Q: Laptop Camera and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader does not ...

After upgrading to Windows 10, I see atleast 2 things stopped working- 1)Camera - I tested with Skype and its not able to locate webcam. I checked in 'device manager' and can not find 'imaging device' listed there. Laptop camera is 'HP TrueVision HD' which is not working.FYI: Laptop 'Settings' -> Camera is 'on' -> Skype is also 'on'==>This is a VERY HIGH priority issue for me as I have my skype job interview scheduled and need to fix ASAP please. 2) HP SimplePass Fingerprint reader is not working and I can no longer login using that. But this is not a high priority issue and can be dealt with later. Request your help please. Product Name: HP ENVY m6 Notebook PCProduct Number: C2N76UA#ABA RegardsPawan

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My fingerprint reader hasn't worked in months. It stopped working after I installed its driver update.I successfully (?) installed WIN10 and EVERYTHING is working - EXCEPT the fingerprint reader.I suspect the SimplePass software is to blame.Device Manager  says the Biometric Device Validity Sensor (WBF) is working properly.I called Softex but no live Tech Support was available. I left a message, nobody returned my call.

A:How do i disable the SimplePass fingerprint reader for now?

It is best to leave things as they are as long as the software is quiescent. This way it is a simple matter to reinstate your enrollment when you wish to use SimplePass logins. Merry Christmas!

I have been trying to get fingerprint reader to work ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 last year.  The first issue: when I try to scan my fingerprint in the Simplepass program, I click which finger and scan but nothing happens. Clearly, the program does not work with Windows 10. I then saw this same Q on another forum and they had a link to download simplepass update, which I did. It would not install. I even went to the actual HP site to download the latest simplepass upgrade but it still does not work. While installing, I get the following error message "Please uninstall Authentec fingerprint software then try to install again." I looked in my entire computer, via search, control panel, uninstall programs, etc. and there is no such program on my computer. Anyone else have this problem and a possible solution? Much appreciated!

I have a T460s on a fresh install of Win10. I just bought an external USB fingerprint reader https://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-PQI-Matching-Biometric-Security/dp/B06XG4MHFJ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&....My hope was that when my laptop was docked (on a ThinkPad Pro dock), I could plug it into a USB port on my external keyboard and login using it. For the time being, I'm just trying to get it working with the laptop undocked (i.e. forget about external keyboards, USB hubs etc.). Starting from scratch (i.e. fingerprints cleared in both Windows and the BIOS, and the external USB NOT plugged in), I setup the internal fingerprint reader, add prints, and am able login with no problem. When I plug in the external reader, drivers install just fine.  I enrolled a different finger, and was able to login just fine. However, when I unplug the external USB reader, I am never able to get the internal reader working again.  With the external unplugged and after a full restart, the internal will still not let me log in: the fingerprint option doesn?t even show up at the Windows login screen. The only way I can get the internal working again is by plugging the external in again (so that it appears in Device Manager), uninstalling both fingerprint devices (just uninstalling the external USB does not work), restarting the computer, and reenrolling my fingerprint using the internal. I know there is an option in the BIOS to just use the internal re... My AVG 2013 did expire for 1 day this week. So guess what now? Yesterday my screen cursor seemed to be moving on its own and/or in very jerked fashion. Replaced mouse battery even though behavior was different. Rebooted computer (probably unfortunately) and system will not recognize built in fingerprint reader anymore. Logged into Guest account. Behavior same. Ran AVG 2013 virus scan. Stalled after about 10 hrs of running. Ran again this morning, said ran 100% with no errors.Problems persist. Cant use laptop it's so slow. I am convinced that the fingerprint reader is fine. There must be some issue with the driver perhaps, something incompatible with a recent Windows 7 software update? The scenario:Laptop working fine.  I put it to sleep when I'm done and use the mousepad to wake it up.  The fingerprint reader LED will blink, and I can swipe my finger to log on.At some point, after a few times of putting laptop to sleep and waking up, the fingerprint reader does not respond.  No blinking LED.  I swipe my finger and the reader does not respond at all -- doesn't even tell me that there was a bad read.If I log off and log back on again, no change. However, if I do a reboot, everything is fine--the fingerprint reader is working again.   I have looked up time and time again for new drivers and installed.  Nothing seems to affect this scenario.   Unfortunately, this started happening about 9 months ago (estimated) and because of the sporadic nature of it, I just wasn't observant enough to know the "precise point" in time when it started happening.  My instincts tell me that there has been some kind of software/driver update along the way that is causing the fingerprint reader not to work right.  I would hope that HP continues a relationship with these fingerprint reader companies and can convey these kinds of issues so that a software update can be made.  But... I have no idea if it has been discontinued.  My laptop is still under warra... Read more

No problems, I completely got that I shouldn't bother with Simple Pass version 8.  I went ahead and installed version 6.  I still didn't get any joy, so I did a little more digging and found a later Validity Sensor driver, version 4.3.304 (not noted in the driver update list for my laptop model).  THIS WORKED.  I can now go into hibernate mode and the fingerprint reader remains funtional when the system is brought out of hibernation.  Previously it was pretty much guaranteed to become disabled.  So... seems like my problem is solved now.

