Loading Yahoo Messenger crashes my computer

Q: Loading Yahoo Messenger crashes my computer

I did a clean install of a XP Pro SP2 (I got hold of a new one to replace my old XP Home). I followed instructions I obtained from Techspot except that I loaded the system drivers before I got all the upgrades for Windows (it is now running XP Pro SP3).

Everything went well until I loaded Yahoo Messenger and I immediately had the system crash and reboot. I received a Windows "your system has recovered from a serious error" message that suggested it was caused by driver or hardware incompatibility. When the system rebooted, Messenger started to load automatically - I clicked the X to close it and the system crashed again and rebooted with the same Windows error message.

I tried to open several other things and each time the system crashed and rebooted. Ultimately I opened Control Panel and removed Yahoo Messenger and then did a search and deleted all files relating to it. The system operated fine at this point.

I downloaded several different versions of YM but each time it crashed - often before it had finished installing properly (when this happened, on rebooting, the YM shortcut was on the desktop and YM automatically started to load but didn't complete. Sometimes YM was in the Control Panel list when this happened, on other occasions, even though it appeared on the desktop and started to load it wasn't in the list of programs in CP that could be removed. I had to delete all the YM files and folders by finding them first in Search.

I am now stumped and have removed YM from my system; the web version nworks but it only does text chat and not much else, so isn't much good.

Is it possible that by loading the drivers before i updated XP has caused a conflict?

BTW as part of the reloading of software, I updated all my drivers using Driver Whiz. Software that I loaded before YM all seems to work fine (includes Opera, Spyzooka; MBAM, Avast Internet Security, Windows Messenger).

Can anyone help please. I am using a Gigabyte motherboard with CPU of 1.7Ghz and 1 Gb of RAM and running AMD chipset. I'm afraid I'm no technowiz so I need fairly non-tech advice please (or good step-by-step fix instructions).

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My problem is with the latest version of Yahoo Mail. I have recently upgraded to this version and initially messengers for Yahoo and Facebook opened there. But then these are not opening anymore. Whenever i click on the 'New Chat button, i get the message that "Yahoo Messenger is currently loading" or "Yahoo messenger is currently not available".

The biggest problem is that this new version does not allow one to go back to an earlier version. I have another yahoo account also where i luckily did not upgade to the new version. Here yahoo messenger easily opens in Yahoo Mail.

Any solutions?

I'm having trouble with Yahoo Messenger here lately after updating to the new version of the program and I don't know where else to post this. I have Windows XP so I figured this would be a good spot.

Anyway what happens is I can open task manager to see what programs are running. I then double click Yahoo IM and when I do it shows up in the task manager as running.

However within three seconds it disappears from the list like it was closed by something. I've went to Yahoo Customer support for this and they're a bunch of morons. They've sent me through the same steps three times now and it isn't getting anywhere and the infinite loop is getting annoying.

Anyone have any idea on what I can do to get it working? Let me know what details you need and I will post them up here.

Until yesterday (and i have changed NOTHING), Yahoo! Messenger worked perfectly well.

Now, EVERY time it loads, it connects, loads my contacts list and then says crashes with the error "YPager has caused an error <unknown>. If this problem persists, try restarting your computer"

I downloaded a new version, manually uninstalled the old one using "add/remove progs", rebooted and then installed the newly downloaded version.

Same problem. However, it only seems to crash when it connects to Yahoo! server. If i am not connected to the net, it will load up fine. Hmmm.....so, what oculd be causing this ?

I am not behind a firewall btw.

I apologize in advance about the length of this post.

I currently have Yahoo Messenger installed on my wife's laptop (Win XP Home). However, every time the computer is restarted, the installation wizard screen of Messenger comes up. Clicking the "cancel" button will exit the program, but it still comes back every time. Clicking the "next" button causes installation to begin and it re-installs correctly. (But, to be clear, this program is already installed on the computer when the install wizard pops up.)

