Getting back lost emails

Q: Getting back lost emails

Hi guys,

Sorry not sure if this is the right forum to post this. Got a computer with Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600).

The comp was given to some tech guys to clean and they took out all the mails from 2009. All i got are 2008 mails. I have a VERY IMPORTANT mail that has travel itinerary for a business trip next week. Those idiots probably deleted it cause i cant find it anywhere now.

Im using Microsoft Outlook Express 6. Is there anyway i can get those messages back?? They didnt format the comp so i think it should still be in here somewhere.

Help please

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is this possible?

Because often I'll send messages that I regret later, and this would be really, really convenient.

A:Getting back sent emails

No.

Once you send them, they are on your ISP's system and delivered to the recipients email inbox a few milliseconds later, where it would take a police order to have them retrieved.

The only exception is where they are in a company LAN system, where they do not travel outside the company system (never out to the "internet" email system). Then, if the recipient has not collected them from the company email server they can (if its a permitted activity) be recalled. That is because they never "left the building".

Outlook express downloaded 7 emails (it comes up with a bar saying recieving mails 1/7 2/7 etc). I was reading one in the preview box, when my computer crashed. I restarted and the emails have gone. They're not anywhere in outlook express (not deleted files or anything) and they aren't there when I log into the tiscali website.

How on earth do I retrieve them?!

You will need to contact your email provider to see if have backups of your email. Some do (I use Fastmail), some don't.

Hello
I hope someone can help me. Our "sent" emails between 10/02/09 and today have disappeared! All the others from the previous 5 years are still there. Does any one know where they could have gone and how I retrieve them? I did click to "Compact Messages" this morning, so that might have been when it happened. We use OE 6 Windows XP.
I do back up my mail using Synctoy to an external hard drive, so have the messages to 5/12/09 on there - but, (if i can't retrieve the originals), how do I transfer them across? They are DBX files. When I try and open the folder it just opens my regular OE - with the missing messages.
I would be very grateful for any advice anyone can give.
Thank you

You have to call the e-mail hosting company. No one here can retrieve messages that were stored on someone else's server. My guess is that the company probably has a policy that messages are deleted after a certain period of time of inactivity. You're likely out of luck. Next time, make back ups of important information.

And unless you want your account full of spam, remove your e-mail address from your post.

Hi,

I am currently sending out loads of emails to the NHS in the UK. I have been doing this for the past 4 weeks with no problem, but in the last week, I call the recipents directly after sending and they haven't received them.

The email addresses all end in [email protected] Each mail has a pdf attached.

I'm also sending emails to other places, no problems, just the NHS ones. The mails are sent to many locations in the UK , but they don't arrive. I sent one last week and there was an error in the name, which I realised afterwards. This didn't come back as undeliverable. It's like they're all stuck in some buffer somewhere.

Have tried sending from another PC, same result. I knew that was going to happen, because other emails were getting out, but just had to eliminate my PC.

Perplexing! Frustrating! Need to continue work next week!

Any ideas what's happening?

Using Hotmail/Windows Live by the way.

Hope you can shed some light on this. Here's hoping.

Every now & then I keep wondering if I am not receiving all my mail. I use hotmail & there is this daily email that I get (it is sequentially numbered) and some times it doesn't arrive. The next day I'll get it and it will be the correct one for that day, but the numbers skip (3-5) #4 being the day lost. This is the only one I have been able to prove that I don't have because it is numbered. But like I said, I seem to miss other random emails that I was supposed to get.
Is there any thing I can do about it? Has anyone else ever had a similar problem?

Are you sure you looked in the right spot for them? They probably won't be in your Inbox, but below it under a "Storage Folders" or something like that, expand that and drill down til you see them.

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I lost all emails from my inbox that were dated after March 31, 2010. It appears that other folders were not affected. I think the problem occurred when the Outlook Express folders were being compacted. Are these emails lost forever, or are they somewhere on my computer? I have done a search for them but to no avail.

On July 1st. I downloaded live one care and it appeared to be ok.

Checked for emails around the 8th and found I was being timed out.

Checked the log and - it said something about the server being lost so I left it for a day or so, but then wondered that as I was now on broadband the 'timed out' bit should not apply?

I don't understand how I could lose the server/emails but still get websites.

I am still unable to receive any emails and have no idea for the next step.

Please keep any answers really simple. Thanks

Hello!

My friend has "lost" all his emails from within Outlook Express. There is absolutely no sign of them.

All was well until he copied text from a web page & then pasted it into an email. After sending the email, he closed his computer down. When he restarted his computer he wanted to refer to a previous email only to find that all were gone.

He seems to think that there was a virus, possibly a Visual Basic related one, in the text that he cut from the web page & then copied into the email.

Is this possible & is there any way to retrieve the emails?

