I can't figure out whats wrong with comp, i need some help

Q: I can't figure out whats wrong with comp, i need some help

When I plug in my power supply (this is without pressing the power button on my case) all the fans in the computer turn on also the hard disk LED is on but the power LED is not. The light on the motherboard that says it has power turns on. Nothing else happens and I have no idea what is causing this problem.

I tested the power supply and everything there seems good.
I switched the processor and MB and I still get the same result
Also tried a different power supply and still got the same problem
When this problem first happened the processor that was in the computer got fried

I have no idea what is wrong, any help would be great.

Preferred Solution: I can't figure out whats wrong with comp, i need some help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: I can't figure out whats wrong with comp, i need some help

i think it's the motherboard

because mortherboard fried your CPU and might be causing this problems.

Hello cumbiamo and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It's clean. Let's use a different scanner to look a little deeper and if that doesn't show anything then we'll have you go over to the XP forum. I think it has more to do with the operating system than an infection.Download WinPFind35u.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind35u on your desktop.Note: You must be logged on to the system with an account that has Administrator privileges to run this program.Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind35U.exe to start the program. In the Drivers section click on Non-Microsoft.Under Additional Scans click the checkboxes in front of the following items to select them:Reg - BotCheck
Reg - Session Manager Settings
Reg - Software Policy Settings
File - Additional Folder Scans
Do not change any other settings. Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.Let it run unhindered until it finishes. When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.Use the Add Reply button and Copy/Paste the information back here. I will review it when it comes in. Hi TSG and before I start I want to say thanks for the help and possibility you people offer.

Anyway today I encountered a weird problem with my Desktop. Win7.

Ill describe it step by step. Booting windows does not seem like a problem. No errors or weird stuff and everything goes well.. I get my home screen and some services start running and programs start up. But i get the feeling half way that process it stops.. My PC does not freeze but a couple of things arent working. First my internetconnection is weird. (it is working tested it with laptop.) But the blueish circle keeps spinning as if its making a connection.

This goes on forever.. and when I try to open network and sharing centre to see what its doing it opens up the center BUT explorer seems to hang (only in that window). Cant close it anymore, cant move it and the inside of the window is just white.. as if its empty.

Second the windows notification thingie (issues and such) tells me my Windows firewall is turned off. (Using AVGFree) but not as a firewall. When I try to turn my firewall on using the notification thing it seems to do nothing. When I go to Control panel --> Windows Firewall the same thing happens with the network center.

I figured it was explorer so rebooted the pc disconnected power and such but didnt help. + i can freely browse my folders on PC.

When I try to start firefox it appears in taskmanager but it does not come up. Google chrome or IE does work..
I hope this makes any sense..

Hiya Asara,

You say AVG is your security program, However you still have Norton Internet Security installed, that very fact will give the problems you mention.

If you are no longer using NIS do the following:

Download and install the Norton removal tool from Here

Alternative link

Install and run the tool, follow any prompts that are given. Make sure you re-boot when finished. Let me know how you get on.

Well, we may not get a "one shot fix" here, but we will, at the very least, learn what is ahead in step 2.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box where it says ?Turn off System Restore?. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it?s clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Make sure to close any open browsers you have. Check and fix the following in HijackThis (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {63CF97E8-4133-438a-A831-CC9C6D47D673} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {4528BBE0-4E08-11D5-AD55-00010333D0AD} - (no file)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Yahoo! Messenger - {4528BBE0-4E08-11D5-AD55-00010333D0AD} - (no file)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: wbsys.dll
:weee:

Then please reboot back into normal mode and go here
and run the online virus scan. Please select the Autoclean option when prompted.

Then please reboot once more and post a new log.

today i was factory resetting my computer when it over heated in the middle and turned off when i turned it back on it freezes saying setup is starting services then a window pops up saying "windows could not finish configuring the system. to attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer."
i will love some help thanks

A:cant really figure out whats wrong

Generally, people do not reset PC to factory condition without a good reason. Might the reason(s) contributed to the failed reset?

Also, I had done a reset recently and one warning during the process was "the PC may be rebooted several times during the process". Did you inadvertently interrupt the process?

Finally, was there another attempt at reset? If so, did that fail?

First off I posted in this section cause I couldn't find a better section that met my problem's characteristics. And also I'm not computer-illiterate, I've got over 5 years of computer science classes under my belt.

Ok so my problem is that my desktop computer keeps losing internet... not in a all connection is lost and I have to restart the modem, more of a the internet randomly decides to slow to a crawl for a few seconds and the only way to fix it temporarily is to disable the network device in the Network Connections folder. But it keeps getting more and more frequent and its really driving me up a wall!

