I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I am a Field Services Technician for my company and I am seeing an issue with the 380s and their docks where when an external monitor is used, that monitor is often fuzzy/hazy. It's still usable but it is hard on the eyes and not pleasant to look at. I have tried everything. I have tried updating to the latest video drivers, I have tried changing monitors, cables, and docks. I have tried setting the display to the external monitor only and having the user log in and out (made it worse) and then I've also tried this method with the laptop sat as the only display (made it better but still degraded). I have tried display cables, VGA cables, and display to DVI cables. Nothing seems to change this.  If I had to guess I'd say it's some sort of scaling issue between the laptop native resolution and the monitor's native resolution because the laptop display looks pristine but I have seen it to where the external monitor looks pristine and the laptop is the issue. What is causing this and how do I make it stop?  I'm at a loss and really need this issue to be resolved.

Dear all,
Wonder if you can help me solve a problem. I have just received an XPS13-9350 from the Outlet last week. It was certified refurbished.
I've tried to connect a VGA monitor to it via a USB-C to HDMI, then HDMI to VGA cable. The HDMI to VGA cable works perfectly on my Inspiron 15. The setup also works if I full power down the XPS13, attach USB-C to HDMI to VGA to monitor, and then boot up. The external monitor then works almost perfectly (with the exception of Netflix's video player which makes it flicker blue - Youtube and local video are completely fine).
What I cannot do is plug in this monitor whilst the XPS13 is on already - which is inconvenient as I move on and off desk a lot, and powering down the computer every time is unhelpful. Oddly, the monitor will also not be recognised if I simply Restart from Windows. I have to fully power down and plug everything in before switching the computer on again.
I have updated BIOS, video card and Thunderbolt drivers since and none of these has solved the problem. My system info is:
DELL XPS13-9350
Windows 10
Core i7-6560U, Intel Iris 540 graphics

I have a Dell U2711 monitor. I have been using it with my Mac (bare with me!) for several years without a problem. I am looking at switching back (my current mac is showing some issues) and getting the New XPS 13. What I am now concerned about is whether my monitor will work at all. As it is an older monitor, I doubt it can do DisplayPort Alt Mode, let alone HDMI. Because of the issues with current Dell docks, I am looking at the Kensington SD4600P. Has anyone had any success using this monitor with any current dell laptop?

I am stuggling with my Yoga 920 and USBC adapter. I researched and got a good one (I believe), a HooToo HT-UC001S 100W, HDMI monitor/charger/usb and it was working perfectly.  Then after a windows update a week ago, it is now very unreliable. It will work 1 out of 20 times. Everything works reliably except the external monitor, the PC does not recognize it at all. I've been trying to decode drivers and settings to no avail. Spent hour+ on chat with Lenovo. I have also tried a second simple USBC-HDMI adpater that worked before on this PC and on others. Confounding everything is that it does work if I unplug and replug the adapter with just the right timing (I'm certain it is not a flakey connector because everything else works perfectly). I feel like if I knew what driver and how to roll back, things might return to operational status... but that might just be wishful thinking... Does anybody else have this problem?

My old dell laptop L502x is a bit quirky and caused me to buy a desktop, however, i think it is still saveable. when i have it display to an external monitor via hdmi, it works 100% with no problems. however, when i use the monitor that is physically attached to the laptop, i will get a " A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor" BSOD. from what i've gathered over numerous crashes, i believe its a problem with the integrated graphics in the processor, since they are not used when outputting via hdmi. i could be wrong tho, any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, all, I have a Dell XPS 15 laptop and recently bought a Asus MB169B external USB monitor.  When I plug the monitor in, the laptop monitor (not the external monitor) flickers about every half second.  If I unplug it, it stops.  I upgraded my video driver to no avail.
Is it simply a power supply issue (the external monitor  does not have a power cord)?  Anything I can do?  It does it even if I have the laptop plugged in and charging.
*something interesting - I just discovered if I duplicate the display and not extend the flickering goes away...but that kind of defeats the point of a dual monitor for me.

A:dell xps 15 monitor flickering after connecting external usb monitor

What is the exact system model?
Have you connected the external monitor to a dock or hub or directly to the system USB port?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check.
Reinstall the video drivers and chipset drivers for the system from the above link and check.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

I have a Dell Precision 5510.
I have it hooked up to an external monitor using dual screen
The sound from a video on youtube (etc) works fine when the external monitor is unplugged, BUT NOT WHEN THE MONITOR IS PLUGGED IN. This confuses me.  Is there a solution?
Thank you.

