Outlook will not launch

Q: Outlook will not launch

When launching my Outlook this morning - it came up and then immediately closed. The error message said something about the qurb.outlook add-in needing to be disabled. I've never had this problem before and don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!

Preferred Solution: Outlook will not launch

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Outlook will not launch

Qurb is a third-party anti-spam program. Try going to Start > Programs > Qurb > Disable Qurb

If it's not listed in Programs, try the following:

In Outlook go to Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager

Look for a "Qurb" entry here and uncheck it. Ok out of Options and restart Outlook.

Hi folks! I'm new here, so please forgive me if I commit a faux pas on forum etiquette.

But, here's the problem:

I recently uninstalled Norton Anti-Virus and installed AVG.

Now, when I try to open Outlook, it won't launch. It hangs and I get this error message:

"Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

It closes and when I click on it again it asks if I want to open it in SAFE MODE instead. I click Yes and it gives me the same error message again.

I try to open it again and it gives me an error messages stating:

"Outlook failed to launch in safe mode. Would you like to start 'Detect and Repair?"

I click Yes and it goes through the steps (I have the office set-up file on my hard-drive) and once it's done, I try to launch Outlook again and it does the same exact thing again (see above).

I've tried everything!

I've uninstalled both AVG and Norton to no effect.

I've tried to reboot in safe mode and it still does the same thing (I can't even launch it in Safe-Safe-Mode!)

I've upgraded my outlook 2002 to 2003 and downloaded all the most recent updates.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003...same thing happens.

I've run a scan of my .psi file to make sure it wasn't corrupted.

I've uninstalled AVG anti-spyware...nothing.

You can start by downloading, installing then running this http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download, and this http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ After you have cleaned your sysstem of any and all hostile invaders you can try relaunching OE. If the above does not solve your problem try removing and reinstalling. Good luck!

I posted this thread by accident somewhere else, so apologies for the redundancies if caught.

In any event, the weirdest thing. I was working on my Dell running Win7 and Office 2007, doing business as usual and I decided to reboot because I hadn't in a while. After doing so, I went to launch Outlook again to check my email and it wouldn't open. The Outlook window would begin to appear and then a message window would pop up (see pic below) and Outlook wouldn't open.

I tried rebooting again and using both the Quick Launch icon and the shortcut on my Desktop, but no luck.

Can anyone help? I would rather than not have to reinstall Windows.

I have an email address with my ISP. When I lauch Outlook Express it defaults to my main identity. I have Internet Explorer 5 and I have Windows 4 NT. My wife was clever and set up a second identity for her hotmail email in the Outlook Express box. (which I recently found out she should not have done.) It was working fine for a couple of weeks. Then it got locked up when I switched from Main Identity to Her Identity. I rebooted and now whenever I lauch Outlook Express (either from the start menu or from the shortcut) I get an hourglass to tell me something is starting to work and then it does nothing....

Help! I am locked out of my email.
I had to use my wife's email address just to post this question.

Internet Explorer and Outlook Express won't launch from either the Start menu, the All Programmes menu or the quick launch toolbar. The internet connection is fine, it's just that the programmes don't start (the hourglass is briefly on show, then stops).

I run XP Home (Service Pack 2) on an Intel Pentium (R) 4 (CPU 2,53).

I've recently been battling (for the first time in ages) with a lot of viruses, though don't know if that's connected. So I thought I'd ask XP support first in case there's something simple that I'm missing.

My PC has been struggling for speed for months - and in efforts to speed it up have used CCleaner recently and weeded out the Local Settings/Temp files.

My normal anti-virus software is McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0. To help identify and fight some viruses that weren't being picked up by McAfee, I installed free versions of Security Task Manager, SpyProtector and, most recently BitDefender v10.

Any help much appreciated (have been able to sign up with techsupport through webmail on wireless laptop).

Outlook tries to launch and a box opens to notify Microsoft of the error then Outlook shuts down (it does not tell me what the error is or the number of the error). I have called Intuit multiple times and they have not helped.

I uninstalled TurbTax and Outlook works fine. I have tried this twice, The person at Intuit said that I should open another User account on my PC and load TurboTax in the separate account. I tried this and TurboTax loads in both User accounts stops Outlook.

I am running Windows XP with Firefox as my explorer. I noticed on my "programs" listing that MS .Net 1.1 and 1.0 are loaded.

YAY - I'm here again which means that I have some issues that I can't figure out myself...not cool..anyhow, this time it's Outlook that's being an *** (as always), it fails to launch and gives me the error message that can be seen in attached file. The worst thing is that this is totally random even tho mostly I have to restart my work machine before I even get a shot at starting Outlook again after this error..
As I said, the error is random and "fixes itself" after a while...and that "while" can be over an hour long... This is on my laptop at work and our support only says that it's the .pst files that aren't closed correctly however I still get the error when I don't use any pst archives...I also tried to create a new mail profile but that doesn't help either...I even managed to get the same error when I was creating a new mail profile...

