ibm thinkcentre + xp pro install

Q: ibm thinkcentre + xp pro install

Im trying to install windows xp professional onto my ibm thinkcentre(mt-m 811324u) machine. I get as far as the following comment. Please wait while setup copies files to windows installation folders, set up copying files.

After that operation is completed the machine reboots, this is where my problem lies, if I do nothing the machine continues to reboot over and over without stopping. If I interrupt the reboot and direct the boot up to drive D where the xp disc is , it merely starts the whole installation process again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I ran a fdisk and format procedure before installing the xp program.

The machine ran well before getting totally corrupted forcing me to clean the slate totally. So I know in the past xp pro was on this machine and running.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Boot into Setup (Bios) usually F2. Change the SATA Hard Drive mode from AHCI to IDE or Compatibility Mode. Boot off of the XP CD and choose to Delete the Partition, Create a New Partition, and Format the partition NTFS, do not do a Quick Format, this will take longer but will test the integrity of the drive.) Install Windows.

Has anyone tried installing a PNY NVS 810 graphics card in a ThinkCentre M800? When I put it in, I can see the BIOS screen (and can go into BIOS and change settings), but after that the computer seems to freeze. Screen is blank and no disk activity. I have tried putting the card in another computer and it booted fine. Also, I replaced the power supply with a 520w unit. No change. Waiting to hear back from either Lenovo or PNY support.

Hi all, I am in need of installing a second disk drive for my ThinkCentre E53 10AS. I read the manual, which has instructions on replacing the disk drive - it does mention that in order to install a second disk drive, to follow these same instructions! Of course, it would not be an identical process. For example, there are 3 SATA plugs on the mother board, SATA1, SATA2 (both red), and SATA3 (yellow). SATA1 is plugged into the HDD.

There is a box connected to the power button, that has two buttons on the back. SATA power and SATA data. The SATA power is connected to the HDD and the motherboard via a 4-wire cable. The SATA data is connected to the HDD via a ribbon SATA cable.

So, if I want to install a second HDD, do I use a SATA plug to connect it to the yellow SATA 3 plug?

Does the fact that the plug is yellow mean anything?

And finally, I have looked everywhere, but cannot figure out what the max HDD capacity would be for a secondary drive? I bought a WD Red 3TB. Hopeful it works?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

A:ThinkCentre (E53): need to install as secondary hard disk drive

According to the hardware maintenance manual for the E73, the two motherboard SATA connectors (which you say are red) are SATA3 which supports 6GB/s.  The third one (which you say is yellow) is SATA2 which supports 3GB/s.

Sinc you've bought a SATA3 drive, you should use the second red SATA3 connector to get maximum performance out of it.  Be sure you use a SATA3 data cable and not a SATA2 data cable, as that's part of the requirement to get SATA3 performance.

As far as drive capacity goes, there's no hardware limit pertaining to your E73.  However there IS a consideration depending on the fact that your drive is larger than 2TB.  In order for a new drive to be usable, it must be "partitioned" and "formatted with a file system".  And in order to use a drive larger than 2TB the partitioning technique must be GPT, and not MBR.

You can partition the new drive to have one or more partitions, but if you mistakenly use MBR as the partitioning technique only 2TB of the drive will be visible and usable for partitions.  And there will be a maximum of four "primary" partitions (or a maximum of three "primary" partitions and any number of "logical" partitions).  The extra 1TB of your new 3TB drive will be invisible and unusable.  And the largest MBR partition is also limited to 2TB.

In contrast, if you partition the drive using GPT (which is the modern partitioning method that is recommended), this method supports drives... Read more

Hi!
I've just received a M710T (product code 10M9000CIX - i7-7700 + m.2 ssd + 8gb ddr4) which comes with a 180W PSU.
I'm from Italy so it was difficult to find the US version with 210W PSU, I see that the US version had it http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkCentre/ThinkCentre_M710_Tower

I was looking to buy the 210W as an aftermarket part but I cannot find the code / website where I can buy it.

The reason why I need this is because I've just buyed an Nvidia GT 1030 low profile which should consume about 25/30W.
Reading online I think that my PSU should hold up the load but I would like to power up my PSU for the future.

Another thing to consider is that Lenovo ships various M710T with 180W + NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB + 7200rpm HDD.
The power consumption of the GT 730 is similar to the 1030 and my machine have an m.2 ssd that should consume less than the HDD.

