I was running an emulator to see if my computer can halndle the output, and now I am here. My screen suddenly went black through some gameplay and will not turn back on. My laptop was charging and I had a USB Type C dongle/ hub connected to it. After my screen went black, I tried pressing the power button to power it back on, but it didn't work. I unplugged all other peripherals and tried the power button again, nothing. I don't mind performing a hard reset, I just need help turning my laptop back on for school. The LEDs don't even turn on when I try to reconnect the charger and the same goes for the LED on the power button. Please help. ThanksRead other answers
Has anyone seen / heard information regarding a possible ETA for the new Kaby Lake based Spectre x360 variants in the UK? It's exactly what I'm looking for, and I was really excited about the October release date, only to be disappointed when it came and went and yet it's still not available in the UK I've customized the spec that I'm after on the US store: 13", 1920x1080, Core i7-7500U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD, Win 10 Pro x64 - except of course it's lacking the UK keyboard. The computer was purchased on December 10 2016, and on February 11 2017 I presented the fan system error 90B.
The error appears and disappears, I update the BIOS but it is still happening. The equipment is impeccable, so I discard dirt. Also the fan seems to work, and I have monitored the temperature and it has not changeda, although it has warmed considerably since I bought it. But the error still appears. The equipment has warranty but I buy it in USA and I am from Costa Rica.
Hi, So having a bit of a frustrating experience finding a working dock for the new Spectre X360 (Kaby Lake). I need something with PD (power in), HDMI/DVI or DP out (two ports if fine, one up to 4k), and a few USB ports. I've tried a cheap aukey one and though HDMI works it's buggy. I'm now looking at this guy P5Q54UT - HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock 65W but not entirely sure if it'll work. A few pluggable docks specifically mention that HP is not supported or claim HP doesn't support alt-mode (for USB C) and PD 2.0 spec. Any guidance is appreciated.Read other answers
Hello, As I've learned the "NEW" 2016 HP Spectre x360 13-w000 (Kaby Lake) does not have a digitizer built-in and thus does not support any Active Pen/Stylus. The only option available is to use some capacitive one. I have a Wacom Bamboo Stylus which performs horribly on my x360. Do you guys have any good suggestion for such a capacitive stylus, which is precise enough for occational note-taking, document marking, etc? Thanks!