A:5510: Audio from websites not working when external monitor is also hooked up. (But Skype sound still working)

Hello. What might be happening is after you connect to the external display, the audio switches to HDMI audio. To get the audio to emit from the laptop's speakers again, go to the Windows Sounds dialog and make Speakers the default playback device (right click). You might have to do this every time you connect an HDMI cable.

I have a XPS 15 (L502X), I wish to add a 24 inch external monitor to it.
My requirements are Moderate Gaming,  Movies, Application Programming, and occasional reading.
I did some googling and created this shortlist:

BenQ GW2470
BenQ RL2455HM
BenQ EW2440ZH
Dell S Series S2415H

I have read all about ghosting effect, color leakage and slower response time while gaming. Not sure how to determine what is good. I am inclined towards BenQ GW2470 as it is new, cheap and also has good reviews.
I would like to know if any of these are good options, or if there are other options that are better. I am looking for products available in Indian market.

We got two new Dell XPS 13 for users and there does not seem to be any video out ports like on previous models.  This runs Windows 10 Professional and has an internal screen resolution of 1920x1080.  Looks like there is 2 USB 3.0 super speed ports and possibly a (thunderbolt)??? port?
I've heard of USB-C so I'm not sure if this one port on the left side is that, or if its thunderbolt.  I googled thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and in all the images I find it always shows a mini display port on one end despite the descriptions saying thunderbolt.

So whats the cheapest way to get HDMI out on this laptop?

A:How do I connect an external monitor to a new Dell XPS 13?

The Thunderbolt( USB Type C port) on the Left Hand side deals with the video output on the system. You will need to purchase a USB Type C to HDMI adapter to display video.
The cable is available on the Dell website here

One simple question:
Has anyone succesfully connected the Dell XPS 15 9950 to an external monitor that runs on 2560x1440 @144Hz?
I have asked Dell employees over chat in three different countries, they all say different things.
I would think that one could use the thunderbolt3 enabled usb-c port to do this by running a usb-c to displayport cable to the monitor.
I have searched the internet for a week and didnt find an conclusive answer.
The usb-c to displayport cable exists (Plugable and Startech makes them) and both are capable of driving an external monitor @144hz, but it is unknown if Dell supports this.
I would love to find out your experiences! If you have experience with other resolutions @144hz, or even @120hz, let me know as well!
If it's not possible it's a dealbreaker for me.

As the subject suggests, I have a Dell Precision M3800.  I have always used dual monitor with no issue.
My previous screen was an old Samsung 23 Inch (don't know the model exactly) and connected via Mini DP to HDMI.  Worked a dream.
Manage to find a buyer and though - "Let me upgrade - get a Dell Monitor - Dell plays well with Dell".
So got the Dell E2416H Monitor - with a Min DP to DP cable - for the past month I have not been able to fix an issue where by the screen does not refresh itself when you type or a sql comand finishes processing - just looks like it's still process even though it completed minutes ago - but the screen did not refresh the basics of what a monitor should display.
This is such an irritating that I have even gone to the extent of buying a USB 3 docking station and running through DisplayLink - with joy.
Please let me know if someone has a solution that differs from my all my colleagues - their advice is to go buy a Samsung monitor.

If all you get on the monitor is the 2 lines I would think the the laptop is screwed. The only thing you can try is taking the laptop apart and unplugging the display panel and see if it the external monitor works then. I assume that the monitor works fine everwhere else. You can check out www.dell.com and see if theres any known issues with external monitors and your laptop aswell.

Many settings in the full Control Panel are missing from the drop down tree. Do I need to get full Control Panel software somewhere?

Hi Everyone,
every time I plug in an external monitor to the HDMI port it flickers, but flickers the screen goes black and then displays a screen. There is no pattern to how it flickers, eg, hitting the cable or typing on the keyboard.
This occurs whether using an adapter converting to Video cable or simple a HDMI Cable. I have now used multiple monitors to verify it's not a monitor issue.
Any ideas as to what to do?

I got this laptop recently and ran into an issue when connecting to external displays, in all games I am unable to set my video settings to 60Hz when choosing to project my display to the external screen only. If I duplicate the screen then I have no issue, but I want to be able to close the laptop lid and have 60Hz as an option, otherwise everything shows up as 59Hz which causes stuttering and flickering. The weird thing is that in Windows my refresh rate shows up as 60Hz at 1920x1080 but when launching any game 59Hz is the highest I can go to when set to display as "second screen only" in Windows 10. My Dell Inspiron 3437 ( Core i5, 4th Gen) screen suddenly stopped work couple of days ago, now it just worked for external monitor. What I done for the issue ( I did all works by an external monitor)
1. Taking a Diagnostics for all hardware no problem.
2. Using function key but no help.
3. Flashing new bios ( A10), the computer display worked!  but the screen did not display again when I restarted the computer.
4. I tried re-flash bios, but the bios program won't let me to flash same bios version.
5. I tested the screen on another laptop, it worked perfect.
So I guessed the computer BIOS chip corrupt.
Anybody can help?

