Online Videos and Games Freezing

Q: Online Videos and Games Freezing

Hello,

Occassionally, like once every three days, whenever I try to play an online video like from Youtube or essentially any video that is from the internet, it will freeze and stop playing after about 2-3 seconds of play. I've let the video load all the way through and still no luck. This also happens with online games sometimes. After about 5 seconds of loading up, on any browser, Mozilla or IE, it will freeze, just as the videos do. Strangely, though, after a reboot the videos and games work again. I wouldn't be complaining if this only happened once, maybe twice, but like I said, it happens occassionally. I'm pretty sure I have all the updated Shockwave and Flash player downloads, but maybe not. Any ideas on what might be the problem? Thanks very much.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When opening pages with internet videos, occasionally my entire screen will freeze with a couple of odd exceptions: the mouse still moves but doesn't highlight anything and the computer appears to behave as normal, i.e the movements and clicks of the mouse can manipulate the (now playing, sound only obviously) video (pausing, skipping etc.).

Every time this happens, forcing shutdown and rebooting causes the computer to then behave normally, but obviously this is not ideal. The freezing happens fairly infrequently, once every couple of days or so, sometimes more often, and i don't have to actually be viewing the page when it happens, for example youtube changing to the next video in a music playlist open in a background tab can trigger it. Anyone have any idea what might be going on?

Thanks in advance people

Need Help
My old laptop has been having a stuttering problem with games for a couple of years now. It?ll stutter for around five seconds, run smooth for around ten seconds, stutter again for five, run smooth for ten. It?ll keep doing that until I stop playing and close the game. It doesn?t start doing the stutter the second I start the game, it?ll start maybe around five minutes into the game and not quit its pattern. It doesn?t matter what game, how old it is, it does this to all.

It also does this while watching online videos. I can?t watch anything on, for example, Hulu, or Gametrailers, without it doing the same stutter pattern.

I didn?t always have this annoyance. It started little over a year after I bought my laptop. During all this time, while putting up with the problem, I?ve done several clean installs. I?ve tried to solve this myself, but never could find anyone with the same exact problem.

I?ve uploaded several videos that show the stutter problem:
MrTatakichi's Channel - YouTube

Also, here's my hardware & processes:

Any help will definitely be appreciated, thank you.

Well, 761 MHz processor speed is way too slow for any modern games. You can check go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. The command prompt box appears, press Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk Utility will check the integrity of the drive. You can also click on the PC Running Slow? link in my signature and try those things. Other then that, you need a faster computer.

Hello there.

Basically i've been troubled with BSODs since month, pretty much since i've got this PC i haven't experianced any problems, however, after month and a bit i've started getting bluescreens pretty much too offten.
Today i got it 3 times in a row when i tried to watch single episode of naruto :P - equals 3 BSOD in 20 mins, so there we go im posting here hoping for a bit of help.

I'm running
Win 7 ultimate x64, box version. Reinstalled it like 3 times by now on this machine, 1st installation was pretty much out of BSODs at all, however i got some problems after clearing the other pc off this one so i basically reinstalled it around month and a half ago, quite a bit after i've started getting BSODs so i just reinstalled it again, results are pretty much the same.

Over the time, i've been using tools like daemon tools for virtual drives, few antivirs, including Kaspersky trial one. Point is - i've been reading throught tons of forums so far and first thing i've started checking after i got those BSODs were drivers.

I've got rid of DT since windows driver compability verify counted this one as incompatibie.

I've also uninstalled kaspersky once to try out new ver [got like 2 BSODs of kaspersky itself aswell].

I've been running memtest for round 3 hours, got no memory errors,
occt test caused bluescreen error today after like 15 mins, however i've got no idea wth is log of this program, i've just run stress test for RAM/CPU up there.

PC is quite a new one so im ... Read more

A:BSOD playing online videos/games.

I've menaged to get attachement up here, posting it down.