Hello, I got my 2016 HP Spectre x360 (Kaby Lake) laptop a week ago, and it seems the battery life is very underwhelming. I get around 4 hours from mixed usage (browsing/productivity/media). I had the previous gen. Spectre and almost similar tasks got me 8hr+ battery life. I've tried battery testing/calibration etc. suggested in the support pages. Anyone else having similar problems? Hi, I just got the new Kaby Lake (Intel's 7th gen) Spectre x360 and ran it through its paces. It seems to be a solid machine, but there's one serious issue so far - external displays flashing on and off, at least when hooked up with a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort adapter (this one from CableMatters: http://amzn.to/2gKQrVR. What happens when I connect external monitors (1 or 2-3 via DisplayPort MST) is sometimes they work fine.Sometimes, if I disconnect and reconnect, they start flashing on and off.Sometimes, the whole laptop freezes upon connection (happened twice today so far).And finally sometimes the externals are not working at all - the system detects them, but selecting Extend or anything in multi-monitor mode just reverts back to Single.Oh, and this happens once: http://i.imgur.com/Su9zInD.png http://i.imgur.com/qG9K8yC.png - the external display got stuck in a 640x480 generic mode and would not turn on.As you can see, it's a cluster@$%*. To put the comment in context i originally posted this in the "Battery drain when shut-down" forum. Ok, trying to figure out how to get rid of the last 2-4% overnight drain i went through device manager and checked for outdated drivers, i then noticed that the driver for the NVME storage controller was a generic windows driver from 2006, tried to search for a update via device manager and hp's support page but no luck. Then i rememered that back in the old days i used to use driver update tools to fetch the latest drivers for my computer, so i installed iobit driver booster 4 (free) and gave it a spin. Guess what, it gave me a samsung driver from august 2016. Did a reboot and just to make sure it was working as it should, i fired up ATTO and CrystalDiskMark and ran benchmarks. I know what numbers the SSD got before and what reviewers of this machine have gotten, which was about 1700mb/s read and 600mb/s write. This is what i get after i replaced the generic nvme controller driver with the one from samsung:3000mb/s read and 1200mb/s write!!! Im not sure how the new driver will affect battery life or anything, but i figuered i'd let you guys know, i mean that is almost double the performance of the generic windows driver. Try it out if you want guys, run a couple of SSD benchmarks before you install the new driver so that you have something to compare the after results with PS! Yes the driver update is likely the Samsung NVMExpress driver update 2.1: http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools.html I installed it in my Spectre 13 Pro and it updated the Microsoft Standard NVME driver from 2006 to the Samsung NVME dated 12/8/16. Unfortunately my speed increases were not as dramatic but there was an improvement....about 10% on both read and write side. I have the Samsung MZVLV256 aka SM951..M.2 disk and read is about 1500 and write is a bit over 500. I did the same upgrade to my Zbook G3 MWS which has the 512 gig SM951 and this one is giving me fits...read is about 1300 but write shows up as an appaling 9 mbps. Has to be something wrong. Results are just about the same with or without the Samsung NVME driver. Still the Zbook "feels" very peppy. Boot time is good and everything seems to run fine. I have Ubuntu 16.10 installed on Hp Spectre x360 Kaby Lake, I have noticed that on suspending the machine isnt exactly saving power - the battery discharge rate seems to be stable at the idle discharge rate?Morover I have also noticed that the machine was a bit warm after a few hours, which makes me think that the machine was actually on but only the screen was off.Any sugessions on how I can get the same suspend features as in Windows 10?Read other answers
Hello I just bought a new HP Spectre X360 with a elite thunderbolt 3 65w dock. After installing all the drivers everything is working when i connect the laptop to the dock. But the only thing that i cannot get to work is the power button on the dock. It doesnt light up in any colour like it says in the manuel and when i press it, it does nothing. I went to search for thunderbolt options in the bios but it seems there are none there. I updated to the latest bios (f.11) btw. Considering this new revision has been out for about a couple months now, I am really surprised that no one has posted about this yet. My question is simply exactly as the title says. Does the newest HP Spectre x360 13-w0XX that has the new Kaby Lake i7 support two 4k displays? I know that because of having Thunderbolt 3 ports, it has the right connections to support it. I guess the real question is can the Intel Graphics 620 support that? I know it can support one 4k display, but not seen anything about dual 4k displays. I just recently purchased this lap top, and I love it so far. However 1 of the main reasons I bought it was because it was 1 of very few lap tops on the market with Thunderbolt 3. I think the only Windows laptop that had not only 1 but 2 of them. So if this laptop has the ports to support dual 4k without a graphics card that can, then that will be incredibly disappointing.Read other answers

I'm having trouble with super scratchy/distorted audio on the newest (Oct 2016, 7th gen i7) Spectre x360 (X7V22UA) and am wondering if this is just inherent to the design or if my machine has a hardware problem. When my machine was brand new out of the box, it sounded like the speakers were blown out when playing certain frequencies such as the Windows 10 notification tone. I did the standard troubleshooting, a HP representative asked me to send it in for repair, allegedly the speakers were replaced, but the replaced unit is just as bad. When audio plays at even modest volumes (right now I have it at 36/100), I can feel the laptop vibrating and rattling.I know this is a laptop and I'm not expecting the world's greatest sound, but the distortion is really annoying. Is this just inherent to the new x360s or am I just unlucky with my RMA? I've tried updating drivers, BIOS, etc. and the problem persists. Headphones are fine. Has anyone tried to update to Windows 10 Anniversary update? It's not listed by HP as supported (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282), though it's a NEW model. I tried it once before, and that created issues with the HP Recovery Manager, and I reverted back. A few days ago, I got a BIOS update with the "Anniversary Update Comapatibility fix", however HP is yet to update their compatibility list. The incompetent phone support is again proved worthless as they don't seem to have any idea . So i recieved my spectre x360 in the mail last weekend and it occurd to me at one point that the f9, f10 and f11 function keys (the previous, play/pause and next keys) were not working. I was noticing severe battery drain on my one month old spectre x360 i7 7500 ssd 512 GB variant. the laptop was taking more than 3 hours to charge and the charge was not holding for more than two and half hours for normal web browsing. It was also discharging at an unacceptable pace while completely turned off. I had updated my BIOS firmware to F.10 and also applied the Sphinx fix as described [url ="http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Battery-drain-when-shut-down-HP...] in post 79 by Senchronize. However, the problem persisted. I decided to do a complete factory reset. Backed up my data and created a USB recovery using the HP support assistant software. However, while applying the factory reset, after the formatting of hard drive stage was completed the programmed returned an errors message "HP recovery manager failed error code=0xEFFFFF23". I tried doing it again and it would return the same error. I did a hardware diagnosis from BIOS and it does nothing. Tried loading a fresh Operating system through an OS bootable USB. The system prepares for install. But when it is ready it install, it fails to see any hard drive at all. I checked the HP support page for this machine to find if there is a SSD driver that I can load during the OS installation. However, I couldn't find the SSD drivers associated with this machine. Hello, I purchased a new spectre x360, w013dx model number, from best buy on Feb 11 2017 and I seem to be having an issue that has popped up on this forum, YouTube, and various other Google searches, namely the loose, or more appropriately, the overly noisy and clicky touchpad. I am wondering A) is this a condition that becomes worse, progressively that is, or does it get better over time as the touch pad and other components get "broken in" so to speak, and mate together better, like using lapping compound on machine parts? B) If this is considered an issue, is there a fix for it if I send it in to HP? It is moderately bothersome to me, and in haven't really experienced it before on other laptops. I really like to use the 2 and 3 finger swipes and scroll features, and when I push down on the touchpad without clicking it, it feels loose and there is an audible click when I press down on it. I am coming from and Acer laptop that had an extremely smooth and oversized glass track pad so I may be overly aware because I got used to that one and it was very solid. I do not want to return it and plan to keep it because otherwise it is fantastic, but I have seen other people say this and I will echo it here, this is a 1200 to 1400 dollar device and I want to make sure it is in peak condition because I plan to keep it for at least 2 to 3 years. I have a dell xps 13 9360 and for the most part ever since I have owned it the mother board has made a fuzzy noise when there is any movement on the screen, the noise is even louder when plugged in. I sent it back to get fixed and the issue was not resolved. Hello,my spectre x360 touchpad stopped working suddenly. There is no pointer seen on screen and no response from touchpad no matter what i do. When i plug a wireless mouse, then the pointer shows and the mouse works. The touchscreen works fine. The synaptics smbus driver says its already updated and i didn't want to uninstall it in case i made things worse. Does anyone know whats happening with my laptop? Thank you

