Solved: Brother 2070N is not found on my network

Q: Solved: Brother 2070N is not found on my network

I have a Brother 2070N printer connected to a D-Link DI-624 router. I use three laptops on the network, two Vista SP1 and an XP SP3. I have had no problems prior to this. Now none of my PCs can connect to the printer. The printer's ready light comes on, but goes off after a few minutes. I have tried resetting to the default settings (which I thought I was already using.) I was able to print a set of "printer settings" pages. The IP addresses match what I have set in the printer properties of each PC. I am at a loss. Any ideas? How about starting over completely? I'm not sure where else to go with this.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I network an XP box and a 98 box via Ethernet. The two also share a DSL connection via a Zoom modem with a built-in router (5651_X4_2_2). The router connects to a Linksys switch (EtherFast 10/100 5-Port Workgroup Switch EZXS55W). The switch has SIX ports: five used (Zoom router patch, XP patch, 98 crossover, 98 patch, Brother patch) and one unused labeled "uplink" (not sure what uplink is - not important, is it?).

I've attempted multiple times using Brother's software to configure a Peer-to-Peer printer via the XP box but the printer is not recognized on my network. USB config as Network Printer was a breeze but want Peer-to-Peer so I don't have to turn on XP box to print 98 box docs.

Brother's tech support was scripted as expected and wasn't of much assistance. One suggested there is an IP address conflict.

I'm at wit's end and now turn to you guys. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi There,
I am having problems configuring my Brother MFC-7860DW printer on my home network.
I have connected the printer via ethernet to my home wireless router. I assumed it would pick up a DHCP address from my router but it didn't. When I ran a configuration page, it gave me a 169.x.x.x address. So I manually configured a static IP with the appropriate subnet mask and tried to print from my vista printer, however it failed to print. I tried to ping the printer with the assigned static IP and it said "destination host unreachable". I've re-set printer and turned it off/on and also rebooted the wireless router. Still same thing. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the printer itself? I also have tested the ethernet cable with a laptop and it is working. I even tried adding a static IP reservation in the web admin page of the wireless router.
I'm kinda stuck. Any ideas? Pls help.

[Amazon] Brother Printer MFCJ450DW
[Brother USA] Brother MFC-J450DW

Here's what happened. My family and I are looking for a new printer, and we're tired of being scammed by either cheap pieces of crap that don't last a year, or reliable printers with proprietary and/or expensive ink replacements. We initially set out to find a laser printer, and I found a really nice one, but it was monochrome. I am the only one who was fine with it. Everyone else said "COLOR ONLY!" pretty much unanimously.

That quickly ruled out laser printers, since I found it impossible to find a reliable, color laser printer with low operating costs within our measly budget of $200. I'm the only tech-minded person in the family, and I just can't get anyone on board with the idea of buying a more expensive and reliable product up front for years of savings down the line. That puts me in a very tight spot.

I eventually found these Brother Work Smart All-in-ones, and they have some of the highest reviews on Amazon. We chose the MFC-J870DW over the MFC-J450DW simply because it is the "higher model" and they're the same price on Amazon. However, I noticed this morning that they are so similar, and we were looking at both of them, that I accidentally purchased the MFC-J450DW instead.

We all literally could not care... Read more

Here I go again. I asked this before and the problem was solved. However I installed a new and upgraded mobo and cpu. The printer will not install now. For general safety I reinstalled W10 and all my programs. I downloaded and ran the Brother drivers setup.exe. All I get is "machine not found". This is so even though after running setup.exe the Brother mfc-j895dw printer appears in Devices and Printers each time I attempt the install though I remove that device each time. I even tried the previously failed cd install just in case but it still fails. Setup.exe runs and decompresses all the files into a folder Install which contains setup.exe. I deleted that folder and the driver download and tried running setup several times to no avail. I deleted the downloaded file, the Install folder, and the printer from Devices and Printers before attempting each reinstall. I disconnect the Brother from everything before starting setup and only reconnect it when installation says to reconnect. I also set the printer as the default printer each time to no avail.

