Recover deleted content

Q: Recover deleted content

Hi all,

I was doing an assignment using Word for Mac 2011, and without realising it deleted a section of text. I continued to work on it all evening, so had made multiple saves, before I realised the content was missing. I had mixed answers from googling, but no joy so far, so not sure if anything can be done. Does anyone one know if I have any hope of recovering it, or a previous version of the file?
Also time machine was not on....

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I could just reinstall office but I dont have all of my emails backed up on a pst file

Thanks

Hi, all:

I think one of my employees removed content advisor from his computer. I went to Internet Options then Content, but Content Advisor is not there. The first option is Certificates. Is it possible that someone could remove this option? If so, how do I recover this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A:How do I recover content advisor?

Hello eggmalt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have IE10 now through Windows Updates, then you will have the "Family Safety" option instead of "Content Advisor" now. Content Advisor has been removed in IE10.

When you click on "Family Safety", you will be taken to Parental Controls. However, Web restrictions and activity reports are not included in Windows 7 Parental Controls like they were in Vista. You can still restrict the sites a standard user account can visit and see reports of their online activity by adding a service provider in Windows 7 Parental Controls, such as Windows Live Family Safety.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi,

I have a cd-r I burned sometime in 2005. Contains a few months worth of digital pictures.

This weekend I tried to access the pictures, but when I put in the cd, the computer is showing that the disc is empy.

When I look at the disc from My Computer, it shows Total Space 0 bytes, Free Space 0 bytes. If i open d: from My Computer, it shows a windows explorer with no content.

When I select Start -> Run -> d:, it says "The disc structure is corrupted and unreadable.".

The other cd's I made at the same time as this one open up just fine. I tried this cd on 3 different pc's, but same behavior on each.

I found some programs on the internet which claim to recover the contents, but I'm not really looking to pay for any program since the contents arn't vital, would just be nice get the pictures back.

Any possible way to get this done???

TIA

Hello,

I was trying to restore my laptop to the factory status but the tool failed in both modes, complete restoring and partial restoring keeping my files. It said something about files missing to proceed. So I chose the third option, the one called HDD Recovery something... the one that takes several hours and erases everything... which I didn't know, so now my laptop is completely empty, when I start it says "Checking Media" (Failed) so I assume that there is absolutely nothing to be read on the HDD.

My questions is,
should I just install a normal copy of windows and download all the dirvers required afterwards or there is any CD or File I could get from Toshiba so I can restore everything to normal?

Cause I assume that the laptop doesn't have any more the Recovery applications or any of the apps that you can run when you turn it on by clicking "0" or "F8"...

Thanks,

Adrian

Hello everybody!
I have windows 7 and run ?sticky notes? program for 4 years quite fine. All of a sudden, a week ago, without me doing anything specific, the content of them disappeared, but not the program. I can still open the program but it appears only a new empty sticky note and all the others are gone. I gave up the old notes and started new ones, after 2 days they disappeared again! What do I do wrong? Thank you for answering me.

A:Sticky Notes content lost - any chance to recover?

The sticky notes are stored in the following location (you'll need to enable the viewing of hidden files and folders to see it):

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes

You can try opening that file in Wordpad and searching for the plain text that is viewable or you can try restoring that folder to a previous version to see if you can recover the notes that way.

Hi all,

I watched a YouTube video regarding how to speed up windows 8.1 and the instructions were to delete the contents in the temp folder, %temp% folder and prefetch folder. Some of the contents could not be deleted and after deleting some of the files, some of my programs are not working - I can't install google chrome, can't update adobe and Hp support assistant stop working. I did a system restore but it says it did not restore completely due to an error. I tried to restore all of the deleted files but they said it failed and asked me to try again which I did and still could not. I tried changing permission in the temp folder properties but it failed too. Would appreciate any help

A:Solved: Help needed, deleted temp folder content.

