I just got the HP Pavilion 27xi IPS LED Backlit Monitor at work, working on a computer running Windows 10. I'm pretty tech-saavy, but I cannot figure out how to adjust the brightness! I've tried the F9/F10 function; doesn't work. I then thought it might be an issue with the driver, so I went to Settings -> Displays -> Advanced Display Settings -> Display Adaptor Properties -> Monitor (tab) -> Properties -> Driver (tab) -> Update Driver but got the "The best driver software for your device is already installed" message. Under the Settings -> Displays screen, there's no option for adapting the brightness and I've scoured the forums, but none of the solutions presented are working. Should I manually install an older version of the driver software? Any other potential solutions?Read other answers
I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system
It's worked out well for many of us in the past.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)
I have an Pavilion 27xi monitor as my primary display on a dual monitor system. The monitor will randomly turn off. Sometimes the Power button will respond but I need to unplug the power supply from the monitor for it to come back. Often I have to do this multiple times. When it does come back, the Monitor Status window is up and the controls will not respond. I can not go thru any of the menus since I am lucky if I can get the window to close. It has also gotten to the point that when the monitor comes back up, the display is out of focus. I have never seen that on a monitor before. Please help!Read other answers
I bought 4 of these Pavilion 27xi for two work stations from Costco and am thinking I need to return them. I am now experiencing a problem with one where after start up there is a 4" x 4" area where the montior is just blacked out. When I restart sometimes it will go away. It may take several restarts to do this. I have also just turned the monitor off and on a few times and then it will go away. These are all bought about the same time so I am thinking thet are all going to start dying on me like this? I read thru the forums and someone posted that HP is not actually supporting win 10 with the drivers. I also had this problem with the monitor with win 7 pro before I recently upgraded for free, hoping the win 10 would resolve the issue. If it were the OS then all four of these monitors would be having issues. I also did a factory reset and that didn't help. After migrating to win 10, now all the task bar icons show up on both monitors for each work station which is better. I checked and have the updated drivers for the monitors. When I searched HP site for resolutions it just said to restart your machine but didn't offer anything beyond that. The funny thing of it is when the computer starts and restarts it will show the monitor lit up appropriately and then it will just then default to the blacked out area. It is like it is capable but something makes it just default with blacked out area. Then after a few off... Read moreRead other answers
I had this monitor since 2013 and all of sudden it just went to a black screen in about 2 years. I thought it was the power supply but nothing worked. So just recently I bought a new power supply because I wanted this monitor to work. So I connected it, but the screen is still black I can't go into settings and it doesn't even display the no signal on the screen. I know it is on because the power button is on and the color is white just a solid white no blinking because before when it went out in 2015 the power button was blinking but now it just a solid color. I can click the okay button and all the other buttons to the left of the power button and they go on. My computer detects it because when I go to device manager it shows right there. I downloaded all the drivers. I tried VGA, DVI, and HDMI but nothing seems to work. If you need pictures so you can see it let me know. I even tried to factory reset it with the 10-second method and the 1-minute method but nothing works at all. Please help me I really love this monitor.Thank You.Read other answers
Hi there, I recently received this monitor as a replacement for a DOA monitor that I purchased a few weeks back. All was great for the first few days until the monitor unexpected went black while I was using it. The power button still glowed white, but the screen was showing nothing (no backlight either) and the power button become unresponsive. The only solution has been to unplug the power supply and replug it back it. The problem with this is two fold:1) it happened in the first place2) it continues to occur. However, whereas it seemed to only do it ever day, it now will shut off and become unresponsive after only 5 minutes of use and will continue to shut off within those 5 or fewer minutes even after the power supply has been unplugged and replugged. I don't think it is an issue with the computer or drivers because it happens to both my PC, and two of my Macbook Pros (late 2010 and late 2013). Nor do I believe it an issue with the cords, as it happens to both the VGA and HDMI port. - It is a HP Pavilion 27xi 27 inch- IPS LED backlit MonitorProduct number: C4D27AAManufactured: December 2012 (which is a little frustrating seeing as in how the one I sent back to be replaced with this one was made in May 2015)
Hi there @rcollins218?Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you purchased a new monitor and it was DOA, and that your replacement is becoming unresponsive after about 5 minutes or so of use. I am happy to help you with this. I thank you for the detail you have included in your post about the testing you have tried with multiple interfaces and computers, To me the fact that there is no change at all, between any of them suggests a hardware fault, and that is equally frustrating as you had a DOA monitor in the first place. If you haven't already, I would suggest you try looking at this document, and try the factory reset.HP and Compaq Flat Panel Displays - Display Quality Issues Press the Auto or Autoselect button on the monitor.Press Menu, and select Factory Reset. If the monitor has more than one type of connection available such as VGA, DVI, or HDMI, try a different type of connection. If the problem remains, then it is most likely a hardware issue. In that case I would recommend contacting phone support, and let the person know the details of your situation, including your original purchase date. Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. I have a HP Pavilion 27xi that will randomly turn black and unresponsive. The way to make it work again is to unplug it from the power source and plug it back in. When I have gone to reset the monitor to factory settings nothing happens.
Of course, I too am having problems with my "HP Pavilion 27xi IPS LED Backlit Monitor". The screen going black for about two minutes and comes back for about 15 minutes. I used a different monitor and it worked fine. A new power brick didn't stop the "cut to black" problem either. All the power/hibernate/sleep functions are set to never. The power light goes out and won't come back on until the screen comes back. This leads me to believe the problem is in the monitor. I also believe it is related to the power section but not the power brick. When it is up, there is nothing to idicate that there is a problem.Read other 2 answers
I've had this monitor for about a year. It is currently connected to a Lenovo laptop through a docking station. It was previously connected to a Dell laptop through a different docking station, and this problem has occurred with both computers / docking station combinations. At random, the screen will go black. When this happens, the on / off button stays illimuninated with the same color as it is when the screen is on. This could happen multiple times in as few as 10 minutes, or not at all throughout an entire day. When it is occurring frequently, I have opened the laptop to see if its screen is doing the same thing, but it is not. Another thing that happens less frequently, but may or may not be related is the display will skew slightly. This also occurs randomly. Other than this problem, it is a great monitor. Does anyone know why this may be happening and how I can correct / get it corrected?Read other answers
So as the title states my monitor that I got about a year ago keeps flickering on for a fraction of a second and then staying off. at first I thought it was a virus or something. But when I switched cabled from my other pavilion 27 xi, the broken one contenued to have issues while the non broken one is fine with the same cable. Also because I am doing a poor job of describing this. My Win7 64-bit Lenovo Laptop has 2 Paviion 27xi montors connected via DVI. The primary monitor will go to sleep after my defined 15 minutes BUT it will wakeup every 30 seconds and flash the monitor's "Going to sleep" message. The 2nd monitor stays a asleep until keyboard or mouse activity really wakes the system up. I have applied the latest driver version 2.0 released in 02/2014 and the monitor's perpetual "going to sleep" message continues to flash on screen every 30 seconds. Please advise if you have a solution. I want and need the monitors to go to sleep automatically after 15 minutes and stay asleep. So suggesting that I disable the monitor sleep function is not a viable solution. I feel it is a bug in HP's driver, but who knows, there may be a setting that can solve this too. (My previous dual DVI Dell monitors behaved nicely and did not perptually wake up the primary monitor like the HP's are exhibiting.)
Hello szynda, Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? This is easily verified simply switch your inputs make the secondary the primary and vise versa, if the issue persists over to the secondary monitor it is a driver if it does not then it is hardware. If it is the driver I would suggest you try reinstalling the driver from the HP My Display driver page for the HP Pavilion 27xi 27-inch Diagonal IPS LED Backlit Monitor. Last tuesday I've received my new laptop / netbook: Asus X205TA. After installing everything I found out that my brightness isn't adjusting. I've tried to:
- Use all different ways to adjust brightness (charms bar, shortcut, power plan settings etc.)
- Windows update
- Update Microsoft Basic Display Adapter drivers (there are no updates available)
- Disable and re-enable the Display Adapter
Yet: it's not working. I've also have a problem booting up games. Even the simplest of games (as the netbook is low-spec) are either not booting up, or they show errors about not being able to access the video card or so. I wonder whether these issues have something to do with the brightness settings.
I'd appreciate any input from you guys

