Preferred Solution: comp runs slow 2 open internet explorer or will not open at all

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi there.I was recently infected with Virtumonde, and posted this thread on Tech Support Guy for help. After following that user's instructions and apparently purging my system of the malware, Internet Explorer has started behaving strangely: sometimes when I click its icon no window appears. I can click it a number of times before I finally get a window, but then there are two or more iexplorer.exe processes running in Task Manager. Also, the invisible processes have half or less the memory usage of their normally-running windowed brothers (for example, 14,000k instead of 25,000k) - ostensibly because it isn't showing a window. These dead processes are also playing havoc when I shutdown Windows - they do not respond to the shutdown and instead pop up a 'Program Not Responding' window. This often leads to puzzlement and frustration after I've turned off my monitor and expected my computer to follow suit, as the 'Program Not Responding' window is waiting for my 'End Now' before it can.I have posted the above in the Tech Support Guy thread, but I thought it might speed things up if I had a second opinion from Bleeping Computer. Thanks in advance.

hello and to start off i'd like to thank anyone who takes time to read this and try to help me out, thank you.

I'm running win xp sp2.

On July 1st an infected file was downloaded and run. AVG and Winpatrol noticed this and prompted the user to take action. The user checked to block all changes that the infected file tried to make, and deleted the file. Then music started to come from the speakers. All kinds of completly random stuff that is not installed on the computer. In task manager there was a file "c.exe" after ending this process the music stopped and it never came back. I don't know if it is related, but the next day the computer started to have problems.

Gaim 99% of the time hangs and timeouts when trying to connect a screen name. I do not have a firewall and windows one is disabled.

To get firefox to work, i had to open the browser, it wouldnt appear on screen but the process showed in task manager. Then i used task manager to end the process tree. Then when i opened the browser it would open but run slowly. This no longer works. Now when i click to open it nothing happens and the process does not show up in task manager.

Internet explorer works fine and that is what i'm using to write this. The computer was also having this overall lag with everything i'd try to do on it. Ex: open the start menu, open folders, etc. However as of this last computer restart, not that i've done anything to fix it, the computer runs at normal spe... Read more

Hi.

My computer was working fine until I uninstalled AVG and installed my new Sky Broadband software and the free McAfee that came with it. After installing that I couldn't open internet explorer. I uninstalled the sky broadband software and kept the mcafee on, which actually comes up with messages saying its not working properly also. But no further luck.

Only way I can get on internet explorer most times is to go through google earth via the upload your own photos link.

Also when using msn if i try and view someones webcam or use my own it reboots my computer. Any thoughts as this is really bugging me now???

Hi, lately my laptop seems to take 20+ seconds to open IE 8. I've run a full scan and all OK. My anti virus is CA and I did update to a new version (Anti virus Plus) about 3 months ago.
I'm using wireless and I note there does not appear to be any activity between the laptop and the modem during this 'white screen' period.
Appreciate your comments and thanks.

I need some help. For about two weeks now, my Internet Explorer takes about 3 minutes to load. I have run spysweeper, Norton and even defragmented my hard drive to no avail. I had no viruses, had a few adware which i removed, cleaned my cache, and even tried changing the home page.

I am completely lost. Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas?
Thanks

A:Help! Internet Explorer very slow to open (IE 6)

1- Start Internet Explorer, click tools, internet options, then click delete cookies, delete files (check offline too) and clear history, one at a time.

2- Then click Start, programs, accessories, system tools, and then click Disk Cleanup and check ALL the boxes displayed (may take a couple min's).

An additional thing you may want to do:

Remnants of an installation or patch are stored by Windows as temporary files, which can prevent the re-installation or starting of programs. These temporary files are normally created to temporarily store information in order to free memory for other purposes, or to act as a safety net to prevent data loss when a program performs certain functions. These temporary files however can trick an installation program into thinking that the propgram is already installed, or that a patch is installed when the patch has not been applied properly. Because this can cause complications, it may become necessary to delete these remnants to give your system a clean slate prior to launching or installing a piece of software. To delete your Windows temporary files, click on the link below for the operating system you are running:

To delete your Windows temporary files on Windows XP:

First you will need to delete the standard Windows temporary files:

Click on the Start button.
Click Run.
Type temp into the available text field and click OK.
Click on one of the files in the folder that just opened, and press Ctrl and A to select all... Read more

I downloaded IE8 over IE8 RC1 and now have a problem that didn't exist in IE8 RC1. It takes about 3-4 seconds to get to the browser, then another 3-4 seconds before it will open my home page. This did not happen with IE8 RC1. I did a system restore to an earlier date, then uninstalled IE8 RC1 then re-installed IE8 but the same problem still exists. I also disabled all add-ons with no luck.
Another problem is I now receive "Internet Explorer has stopped working" every time I go to www.tsn.ca that worked fine until this update. Any suggestions?

