Internet Explorer 8 keeps showing restore last session?

Q: Internet Explorer 8 keeps showing restore last session?

I have a problem with IE8...

It keeps showing the "restore last browsing session" window when i start it sometimes.

I have tried to turn it off in group policy editor and use the registry.

Neither have worked - it still keeps coming up.

any ideas?

Thank you

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer 8 keeps showing restore last session?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you never use IE why don't you just uninstall it and I'm sure the problem will go away.

In internet explorer when i open it up and restore my last session it opens up many windows, including my last session, a session i may have had 2 weeks ago and other sessions?

A:Internet explorer last browsing session opens up many session points!

I believe this is the explanation of why this happens....

The behavior of Internet Explorer only remembering the very last window closed is by design.
This happens because each new window becomes a new session.
Internet Explorer is designed to remember the last, not necessarily the most important, window/session that was open.

it seems firefox cannot tell the difference between a crash, or if you just have the browser open while shutting down/rebooting

apparently this is a bug, but im just curious.. is there anyway for the restore session option to still be available if theres a crash, but for the message to not come up if the browsers open and you shutdown/reboot?

A:firefox restore session/start new session

That is a bug that has been entered into the bug report that may or may not be corrected in the future. As it stands now, Firefox can't distinguish between a crash and an unexpected closure.
The only options that I know for now is to type about:config in the address bar of Firefox and hit Enter. Go to browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash and set it to false
This will disable the restore session.
You could try this to disable the message, but it will always be disabled until you remove the preference.
Go into about:config and Right-click in the list and select New> String.
Enter browser.sessionstore.restore_prompt_uri as the pref's name.
Enter javascript:window.close(); as the pref's value.
Close Firefox and the message shouldn't appear. If it doesn't work, just delete the preference.

I am running Win 7 Pro x64 and just upgraded from IE 10 to IE 11. I like the latest version 11, but it has a problem of some kind that frequently causes it to fail to close cleanly when I exit a browser session. When I click on the Close link (the X) or otherwise exit, the browser shuts down but I get an error window that says:

"Internet Explorer has stopped working.
"A problem cause the program to stop working correctly.
"Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

I then must click on a Cancel button to get the browser closed, otherwise the screen is just frozen. This is not really preventing any further activity, it does close the error window and everything then is normal. But it is annoying. Does anybody know of a cure for this problem **other than revertinbg back to IE10**? (I like IE11 well enough that I can live with it if no fix is available, IE 11 works much faster and easier).

it appears windows explorer has been hijacked. browsing to C:\ shows no files. opened a command prompt and started poking around I can get to different directories, but they all show empty. my desktop for example had probably 15 files on it before I got the virus. opening that directory in windows explorer shows an empty directory. running a 'dir' on the directory in a command prompt shows it's empty too. Opening the start menu everything is blank except a fake system restore application. internet explorer had been hijacked to. it's redirecting all google searches. I've booted into safe mode with networking and I can run rkill then ran malware bytes. malware bytes found some stuff and removed it but I'm still having this issue. I attached the malware bytes log to this issue too.

I used system Restore to roll back Windows to 8/28/2014 to try to solve another problem (mouse freezes) and finally solved the problem with a different mouse, which installed a different driver. Problem coudl have been the mouse, the driver or both. But Firefox had lost all of its tabs.
I then rolled windows forward to the latest update, Firefox only gave me the "Well, this is embarrassing" dialog box,, and I was able to restore the tabs.
I think that the problem is that a Firefox update was making Firefox incompatible with its older sessionstore file, or something like that. Anyway, it works now.

I pulled the plug for my PC by mistake when I was sorting something out and I had firefox running with 3 windows opened. I switched it back on and restarted firefox. The session restore tab appeared this all my windows listed and checked, but when I hit restore only 1 was restored.

This has happened to me before on firefox 3.6, all I did was exit and start firefox again and the other windows showed up. But that didn't work on firefox 14.

I've managed to restore the sessionstore.js file to a previous version. When I restarted firefox 5 windows were listed in session restore but I could only view the tabs on 2 of them (why?). Clicked on restore and only those 2 windows appeared.

Is there any way I can recover the other 3?

A:Firefox won't restore all my windows in session restore.

Recently many of the sites that I visit have the empty box with a small red X in it in place for images. At first I thought it was just the site but now it's happening on almost all sites that have a lot of images. I usually have to refresh the page three or four times before they all show up properly. It doesn't to seem to be any specific type of image I cant view. It happens with both JPEGs and GIFs.

So then I thought that it could possibly be my firewall. So I disabled it and refreshed the page again but that didn't work. So I decided to come here and get some help if possible. It is getting very frustrating.

I have been creating a website on my local machine and then viewing it in IE 7. All of the js used to work fine until randomly it no longer works. It's always given me the annoying little bar at the top that says IE blocked some scripts from running but I always used to just tell it to run them anyway and it would work. Now all of a sudden that doesn't work and infact nothing regarding js on the page works. Not even some of the simple text link effects such as bolding on click.

