How do I re-enable PIN + Fingerprint sign-in for domain PCs?

Q: How do I re-enable PIN + Fingerprint sign-in for domain PCs?

A previous GPO tech set these to be disabled by default and I can't figure out how to re-enable. The options stay greyed out no matter what I try. I don't want to remove the settings to disable from the default policy so I have created an additional GPO for certain PCs to have it enabled and I'm just trying to find all of the settings to get this working again for the approved users.

This is what I have set currently...
In Computer -> Policies -> Admin Templates:
System/Logon -> Turn on PIN sign-in = Enabled
Windows Components/Biometrics -> Allow domain users to log on using biometrics = Enabled
Windows Components/Biometrics -> Allow users to log on using biometrics = Enabled
Windows Components/Biometrics -> Allow the use of biometrics = Enabled
Windows Components/Microsoft Passport for Work -> Use biometrics = Enabled
Windows Components/Microsoft Passport for Work -> Use Microsoft Passport for Work = Enabled

Any suggestions are most welcome

Thanks

Preferred Solution: How do I re-enable PIN + Fingerprint sign-in for domain PCs?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I just reinstalled Windows 10 on my machine.

Before I had it set up so that I could log in with a password or fingerprint.

Now it seems my only options are (1) password only OR (2) password, PIN or fingerprint.

I don't want PIN as a sign in option. But I have to enable PIN via "Windows Hello" before enabling Fingerprint sign in.

And once I have fingerprint sign in enabled, if I remove the PIN I lose both PIN and fingerprint sign in options.

Any ideas how I can set up password and fingerprint as my only two sign in options?

I have a Dell Latitude E5450 running Windows 10 and I'm trying to get its fingerprint scanner to work. At first there were no drivers but after googling for a while I found one and installed it:

Not sure if it is the right one but it's the only one I could find. When I go to sign-in options I see Password, PIN and Picture Password but not Fingerprint, or Windows Hello if that's what it's called.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi all,    Recently I can't set up my Fingerprint-sign in recently in Window Hello on my 6-month old T450s. I pressed "Setup" for several times but it doesn't respond. Besides that, I had update the driver of Fingerprint Sensor on Device Manager and still the issue exists.   The version of the Driver(Synaptics FP Sensors)  is 4.5.507.0 and I am using Window 10   Does anyone experience the same thing as well as I am  ?

Hello, First, let me say that the Windows 10 upgrade (I did a clean install) seems to be working great on my HDX 16. I do have a problem with signing in with my fingerprint scanner. Based on other posts I (re-) installed DigitalPersona Personal version 4.01.3749 and the Validity Sensor driver version 1.3.1.183. After the installs my finger-reader showed up in device manager as a Biometric devices. It was not there before. The DigitalPersona read my fingerprints and registered my right and left index fingers. Just now I signed into the software with my index finger. However on sign-in, it says fingerprints not registered. I have re-scanned my fingers 4 or 5 times. It seems there is no connection between the fingerprint software and the Win10 sign-in. Please let me know if anyone has a fix. Thanks!

After a Windows update, I can no longer use my finger print to sign in! It says "Your credentials could not be verified" after the fingerprint reader goes green and says "Hello <my name>" This is windows Hello with Microsoft live. If I try another (wrong) finger, the reader LED will go orange and will not even say "Hello" so I know the reader is working... but something broke after an update. I tried changing the group policy settings to allow biometric sign in, but I still get the error... Please advise, this is annoying!!

With Windows 7 and the Lenovo fingerprint software I could use the fingerprint that I captured to bypass the power on and the harddisk password. The option to do this is still there, even in the latest BIOS ("Predesktop Authentication" -> "Enabled"). The fingerprint software took care to transfer the captured biometric data somewhere into the BIOS NVRAM. However, with Windows 10 there seems to be no way to sync the captured fingerprint to BIOS. Essentially, the above option is be enabled, only there are no fingerprints stored in the BIOS. In the end, I can't use a fingerprint to bypass the power on password. If it still works for some people with Windows 10 then this is because the data is still in the BIOS NVRAM e.g. from an earlier Windows 7  installation. Once the data is cleared ("Reset Fingerprint Data" in the BIOS), then it seems impossible to ever add any data back. -> How can I sync the Windows 10 fingerprints to BIOS?

