Unable to connect to a specific SSL Web site because RC4 based Cipher Suite not sent by IE 11 in Client Hello request

Q: Unable to connect to a specific SSL Web site because RC4 based Cipher Suite not sent by IE 11 in Client Hello request

I try to connect to https://vpn.par01.softlayer.com web site with IE 11 and I always get the same following error message :

This page can?t be displayed
Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://vpn.par01.softlayer.com again. If this error persists, contact your site administrator.

By clicking on the "Change settings" button associated with this error message, the IE Advanced option tab is displayed :

from there, I can see that SSL 3.0 and all TLS versions are correctly checked ;

When I do the same test from a colleague's PC with the same Windows 7 version and exactly the same IE 11 version, there is not problem to reach this web page

When comparing Wireshark traces taken on both PC, I can see the following differences in the SSL CLient Hello packet sent by IE :

1) in the good case, this Client hello includes 26 Cipher Suites, with TLS 1.2

2) in the bad case, this Client hello includes 24 Cipher Suites, with TLS 1.2

The 2 missing Cipher Suites in the bad case are the following ones :

Cipher Suite: TLS_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_SHA (0x0005)
Cipher Suite: TLS_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_MD5 (0x0004)

In the good case, the Server hello sent by the server (in response to the Client hello) shows the TLS_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_SHA Cipher Suite is the one selected ;

In the bad case, the Client hello is answered by the server by a packet showing the following message :

TLSv1 Record Layer: Alert (Level: Fatal, Description: Handshake Failure)

After this 1st failure, my IE 11 sends a 2nd Client hello with TLS 1.0 set and 10 Cipher Suites, but none of these 10 Suites includes an RC4 based one, and it is also rejected with the same failure message as the 1st Client Hello

So, the problem seems due to the fact that my IE 11 never proposes an RC4 based Cipher Suite in the Client hello request and that the server seems to accept only an RC4 based Cipher Suite

With Firefox, the 1st Client Hello has the same lack of RC4 base Suite, and is rejected the same wya,

but the 2nd Client hello (TLS 1.0 based) includes the good RC4 Suite and is accepted in the Server Hello ;

unfortunately, Firefox is not really working for the rest of the procedure to be run after the 1st steps

and Chrome is not supported at all

To fix this Cipher Suites List, I have tried to use gpedit.msc -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> SSL Configuration Settings. Open SSL Cipher Suite Order, but no success ;

and, according to the help on this "Open SSL Cipher Suite Order" topic, the 2 missing RC4 based Cipher Suites are supposed to be used by default when using TLS 1.0

I also compared the "Open SSL Cipher Suite Order" topic between the 2 PCs : no difference seen

Any idea would be welcome

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We have recently disabled tls 1.0 and tls 1.1 for the our site https://qa.valgenesis.net . I have two PC with windows 7 . In one PC I have IE 11 with latest version and other with a bit older version . I have attached the screen shot .

In the PC with the old version i dont have any problem in accessing the site. But the PC with the IE 11 and with latest version give me

the following error . Can anyone help me out

Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://qa.valgenesis.net again. If this error persists, it is possible that this site uses an unsupported protocol or cipher suite such as RC4 (link for the details), which
is not considered secure. Please contact your site administrator.

We are unable to connect to one specific web site, however others outside of our office can connect to this site without any trouble. We are running MS windows 2003 server and all the workstations are running firefox. Most workstations are running XP, but we have 2 that are running vista. The site we cannot connect to is www,passportamerica.com. Someone suggested that it might be a proxy server issue. I'm not experienced enough to know anything about proxy servers. Any help would be appreciated.

I get a connecting.... / timeout msg when trying to connect to www.tarrantcounty.com ( Every other site I try/use works fine. Took laptop and connected OK with a public WIFI, and neighbors WIFI.

System: Time Warner Cable (roadrunner), Motorola cable modem (RR), Cisco Valet Plus M20, win 7 professional (uptodate), MSE (uptodate), FireFox 10.0.2 .