Being tired of having this install wizard pop up all the time, I went to Control Panel to "add remove programs" with the intent of permanently uninstalling it. However, to my dismay, clicking on add/remove also caused the wizard to pop up. I started trying other icons in the control panel and found that about half of them caused the install wizard to pop up (including "display", "system" and my logitech camera controls). Once the install wizard comes up and I cancel out of it (or complete the install), I am still unable to open any of these essential functions on the computer because it pops up again. Yahoo Messenger install wizard has essentially taken over my computer.

Here's what I've done to try to fix this so far, all to no avail:

-uninstall Messenger from the "Program Files/Yahoo/Messenger/UNWISE" program - no luck and no luck after a clean install
-manually delete the entire Messenger and/or... Read more

A:Yahoo messenger install wizard has taken over my computer.

You need to find out the name of the *.msi file that is used to install yahoo messenger. Once you find this out, then run regedit, search for the *.msi file used to install it, and delete the references to it. Then reinstall messenger once more. This will fix the registry settings and allow you to add/remove it like it was supposed to.

Be careful editing the registry, create a backup of the registry before starting in case something goes wrong.

You may be able to find out the filename of the *.msi file by doing a registry search for yahoo and noting the values, or the *.msi file may be in the yahoo messenger folder.

Everything is great now, except that Windows Update still won't work and sometimes freezes my computer, Internet Explorer does the same, as does Yahoo Messenger. I have run Registry Mechanic, Ad-Aware, Updated Norton and did a complete virus scan, all with no problems. I am really frustrated now. Can someone tell me what might be causing this? I was thinking possibly a software conflict, but that's just an uneducated guess and was hoping someone a little more knowledgeable could shed some light on the problem for me!

Hello there,

I've been having issues with my computer for the past 3 days and have tried to solve the issue from what I've dug up online and familiar posts on this website to no avail. Whenever I load up a game (ex. Dark Souls 3, Overwatch, etc.) my computer shuts down unexpectedly and restarts itself. No bluescreen or error messages, no new minidump files.

I've tried to disable restart on critical failure yet it continues to reboot on it's own. I've ran HWMonitor and haven't seen anything that seems out of place unless I'm missing something. I've ran prime95, no unexpected shutdown. I then ran FurMark and my computer would instantly shutdown and restart so I assumed the GPU was going bad so I brought it over to a friends to try it with his system and it ran Grand Theft Auto 5 without problems. I then removed one stick of ram and tested them individually, 1 caused an instant crash upon loading up my character in Dark Souls 3 and the other did fine for 15 minutes until I crashed again.

I am now curious if this is a PSU issue and wondering if there is anything I can try to tell if the PSU is simply dying, if my version of Windows 7 is now on the fritz, or if there is something I've overlooked entirely.

My computer specs are:

i7-4790K quad core (Never overclocked)
asus z97-k/csm lga 1150 atx intel motherboard
16gb (2x8gig) RAM
Geforce GTX 970
Thermaltake 600 watt PSU
Windows 7

Thank you in advance!

A:Computer crashes and reboots upon loading games.

Another thing to note I have tried uninstalling and deleting every nVidia driver and folder and installed all new versions without any difference. I did not change the registries however because I did not want to take that risk.

This is also a screenshot of HWMonitor without a game open.

Ok, I have basically no computer knowledge, but I will describe my problem to the best of my ability. The other day my cousin came over for a barbeque, he is supposably the family computer genius so I let him on my computer. He started editing the registry, saying he was removing so called "viruses". I have no knowledge of what he added/removed to/from the registry during this time but when I next went on the computer after he had left (all he did after editing the registry was exit the registry editer) I was unable to click on any of my desktop short cuts or the buttons on the menu bar such as start. I then rebooted by holding the power button thinking everything would be fine but the computer froze after the windows xp loading screen, showing the screen where you login to your account, except with only a windows xp logo in the middle of the screen, no login tabs. I tried rebooting numerous times but the problem persisted. I have no idea where to go from here. If any extremely smart and computerly talented people have any ideas about solving my problem, please explain in full detail, as I have only basic computer knowledge. I may not be able to answer any questions you have for several days as I can only do this at a friend?s house now. Thanks for reading this and I apologise for any bad spelling/grammar. I am only fourteen years old.

