T440S won't hibernate with USB 3.0

Q: T440S won't hibernate with USB 3.0

Hello,On my T440S, since BIOS v2.37.1.13 (with little hope that v2.39 would fix it, I installed it to no avail), I can no longer enter hibernation. When I try to do so, the red LED blinks multiple times and then the computer immediately wakes up. The event viewer only shows:The system has returned from a low power state.Wake Source: UnknownThe workaround is to either unplug all usb devices, or disable USB 3.0 support in the BIOS, which sucks for a 1000e + laptop.Otherwise, the computer enters a sleep-hibernate-wake up loop which is draining the battery. When do you plan on releasing an update (BIOS or USB 3.0 driver) to fix this hibernation issue?Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi

My computer can only hibernate once, after that, if it has already hibernated once before during the session, it goes into a strange state where the power is never turned off, but I can't return to windows.

I have this issue. I have the hibernate button and the computer does never go automaticaly to hibernate state.
Powersettings network card are off:
My first hibernate shuts down fast, starts up after first hibernate is fast en everything works ok. Then I do a next hibernate and the computer does not shut down any more. I have to reset the computer and windows comes with the Safe Mode startup screen, where I select "Startup windows normaly", after that everything is working ok again.

What can I do, so I can do multiple hibernate's after each other, without a reboot?
Does anybody has a sollution for this? Thanks in advance.

Chillie

After checking how slow my computer was running, shutting down and taking a nap I decided to shutdown Hibernate and save the time and HD space for other things.

Hibernate file is a large file that is build on startup in your root directory of C:
It seems to store information so if your computer goes to sleep automatically stores the information and suppose to help on startup coming out of sleep mode.
I think it is default on for all installs.

Do you have it ON or OFF?

A:Hibernate or NOT TO Hibernate that is the question

on. hard drives are big enough now that i don't need to worry about massive files taking up precious space anymore. Mainly use sleep though, its alot better in 7 than in previous versions.

I just installed a MYDIGITALSSD Super Boot 2 42mm SATA III 2242 M.2 SSD 256-GB in my T440S. The laptop does not recognize a second drive. I can't find the drive to format and use. Does anyone have an idea why that would be? Did I miss something? Thanks!

For some reason the title changed, I did not type that in. I updated the title. Also, I removed the SSD from the M.2 slot because all of a sudden I lost my track pad. It would not work at all. I could not even access the BIOS. I removed it and everything went back to normal. No idea what could be going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Users, Since a few moments I am a (happy) owner of Lenovo?s new and business class model T440s. As I could find out, Lenovo is building in two different displays. On the one hand there are several model with aLG-DisplayModel: LP140WF1 (sp)(k1)P/N: 0C00349FRU: 04X0626 And the other from AUOModel: AUO B140HAN01.2FRU: 04X0436 (You can look up your displaymodel via BIOS, Everest or any related program) As far as I could find out in the world wide web there are several users reporting with a LG Display in their T440s that it is in quality inferior to the AUO Display. It seems that Lenovo is ready to replace the LG with an AUO display, sending out a tech. My question is what your experiences are and what can we, the owner of a  LG-Display, do?Is there a real quality gap between these two types of Display? My T440s, as i mentioned, has a LG Display. I can live with this one, if there are no great difference in the quality to the AUO Display. I am excited about your opinions. Thanks Fire

A:T440s - LG or AUO Display

Don't sweat it. Both are absolutey huge upgrades over the TN panel. While the AUO is a bit better, its not worth the trouble. I have both and I like both. I did a compare on the same thread u heard about the issue.

So I'm having trouble with my wifi card on my t440s.I began by putting the windows 7 x86 hard drive in the laptop from my x220, the wifi didn't work so I uninstalled the old drivers and replaced the drivers with the recommended t440s drivers on this site. The wireless worked, I then installed all the stuff lenovo bridge suggested, the start bar stuff annoyed me so I took it out. From then on no operating system, or drivers I have installed, have been able to find the hardware for the Wifi drivers. The bluetooth is working and I have tried using the bios to make sure the wifi function key isn't broken.I have also tried installing windows 7 x64, which is what im working with now, to try and find the hardware. When I go into network adapters, its literally just not there.

A:VERY DIM SCREEN ON T440S

Make sure drivers are updated and not using a generic VGA driver. This would make the dock not work and not be able to adjust screen brightness. If it is to the point where you can hardly see it at all then it most likely is a bad screen.

