My keyboard backlight doesn't go on and off automatically anymore depending on how light or how dark it is.  I have discovered this happens since i "upgraded" Lenove Settings to Lenove Vantage. I never gave it much thought because it worked always. Now that it is somehow gone i am experiencing how highly inconvenient this is in my work flow.  There isn't even an option anymore in Lenovo Vantage to enable automatic backlight... Why? I have never heard of 'upgrades' that actually demote an important every day function, and add an inconvenient annoyance.   Please tell me i am missing something, otherwise there is no excuse for this horrible 'upgrade'. Hey there, I found a similar topic but unfortunately, there was not a final response that solved my problem. I own a Yoga 13 Ideapad without the backlight function, unfortunately. Recently I watched a video of a keyboard replacement and I would like to do that with mine in order to replace it with a backlight keyboard. The problem is that I am not sure if my model features the needed connections. The model number is: 219159342273 if that helps.  I found backlight keyboards described as "original" Lenovo parts for about 30?. Is that realistic or fake?Thank you for your help!!!

Just got my X1 Yoga 3rd generation.  Ran all Vantage updates and ran windows update.  Glitch occured when new and after installing all updates.
 
This is what i have observed.  IF i use the keyboard to rotate through the backlight options such as low, high, off and auto.  Low, off, and high work.  When put to "auto" light will not turn on.  IF I choose Auto in Vantage backlight will work.  BUT if I choose auto through cycling though the options (low, high, off, auto) keyboard backlight will not work.  If in auto from keyboard it will work after a reboot though.

Hey, i have a Lenovo Thinkpad X260, and my keyboard lighting works great, but i open and close my laptop alot at work, and i like to have the lighting on always. It seems to me, that i have to turn it on (Fn+space) every single time i open it, because it apparently shuts the lights of when closed (not "closed" but in slumber mode. any solutions to solving my problem? thx

Hey everyone, Recently bought this laptop. Loving everything about it. However, I did a fresh install of Windows 10 (it wasn't an upgrade from Win8.1, but rather a new install of Win10 after I replaced the harddrive to a 1TB SSD). Since then I've reinstalled everything I could get from the site. Every Lenovo driver set and utility. Updated the BIOS. Consulted the Solution Center. Ran scans from the utilities and the site. I've literally tried EVERYTHING that's obvious, and I can't get the backlight to come on at all. When I first received the laptop with the old harddrive, the backlight worked just fine. Since I put in the new SSD with a fresh install, I cannot for the life of me get it to turn on. Pressing Fn+SPACE gets it to show the little icon on screen that it's SUPPOSED to be turned on, but it isn't on. So I'm at a loss here. I sincerely doubt it's a hardware issue, because literally the only thing that's changed is the harddrive. If there's a specific driver for the keyboard backlight, I'd love to know about it. Thanks in advance!

Do you want to try out something just to check that the keyboard light is working?
I have a TP Yoga 14 here and when I access the BIOS the keyboard lights up when I press "FN+Space", give it a try if it works for you.
 
I do not know if it requires an special driver, but I'm using the Windows 10 that was updated over the Win8.1 that came included.
 
The other things that cames to my mind is trying to boot other OS from the USB and see if the keyboard lights up.

Hello, I just got a new Yoga 260.   I immediately upgraded to a Samsung SSD and have reinstalled my own Win10.  I've installed all of the official Lenovo drivers, including for Hotkey.  One thing I have noticed though is that the factory-installed OS, when using Fn-Spacebar to turn on the keyboard backlight, had 4 stops:Off, On Low, On High, and Auto This was new - I hadn't seen an auto keyboard backlight option on any ThinkPad before.  However, now that I have reinstalled my own OS and am using the downloaded version of the Hotkey driver, I only have the traditional 3 options to cycle through:Off, On Low, On High   -    Auto is missing. Does anyone know a version of the Hotkey driver, or maybe a regedit, that will restore the 4th "auto" keyboard backlight option?

