WLM spelling check language problem

Q: WLM spelling check language problem

I use Windows Live Mail for all my e-mail stuff. I need to type mails in 3 languages: Dutch, English and French. I'd like to have spelling check for these 3 languages, however spelling check for French seems to be missing. I went into options and then spelling check. There is a box with languages I can use spelling check on. This includes Dutch, English (UK), English (US), English (Australia) and English (Canada). French is not there. I really need French spelling check. How can I obtain that?
If you need more information, please leave a comment.

Thank you in advance for a response.

Preferred Solution: WLM spelling check language problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Highdetailz, welcome to 7F!

If I understand you correctly, you don't have French listed in the choice of languages box as shown in this example, correct?

Source Step #4: Windows Live Mail 2011: Add a second language to the Spell checking feature | a Tech-Recipes Tutorial

If so I may have found a way to add it. There are also two other choices you can try.

1. Run a SFC /scannow to repair any corrupt files, then check to see if WLM has the French listing back. If that doesn't work:

2. Repair WLM: In your Start menu search box, type wlarp , and click the application highlighted in the results list. Answer yes to the UAC prompt.

This brings up the dialog window to repair or uninstall. Select Repair all Windows Essentials programs. WLM is part of Windows Essentials so you have to make that choice. When the repair is finished check to see if you have French listed.

wlarp stands for Windows Live Automatic Repair Program.
If all that doesn't bring France back, the third way is more complicated, from a thread on the MS community Forum, top of page 2:

Spanish (Castellano): http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/5/E/E5E11D08-498D-4D31-9F84-1C616D79323D/spl_eses2.cab
French (France): http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/C/2/6C291687-F2CD-467E-A24F-9271E2BB9798/spl_frfr.cab

The folder for Spanish would be
%appdata%\Local Settings\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Proof\prf000A\1

and for French
%appdata%\Local Settings\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Proof\prf000C\1

Source: Installing languages not listed in the spellcheck section of Windows - Microsoft Community

How I would do this:
Make sure WLM is closed!
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Mail\Proof, check to see if you have a Folder named prf000C1 If you do not, click on the New Folder button, you will probably see an access denied pop-up, click on continue. Rename the new folder prf000C1, you're done here for now, but will come back so leave the Explorer window minimized. Go to the link in the quote and download the file for French to a place where you can easily find it (Desktop?), you may want to malware scan it for peace of mind.
Reopen the Explorer window and drag the spl_frfr.cab file to your newly created prf000C1 Folder.
Close all open windows till you reach your desktop, it doesn't say to restart windows, and I didn't
Open WLM and you should have French as an option to install, I believe you have to make it the default language at least once to make it stick in the Language selection box, after that you should have French as a spellchecker even if you're in English and spell a French word wrong.
I don't use WLM, but following the steps above placed the French option in the Language selection box for me.

The backslash \ in ?Firedog's post about naming prf000C\1 can not be used in Windows Folders/Files naming conventions, that is why I omitted it in my instructions. If you do leave it in a warning will pop up and seconds later accept the new Folder, but without the backslash \ i.e. prf000C1.

In Live Mail I work with up to 3 different languages.
I understand that the spelling check detects which laguage is used and automatically starts checking accordingly.
Some image of the spelling check menu I have seen on the net did show a "current laguage" button in the spelling check menu.
However in the menu on my computer ( Dutch version) this button is not there.
I appreciate suggestions

I have a box (in WLM 2009) that can be checked called "check spelling in current input language". Is that the one? I'm not sure what it does since my spelling is checked even if that box is unchecked but maybe it refers to the case where multiple languages are installed.

Hello to all,

I have just set up gmail account in windows 10 mail app. It looks great but immediately I noticed something that annoys me.
I cannot figure out how to set up default language proofing? Fr example I live in Europe and I have set up my default keyboard and location to match my country, bu because of my job I have to write a lot of emails in English and in German.
I found that it is not possible to switch to language when writing email. For example, when I create new email and choose language in the upper part, immediately when I start typing it switches back to default language layout. This setting is simply not remembered. So when I type almost all words are red - underlined

Right now the only way is to finish writing the complete email, then select all and chose to for example English language, and then proofing tool shows typos. Basically this way it takes me more time writing email in windows mail app comparing to gmail web.

Does anyone have similar issue?

My details are:
Windows 98 operating system. Installed Office 97 professional edition over Office 95 professional
My problem is:
My spelling checker no longer works. Instead I get a message:
The spelling check is complete. Text set to (no proofing) was skipped. To find (no proofing) text click Edit/Replace click More, click Language, click Format and choose (no proofing).