A:****** Dell inspiron 3437 only works external monitor********

If the system boots to Windows, it's not a BIOS problem.  Check the display settings - if they look correct, but there is no display image, you either have a bad display panel or a bad GPU (i.e., mainboard).  Hold the D key through powerup -- if you do see the built in display test (cycling solid color screens), the display is bad - meaning the mainboard is the problem.  If you don't see that, the display needs to be replaced.

I am having occasional problems with my laptop's screen appearing on the external monitor after waking up from "sleep."  Here is my setup:  the T430s laptop is connected to Dell U2713HM monitor via cable attached to the mini Display Port and via USB port.  Dongle for the wireless keyboard and mouse is attached to USB port on monitor.  Usually, after laptop goes to sleep, moving the mouse or keyboard will result in the logon screen appearing on the external monitor.   However, intermittently, after the laptop goes to sleep, the external screen will remain dark after moving the mouse or striking a keyboard key.   If I open the laptop cover, the log on screen will appear.   Thus, the laptop will get a signal from the dongle via the USB cable.  However, monitor will remain dark.   I used to be able to get the external screen to display the desktop by removing and reinserting the mini display port plug into the port on the laptop.  However, over the past month this no longer works.   At this point, the only way to get the external monitor to display what appears on the laptop is to reboot, which is usually a pain as I often have 20-35 windows open at any one time.  Dell said the problem was with the laptop.   Lenovo said I needed a new motherboard and I have an on-site warranty that will expire in 24 days.   So, the tech that came to replace the motherboard thought problem was not with motherboard, but with the ... I just recently purchased an adapter from Amazon HERE...

After going through the run around with customer support, my issue is still not solved.

I am trying to connect an external monitor through HDMI via the adapter linked above, but an unable to solve the issue.  My laptop recognizes the external monitor is plugged in, and is functioning as you would expect with an external monitor (i.e. two screens, dragging between two screens, etc...).  However, it seems as though the laptop is not sending any video output to the external monitor.
I have updated all drivers and installers that were recommended to me by Dell customer support.  Additionally, I had changed a setting in the BIOS to disable some sort of USBC or Thunderbolt 3.0 security, as per recommendation in the comments of the linked (above) product.

Get a 22" Dell monitor and connect it to the vga port on your laptop. There is an Fn + (some other key) that will enable the external monitor. You can press the Fn+(some other key) combination so that either the laptop display is used, the external display is used or have it set so both are used for the display. Typically the combination is the Fn key plus one of the F keys at the top of you keyboard.

Unfortunately, no remedy yet.

Changed Display Port cable to primary monitor, did not help.
Monitors are not daisy chained, but connected individually to dock to allow older systems to dock.
Would appreciate any advice.

A:Unresolved 2-3s blinking of external monitor at Dell E-Port Plus II Dock

We had this issue and it was resolved by a firmware update to the MST hub built into the system.  Go to support.dell.com, select your system, select Drivers and Downloads, and search "MST".  Note that sometimes if the OS selected by default there is the one you want, you have to choose some other OS and then switch back for anything to appear.  Anyway, the update you're looking for is Synaptics-VMM3320-MST-HUB-Firmware-Updater_DJG3X_WIN_3.12.1_A03.EXE.  I'd post a link, but most of the time that causes posts to get stuck in moderator queues.  Note that when you run the update, you have to have the system docked with an external display connected and in use, and then restart afterward.

Hi Community,
I have a Dell XPS 17 l702x with a totally broken Monitor. Win 10 (x64) is installed and used to run propperly. When the Monitor got broken (the plastic hinges broke out) ,I planned to use it without the original Monitor, maybe only as a Network Computer. Spending money for the repair doesn´t make sense. So I totally removed the monitor - with the result, that I get the 8 beep post Bios error sounds - and Windows doesn´t mount. To see whats going on, I tried to connect a Monitor on the HDMI port (which used to be fine when Windows was running) - but now I don´t get any signal. So I don´t see anything.I would like to see the bios on external (configure the Notebook to use only external) and somehow start the running system. Any ideas how this could be resolved?Best regards, Micha