On my Yoga 260 with factory-installed OS, I have the 4 stops when "Auto Keyboard Backlight" is enabled in the Lenovo Settings app, but I have only 3 stops when "Auto Keyboard Backlight" is disabled in that app.  If you didn't install the Lenovo Settings app after reinstalling your own OS (assuming it's still Windows?), then that's probably the answer - but I'm not sure about whether the auto stop can be enabled without installing that app, which many people would understandably want to avoid.

Hello, just yesterday I received my brand new Yoga 900-13ISK however after turning the keyboard backlight on I've noticed that there is some backlight coming through just 1 of the air vents where the hinge is, as per the picture attached. Is this normal for anyone else? I'm unsure if there's actually something broken/faulty within that specific air vent area or not...Appreciate any help or advice

Picked up a 920 today from Best Buy. Overall it is a nice upgrade from my MS Surface Pro 3 with TK4. I have one area I would like to find a solution.  On my Surface, our Macbook and my work Dell, the keyboard backlight, when turned one, will turn off after 5-10 seconds of inactivity. When activity resumes, the light turns back on. Of course you can manually turn the light on and off.  With the Yoga 920, I can only get to either be on / off. What am I overlooking? Jeff

Hi, I want the keyboard backlight on my Yoga 900 to default to "on".  Currently, the default is off. Every time the computer sleeps, hibernates, restarts, I have to manually turn the keyboard backlight on. It's annoying to have to manually turn it on over and over, particularly when the room is dark. I want it to always come on by itself and only turn off when I manually turn it off.  I looked but could find no suitable setting.  Any suggestions.?  Any registry edits that can take care of this.?  Thanks much.!

Hi, I have a XPS 13 9350 and would like to know if it's possible to limit the charging or stop battery charging? I saw that this is possible with Dell Battery Meter but I can't find the right version for my laptop.
Also, I would like to know if it's possible to make the keyboard backlighting turn off after a longer period of time? Right now, it turns off far too soon after interaction. I saw that this is possible with Dell Quickset but once again, I don't know which is the right version for my system. Thank you!

Hi, I have just Recived a YOGA 710. From first time Keyboard backlight does not work. I have try to reinstall power mangement interface from Lenovo.com, energy setting, and energy saving, reinstall mouse and keyboard drivers...Factory reset, and enable/disable Hot keys neither works.Bur cap lock key has backlight, space bar  and Fn Keys work fine.And of course space bar has backlight symbol. Any idea?

As the title says, my trackpoint, keyboard backlight and touchpad have stopped working. The problem happened a few weeks after I updated from windows 8.1 to windows 10. I have tried updating ultranav drivers, resetting windows 10 (which was a bit of a pain given that I will now have to reinstall all my software) and then reverting to windows 8.1 after none of the above worked. Fortunately my touchscreen and mouse support is still ok, but I can't work in low light conditions without my keyboard light. Can anyone help? I see that some Yoga 12 users report similar problems after a fuse fails. Does anyone know if this occurs on the S1 Yoga?

After latest update, my Thinkpad Yoga 12 keyboard won´t light up on Fn + space. It does light up on startup. I have installed the latest Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration drivers. Is this reason for me to revert to win 8.1, or is there a solution? I cannot find the older 8.78.00 Hotkey driver anywhere. Would that work better?

I'm not sure what can be the issue, but can you try checking the "Lenovo Settings" application to check if your keyboard backlight turns on?
?
The Lenovo Settings is on the Windows Store , but you also need to install the Dependecy Package.
 
But just checking the support site I found there is a BIOS update that says:
(1.08)
- (Fix) Fixed an issue that "Fn + Space" cannot control KB backlight after exit shipping mode.
 
Please double check if this is your model support site. Maybe you should apply that BIOS update too.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14, which has a keyboard backlight that can be turned on and off by pressing Fn+Space. Recently I've found that if I turn it off, it sometimes stays on. In this state it will flicker when the computer is tapped or bumped, or just moved around, and when placed at certain angles it will stay off. If I turn it on, it stays on consistently ? it's only when it's set to off that it doesn't work right. It seems like there must be a loose connection in there or something. Does this sound like something that can be easily fixed?