I have a NIVIDIA RIVA TNT2 MODEL 64P monitor with Windows XP installed. The brightness, color etc. on the monitor seem to be at the max but all images/pictures/movie files etc are very dark. Is there any other way to adjust the brightness on the monitor?
I think that's just your video card type. If your monitor is old and this has been gradually getting worse then it could be going. You can usually adjust the brightness with your video card settings.
Right click desktop, choose properties, settings, advanced. You may have to try a few of the tabs to find the controls.
I have a HP dv6 laptop, intel core I3, 4 GB, running windows 7 sp1.
The issue is the brightness will rapidly adjust itself intermittently. This is a new problem, Im not sure if there is any settings I can adjust or whatnot before taking it in for repair. Any help is appreciated!
Is there a hotkey button to adjust the brightness on the laptop? If so maybe it is stuck or sticking.
EDIT: My sister has the same laptop try holding the Fn button and tapping the F7 and F8 buttons to adjust the brightness. Those buttons might be sticking causing the issue.
well when my laptop is plugged in it shows maxiumum brightness, but when its not plugged in it become brighter, yet brightness setting shows in the middle, for not plugged in, how can i get the plugged in brightness to equal unplugged brightness, and I have tried changing power settings.
First of all, please specify maker and model of your laptop. Some vendors could have their own third party replacements for some functions.
Also, please go to Control Panel - Power Options - on the right side of your current active power plan select "Change plan settings" - in the next window click "Change ADVANCED power settings" - then navigate to - Display - Display brightness and check percentage.
I've recently got a new computer laptop with Windows 7 and the first thing I noticed that the screen is much brighter (and maybe more saturated) than my previous laptop (with Windows XP). First I thought it was my laptop, but then I saw an other computer with Windows 7, and the screen there is very bright too. I searched the net and I see that there are more people complaining about the brightness on Windows 7.
I understand that I can set the screen brightness, but it seems like a fact that the "default" brightness on Windows 7 is way brighter than on Windows XP. Some people are probably accustomed to this, but to me it's too much. I can decrease the brightness with the laptopl's controls on the keyboard, but I think that's not the way to go - I think I should look at the Windows 7 configuration. I could go to the ATI Catalyst, but is there an other way? Is the Calibration tool the only option?
And the second question, if this is a common problem, maybe there are some known settings that would take Windows 7 brightness closer to Windows XP and earlier versions?
If these are new laptops then, yes they will be brighter then older computers. But it has nothing to do with Windows. It has to do with the display themselves. A lot of the new LCDs on modern laptops are brighter quite a bit brighter then previous generations in part, moving to LEDs for the backlight.Read other 6 answers

