Solved: Want to Remove Comodo Firewall and use Win7's built-in Firewall

Q: Solved: Want to Remove Comodo Firewall and use Win7's built-in Firewall

I recently installed the freeware firewall of Comodo in my Win7 PC. However I am not too happy because of some problems and would like to remove Comodo and simply use the firewall that came with Win7 (I am using the Home Edition of Win7).

I had a hitch that probably both firewalls are somehow enabled on my Win7 PC. I went into Control Panel and turned off the bult-in Firewall of Win7 but it now show the message (or maybe the icon) that firewall is not present (EVEN though I already have COMODO installed). SO that's the first question/confusion I am facing.

The 2nd question is that how do I uninstall COMODO in a very clean manner. I remember froma long time back when I tried to remove Norton Anti-Virus and it simply refused to un-install. Will I face a similar problem when trying to remove Comodo.

Last but not least, will be very thankful if you can share tips regarding what settings I need to put in place for the Windows Firewall to work effectively. Based on what I have read, the default configuration of Win7's firewall has a lot of room for improvement and I would like it to be as secure as my favourite firewall (which I use on XP) i.e. Sygate.

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Firewall Issue(s) - Windows XP Professional & Comodo Firewall Pro

Friday/December 3rd 2007: This morning I was looking at the features and settings of Comodo Firewall Pro Version Accidentally I clicked ‘no’ when a learned prompt came up asking if I wanted to allow Avast Free Edition to connect to the net. I believe it was Avast. Anyway I figured I would uninstall and reinstall to correct the settings, no big deal, or so I thought.

When windows started back up and gave me the security alert prompt (Control Panel > Windows Security Center) and I figured no big deal. However it was saying “Comodo is not installed bla bla bla.” When I enabled XP Professional’s firewall, window’s message said, “Comodo was working, etc.”

Windows Firewall worked within normal parameters as far as I could tell otherwise. I will try to recreate issue buy uninstalling and will post detailed results later with screen shots.

Sunday/December 9th 2007: I tried recreating the incident and my results confuse me. Windows XP Professional Security Center Says “Comodo Firewall not on bla, bla, bla.” However, when I turn on XP’s firewall it says “Windows Firewall is on bla, bla, bla. So why when I turn off windows firewall does it say that “Comodo” not windows firewall is disabled?

How would I correct this?

Thank you.

Hi and thanks for viewing this thread. I hope you can help me!
I have a few questions which I will number and I hope you can answer them in detail, as it would be much appreciated. (I am using W7 64-Bit)

1. Is Comodo Firewall reccomended? (I am using it currently but am unsure, as I have heard about some scandals pertaining to Comodo, but wanted to get your opinions) and what are other, perhaps better alternatives if there are any?

2. Should I run Comodo Firewall or any other firewall with Windows Firewall on?

3. Why does Windows Firewall have a "Domain Profile" with the firewall turned on, but a "Private Profile" with it turned off?

4. What is the advantage of using the option to join Comodo's custom DNS server when installing the firewall?

Any other insight or help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks so much for your help!

A:Comodo Firewall v7 vs. ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall 2015 v13

The best protection is based upon the user's habits, so both could give some users the same protection level.
You could not apply this to all users since some are reckless and neither one would be able to provide protection.

Comodo Firewall has HIPS which is more likely to flag more false positives which most inexperienced users would not know how to deal with. Of coarse if the user utilizes UAC, then HIPS would not be needed.

ZoneAlarm is more user friendly, uses Behavior protection instead of HIPS which will not flag as many false positives.
ZoneAlarm is more compatible with programs.

For myself Windows Firewall provides excellent protection along with UAC with no issues at all.

Just a note: Never trust review sites or testing sites, they will install a product use it for about an hour or less then write a review.
You need to test a product for at least 30 days in order to see how it works and if any potential problems occur.

I am having some trouble with my Comodo Firewall. I installed v2.4, and although my internet connection was slowed down a little bit, I kept it. But later, i found it really hard to browse the net with a wireless connection, and even with a LAN connection, the CPU usage and the PF usage was way too high. I usually play games online (eg: counter-strike), and when I am playing, the PF size is usually around 600 MB, but with this firewall running, its 850 MB (noticed the change as soon as i removed the firewall). Computer started lagging, games were laggy, had no choice but to remove it and start the windows firewall.

I've been using Comodo Personal Firewall and been very happy with it. However. I had some major system crashes a couple of weeks ago, and ended up having to take my laptop to an engineer - I've learned from experience that said engineer will blame *everything* on a software firewall if you've got one installed, so I uninstalled Comodo in Safe Mode via Add/Remove Programs (it was the only way I could get him to agree to fix it).

I've now got my laptop back and want to reinstall Comodo, but every time I try it tells me there's already a copy on the computer. It asks me if I want to uninstall it, and I click Yes, but nothing happens.

I've been Googling, and it seems like a lot of people have had this problem. There's a lot of discussion of editing the registry to get rid of it manually, and I know how to do this in theory - I've found a Comodo Personal Firewall folder under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > Software, but I've also read that it's not okay just to delete the whole thing because it references other programs on the system. I have no idea which registry keys to delete, and can't find a full guide anywhere.