One more thing - so far i've been running second OCCT test and it seems it also crashed around 15 minute of test, althought there was no bluescreen, just test error. Thing is most common BSOD is system_service_exception one, i could assume it's driver thing however win driv ver. seems to don't see any of this problems + im running verifier right now the built-in. Seems ok so far.

I have also mentioned that i've reinstalled win like 3rd time now since i got this pc so i can assume it's quite fresh install, however filled with MOBO drivers and Clone for alternative to DT.

I've been having this problem for months now and can not figure out what is causing it. Every couple of weeks my pc would bsod almost instantly every time I watch a video on YouTube and this can happen for days or weeks, then the problem will go away for a few weeks and suddenly come back again. I have tried so many different fixes but the problem always seems to come back. 2 weeks ago I did a complete wipe and reinstall of windows 7 and guess what, 2 days ago it started to bsod again just like it did before. Can someone please help me?

Edit: Okay, now it is crashing just from browsing Google :/

Also another thing that has been happening which is unrelated and not necessarily a problem is every now and then I will hear a buzzing/whining sound from inside of my computer and it will change pitch whenever I move the mouse or open new windows or do anything which changes what is on screen when in game menus (I noticed the pitch change most when going through the options menu in minecraft) its very strange are hard to explain but does anyone know what it is and if it is normal?

Every time i try and play a flash game or watch a video online it will play for 4 or 5 seconds then my computer will crash or freeze up, and there is this horrible electronic grating sound. The only way to stop it is to do a hard shutdown. I am running Windows 7 home premium 64bit if that helps.

Also it does not crash when playing games like Oblivion and A.V.A just games on websites.

Hey, I've got a pretty annoying problem where the computer will freeze and monitor will turn black and speakers will play sort of a cut off buzzing sound. The only way to actually do anything is to force shut down the computer again.

This happens mostly while watching videos online but basically whenever the browser is running from what I can recall. It doesn't always occur either so it's hard to track down but when it does occur, I usually have no problem reproducing the problem after a reboot.

I have no problem playing games or anything else that may task the computer more which leads me to believe it is a codec-related problem.

Somewhat related may be that I have a problem with Spotify where it doesn't automatically play new local music in the play queue unless I specifically queue up new things to play.

Restarting the computer when it occurs ocassionally complains about the CPU being overclocked and this is the reason for the crash but I doubt this is actually the problem seeing as I've tried running it without any overclocking and running it at around 3.8-4.0 GHz (Turbo setting since the default CPU ratio is locked) and passing Memtest and Prime95 tests for 10 hours without any problems.

Computer doesn't crash due to overheating from what I can tell, freezing even when idling due to browser running or during Power-saving mode and is at about 40-50 degrees C.

System is about 1 ? years old and this has been an ongoing problem ever since. At first I thoug... Read more

A:Computer freezing watching videos online, possibly CPU-related

Update:
I realized that I gave a poor first description, the monitors don't turn black, they display what was previously displayed when the freeze occurs.

And the sort of cut off buzzing sound is simply from power getting cut to all devices, including mouse and keyboard not getting any power.

I also forgot to mention that I've tried running chkdsk, found no issues.

I'm gonna try running Accessible Event Watcher from the Windows SDK in order to see if I can identify anything suspect occuring when the freeze occurs. I'll check the normal Event Viewer to see anything for reference when it occurs again.

Otherwise, maybe this belongs in the Motherboards, Bios & CPU-section? If I had to guess, this is starting to feel like it is related to the PSU or the motherboard acting up.

Not sure where I should put this post.
Whenever I try to watch a video online, i.e. a TV episode. The video will freeze every 10 minutes or so. I can hardly get through a whole video, and when I refresh the browser it will start at the beginning again, so I can not get through it.

