Q: Support.Dell.com not detecting drivers on my desktop correctly

I ran the detect software to detect my current drivers. Every time I run this, it gives me recommendations for drivers that are OLDER than what I have installed. It keeps recommending the following:

Preferred Solution: Support.Dell.com not detecting drivers on my desktop correctly

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, no matter how many times I follow SupportAssist's recommendation to install:
Docks/Stands Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver
Chipset - Intel Serial IO Driver
Chipset - Intel Management Engine Interface Driver
and then reboot, it keeps telling me I need those drivers.
It did download and install a new Intel Video driver which hasn't reappeared.
Laptop: Brand new XPS 15 QHD display, windows 10.  TIA
PS why the ridiculous number of "I am not a robot" Captcha pictures and puzzles !!! :-)

A:XPS 15 - Dell Support Assist keeps installing the same drivers over and over

then i would uninstall the dell support assit. and manually download and install the drivers your self, you don't have to use Dell's support Assit.

(Please pardon my redundancy - I have posted this to the Customer Care Board and Client Service forums - just hoping to correct what I hope was an accidental change in support policy.)
This is not a technical comment but it is a comment about Dell's Technology Support. Recently the support site for laptops, and I presume other areas though I have not checked, was revised to change its structure. In the process many items were removed notably having to do with drivers for older systems. Even if a system is past warranty that does not remove the responsibility for Dell to continue to provide the most recent (even if old) drivers especially since the cost of doing so is trivial. This is especially the case when Dell is the only source for specific drivers. A specific example is a Dell Vostro 3700 laptop which uses the embedded GPU in the CPU as well as outboard nVidia GPU; the hybrid video architecture is such that NVidia provides no driver and re-directs users to Dell's site. In the case of this specific model, most of the drivers that were present a month ago are now gone.
Dell laptops have two things going for them - good products at a good price and a great support site. This has prompted me to continue focusing upon Dell - e.g. two new 5759's in 2017, and to recommend Dell to colleagues and friends. I have had recent occasion to review some very old systems on HP's support site - all relevant drivers continue to be available. I strongly recommend that Dell c... Read more

I have a 6 1/2 year old dell xps 600 desktop that still serves my purposes well enough. However, i want to retire it's 19" non-widescreen Ultrasharp monitor in favor of a brand new Dell Ultrasharp, either a 23" or 24". Will my computer support the full resolution, or will I have any unforeseen issues? I don't want the graphics on my screen to be reduced in resolution and thus everything appear larger than they should, that would really defeat the purpose of upgrading. BTW, I am only a light to occasionally moderate gamer, but I do indulge from time to time...mostly, I just surf the web to be honest.

here's my configuration:

Dell XPS600 desktop
Dual core 3.0
2 megs ram
Nvidia GeForce 6800 256 mb graphics card

Anything else? Well, should I pull the trigger on the order or am I missing any special considerations, including ones I forgot to ask about?

Hey everyone, hopefully I got the right forum/board. Got an odd one here that hopefully someone might be able to shed some light on. Have recently received a number of HP prodesk 600 G2 desktops (i3 6100, 4gb etc.). They only come with basic mechanical hdds so was hoping to change to some SSDs we have hanging around here. They're liteon LCT-128M3S drives. They're from lenovo laptops originally and we have a large number. Thing is, when I try using them in the desktops, they're detected by the bios, they pass the hard disk check but they only appear in the uefi boot list and not the legacy boot order. The bios on these machines is locked down so tight there's no options to change anything but the order. I can deploy an image to it from altiris or install an OS to it manually but it will not boot to it as it doesn't appear in the legacy boot order at all. Trying to boot to the disk on uefi results in an HP OS not found error as well I thought there must be something wrong with the config but I tried a toshiba 128gb SSD (nearly the same lenovo part number as the liteon) and it works perfectly. The toshiba drive appears in the legacy boot order and the desktop has no issues booting it! I've tried updating the bios, updating the firmware on these drives and no dice. I tried turning off sata and pcie power saving in the bios, I've tried all the different secure boot options as well as restoring bios top defaults etc. I know it seems like I should just get differ... Hi,

We had a burglary over the weekend and the monitor was stolen. We purchased a new one and installed it. (By the way this monitor is the same make but a different model from the one stolen.) Upon booting up we can only get a resolution of 1024X768 instead on the resolution I was using before, 1280x800. The monitor is capable and works on other machines running XP. I have tried another monitor the same as this and that is exactly the same but a NEC monitor will correctly detect and work at higher resolutions.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys,

I've recently run into a problem with Windows 7.

