Windows Live installation issue

Q: Windows Live installation issue

I've downloaded the Windows Live installer both as an exe and by the windows updater. When it installs i get the "unknown error" of

OnCatalogResult: 0x80072ee6

i've been on the windows website but it is not helpful at all. any help is appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Windows Live installation issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

WLM Lite is not an official Microsoft release. It is edited and patched by some 3rd party and contains a trojan as notified by ESET Nod32 Antivirus. You should not use it.

I would like to install Windows Live on Vista Business, Service Pack 1, and have obtained the only installer I could find from the official site. However, it installs to c: by default, and I see no options to change this setting. Since I use c: only for system files, I'd like to know if it's possible to manually install the program to another drive.

Sorry this might be a dumb question, but will my computer be ok if I opened live messenger and sent a few messges while windows update was being installed on full load on my HDD? I'm kinda worried it would cause some bugs or errors since there was lag when I was typing, opening windows etc wtih live messenger.

A:Using live messenger during windows update installation

Just personal opinion, and others may disagree. I prefer to let Windows Update and other "critical" operations like system images, creation of restore points, etc not have anything else going on in the background. Whenever system files are being accessed, read, or written to, I'd rather have all of my computer's resources concentrating on just that one task. But that's just me.

Not sure if normal discussion, non-question threads are allowed, but...

Seriously, Windows Live Essentials is such a hassle to install / uninstall / reinstall.

When I went to delete Messenger to attempt a re-install, it wasn't listed in add or remove programs, so then I had to go delete the folder in Program Files x86.

Then I had issues with the Windows Live Essentials thinking it was still installed. Even CCleaner wasn't enough to get rid of whatever it was tricking the installer into thinking it still existed.

In the end, it took a long time of browsing forums and so forth until I had to use third party tools to get it to work. People have had to develop their own dedicated tools for this specific problem.

Seriously, Microsoft, the creators of the Windows OS, and one of the most established companies in the world, should not have such crappy problems. I'm so annoyed that I actually had to rant somewhere about it.

But, for future reference, is there any more simple way of repairing MSN without going through all this again?

If anyone here knows anyone that has anything to do with the development of Live Messenger : Pass this info up. It's seriously a headache to deal with. I love the features of the programs themselves - the Essentials Antivirus is enough to protect anyone's computer (who won't download dumb crap) and messenger is good (except blocking people in nearly impossible now). It's just the installation that's so...crap, really. You shouldn't be nearly forced ... Read more

Downloaded Messenger 2011 onto my new computer recently; however, when I went to open it, it couldn't find the files it needed. Went searching for the program everywhere, nowhere to be found, not even on the Programs List. So, I decided, best thing to do would be to re-download it, but when the new installer opened, it said that the program was already installed, despite its apparent absence from the computer.
There is a similar problem with Adobe Flash - tried to re-download it, but it continues to believe it's on my system. Hopefully I explained the problem well :/

You might have some left over installation file information in your registry. Try running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and remove any old instances of Messenger and Visual Studios you find in the output list. Download the cleanup file and save. Then run as Administrator.

When I download and install Windows Live Email 2011 onto Windows 7 64bit, will the installation automatically
find and install the correct server designations? Will the app then be ready for immediate use or is there anything else I have to do?

A:Solved: Windows Live Mail 2011 Installation on Windows 7 64bit

Windows Live Mail 2012 is the most current version.

I personally use it with Windows 7 32-bit.

If I remember correctly, you need to enter the correct email settings for your Internet Service Provider(ISP) after it's installed.

After you download and save the wlsetup-web.exe file, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to run it.

Make sure to uncheck all the extras you don't want to install with the email app.

If you don't, you'll wind up with a computer full unnecessary apps.

If you're not sure how to install it and set it up, you need to have a computer-knowledgeable person help you.

Recently I had to re-install Vista on my machine. To my surprise even after installing 3 times update problems majorly 8024200D were there. So, I searched here n there on net including this forum but of no process worked. Hence, I decided to go for another installation. Here I will be discussing what I have observed:-

1) Installation : Something changed from Microsoft hence please install Vista as fresh and do not install any driver and/or application except LAN Drivers otherwise, you will face too many error messages during updates. Even after installing LAN driver you might get error# 80070103 but you may ignore this as this is only due to old drivers error.

