Solved: Canon Pixma ip4200 suddenly won't print

Q: Solved: Canon Pixma ip4200 suddenly won't print

I have Windows Vista and after two years of no trouble, my Canon won't print anything. I have reinstalled drivers, cleaned out all Temp files on the computer and cleaned out the printer queue. Still no luck. The printer comes on fine and shows no signs of being broken. The computer recognizes the printer, sends info to the printer and then nothing happens. The queue shows an error, but gives no code. Help!!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm assisting an elderly lady with this printer problem. After changing Cyan & Magenta cartridges the printer failed to print the current Word doc. The RESUME/CANCEL button was flashing orange continuously.
In the printer's Maintenance I tried the following:
i) Deep Cleaning - Black PGBK, resulted with Operator error. RESUME button failed to clear the problem.
ii) Deep Cleaning - All colours, same result as above.
iii) Cleaning - same result as above.
iv) Print Head Alignment - same result as above.
v) Nozzle Check - same resuilt as above.
Turned the printer off and on again, flashing orange light.
Shutdown the computer and restarted it, with no improvement.
Lastly noted how many orange flashes - five. So I consulted the Service Manual,
Section 2-1. Operator Call Errors (by Alarm LED Blinking in Orange).
5 times; Solution suggested Install the print head properly.
All the Ink Cartridges show red light. Can anyone please offer a suggestion as how to correct this problem, thank you?

Urgent help please.

This printer normally connected through USB to pc running Windows XP in room 1.
2nd wireless pc running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit in room 2.
Connected printer through USB on Win 7 pc and windows updated drivers ok and everything printing ok.
Then re-connected printer to XP pc ( in different room ) and set up printer and file sharing.
When adding printer wirelessly to Win 7 pc the windows update cannot find any drivers for this model and yet it does when running through a USB connection!
Can anyone tell me where on the Win 7 pc I can locate the drivers that were installed when printer was connected via USB or how to get around this problem? Drivers that can be downloaded from internet seem not to have an INF extension which Win 7 requires for installation.

May be being dense but can you tell me what I should be doing?

Canon ip4200 printer on windows 7
I try to print a CD-label with the CD-slide, using the label print software that comes on the original Canon CD.
The software says it cannot print because the top cover is open, while it is not. The orange alarm led in the RESUME button blinks 6 times.
Normal printing, taking paper from the A4 sources, goes well. Ink is OK.
I did a printer reset (with POWER and RESUME buttons), which did not help.
What is the matter here and what can I do to resolve this issue.

My printer was not printing at all. I have changed all 5 cartridges, and the printer still does not print. The RESUME/CANCEL button is flashing orange continuously, and when I attempt to print anything I get the following error message: "Operator Error: Press the printer's RESUME button. If this doesn't clear the error, cancel printing and turn the printer off and then on again".

I followed these instructions (multiple times) with no success.

From the printer's Maintenance I tried the following:
i) Deep Cleaning - Black PGBK, resulted with the same error as above.
ii) Deep Cleaning - All colours, same result as above.

I'm running Windows XP with all updates. For the last 100 years or so, I have very carefully loaded used paper (printed on one side only) in the back tray of my printers. I'll use clean new paper from the front cassette only for my more important jobs. Saves a tree and a few bucks. My brand new Canon Pixma MX860 allows me to select Rear Tray when I go to print, but if I have chosen Plain Paper and 8.5x11, it overrides and sends to the front cassette. (I'm trying not to grumble too much - my old MX780 had a nice little button on the printer that would simply switch trays. No such button on the MX860, an otherwise great printer.) Can anyone figure out a workaround so I can continue to recycle good used paper? And yes, I know, no one in their right mind except me would send used paper through my printer, and it's not recommended, and yes, I did once ruin a printer this way, but I've grown very careful, and it works for me. So ... any help?

A:Solved: Canon Pixma MX860 won't print 8.5x11 from back tray

Figured it out myself. Simple solution: set Paper Source default to Continuous Autofeed, and then when you want to print recycled from the back tray just pull the front cassette drawer out a bit. The MX860 thinks you are out of paper in front and sends the job to the back. Presto, recycled 8.5x11 plain paper from the back tray. Only drawback - you have to override the default when you go to print a photo or something in the back tray (which I don't do that often anyway).

I have a canon MP560 pixma printer that I am not able to print using the canon black ink. The cartridges are new OEM Canon cartridges. The printer has been idle for 1 year and is essentially new. I did a couple of black only deep cleanings but still prints black in a blue tone. I had Canon customer service tell me it could be a malfunctioning print head. Is there a way to clean the print head using alcohol and will this possibly clean the head without damaging it? I have used this method on other printers. Does anyone have another suggestions.
Thanks

I have a Canon Pixma MP210. So, I always print in black & white b/c I just print out documents. I've had an old, empty color ink cartridge sitting in there, though. Today I took the empty black cartridge out to recycle at Staples, as I was going to buy a new one. I got the bright idea to also take out the empty color cartridge, so that I could get that recycling credit, too. Well, now it will not print without a color cartridge, even an empty one, installed. It says: "The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized. Printing cannot be executed b/c the ink cartridge may not be propertly installed, blah blah blah." Is there any way to bypass this??? I don't want to have to buy a new color cartridge, as I won't even use it! I am willing to try any kind of hack. I need to print work documents. Help, please!!!