As you can see, it isn't detecting my screen size correctly, which is weird to say the least since I've had no problems like this for some time. Please be advised that I am running a dual monitor setup, and that the problem only occurs on my secondary monitor (Acer 20"). However when I switched my display settings so that my Acer was the main monitor, the problem was still present. If you guys want anymore pictures, please advise me of so, and It will be done. As I feel adding pictures may help people who experience the same problem in the future.

Sincerely,
Missionman

Update
Although updating the drivers did fix the problem, I found the source of the problem later on. FIFA 10 would resize my screen after each time I played the game. This is because FIFA 10 does not have the video resolution that is precisely the same as my 2 monitor setup. For this reason it would resize my screen to slightly wider than what my biggest screen is (FIFA 10 would resize to 1400 while my screen is only 1360).

To fix this everytime I finish playing FIFA 10 I simply right click on the ATI icon in my taskbar and reset the resolution. This fixes the problem. Here, as promised is a picture of my screen that shows how to fix the problem.

Thanks goes out to notsograymatter again for the help on the issue

Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card installed?

And if so, why aren't you using the gfx card's software to adjust those settings?

Here are the drivers for:

ATI Radeon HD 5xxx series PCIe - Win7 x64

Download the driver and catalyst control center, that should allow you to change your desktop size, resolution, manage multiple monitors and all that.

If you did a clean install, did you install the chipset driver first? Without the chipset, some other drivers won't install or won't work.
And depending on the version of Windows, and if this was a clean install, did you install the Desktop System Software immediately after installing Windows, and ahead of the chipset driver?

So I have a Dell SmartPC200D that needs a complete wipe to remove the malware infesting the hdd. Thing is, I can't locate the drivers for the thing online. Where to go next?
The closest thing I can find on Dell's site is '150D' and '300D' drivers, but who's to know what could go wrong by using the wrong set of system drivers... It's worth noting the system was purchased in China; therefore Dell USA (English!) doesn't offer tech. support in any form. According to them help is just a toll phone call away to Kuala Lampur. Hello there @tosime, Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you are looking for soem help with the HP Support Assistant. I am happy to help with this. The HP Support assistant is a program that is constantly evolving as new functionality is added. There are going to be products that is currently does not cover, mostly older ones, and likely very new ones as well, if the application has not been updated.  All I can recommend is that you maybe try a clean installation of the HP Support AssistantHP PCs - Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 10, 8, 7)HP PCs - Troubleshooting HP Support Assistant (Windows 10, 8) Other than that try to keep it up to date. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. HP Support are completely useless. They send me to support who can't speak English, refer me to the proper HP "UK" Support who still don't understand me, raise my case, and then tell me the below. I have a HP Z Display Z30i still in warranty. The display has a small crack however it is still usable and only a small portion of the display is affected. Recently the monitor has stopped detecting inputs whatsoever - no VGA, no displayPort, no HDMI, etc etc. This looks to be a mainboard or input board problem, however HP tell me they can't repair it as the sreen has a small crack in it. This crack is unrelated to the input problem, however they refuse to repair the input problem, telling me "a cracked or damaged screen means no warranty". This is ridiculous and I'm never ever going to buy HP again. Not the new EliteBook I was considering, not a new HP printer, nothing, due to the shockingly poor customer service. I want this resolved ASAP and either a new input board 1) sent to me with instructions for installation 2) monitor collected and input problem repaired by them or 3) a replacement monitor. I understand the cracked screen is my problem however the input board certainly isn't nor is it related to the crack. It should be covered in warranty. Thanks HP for making a 800 display a useless piece of junk and refusing to honour my warranty.