hi,i recently bought HP Spectre x360 with highest specs an. d i'm facing some real serious issues with the touchpad / clickpad. as many others in this forum and reviewers pointed out, the clicks are not being recognized. In my case, I'd say it is around 50% of the clicks don't get registered and I have to click again to make it work. That is really frustrating and enough to make me come here and post this question. I really like the laptop and this is exactly what I've been looking for but this clickpad is a real deal breaker. I followed some suggestions on this forum and also tried some troubleshooting myself (since i myself is a support engineer) but to no avail. I changed the synaptics settings to try and remove too much intelligence from the touchpad and at least get the basic functionality right, but i continue to miss the clicks. I also tried replacing the driver with synaptic one but the problem continues, which tells me that it is something related to the hardware piece than the software / driver. can someone here please help me with this? if i hadn't liked the laptop, i wouldn't bother posting here to try and find a solution, i'd simply get rid of it and go with lenovo yoga 3 pro or something else. but this laptop has really high build quality and classy looks, but probably killed by this $25 buggy piece of hardware.

HelloI'm using the new HP Spectre x360 laptop and I'm experiencing an annoying issues. Whenever I connect the charger there is a "metallic" noise from the laptop. In a quiet room there is no problem hearing it. Almost sounds like an old mechanical hard drive but more metallic and high pith. I only hear this when the charger is connected I had the laptop replaced by this but still have the same issues. I have three different original power adapters and I have the same issue with all of them. I have also tried to disable the keyboard baclighting since I read that could cause issues previously. I don't really want to send this one back too since I think that the third laptop will have the same issue. Mst be others noticing this? Any solution, workaround or clue what is causing this? Hi, I just received my HP Spectre 360 (13-4007na). Its the top end model - i7, 8GB / 512GB SSD / QHD with Windows 8.1 - 64. I am noticing that the fan comes on even for basic web browsing activity. All you need to do to get the fan started is load 4 to 5 tabs on a mainstream news site (like theguardian). This can be consistently reproduced. More details- I am using Chrome as my browser. - I have installed all the recommended Windows updates (400mb+)- The machine is brand new. So there is no question of dust etc.- My room temperature is quite low - about 12 C- I installed speedfan, one of the temperature sensors reads 60 C after opening about 5 tabs- The fan stays on for several seconds at a time, starting up again when you open new pages- The fan is quite loud and very distracting. This is very disappointing and is a deal breaker for what is presented as a "premium" ultrabook model. None of the online reviews seems to mention this. Just wondering if its just a issue with my machine. Would very much appreciate any suggestions. Thanks,hkm.