So earlier today, I logged into my computer seamlessly with the fingerprint scanner multiple times. Then, all of a sudden, the light has stopped working and I can't login with the scanner no matter how many times I attempt it. I've opened up simplepass, and it seems to think there's no problem with it. When I try to register a new finger, it simply gives me the directions and says 0% (no "not connected" or anything like that). When I swipe my finger it doesn't recognize it, though, and it stays at 0% until I press cancel. What should I do. I've already rebooted the computer and that hasn't seemed to work.

Hi guys, my old digital camera from long long ago died on me. It had been a FujiFilm A330 3.2MP with one of those small SD cards, and I needed to buy a SanDisk card-reader because my laptops didn't include card-slots.

That's the sum total of my experience with digi-cameras. I.E. the $100 FujiFilm camera plus SD card reader.

The Fuji had been WAY over-qualified for my needs (i explain why further down), so at this point, I'm truly just looking for the lowest-end non-zoom camera, which pics I can get onto computer for printing.
I don't mean a cellphone-camera, rather an independent camera.

NOTE: ... I still have an old Win-XP laptop with no card slots, rather just USB 2.0 slots.

I truly don't need zoom (zoom is prone to breakdown) - because I merely take pics of objects around the house which I need repair-help with. Such as a broken window - so that I can take a printout to the hardware store and best explain my window-repair-needs.

Based on the above, I'd appreciate guidance, such as which camera(s)?
...and which card-reader is compatible with my ancient-thinkpad-R52 laptop? Thanks!

A:Need Low-end camera-buying advice +card-reader for old laptop?

How small? There are sd cards and microsd cards.

The one on the left is a microsd card. It is 1/2" by 5/8"
The item on the right is a holder for it and the same size as an sd card. An sd card measures 1" by 1 3/8".

I bought a sd only card reader cheap at Ollies.
It's a Vivitar and this is what it looks like.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/811411-REG/Vivitar_VIV_CR_35_SD_Card_Reader.html

I never use my digital cameras. I bought a 7" android tablet and found it easier to carry and take pictures than a camera.

Think about a cheap tablet. You can take a picture, carry the tablet to the hardware store and show the picture(s) to the staff there.

When you finish with the pictures, you can delete them from the tablet.

Good day,
Got my new and shiny E7470, but there is some trouble in paradise.
Is there a way to improve fingerprint reader? This thing is complete <profanity>. Half of the time it does not recognize the finger and when it recognized, it just takes too long. Updated all drivers and software to the latest, as per dell support suggestion. Still <profanity> :D My old Vostro 3350 FP reader works better in any case.
And the second question is, can the nfc read tags? Installed a couple of programs from windows store, but they do not show the tags info. When the sound is on and I place a tag on the reader, there is chime and that is all. Device manager shows, that device is active and working without problems.
NFC card should be Mifare Plus.

I have only had my laptop for a week - the fingerprint reader stopped working 2 days after I bought it. I have tried everything: removing and re-installing various drivers and software, stopping and starting Credentials Manager, unchecking the box that allows the computer to turn the reader off to save power, etc. I have gotten it to the point where it functions when the computer is logged in, but not after sleep. It works once if you restart the computer, but after waking it from sleep it does not initialize. (no light or anything) However, if you "lock" the desktop from the start menu, the reader will log it in again. Should I upgrade the laptop to have a fingerprint reader and what features do fingerprint readers have now?

Thanks!

A:Fingerprint Reader

Pretty much that's it. I believe you can also preprogram website passwords into it so you can login with one swipe, but the only websites that don't automatically log you in are banking sites and sites that the reader won't recognize the login screen on anyways.

I had a computer last year for school that had a finger print scanner, and it got used very little.

fingerprint scanners are far more reliable that the webcam facial recognition that some laptops have, but it's easy to just type in your password.

Depends on the make and model of the system and the software that comes bundled with the fingerprint reader. That should be available with the documentation that came with your system.