My setup is a network modem that I bought myself (After trying to replace the one cox gave me) a then connected to a linksys router, then a wire stray to the desktop.

I tried doing some troubleshooting to no avail. I tried cutting out the modem and doing a direct line from the modem to the desktop but I still got the same problem, and I know its not the router or the modem because my wireless items (especially my laptop) have no signs of this problem at all!

So all the only conclusions I could come to is that its either a hardware problem (IE somethings wrong with the Ethernet socket on my motherboard) or a software issue! But how can I truly find out what it is and finally fix this annoyance... ?

PLEASE HELP!

I hope this is the best place to put this. Something's been wrong with my computer lately... every time I scan with Norton Antivirus, it says I have an Adware file at

Sounds like virii and spyware to me.

Boot into Safe Mode With Networking, try to connect to the Internet. If you are successful, update your antivirus and spyware programs and run full scans. Get rid of whatever they find and reboot.

A:i Have HijackThis i just need to know whats wrong with my comp and how to fix it !!!

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

ok, my friend's computer suddenly stopped working. he told me that he smelled something burning, i told him it might be his power supply. turns out i was right [i put it in my computer and it didnt work]. so i got a new one for him, we put it in and nothing happens, except this green led on his mainboard lights up while the power's connected. what else could possibly be not working? is it the mainboard cuz when i was trying to remove the main power connector from the mainboard, it wouldn't come out and seemed to be stuck. eventually i got it, but it required pulling really hard, making the board bend a little.

would it just be better to replace the mainboard? it's slot1..i dont think they even make those anymore.

i'm not very good with technical stuff so hopefully someone on here will know what i am talking about.

Occasionally, my computer will lock up for about 2 seconds then give 4 beeps through my head set, 1 beep, a quieter one, another one with same tone as 2nd one, then another one with the same tone as the first.

I use an optical mouse and it goes into a USB port. occasionally it will turn off ranging from just a second or 2, too making me restart me computer for it to turn back on.

Random freezing have occured but it will restore to normal after about 3 seconds.

sometimes about once every 2-3 weeks, when i turn on my computer or restart it. my computer detects that a number of programs became corrupt and making me reinstall a lot of my stuff.

I'm not sure what is wrong, i scanned for viruses, and spyware, i didnt have either. i am completely clueless what is going on.. and i'm hoping someone here can reply whats wrong. if you need more info about my comp, just ask and tell me what too do etc.
Thanks

I've ran avast virus scanner, defraged several times, ran ad aware, ewido, spybot, xcleaner, did a harddrive check (fine), cleaned temporary files with disk cleanup, two different registry fix programs, installed zone alarm, ran their tests, cleaned the inside of the computer (not much dust in it), I've phoned my internet provider because i thought my internet was laggy, but i think its the computer, when i open itunes the computer mouse lags incredible and its like that with any program, it takes forever to load the webpages, but i think that has to do with my computer being laggy, I really have no idea what is wrong...When i try to play online games i lag out and cant play them at all....

A:out no where Bsod hoping to figure out whats wrong hoping it

Hi cowboy5345.

The crash dump is not pointing to anything clearly, but it gives a hint of a memory corruption. It either may be a failing physical RAM, or it may be some driver passing bad information toe the memory.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

If it does not show any error, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of en... Read more

Hello I am asking for help as we have tried all we know. Our laptop has been very slow logging on and getting on internet. Started by disk cleanup deleting old programs not being used defragging, and found a program file called "creative" from an old mp3 player software, cannot delete 1 file called shared--its CtCmeCtx.dll--all others seemed to be gone but access denied on this one. Also, tried to go in 'system config -startup- to stop some programs from startup and can't as warning says need admin rights! which of course we have.
Also getting a Norton File Insight on doscmd.dll--not sure what the heck thats about either. We have PCPandora monitor installed for a long time and had no problems, but I disabled recording to see if that did anything...nope.
Have the logs that were suggested but not sure if the GMER log worked as I think it just froze after 3 attempts of over 2 hours each try.
Hope someone can help me fix this

I built my own computer back in January and it ran perfect until a few months ago when I started randomly getting BSOD. my computer will crash when im playing games, music, browsing the wed and even idling. I tried reading the dump file but I don't really know how to read it. I thought it was a bad driver at first, but when I looked at the dump file I found this file name "ntkrnlmp.exe", so I googled it and found out that it could possibly be a hardware problem. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me if its a driver or a hardware problem and which driver or hardware is causing the problem. I attached all my dumps below.

Hi there guys.

I have a system with an older MOBO, I want to say ASROCK P55 Extreme.