I bought this computer about a month and a half ago and today I noticed it started doing a weird clicking noise (I had this happen before with the speakers on an other hp computer on Linux. They later broke). This sound is completely new because I've been working from home the last couple of weeks and I never heard it before. I could hear the fan starting, but never this sound.I can't seem to be able to trigger it, so I can't really figure out what it is. I first thought it was everytime I got a notification on Hangouts (sound related) but it is not always. Then I thought it was a processing related issue, maybe the fan was coming on and something got loose in the computer, but the fan just started (loudly) and there was no clicking sound. Anybody has any idea what it is and how to proceed? Ps: I can also hear a whirring/scratching sound when I put my ear close to the top left corner, but the clicking sound seems to come from the bottom right. Maybe they are related?
I also have a Spectre X360 that makes noises, but I don't think they're the clicking yours makes. Sometimes, when the fan first engages, there is a very quiet click, before it ramps up. Then there is the constant buzzing/crackling that you mentioned, and this has been discussed at length here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Spectre-x360-Noise/td-p/5107394 with no proper solution as yet. It sounds like your clicking is a different sound, and since the only moving part in the machine is the fan, nothing else should really be making audible sounds (unless you have sound playing through the speakers). The crackling/buzzing mentioned is due to power management circuitry for the processor, and the noise is barely audible. If your clicking is loud enough to be heard during regular use, then my thoughts would be that its the fan, something in the fan, or the speakers. Purchased this laptop this summer. Upgraded RAM, solid state HD, etc. Most expensive laptop i've yet purchased. And the touchpad will not work. Well, sometimes, for a day or so, it will be OK. But the factory-installed driver never did work--cursor jumped around all on its own. impossible to use. Missed clicks about 20-30% of the time. Uninstalled driver. Have tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers every other day or so since i purchased this. Yes, it is THAT BAD. Went from factory-installed to Synaptics driver to PS-2. Finally disabled windows 10 auto downloads (well, apparently that can't really be done bec MS controls my computer, not me--but i did change it to a metered connection, because every Windows download created new driver issues). From what i've read, it's clear that touchpad and audio drivers for my model laptop with Windows 10 are a systemic problem that neither HP nor MS nor Synaptics has any interest in addressing. Never buying an HP product again. Just went through the uninstall-re-install gig again tonight--now using the Synaptics generic driver--and still the cursor jumps around. will stay in one place for several seconds, but then it's gone. Laptop is basically unusable. Never, ever, in owning 7 different laptops over the last 30 years, have i ever had this problem before. Hi everyone, I received my X360 a couple of weeks ago and I'm thinking of returning it due to fan noise. I've followed some advice in other posts where people are suggesting in it's driver/windows 10 or even dust related. I've updated drivers, stopped windows services... done everything I can think of resulting in watching task manager like a hawk.With a few tabs in my browser open it will start to get warm at the rear-left, eventually the fan will kick in slightly - the fan kicking in slightly is fine. However should anything remotely tax the cpu at around 25% for anything more than a minute or two, or worse still I dare to open an indie game which should be too demanding then the fan quickly spins-up and is an off putting nuisance. I know it's not a gaming machine, but the cpu load issue has me wary of even installing a standalone antivirus.How has everyone found the fan noise or heat produced by their Spectre? Would be grateful for some feedback please.

