How to install a SIM in ThinkPad T530

Q: How to install a SIM in ThinkPad T530

I have a problem with my ThinkPad T530 model 2429NL6, on which Win 10 is running.I purchased a data SIM card and inserted it into the SIM card slot, but I can't connect to the data network.I can't understand if the modem is missing, if the modem is present but the driver is missing, or if it's a problem installing the network in Win 10.How can I move around?(I ask for a simple language in the answer, as I am an inexperienced user)Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Ok, so here's a long story. Purchased a Thinkpad T530 5 years ago. Configured it with two drives that came from Lenovo (one in main HDD bay, another one in Ultrabay - one was IIRC Hitachi and the other one Toshiba, can't remember which was installed in which bay). OS was Windows 8 Home (installed on HDD in main bay) which I sported for a only few weeks since I was confronted with Ultrabay HDD constantly (every 5-10 minutes) parking its head (clicking noise). Being unable to successfully resolve the issue I decided to ditch Windows 8 and install Windows XP 32-bit (also on the main bay HDD). Problem? Gone. In the meantime, I decided to sport a dual-boot system and installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)  on the Ultrabay HDD (in the meantime I replaced the Ultrabay HDD that came from Lenovo with a WD 7500BPKT drive). Problem? None whatsoever, probably because the HDD was constantly in use since it had a OS (which became my main OS) installed on it. Fast forward to a few days ago. Bought a Crucial MX300 2TB 2.5'' SSD and installed it into the main HDD bay. Purchased a SAMSUNG 850 EVO mSATA SSD and installed it into the mPCIE slot. Left the WD 7500BPKT HDD in Ultrabay. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) onto Samsung mSATA SSD and? Problem with Ultrabay HDD constantly (not as frequently as other people using AHCI+Windows+Intel Rapid Storage drivers were reporting though - once every 5-10 minutes in my case vs once every minute or so as reported by other users) parkin... Greetings - I have a Lenovo T530 Laptop - Windows 10 installed. Each time I attempt to shut down the laptop, the laptop automatically restarts itself. I replaced that power jack because the power button also wasn't working either. I had this same problem regardless of whether Windows 7 or 10 was on it. I have 10 and loaded most Lenovo Drivers, including any with management, chipset. Also, the power options are reset to default - that didn't make any difference either. According to the diagnostics tests, there are no hardware issues. It is only happening on this particular T530 - not have been able to replicate the same problem on others. Any ideas?? Thank you in advance!

Hello all, I have a real difficulty choosing between these two W520 and T530.  Both are used and prices close.  The main differences are listed as below: (1) CPUW520  i7-2720QMT530  i5-3320M(2) Graphics and displayW520  Nvidia graphics card (Quadro 2000) with FHDT530 Intel 4000 with 1600x900 (3) PriceW520 is $60 more than T530. I am planning to use the laptop mostly for word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentation in classroom, HD video watching, no video editing.  Any advice or helpful information will be appreciated.

A:Which one to choose - ThinkPad W520 or T530?

For those tasks you wouldn't need a Core i7 or discrete graphics, save yourself some money and go for the T530.The only disadvantage would be 1600x900 instead of 1920x1080, but it would be hard to see the difference.

Good day The T530 will not accept a replacement non-genuine Lenovo battery, I am aware of this. However, I have acquired a 2nd-hand extended battery that IS a genuine Lenovo battery, and when my T530 boots up, it still complains that the battery is not authorised and will not charge. Sure enough, it does not charge. Does anyone know why this would be? The battery is a 8.4 Ah, 94Wh. FRU 42T4969 ASM 42T4802, registered Lenovo product. Many thanks, Ian

Hi, my T530 has recently starting giving me trouble rebooting in regular mode. Whereas I can reboot in safe mode, I do not even reach the initial login screen when I attempt to start-up regularly. All I get is a black screen with a visible cursor. Any ideas where this is coming from and what problems I have?

A:Thinkpad T530 not starting in regular mode

Most likely a bad driver since in Safe Mode windows uses generic drivers.   My guess would be the video driver, so while in Safe Mode, use device manager to uninstall the existing video driver and start clean. Right click on Start and select Device Manager or Start >> Run and type: devmgmt.msc  and press EnterClick on Display Adapters to openRight Click on the Intel HD Graphics and select Uninstall,  making sure to check the box to "Delete the driver software for this device".RebootIf it was the video driver, then Windows should boot normally using a generic driver, and then download and install a new driver via Windows Update. Since it just started, running a disk check (chkdsk) would be a good idea too.Right Click on Start and select Command Prompt (Admin) and press EnterIn the Command Prompt (Admin) window, type:   chkdsk C: /f   and press EnterPress Y to accept scheduling scan for next bootReboot and it will run at startupGood Luck,