I've recently set it up as a decent gaming rig with 16gb DDR3 RAM and a spare GTX 970 I had lying around and it works pretty damn great for most games or media creation software I work with from time to time.

However, I've had an issue lately where out of nowhere the sound will completely STOP on the system.
I haven't to my ability found any traces or sources of this error at all through Event Log, etc.

I am using the rear 3.5mm Headphone jack, which feeds to my Headphones and not a speaker setup.

A strange symptom that appears with this is web videos, such as on YouTube or Vimeo, will play in slow motion.
Video within VLC or Daum PotPlayer play normally but still do not have any audio.

The only fix I have found is a total system restart.
A few things I've tried:

Install and use Realtek Audio DriversDisable NVIDIA Audio Services and driversDo the opposite of the above, only using NVIDIA Drivers this timeReinstall Windows 10 from to a cleaned diskUpdates left and rightPicked through the Event Logs to look for cluesUninstall BOTH drivers from Device Manager and rebooted.

Hi,

My computer has this issue, that it reboots on a lot of occasions. These are the specs it currently has, its stable now:
mobo: ASRock 775i65G, VGA and sound are onboard
3GHz Intel CPU, i dont really know what model
512MB RAM, Vdata DDR400
19" LCD monitor, Acer
Logitech keyboard & mouse
2 HDDs, 180 GB each, both Maxtor

This way it runs ok, but onboard VGA is really insufficient for nearly everything.
When i insert 256MB nvidia geforce fx5500, it reboots before even booting windows.
When i insert 128MB Asus a9250 (brand new), it reboots when i run a game (any game i think, even older ones like WC3)

The same things still happen when i disengage one of the hard disks, so im quite confident theyre ok. I reinstalled Windows on both, didnt help.

However, when i run it with 128MB VGA and only half RAM (256MB), it does run properly. The mobo is new too, another one makes no difference. I really can't figure whats wrong, i replaced pretty much everything :dead:

Thanks a lot,
zenzei

I keep getting internet explorer running in the background and some sound file keeps playing. It pops up randomly through out the day and only goes away if i terminate the process. Also, I can't install AVG because there's some error that occurs while installing. I've attached a log of hijackthis. My computer keeps freezing from time to time and I have to turn it off and turn it back on for it to work.

My AVG shows up as:

Local machine: installation failed
Initialization:
Error: Checking of state of the item file link_All_Users_AVGUI failed.
Internal error. Value not evaluated.

I keep trying to attach the file but it keep showing up as an error. I'll just post it here then.

Spybot, AntiSpyware (Beta), Norton AV can't find anything wrong. I don't see anything suspicsious on HJ log, but I'm not an expert.

The problem is that when running FireFox, I get multiple popups from internet explorer although not even open. Mostly casino and e-pilot popups (annoying as hell). Also, the hour glass repeatly blinks next to the cursor, and its driving me nuts.

Someone who knows what they are doing (obviously not me), please help!

Here is my HJ log.

Hi...

Please download Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido Security Suite.
When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck: "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu"

To open the main screen double click the icon on the desktop.

You will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'.(only if no updated have first been installed) Click OK.

Update to the latest definition files. On the left of the main screen click Update. Then click on Start Update.Let it complete the updates.

Carry out this next part in Safe Mode

Now Click on Scanner and Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will start.

During some scans it may find cases of false positives so you will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.

If a file is detected you KNOW to be legitimate, select None as the action. Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'

If you are unsure of any entry found play safe and select None as the action.
Press the button marked Save Report

Save the report .txt file to your desktop or somewhere you can find it.Post it back with your next HJT log.

I'm wondering if the fact that AVG and Norton are both running at the same time is the problem.

2 anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause conflicts.

You also have ares which can leave a computer very vulnerable to infection.