So any ideas and suggestions on this?

This symptom has been bothering me for a while and I can't seem to find a permanent solution to it.

In our company's domain, where we have pretty stringent standardization on everything, our users seem hit or miss whether or not they'll get an Outlook logon prompt when they launch Outlook. This account information is always just their Windows domain logon.

The profiles are set up with a straight exchange server address, there is never any saved passwords in the users profile. And it is never a case where they are not synchronized with the domain. There also doesn't seem to be any common denominator in terms of desktops vs laptops or using a cached profile or not.

Something is interfering with the pass-thru authentication. We keep Windows firewall disabled via GPO as well. Our Outlook installs are completely generic, no add-ins or forms or templates.

I have tried the usual list of troubleshooting steps, re-created the email profiles, deleted OST files, ran an Outlook repair, turned off/on cached mode.

No matter what, it just seems like a roll of the dice whether a user gets the logon prompt or not, except that if they do get the prompt, then they always get the prompt upon the launching of Outlook. Most people don't, but about 20% of our users have this "plague".

Any idea's or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

MS Outlook 2003 (running WindowsXP3 Pro), will not fully launch. The program appears on my monitor, but says "2 items remain, loading dataset ... " and just sticks there forever and is "not responding" to any further activity.
I know that Outlook can become heavy and overloaded with data and then inoperative. What I don't know is the remedy for this issue. Is there a file(s) I can delete to slim it down so it will perform and function going forward? I have tried to repair with the original install CD, but that did not resolve this issue, even though at the end of its run, it claimed it had repaired Outlook for me.
Any suggestions as to what I can do on this issue? Your advice will be greatly appreciated. I lay awake thinking about all the hundreds of emails that must be sitting in line for download into my inbox or junk box once I get the program going again!
Can you help with this? Thanks if you can send some advice my way.

Hi - my first time so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can even log a question, never mind get an answer! Anyway, here goes:

I am running an Asus Eee PC 1.66ghz 1.99 gb RAMIntel Atom

Asus runs XP Home Edition V2002 Service pack 3

I loaded MS/Office 2007 Student edition: I de-selected Outlook Express as I didn't want/need it, but ever since then whenever I switch on the PC I get the following message: "Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the Outlook Express store. Your computer may be out of memory (it isn't!) or your disk is full (it isn't!)"

When I reply OK to this message I get a follow on message "To free up disk space Outlook Express can compact messages, this may take a few minutes". I respond OK to this and get a Windows message ?Windoes search system tray has encountered a problem and needs to close". After responding to this message the problem seems to clear and I can continue using the PC with no further messages or issues.

If anyone could help please to get rid of these irksome messages it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

At what point in the install did you de-select Outlook Express? Outlook Express is incorporated into the OS, and Microsoft Outlook does not come with MS/Office 2007 Student edition. Have you looked into the System Configuration Utility? In there you can chose which programs to start in the Start up tab.

I recently installed Office 2003 pro and when I try and open Outlook I get an error message that says;
"Can not start Office Outlook. mapi32.dll is corrupt or the wrong version. This could be caused by installing messaging software. Please re-install Outlook".

The fix in the KB was to rename the file to mapi32.old and then run the fixmapi.exe. utility.
When I click on that (fixmapi.exe) though it won't open.
Everything else works fine in the Office 2003 installation.
Just so you know I un-installed it and re-installed it just to be sure and it still happens.

A couple of days ago my Outlook XP (2002) began crashing on start-up (after generally launching and running normally before). I installed Office XP Service Pack 3 in hope that this update would fix the problem however it didn't.

On start-up, the following things occur:
1. The MS Outlook main window and introduction splash screen (i.e. large logo with user and product ID details, etc) is displayed as if Outlook is loading as normal
2. The main application window is white, i.e. with no actual program elements (folder list, preview pane, etc) displayed inside except the main toolbar ("File", "Edit", "View", etc).
3. After a short while (c.15-30 seconds) the application crashes and the "Restart Microsoft Outlook" and "Send Error Report" dialogue box is displayed. The Error Report contains the following error signature data:

AppName: Outlook.exe
AppVer: 10.0.6626.0
ModName: Outllib.dll
ModVer: 10.0.6515.0
Offset: 0002d704

Outlook also failed to launch in "Safe Mode" and also after I deleted my default Outlook.pst and Outlook-Hotmail.pst files (made copies first so I didn't lose the data).

I have spent the last couple of days trying to resolve this problem myself and checked several websites (including Microsoft) for any information that might help me but have found nothing.

I have had this software installed on my computer for over 1.5 years now and never had this issue. All of the sudden whenever I launch Acrobat Reader 8 Professional. I get the error message saying I must launch at least one other suite program before it will run. It comes up with this error... even though I'm already running Photoshop and Illustrator.

The only thing I can think of is that I just recently downloaded and installed Adobe AIR for TweetDeck. Does anyone know if this could cause the problem or how to fix it?