I have looked into your issue about your HP Spectre x360 Notebook and issues with heat and fan noises. I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults.You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings and fan defaults. Restart the Notebook after it has completed. You could try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows 10. Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed! Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just unboxed my new x360. Any time I lift my finger off the touchpad I hear a click sound. This isn't necessarily a "rattle" nor does it feel like anything is loose. It sounds like an electronically generated sound on a mouse event. Oddly this doesn't come through my headphones when they are plugged into the audio jack. Another reason I think it is electronically generated is the fact that the sound doesn't change with varying pressure on the touchpad. Even the most gentle touch, creates the "click" when lifting my finger. Please help me get rid of this sound. My previous generation x360 did not make this sound.Read other answers
I am having a problem with my Spectre x360. I noticed the casing around the bottom of the nearest edge (during normal usage) of the laptop, the area under the touchpad, was loose. I used some pressure to snap the casing back into position, but after doing so the touchpad has lost the ability to "click" down. The part of the touchpad that would normally click still has give to it when pressed down upon, but does not click down the way it used to, nor does it register a left click event when pressed down upon. It still registers taps, swipes, and multi-finger motion with no problem, so the computer remains funcional, but over the year I have had this computer I have grown used to clicking down on the touchpad instead of tapping it. If anybody has any insights into precise causes of this issue or any possible fixes, please let me know. Thank you. More information: possibly at the same time this problem began, I began to have the issue with a yellow spot forming around the upper left corner of the screen. I know this is a very common issue, but could it be related at all to my touchpad issue? If anybody has information related to fixing either of these issures, I would love to hear it. I've encountered a problem with the touchpad. After using a the "regular scrolling" option on a chromebook, having to break the habit by scrolling down by swiping up is no small annoyance. I also use a regular mouse often too, so simply reversing all scrolling would be hard to get used to. I've looked online and found that other notebooks have a feature called "precision touchpad" that allows them to reverse scrolling. Naturally I decided to test the method myself by going to Mouse and Touchpad under PC Settings. Sadly there was nothing there to change scrolling. Obviously that wouldn't do, so I kept up the search. I then stumbled upon another way to change scrolling direction through Mouse Properties. Going to the ClickPad Settings and enabling the scrolling option yielded no results. Normally I'd love to fix things by myself, but this time I need some help. If anyone has any solutions, that would be amazing.

Hi I purchased this laptop around 4 months ago and really enjoy using it. the touchpad has always been a little unresponsive, particularly on the two finger scroll but I have been patient with it. today the cursor froze completely. when turn on the laptop or restart the cursor appears on the screen. when I try to move the cursor using the touch pad it does not respond. when i touch the screen, the cursor disappears and never returns no matter what I do. I can navigate using the touch screen but my natural instinct is to use the touchpad so I waste lots of time instinctively going to the touchpad and then having to redo the action on the touch screen. I updated the Synaptics touchpad driver (tip from a related string on the forum) ... sp71089.exe ... but it made no difference. Please helpThanksFrankkk

so i hear Kaby Lake and Zen isn't "compatible" with anything older than Win 10, but what does that mean?
will everything still work, but you just wont get any security updates via windows update?
or will they cripple it so it wont even boot?
i also heard that intel/AMD wont provide any chipset updates, but that should be fine right?
It means that on Kaby Lake or Zen you wont be able to install other OS than Win 10 or Linux.

So my brand new laptop seems to be rejecting all of its drivers. Yesterday, on the 3rd day of using it, the speakers didn't work when I tried to use them for the first time, but headphones plugged into the jack did. And today, the trackpad stopped working and I can no longer see the cursor. Touchscreen is still working, though. What am I supposed to do to fix this? Hello, I just bought a new Spectre x360 (13-4101dx, pre-loaded with Windows 10) and I'm having issues with the Synaptics touchpad. After a Windows update, the driver was updated to version 184.108.40.206. I have reverse scrolling disabled but for some applications, the two finger scrolling is still reversed. Applications like Google Chrome and Device Manager work fine, the reverse scrolling is disabled. However, for applications like Windows settings, Microsoft Edge, and pretty much everything Windows-related, it seems to be permanently reversed. Also, every time I restart my laptop, all of the settings are reverted back to default. Now, on my HP Envy 15-j000, I have the same driver (220.127.116.11) and I don't face the same issues with reverse scrolling being "permanent" on Windows-related applications. However, the settings do still reset itself after every reboot. How can I fix this? Will Synaptics be releasing a fixed driver for this or am I just missing something? I absolutely hate reverse scrolling and only a small handful of my applications actually run with it disabled...
I have this same issue with my HP OMEN using driver 18.104.22.168, windows update says this is the latest driver. Scrolling remains inverted in some apps/settings. I fixed this issue by reverting to an older driver (22.214.171.124), scrolling is now uniform. Kinda annoying that I had to fix it this way, but I had to go the HP Omen driver/support page and download the driver for the synaptics touchpad (even though HP's website insists you use Windows update for Windows 10). I then had to install the old driver, go into device manager and roll back the driver to 126.96.36.199 - you have to do this otherwise Win 10 will just use the latest driver. After that you can change the setting in the synaptics clickpad settings and it will be uniform. This was what worked for me.Read other 7 answers
On my HP Spectre x360, the touchpad is still active when the laptop is in tablet mode. The keyboard is disabled as expected however. Is there a setting that can also disable the touchpad in tablet mode?

I recently purchased the HP Spectre x360 with the i7 processor and the computer works great except when the touchpad randomly jumps to the top left of my screen and phantom clicks. I can not seem to fix the issue as I have the latest drivers installed.