I also host live video chats with IM. I use a Logitech USB cam. When a customer logs into video with me, the video will freeze almost every minute or so. The text chat will continue, but not the video. I have to keep refreshing the browser, sometimes refreshing will not bring back the video connection and I have to completely log out and in again. The site describes this livestream as "the only easy-to-use "download-free" webcam streaming format that requires no third-party applications to run on your PC. ("Download-Free" means that you don't have to download and install any special software ... it works from within your web browser!) I have been doing this for 4 years. This problem is not new, but in the last few months it is happening during every single session. Techsupport has never been much help. In the past they have said possible it's the firewall, but I have never had this problem as bad as I have lately.

It seems to me that these problems might be related, since both involve sending video over the internet. I don't know all the technical details, what is involved with watching videos on the net, or with sending live video feed. I have done free I... Read more

Hey all,

First, this is my first post on this forum, I found this forum when looking for a solution on my problems with the laptop.

The laptop is a Dell xps L10701X (nearly one year old)
The specs are:

CPU = i7
GPU= nvidea 445M (3gb, non shared ram)
HDD = 2x 500gb
Ram = 12 gb DDR3 1333
OS = windows 7 64 bit ultimate (clean install just 2 hours ago)

2 out of 3 times i boot, the computer just freezes on booting, always happens during the windows logo.
When it boots it just takes a game or a video to totally freeze the notebook, the screen turns black when that happens.

Yesterday I have someone from Dell to replace my mainboard, but that didn't fix the problem.

Any help would be greatly apriciated.

Jory

Hi, so for the last few months Ive gotten a worse and worse BSOD. I noticed it first in the flight simulator when I would zoom when looking out the canopy and I would see distant enemy fighters and then I would get BSOD just as i saw them. Then Flying my RC simulator I get BCOD very quick. Now it seems when watching a TV show online and clicking on a video of something funny or interesting it will get BSOD. These bugchecks indicate a Machine Check Exception has occurred which means the hardware has signified (via a standard messaging interface) through the processor driver that an correctable hardware error has occurred ,the system then bugchecks on purpose, the result is a 0x124 error.

It looks like a very strong indication of a bad CPU, given that all your dump files show this:

Code:
Error : DCACHEL1_DRD_ERR (Proc 0 Bank 0)
Status : 0xb400200069000135
Address : 0x0000000032c10c00
Misc. : 0x0000000000000000
A level 1 cache data read error on the primary processor of the first memory bank, this is a consistent error within your bugchecks, this is bad, especially on the first processor.

I recommend running Prime95 to find out.

Stress test your CPU with Prime95

I recommend running Prime95 for around 2 hours

   Warning

As with most stress tests your component's temperature will rapidly increase.
It is advised that you download a temperature monitoring program like HWmonitor
Keep an eye on your temperatures and stop the tests if it starts to overheat

Try taking out the CMOS battery on the motherboard then placing it back in to ensure no improper settings have been made.

Post back the results.

Hello guys!

I'm having some major problems with my computer. I was playing a game (stronghold kingdoms), opened a battle report to see the battle, and my computer froze.Mouse wouldn't move, ctrl+alt+delete wouldn't work.
Only solution was the reset button. When i reset the computer same thing happened when i tried opening the game. I tried it many times, always the same thing. Computer froze. First thing i thought that it had overheated (was running for about 14 hours straight, and it is an old pc) , so i left it for a few hours to cool down. After i came back, i opened a movie, and the computer froze. Not right away, after a few seconds. I tried again, the computer would always freeze, some times not at the same point, but it would freeze at some point. (most of the times when a scene changed or i forwarded the movie.)
At some point, computer would freeze most of the times at the windows loading screen.
Tried restroring the computer a few days back, nothing changed.
Installed an anti-crash program, still nothing, scanned disk for errors, nothing.
Opened the computer in safe mode, still froze at some point.
I tried restoring the computer 2 months back, but the computer froze when 1/5 of the process was left. When i rebooted the computer, it would not go past the Ai Series screen where it froze (the screen before the windows loading screen).

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Okay, been having issues with my machine. They seem to be video related. I'm getting crashes, freezes, reboots etc from using different programs.