I can't run TweetDeck without the Adobe AIR????

i am using xp pro and i only display 3 icons in the quick launch area of the taskbar. they are a/v, speaker vol, and firewall. these used to show up within seconds of the desktop being displayed. however, the a/v icon pops up right away, on startup, but the speaker and firewall icons wont show up for 2-3 minutes. during this time, the machine s usable (slightly slow). now i use Codestuff Starter v5.6.1.19 to control my startup items and only the 3 previously mentioned are included there. when this first started, i did a restore from when it was good and that didnt help. i am not adverse to a format if necessary. i need your help/advice and tkz in advance, aloha

Download and run the programs in my signature and run the trend micro house call. Let us know what it finds. This sound like it could be a spyware issue.

I now have these quick launch buttons working but I was wondering how can I change the defaut programns they open. e.g. The email button opens Outlook but I want it to open Windows Live Mail.
REP will be given.

A:Launch Manager (Quick Launch Buttons)

Is Outlook your current default E-Mail program?

You can change the default program to Windows live mail by selecting the start orb and the Default Programs.
Then choose, Select the default program. Here you should select Windows Live mail.

Whenever I launch Outlook 2000 the Office 2000 installer also launches.

I installed Office 2000 on this machine several months ago, and Outlook has run without any odd behaviour.

It also happens any time I click on a new email.

Although I installed iTunes 2 days ago, today is the first time Outlook has behaved in this way.

I'm running Win XP with SP1, and I've scanned with AVG, Spybot and Ad-Aware, with nothing negative being reproted.

I recently purchased a new computer that has Office 2010 installed. I would like to move the contents of my .pts file from my old computer which has Outlook 2007 to my new computer which has Outlook 2010. Before, when I wanted to transfer my .pts file from one computer to another I would just copy the file to a portable hard drive and then transfer the file to the other computer. However, Outlook 2010 is completely different animal. When I go to C:, Users, App Data, etc., new computer, it is completely different from my other computer that had Vista. My question is, how can I transfer my .pts file and/or my address book, calendar, contacts, etc. for my older Windows Vista computer that had Outlook 2007, to my new computer that has Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 installed? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

A:Solved: Moving Outlook Messages and Address Book From Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010

Hello referee07;

Copy your .pst file from your old computer to the new one or your portable hard drive.

To launch the Outlook 2010 Export/Import wizard, first go to File menu, navigate to Open, and click Import.

In the Import And Export wizard, select Import from another program or file option and hit Next

Under File Type, select Outlook Data File(.pst) and hit Next

Now choose the file to import, select the options, and hit Next

Once done, finally select the folder to import from(if you want to import complete data don’t change any settings) and make sure Include subfolders is checked. You can either import the file to the current folder or choose the folder.

Hope this helps!

Can't sync iPas/iPod with Outlook

I have an iPad 2 and Outlook 2003. Outlook won't sync with my iPad..

However, they will sync on another computer. Then I can clear the iPad calendar and then sync to main computer but the old calendar info syncs.

Outlook/ my computer seem to be holding on to the old calendar info in some kind of cache.

Any ideas?

This is driving me crazy! I've just installed Windows 7 on my Sony Vaio. In setting up, I have been trying to run some .exe's. I can't get any of them to run from Windows Explorer. Whether I double-click on them, or right-click and select 'Open' or 'Run as Administrator' - just nothing happens.

Please help!

A:Can't launch .exe's

Hello Fluffbert, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if downloading and merging the EXE option in the tutorial below may be able to fix this for you after a restart. It restores the default associations for the exe file extension.

Hope this helps,

Seems like the OEM is not far away.

This is an invitation to launch event for OEM partners and resellers on June 18.

A:OEM Launch

Given the pre-sales and upgrade system generally start June 26, a launch event would make sense.

OEM's also need to start getting their recovery disks and marketing programs and everything together, too.

But I wouldn't necessarily expect them to get their own final versions of the software right away.... We'll see....

I'm trying to get my Vista x64 back up running after having an infection of some kind. MS Security Essentials says the box is clean now.

After cleanup, the icons for IE9 disappeared. I uninstalled and reinstalled IE9, but still no icons. I used MS FixIt, and it found no problems. I manually reset the IE settings through Control Panel\Internet Options\Advanced\Reset. Still no icons, and when I execute iexplore.exe the process dies immediately.

I don't use IE, but I need it for some apps that have compatibility problems with Chrome. Do I need to just reinstall the OS, or are there other options I haven't tried?

Hello again folks. I've been here before and received excellent help.
This time I have a friends computer running Win7 Ultimate 32bit. Her browser won't launch. First thing I noticed was no apparent Anti Virus program. I was under the impression that she was using security software from her IP, a local cable company. So far I have run MBAM and super anti spyware. Each are finding Trojans and other assorted junk. Each time I get rid of the viruses and reboot. Then still no browser. I even ran virus checks in safe mode with the same results. Does anybody have a clue as to what I have and how to get rid of it?
I'm on my own PC at the moment with her's beside me. Thanks in advance.