I have the same problem with two other desktops (XP home uptodate) and Vista (uptodate) and a laptop Win7 Home (uptodate)
Frustrating. Also can't ping to the site, and tracert fails at timeout when arrives at that address. WHOIS gives the correct owner.

Hey everyone! First time poster here, I found this as probably the most suitable area to post this thread in, as I only have connectivity issues to a single site and the rest of the internet works fine. Please tell me if I was wrong.

I have, until recently been using Surf The Channel (www.surfthechannel.com) IP: for general browsing on a regular basis.

Suddenly, I am greeted with a network timeout message for a solid 2 weeks when using firefox (my primary browser) as well as IE. I am able to connect to the site using a proxy, however, the site is rendered useless, with external links not working and only partial functionality.

I am fully updated with firefox and flash player.

The forums on the site will not approve registration requests of people who applied via proxies so I am unable to register a profile to discuss my technical issue! I am an occasional user of said site and I have never accessed their forums or posted anything which could cause me to be banned from using the site.

My understanding of computers is moderate for a casual user. I am able to set up routers and sort out port forwarding for my xbox 360, I know my way around the basics, so if you need me to check anything, some quick instructions to get me started should hopefully be enough :)

Just as a note, my question is regarding connectivity to the site, of which I am NOT banned. I do not wish to discuss the content of STC or any of the controversies surrounding it, not would I w... Read more

Welcome to TSF!!

So, you are having issues with only one site well that is great we know what we have to deal with. For starters I would like to know a little about your system. Mainly what version of FF you have and if you have different themes or addons. You don't need to list all of them just a simple yes will do.

My main question has to do with why you have to go through a proxy to connect to sites. Or is it just this one site, I am a little confused? Also, I would recommend that you clear your catche, and see if that helps, as I would guess that it has been a while for that.

Start with that and lets see what we can come up with.

I have recently experienced a problem on one of my computers. There is a specific web site that I cannot access (www.vistaprint.com). I have a home network (Ethernet wired) and the other 2 computers on that network can access the site.
On the computer where I have experienced the problem, I have both Firefox and IE8 installed. Neither browser can access the site. I get the following indications:
Firefox ? page opens that advises ?Unable to connect? ?Firefox can?t establish a connection to the server at www.vistaprint.com?
IE8 ? page opens that displays ?unable to connect?. When the diagnose connection problem button is clicked the message is ?The remote device won?t accept the connection?.
Since this occurs only on the one computer, I concluded that the problem was related to something on that computer, and since both browsers are unable to connect, it must not be specific to a browser. Specifics about that computer:
Windows 7 pro without SP1 installed
Microsoft Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials are only active security programs used.
I have checked Internet Options in the Control Panel. try making an exception for the site in the firewall settings...and add it to the trusted sites list in security. Also try using the IE with no add-ons in the accessories folder under system tools, if it connects, then it could be a conflict with an add-on.

Hey, guys,

I've become absolutely fed up with this recurring problem, and so I thought I'd ask here since no one else seems to know what my problem is.

Currently, I can't connect to a certain site. Specifically, it's r21freak.com - it doesn't matter much, but I thought I'd include it. About two months ago, I could access it fine. One day, it stopped loading at all. Pinging the site yields in packet timeouts.

My firewall isn't blocking any ports to the site, since I can access it from, say, my school network. I checked with the site admin and told him my IP, and he said it's not on the list of banned IPs. I talked to my ISP, who told me that they're not blocking it or restricting access to it or anything. I'm also the only tech-savvy person in my household, but just in case, I checked all the settings on my router, and could find no hint of it being blocked. As a final check, I reset it to its factory settings, and after reconfiguring the internet, it didn't help.

As far as the information about my computers/network, I have a Dell Inspiron running XP. The other computers in my household are also running XP, and have the same connection failure to this one site as I do. My router is a Linksys WRT54GS (I think? - something like that). But, if my router isn't blocking it and my ISP claims to have no interference, what could be the problem?