On following as best I could the above cryptic instructions, I found to my horror that parts of my document had been deleted. I have tried to activate the spelling check through Spelling & Grammar tab on Tools Options but without any success. I have looked at the custom dictionary. It is the same as the one I have used for years without trouble when I was running the predecessor to MS Word 97 SR-1. If I try to edit the Custom.Dic I get a message to set the Automatic Spell Checking check box in Tools Options - but there is no such box.
If nobody can solve this problem, will the followinf work?I have two hard discs C and D. If all else fails, is it safe for me to reinstall the Office 95 version of Word on the D disk. I have Office 98 on the C disk (where I put all my programs).

After I type a new email message in Outlook Express, when I pull down the tools menu, the spelling check option is grayed out, so I am unable to use spelling check. Do I have to buy a spelling check program? My old computer had OE 6.0 with the spelling check in the tools menu. My new computer also is running OE 6.0.

Also, this new computer did not come with Microsoft Word so I installed it from a Microsoft Office 97 disc I have. When I type up a document, I am unable to find a spelling check on any of the pull down menus. There is a "grammer" choice in the tools pull down menu but it does not correct spelling. On the same line as grammer, to the left of it is abc with a checkmark but it doesn't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

While checking for misspelled words in a document, you probably click the Ignore Once or Ignore All button a few times. Doing so lets you skip a word that you don?t want to change but that the feature thinks might be misspelled. Spelling and Grammar remembers the words you skip and skips them during subsequent checks. Most of the time, that?s what you?ll want. Occasionally, it?s a problem. You might realize that the word was misspelled and you need to change it. Unfortunately, Spelling and Grammar won?t find ignored words, after the fact.

I have received some complaints that the spelling check for Windows 10 does not work within most webforms and/or internal websites. While I am typing this message I can see squigly lines for nearly each word since my native language is Dutch and this message
is in English. This same effect does not work for all forms or fields. Sometimes it will give a squigly line but it won't offer any alternative options. It looks lik the type of field detemines if the spelling check works or not.

In the past we had an add-in for Internet Explorer called Spelling Check which was a lot more reliable. Since it is no longer available we don't know how to offer the same functionality for all forms and websites.
Please let me know if there is anything that can be done to improve this.
The current spelling check built into Windows 10 itself only seems to check certain field types. For example the field I am typing in right now seems to be working just fine, highlighting errors and making suggestions. Other websites however this feature
does not seem to work. It looks like there is a differentiation between field types.
Some of our web applications/sites no longer have a spelling check now which is a hassle for our users. Are there any known restrictions to the field types that are checked?

I have also posted this question in the Windows 10 forum because I am unsure if this should be something posted there since the issue is with the new Windows 10 spelling check however it is relate... Read more

Hi all,
Earlier this year "Check Spelling as you type" in Word 2003 worked fine. Now it does not and the red wavy line does not appear under wrongly spelled words. (unless I click Spelling and Grammar first).
I have tried every suggestion on this web page with no luck.
The registry item named '1' mentioned in the article was missing.
It's a real mystery as the 'check spelling as you type' still works in PowerPoint and also in Windows Live Mail.
I can reactivate 'check spelling as you type' in a document If I choose to run a spell check via the 'Spelling and Grammar' icon on the toolbar or from the 'tools' menu item. Only then does 'check spelling as you type' begin working again for the current document.
I tried a system restore to June which is our earliest restore point for 2014. (I have restore points for 2012 but inexplicably none for 2013. I'd rather avoid going that far back in time)
I re-installed Microsoft Office 2003
any other ideas?

I couldn't find an answer in the search base.

Upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. Strictly an internet access issue. This is a very randomly generated message, that may pop up at any time. Seems to be a function of Panda's Anti-phishing security and will occur in Opera, Firefox, and Chrome, never use IE so don't know about it. Sometimes, I can go to the previous window (or 2) and everything is fine, advancing back to the original problem window and it will open normally. Sometimes opening another browser will fix the problem. At the bottom of the error message page is a Yahoo search bar. I never use Yahoo, especially since I started getting these messages. I wonder if the problem is related to Yahoo.

http://www.pandadomainadvisor.com/search.php (this is the url displayed when I get the error message). Is there a Panda setting that I can disable or enable to prevent this from happening. The websites are viable and my internet connection is live when I get these messages. I tend to keep several windows open at once and it may infect 1 or 2 or all.

Hello All,
Please understand the scenario.

"We are developing a web based software that is used in FleetServices to process some driver and vehicle files, that contains activities (like driving, rest etc.). So the problem is that when i got a (driver/vehicle) file in German language and i try to transfer it to server, it fails if my regional setting is set to Greek Language. But i am able to transfer (driver/vehicle) file if my OS's Regional setting is other than Greek."

So my question is that why German language is not supported by operating system only if my regional setting is Greek (it is working fine if regional setting is other than Greek).

Is there a bug in Windows XP or Visual Studio 8 or we are doing something wrong.