So its like the brightness is adjusting automatically depending on the virtual environment. I looked up the forum for similiar problems and tried some things with the power options and stuff but couldnt not fix it..
However this does not happen when the adapter is plugged in, everything stays equal all the time,

I recently upgraded from WIN98SE to WINXP. Before the upgrade I used to go into my Display settings to adjust the brightness on my monitor through the video card, but now through XP I cannot find that function. My video card is a Nvidia Riva TNT2 64MB card. I have a brightness adjustment in the monitor settings, but that is already adjusted at 100% and I need to adjust up a little bit more. Does that make sense? Does someone know where I can find this now that I am on XP?
Uninstall your NVidia display adapter. Run one of these to be sure all the driver files are removed: Driver Cleaner Professional or Nasty File Remover.
Then, install the most recent driver:
You'll find color, brightness, gamma adjustments in the advanced display properties and a separate adjustment for DirectX overlays, such as video player windows.

Hi everyone, I have a pretty weird tech problem.
What happens is, whenever I adjust my monitor's brightness (from its physical buttons) the screen turns black. However the monitor is still on, the LED is still green and the computer is still responsive, the screen just turns black.
I can use the computer just fine, as long as I don't try to adjust anything. If I do want to change something, I have to change the values a little, then restart, change them again, restart until I have the values I want. This problem appeared when I tried to adjust the brightness by keeping the + button pressed down, so it increased quickly.
Is this indicative of a dying monitor ? It is pretty old, it's an LG L1750SQ, 17 inch LCD, it's over 4 years old. Also, I do not believe the video card to the problem, since it stays pretty cool, it has a good heatsink on it.

I recently purchased a customized notebook from HP in which I added the feature of a backlit keyboard. I have an older model notebook that I use for work which has this feature also. The work notebook's keyboard light will turn on when I am typing, then turn off a short time later with inactivity. I would like my new laptop to function similarly. As of now, my new notebook's keyboard will light up after I turn it on manually using the F5/backlight button. I can shut it off using the same function, but it will stay on until I shut it off manually. I have attempted speaking with HP Support Techs who had me update the keyboard drivers and BIOS, neither of which made any difference in the keyboard's functionality. They recommended I send in my machine as it must be a hardware issue, but I feel that it would be senseless because I'm not even sure that it is possible to have this type of functionality with my new machine. Does anyone know if it's even a possibility for this option to be enabled? How is it that one of my devices works this way and the other does not? What steps can I take to gain this feature on my new Pavilion? Thank you!

Anybody know of a fix for this?
This is a beta operating system - presumably the problem will be fixed before late October when WIn 7 is released. For now, you cannot expect a manufacturer to support an OS that has yet to be released.