A:Computer crashes after windows xp loading screen. Please help!

When you first turn the computer on hold down the F8 key,a screen will come up with several options, choose last known good configuration, then I think you get another screen to choose which operating sytem to use, you'll only have one so just press enter.

Hello everyone. I have Frontier Communications as my ISP. My login page is a Frontier Yahoo page. I assumed that since it is using Yahoo, I could sign in to Yahoo Messenger with my frontier account but I have no idea how to do this. I tried doing it with my Frontier Yahoo e-mail and password but it didn't work. Any suggestions?

The computer in question crashes every time a game (WoW, UT2004, Black and White 1&2 all tested) is loaded, after about 2-4 minutes. Usually works fine on other programs. Crashed once on load of a youtube page.

The crash goes like this: freezes, sound starts looping, screen goes black, then monitor shows it is receiving no signal. The sound looping does not occur in WoW.

Up to date drivers for both video and sound, ram passes memtest, PSU rated for 850 watts (way more than this needs).

Tried unplugging the sound card to see if it was the problem, and now it won't boot except in safe mode...

any suggestions?

A:Computer always crashes a few minutes after loading any game, and one other time.

Ok, plugged sound back in, now it boots.

Still won't play games though. Going to try uninstalling the card again.

I found this site through fixing a problem - namely that a registry entry showed up in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\WindowsNT\drivers32 . Removing this key and the file fixed that problem but another has showed up in the aftermath. This may or may not be related to the problem but it all started at about the same time.

Now whenever I run Yahoo Messenger and open a chat window the part of the window that would display messages will not paint. No messages show up in it and moving the window around simply moves whatever image was showing through when it was opened. Closing the window results in a crash:

[codebox]AppName: yahoom~1.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.2152 ModName: unknownModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0ebb1e21[/codebox]

Windows Messenger (which I never use but thought I'd try now) crashes when it is trying to set up the passport account. It generates no error message that I can see.

In an attempt to fix the problem I have -
uninstalled YIM. Deleted the program files directory. Removed the registry entries for HKCU and HKLM.
reinstalled YIM v9.
uninstalled YIM. Deleted everything as above.
reinstalled YIM v8. (same problem, possibly a different error message)
uninstalled YIM v8.
reset the IE configuration to factory defaults.
reinstalled IE v7 (thinking it might be the embedded IE).
Installed IE v7 updates.
reinstalled YIM 9.

I have McAfee SecurityCenter running and I've scanned for viruses with it but found nothing. I've run Spybot S&D and f... Read more

A:Yahoo Messenger, Windows Messenger crash

Yahoo responded to the crash report with a list of things to try to get YIM working again. After following there was no change:

* Reset IE to factory defaults
* Change security to put yahoo.com in sites list
* Uninstall all .NET frameworks - reboot
* Install 3.5 .NET framework - reboot
* Apply 3.5 .NET patches - reboot
* Start YIM (no change)

So, my computer is about 2.5 years old and I have been facing massive problems with flashplayer.

The issue is this: Whenever I run videos with my favorite drama's, the video player would then stop loading cause the whole screen to freeze whilst still being able to move my mouse. Then the computer would turn black and restart and tells me that I need to insert a new boot device or boot media in order to boot up my computer. So What is the problem here? I have downgraded flash player beta 12.0 to 11.9 and I have defrag my computer. Usually, mozilla firefox would tell me, the shockwave flashplayer plugin has crashed and allows me to refresh, but it has become so alarmingly frequent that every other video I view would result in me needing to Hard reset my computer by turning off the sockets.

Continued usage would cause me to freeze every half an hour of usage even after resetting. The question is am i overheating, something too? It all started when other programs im running concurrently with the video stopped responding and my computer keeps freezing before it restarts itself. I was running flash games that were downloaded.

How do I fix this?