If anyone could shed light on this situation, I'd be more than grateful.... Read more

Hey guys.

Ever since this morning, I've had incredible difficulty connecting to a forum that I own that's hosted on iPBFree. I thought the site was down, but after talking to a bunch of my members on there, they say they can access the site just fine. I have two laptops, so I got off one, and tried to access the site on the other, and it did the same things as on the other laptop. Every other site works just fine though. Actually, for a while, I'd try another site such as Google, it'd work, then I'd go back and try the iPBfree site again, then try Google again, and it would tell me the server was down. It stopped doing that finally.

I got frustrated, and tried using a proxy site to get to the site. It actually works through a proxy site, which is odd.

My question is, how come it'll let me access it through a proxy site, but if I try to access it regularly, I get the "Server not found" message? Is it possible to get an IP virus? I'm totally clueless. lol.

Please help me out with this problem, ASAP, and I must inform you, I'm kind of computer illiterate when it comes to all the high tech fancy lingo, so bare with me. I can understand most 'net lingo though.

I haven't been able to access http://mindpoop.com for some time now, and I have not been able to solve the problem. I can access any site on the net except anything on mindpoop.com. I have contacted the admin of the site and confirmed that there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to access the site.
Through some trial and error, I believe I have diagnosed the problem to my linksys router. I can actually get onto the site when I connect directly to my modem, but when I go through the router, it will not work.
To solve this, I refered to multiple articles on linksys's website as well as many other articles I could find about this issue. This ranged from setting my router settings to default to changing my ports, to changing my MTU settings. None of this worked!
I have spent countless hours trying to fix this problem, and to no avail. It's not like I desperately need to get on that site, but it bothers me that my computer has a problem that I cannot fix.
Help please!

Hello sir,

The web server only supports SSL certificate cipher suite TLS_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA(0x0009), as well as only RSA 512 bit unsafe key.
According to https://support.microsoft.com/ko-kr/help/2661254/microsoft-security-advisory-update-for-minimum-certificate-key-length, I added registry key, Chain\minRSAPubKeyBitLength
is 512 decimal, and modify list data value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Cryptography\Configuration\Local\SSL\0001002\Functions which are added "TLS_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA" and deleted "TLS_RSA_WITH_NULL_xxx".

As you see above screen shot, one client PC is good on hand shaking process of TLSv1 especially sending "Client Key Exchange, Change Cipher Spec, Finished" TLS packets well.

Despite same config, the other client PC is, on the contrary, bad on TLS connection. This client PC missed "Client Key Exchange, Change Cipher Spec, Finished" TLS packets sending
next "Server Hello Done" packet.
Two client PC is same os windows 7, and same browser ie8, of course.
How can I solve this problem.....I appreciate your help.

Hi everyone,

I am new here and am not that much 'techie' minded so am going to try my best at explaining what's been going on from start to finish with my computer, hopefully not leaving anything out. If you do need more info please don't hesitate to ask with prompts on how to get this info (I know some stuff but not everything so a step-by-step approach would be the best for me).

I have a Windows XP Home Edition Ei System that is about 7 years old. It is an Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.06 GHz 3.05 GHz, 480 MB of RAM.
It has only had a service once in its' lifetime when I moved from upstairs to the living room and we ended up not having any internet because of the modem hardware getting damaged internally - that got fixed and it's been very loyal to me. It had a new monitor a couple of years ago (a Samsung LCD that has since died and last August got another Samsung SyncMaster 943) monitor. A few mouse changes, same keyboard and everything else is the same.
In the last 6 months though it has been paying up, whatever the reason (viruses I suspect) and I have had some weird happenings like the start button disappeared and all the desktop icons - before Christmas 2009 so did a full system recovery with the System Recovery CD-Rom, that seemed to have sorted it, temporarily anyway. On St. Patrick's day this year I did another full system recovery after much the same happening. I must tell you at this point that I do from time to time download files from the internet using ... A:Unable To Log Into ONE Specific Site