I can't find a way to use my fingerprint to login to the domain in Windows 8.1
It seems that Win8 is different that Win7 in terms of allowing for fingerprint domain login.  Based on what I found on another Win7 thread I did some modifications
and got this far in terms of fixing the problem:
In Administration Tools go to:
Local Group Policy Editor / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Biometrics

 Allow  the use of biometrics
(the default is 'not configured') Allow  users to logon using biometrics
(the default is 'not configured') Allow  domain users to logon using biometrics
(the default is 'not configured')
After this the PC will ask you to ?Lock? the PC and follow instructions.  I keep restarting the PC but can't get it to work yet; I'm probably misunderstanding
something or missed a step.

Hi everyone,I have an X1 carbon 2nd Gen laptop, with type 20A8S18T00. Everything works fine except the fingerprint security. I have installed the ThinkVantage Finferprint Software v6.0.0.8102 - the latest one, then the fingerprint driver "should be already installed along" (as I read somewhere).  But when I tried to enroll new fingerprint data, it always show the error E7210005 - "Cannot enroll user. Cannot update passport. Cannot find fingerprint sensor device". I have checked my BIOS Setting and seen that the option "Fingerprint Reader" was disabled and there is no way to select it and change value to Enable or whatever. I have heard people said that option must be enabled before doing making any changes with fingerprint data. Now I'm totally stuck! Here are my BIOS Setting screenshots: 1 - BIOS General Information 2 - Security >> Fingerprint 3 - Security >> I/O Port Access 4 - Security >> Secure Boot Could you please have me solve this case? Hi chaudh76, welcome to the forum.

The correct software for the device is Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-...

The version you have listed (v6.0.0.8102) is for ThinkPad X1, X1 Carbon (Type 34xx), not your 20A8.

Make sure you download, and run, the ThinkVantage System Update:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-...

If you download, and run the ThinkVantage System Update first, all of your system drivers will be checked. If any of them need updating, they will appear in the list, and you can download/install them through the program.

Also, here is the complete Lenovo support, and download site, for your ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Type 20A7, 20A8). It contains everything you need: Downloads/Product & Parts/Manuals/Solutions/Videos/Accessories

Hello.  I have a Lenovo P50 20EN laptop.  I've been tearing my hair out for about 6 months because the HDMI port wasn't working (which, of course, I blamed on the cable and returned it to the company who sent it back saying nothing was wrong with it.  Finally I discovered that the P50 HDMI port had a known problem.  So I following the instructions in this community board to update the driver for the Thunderbolt software.  I don't have an HDMI device here so I can't test the results yet, but I immediately ran into another problem; my fingerprint reader wouldn't let me sign-on.  Low and behold, the fingerprint signon setup has disappeared entirely from the signin options.  I tried following the directions to restore the fingerprint signon after losing it due to a Windows 10 update, but that must be a different problem because in my case, there is no Fingerprint Setup button at all in the signon options settings. Can anyone help me?

HELP please if you can.

I just signed up with officelive.com and purchased a domain name.

Because I was new to this, I inadvertently chose a ".com" instead of a ".org" that I initially had in mind.

I already paid the $14.95. They do not have a support number to call.

From doing a little reading, I think I have to purchase another domain name using the ".org".

If I cancel the original domain name, will they still take my $14.95, or merely transfer that payment to the new domain name, does anyone know please?

I know I made a huge mistake but I can't see paying $14.95 TWICE for the same domain name, only one with .com and one with .org.

THANK YOU.