@Usman_Ahmad? You can use the Fingerprint Driver listed for your notebook at your Driver pages:Synaptics (Validity) Fingerprint Sensor Driver Driver:sp74167 Synaptics-Validity Driver V4.5.321.0A Commentary Windows 10 provides its own "fingerprint logon" software program set.  You do not need any other security software installed to use the Windows 10 logon.  Windows 10 (fingerprint) logon does not work with websites; Windows logon will get you into the computer by letting you use a fingerprint to log into your account. Windows 10 requires that you assign a PIN number in PC Settings > Sign-in Options to enable the fingerprint scanner.  Why?  Microsoft has added this additional security to allow access to the fingerprint scanner / software.  It is best if you write down / remember the PIN -- you will need it if the fingerprint software fails - and this does happen.  Nice thing about PIN -- it is tied to the hardware; no one can use it to remotely log into your computer.  NOTE:  You still need a Windows Password assigned to your account (ie., your local password or your Microsoft password used for password logins) -- PIN and password are not related.  PIN allows you access to fingerprint and perhaps other login methods (Hello, Picture). Additional Local Admin AccountAdditionally, it might be a good idea to add an additional local account that has administrative privileges.  If you... I have a dell usb fingerprint reader that worked on Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit and won't work on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. In vista I installed Dell Embassy Suit and it took care of everything for me. Of course vista didn't install its own driver to it. The minute I plugged in the fingerprint reader to Windows 7 it installed a driver. However this driver must not be any good because Windows 7 does not recognize it as a fingerprint reader when I try to enable its use to log onto Windows. Dell Embassy Suit can use the reader, but for some reason when I try to store fingerprints it will give me an error. Sometimes when I log onto Windows it will ask me to slide my fingerprint. When I do this it just asks for my user name and password directly after I swipe my finger. Its not super important, but I would like to get it working. Thanks for any help in advanced! -Kevin

With Facebook, you have to be a bit creative to add its login to DigitalPersona fingerprint system. You have to do this only once, afterwards you can then use your fingerprint to login.

First, leave email and password fields empty and click Login.
New window opens telling about incorrect login credentials.
On this page you can setup fingerprint login normally.

I am thinking about buying a fingerprint reader and I would like to know the pros and the cons.

A:Fingerprint Reader Why or Why Not?

Pros:

Can be useful with the right Win 7 compatible software - log in to forms/passwords.

Cons:

Your finger can be cut off to gain access, and even with a password, your system can be compromised, so options will need to adjusted in the software.

I check in the bios, no error..

Thanks in advance

I realize this is not answering your question.... but I suggest you do some reading on the pros & cons of fingerprint readers.

If somebody steals your fingerprints, you're pretty much out of luck for the rest of your life. You wouldn't be able to use your prints as a form of identification until you were absolutely sure all copies had been destroyed. There's no way to get new prints.

I have 3 HP laptops here with fingerprint readers. I consider them part of HP's bloatware & as such are never used.

I've been using Windows 7 Ultimate for a few years now with AuthenTec Protector Suite 2012 installed and a TrueMe fingerprint reading device.

The Protector Suite software allowed me to login to windows using a fingerprint and to use fingerprints to open password protected files as well as entering passwords into web screens. The software maintained a database, which allowed any entry of a password to be stored against a fingerprint.

Consequently, I've become used to simply swiping the fingerprint reader to enter all my passwords. Brilliant!

Along comes Windows 10 and I can't get Protector Suite 2012 to install. It gives the error "To use this product, Windows Biometric Framework must be enabled.". I can successfully setup Windows 10 Hello to use the fingerprint reader to login to Windows 10, but this is a small fraction of the potential of using fingerprints.

Anyone any idea on how to enable Windows Biometric Framework. By the way I've already tried using gpedit.msc to Enable "Allow the use of biometrics" but this doesn't appear to make the slightest bit of difference.

Alternatively, is there any Windows 10 compatible software out there that will do more than simply allow me to use my fingerprint reader to login. I would like to use it to enter passwords for protected files and web page inputs.

I performed a clean, fresh install of Windows 10 Pro alongside my existing Windows 7 Ultimate, so I can dual boot. Until I get ALL the functionality I ... Read more

My new laptop has a fingerprint reader and software that allows me to log into sites such as SevenForums with my fingerprint. The problem is, it is only a free trial and keeps asking me to buy it which is incredibly annoying. Being that I spent $1545 on this laptop, I don't really feel like spending more for such software. Does anyone know of any good free software for this?

By any chance are you using UPEK? I don't know of any Open-Source/Freeware apps that do what UPEK does in this case

Windows only allows for just logging in with its' built-in ability

Hi everyone and thanks for any help or advice in advance.

I have an HP elitebook 8440p laptop, windows 7 professional.

I took it apart and replaced the motherboard.

Put it back together and amazingly it seems to be working fine.

However it is not detecting the fingerprint reader, google seems to suggest that this is to do with BIOS settings.

So I tried to change them to enable the fingerprint reader on the next boot up.

But it wants a password which I dont have.

Google says I can bypass this with a code that I get when the Bios login fails and locks out, then enter that code as a checksum into a password regenerator.

But I don't get any code when the login fails and it locks up.

It seems possible that I could reset the bios including passsword by removing the CMOS battery and all power but thats not definite for all laptops, and as it took me ages to put it together, not particularly keen to take it all apart again.

Gave up at that point and decided to throw myself at your mercy ??

Thanks again,

Rumi