I had read the sticky to get the scans and data needed - the DDS.scr and GMER. I downloaded both of those and followed the steps to a T with the intention of opening another thread in the virus/spyware/trojan section, but the strangest thing happened. I did the dds.scr and save both reports to the desktop. Proceeded with the GMER and after a couple of minutes, the PC restarted by itself, and that's what it's doing now - restarting over and over again all by itself. It won't let me load in any of the 5 options, not normally, safe, last known good configuration - nothing. It appears as if Windows will load then for a split second a blue screen comes up with some text on it I can't read as it's too quick but something about system registry. What on earth am I to do now with this? Please, please help. I was trying to find a solution to not logging in to one website, now I can't use the PC at all. I am typing this from my husbands' laptop which I hardly ever have access to.

There's a website that, for some reason, I cannot connect to. Each time I try to, Firefox just gives me the old error:

The server at metal-archives.com is taking too long to respond.

(the site = http://metal-archives.com/ by the way)

The same thing happens on all of my web browsers, and in fact no computer on the network at my house that's connected to the Internet can go to the site, though I know it's not down. I'm not IP-blocked from the site, and I can still visit it through proxies.

What could be causing this, and what can I do about it? I hate having to go through a proxy everytime I want to use it. :/

A:I cannot connect to one specific site for some unknown reason.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

It may be something to do with your ISP. Hence why using a proxy lets you contact the site.

The reason I say this, is because my ISP has been having a few problems lately and I`ve had the same problems connecting to certain sites, although in my case the problem is intermittent.

Contact your ISP and see what they say.

If it turns out it`s nothing to do with your ISP, then I don`t know what the problem is.

I heard of some type of command prompt called cmd cipher? what does that do? is it like a computer command that overwrittes files? What i got out of it is that it is like a......... manual secure deletion technique. Now besides just spitting at me a link to some software or program, actullay explain to me if what i am saying is right or just totally crazy. I need to know if that command does something totally different. Here is how i get the command to run in case you have no idea as to what i am talking about. i heard that you go to start menu > run> cmd > cipher/w:'foldername' ( or if you choose the c drive or some other drive) that all the data will be encrypted. Will the data that has come from the drive or folder that has been erased been securley wiped as well? or does this just encrypt already present files? i dont know and id really like to know how and what the heck this is. But this is where i got to know of this action you could take- http://www.governmentsecurity.org/archive/t10926.html and also http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298009 could you explain what this is saying to me if i dont already have the right idea. I would greatly appreaitate it.

A:[SOLVED] what is start menu cmd cipher cipher /w:'foldername' do for a computer

Hi dainquisitive1

From what I understood, cipher with the /w parameter will overwrite the space that was previously used by deleted data in order to make it impossible for someone else to recover that data by running an undelete utility on it.

When you delete some data on your hard drive, the data isn't physically removed until some other data is written over it. Instead the only thing that's removed is the header in the file allocation table telling where data xyz is stored. With the proper utility someone can recover the content of the "deleted" data as long as it's not been overwritten.

cipher /w will overwrite the unallocated data on the choosen drive/volume. It won't encrypt anything since the /w parameter makes cipher ignore all other parameters.

I tried to access PAYPAL through my usual URL, https://www.paypal.com/ using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Chrome 48. on February 15th. after pressing ENTER, I got a Green lock, next to the URL, and a blank screen. I could go no further. Clicking on the lock, a small dropdown appeared, showing 2 cookies from Paypal below a message "Your connection to PAYPAL is private" the connections tab showed that PAYPAL was verified, but my connection was encrypted using an obsolete cipher suite". I could not continue. I had been able to access and use PAYPAL on Feb 9, with no problem. Googled everything I could think of with no fix found. I finally reached a live person at PAYPAL Customer support. Who told me that it was something on their end (he did not elaborate) and suggeested I try IE11. I downloaded and installed IE11, tried to access PAYPAL, and got an error message "Access forbidden error 403". I called PAYPAL again and got the tech support line, who told me my account was locked, then he unlocked it, and I was able to get in. The following day, I tried to access PAYPAL again, and it again returned the "forbidden 403" error. I called PAYPAL again, got a support agent who had no clue what to do, and told me to talk to MY ISP provider.