I have a dual monitor set up, and often have a video (Netflix, YouTube, Twitch etc) playing on one screen while doing things on the other screen (games, video editing). When doing so, I keep getting freezes, crashes and straight reboots, no messages, just suddenly black screen computer powering down.

I've scanned my computer with windows defender and Malwarebyte Anti-Malware and nothing was found.

Did clean uninstall of my video drivers and reinstalled them.

Checked my RAM for errors and found nothing.

It's hard for me to describe, but here are a few things I can give you as symptoms.

1. It does not like me doing more than one thing at a time with regards to video. I can't edit and watch Youtube for instance.
2. Sometimes it will just freeze and I have to hard reboot with the power button to get it going again.
3. Sometimes it will just kill the window in Chrome that has the video on it and say "Aw, snap something went wrong while displaying this webpage."
4. Sometimes it just straight crashes, I have seen a couple of blue screens but more often the screen just turns black and it shuts down.
5. The blue screens sometimes do not point at a specific file when crashing, but when they do it says win32kfull.sys as the program that has errored.
6. If I'm only doing one video related thing it oft... Read more

Can you see the POST screen / BIOS prior to loading Windows? Or is there no signal at all?

If you can see POST / BIOS but lose signal as Windows loads - then that's interesting, as the recovery/safe mode uses the generic VGA driver.

The fact that the PC kept freezing coupled with the loss of signal suggests that either the card, or power supply may be faulty.

hi, i sometimes experience crashes when i watch Youtube videos. the screen turns black for awhile, then a message pops up (shown below).

that is one of the two problems i have. the second problem is when i'm playing a game (Heroes of Newerth) and my computer just freezes.

this all started after i used the program Driver Genius Professional to update my drivers. me being the dumbass that i am, did not create a backup before updating. after the update it fixed some of the sound issues i had with games, but also started causing crashes when i watched Youtube videos. this was about a month ago and as time passed it got worse and worse. it started causing my computer to freeze whenever i played games. after i restart my computer from a crash sometimes it starts up to a black screen and just sits there until i restart agan.

i've attached a .txt file with the information from dxdiag. i'm quite a "noob" when it comes to computers so if i have missed anything please let me know.

Komputerbay 1333Mhz PC3 10600 / PC3 10666 8-8-8-24 1.5v 8 GB KIT

Ever since I delivered it to him, it's been either freezing (often with popping from his headphones) indefinitely or producing BSODs. These can be as often as a couple of times a day.

Generally the crashes occur when he is gaming or watching Youtube videos, but sometimes they also occur upon restarting the computer immediately after a crash.

Since we both have little time on our hands, it's become a game of trying to troubleshoot the computer remotely, thus far with limited success. I've tried replacing the memory as I thought this might have been the issue, but that didn't help.

I would be immensely grateful if somebody could have a look at the contents of his MiniDump folder, as having tried to interpret them myself I haven't got very far.

A couple of days ago my pc started to behave weird. It would turn off when I'm playing games. But the weird thing is that the blue light on my pc would not go off, only my monitor would. But I could hear that the tower was making no noise at all. I thought it would be overheating so I oponed my case and cleaned it (it was really dusty). After I cleaned it it worked fine again but the next day I got a weird buzz and at the same time my game stutters/freezes. This happens every few seconds and then stops for maybe 10 minutes and then repeats it self by stuttering/freezing for like 10 minutes again. It's really annoying but I can't rule out overheating because I downloaded HwMonitor and it said that my Geforce GT 320 gets to like 104 degrees while playing games. I cleaned it but I just can't get it to lower. I know the graphics card isn't good but I can't upgrade due to the size of my case.

If anybody knows how I can fix my problem please comment.

A:Buzz sound and freezing when playing games or watching videos

Hi, Welcome to Seven forums.

If it's a constant buzzing sound or a ticking sound I would go with something like a wire brushing against a fan, or possibly a dead hard drive which makes like a grinding squealing noise. It could also be the CPU fan, if it's a really cheap fan and the blade is spun while the fan is not on the motor can burn out. This will usually either stop the fan from moving at all or it will still spin a little and make a grinding hum.