Hi everybody, unfortunately, Lenovo doesn't keep their Firefox-plugin for the ThinkVantage Password Manager working with newer versions -same with other browsers. Or does anybody have a solution or idea for this? Of course, I would prefer to use this solution. I have to login between many people into different online-accounts almost every day and besides ThinkPads great keyboard, the Lenovo-solution to be able to login online by using the fingerprint sensor was one of the most important reasons to choose a TP. Which software do you use for this. You call this biometric single-sign-on I think. Does anybody have a solution or a creative idea? Or is the fingerprint sensor supposed to be only used for OS- and software-logins? My configuration: T430s, Windows 7, Password Manager 4.7, Firefox 57 I would be so greatful if you could help me with this... Thank you, Manuel

For example, in a regular domain, a user can jump from computer to computer using their login information to get into the computer. I was tasked with seeing if it was possible to setup a fingerprint that could be read and placed on the user's account to log them in if the hardware was available. The hardware is most available on the T450s Laptops. If I am confusing in any way or if I can elaborate further please let me know, Thank you,Jay Dee

Hi,

Thank you for posting.

Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:

1.    Please refer to the following document and run the command to see if it works:

Teredo and the PNRP Global Cloud
http://blogs.msdn.com/p2p/archive/2007/03/22/teredo-and-the-pnrp-global-cloud.aspx

Please note the section:
If it says ?Client is in a managed Network? it means teredo has detected that you are in a corperate environment. If that is the case you need to set the Teredo type to Enterprise client ?Netsh int ter set state enterpriseclient?.

2.    Check your firewall with the following Knowledge Base:

Firewall requirements for coexisting with Teredo

Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

My Carbon X1 20bt is experiencing major problems with fingerprint reader and Windows 10. Everything was working fine with Windows 8.1 and the Lenovo software. After upgrading to 10, the Lenovo software was automatically deleted I guess because Windows 10 fully supports sign in with fingerprint. When I read my print in to Windows HELLo, it NEVER recognizes it when signing in. I have read it in to the system multiple times, but have never succeeded to log in with it. This problem has been existing for some time, but yesterday I was doing maintenance to my friends x240 and noticed her reader work without enabling Windows Hello. She didn?t have the pin installed for Hello and the reader worked just fine. On my X1, I have to put in the pin number to Hello or the whole reader is disabled. There was fingerprint reader driver update coming to x240 which I didn?t instal naturally. I tried to instal the 8.1 drivers back, but was unsuccessful. We have laptop computers that normally log into the AD domain, but also need to be able to allow users to log into the computer when the domain is not available  for authentication.
My issue is, I would like to harden the laptops against brute force login in the event the laptop were stolen.  Even though we have a domain-level policy that locks an account after three invalid login attempts, I am not finding a way to do that with
cached credentials when the computer is not on the domain.  The user does not have a locally defined account on the laptop, only cached domain credentials.
Limiting the number of cached logins does not address this particular situation that I have been able to find -- the computer still allows an unlimited number of incorrect guesses at the password, and once the correct password is entered, the account is
logged in.
This is Windows 7 Professional.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi, I'm a happy owner of a Dell E5270 and on The base plate there's a fingerprint sensor. However, when I install the recommended drivers there are no biometric devices. What is visible (in device manager) is Dell Control Vault w/o fingerprint sensor. Is it possible that there is a sensor but that The system lacks the optional fingerprint unit inside the laptop housing? There are no exclamation Marks in the device manager.
Secondly I've found the Dell DW5811E 3P10Y wwan card for the dell e5270 at a bargain price but i would like to know where to finf the cables in the housing? .

Thx!

My Lenovo Yoga 730-13IWL , a few days  after updating to Windows 10 Pro Build 1903 my laptop suddenly won't recognize my fingerprint. So i have to sign in to windows hello using my PIN/Password. I've checked the device manager and apparently my fingerprint/biometric device driver aren't updated. So I try updating the driver through the windows troubleshooter driver update and the Biometric Driver installed (Goodix Fingerprint SGX). The windows said it installed succesfully. But when I want to Set Up new Fingerprint after removing my existing fingerprint on SIGN-IN Option in Windows Settings, after inputing PIN for credential prompt, the windows just asking me to place my finger on the scanner but nothing happen. The driver/hardware seems working but it failed to recognize when my finger are placed on it. Please help to resolve my Problem. Sincerely,Tio