I'm pretty sure that my computer has a virus but when I run a Certainantispyware it just removes the adware.  I've scanned my computer with other security programs but they don't seem to ever find anything.  My computer is SO slow, that I have to scan with a Certainantispyware before I can even get online to check my email or else I'd be sitting and waiting for it to load for what seems like a lifetime!!  And then I have to periodically stop doing whatever I'm trying to do to scan or else it will completely freeze up and crash!  I've defragmented, performed disk clean-up, and deleted all my cookies and browsing history.  I don't know what else I can do.  I'm running Windows XP on my little Acer Aspire One.  I'm not sure what info about my computer that you would need...   ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Per BC Advisor, I am posting this new topic: I'm having a lot of issues. I cannot sign into my user account and after approx 10min it did sign me in but a message popped up in a small window over a completely black screen stating that the tablet driver was not working. Everything I attempted to do took forever because the computer I so incredibly slow and 'laggy'. I switched to my admin account and I'm having the same error message and issues. When I hit ctrl-alt-del to get to task manager a windows 10 screen shows up with the dots that circle around and it says something about preparing security options. It only did it once on both my user account and admin, now it goes straight to task manager. I dont know if this is significant but it is something I have not seen before. I'm typing this on my phone because even typing takes several minutes! I'm concerned. When I go online, Firefox continuously says it is not responding any time I type or click on anything!I'm currently trying to download my documents to my external hard drive just in case. When I signed off my user account and only was logged into my admin. everything sped up.  I am not sure why I'm having these issues with my account, although in my former thread it was stated that my computer was clean, it was he that suggested to move a bit deeper. Here is my former thread with all the requested scans and logs:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611104/please-help-i-suspect-that-i-may-be-infec... Hello, the problem I'm having is that every few hours my TCP/IP protocol stops working. The modem lights remain normal but I can't connect to anything. The only thing that works on the internet is traceroutes at the command prompt which function normally. The solution is that I have to reboot and then everything returns to normal until a few hours later when it happens again. There are no error messages on any of my browsers. The page just goes white immediately. When I try to retrieve my email, I get a message about the TCP/IP isn't working. Any ideas? Any assistance much appreciated.

When I thought it was only lag in flash games that also caused the arrow keys to stick, when I connected to he network, I got a BSOD and it worked normally the second time around.

Can somebody help me figure out what is wrong?

I just edited this post because I realized I ran my scan with an older version of Hijack this. Here is the updated version and log.

I have a HP computer with window xp. Recently my computer has been getting worse and worse. It is constantly freezing up and also often comes us with messages saying there is not enough memory to complete the command. I also get error messages and other messages I don't understand. I have tried defragging the hard drive, ran a scan and repair hard drive all to no avail. I checked and have nearly 50% of the hard drive free.

Sometimes I just get a blue screen as well.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated during this holiday season. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Now my desktop wallpaper is "YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED!". Every time I start the computer, there is a pop up saying that I should run the anti-virus program and that my security risk is at 5 on a scale of 0-5. Also, I cannot access DDS and GMER. It says "Application cannot be executed. The file is infected. Please activate your antivirus software" every time I try to run it. The same happens for Malwarebytes.

A:Can someone figure out what is wrong?

Hello and welcome to TSF.

It's likely that the infection is preventing our tools from running. The following tool will help running them.

If you have an active internet connection, copy/paste the links below into your browser, don't click them or the rogue might redirect. If you don't have an active internet connection, download the tools from another machine, and transfer them to the affected machine via USB flash drive.

Please download and run the following tool to help allow other programs to run. (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com)

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one. You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Admin

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.com
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.scr
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.pif

Note: You will likely see a message from this rogue telling you the file is infected. Ignore the message. Leave the message OPEN, do not close the message. Run rkill repeatedly until it's able to do it's job. This may take a few tries. You'll be able to tell rkill has done it's job when your desktop (explorer.exe) cycles off and then on again.

At this point, you should now be able to run analysis tools.

Once the tool has run, do NOT reboot the machine, and then try once again... Read more

I came home from work the other day and discovered I was infected with all sorts of malware and viruses. I downloaded Avast! and after many pre-boot scans I thought I finally destroyed everything. I still get some strange random software issues though that Avast! isnt saying is anything of note.

In particular I've had a generic win32 application crash, and more frequently, microsoft development environment keeps opening and crashing randomly- the file mdm.exe seems to be it but nothing says that its a virus file or anything of the sort.

can someone help me out? im not sure what to think at this point. I'll gladly post whatever logs are needed.

thanks

For some reason today when I started booting up my laptop at work it keeps popping up with the BSOD with the following error code:
0x000000F4 (0x00000003,0x88945318,0x8994548c,0x805d1650)
This occurs repeatedly approximately 2 +/- 1 minutes after I get into Windows.

It didn't do this before, and nothing has changed (no installations or hardware changes) since yesterday. I did install Visual Studio Pro 2008 on Monday as well as a Intel(R) Fortran compiler, but neither of these caused any issues for all of Monday and Tuesday.

Here are the specs for the computer from dxdiag:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1 build 2600)
System Manufacturer: Dell
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS Plus V1.10 A17
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Dual CPU T5300 @ 1.73 Ghz (2CPUs)
Memory: 2046 RAM
Page file: 640MB used, 3299 available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c

Attached is a copy of the .dmp file from the windows/minidump dir.

Any help would be much appreciated.

A:BSOD-can't figure out what's wrong

Start by uninstalling the new software. Then try doing a System Restore to a time before this happened.