All of these aren't good, like if you were to keep watching YouTube, freeze, reboot, YouTube, freeze, whatever part that isn't liking this WILL die completely eventually. If it's the hard drive, your files may be at stake, or if it's the CPU fan you may need a whole new computer, so this is why I'm letting you know. So I would stop watching videos if you don't have to.

First, update the drivers for your graphic card. Download the latest drivers for the card and Driver sweeper. Uninstall the old drivers, run driver sweeper. It will clean the leftovers of the old driver. Install the latest driver.

Keep the case open and see if the temps goes down. Are you saying 104 C? if yes, you might fry the card.

Hi. Thank you for your time and expertise
For a while now I've had mostly BSOD 0x00000124 appearing on my screen when watching online videos(except YouTube) or whenever I played PC games on maximum video settings.
I decided to re-install Windows, assuming that software is the problem. Though after that not only did the BSOD stay, but also my computer started freezing randomly(on start-up, while installing updates, browsing the internet).
Also I installed Zorin OS 6. After a few minutes of browsing the internet(using Chrome) it also froze.
I tried running MemTest86+(using a CD) but after about 10 min. the computer screen shuts down on its own.
What should I do?

My ideapad Y700-15ISK has been freezing while playing games for about 3 months now. It will be completely fine with no stuttering or lag during game play but seemingly at random it the keyboard will start not recognizing inputs and I will be forced to shut it off using the power button as during full screen games you can only exit them with the keyboard. The strange thing is that the game will still recognize mouse input as I can move it to make my character look around and the game runs fine as normal. This has happened with 3 games so far with varying degrees of severity and just recently my PC crashed while watching a video and wasn't able to reboot until I turned it off and on again. I am not to experienced with laptops but I suspect there could be a problem with the graphics card as I have noticed minor graphical blips during videos. I have contacted Lenovo support on mobile but they have come back with the solution of doing a factory reset 2 times so far. Its always nice to get a second opinion especially now with the crash that recently happend. Thank you for reading.

Hi guys,

I'm a new member here and require help. I've put my specs up in profile so hopefully you should be able to see that.

I'll explain the sort of problems I've been getting recently. I used to get BSOD randomly about a month or so ago. Someone told me to do memory test and hard drive check, which I did. My pc was working fine for sometime after that, not sure if it was because of those tests. Anyway, so recently now when I watch video online within about 10-15 minutes computer freezes, screen freezes and I get weird noise from speakers. I suppose the noise might just be because everything froze. Funny thing is computer only crashes when I watch videos from one website. If I watch from youtube or somewhere else it doesn't, neither from any media player, vlc or other. That's one issue.

Second similar issue when I play online game (Cross fire), same thing happens. Within about 10-15 minutes it freezes, the weird noises don't come all the time though after it freezes.

Third problem, once the pc crashes and I shut it down directly, then I turn it back on, it turns on but doesn't respond, doesnt start windows or the screens that come before, monitor also doesn't turn on so just doesnt boot up the system. Sometimes it makes some kind of noise (not all the time), can't describe it really. After some time though when I turn it on it starts up normally.

I've tried to search and try to solve the problem but couldn't really understand what is causing the crashes. I looked int... Read more

Hello.

when i play videos online the higher quality they are the more they stutter and lag (and slow down)
This just happened all of a sudden, i could play videos fine before.
it happens to videos played using vlc too, but to a lower extent.

i recently changed to 64bit, then updated my gpu driver to 64, which didn't do anything.
i installed macromedia flash 8 not too long ago (bout the same time the problem arose), thought that might have something to do with it, seeing as it's so old, maybe it down graded my flash player or whatever (i don't even know if you use flash players offline....)