Hi Folks, I got my thinkpad T530 last week. I tested the skype after opening the box and it works. Then I took off the original 320G HDD and put my 830 SSD on it, reinstalled the win8 and blah blah blah.Just last night when I tried to chat with my parents on skype i found out the the camera is dead. I tried by doing so:1) according to others threads I uninstall most of the unnecessary drivers;2) reinstall the camera driver;3) deleted the ricoh media driver;4) updated the BIOS;5) tired to locate someone mentioned, the "privacy" problem. But the video/camera option is not even showing up by Fn+F6;6) downloaded and installed the thirdparty AMCAM and it says no camera device can be found.  Please let me know if there is anything else i can do. Thank you ,

I've been trying to find a solution for two full dsays now.My problem:Yesterday morning my t530 windows 10 (upgrade from 8.1) did not open normally. Slow booting and once in Windows, no more audio or wifi or access to startup menu. I did have two upgrades this week, one from Windows 10 and another for the new Bitdefender 2017 upgrade which I accepted. I don't know for sure if there is a link but I suspect there is. I have intented doing a refresh, reset from the diagnostic page and form the prompt page a scan and scannow but to no avail. I downloaded on a bootable USB flash drive rufus windows 10. I have disables secure boot and enabled legacy. When I do an F12 I see the nane of my USB HDD in the list, but when i press enter it just goes back to the top the Boot Menu screen to Windows Boot manager. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:T530 won't boot from USB flash drive -- ThinkPad

I wouldn't use rufus.  I suggest making the USB stick in UEFI mode from a computer running with a UEFI boot using the MS media creation tool:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You can boot from the USB stick in UEFI mode.

I am considering buying a used T530 with Intel CORE i7-3520M 2,9 GHz and intel HD 4000 graphics I own a T510 and the coil whine is bad. is this a problem on the T530 with i7?I understand that there's been problems wiith fan noise, but  a bios update fix that. I am using Thinkpad fancontrol on my t510 and it works fine I understand Thinkpad fancontrol works on T530, but what is the lowest fan speed.? My T510 runs around 2400-2500 rpm at lowest speed and the noise profile is kind of annoying, should be a bigger fan really which runs at around 2000 rpm I am buying with the 1600 display which in reviews says is good. Maybe windows blocked the driver or something i don't know. I've deinstalled the fingerprint software AND the driver in device manager. reboot, and installed all again. nothing.. how can this be?

I tried everything - creating, setting, deleting Windows color profiles, updating drivers, disabling drivers... I got a bit desperate and started disabling services and processes until I disabled the following process:...and my screen was suddenly OK. Notice how the screenshot is also reddish. This again is due to that little **bleep**. I don't know what it does but it even manages to crap all over screenshots, not just the display. After I found that this caused the trouble, I deleted all of it at this location:C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\ImController\PluginHost Now everything works fine and I can see white on my screen for the first time in a year.

Hello,I will write first what my goal is. I would like to have USB 3.0 port on the ExpressCard card (I can buy a new one recommended), but it should be able to supply power, feven only for a small pendrive, a smartphone, although my first goal was to connect at least one external USB drive.I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T530 laptop.I really need extra USB ports in it.So I bought one ExpressCard/34 card first, which adds 2 USB3.0 ports and has the option of additional power supply. This is a Manhattan card.Link:https://manhattanproducts.eu/manhattan-en-superspeed-usb-expresscard34-150583.htmlI installed the NEC uPD720200 driver which was on attached CD.Initially, I was hoping to even connect 2 external USB drives. The disk normally works on other USB ports. With a pendrive only 1GB, it was the same. The smastphone also only plugs in so that it only powers it, but it does not shot its disk or it shows it, but it is unavailable to enter it.So I bought another ExpresCard card with 2 USB3.0, this time from 4World company. Hi. I can't get the webcam to work. I got this laptop around mid June of this year. Tried to use the webcam for the first time today, Nothing. My device manager doesn't even list a camera. I tried to intall the driver (twice) to see if that would help, but as far as I can see, it's had exactly 0 effect. I downloaded the lenovo settings app, and it's not there, either. At least, I see no setting options for it. But this model of laptop supposedly has a webcam built in, and my model looks pretty much exactly like the others I see on google images, except for a circly light thing in the strip where the camera is supposed to be. I have no idea what the hardware/wiring should even look like so I can't help there. I've been at this for hours. At this point I would just buy a webcam off Amazon or something if I could be sure that the laptop would actually register it.