I have tried:
- Reinstalling IE 7
- The website in IE on other computers and it works fine
- Setting the security settings in IE to as low as possible and also just default
- Adding the tag: <!-- saved from url=(0014)about:internet --> to the page
- Other browsers on this computer and it worked fine
- Set all settings in IE back to default settings
- Googling for hours

Thanks in advance!

I have a windows vista premimum loaded laptop with internet explorer 8 installed. Everything was working fine up to a point when i had to reset the internet explorer settings to its default.

Prior to the reset, I was able to add favorites and view the favorites in my address bar asi begin to type the letters. But after the reset, this behaviour stopped.

I have tried the autocomplete path. The address bar and the favorites check box are ticked under tools > options > content > settings. I un-checked clicked ok and checked back again, just to make sure that it gets reset in the registry. But still I cannot get the favorites to display in address bar as I type.

This happened before and I followed a registry tweak which corrected the behavoiur. Unfortunately I cannot find the link anymore and I did not add it to favorite !!. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

A:[SOLVED] Internet Explorer Favorites not showing up !!

Ok, Looks like either no has a solution or no one has bothered to reply. Anyways, for the benefit of others who might have faced the same problem, find below the solution that I figured out.

In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Content.
Click Settings under Auto Complete
Make sure Address Bar is ticked and so is Favorite.
But most importantly, make sure that "Use Windows Search for better results" is un-ticked.

Click OK and OK again.

Now you will be able to see favourites appearing in the address bar.

Thanks for viewing.

Hello all.
First time here and probably not the last on account of Murphy's Law.
My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (x64).
I installed IE11 with no problems.
Once completed, I rebooted but could not locate the IE desktop icon.
Inspected the Internet Explorer folder. All files seem to be there including the .exe file. After clicking on this IE11 .exe file, nothing happened.
Checked the Control Panel to ensure IE11 was in fact installed and that it was "activated." All in order.
This is a mystery as I have used previous versions of IE without any problems.
Any attempts, to resolve this glitch, will be appreciated greatly. Cheers.

Ok, this question has been asked around many corners of the Internet and these forums and I haven't found a "real" answer so I'm asking it again and hopefully seeking a final resolution to the problem.

When "Protected Mode" is turned On, users are unable to view some folders in the file upload dialog that they can normally view (e.g. under Documents, Pictures, etc.).When viewing the same folders in Explorer running as the same user as the Internet Explorer instance, the missing folders are viewable.Launching Internet Explorer "as an administrator" allows the user to view the missing folders (but this is not recommended due to security concerns).
So far, the workaround that I found was to either run some crazy tool from BleepingComputer called Unhide that resets everything on your system -- this is the sledge hammer-to-thumbtack approach.  Another one was to go into Organize > Folder and
search options > View and uncheck the hide options and select the show radio option.  The last one was to search for the folder in the file upload dialog, right-click the folder, and uncheck Hidden.
None of these, IMHO, are valid solutions to the real problem which is that something is special about this folder that is causing IE in Protected Mode to treat the file as Hidden.
The last "workaround" seems to indicate that the "hidden" file attribute is set for the file, but this doesn't app... Read more

I seem to have an issue that I can't seem to find a similar forum or solution for.
Windows 8 clients on our network connecting to networked printers on a 2012 print server. Normally they talk to the printers perfectly. However, *after a remote desktop session to a client machine*, the printer shows as offline and the print spooler
needs restarting for the printer to show as online again.
Now, while this is a workaround, I'd love to know of a fix. Most of our users are not local admins on their machines, so restarting the spooler isn't normally an option unless I do it for them.
Does anyone have any advice on the above?

A:Client Networked printers showing offline after remote desktop session

For this issue, we can try following steps:

First give yourself ownership and full access to c:\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe

1.       Start Search > services.msc

Is there a way to edit this feature? Sometimes its GREAT when my computer freezes up on me when i am doing something but other times its bad, when i turn the computer off after looking at presents for my girlfriend for example. It dosnt seem to matter if i close out the browser or not, it will still ask if i want to restore the last session. Most times i click new session so i would like to turn the feature off..

A:restore session in FF2 [RESOLVED]

Try this:

* Type: about:config in the Address Bar and press Enter.
* Right-click on the list of entries.
* Select 'New' from the menu.
* Select 'Boolean'.
* In the 'Preference name' field type: browser.sessionstore.enabled and click OK.
* To disable the function, the value should be 'False'.
* Click OK

Hi there!

I accidentally closed Firefox without restoring my session. It first crashed due to a forced restart of the computer, and upon next start it asked me if I wanted to restore the previous session but I closed the damn window. So the next time I launched it I didn't get the same question again. Is there any way of restoring that session now or is it gone forever? Can I tell Firefox to ask me again somehow?

I tried installing Session Manager. But it was no use, because it looks like it cannot restore sessions that were before it was installed. So if I had Session Manager installed when this happened, this would be no brainer. But since I installed it afterwards it seems useless.

Any ideas?...

Why is it that you can't restore sessions on your own will in Firefox, whenever you feel like it? You know, not just when something like a crash occurs?...

A:How do you restore a session in Firefox?