Hey everyone. So my computer has been acting strange for a few of days now. I know about a week ago it got infected with Spy Sheriff (tricky little program) but I'm pretty sure I got it off. And I'm running Spybot right now and it's about half done and it hasn't found anything. As for the symptoms,1) I've been trying since I got infected with Spy Sheriff to run disk cleanup. And I know in the forum it said it could take minutes to hours but I ran it all last night (a total of approx. 10 hours I think) and it still doesn't go anywhere.2) My computer has been "freezing" alot. I'll only have two Internet programs open and they will both freeze, so I do the ctrl-alt-dlt thing and my CPU usage has gone from 3% to a 100% even though nothing has changed. And it's normally when I have something simple open like Yahoo and Google.3) The last time my computer "froze" I shut down the Internet window that wasn't responding and eventually the CPU usage went back down and I could use the other window again. But now I can't open another window of Internet Explorer at all. (which is why I'm doing this now. I'm going to try to restart my computer but it would be pretty tragic if I.E didn't open at all after that)I'm thinking more strange stuff has happened but now for the life of me I cant remember. Any ideas anyone? Oh and Im operating on Windows 2000 Professional.

What did you do or use to get rid of SpySheriff? Below is a link to instructions for removing SpySheriff. If you haven't run the Smitfraudfix I would suggest doing that. You probably have other infections, too. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/52345/how-to-remove-spyware-sheriff-and-antispylab/Also, install Super Antispyware. Run it in safe mode and let it remove whatever it finds.http://www.superantispyware.com/Please post back with what worked--what didn't

Hi,

I don't see anything suspicious here... When having problems like this, in most cases Security software is the cause. On some systems, certain Security applications just won't work properly. I see you are having Zonealarm and I have seen this issue with Zonealarm quite a lot.
Uninstall Zonealarm and let me know if that solved the problem.

I have a windows 7 msi laptop that until recently has had no issues.
The past several weeks however, Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly multiple times when I am online. Also, I cannot open PDF files and Adobe Reader will not reinstall. iTunes won't open, and pictures won't open when I double-click them.

No error messages have shown up...the programs simply just do not open. I have the latest version of iTunes, and I am unable to download any version of a PDF file reader, but I previously had Nuance.

I have NO CLUE what to do or how to begin trying to resolve this issue, and most of my work files are PDF so this is becoming a huge problem...please help.

A:Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly, Adobe Reader won't open, iTunes won't open....

Hello and welcome to TSF,
The first step would be to try a different browser and see if your online problems keeps happening. If you are a hardcore IE fan, see if there is an update for it. As far as your pictures and files are concerned, it might need a simple solution like Disk Defrag. Many people overlook this, but hey it works! You can also do a Disk Cleanup (also built into Windows) which clears some unnecessary junk.
Good Luck!

My computer is connected to a router, from there to an ADSL modem, and from there to the DSL line.

Everytime I open a new Internet Explorer (v.6.0) window, the lower-left corner has a message "detecting proxy settings" (or similar) and it hangs there for what seems an unecessarily long time (@ 5-10 seconds).

Is this normal behavior ? I would think that the "proxy settings" would have been detected and saved, so this delay shouldn't be happening.

Nothing has changed in this system for several months. I don't remember it happening before, but now that I have noticed it, it is becoming rather annoying.

Is there something that can be done ?

Thanks in advance,

George

A:Internet Explorer Slow to open Home Page

Could be a browser hijacker. Run Spybot S&D and Adaware SE, as well as Avast antivirus. See if those can clean away any browser hijackers.

Problem also affects control panel, my computer etc. When network disconnected windows open normally and, once IE is opened, internet can be accessed at normal speed by reconnecting the network cable.I've used adaware, spybot, yahoo anti-spy, housecall (which found some issues which I deleted), macafee (which reports on-access problems periodically which can't be cleaned, moved or deleted). Hi All,
I've been racking my brain trying to see what is going on and I cannot for the life of me figure it out. So I was hoping that someone on here might be able to help. Here's my situation. As I mentioned in the title something is going wrong with internet explorer and it opens in the task manager but is not open on the screen (although I do often see a little flash of something like a window popping up every now and then but only a flash then it's gone). Also I will click on normal links (like cnn.com after searching google for "cnn" and it will send me to some random website, usually trying to sell me something). Finally after some invesitgation it looks like there is a false iexplorer.exe file on my computer that got there somehow, and I think is causing issues. Oh and my windows firewall and symantec have been disabled. I have scanned with malwarebytes, adaware, spybot, and a few others with some each of them finding things but nothing has been fixed.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance,
-Duck

When I go into task manager, Processes, there will still be 4-6 "iexplorer.exe" processes open.