I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 using an unattend.xml I created.  I even added the feature not to delete PnP devices and so forth.  The problem is, even on the images I did for T520's the Ricoh card reader never installs when I apply the image. Even if I try to download the driver from the website and load it, "Windows can't load driver".  The only way I got it to work on the T520's was by manually selecting HID device and browsing to the driver.  Now on the T530 I can't get that to work and even if I select SD Host Adapters same thing. Any ideas?  I'm about to say screw it and just disable it since not many of our users actually use it.

Hi. I've got a T530, Type 2359-CTO, S/N xxxxx 12/07, currently running an Intel Core i5-3210M CPU at 2.50GHz. I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit.

I run a lot of computationally-intensive statistical analyses (I'm a biology grad student) that are CPU-limited in terms of their speed. Some of these runs can take days or even weeks to complete, so it would be worth it to me to upgrade my CPU to something as fast as possible. Even a 10% performance boost for CPU-limited tasks would be a pretty big deal to me.

What I'm looking to find out is, what is the absolute fastest CPU that I can install in this thing? Also, are any of the available processors likely to give me a significant performance boost in terms of CPU-limited computation? I really like this laptop in general and don't want to get another one if I can meaningfully upgrade the one I've already got. By the way none of the analysis programs I run are multi-threaded, but I do often run more than one analysis at a time so I benefit from extra cores that way.

I'm not concerned about power consumption or heat production ? one of the things I love about the T530 is how robust and effective its cooling is, and I've got the 90W power adapter which of course is connected when I'm chewing on big datasets, but would be willing to upgrade to a beefier power brick if necessary.

This seems like it ought to be a fairly simple question but after a search of several forums including this one I find I'm none the... Read more

A:What is the fastest CPU I can install in my T530?

I am not trying to convince you not to upgrade the CPU, but I want to state a couple of things first. Even for CPU-intensive tasks, more memory is often a bigger help than faster clock speed. Your CPU uses 35w. An i7-3820qm uses 45w, so it will quite a bit hotter, but it is a CPU that is commonly. If money is no object, I have been told that the i7-3920XM processor will also work. I know it has been used in a w530, but I don't know if it is being used in a T530. The W530 has a little larger fan, which is good because the i7-3920 uses 55W and will help heat your house.  The CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty

Hi My T530 will not boot properly. I think that there is some software glitch on my T530 hard drive stopping it booting. It was installed with Windows 10. I tried all the blue screen functions including refresh whilst maintaining files. None worked.I also have a T470 with Windows 10 installed.I would like to download the files from the T530 hard drive before reinstalling Windows 10. I do not have an external hard drive caddy and would rather not have the expense of buying one - otherwise I would just put the drive in that and copy the files.I would like to put the SSD hard drive from the T470 into the main bay of the T530 to see whether it all works ok and if so to put the the old hard drive from the T530 in a caddy in the ultrabay to get the files off it, before then reinstalling it using a system image on a portable hard drive. Will this scheme work? Can I take the hard drive from the T470 and put it in the T530 and expect the T530 to function? Can I do any damage thereby? Thanks for your help Dan

Assuming that you are installing using USB installation media, make sure that your USB drive is plugged in to a USB 2.0 port, and not a USB 3.0 port, and usually you will not get that error.    After Windows 7 is installed, you can then then add the USB 3.0 support.      You might also try going into the BIOS and setting USB3.0 Mode to disabled under the Config >> USB options while you do the install.Good Luck,

Hello, Community! I'm about to do a clean install of Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit on a T530 (BIOS v2.68) with an SSD. My issue is I'm new to UEFI and have never done an install with UEFI. I suspect that my apporpriate install BIOS Setup should be:UEFI/Legacy Boot: UEFI OnlyCSM Support: YesDoes the T530 support a UEFI boot interface similar to pressing F1 and getting into BIOS? Then after I install Windows 7 then install all the T530 HW drivers, I should set the BIOS settings to:UEFI/Legacy Boot: BothUEFI/Legacy Boot Priority: UEFI FirstCSM Support: Yes Does my above configuration plan make sense? I have two requirements once Win7 is installed - first, I must be able to boot from an external USB when needed. Second I must be able to boot into either BIOS or some UEFI graphical interface (I see on this forum that when some people set UEFI they lose that ability).. Will my above plan achieve this for me? Thank you!

A:Clean Install of Windows 7 Pro on a Lenovo T530 with an SSD - UEFI Issue?

Hello and welcome,

I've moved your post to the T-series forum.

A couple of quick thoughts.  Others will probably have more suggest.

Boot your installer via the USB 2.0 ports.  Clean '7 won't have USB 3.0 drivers and the installer will fall over.

If booting the installer from a flash drive you'll have to modify the it for UEFI booting. Don't know about a DVD.