So the questions are:
- is there anyone with my machine (180w) who is using a dedicated gpu without a problem?
- how and where I can find the 210W online (shipping to eu/italy)?

Thank you!

As you wrote, systems with the 180w supply are available with the GT 730, which is similar in power to the GT 1030, so the 180w will power it no problem.  The reason this is possible, is that current generation processors use much less power than those from a few years ago, ie. 65w vs. 80 or 95w.

I am confident that there are some models with 210w available in Italy.  You could search the PSREF for system models ending in "IX", same as yours.   I imagine that in a couple of years you'll see good used 210w supplies on Ebay for reasonable prices.  The part number can be found in the parts list in the back of the HMM.  So that when you want to upgrade the GT 1030, you can do so.

I'm looking for help regarding my old mother's PC, a Lenovo M58 6303. Here are its caracteristics: https://imgur.com/a/KpR36ea
The PC is quite slow from time to time, with regular "no longer responding" frames when she wants to switch between Excel/Chrome tabs.
I saw that the processor but mostly the RAM are often high %, even with low activity (30% memory used when idle). The PC being mainly used for office application/web surfing, with some flash games/youtube for the grand children, I was thinking of adding a small SSD (max 120, in addition to the current HDD) with a little more RAM. The idea is basically how to improve it while spending as little as possible.

Regarding the RAM, the PC has 2 DDR3 modules of 2+1go. When I opened it,I saw 4 slots, 2 green, 2 blue. Based on what I found on Internet and Lenovo docs, I can upgrade it up to 8go - even though that much isn't necessary - with max 2go modules at 1066 mhz.Crucial websites suggests 4gb 1600 Udimm modules. Another website offers me instead PC3-8500 at 1066 mhz. If the PC only supports up to 1066 mhz, I guess there is basically no interest in buying 1600 (unless a future use on another PC ?) instead of 1066 mhz. However, I read on forums that, contrary to what Lenovo manual says, and based on "AKA Dodson sheet" sales book, the PC can actual... I am having more problems with my IBM thinkcentre motherboard.

If you saw my other post you know about the bad capacitor that I replaced. I just got around to testing it today, because I had to wait for my new SATA hard drive & SATA power to molex cable to ship. Everything worked fine for a few hours, but I'm having the same problem I did before. Apparently that wasn't the problem (although the capacitor did need to be replaced because it was bad).
The video signal gets all "scrambled" and there are purple lines on the screen, the computer freezes and I have to turn it off with the switch on the power supply.
I don't know if it's overheating or what. I opened it and it was cool. Can a bad processor cause this?

I recenly bought a M83 Desktop Small Form Factor (ThinkCentre) - Machine Type 10AJ. It comes with a 240watt Power supply. I would like to upgrade this to a 500 or 600watt power supply just to be safe when i add an aditionnal internal hard drive and Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti graphics card?

So I have a few questions about this PC I acquired recently, still being somewhat of a newbie to the building/modifying PC world. I have found the overview and the detailed specifications page on this PC, but for me, they are a bit hard to understand. What my ultimate goal is that i'll be able to make this into an XP Era gaming computer, have a lot of old PC games and I would like to play them. Yes I know its a bit silly to do when there's Steam and X amount of core processors available, but for nostalgia's sake, humor me. So specs first, then questions.Lenovo/IBM ThinkCentreM55(not sure if its a p, e, or whatever else there is)Model#: 8811FHUSerial#: LKHZFV3Motherboard: LENOVO LGA775Socket 775 LGAProcessor: Intel Pentium D 925 3.0 GHzRam: 2GBios Version: LENOVO 2JKT35AUS 4/30/07OS: Windows 7 Ult 32-bit So here are my questions,- Is the mobo 64 bit compatible or is it up to the cpu? (I plan on putting XP 64 bit if so)- What is the max amount, max speed the mobo can handle? (And if I put higher speed ram in would it be beneficial or would it just clock it down to whatever it needed)- Is is possible to upgrade the cpu at all and if so what are some of my options? (say to a 945 Pentium D 3.0 GHz or anything better?)- How does the whole mobo controls cpu choice/ cpu dictates ram speed/ ram limited to mobo or however it goes work anyways?- Best or any graphics cards that still support XP out there? (more than 256MB, and dual monitor setup possible?)- I... Read more