I don't want this. Why do they remain open after closing the browsers?

Is there a fix for this?

A:IE8: Multiple internet explorer processes open with one browser open

My computer (OS Windows XP Home) has been running rather slow and recently I have not been able to access any internet sites. I have successfully connected to more than one wireless network and had 100% signal strength. When opening internet explorer, my preset homepage has disappeared and internet explorer is attempting to connect to errordns.com in the lower left corner of the window. The address bar remains blank. The explorer window then continues to constantly connect to errordns.com as if I were clicking Go on the right side of the address bar numerous times and overwhelming internet explorer. I am not able to access anything else which requires an internet connection, such as limewire or my AIM icon. I have attempted to change my homepage address in the internet connections options but the same repeating connection to errordns.com occurs. I do not have an up-to-date antivirus system currently. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Please do not edit the logs, though I'm sure you meant well. To rid yourself of those O18 entries, you can uninstall Logitech's Desktop Messenger. It's not really necessary.

From their site:

Quote:

If you choose to disable to uninstall the Logitech Desktop Messenger you will not receive any messages about updates to your products. However we will be posting on in the downloads sections of the Logitech site. So if you choose to monitor the Logitech website as an alternative, you will be able to access the latest updates.

Click the Windows 'Start' button > Select 'Run' - then copy/paste this into the run box & click OK

Hi everybody

I picked up some nasty malware. AVG was updating and suddenly everything just fell apart.

I can't run any installation programs regardless of the extension or name. I've tried to install Rkill and MalwareBytes with absolutely no luck. It defaults to needing to be unblocked in the properties and no matter what compatibility mode I use it will not run. I get a 1084 error when I try to open the security center. In the taskbar I have an Action Center alert that says 1 Important Message and 3 Total Messages. The Action Center will not open at all. I do not have access to a USB key as I am not home, but I will be Tuesday evening. Any help would be infinitely appreciated.

Other notes I forgot: I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and I am constantly getting errors that Windows can't load and needs to be repaired. It runs and restarts, sometimes being repaired and other times not.

Thanks a lot
Jared

A:Action center won't open, Internel Explorer only browser that will open, no MalwareBytes and RKill will not open

An update.

I've tried running MalwareBytes and RKill from a flash drive which is also not working. Windows also ends up unable to load, the startup repair runs and things work fine. Not long after Windows tries to update and then it becomes unable to load again and the startup repair runs again.

I tried running a registry fix for the .exe problem and I get an error stating that the registry is being used even when no programs are running and I am in safe mode.

Hope this information helps
thanks
Jared

I am having issues with a computer running Windows XP that has in the past had a variety of malware removed with Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. I have Avast Antivirus installed, but it returns an error when it tries to do an update.

For the past week or so, something's been on my computer and wreaking havoc. I'm running Windows XP.

Symptoms:

1) Lots of pop-ups (mostly for registry cleaners or spyware software). This seems to get worse with each day that goes by.
2) A number of large websites have stopped working for me (www.mlb.com, www.sears.com, www.walmart.com)
3) I can download, but cannot install any anti-spyware software (Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Ad-Aware). When I attempt to run the .exe file I downloaded, I get one of two error messages: (1) "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program.", or (2) "C:\xxxxxx is not a valid Win32 application." I have tried downloading each of these files from multiple sources, but the result is always the same when I go to install.
4) The computer is running extremely slow (especially the internet)

I have noticed two files using HJT that, through google, I noticed were common problems for others. (C:\Windows\system32\gutodayo.dll, and C:\Windows\system32\moyomego.dll (there are a few instances of this last file)).

I was able to download and install Spyware Terminator (had good reviews on download.cnet.com, though not sure how effective it really is) and run it's scan, but it didn't find any real threats, and the small things it had me fix didn't solve any problems. I just found out another detail for you.

In the IE windows that are already open, when I click on a link that opens a new window on it's on...it works.

The only problem is when I try to manually open a new one myself. So, right now, I'm rather afraid to close all of the IE windows currently open and to restart my computer.

So my computer was working as good as ever 2 days ago, until for whatever reason its slowed to a crawl. I was in the middle of browsing the web when my comp became unresponsive. Its gotten progressively worse since trying to diagnose the problem. Its now taking forever to start up and I only get about a 15 second window of being able to open applications etc. before it gives up.

What I've tried:Run Avast anti virus scan (clean)
Run Malwarebytes scan (clean)

Hi, my comp has several problems. It is very slow and it's very slow when i open things or freezes when i open things. So I ran a couple programs, like the AVG antivirus scanner, Ad-Aware, Advanced System Care Optimizer and they said i had alot of viruses, so I tried to remove as much as i could, but some still can't be removed, like some trojans, etc.