A:Computer Restarts when Video Stops Loading/ Flash Player Crashes

first of all id try a non Beta version of flash. make sure its the x64 bit version and not the 32bit. For some unknown reason the automatic flash update always downloads the 32bit version for me..
Next id update all of you drivers (most important GPU and chipset) this will eliminate any driver conflicts that may pop up.

Hi Tech Support Guy Forums,

I have a very annoying problem. I am using Yahoo Messenger, have been for some time. A couple weeks ago I noticed that I ran into latency issues, meaning I would receive no incoming messages for 5 minutes, then I'd receive them all at once. Gradually the problem got so bad I have to restart Yahoo Messenger every 5-10 minutes.

Now, this problem does not affect web browsing, e-mail downloading, or any other web application. I checked my Networking under the Task Manager and it goes to 0% network utilization when Yahoo Messenger stops delivering messages. However if I then instruct my computer to visit "Tech Support Guy webpage" it loads instantly and my network utilization spikes up.

I also notice that Yahoo Messenger is taking over an increasing amount of memory - it is up to 50k memory usage according to Task Manager, whereas before it was around 20k.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it hasn't worked. Any other suggestions?

Oh and PS: Ran AntiVirus and didn't detect anything.

Hey everyone!
I want to choose between Yahoo messenger and MSN messenger. I know they can hold both MSN and Yahoo contacts. Please tell me which you think I should keep and why.

Thanks for your time!

A:Yahoo Messenger VS. MSN Messenger

personal opinion ... MSN messenger, but thats only because more people I know use it. I use Trillian to connect to yahoo, ICQ and AIM.

as a side note, I've been having a lot of trouble sending messages to contacts using yahoo from MSN (although theirs seem to get to me ok)

Hi, I hope I put this in the right place. Well, I was wondering if there was a way to read the "StoredIM"'s in the messenger folder? They are HST files and I'm not too sure what I can use to open those, so any help would be greatly appreciated

A:Yahoo Messenger

Open Yahoo Messenger
Go to Tools | Message Archive

Double click Messages in the left window
Click on your chosen archived message in the right pane to read

I have one screen name on my Y messenger that constantly logs in and out every couple of min's. It only does it with one screen name. I uninstalled from add/remove, deleted folder from program. Fresh re install. Ran spy boy most updated/ anti virus most updated. Googled similar problems. Someone said it could be the "add a buddy" exploit and to go to www.m.yahoo.com/messenger and log on that way and you would be able to take care of it there, but based on those instructions, I saw no add buddy request notifications. Does anyone know what this could be. If I change my messenger settings to firewalled with no proxies. It stops it, but it doesn't let me go into any yahoo chat. I also changed my password thinking that might help. It doesn't look as if anyone has actually hacked into my mail or anything. So I dont know what else to do. Please help. Thanks

A:Yahoo Messenger Please Help :)

I would recommend that you take a look at Pidgin, or Trillian. These are both multi-protocol IM programs that you can use. Check them both out and see what you like about either of them. You can go to chat rooms on them.

Cheers!

Try uninstalling Yahoo Messenger & re-installing, there may be an incompatability with Win 7 RC and the already loaded messenger.

Hope this helps

I am using Yahoo Messenger (BETA) 7.0.0.249. It, and previous versions of messenger had been running perfectly, but a few weeks ago and for no apparent reason, the offline messages I leave for my contacts, are not received. And yet, they are recorded as sent messages in my messenger archive. I've met with with no response to written requests for assistance from Yahoo. An uninstall/reinstall has not made the difference. Any words of wisdom for a fix would be very much appreciated. TIA

This problem started yesterday on YM, we were talking and I got this message that I could only post one message and have to receive a reply before posting another message. We both closed YM and re-opened, then her ID disappeared from the contact listing. Instead I got an invitation to connect on her name account. When I accepted the invitation, her user ID disappeared from my contact listing and her name for the account appeared. This happened to another friend on her list.

Now her name appears on my contact list, instead of her user ID . Tried to get an invite from her user ID but got message she was already on my list. when I checked the details, her name appears with her user ID in parenthesis.

How can I change it back to her user ID instead of her name.

Thanks