The fastest way to do this would be to use a file recovery program like Recuva or Undelete; depending on what you need to recover you may need to buy a license. If you decide to go with this type of recovery, you should install the software on a different computer, then remove and attach your drive via usb adapter to that machine and then scan it for deleted files.

Oye. Where to start. I had a problem on my comptuer, so I had to reinstall XP. All is well. I have "roaming profiles" set up on a "server" [really is just my profile on a XP Pro machine w/ a big hard drive]. They are on their own partition. I set my new install machine profile point to the place where it should be. I wanted to use it right away and not wait for it to copy the 12gb of My Documents to my computer at the moment, so I moved them to a different folder. I logged on, and did what I wanted to do. Then I moved My Documents back to the profile folder on the server. Logged off of my computer and logged back on. My Documents is GONE! Apparently, since when I logged on there wasn't a My Documents, and when I logged off, it was there, Windows thought it would get rid of it...and it did. I tried several data recovery programs, and only one was able to recover some of my files, but about 90% of them are useless. A document is just a bunch of ??Ya94~9??A ect ect. Pictures are unreadable, music is corrupt. I'm very organized, and have everything set up into folders and sub-folders upon sub-folders ect. I'd like to not have to find out where everything goes, but if all else fails, I guess I could. Its about 12gb, and if there is any way of getting it back, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. I called a guy who does this for a living, $500 flat rate, and if successsful $100/gb. It's not worth that much, but it has a LOT of value ... Read more

A:recover my deleted photos, help

If the photos were never transferred to the computer and were deleted directly from the memory card, there's absolutely no way you can recover it, not that you've lost it. Sorry. If they were deleted from the hard drive, you could try using a program like Recuva or Restoration (both free) to recover them. But you cannot afford to waste time before you do that. There are a lot of free programs that recover it from the memory card too (maybe Restoration and Recuva do that too), but you need to have the card to do that.

Hi,

I've done a stupid stupid stupid thing and lost an important excel spreadsheet that I last used about two weeks ago. I've been having various performance problems (freezes/crashes) and was advised to run "Malwarebytes' anti-malware".

Before I did this, I backed up all my data to a CD-ROM and then deleted the files from my laptop. Then I went ahead and ran the software. The good news: my laptop seems to be behaving itself far better now. The bad news: somehow I seem to have missed this one file when backing up. I've got all my family photos, lots of stuff from work, even old stuff that I'll probably never need again but I thought "What the heck". Yet somehow, I've missed this one spreadsheet. I could kick myself!!

To make matters (probably) worse, I've run CCleaner a couple of times since then, as I was advised that it keeps the laptop clean. I've just looked at some settings there now and it's using "Normal" file deletion as opposed to "Secure", but "Wipe Free Space" is selected. Damn!

I only realised I'd lost the file last night and I have already downloaded some freeware utilities such as "Restoration" and "Undelete Plus", but none of these found the file.

Should I just give up now? Or is there some software that may find a file even after CCleaner has been run.

Grateful for any help.

Hello,

I accidentally deleted a folder that has many files in my portable drive. They are not in the recycle bin as I set it for immediately deletion. So I purchased a data recovery program online and it found the deleted files. When I restored and opened the files, they were corrupted. Is there a reliable program that can recover the files efficiently? The Internet has so many programs and I don't know which to pick.

Many thanks.

A:How do I recover deleted files?

Has anything been copied onto the drive since the deletion? If it has, the locations where the deleted files were may have been overwritten by new files. If this has happened, recovered files will be corrupt, and no recovery software will be able to recover them correctly.

If nothing has been transferred to the drive since the folder was deleted, then it's a disappointment that paid software fails to recover them. Well-regarded recovery programs include Recuva, PcInspector and GetDataBack (paid). Other posters may have other recommendations from their experience.