Does anyone know of a good, cheap, Big Brother type program that runs over a network?

I currently use RemoteAnywhere and like it's features except for the fact that the user can easily tell if I'm watching and they can see it running and can use the S.O.S function to annoy other users on the network.

I have also tried the Big Brother program but it slowed the network down too much. Does anyone know of any good programs that fit this description. Also, this will be used in a school environment so one with educational functionality would be handy as well, such as allowing the teacher to show a student what they are doing on their computer.

So I reinstalled the drivers and on the installation it detects the printer fine but same issue after install. So I decide to try the scanner and it works fine.... Im not one to use faxes so i didnt try that but im assuming the printer alone is the issue so any tips on how to fix it?

Hi, my brother has been having some problems staying connected to my HDD through a wireless network. My HDD has loads of videos and music files and i thought it would be best to share them and not continuesly burn them to a DVD..
But every time he opens any media player to play a file across the network, a error message pops up "network or path file not found". Somtimes he is able to play 2mins of any file then this error will occur...

I was thinking, what if i buy some network cable and run a direct link, pc-pc. Will i be able to still have the wireless network running on both pc's and have this connection between them or will there be some kind of conflict.

The internet is connected though the wireless router so i kind of need the wireless, i know this problem has nothing to do with the wireless network cuse we are able to play LAN games with no problem.

Assuming you both have an RJ45 plug on your networking cards you should be able to do a direct connection. You need to make sure you buy a cross-over cable. If you buy a standard networking cable it will not work.

BTW: It could very well be the wireless connection. When you are gaming there isn't as much data being sent over the network as there is when he is streaming music/video. If possible, try to place the wireless router closer to his PC to see if the problem persists.

Yesterday my brother woke up and his computer would not connect to the network, would get stuck trying to identify it.
I got him on a a little wireless adapter (as opposed to a wired one) and it slowed the connection down for me. He is now using a different computer (wired) and the connection is still very slow.
If my computer is the only one connected I don't have any issues, if either of the computers he can use is connected (wired or wireless) I have connection issues.
At first I thought it was an issue with his PC tried to see about fixing his driver and if his IP was borked to no avail, but now I'm starting to think it could be mine or an issue with the router/modem (which was provided to us by our ISP) but I have no idea how to even begin to figure out what is wrong.

Alright, so I have a computer, Windows XP, my brother has a laptop, same, windows XP. And I wanna start a LAN network, so that we can share files, not so that he can see my hard drive or anything, just like a sharing folder where I can throw things in there and he'd get it.

Because we like to share media, like music, videos, pictures and such. Instead of the hassle of getting USBs and sending over MSN and stuff.

And my computer has a printer connected to it. So how can I get my brother connected to the printer so he doesn't have to send me the document to print? Like he can just print from his room?

Thanks ahead!

With my Brother, running the downloaded installer finds the printer already on he network. Sets it up and install the drivers. Otherwise, W& will try to use it's geneic WSD, which is not bidirectional.
I did have a problem that I resolved by completely uninstalling and re-running the latest installer from Brother's website. Hope that helps.

The printer is hooked up through the router via ethernet cable, in a normal port (no special network printer port on router, not the internet connection port, ordinary port where additional computers hooked up to network go)

I am doing the configuration (changing IP addresses, installing the software as indicated by the user's guide) on one computer that is connected to the router via cable

The OS of the configuring computer is WinXP 64 Bit (and i hope the Win64 Bit is not a problem because i bought the printer knowing it was "fully compatible with WinXP64" and it would mess up my whole office if it is incompatible

I did the installation and followed the steps, i changed the IP of the printer and the IP in the installation so that they have the same IP, when the software asked, I entered the same DNS my computer uses to connect to the router, and for "gateway", i entered what I put for my computer's "default gateway"

after all that, i hit next and it says it was successful

the diagnostic program which automatically runs on reboot after installation says that the printer is not connected to the network/computer/printer is offline/etc

thanks for any help you guys could give

On one of my PCs I am able to access the various drives as either a local device or as a network device. For example, I can access the hard drive as a local device C:\ or as a network device \\PM1\C (PM1 is the computer name).
Same is true for the second hard drive (D:\ or \\PM1\D), the CD/DVD drives, the memory card reader. But it is not true for my external (USB) hard drive. I can access the external drive as N:\ but I am NOT able to acess it as \\PM1\N. Windows tells me \\PM1\N can not be found even though N:\ is found.
As best I can tell I have Sharing and Security set properly for all of the drives including N. All of the drives are NTFS. I'm running WinXP Pro SP2.