Note: I was able set up remote desktop (from my job) on my sister's desktop and can connect, she also has Comcast as ISP and is using a wireless router.

I tried checking with our administrator he couldn't figure out why. I hope someone can help! I'd like to be able to work from home!!

Hi All;I have a machine that was riddled with malware/viruses which has since been cleaned. Problem know is it will not connect to certain sites. I am unable to connect to the following sites:windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ (and other variations)www.eset.com (also unable to update defs)www.symantec.comwww.bleepingcomputer.comI'm sure there are some others but those are the ones I have tried. Also I am not able to run ComboFix.exe without renaming to something else like Ex. iexploere.exe. After renaming it works fine so something is also blocking apps by name.I have reset the network, firewall and host file along with flushing the DNS. I checked through the registry for any thing that would prevent these site from loading/connecting. What else is there that can block particular sites from connecting.Thank you!**UPDATE** I got it, there was another gremlin running and NOD32 killed. Had to pull the drive and slave it to another PC then ran NOD32 on that drive. I am now able to access those sites :DInfection found: windows\system32\drivers\clbdriver.sys (Win32/Rootkit.Agent.AII trojan)

Well two sites.

I can't get to my bank scotiabank.ca or bmo.com which is bank of montreal. I can get all other banks, and email sites so I don't think I'm looking at a secure site issue.

My time and date are fine, I killed my av and router firewall(put my laptop in dmz) and set everything in IE7 to low and back to defaults plus cleared out all the caches.

I tried a trace and pings. Trace gets "Unable to resolve target system name www.scotiabank.ca" and pings cannot find host.

My broswer says "oops this link appears to be broken" with "DNS error-can not find server" in the corner and its a google search thing that says it.

The trace and pings get the same result by ip aswell.

I assume its my router as it's happening on my desktop and laptop but I haven't bypassed it just yet to prove it will work just through the modem.

I also did a system restore just to try it and it was unsuccessful in resolving the issue.

A:Solved: Unable to connect to a single site.

Try and in your browser. If that works then it is a DNS issue.

BTW, I cannot ping them either but that doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. I can access both by web URL and IP.

To anyone with knowledge about LANs, NATs, and port forwarding around a router.

I am on an iMac OS 9.1 on a small home LAN (3 macs) connected by a simple hub to a Cisco 675 router which is connected to ADSL (640 Kb/s Qwest)

I see from other postings that it is not always trivial to play host for an online game if you have DSL and are on a LAN. Apparently requests from other players to join your game must be directed by the game server through a specific game port in the router to your location in the LAN by a little thingy called NAT (though why I don't need NATs help to direct my web traffic to my little box I have no idea). I have been wrestling with this problem off and on for about 2 months now and am getting nowhere. I hope someone in the forum can help me out.

A post in Help from Gameranger (the Mac gameserver in this case though I don't think this problem is unique to Macintosh in anyway) said, after trying to explain about port forwarding and NAT, to enter the local address of the router "into your browser"! The local address for the router is but I have no idea where to enter such an address into a browser (They don't answer e-mail requests for clarification). I tried the proxy box in IE and all it did was lock up my computer. Anyone have any suggestions on this fix??

I tried to learn a little about my router, NAT, and port forwarding. If I have it right, NAT permits the router to determine which box on a LAN incoming requests s... Read more

A long time ago I was messing around with various processes and services in Win7 x64, and one thing I did and promptly forgot about was that I renamed the avg cache server file AVGCHSVA.EXE to a different filename, to prevent this process from loading.