I went to burn a DVD yesterday, and I was quite frustrated to find that every time I clicked the option to start the burn, an error popped up saying that there was no CD recordable drives detected. Now I tried Microsoft's tutorial on setting the registry files to properly connect my device ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316529/EN-US/) , but the files they started to talk about in steps 6 and beyond, weren't showing up in mine.

I have a brand new Toshiba laptop with MCE 2005, and the driver it came with for the writing/reading capabilities is a Matshita UJ-8 driver, and is supposedly capable of reading, writing, and formatting discs of all types.

I also have tried listening to music cds, and that doesn't work either. If anyone knows what's going on, I'd appreciate it. Thanks-

Hello,

I recently installed windows Xp next to my Windows Vista. I plan to use XP for gaming. So anyways, I got everything to work, I got dual boot working. The only big problem I have is that XP doesn't seem to detect any drivers. I tried to manually install some. I succeeded on installing my Nvidia video card driver, was quite easy because it was just .exe.

First of all, I have no sound and internet. So my priority is to get the network card driver to work first, so I don't have to switch from XP to Vista over and over just to go to the internet.

This is what I tried: I went to the website of my computer brand (http://ts.fujitsu.com/support/downloads.html), I selected my computer (AMILO Desktop Pi 3630)
Then I get a list like this: Flash - Bios, Audio, Chipset, Graphic, Home PC, LAN, WLAN, and Other.
I clicked LAN, and downloaded the driver it said (LAN nForce Realtek RTL8211 (Onboard on MB MS-7504PV, ?ATX, V 1.1, Socket 775) )
I put that on my external harddrive, rebooted my computer, went to XP, I went to Device Manager, rightclicked on what looked the most like a network card (it was something with Ethernet).
What you should know: There were around 4-5 devices with an exclamation mark next to it
I went through the wizard, browsed to my external HD, clicked the .ini file (from the driver I downloaded), it said it was installing some files. It looked good, until it finished, it gave me this error: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot l... Read more

A:XP not detecting any drivers

Welcome to TSF!

All of the drivers at that site are for Vista. Doesn't look like they support XP on that system. Only thing they show for XP is System Diagnostics

You'll need to identify the hardware, either from the website or while booted to Vista and then see if you can track down drivers for it from the different manufacturers web sites.

For instance the Ethernet (LAN) is a nForce Realtek RTL8211. The nForce means it's part of the Nvidia chipset, and Realtek won't have drivers for it. So you'll need to go to Nvidia's web site.

I believe this is the driver for your chipset (and LAN/SATA)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp_15.26.html

You can try www.driverguide.com to search for the Audio driver (alc azalia 888s), or search Google.

I'm doing a fresh install on my Alienware m17x, with a copy of Win7 Ultimate that came with the laptop. Nothing was wrong with it previously, but it's been a while and things are getting choppy.

I'm installing this on RAID, and I keep getting this error "Windows Setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware". This occured AFTER the installation which also ended with an error, "setup could not configure Windows", or something along those lines.

After some research, I realized I needed the RAID drivers installed before the Win7 installation, since my bios is currently set to RAID.

The problem is, my laptop isn't detecting the USB which I have the driver.exe on, when I select the load device/driver option thingy before the installation process begins.

Here is the source of the RAID, I think that's the right driver but do correct me if I'm wrong. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...ology&lang=eng

Hello,
I have just done a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit of my Dell Inspiron N4110.
I went straight to Dell's Drivers and Downloads online and found my laptop model, and Windows version and proceeded to download the drivers that I thought I needed.
I am downloading from another computer, putting on a USB, and installing from that USB to my Inspiron N4110. I double click the Application I downloaded. What happens is that I receive a message saying that I "successfully unzipped" the files. It doesn't seem like the driver actually installed, and I can't quite figure out how to install the downloaded drivers I got from the Dell website.
Am I downloading the wrong drivers? Or am I supposed to be installing a different way?
Also, can someone point me to which exact drivers I need to download for my laptop model? There seem to be multiple drivers under each category. The link is here:

I don't know what to do, I know they are the correct drivers since I used the detection tool from HP.