If it is possible to pick up a virus this way, are there any precautions than he & others can take to prevent this from happening in the future?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me with this matter.

I don't know where this question belongs but...

I have seamonkey on an xp computer that connects to the Internet via a hardwired dsl modem. I use the mail component of seamonkey as my default email client. It is an earlier version of Thunderbird.

I have Thunderbird 3 on my Windows 7 computer which connects to the Internet via a wireless connection to the hardwired dsl modem.

I can send and get email from both stations. But when I send myself a message from the XP computer to the Win7 computer, it gets lost.

I can send myself a message from the XP computer to the same XP computer simply by sending it and then closing the email client. Later it gets downloaded from the pop server. Or I can send it to another email address that is aliased to my personal email address.

But either way when I send a message to the Win 7 computer, it seems to send correctly but even if I never open the email client on the XP computer again but go straight to the Win 7 computer, the mail never arrives.

Any ideas what is going wrong here? Anyone? What am I missing?

Hello Chaps,

I’ve come here out of desperation!

Rather foolishly on the advice of the ‘Expert’ in the PC World Shop – isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing! - I installed XP upgrade with SP2 over the top of Win 2000 Pro running Office 2000 without first backing up OE6

– I did move my photos and word docs to my iPod first, and thought I had made a backup of everything else – turns out the iPod didn’t get the entire ‘Backup’ file

I’ve now spent 2 days looking over every site I can find, for help to recover the missing emails and addresses – More irritating is I can’t believe in this day and age the Microsoft can not seamlessly integrate these things together that we all depend on from one system to another, or even include a “Use this button to back up all your OE 6 Files before upgrading” program.

I shouldn’t have to spend all this time fretting about my Ebay emails and address stuff, when I paid good money for the genuine XP program, it should carry a health warning on the box like cigarettes – “WARNING – Upgrading to this new system will seriously damage anything you rely on for your business.” etc

I’ve tried looking for wab files as described in 'Help' etc, but all it sees is the new address book.

This XP version also seems to take forever to start – usually 10 to 15 mins to load, and as of last night, its now deciding to restart every time I try to switch off – help…

I’ve tried doing a search here first, but to no avail.

A:Lost Emails within XP SP2?

Try doing a search for *.dbx that should lead you to the folder your emails are in. Then search for " * .wab " . . that should lead you to your address book. Once you know the locations of these folders, you can import mail and addresses to the new OE.

To search for the files . . Click Start . . Search . . For Files and Folders enter the text above ( without the "'s ) and click on More Advanced Options. Then tick Look in Hidden Folders . . Look in System Folders and Look in SubFolders

Having said all this . . installing XP over the top of any existing operating system seldom produces a stable and viable result. You will have a much more stable system if you perform a clean install, which you can do with a upgrade XP version. See this site . . you might want to print for reference during the installation.

It sounds like you already have your files backed up and once you find your mail and address files, you can copy those to a cd also. Be sure and copy the folder that the dbx files are in.

Good luck . . wrs

I use Windows Live Mail, recently I moved house into an area where my old ISP was not available to me, so I have moved all of my contacts to an @outlook.com address.
When I open WLM my old email account tries to download emails through my previous ISP, this was getting annoying so I tried to delete my old email account, doing so meant I have lost all of my emails and folders containing things I need to access.
Where did those emails go and can I somehow recover them?

Hi... I'm in help desk in my company. We're having an issue with emails sent to Hotmail, they're being rejected. Microsoft answered, via website:

"Welcome to Microsoft Community. We understand how important for you to be able to send an email to Microsoft accounts from your domain account.

You need to get in touch with the Microsoft Sender Support Team. They have to fill out the e-form that can be found on the following link to solve your issue with the error code 550 SC-002 where your emails sent from your domain to Microsoft Account rejected for policy reasons.

If you are the 3rd party Domain Administrator:

Please review our policies and guidelines at http://postmaster.live.com.
If you are in compliance, submit a support request to our Email and Delivery Filtering Services team by clicking on the link to the e-form under the troubleshooting section in the postmaster site mentioned above.

Let us know if you have further questions.

Thank you. "

... but the problem is that mails sent to Gmail are being rejected too... So I suppose that our servers are being considered as spammers, for the time being, for some reason. Is there a workaround to this without having to contact either Hotmail or Gmail? That's dealing with obnoxious bureaucrats... if you ever can get a hold of them...