F12 will get you the boot menu and on current UEFI machines there will be a tab for BIOS access.  Not sure about the 530.
Depending on what you're going to be booting via USB in the future UEFI-only may be fine.  Doesn't really matter if you leave at "both" but occasionally something will boot in the "other" mode and produce unexpected results.  I'm inclined to leave it at whatever the OS install mode is and toggle as necessary - but whatever floats your boat.

A:M2 SSD Install P50 Thinkpad

There is another thread which addresses your questions, and also provides pictures (slide show).  This picture shows the interior of the P50, including the M.2 bay with its provided screws.  But you must order the "installation tray" part in which the NVMe SSD is held, with the tray then plugging into the PCIe connector.

And yes, you can then clone the provided Windows from off of the HDD you bought onto the NVMe drive (using assorted cloning products, e.g. Macrium Reflect) and then get into the BIOS to change the boot sequence so that you will be booting from the NVMe SSD.

Has anyone successfully installed Ubuntu 16.04 on an 11e with Windows 10? I've had several issues. Finally got a complete install but it will not boot from grub. Throughout all my attempts there is a soft lockup that occurs usually on CPU#1 or #2 for ~23s and then it locks up completely. The complete install happened after I changed the quick splash option to noapic in the boot protocol. Secure Boot has been disabled, windows hibernation has been disabled, I've tried with and without partitioning drive space prior to install, all solutions that Ive been able to find online have been tried. Booting from USB CD  on thumb drive created with Rufus, boot order has been properly configured on BIOS/UEFI. I would think this would be a straightforward install, all my other experiences with Lenovo machines have been smooth, which was why I bought the 11e in the first place.Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone. I purchased a Thinkpad P-50 with a i7-6700HQ, 16G RAM, 4K screen, NVIDIA QUADRO M1000M, WIN 10 Home, and a 500GB HDD. I want to install a Samsung 950 PRO SSD M.2 NVME with 512 GB to be the system/windows boot and keep the HDD for data. I allready purchased the 950 PRO and the M.2 tray to do this. This is what I know so far: 1) I have to install the 950 PRO with the tray inside the P-50, 2) I have to install the Samsung controller driver, 3) I have (or can) to clone the HDD content onto the 950 PRO using the Macrium Reflect Free software, 4) Set the BIOS to boot from 950 PRO, and that's it....I know that can always make a clean install of the Windows 10 if something gets wrong. I would like to know if you guys think that this is a right procedure?  Can I just clone the entire HDD to the 950 PRO?  Am I forgetting something? Thank you very much!

Installed a new HD in an IBM ThinkPad 600E.
Bought used, have no Diskettes.
1) How do I get past the IBM ThinkPad built-in Diagnostics, to get the HD recognized and Formatted?
Do I need a special Utility, or is there a way around it?

2) Also: ( I have not been able to find the answer to this one):
Does anyone know if there is a HD size limit for this ThinkPad?

Thanks, Ravenquille

Hello everyone! This is my first time using this service and grateful for it. I pray someone has had this problem and knows how to remedy it. I have a Thinkpad 760 EL that worked great until I decided to format the hard drive to install a full version of Win 98 SE. My thinking was that I would just put in my swappable/internal cd rom drive and the Win 98 cd and boot the laptop and it would load. That was 2 weeks ago, and I still can't figure out how to load the OS now. The DOS does not recognize the cd rom on boot up, even though the drive lights up, and when I use the floppy drive and a WIN 98 startup disk, DOS can't find a cd rom device to load drivers for, because of course, the cd rom isn't in it's bay. (where the floppy resides). I even tried hooking up an external LPT parallel port cd rom, but DOS won't recognize or boot from that device either. I am going crazy! The tech at the computer store wants $60.00 to perform what he called a "clean boot". All I want is for my loving laptop to recognize a cd rom so I can reinstall my OS.
My understanding of the BIOS is minimal, but I have been to the IBM (F1) setup screen, and all the on-board devices check out ok, including the internal cd rom, when it's on-board. I don't know what to do with the settings. Please help! Thank You! Scott

Hi, I recently bought a P52 that I am trying to install windows 7 on. I understand Microsoft has said any CPUs past skylake are only compatible with windows 10 however many people but there are ways around this. I have tried using the gigabyte utility in this method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VTC4k6SLWY&t=1172s . I have gotten into the windows 7 install screen and selected the Intel extensible USB 3.0 and 3.1 drivers. However the system states that these drivers are not compatible with the current hardware. So @bananaman (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Installing-windows-7-on-ThinkPad-Extreme/m-p/...) what driver specifically is missing to allow for windows 7 install? Is it USB drivers? SATA? NVME? Flat out CPU incompatibility?