If there German language is not supported by Greek OS then please refer my some url where such information is available which clearly speaks that this scenario is not at all supported. If it is supported then please tell me how to support it.

I would be very-very thankful to you.

I'm running Windows XP

Recently I realized that my Spell Check in Word 2000 was no longer functioning although it had been fine for years in English (UK).

When I opened up Tools - Language - and checked, it was set for Welsh.
I reset it as default English (UK) but it immediately reverted to Welsh and has steadfastly refused to change.

I've read in other threads that one should go into Registry and do X, Y and Z but I cannot find some of these references presumably because I have Office/Word 2000 and not a later version.

Any help would be most gratefully received.

Incidentally I can get round the problem to some extent when using Word by selecting all the text I've typed and then going into Tools, Language and setting English. It will then check the document properly but once I close that document I'm back to Welsh and the whole farce starts again.

Help, please.

I'm in Korea and have been using both Korean and English on my laptop. Last night my keyboard suddenly became unable to switch to Korean to type (or more specifically, would 'switch' to Korean but still use English letters when I typed). I've searched everywhere and tried everything I can to fix it but nothing is working.

From what I can gather, the Korean keyboard layout has somehow switched to English letters instead of Korean (when I go to languages/keyboards -> Change Keyboards -> select the Korean keyboard and click properties it brings up the keyboard layout and it's all English letters).

I assumed the best thing to do would be to just re-install the language, but I can't figure out how to do that. I don't have the option from the previously mentioned keyboard/languages location, and the best answer I could find online had something to do with Windows updates, but that didn't work for me either.

What am I doing wrong?

A:Language Bar/Display Language problem

Hi atwoodruff, welcome to Windows 7 Forums.

You could try a System Recovery. Open Control Panel & select Recovery & see if there is a Recovery Point that you can use, that precedes your current problem.
If that works then just install the updates that will probably show up as being needed, one at a time. Restart your computer after each one & if you find one that causes this problem, uninstall it & then hide it so it does not show up again.

I installed Windows 8 Pro and installed an additional language(let's say it's B) pack, changed system display language to B, and system locale to B.

And I got infinite BSOD after installing some drivers(not related to language pack, just I made mistake installing old programs), so I 'refresh'ed the system.

Guess what, after the refresh, system display was set to English(united kingdom, which is default), AND system locale remained as language B.

This is the problematic part;
1.I CANNOT change system display language to B, it says it's unavailable.
2.The system regards the language pack is already installed because I can still use B as system locale.
3.I cannot reinstall or remove the language pack. LPKSETUP doesn't detect B.

SO i'm pretty much stuck, and I don't want to reinstall just to change the system display language.

Is there any solution to this(removing/reinstalling language pack)?

what a terrible title, sorry for confusion but needed help in regards to those topics.

issue is, there are a lot of program that comes with multiple languages we can choose during an installation, and there are software thats just in english no matter what, and then finally the software that uses system default system locale. now when im in 1 locale english, everything is fine however as soon as switch, the software that uses system locale changes and I don't understand it anymore. I have emulator that runs old school N64 games on computer and they can only be executed when in japanese locale but when i do that, my intel HD4000 graphics software all becomes in japanese.. along with multiple other things in context menu.

how do I switch all these software that defaults to system locale to just English? pls help, thank you!

A:software default language, window language, system locale

My current workstation is running WIN XP PRO, SP2. At one point it was being used by my Russian stepson who put a bunch of games, etc. on it that were in Russian. After my own computer motherboard failed, I cleaned this workstation up but didn't reinstall windows [yet?] as I was hoping that this wouldn't be necessary.
Unfortunately, when I tried to install the setpoint software from Logitech, the splash screen and install instructions come up in Russian. The same thing also occured with one of my HP scanner programs. Although I have the language settings set to English, I do have the Russian keyboard language support also available so that my wife can type in Russian sometimes. But even though I have the language set in English [and it displays on the task bar as being in English unless I switch it to Russian], I can't download updates etc on the software that is "language" aware.
NOTE: I have called Logitech who didn't have anyone in their support area who could help me. We found one older version of the setpoint software that was showed up mainly in English although a few of the choices for location, etc. were displayed in a Russian language drop down list. even then.
I am guessing that there is some registry entry, etc. that the logitech and some HP software look at in order to provide a universal install program and the techs I talked too didn't know about?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have been installing Portuguese PhotoStory 3 on my windows 7 machine.

It install OK. I reboot. When I invoke Photostory 3 I am expecting to find it in Portuguese, ... but its still in English.
I used the official PhotoStory3Portuguese(Brazil).msi

Here's the question:
Even if I install the Portuguese version, does it still look at the OS language when invoked and say "well, your OS is in English so I am going to display in English" ?

(ps: I have the same issue on my XP machine...)