Hello everyone,

I am not sure if this is a virus or something of the type or what it is. I have been getting random emails with a bunch of gibberish and it looks like they are from me? or trying to send to somewhere but then getting returned? I am not too sure. I couldn't follow the route. I will be replacing my email address in the posting with MY EMAIL. Also will be blocking out IP addresses. I am not sure which ones are part of my company and not. Let me know if the IP addresses are needed. I don't recall ever dealing with or sending anything to Macy's. These also come with 2 attachments I believe usually. I should say I am using "me" as in I am doing work for this employee at my work where I am doing some IT support and whatever else they need. This issue is something new though. Hi guys,
I checked the forums like many should do before asking, but most say oe or other names I have no idea of. My email is a sbcglobal.net address through yahoo, with internet through ATT. I'm not computer techy, so all those other email programs went over my head,

I had an email that I thought was safe that I "thought" I saved, but it got deleted. Over time the deleted emails were cleared too. (OOOPPPSSSS) I see there are certain programs to run to see if they are on the hard drive somewhere, but like I said I have no idea what email program I fall under. RIght now I have a windows 8 but it could also be on my older computer, which is a vista.

Any way to possibly get it back? Thought if anybody knew it would be you guys, or gals.

Thanks, and have a great day

A:Getting back deleted emails

Are you using web mail access? That is, when in your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) you go to some Yahoo! or att or sbc address to access your mail? If so, the deleted message will not be on either of your computers.

If, however, you are using an email client (Vista's Windows Mail, Thunderbird, etc.) which one(s)?

The domain is wintronelectronics.com and the mail server is located at mail.wintronelectronics.com. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Emails lost in space

Have you checked to make sure that the destination address in your new mail is the same as in the replies?

Have you had the intended recipients check to see if they are filtering or blocking your mail?

Does the same thing happen with mail sent and replied to yourself?

I have XP home edition. My email was retreived from Bell South DSL through Outlook. When the Road Runner tech switched me to RR, the emails that were in outlook from bell south (but not read) went away. My log in screen tells me there are 9 email unread, but I do not know where they are or how to find them. Please advise.
Thank You!

See if they are in a sub-folder under your Inbox. He may have also created a new PST file for your new email account. DO a search on your hard drive for files & folders named *.pst

The system is Windows 98, using Outlook Express 6, when receiving an email the system froze. After re-booting I found that the entire month of February was missing from my inbox. These emails are not in the deleted folder and search brings up nothing.

Do you have any idea what happened, how to stop it from happening again and if I can recover those lost emails?

Thanks

I'm using a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for our Mail server.

I recently had to delete and recreate an account. When I deleted his account I failed to properly backup his emails, so when I recreated his account, and tried to import the .pst that I thought I had created it did nothing. So now I need to find his old emails.

Is there a way for me to retrieve those emails? And possibly the original email account that he was using?

I was upgrading my motherboard, and foolishly, I forgot to backup my emails (just in case something went wrong, which it did). There was an error on the hard drive and it became unbootable on the new mobo. I was still able to access it, however, after I installed an OS on a new HD (and making the old HD a secondary master). I transferred all the contents from the old to the new, but am unable to locate any .dbx or .lbx files on either the old HD, or the new one for that matter (though emailing works fine on the new HD). Is there someplace else that they may be hiding, or have taken on some other form (file extension, I mean)?
The old HD was Win2kPro SP3 Outlook Express 5.5 and the new HD is Win2KPro SP4 Outlook Express 6.
Any help on this would be hugely appreciated!

A:Lost emails, need help with recovery

Mark, if you are using OE and it is working you do have .dbx files. Be sure you have VIEW HIDDEN FILES checked before you do your search or you won't see them.

If you want to know where they are in your new installation just go to the folder panel in OE and right click the INBOX or something and hit properties. It will show you the location.

You don't seem to indicate something that would have destroyed them on your old HD so I would assume (hope) that view hidden files will help you locate them.

Hi.I cannot believe it happened to me, but it did. Last week when I had to reference an old email and found out 3 of my email subfolders' email has been deleted! I could not believe it! I don't know how it happened. Absolutely no clue. Anyways, I did try "How to repair Internet Explorer 6 & Outlook Express" and that did not work.Went to http://ask-leo.com/the_contents_of_my_inbo..._i_recover.html. That did not either, but it did get me a clue in regards to the registery. I had a lot that I need to fix, but I do not know if I can trust it because one of my collegues did and lost her emails too. Any suggestions will be appreciated.Regards, eveilyn

A:Emails Lost In Its Own Folder

Hi eveilyn,Can you confirm that you are having this problem with Outlook Express and not some other program?Also:1. Did you find your mail store and/or locate the .dbx file(s) that correspond to the name of the missing folders?2. I just glanced at the Ask Leo article, but didn't see any reg mods suggested. Can you tell me specifically what you are looking at there and if you did do anything in the registry?3. What operating system (XP?) and which antivirus are you using?4. Did you try the instructions in this article as well? http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=295965

An error occurred while attempting to open the windows address book. Unable to find the WAB DLL. All of my messages from yahoo however are now gone and there are no messages in my outlook. I am freaking out because I had emails in my yahoo from 2003. Please help!!!