2) Update : Keep updating your windows till it says no further update available. Please do not use internet except updating your windows otherwise your PC might get infected.

Surprisingly, Original Windows Vista DVD (without Sp1 or SP2) is of around 4GB and updates are of around 2GB and it will take minimum half a day to update your system 100% with good internet speed (minimum 2MBPS).

SP1 is of around 750MB and SP2 is of around 350MB and rest updates are of around 1GB+.

If you have to re-install your OS once or twice a year then you should make image of your system otherwise, updates gonna increase in future and you will be spending hell of the time in updations.

Hope this will help few members around Globe. Also, I would like to request Microsoft that they must provide single link updates so that we can ... Read more

Hello and welcome to the vista forums.

I am going to assume that you have the full version of winds. Since you have done 3 installs I would suggest doing one more but like this.
Clean Install with a Full Version of Vista

I would do a full scan with your AV...
Download and run a full scan from malwarebytes free version...

I would aslo do a sfc scan and here's how...
System Files - SFC Command
If the sfc comes back with problems then run the sfc 3 times, the sfc scan can fix many problems on your computer...

You might also want to do a CHKDSK on your system and her's how to do this one.
Check Disk - chkdsk

I have had Windows Live Messenger installed for a long time and I used to use it a lot, but not so much recently. Tonight I opened it up to try to contact someone and it opened fine, but the window included a message telling me that there was a newer version available and asked if I wanted to get the newer version. I clicked "yes" and an installation process began. I had a choice of things to install, but the only item I selected was Windows Live messenger. The process seemed to take longer than what I would have expected, but I patiently waited until it reached 100% installed. Unfortunately a message appeared telling me that it could not install Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Toolbar (which I had not asked for) and the installation was aborted. It gave an error number 0x80004004 for the Windows Live Messenger and for the Windows Live Toolbar it said it was unable to uninstall an older version of Windows Live Toolbar.

So I figured I would just keep using the version that I had, only that version no longer works. When I click on the icon for Windows Live Messenger I get a message saying that it cannot locate Windows Live Messeger.lnk.

So I went to "Add/Remove Programs" and tried to remove Windows Live Toolbar, but there I got a message saying that it could not find WLToolbar.msi. I then did a "Search" of my hard drive and the search results came up with nothing.

So then I went to www.microsoft.com, searched for Windows Live Messenger, ... Read more

A:Solved: Windows Live Messenger Installation Problem

I found an answer on another forum. I went to microsoft.com and downloaded a program named msicuu2.exe. When you install and run it, it displays a list of programs that have been successfully or unsuccessfully installed by a microsoft install program. You can then select one/all of those programs to remove. Although (at least in my case), it didn't really remove the software, it removed whatever it was that was keeping me from being able to install Windows Live Messenger. Everything is working fine now!

Probably not fixable but worth a try. In Windows Live Mail client, I have a hotmail account for the Live ID, sort of. When setting it up on the web, I thought the account name that shows in Windows Live Mail at the top right toolbar would look better as JohnDoe @ hotmail.com. I later noticed where on the Live Mail site that I would have to add the hotmail account to send and receive from the web site or so I thought. Anyway, I apparently added it as johndoe @ hotmail.com. Now when Windows Live Mail client launches, it starts out as JohnDoe @ hotmail.com in the top right toolbar corner and after a few hours it switches to johndoe @ hotmail.com. I can switch between the two ID's from within Windows Live Mail client but am now wondering where the two ID's are stored or is there a way to do away with one and keep the other?

Hello, I'm having a little issue with Windows Live Messenger.

all was fine, Windows Live Messenger signs in correctly and all but today whenever I click on the e-mail button to go to my hotmail inbox or click on that yellow message that says I have a new invitation internet explorer only opens the sign in page.

Before it would take me directly to my inbox or to my profile configuration to accept the invitations to join networks of my the contacts who added me to msn but now I only get that sign in page.

I noticed that the problem is only on my current account, I created a new one and on the new one msn takes me to my inbox correctly.

think it could be something related to internet explorer at user level? I mean, on the other account I created all is working right.

So any idea of what it could be the problem? it isn't on Windows Live Messenger level since I already did a full uninstall and I mean full by removing even registry keys, folders and all. and that didn't solved anything.