If I move the external USB drive to another PC I do NOT have the same problem there. So I think the problem is specific to how something is set in this one particular PC.

Any clues?

I plugged in my ethernet connection and nothing happened, when usually it will recognize it. when I tried to open IE to double check and it opened the network connection wizard window. My guess is that my drivers are messed up somehow with my networking (the ethernet port is built in though, it's not external.) Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. After reinstalling Windows XP Home edition on my PC I have found that a driver for the Network Card could not be found (see attached file containing pics). In Device Manager the network card does not appear under network adapters but instead under other devices as an Ethernet Controller with a yellow question mark and exclaimation point. When viewing the details the device status says the driver is not installed (code 28). On microsoft's website it says the following on code 28:

Code 28
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Recommended resolution

To install the drivers for this device, click Update Driver. This starts the Hardware Update Wizard.

Unfortunately, Windows does not appear to have a driver and I can't connect to the internet to search for one.

I tried installing DriverGuide which says the device is an "82551 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Controller" made by Intel.

Can anyone please give me some guidance on how to fix this problem?

Hello, everyone. I'm running Windows XP Professional, SP 2. I've never had problems getting on the internet, but yesterday, when I started up my computer, i get the error message, "No Active Network Adapters Found" under the Networking tab of the Task Manager, and now I can't get on the internet even though it'll show that I'm connected. The Network Adapters section in the Device Manager isn't reporting any problems.

However, there's also another problem that occurs simultaneously: now, while my computer's booting up, if I keep re-opening the Task Manager, it'll literally take about 5 minutes to populate the "User Name" column under the Processes tab. In addition, if I try looking at My Computer, nothing will appear and the searchlight will come up for these 5 minutes. I'm not sure if this and the network adapter problem are interconnected, but I figured I'd metion this too.

Thanks in advance for any help provided! Please let me know if any other information is needed. Thanks again!

Try the chipset driver and see if that solves your network issue.

Hope this is the correct Forum for Printer questions.
Is it ?

Have a 5 yr old Brother printer (HL-2140) which uses a TN-360 ink Cartridge.

A Brother branded "high yield" TN-360 goes for about $ 50. Wow.

I see that Amazon carries several other non Brother, but supposedly compatible
TN-360 cartridges by mfg. names I've never heard of.

Much, much cheaper.
Am willing to try one, but am very uncertain which of the brands to go with.

Anyone have any experience with non Brother labeled "compatible" cartridges ?
Any good ?
Which Brand should I try, perhaps ?

Note: It's almost worth buying a brand new Brother printer instead !

A:Brother Printer and Non-Brother Branded Ink Cartridges ?

Hi, again:

You will likely find that the answer to this question falls into 2 major camps:
Only use OEM, branded ink from the printer manufacturer (or a trusted, high-volume, reputable seller), OR
It's perfectly fine to use knockoff, refurb, non-branded
I don't know anything about Brother, as I have been using HP printers/all-in-ones since the days of the printing press.

No matter which brand, in the printer industry, the ink/toner is how the manufacturer makes its money, not on the hardware.

There are many factors in the risk:benefit calculation, such as budget, volume of printing needs, need for optimal performance, etc.

My own personal experience for relatively heavy home/home office use is that it is not worth skimping on the cost of discounted ink/toner.
There can be serious quality issues with the cheap stuff (even branded, refurbished ones).
And there can be quality issues even when buying "new" OEM ink/toner from 3rd-party sites or even brick and mortar big box stores (the items may be legit, but they are stale).
If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
HP has a terrific ink/toner program -- 2 or 3 mouse clicks and I have the products on my doorstep 1 or 2 business days later, with free shipping. The price is highly competitive, and the ink/toner is always fresh and high-quality. This works very well for me.