Now, months later, I'd like to re-enable AVG's cache server process, but simply renaming the file back to the original name, and checking the appropriate box in AVG's settings, gives me an error message.

Unless the filename itself has changed in newer versions, I suspect my problem is that my AVG installation (overall) is now version, and the version of the AVGCHSVA.EXE file I have is a much older version.

If anyone knows an easy way to get version of AVGCHSVA.EXE, please post here or PM me. Perhaps some kind soul could even email a copy to me. Thanks!

If that's the case, you shouldn't need a program; every server software I've ever worked with maintains a list of connected clients. Even if it doesn't, couldn't this function also be performed by pinging the computers?

When I receive an email sent to the alias it resolves to my username from the address book and is delivered to my inbox. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

I'm trying to look for an alternative robust email client to outlook -- want to start gradually moving away from Ms Office to cheaper solutions.

I don't like the way Ms is going with subscription based Office 365 and Office 2013 is IMO "The Pits" - office 2010 works fine but I want where possible to start using alternatives. Libre Office is fine for some things but not quite ready for prime time yet (IMO) especially for EXCEL but I can start moving away from office gradually with an email client first.

The email client must NOT be web or browser based (I Hate webmail type of things) and must support IMAP. I don't want it to have ADWARE or NAGWARE (you know those that keep persuading you "Please update to PRO version etc etc"). It must also support MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS. It should ideally have a similar or identical interface to OUTLOOK -- simple plain, not like the background I've seen on some Gamers machines !!!!

If it can integrate with GMAIL that's fine but not mandatory. Preferably free too .

I did see a portable client ISCRIBE at i.Scribe and InScribe: A Small and Easy to use Email Client but it looks as if it might be a little experimental.

I discarded OPERAMAIL -- don't want any BROWSER or web mail type of stuff.

Linux has some decent choices such as EVOLUTION (probably one of the best if not the best) but Windows seems a bit lacking in this area -- pity OUTLOOK EXPRESS wasn't continued after XP -- it was small, simple and could als... Read more

A:alternative email client to Outlook (NOT WEB BASED) please

From my previous post in Need a good email client :
Mozilla Thunderbird. You might be put off by claims about its future (no more development) but it will still be supported for a long time (stability/security fixes still going on). Zimbra Desktop Incredimail Pegasus Mail Opera Mail eM Client Windows Live Mail / Windows 8 Mail App
When have you tried opera mail last ? It should be separate from the browser today (it still uses the old presto engine while the browser uses the chrome one), check here : Opera Desktop Team - Opera Mail

Thunderbird, and Zimbra are all good choices and should fit your requirements. eM Client is very nice but it supports only 2 mail accounts on free version. Pegasus Mail is quite good but the UI is old now and it doesn't feel like outlook. Incredimail has promotional tag lines in your outgoing email and some ads show up.

Not included in this list is Claws Mail - the email client that bites!, since I never tried it. It seems to be OK, it's open source and works on both linux and windows, the interface looks a bit like outlook express, and it supports multiple accounts and IMAP. It might be what you're looking for.

Hello message board! Just a few questions here I can not seem to find out via Google, manuals, and reading other forum posts... We are attempting to utilize a t610 with the Linux based o.s. and are running into a few hurdles... I have seen on "Windows" based thin clients, after you make a change to something, you must "Commit" the changes... Is there a way to do this on a Linux box? It seems that the o.s. partition is Read Only?? Also, is there a way to navigate files and folders on this type of thin client? I see the terminal in "Admin" mode and I can kind-of nav files and folders through the text editor, but I am at a semi-loss doing things this way... I know this may be a stupid question, but is there a way to re-image this thin client to a "Windows" based o.s.? The main problem I am experiencing is an add-on/extension in firefox is not "sticking" in my firefox browser.... I have installed the extension many times, and after I restart the browser, it is gone and my settings are reverted to "original"... I am taking a guess here, but I am guessing every time this client "reboots" it is booting to an image?? One last question, is there any "manuals" for these Linux based clients? I see most or all of the helps seems to be geared towards Windows, and would just like a reference... Thanks for reading!Brandon