P.S I Also tried a reformatt a few weeks ago, and it didnt solve the problem :/

A:Urgent : System uses 50% or more when playing Videos, Flash Videos, Flash Games etc

Firstly, I would think it is fine that your CPU usage goes to 50% when playing videos... it has to use some CPU power to do this. Now the lagging is another story. First off I would make sure that everything is being properly cooled. If you have not done so in a while, clean out the inside of the PC, blowing off any dust from the heatsink, graphics card, power supply etc. Also what sort of power supply do you have? I want to confirm it's adequate for the system. That brings up the question, when did this start happening and was anything hardware changed around that time?

Other than that, I don't have a ton of programs on here. No matter what site I go to, the videos will not stream. I've tried to move right next to my router and/or internet connection but it does no good. I'm not having trouble with one specific site, it's really anything. Pleasse advise?

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to one of the video files you want to open.

Right click on it and select "Open With"

Select the application you want to open this type of file, and tick the box "Always use this application..."

Repeat for each file type.

If you don't get an "Open with" option, try right clicking the file while holding down the Shift key.

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with certain web players when watching videos online.
This is only a problem on my Toshiba sattelite C655.
When I watch videos that use certain web players, the video is choppy, as in it constantly backs the video up for a split second over, and over again, it's like certain special effects people put in their videos where they repeat an action over, and over again, like the moment that things went bad that is backed up, and repeated several times, but with me this happens throughout the whole video.
Here is a link to a video that uses the player, or at least one of the players that I am having problems with.
This is surenews.com, it is a safe site that just puts a few news stories up every day.

This seems to have started with the latest update of that player, but I can't be positive on that.
There are several sites I visit that use this player, and they are all the same. I can watch youtube just fine, and videos on other sites that use other web players.
Like I said this is a problem with only my laptop. Other computers in the house are just fine.
It is windows 7, and I use firefox with adblock plus, ghostery, https everywhere, and no script, which I only use on certain sites.
I just reset the computer to the out of the box state to see if maybe I had a software issue, but the ... Read more

Almost all video playback sites are online only & it is against their T&C to attempt to downlaod videos for offline use
Yes I know there are numerous alleged downloaders out there but the sites regularly update themselves to block the methods these dowmnloading programs use to preserve THEIR copyright
This is now closed as it breaches forum rules to discuss any further

Hey guys,

not sure if this is in the right place, but I failed to see a better place. My issue is that with sites such as DailyMotion.com and others, as I watch a streaming video the sound will gradually de-synch from the actual video. For example, you will hear a character speaking or a door close, and about a second or two later the character's mouth will actually move or the door will actually close. Although not a huge deal, this is extremely annoying. I tried going to the site where the video is being hosted, but it didnt help. Any advice is appreciated

A:Online Videos de-synching

This can be because of several different issues. Fix-wise, there are a few things you can try. First of all, cut down on any unnecessary usage of your Internet connection (active downloads, P2P, etc) and system resources (unnecessary applications running). Second, you should update your media player (Windows Media Player, DivX Player, VLC media player, etc) as well as your codecs (eg: K-Lite Codec Pack) to fix any bugs/glitches/hubabaloo that may be creeping about.

My daughter sends me emails to let me know she has sent me photos or videos of my grandkids. These are sent by her cell phone, through Sprint. When I click on the link in the email, it opens a webpage, with the photos or videos. I have no problem at all saving the photos, of course, but I need to know.....is it possible to save the videos she sends this way? Right clicking doesn't work, obviously.

I've tried everything I can think of and haven't been able to figure it out. Is it possible to do this??

A:Online videos of grandchildren

It depends on what the link leads you to. Ideally you would have a link to the file itself so you could right click and choose download or save target as...and get it, but some sites may only offer streaming the file. If that's the case, often it is downloaded as it plays and you could find the full video in the Temporary Internet Files (using IE) and searchable by size (should be one of the largest files). Or a software product like Applian stream capture can record the video as its played.

Alternately if you can get the person sending the links to upload the videos to a file transfer/sharing site like www.dropsend.com, then the video file can be downloaded easily since that's what its designed for.