Apologies if this question has been previously answered.  I searched and couldn't find a response.   I'm still using the original HDD that came with the laptop.  I'm thinking of upgrading to an SSD and cloning the HDD to the SSD.  My question is what to do, if anything, with the, M.2 16gb cache that came with the laptop.  Should this drive be left alone as is in the laptop after the HDD to SSD upgrade?  Should it be removed?  Should anything be done to the M.2 drive if I upgrade the HDD?  My understanding is it currently speeds up the computer at start-up and with an SSD, this wouldn't be all that necessary.   I appreciate everyone's time.  Thank you.   -Rich

Hi, I've run into a problem recently where I will hibernate (either by closing the lid or hitting the hibernate button) and the system will begin to hibernate (the blue screen comes up), however, almost immediately goes back to being on. I've noticed that after it comes up, things that connect to the internet have had their connection broken.

A few days ago (before this started happening) I was infected with the Windows XP Internet Security 2010 virus. I removed it with the Malware scan. It looks like it's gone, but I was wondering if maybe this had something to do with it?

Any help would be appreciated!

This is probably a simple problem, but I can't figure it out. Device: T440s running Windows 10 Pro Problem(s): If I unplug it from the power adapter, re-plugging it has the following effects--it does not recognize that it is plugged in, and the red light over the 'i' on the lid repeatedly flashes a fast sequence of four short flashes followed by a brief pause. It does this until the battery drains and then it shuts down. Adding some further confusion: It will not shut down or restart when plugged in. It will sit on the blue, "Shutting Down" or "Restarting Windows" page for as long as I leave it. I have to force it to shut down by holding down the power button until it turns off. And yet further confusion: If, while it is turned off, I disconnect the external battery and plug in the adapter, I get the standard three flashes to indicate that it's charging. I can then reconnect the external battery, and it charges like normal though the light gives me an occasional double-flash as it charges and the charger gets hotter than normal. So, I'm not sure if this is a bad adapter, battery, motherboard, or something else entirely. I'd like to fix it before my Macbook wielding colleagues catch on and give me grief. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out if I have a unique problem, or whether this is a broader T440s problem. Occasionally, especially when my T440s has gone to hibernation from sleep, I cannot turn on the computer unless I plug it into the wall. That is to say, when I hit the power button when the computer is unplugged, NOTHING happens. I've tried holding the power button down, pressing it repeatedly, removing the external battery and then pressing the startup button, etc.  If I plug the computer into the wall, it starts up fine and shows that there is sufficient battery life. This does not happen consistently, and is difficult to repeat. For example, the computer went into sleep the night before traveling. I tried to start it on a plane flight (domestic, thank god, so it wasn't a huge issue, but if it had been international that would have been a disaster) and it simply would not start. Later, on a train, I was able to plug it in and it started with no problems and showed plenty of battery life. I then put it into sleep, it went into hibernate, and I was able to start it up without being plugged into the wall when I returned home. Has anyone else encountered something similar? Are there settings I can change, or should I have it sent in for repair (also, what on earth might cause this problem? Faulty power button?)

This is what happened to my T420.  Just about drove me nuts.  Since it would start in one power mode but not the other that proved that it couldn't be the button, right?  Another mod with more sense suggested replacing the keyboard anyway.

It was the power button.  On careful visual inspection I could see that it was slightly depressed from normal.  Either partly shorted or high resistance.  Plugging in the AC mains must have changed the voltages just enough for it to work.  Sometimes, anyway.

Not saying this weird problem is what you're seeing - but it might be.

Good luck,
Z.

I have an issue with my new T440s, Win8.1 Pro fully up to date with the latest Synaptics 18.0.7.40 driver from the Lenovo update. I am using a freshly installed copy of Windows rather than the provided image. Sometimes when working with the touchpad and clicking the pad down to drag something, it's as if ClickLock has been turned on from the mouse control panel settings, where it acts like the mouse button is held down until you click (not tap) it to release it again. ClickLock is turned off in the control panel. I found that the issue is greatly reduced (but not gone) if I turn momentum all the way down under Advanced -> Motion. This is driving me nuts as it's seemingly random. If I click and drag to select text then go to move the cursor, sometimes it acts like the mouse button is still held down and I change my selection. Or, sometimes I just want to move my cursor and it ends up dragging something or selecting text. Anybody else experiencing this? Lenovo please can you sort this out. I find myself using the touchscreen more and more as it's simply more reliable than the trackpad!