So I'm sure it has to be something internet explorer level

Hi, i have concern regarding a windows live id password login. I am able to login to either windows live mesh or my windows live messenger account using a password that i can enter in capitals or non captitals for example

"PassWord01" is the default password i gave it, however i can stil login with
"PASSWORD01" what i don't get is when you are creating an account for the first time it tells you to use upper/lower case letters to make a password, however in this case it doesn't seem to matter.

I also do have another wlm account and that one is case sensitive where i have to enter in the correct info as is. I would like to know is this a security issue here? if not why is that one account not case sensitive?

Sounds more like a Microsoft issue than a PC related issue. Passwords would be stored remotely on their servers and your configuration or settings wouldn't effect this.

Hello Nanny C, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums!

OE has a setting in its options that allow you to choose whether to delete an email from a "server" right after it has been received by OE, or wait a set number of days, or even wait until you have deleted the email from OE. It is possible then for OE to get the email and delete it before Live Mail gets a chance. So it would not appear in Live Mail. You might check this out in your settings?

Since there is no real way to contact Microsoft or the Windows Live team with out paying at least $100 an hour, I was hoping someone here could help me....

Up until about a week ago, I was receiving emails from a forum that I run, no problem. They dropped into my inbox like they should.

A week ago, roughly, they suddenly started going into my junk box.

I have added the email address to my safe list, as a contact, allowed the contact, and marked the emails as "not junk". I have also double checked and the email is both in my contacts and in my safe list. My safety options are set to allow safe senders.

Yet, no matter how many times I do this, the emails are still sent to my junk folder.

I am using Version 2009 (Build 14.8).

Hi guys/girls,
I'm having strange pop-up occurences since installing the above programs (it seems to have started then anyway) on both my computers. I don't know if it's partly due to having Google TaskBar AND Windows Live Toolbar both blocking pop-ups, but here are some of the symptoms:

a) those stupid casalamedia.fastclick *******s still get through as always (I hear *click click click click X10000* which I presume is the pop-ups rapid-firing at the blocker to overcome it?)

b) Many times when I click on a link it opens a new window, the header is blank, task bar button is blank, the footer says "Done." and the window CANNOT be closed unless ending the process of iexplore.exe in the Task Manager.

I've seen people write about blank pages coming up before, but no one has mentioned not being able to close them. I can surf normally even with these "ghost" taskbar buttons, but they just keep adding more below, and it seems to be random. I'm guessing it's some kind of script? This happens more on websites of, shall we say..."questionable integrity".

Thanks for any help!

A:Strange IE6 issue since Windows Live/Defender

Nobody? *shrug*

I'll add that while I thought it was mostly dodgy websites I was wrong; even when I'm on this site it does it sporadically, on Gmail.com as well...any site really. I can click a link, it does the blank page thing, I go back to the orginal page and click the same link and on the second try it's fine invariably. It makes a blank page about 1 time in 15-20 clicks.

I've been using WLM ver. 9 for many years, but some functions, like the "undo" arrow, ceased working. So I just installed WLM 12. Strange thing happened to the Contacts; not all, but 98% of my contacts appear 3 times. I.e., there are 2 duplicates for every contact. When I open the Contacts folder, only one address exists there for each contact.

While I COULD simply delete the 2 duplicates throughout the list, I run a small business on this computer and have ~600 addresses in Contacts. . . which is now ~1800. . . and I would have to delete 1200 of them. Sitting here for an hour or more doing that is not appealing

Another unexplainable thing: If I go to create a new e-mail and click "To:" to look up the name, the list that appears HAS NO DUPLICATES. I only see the duplicates if I click Contacts at the bottom left of the main WLM page. So why do they show there, but not when you go to select someone to put into the "To:" box?

Hello there techsupportforum!

Today I came across an issue and after 3 hours of googling and trying everything I still haven't found a solution.

The problem.
When I start up Windows Live Messenger (2011) and log in, until this point the program works.
But every 10 seconds or so a message pops up as follows:

This is ofcourse really annoying and I can't find a solution, can anyone help?

Things i've already tried:
- Reinstalling Windows Live Messenger
- Trying different versions, the issue persists
- Trying to replace the .dll file, but could not figure out how to get the rights to change it, I did not manage to delete/change it.
- Different registry check programs but they could not find a solution.

