, and integrated video and sound. The video shares ram . I have assigned it 64 megs of ram and have installed 256 megs total . It is running windows 98SE. Is there any hope of getting divx video or mpeg video to run smoothly on here ? If so would my best bet be trying to install a separate video card, adding more ram , upgrading the cpu , all of the above? I need to do this the least inexpensive way possible please. I know my last pc before the one I built was a 533 and it could play video without this difficulty as long as I didn't run other things at the same time. PS have also tried putting the video on the hard drive and still get pauses in the video and then the sound isn't in sync.
Thank you very much.

Whenever I am playing PC games (eg. Sims, Tycoon games) I notice that my video is jumpy, or it pauses as if it is buffering. I have more than enough memory (1GB) in my system. Windows XP Pro. My hard drive is a 180GBB which was recently defraged. My CPU is a 2.6 Celeron. My video right now is an Intel integrated adapter. I also noticed that my CPU usage is at 100% when the game is active. My question is if this is a CPU or a Video problem? I am thinking of purchasing an 128MB AGP Video Card. Another thing is that the game is running from the CD-ROM. Any suggestions.
P.S. I have my system setup for Best Performance.

In November I got Verizon lte installed internet provider to replace Clear. Ever since when I go to watch tv or any videos in full screen mode the voice is all out of sync. I have 2 desktops running windows xp and using sea monkey (mozilla) browsers. One is connected to tv in the living room and the other to a 15" monitor. I have never had a problem before, so I'm not sure if its the lte service or something else. I have spent hours searching for a solution and nothing has worked so far. I have the latest version of flash player and it is the correct plugin for mozilla. Verizon is no help, they sent out a "tech guy" which was nothing more than a independent cable tv installer, He was here about 5 minutes looking at lights on the cantenna and router and saying "everything is working fine" Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

I've done a fair amount of reading and searching on CPU Usage in Windows 7 (both Beta & RC 1) and haven't had any luck with this issue yet.

The machine I'm using contains:
Asus P4P800 motherboard
Intel P4 2.8 GHz dual core
2.5 GB of ram
GeForce 7800 GS 256MB
Clean install of Windows 7 RC1 (had same problem in Beta previously)

The issue I'm having is my CPU Usage spikes up to 80-100% very often and performance of any other task during this period is frustratingly laggy. These spikes happen from even the simplest action ranging from opening the start menu, to scrolling through text on a webpage and worst of all playing video (Youtube is my benchmark tool, 80% usage guaranteed during video play). Using any web browser with 3+ tabs open is guaranteed to spike CPU usage over 50%. Multitasking in general begets a sluggish OS performance.

Some of the solutions I've read and tried:
Installing NVIDIA's Windows 7 video drivers, no improvement.
Disabling the HD Audio in device manager seems to help a lot of people, I don't have this in my device manager.
Sound drivers/devices also seem to be a leading source of CPU over-usage in a lot of cases. I've tried disabling/removing my sound card, drivers, and audio services to no avail. I initially had a sound card and on-board sound (AC97) running and disabling one of the two had a minor improvement in performance but nothing spectacular. Even with both disabled the CPU usage still spikes to 90-100% during video play, not... Read more

OK so a bit more succinct way to describe the problem.

Whenever I play youtube videos, regardless of browser, the video stutters and loads very very slow. Even after a video is fully loaded it will stutter during playback.

Two laptops in the same house, one with XP one with 7 RC1 have no problem loading youtube videos quickly with smooth playback. So the issue clearly stems from this PC's hardware.

I don't have any problem playing video files from the hard drive.

That's the most specific instance I can use to describe the problem. Otherwise the system just seems a little sluggish, e.g. when loading web pages they load in chunks, rather than filling in quickly. Also, when moving a window quickly around the desktop the border of the window is laggy.

It really seems like a video issue that's causing this (despite the high cpu usage indicator).

Any other ideas besides installing NVIDIA W7 drivers?