Before they got overwritten, I managed to grab the sessionstore.js files from the following location:

%appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random characters>.default

Yes, there was more than one file;

I found this tip on the CNET forum:

They say that you can copy and paste URLs into the browser from these files if you open them in a text editor. But my files are massive! They are 16.9 KB, 3.63 MB, 4.57 MB and 4.77 MB accordingly. I think they contain well over 100 tabs (website URLs)! The first one without a number suffix is just the current file in use, I believe. The big ones seem to be the ones I'm after.

Do I really have to copy and paste over to Firefox 100 times?... my arm will fall out of its socket!

Besides, I managed to crash the otherwise very stable and quick editor, the Notepad++ editor, after opening and scrolling through seemingly endless number of lines.

Is there really no other way around this?...

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I'm not a temp files lover but I believe,
Computer/ Local disk C/ Users/ Users name/ AppData "a hidden folder"/ Local/ Microsoft/ Internet Explorer/ Recovery
Once a session has been past so to speak the files are just moved to AppData/ Temp folder along with all other temp files,
Purely a guess,

I have audio ads randomly playing in the background, and Internet Explorer is sometimes open (from 1 to 3 copies) in the Task manager. By opening up the Sound Mixer, I noticed that the sound comes from Internet explorer. Sometimes, the name of the Internet Explorer program in the Task manager changes really quickly, and sometimes it stays for a long times on the same website (mostly www.quackit.com or www.pinkmoney.com). Sometimes, I can end Internet Explorer with the "End Task" button, but other times, I have to go to the process and kill it. Sometimes, an hour goes by without a single problem, but sometimes the ads are just a minute apart. Strangely enough, they're in French (my language).
My computer is also slower in general, especially Firefox.
I tried following the instructions in this post, as the problem was quite similar to mine, but to no avail.

I tried to run DDS to capture my logs; but my computer has been acting as if it is opening them for 15 minutes now, and the program is now not coming up.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.

Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. This happened about 2 days ago, i installed and started Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. After scan finished and threats(babylon toolbar and other malware, of which many were more or less; closely connected to internet in general) placed in quarantine, i closed program. Afterwards, "last time session displaying" problem appeared

"show my windows and tabs from last time" change itself back to "show my home page" automatically every time i restart firefox so session restore don't work, i only get my home page on restart.

I've set the options to be "Show windows and tabs from last time" and in the Privacy setting, I have "Firefox will remember history", also i reset browser.sessionstore* preferences as showed in snapshot below... Still every time firefox restart >>tools/options/general/startup/when firefox starts<< changes back to home page.

I'm on Windows XP, firefox 35.0.1, firewall Avast,...

What are my options here?...

For the past 3 or 4 days, XP on my Toshiba Satellite has been crashing frequently, flashing a blue screen, and restarting. The blue screen is never up long enough to read, and after the system restarts Firefox won't restore my session--it starts a new session, which is a serious pain in the butt. The crashes don't seem to be related to anything I'm doing. Help?

A:XP crashing , Firefox won't restore session

When your browser frequently crashes usually it is the result of an add-on.

Try disabling all addons in firefox and then slowly re-adding them one by one until you find which one is causing the problems.

This could easily be malware or an infection so if I were you I'd open a thread in the am i infected forum

Go in the System Properties | Advanced | Startup and Recovery and change
the option to have the computer Automatically restart on system failure,
configure it to halt on the BSOD then post the contents of the BSOD to
your next post.

Frequently over the last few days(though not today yet), when I open Firefox it tells me it didn't previously close properly and asks if I want to restore the session. But I haven't been having browser crashes. Sometimes I exit with multiple tabs open, which I click yes to closing them all, and sometimes I exit with just the one page open. It seems to happen in both instances, though not always.

I'm running Firefox

I always exit by clicking on the 'X' in the top right of the window.

Is it possible that I'm not remembering to close Firefox when I reboot after an install or settings change, and this is why it tells me is wasn't closed properly?

A:Firefox Session Restore After Clean Exit

If you do not close Ff, but simply reboot (for whatever reason), you will get that message. If you are absolutely sure you have closed Ff each time this has happened, then delete Ff and reinstall it. Since there apparently is no consistency in the problem, it is most likely your forgetting that is the cause.Regards,John

This is the message often showing on the bottom of Internet Explorer 9 on someone elses computer.  The user will open Internet Explorer, use it for some time, and close it.  He is done with what he needed; but either when IE is opened again, it will show that message Or IE will open on its own after being closed and will show the message:  Last browsing session closed unexpectedly. Retore?
How do we know what to look for?  How do we know what to investigate?
That computer with IE 9 is with Windows 7, brand is Hewlett-Packard.
Additional information - I do not know if this helps any, but I often use a couple of portable internet browsers on usb flash drive with that same machine and have no problems.

A:I.E. 9, Last browsing session closed unexpectedly. Restore?

Try clearing your IE cache files - cookies, history, temp.files.  The unexpected error usually comes from the computer suddenly restarted or shutdown due to power loss or thermal events. Atleast IME, this is how this error comes about so it is somehow normal that the message would ask you to restore the last browsing session. If it comes on every normal bootups, then its kind a different problem you are facing. But try clearing the cache files and check the difference.