Can anyone help?

I installed Comodo firewall since it was the only 3rd party firewall available when I first got my new PC. I got tired of it not remembering rules, and decided to uninstall it. Upon rebooting, my internet connection did not work. Vista said no connection was detected. I checked in the device manager for my network adapter. Comodo had created three entries in the network adapters section. I didn't tell it to.

NVIDIA nforce Networking Controller(default)
NVIDIA nforce Networking - Comodo Firewall Miniport
WAN Miniport (IP) - Comodo Firewall Miniport
WAN Miniport (IPV6) - Comodo Firewall Miniport

The default device says it is still working. The other three entries won't let me remove them. I deleted every file and registry entry that had to do with Comodo with no luck. I reinstalled the nforce drivers from Nvidia, and they didn't change. I reinstalled Comodo, and then uninstalled again with no luck. I tried to let Vista diagnose the problem, and it said that the drivers/hardware were having problems but offered no solution. My ethernet is integrated , and can't be removed. How do I get rid of this crap and get my connection back?

A:[SOLVED] Networking screwed after uninstalling Comodo firewall

Exactly the same thing has happened to me!!!!

I have Vista Business but never understodd where the problem was. I manually uninstalled it just like you (removed everything in the registry that had to do with the word "comodo") - since Comodo couldn't uninstall itself for some reason - and now none of my internet connections work; pcmcia-broadband modem, LAN/Ethernet or my WLAN!
This is very frustrating and I were contemplating reinstalling Vista before I read that I wasn't the only one who had experienced this.

Have you solved this? I am very anxious to get my internet working as I'll be moving soon and really need the internet to work for me.

I wasn`t sure where this should be posted, but since it involves an unknown network, I figured I would start out by posting it here. Yesterday my internet went out in the middle of doing my average daily surfing(all sites I know are in good standing) when my internet suddenly went out. Later on that day, I went through the process of trying to get back online(turned off/unpluged power to modem, reset modem). When I turned my computer back on to see if I could get online, Comodo Firewall threw up a window telling me that it had detected that my computer has joined a new network and needs to know how to treat the new network according to my location. The IP address Comodo gave for the new network joined was Neither the wife or I know anything about setting up, or joining a new network, so it wasn`t anything done by us, and we are the only ones accessing our computers. As a side note, I ended up having to call AT&T to get back online, evidently there was an error in my line. I have run all my antivirus/malware programs, and they all show up clean. I would appreciate any thoughts on why our computers would be according to Comodo Firewall have joined a new network without us knowing. Running Windows XP Thanks for taking time.

A:Solved: Comodo Firewall tells me it has detected a new network

A few months ago, my mother bought herself a new laptop and at first she used the free Norton trial for antivirus and firewall protection until it expired, then used the trial version of Kaspersky, which is about to expire. I was thinking about downloading Avast antivirus on to her laptop for her, but as far as I know, it doesn't have a firewall, so I was thinking of also downloading the Comodo firewall.

So my question is this: is Avast antivirus with Comodo firewall a good combination? are they compatible? And do they work well on a laptop? A friend that has read my previous drivel about Comodo noted to me that I never really discussed the settings of the Firewall itself. This was indeed a rather big failing on my part that I apologize for, so here is a quick Primer:

(Note that CIS and CF have differing default settings- but as I see no value in CIS the below refers to Comodo Firewall. I further assume that the Sandbox will be Enabled with the "Any" change active)

Although the Firewall module of CF lends itself to much tinkering with regards to Portsets, Network Zones, Traffic Filtering, etc. only the most Networkly adept people need to be concerned with this stuff, and quite frankly I question the real-world value of playing with these settings (it also gives me a headache). This being said, let's discuss the important things:

1). CF default settings- If you already have CF installed, all that I will discuss can be found on the main Firewall setting page (Tasks>Firewall Tasks>Open Advanced Settings).

CF is configured to start in Safe Mode- this basically allows all applications that are whitelisted by Comodo to connect to the Network without any specific rules being made. Note also on that main page there is an unchecked box to "Create Rules for Safe Applications"- if you check this box and run a safe application like an email app or web browser, CF will start to pay attention to have the specific application operates and will automatically make rules specific for it. A:Comodo Firewall

are you able to see your network with comodo installed but using the lowest setting of protection?
if you can then its a matter of creating a rule allowing access...
if its not then its comodo itself the problem (firewalls really sink in into the internals of windows so with things on the inside changing its no wonder why it wont crash...)
if its the latter then you might have to look for another firewall or stick to the regular windows firewall (which is pretty good with the added vista firewall control program)

Hi mrjay100,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

The general rule is that you do not want to have more than one antivirus or firewall program installed on your computer. One of each is fine. Anti spyware/adware programs like Windows Defender, SUPERAntiSpyware, Spybot Search & Destroy, etc. usually do not have a problem with more than one of them installed and running. In fact you should be using more than one since no one program can completely protect you from these malwares.

I use COMODO Firewall Pro, Avast antivirus, Windows Defender, and Spybot Search & Destoy. All running all the time in the background monitoring away with no problems between them.

Hope this helps,