A:Internet Explorer Runs Incredibly Slow

Hey, it seems to be a "Vista" thing if you know what I mean. I too have the same problem at least once a week. I have to reboot my computer and that takes care of it untill about 4 or 5 days later. Usually what happens right before that, Vista will drop my wireless connection and refuse to reconnect to the router unless I restart my computer.

I haven't heard or seen anything on Microsofts website that states that they are going to do anything about it.. I'll keep you posted if something does come up. I hope that helps you out.

I recently updated to INternet Explorer 7 but even before that my internet browser is running really slow. Whenever I type anything within the browser, or if I am typing in another program while internet explorer is on, the letters will take a while before showing up. Sometimes the homepage will freeze and I have to end the program and start it again just to repeat the process again and again. Everything else in my computer is running fast except when I click on the web browser and the computer slows down.
This is my work computer by the way. OS is XP, processor pentium4 2.39 ghz, 512mb ram, 40gb hard drive. 24 gb free.

thanks

I have an older laptop with an Intel processor and 4GB of RAM running Vista.

I am having issues which seem mainly to be in Internet Explorer and to a lesser extent in other programs as well. There are times when going into Windwos Mail that I get a message at the top of the page that says not responding and then 15-20 seconds later it starts working again. I select an e-mail and again get a not responding message and it takes several seconds to display the e-mail. That also happens in Excel and Word but not as frequently. Almost every page I open in IE I either get a blank page with a message at the bottom that says yahoo.com is not responding or techsupportforum.com is not responding etc and on the right side it says recover. If you leave it the page will usually or at least often display but it takes way longer to load that what it should. Other times the page will seemingly load but as soon as you try to move the scroll bar down on the right you get the same message and the little circle on the tab keeps going around and around. Sometimes they complete loading and work after quite some time and other times you get a message that a long script is causing it to run slow or something to that affect and you are given the option to stop the script. I should have written down these messages as the above is not verbatim. I did run Microsoft's Fix It and it did seem to improve it to some degree but it is still not running the way it should or did. The other sign that something ... Read more

Hello, whenever I go to open my Explorer folder or if I haven't opened it in a while it is very slow to open. Takes maybe 5-10s to open up when normally it used to be instant.

This is the folder I am talking about if there are any confusion: View image: Explorer

A:Explorer Folder is Slow to Open

Ok, lets take it by the numbers.

In order for that folder to open, your request has to be put into the Request Que and the OS has to schedule it with the other programs also wanting access to the CPU. Multi tasking is a complete misnomer......
Your CPU can actually only do one thing at a time. (Have you told Windows to use all your CPU cores?) Most users never do!!!

So it's slow.....what's new? That's the way it will work, till you Minimize the number of things that your CPU is doing at any one moment in time. Have you disabled all your redundant TSR's? Those are the things in your Startup Folder, that run in the background all the time, every time you boot up. Shut off everything in that folder (run, MSCONFIG > Startup (or Task Manager, in win 8) ) that you absolutely don't have to have running every time you boot up.

Anyway, once you delete or disable all the peripheral BS running in the background, your Explorer will open like it used to.
I do this stuff for a living, so I know what works.
Oh by the Way, you also have at least 20 or more Redundant Services running in the background, that you could either totally disable or at least put into "Manual" mode. I've done all this and my computer (8 years old, now) runs like a scalded cat!!!
(Faster than any new computer today, right out of the box)

New computers, today, right out of the box, run at about 30 to 40 % efficiency. It's up to the SETUP technician or the user to make them run like they re... Read more

By stopping "opwareSE2.exe" from running, problem appeares to be fixed. What is the task of this file? What are the side effects of stopping it? How do I remove it from start-up?

A:I/net Explorer & Favourites very slow to open

It is part of ScanSoft software. It likely came with your scanner and is part of the Optical Character Recognition function. It does not need to be running unless you are scanning but a virus or spyware can be named anything so you should do a good scan of your system. See this page: http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/opwarese2/

I had AV8. I have since installed PC Tools Spyware Doctor and Registry Mechanic. I have run both and I thought all the virus was gone. Strange things continue to happen occasionally. One is that my windows explorer sometimes will not open. I eventually have to power my laptop off in order to get out of that hangup. I know this is not good. How can I find out what the problem is? Thanks.

A:Windows Explorer Slow to Open or Not at All

1) You should NEVER use any registry cleaners or utilities. NEVER.
2) Nothing you said you ran would have anything to do with ridding your system of a virus
3) If I were you I'd post in the malware forum on this site.