Hi Guys,

I have two HDs, 80 Gig primary and 120 gig secondary. I had win xp installed and running off the 80 gig and I backed up all my files onto the 120 gig. I then decided to format the 80 gig drive

I used a win 98 boot disk and formatted the 80 gig hd. then I started the win xp cd and it asked which partition I would like to choose. I chose the partitioned 120 gig drive not realizing what I had done. I confirmed the partition removal and then realized what I did. So I start flipping out and I restart my comp

I looked for my files and 120 gig drive but it was gone. I'm really going crazy. So I researched a little and I have two utilities on disk (mbrwork and testdisk) I started to run mbrwork and it has been searching for recoverable partitions for the past 2 hours. I don't know what to do and I really need the files on the 120 gig HD. I didn't install windows and I haven't done anything other than run the utility. Can someone please help me. I don't know what I'll do if I can't get my files back.

Thanks

Rob, There are utilities that can rebuild a File Allocation Table. I have never used one but I understand that they work by installing the hosed drive as a slave to another bootable drive and running the software from the boot drive to fix the slave.

Good luck. There is hope.

How and what did you delete? I don't know of a stand alone power management program. You can access your power options in the control panel, in XP anyways not positive with Vista. Whether Lenovo has one you'll have to read your owner's manual. Have you emptied the trash bin? If it's still in there, restore it back

It's possible the filles may still be there. First try to undelete in your recycle bin. If that's a no go, there are a few commercial recovery programs out there. The only way you can possibily undelete files that have already been deleted in the recycle bin is using such a program provided the files have not been overwritten. If you write something to the same disk it doesn't necessarily mean your deleted files have been overwritten.
If a file recovery program doesn't work, they're gone forever.

I need to recover deleted IE history and have scoured all different sources for recovery and im starting to doubt whether or not it is possible.

What I know wont work:

System Restore- The history was deleted between restore points, and the restore points on either side of it being deleted dont have the relevant history

What I've tried:

Index.dat readers. This is what I'm confused about, everywhere I go say this file holds all IE history unless its been altered, but from everything I've actually tried it seems all the index files I can find just hold information I can pretty readily access already.

So I'm willing to try any suggestions, and also if anyone has a little more info on index.dat that would change what I've found out myself it would also be greatly appreciated.

I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

Thanks

Today I deleted sixteen files that I needed - they weren't sent to the recycle bin as I usually hold down shift and delete together so I don't have to empty the recycle bin often. I know there are many file recovery programs available that you have to pay for, but as I only need to recover around 16 files I was wondering if any of you knew about a deleted file recovery program which was free, even if it was for a limited time. I tried downloading some demos but they either only allowed small files to be recovered or didn't let you recover any files without paying.

The files I deleted were no more than 100k/b, and I use Windows 98 SE. Anybody know of any recover deleted file programs that would help me?

Question: When I recovered deleted files, I got some very old files deleted more than 3 or 4 months ago. I wonder why they were in the computer? Why they did not delete till now?

Thank you
Ari

A:How come recover deleted files?

Because when a HDD Stores files it stores it Physically and Magnetically - The only way to secure delete something without it being recoverable is to write Data over. your computer may have not Written any data over those files yet

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Hello cdrdannya. If the deleted files were not removed through a systems recovery then you could try this.

GetDataBack is the best data recovery software I've found so far. Very easy to use, very effective.

I keep My Documents, My Videos etc. on a separate drive to OS (on E:\)

Today I noticed that My Documents folder was duplicated within the My pictures folder ... checked original still there - and then deleted what I thought was dup ... and both folder now gone.

I run RECUVA and saved all deleted files to separate HDD so they are at least safe.
Could not see option in RECUVA to actually recover a folder & its file structure.

However it would take long time to recreate structure & copy back.

I understand W7 has a feature in it to recover a deleted folder ... I looked at info and it seemed to say select folder and the right click ............. can't do that as folder no longer shows.

Is there a neat way to recover folder none of the files will have been overwritten.

A:recover Deleted folder

Do you have system restore enabled? If so you can mount the system restore point and browse it to copy your documents folder back to where it should be. You'll only lose any cahnges that were made to it since the last system restore point before the folder was deleted was created. Let us know as there are a couple of free softwares that can recover folders using this method.