A:T440s Trackpad - ClickLock bug

Still experiencing this, but not heard anyone else mention it?About 25% of the time when I drag to select text by pressing down the pad, it still acts as if the button is held down after I let go and I have to click it down again. The fact it is so unpredictable is so frustrating, I end up having to double tap the pad to start a drag motion instead.

I am trying to add a 4Gb SODIMM to a Lenovo T440s (model 20AQ0062MS with 4 Gb soldered on the motherboard). The RAM is Lenovo part number 0B47380 and should according to http://www.lenovoquickpick.com/deu/accessory/0B47380/lenovo-4gb-ddr3l-1600-pc3-12800-sodimm-memory be suitable for the T440s. I specifically checked that it is 1,35V DDR3L, and I've also tested the same module in another computer, verifying that the module itself works. This computer (BIOS and all firmware versions newest available per System Update) will not detect the added RAM at all, it just continues to report the built-in 4096 Gb as before, and does not give any POST errors. Hardware diagnostics do not report any failures in any of the components, but tests only the same 4 Gb when doing the memory test. A complete hardware reset (removal of all batteries including clock backup) did not change things at all. What am I doing wrong? This is the first time ever I encounter this problem with a ThinkPad, since I started working with the original ThinkPad 700 and 700C back in the early nineties (I used to work at IBM Helpware and OS/2 Hotline 1992-95) . Hi Dsc,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Undocking a portable computer while it is in either standby mode or hibernate mode can result in data loss and system instability. To avoid loss or damage, use Undock to undock your computer, or shut down the system and undock the portable computer while your system is off.

How exactly are you undocking the computer? Are you undocking the computer using undock option?

Also, please update the latest BIOS.

I can barely see what's going on on the scree. It is happening in the OS (windows 8.1) but also while i am in the bios. What i already did : - Update drivers for both graphic cards- remove all adaptative screen option (in windows 8.1 but also at the intel driver level). However as it is also happening on the BIOS, i've investigating an hardware issue : - Emergency reset button- I have plug and unplug/reseat the LCD cables (both cable on the motherboard end) - I have plug and unplug the internal battery to see if it could come from a misconnection or something Nothing has solved the issue and the screen continues to go black  Does someone is experiencing the same and has already had an answer from lenovo ?  Laptop is : t440s with touch screen

Hi there, I have the same issue with my T440s (non-touch). I have replaced the LCD panel but still the same. Any update regarding your issue? Thanks,Keith

Hi,I have a T440s with touch display under Windows 10 pro. on initial start of the computer, touchpad and trackpoint usually work well, but after a couple of minutes the cursor just disappears and touchpad and trackpoint dont work anymore, the only way to navigate then is the touchscreen. I already updated the driver and made a bios update, both didnt help. Has anyone a good idea on that issue. Cheers, Jakob

Latest BIOS updated 2.47 caused me a problem: I can not edit BIOS settings anymore.I did have BIOS settings password set. Now if I enter BIOS settings it no longer asks for a password. Instead screen flashes couple of times and then it shows BIOS screen, but all options are grey, not editable!! I have not found any way to enter password. One option that came to my mind is to remove BIOS backup battery. But I am not sure if it helps here. Any suggestions what to do?!

We are beta testing this laptop for our company and seem to have a number of issues with this laptop. One issue we get says, ?Close programs to prevent information loss" although only a few light applications are open.  We ran Lenovo Diagnostics tool (everything was clean). We installed RAM on our own, which we purchased from this link http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-12800-SODIMM-204-Pin-CT2K8G3S160BM/dp/B008LTBJFW/ref=cm_cr_pr_prod... The laptop has a built in 4GB stick of RAM. The brand is Micron. Where as our 8GB stick is Crucial. Does anyone have any idea whats going on?

Hi,firstly let me explain that Micron and Crucial are one company. Micron is selling stuff to enterprise, while Crucial is selling products to smaler customers. Anyway in your case it seems, you've bought some kind of "Apple" version of DDR3L. Maybe the problem is there? Unfortunately I'm not aware if there is any difference between memory for Mac and PC. Can you see 12 GB available in Windows? in BIOS? in AIDA64? Easiest solution seems to be to go to the nearest PC shop and try different memory there...