A:T610 Linux based thin client

If you're talking about the HP ThinPro OS- Before you can make changes to the file system, you need to run this command from the terminal - "fsunlock". When you're done, "fslock" locks the file system again. There isn't another file explorer tool included that I'm aware of in ThinPro. Command line and the notepad tool are the only real ways to navigate the file system. If you're looking for help with something, keep in mind it is basically a stripped-down version of Ubuntu, with some extra utilities and GUI provided by HP. The nuts and bolts are the same as an Ubuntu build so I've gotten quite a bit of insight from Ubuntu forums online for problems that I've had. As for your browser extensions issue, depending on how you're doing this, you can configure connections to allow them to configure their own settings, or to use HP ThinPro settings. If you haven't allowed Firefox to create and use its own settings in the file system, nothing you change inside the browser will stick. I haven't tried installing a browser extension but I'm pretty sure that's where your problem is.

i have a spreadsheet that updates with data from a number of different sources. i need to filter only the relevant data that i need. i'm almost there but need to find out how to pull 2 more pieces.

in the attached spreadsheet the cells i need are in column R and T. I need to know the corresponding "name" and "size" of the data that is in column S.

unfortnuately the actual values don't show up in the spreadsheet b/c they are live data feeds but the formulas written up until now are still there.

in a nutshell what i'm doing is getting 5 price feeds and i need to filter out which is the highest updated within the last 2 minutes. i actually have the only the price figured out in column S, but i also now which name and how big the size is related to that price.

I'm lookiong for a simple macro that will do the following

Open when excel starts
and select a TAB based on the date (month & year)

I have a calendar month on each tab - although I may change this to one work sheet later

I would like a macro to auto open to
1) the month Tab based on current month

If its July 2012 then it opens the Tab called Jul 12
if is aug 2013 then it opens a tab called Aug 13 tab
for all months - I can change the name of the TAB if that helps make it work in a loop - to minimise the code
so something like find the current month Year then append those to create a name for the TAB

goes to a specific cell in a sheet if i have the calendar all in one sheet
so again I can add the text in a cell - so the it can just look up the date and find the cell - rather than code for all likely cells

so something like in cell A20 have Jul13
and then search for that - if its Jul 13

I'm playing with some ideas for a work schedule and report schedule sheet to be available via a website for people to view - BUT i have very limited functionality with the website as its based on SharePoint shell

Office version is 2007 , but i may test on 2003

found some code

i have found some code which will open the worksheet and highlight the cell with the date in

How do i search through all tabs so i dont need to specify the tab

Hi, I am new here.

Have to create database based from data stored in xlsx file. Converting to CSV, and than importing to database would be an nice solutione, but the problem is a little bit difficult.
The text in the xlsx file is stored in 1 column, while there is 409 rows.

Looks like this:
I have to separate, and copy parts of the each row, based on specific characters.

Will explain on the folowing text(this is in column A)
(BAB) STOFFOVÁ, V. et. al. : Informatika, informačné technológie a*výpočtová technika : Terminologický a*výkladov slovník. 1. vyd. Nitra : Fakulta prírodných vied UKF v*Nitre, 2001. 230 s. ISBN 80-8050-450-4

1. '(BAB)' should go to Column B. So select text till first ')' character, and copy to B, in same row.
2. 'STOFFOVÁ, V. et. al.' goes to column C. spec. char. here is ':'
3. 'Informatika, informačné technológie a*výpočtová technika : Terminologický a*výkladov slovník.' This goes till first dot.
4. The rest of the text.

I am pretty sure in that there is some nice and smart solution for this, but I cant manage it.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thank You in advance!