A:Drivers not installing correctly

Hello Lonegeek mate just a little something I do when stuck like that is to download the drivers to a stick and then onto the machine you want them on. You need access to another machine of course to access the machines support site but thats a quick way.

By the by some systems specs would help mate
System Info - See Your System Specs if we had them we could link the site for drivers for you.

I am completely stumped with this one and have tried just about everything.

First of all, I'm running windows 7

My rig is using a Geforce GTX 570, which I run dual monitors out of.

My main monitor is an Acer AL2616W, and my secondary is a Westinghouse L2210NW. Both monitors are DVI. I've had this set up for 2 years with no issues.

Two nights ago I shut my computer off as normal, turn it on the next day and the Acer is not detected and has no signal. There were no updates or changes to the computer. It just, apparently, stopped working.

Neither the nvidia control panel or the windows display control panel could detect my main monitor. The monitor also disappeared from the device manager.

I tried unplugging the monitor, flipping it off and on, switching the ports, switching the cables - nothing changes the situation. So you would think it would be the monitor, however, the main monitor still works when going through the boot screens with first powering on my computer. It isn't until the windows welcome screen that it shuts off and starts working exclusively on my Westinghouse.

I think it could be a driver issue, but I'm stumped. If I disable the nvidia driver so the display works through the basic motherboard display, the Acer starts to work. Of course since it's not using the GPU drivers, the resolution is super low, and no duel monitors. But the point is, the Acer works when the nvidia drivers are disabled. I have tried updating the drivers, r... Read more

Hello
I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600.  The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error
"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."
My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??
So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?
thanks for any help, david

PC: Dell Inspiron 15 3542
OS: Windows 8.1
Problem:  I am unable to download drivers from the dell support website
Dell System Detect has been successfully installed on my PC.  It's icon is present in the system tray.  Inspite of this I am repeatedly getting the message that I need to download and re-install the Dell System Detect software.  No matter how many times I install it as the administrator, I get the same message.  I am unable to accomplish anything on the Dell Support Website.
I have looked for a problem with the software on my laptop.  Sfc scans do not detect any problems with missing or corrupt windows software.  What else can I do to correct this frustrating glitch?

I am very concerned. My laptop is consistently taking forever to start and/or freezing. Is it possible to uninstall anything dell related? Or how do I fix it? I created a system report from the system information module if that would be helpful I can send it. The event log keeps complaining about the Dell applications listed below as reasons it is failing:

I am no expert here, but it looks like the Update service is looking for a Recovery partition which may hold the WinRE tools.  On my current system, that would be partition 4 but it could be different on yours.  Running the command below in an administrative command prompt should show what partition is configured for the Tools.
reagentc /info
Have you made any changes to your drive configuration?  The reagentc info should show the same partition the Update Utility is looking for.

Dell Support "Assist" just ran without giving me an option to stop, pause, or control in anyway.  It was using nearly all computer resources (I could barely save the word document I had open at the time).  This isn't "assist" more like computer take over.

How can I control the S. "Assist"?  How can I adjust the time between it's runs (currently it looks like monthly)?  After finishing it's scan or whatever it finally closed (cuz it wouldn't close the 20 times or so I clicked the "X").  I then opened it, looking for some results of the scan, and found none.  How can I view results?

Right now, seems like worthless bloatware.

Also, there is not a [New Post] button on the Laptop Forum (at least for me).

I got a DELL Inspiron 7559 in July 2017. The rear left corner is already pulling a part at the seam. It doesn't seem to be the hinge, but it does pull further a part when opening and closing the screen.
I called DELL support. Even though the computer is only 5 months old, this problem isn't covered under warranty.
Online, it looks like several other 7559 buyers have experienced the exact same problem. It seems unethical of DELL to have a recurring manufacturing problem and refuse to repair it.
Any suggestions on options to get the split repaired without spending $140?