Hello, first time posting in these kind of forums. I’m used to googling around and finding the answer to my computer problems but so far no dice and I’m starting to get a wee bit stressed.
On Wednesday, my web browser FireFox and Adobe Flash player updated to the latest versions. I didn’t think anything of it until I attempted to play some videos and found the youtube ones crashing while other kinds of videos, often the HTML5 types (i.e. Vimeo) play but don’t have any sound at all.
I unchecked “Use smooth scrolling” and “Use hardware acceleration when available” as I seen advised when I looked up how to solve that problem but then I got the error where the youtube video tries to play the first few seconds three times as it tries lower or high quality settings before displaying its static “error” message and the other videos remain with no sound. I restarted the computer and reset firefox but I only came upon a solution when I temporarily disabled the speakers. When I re-enable the speaker, the sound comes back but soon it goes back to the status quo. It seemed to go away late Thursday morning and for the rest of the day but now its back.
I uninstalled Flash player and I thought that might be the cause but the youtube videos, which run on the inbuilt shockwave flash, just eventually become mute instead of crashing. Yesterday and today, some videos that continued playing as that came in and gained ... Read more

I have followed thoroughly various tutorials for setting up OBS for streaming. Initially I had set it up for Youtube, then switched to Twitch. This works fine. I have absolutely no complaint with that. Streaming out to these platforms is working as I would like.
This issue I'm experiencing is what I can best describe as a pulsing or jumping, about once per second when I play a file back that I have recorded (not streamed) with OBS.

The audio is flawless, no stuttering, nothing like that. Audio BR is at 160...

As I watch the status information in OBS as I am recording, I see no warning about overloaded encoder, the frame rates are where they are supposed to be, no dropped frames. everything should appear to be good. CPU load is unremarkable, again plenty of headroom. It doesn't seem to matter if I increase bit rate, decrease bit rate, CBR, VBR, increase or decrease framerate, or which software i use to view the output fine: VLC, WMP, whatever, there is this pulsing. Its just enough to be annoying. Its subtle, but it's there. And it doesn't matter which PC I play the file on ( I have a few I can test it with)

The computer running OBS is more than adequate for the task.

I have - in an effort to improve things - changed recording format, changed encoder, even the location to which I was saving it ( initially that was a network drive, but I change to an internal SSD for test purposes) I can not get rid of this.

This is just for a little pet project, I ... Read more

My brother gave me his laptop as he got a new one.

He's not the most tech-savy person and needless to say the laptop was riddled with errors and what not, so I figured the easiest way was to format the laptop, however he didnt have a windows CD to install it again, so i just did a recovery... It worked perfect, all the drivers re-installed themselves, except the sound driver.

With no way of knowing what driver i should download, I'm stuck!

The only way that I've seen fit to getting information, is by visiting "thetechguys" website, who deal with the support side of my laptop [apparently]... But the website isnt working, or isnt working by accessing it on this laptop. So I'm even more stuck!

It's an advent 8315, and it came pre-installed with Windows Vista.. whatever sound driver was installed, worked before. So there must be one out there for me!

Can anyone help?

Ok, so I've surf-ed the net looking for answers and I've actually run across some here who have had this same issue, but have yet to find anyone with an answer. So.. I start a new post, with this issue sitting to my right.
This would be a reformat, but alas my wife does not want me to reformat her PC... and I have had this issue 3 times before on other people's PC's.

The dreaded blank "Yes" "No" dialog box on window's XP login screen. Basically here is what happens. I turn the pc on. Loads the blue log in screen, with a blank dialog box with the options to click either "Yes" or "No". It does not matter what I click. The PC loads the background image and then automatically logs the user out. It's a vicisious cycle. I can not log on. Ok...

Start in safe mode... Check! Can do. Let's try a restore point. Check. Still there.

Let's try deleteing users and adding new ones....... still there.

Let's try restarting in safe mode with networking. Can't.. still there.

Odd... It does not happen when I load in safe mode... but does when I load in safe mode with networking. Hmmm... a new symptom.. (anyone feeling like House?) should tell me something.

Safe mode msconfig... uncheck everything from starting up. Still there.

Safe mode sysedit.... Autoexec.bat is empty as is Config.sys

So I'm either going to be trying a Repair with the windows XP cd... or I'm left with a reformat.. UNLESS Someone here can help.