I just purchased a brand new PC with Win 7 from local store. I downloaded WLM from MS afterwards.

In WLM 2011, I created a first e-mail address and went all fine. Howeve my second e-mail address, it does not work, .... popping up 'password' in the middle of the screen and 'authorizing' at the bottom of the screen. I typed a right password just as I did on my first e-mail address.

On another PC with Win 7, both the first and second e-mail addresses work OK, never popping up 'password' in the middle of the screen.

Just wonder why a brand new PC/Win 7, .... Windows Live Mail 2011 refuses to accepp my second e-mail address?

Thanks for your help in advance.

maybe Micrososft wanted to make it more streamline, if you open the event you can see more of the info inside it if you put something in the body of that particular calender date

ok so I got windows live messenger version 8.1, and I wanted to send my friend who sent me a handwritten text a response, also handwritten. but I got an error telling me I needed to download the right software or update it.

so I checked the help section, and I downloaded the 2 things suggested there, the windows journal viewer 1.5 and update for it, and the 1 thing I didn't do was the update, wich it should do automatically, but it didn't say anything was ready, and also, I recently downloaded sp3 anyway.

the only other suggestion it gives is that the reciever needs to have a higher version of windows live too, but if she could send me the handwritten message, I should be able to send her aswell.

the only thing I can think of is maybe updating manually because I don't trust it, but how do I do this? or is there maybe another solution for this issue?

In windows live mail 2012 as is other mail programs I have a calendar. Whether or not I am logged in or not how do I incorporate a .ics file into this calendar? I read somewhere that wlm2012 will not allow this but I am not sure. What's the definitive answer. Thanks Vince

A:windows live mail 2012 issue

Hi vinman,

You may import an 'ICS file' with 'Windows Live Mail' only with 'Windows Live Calendar' on the web. To import it, open Sign In > Sign in with the same 'Live ID' that you use to sign in 'Windows Live Mail' > Import the 'ICS file' on the web (Your online calendars will automatically sync with your Windows Live Mail calendars).

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions.

My wife and I have been using WLM for email and Calendar for a number of years. We have a Laptop running Vista and a Desktop running Windows 7. We use this as an email client although we use Rogers Yahoo Email. Both email accounts (Dianne and Andrew) are set up as POP3 and are functioning properly. But the Calendar and Contacts which have been syncing between the 2 machines up until about 2 weeks ago are no longer doing so. When WLM is open and I sync on all email accounts there is no problem. But when I press Sync Everything an non-specified error occurs and the Calendar and Contacts are not syncing either with the other computer or the Outlook.com site account

This happened in mid August as well and I logged in to our Outlook.Com site account and reset the sharing permissions to Co-Owner and that seemed to immediately solve the problem.
I have tried the changing the same setting a number of times this past two weeks and have not had any success.

I do not think that this is machine specific because we can make a new Calendar Entry on the laptop and it does not appear at Outlook.com nor on the Desktop. Same for the reverse. A new entry in the Outlook.com Calendar does not update on either machine

Any suggestions?
Thank you

Hi Andrew,

If I make a calendar entry on any of my 2 pc's, I have to open the calendar tab on the other pc before it syncs.

For some time now, I have had some of my email recipients within a group not get the email. Does not seem to matter how large or small the group is. I have some with 35-40 names in them and some with only 8. When I was updating my lists the other day, I discovered that during the editing process some of the names that appeared on the list were NOT highlighted in blue, some where and some were not. So I clicked on them to again add them. I noticed when I did this, the highlight was only in a light blue when compared to the others who were already highlighted. Those names are in bright blue. But I figured as long it it was blue, it was ok. When I was done, I clicked save. Just to make sure, I went back into the editing mode to see if those I had re-added and saved were indeed highlighted. They weren't, even though again their names were on the general list in that group. Again those who were highlighted in bright blue were fine. The only ones not highlighted were those who's highlight was in light blue as I already mentioned. I tried to do it again several times and had the same result each time. My guess this is why some people in a group are not getting the email. Makes no sense to me why this is happening. When people in a group reported they never received an email others did, I talked to my local tech people and was told my internet provider did not allow more then 50 emails to be sent an hour per customer. At that time one of my groups had 70 people in it. So I ... Read more