Your mileage may vary, of course....

Currently my wireless network at home is functioning OK. But when I go to "View Wireless Networks" it says that there are "No wireless networks in range." Also when I go to Advanced Settings, there is no data listed under "Preferred Networks."

Second, when I travel I cannot search for available wireless networks because the utility always reports that none are available, even though some networks certainly are.

A friend of mine called me last night with a problem trying to un-install the Brother software for a multifunction printer. This particular printer is no long manufactured, so is hard to find much about it. She has tried the Brother un-installer with no luck. Every time she boots up her computer she gets this message...Failed to start the control center. The required info is missing. Please re- install the multifunction suite. CC3-001-00001907. She brought it over last evening and I tried for a couple hrs to get rid of it. I was reading info on line and tried about everything I read. I went into the registry and deleted everything I saw that was Brother. Still no luck. We ran malwarebytes free just in case it was a type of malware. Did a full scan and found nothing. Today she called me and says it is still there. I told her how to open files and folders and delete anything there with Brother on it. She did find a folder and deleted it. Still doing the same thing. What next??
Thanks for any help.

Hello, I'm helping a blind person out with her printer and can't seem to get the thing to work. She's running 98se. She has a braille printer connected to one parallel port and a scanner to another parallel port.
I've installed a Brother HL5040 via USB but it won't work. Is the USB port COM1 & COM2? The other port is an Epson port LPT1. Can I delete that port? She used to have an Epson and there are traces of Epson all over this pc. I thought LPT1 was a parallel port????
Can someone help me out? A PC guy would do it but he wants $150 just to come over and she can't afford that.
Thanks so much and may God bless,

Could someone take a look at this. My brother is infected and I don't really want to screw up his machine with my lack of knowledge with HiJack this.

He has already run Adaware, Spybot, and done a virus scan. He is getting some sort of popup "freesites" I think he said. He just restored his machine the other day and got smacked before he even got the thing updated.

Thanks folks.

I want to make a Minecraft server for me and my brother to play on together, we both have Minecraft and i have the server up. I can get on it but I can't figure out how to get him on it. From what I understand I don't need to port forward because we are in the same house and on the same internet. I've tried putting the Ip address in the server address, but it always says it is out of reach.
Honestly I have never put up a server. I downloaded the software and ran everything. I have not done anything like port forwarding, I don't know how to and from what I've read I don't need. I can get on the server I jest can't get him on. We both have a PC both with Windows.

All I want is to have a server for us to play on. Thank you for any help. I really don't know how to do this so any help would be great.

My brother went around on some sites last night that were serials and keygen related, and I do not authorize any sort of behavior like this as it is illegal. However he tried to find a good antivirus and when I started my computer this morning, I found WinAntiVirusPro2007 installed so I deleted it and then the fun began. Adware like crazy. I have ran Spybot S&D, Nod32, and Adware Personal many times over and still cannot get rid of everything his download must have installed.
After visiting the forums here, I've downloaded hijackthis and here is my first log. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running a Windows 7 machine. I've installed the drivers on this computer and can print from it with no problems. However when I follow the on-screen instructions to set up the wireless connectivity for the printer, the set up wizard does not find any devices. Per the instructions, I've tried disabling my computer's firewall but to no avail. I've tried both set ups (with an Ethernet cable and without) but both have yielded the same result. I've checked to make sure all the cables are inserted correctly and firmly. I also printed a network configuration sheet and the wireless on the printer is "active."

I've also tried going into my modem (U-verse) and see the printer hooked up via Ethernet cable, however the status is "off" (though the printer is on). I've tried disabling the firewall for the printer through my router but I get an error that I am not allowed to disable it.

Am I missing something here? Could something be wrong with the printer or is it just user error...?

Thanks in advance for any help!