I doubt you would need java. Flash may be needed to watch some videos. It can easily be disabled and enabled in Chrome by typing chrome://plugins in the address bar.
I would recommend you create a user account for browsing the internet and not use an admin account.
Use Chrome for a browser with the following extensions.
Ghostery    In Ghostery enable everything in options. It is not necessary to create a ghostery account. If a site requires it you can pause           Ghostery by right clicking the icon.

I installed xp pro sp2 intagrated, when I installed my verizon disc I had to install windows virtual machine to read it! Should this be removed? Often I need flash player to see sites, so I installed DirectX 9c, Java JRE version 1.5.0_02, flash player 7 and macromedia shockwave. What is recomended? Also I cannot find the tweak here to unload dlls in xp? Refresher please.

A:Direct X, Java, Flash?

Its a good thing to have all of those.Macromedia Flash Player is needed to view anything that was compiled in Flash. Which most websites are now starting to use this more commonly.Java JRE version 1.5.0_02 is needed to view anything that was compiled in Java. This is usually used for many interactive sites: ie: interactive tv games, regular games, chats (like the one here).Directx9.0c (any version will do, as long as you have the latest one available for your computer) is needed to play most game today on the computer. I would advise you to keep them.If the disk you have for installing Virtual Machine uses one of those interactive Flash movies that take up the full screen and ask you what you want to install, then yes I can see why you would need all of this to install Microsoft Virtual Machine. However if my memory serves me correctly I think that 99.999% of Microsoft Windows XP Home and Pro already comes with MS Virtual Machine. When you say you installed MS SP2 integrated, are you saying you installed MS Windows XP with a CD disk that already had SP2 integrated into that? And one final thing when you say, "version disk," are you referring to your MS Windows XP disk, or another disk that just has MS Virtual Machine on it?Hope this helps. Starting three days ago I've been told by all sorts of sites that I need to either download or update my Flash/Java player when I have each at their latest updates. Youtube is probably the biggest thing. It's just a pain in the butt and I would like it resolved. Halp!

A:HELP -- Java/Flash Issues

I have had the same problem. I have started thinking it depends on Vista.

I have done what they say on here http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...nalId=tn_19166

Now it doesn't say that I need to install/download/update Flash Player anymore, but still I cannot watch videos, it keeps buffering every 5 seconds.

Can anybody help?

I recently had issues with "Antivirus" malware. I got rid of it by using malwarebytes, but now when I try to go on youtube there is no video or audio. When I go on twitter it says I need to enable javascript, but I've checked and it is enabled. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both flash and java, but that hasn't worked. I tried using firefox instead, and I still had the same issues. I also tried uninstalling malwarebytes because I thought the second antivirus might be screwing up my system, but no luck there either. I'm not very technologically inclined, so help would be appreciated. If you need any other info on my system just ask, I can probably figure out that much.

A:Trouble with flash and java

I'm having this same exact issue. I've removed and reloaded Flash Player about 20 times now, and it is a real pain. Please, someone, anyone, is there a solution?

Adobe - Flash Player

How do I test whether Java is working on my computer?

Is something in my settings wrong such that it wont load or let me see the comments on this news website? Using other computers, obviously with different settings, I AM able to see the comments.

I'm not sure which is freezing my PC.

I'm posting here in the Firefox thread because that's what I use mostly, but this also happens when I view the site in IE.

The site is http://www.taoswebcam.com/ and it's a site that has a webcam in the town of Taos New Mexico that updates every 15 seconds. It will update once usually OK but then it Freezes my whole PC and I have to Control, ALT, delete to get it unfroze.

I would like to use this site with out my PC freezing can anyone help?

My OS is windows ME
Browser is Firefox 1.0.4
Or IE 6.0.2 (I only use when accessing FTTP sites)
512 RAM
Performance running Firefox right now is 71%
and at start up 88%
Java script reader is Java 2 platform standard edition 1.5.0

I can't think of anything else that might help.

Thank you,

A:Freezing Java? or Flash?

I've just been to the site with my usual security settings, and couldn't see anything, but the Status Bar countdown 'Next live image in 00:15' is working.

I then went to Control Panel > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level, and set Microsoft VM to Low Safety and it's working now.

See if this works. If not, set it back to High Safety and post back and we'll try something else.