Hi all I have 2016 thinkpad yoga 12 still under warrenty, I barely used it. Suddenly, the trackpad stopped working. Its even not recognized by the windows 10. Also, I noticed that the keyboard back light is not working and the cpu fan is not blowing at all anymore. I tried a linux usb boot stick to make sure that it is a HW problem. Still not qorking under linux too ( obviously a HW probelm). I like this device alot but I think it wont be able to perform in summer because of the fan issue. Currently, I am out of country and I have no access to lenovo support. Can any one help me please?

Don't have the issues with the trackpad, but my fan too does not start at all.Everything updated, the freshest BIOS 1.30. Lenovo support unhelpful.

Hi all,  I have lost the automatic keyboard backlight setting on my X1 Yoga 20FQ. I now only have three options; off, low and high. This was after a clean install of Windows 10 x64. All known drivers have been installed from the Lenovo support pages. Searching previous forum posts suggest installing ThinkPad Settings Dependency however this has now been widthdrawn and replace by Lenovo System Interface Foundation which I have installed. anyone got any suggestions? Thanks inadvance.

Hello All The first thing you might say is, hell, another hp omen backlight issue. I know, the forum is FULL of them and I've tried almost ALL solutions. NONE OF THEM WORK. I updated from Win 8.1, had HP Omen Control and was able to change the color of my keyboard lights. I updated to Windows 10, was still able to.. but the I updated all the drivers (using the HP Support Assistant) and the keyboard backlight has vanished. Now, when I change the colors using HP Omen control, I am only able to change the speakers and power button. There is NO backlight in the rest of the system Then I did a complete fresh install of Windows 10. My half keyboard, speakers and power button became red. Even installed HP System Event Utility but did not get ANY utility to change colors (no hp omen color utility in http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-omen-15-5100-notebook-pc/7771339/model/7919205 I then did Windows 8.1 again, Upgraded to Win 10, had HP Omen (from 8.1) to change colors, but after upgrading all drivers the keyboard backlight is gone again!!! Please tell me what to do! What to install? I cant do a fresh install of WIn 10 again or do the 8.1 -> 10 route again as it takes a lot of time! Urrghh  TL/DRKeyboard backlights gone - Tried almost everything alreayd answered on this forum, nothing worked

For anyone having trouble sleeping, this ones for you.  Several weeks ago the keyboard backlight function on my Latitude E6510 (it's a recond unit from Dell Direct w/Core i3 M370, 4 GB RAM, running Win7 Pro/32-bit) stopped working. I've had the unit for over 3 years. 
Anyway, when the backlight stopped working I ran a diagnostic that produced a "warning" about the HD's imminent failure.  Not sure that was related to the keyboard issue, but taking it to heart I replaced the HDD with a SSD (cloning the HDD to the SSD).  When that didn't resolve the issue, I posted to the Forum and someone suggested doing a clean install of Win7 Pro, which I did. 
A "new" problem has arisen where I cannot seem to be able to flash the bios from its current A05.  I'm just trying to get to A09 now, and it won't work.  I tried it in Windows, where I get the "BIOS Update Program" message about keeping the AC adapter connected, etc, and then when I click on "OK" I get a popup window saying "E6510A09.EXE has stopped working."  The popup window includes an option to "Check online for a solution and close the program."  When I click on that it appears to be searching for solution for about 10 seconds, and the the popup window just disappears. 
I also tried loading DOS boot files onto a USB thumb drive, along with the executable BIOS update file, but that would not work eit... Read more

What is the battery status in the BIOS/setup? (it's listed under the "General" tab) You can also check if the keyboard backlight is enabled under the "System Configuration" tab

Hello. Back story, our company has purchased and now rolled out our Lenovo X1 Yoga laptops (model 20FQ).  During the rollout, we installed all of the drivers from lenovo's site via the MDT driver package and then deployed the latest System Inteface Foundation so we could install teh Lenovo Settings app later down the road via the Windows 10 App store.   We have not installed the lenovo settings or lenovo companion apps from the store but are now receiving reports of users getting a message from "Lenovo Companion" that an update is available.  The update that is available is an Intel ME firmware update.  Is there a way to disable or prevent these updates from pushing to users via registry or configuration file? Does the System Interface Foundations app contain the Lenovo Companion app or the update features?   Screenshot of update message attached.  We do have the ADMX templates for Lenovo Companion and Settings in our AD/GPO; would disabling updates in the GPO for Companion prevent these from running even though we don't really have the actual Companion app installed?Thanks!Further details:Win10 x64 Enterprise Edition 1607 build w/all latest patches/updates.

A:X1 Yoga and Intel ME Firmware update being pushed but how?

Lenovo System Interface Foundation (LSIF) is doing this.  The only purpose of this app is to support Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion, so if you don't install these apps, there is no point to install LSIF.  One of the features of LSIF is to automatically install "critical" updates for Lenovo software and drivers, such as this recent Intel ME Firware update.

This is a heads up message as I was able to recover my system by doing a grub2-install booting from a recovery USB. I must say I had used `fwupdmgr update` before to update my Thinkpad's firmware and it worked flawlessly. However, this last update left my boot pointing at the wiped out Windows boot in UEFI, which rendered my boot broken. If anyone from Lenovo is listening, please try to avoid breaking Linux user's systems . Hi All!Using the Lenovo System Update tool, I've updated the bios. It said everything went succesful.However under Device manager, there is an error for the System Firmware:"This device cannot start. (Code 10)Indicates a revision number encountered or specified is not one known by the service. It may be a more recent revision than the service is aware of."I've tried "Update Driver" but everytime with this same result.I've also tried "Uninstall Device". But then it goes back to a driver from 2006 (indeed the error is gone) and when I update the driver, the error is back. Also, after the update (during booting the computer, it says it was successful), the update is still listed under the System Update Tool, indicating it actually didn't install (see below). However, just trying it again, doesn't result in a different result. Does anyone have a suggestion what could be going on?(I think the bios update, which just a few days back became available, is related to certain security problems that Intel was having...)

But then it goes back to a driver from 2006 (indeed the error is gone) and when I update the driver, the error is back. I've also downloaded the bios update file, and if I run it again it says I'm trying to install the same version that is already installed, so there is no need. So this indicates is did install. However, the error message under Device manager is there... Does anyone have a suggestion what could be going on?(I think the bios update, which just a few days back became available, is related to certain security problems that Intel was having...)

Hi all, Yesterday when I turned on the computer and logged in into windows, a warning-window poped-up asking for recomended "Firmware Update" by Lenovo. I ve proceeded with the update. After an intall-restart I wasn't able to log in with my fingerprint anymore. After a small investigation I've realized that are now three devices with problems (Code 31) in my device manager.The devices are:Biometric Devices - Synaptics WBDI - SGXSensors - HID Sensor Collection V2System Devices - System Interface Foundation V2 DeviceSo, besides the FingerPrint, I'm not able to use the Auto-Rotate (when turning the lid into tablet or tent mode) feature and the Lenovo Vantage Software since it asks me to update the System Interface Foundation Driver. What I have tried so far:Reinstall (since I can't rollback) the Firmware Driver: "Type C Firmware for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Yoga 920-13IKB, Yoga 920-13IKB Glass 1.3" (since there isn't a lower version to roll back)Reinstall all drivers from Lenovo web-page (FingerPrint, System Interface Foundation, Chipset, Display, Audio, etc)And finally, Reinstall the operating system Windows 10 64 using system restore I've not clue what to do next and I'm really avoiding opening an RMA. Please help me. Thank you.

I see a lot of people asking this question, and the best answer I have seen so fare is that they are working on certifying Intel's firmware update on all vulnerable Lenovo systems as fast as they can, and will release the firmware updates as soon as possible.

After performing the May 15, 2018 update, my touchscreen no longer works.  The Wavcom device in device manager is hidden and shows "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)"  I have done extensive searches in this site and in google and have been able to find a solution.  It was working fine before the update.