I'm using XP home edition and am having problems with this printer. I have installed all the software that came with the printer and it is also set as a default printer. There is a message that comes up to load the paper and even if I do so, it does nothing but feed it through after a few seconds.

The manual or the readme doesn't say anything about this problem. I used the 'express install' and when I go through and try to install the easy-photoprint ex, it immediately tells me it's installed.

I'm able to print in color and black and white with other formats. I'm also using version 1.0 that came with the printer.

My Pixma ip4200 printer has worked very well since new (could be 2 years old). It started requiring me to reseat the magenta cartridge once in a while, told me I had two cartridges installed, or magenta cartridge was not recognised as genuine (it is) now it won't recognise it at all and I can't print. Message is now: Ink tank errors have occurred. Replace ink tanks on which ink lamps are off. The light comes on when I lift and reseat it but error persists.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer with no improvement. I am loath to buy a new cartridge - present one is only half used - if it doesn't help and I shall lose the cost.
Has anyone seen this problem before and can offer a cure, please?

Ok, so I've had my printer for a longggg time now. I got my cartridges refilled recently and haven't used the printer since then apart from a couple of pages the same day. Yesterday I tried to print but it only prints in yellow.
So I figure print head must be clogged. I have ran warm water through it, didn't fix the problem. I sat it in a saucer of isopropyl alcohol until the ink ran. Yay! So I put it back in the computer and did a test print. It only printed in black! Then I ran cleaning and the next test print came out black!!
When I removed the print head unit it had ink smudges of all colours on it, which means the ink must be flowing and that the problem is not the print head but something between it and the paper. I am absolutely clueless on what it could be! Also, where the print head unit comes to rest is always covered in fresh ink, when I check.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Canon Pixma ip1500 Print Head Problems, this will have you speechless!!

I was also very frustrated with my wife's printer. Since she does not use it very often, the print heads get clogged from ink in the printer head. I have successfully cleaning this one by pouring hot water into the print head container and waiting for it to cool down, then following it up with isopropyl alcohol. Using toilet tissue, wipe the bottom of the ink jets until the color and black is about run out. Hold the head level so that the alcohol does not dump out while wiping the jets.

Fill up your cartridges with ink. I buy bulk ink so I don't have to pay so much for ink replacement. I have bottles for each color (C, M, Y) and black that have needle tips. If you do not have this you could use medical dropper bottles. Ask the pharmacist for these and explain what you're doing and he will probably give them to you. They also have syringes with blunt metal tips, but he may be more reluctant to hand those out for fear of drug misuse.

The ink is entered into the top of the Canon branded cartridges by prying off the rectangular covers. Make sure you put the right color ink into the three openings for the color cartridge. To determine this, use a toothpick to poke in and get a sample on the toothpick. Once you know the correct opening, Mark it by either a sticker or sharp steel marker on the cartridge next to each opening. The best way seems to drip the ink into the openings until you have added the amount specified for each color. These cartridges hold 5 1/2 ml o... Read more

Hi everyone,

Got a bit of a strange problem here. Got a brand new laptop and printer, and suddenly I can't get a decent photograph print.

The printer is highly recommended, it's a Canon Pixma iP4700 which has had excellent reviews. But everything I print on it has no punch or sparkle, it's almost as if it has a grey film over it, a bit like I'm looking at my photo with cataracts! I printed the same photo on my dad's (much older) Epson printer and got a brilliant result.

I don't know if the problem is the printer, though, as he has Windows Vista and I have Windows 7 and have been using Google Picasa to import my photos. I am wondering if there is a setting on there that is colour correcting my photos either on import or on their way to the printer, as I am not used to Windows 7 yet.

Is there anyone here who can shed a bit of light on the problem? I really don't want to take the printer back if it's something I am doing with Windows that can be easily changed.

Thank you for your help!

Bought a Canon MP 750 on Wednesday. Seems to print well, but not happy with the results of walk up copy and also scan to computer/print.

Original printing from the computer, print alignment, print nozzle checks etc are all OK. It seems there is a problem with the scanning - copies come out significantly less colour intense, at times with bits even missing from the copy.

Rang Canon for support and returned machine to store on Friday & got a second one. It seems to fare no better.

At this stage I will be ringing Canon again on Monday - but in the meantime I'm interested to hear from anyone else with this machine.

Can anyone tell me what happens when you select the copy button, and then "colour"? Do you get the following message:

Colour copying......

or do you get

Scanning.....

followed by a request for the next page or to click OK to exit?
This then followed by

Colour copying....

as above?

The reason I ask is that on the first machine we only ever got "colour copying" followed by the scan and the print out.

On the second machine, the first two times we did a copy it gave us the scan message on the display first, followed by the copy message. However from the third copy on it has always only ever been "colour copying...."

If I use the software to scan into the computer I can set different scanning resolutions....but when I print out I don't see any marked improvement.

The above was using the image quality "normal&q... Read more

Not sure if this goes in this forum or the hardware forum, but I thought I'd go ahead and try here.

I have an old Canon Pixma IP4200 (US) printer that I modified to be able to print directly on CDs. I use this very rarely, mostly to create demo-reels to send out to prospective employers. Anyway, it's been about a year and a half I think since the last time I did it.

So my problem is that when I print on a CD, the print is offset from where it should be by about 1.125" This makes it so everything is in the wrong place, and part of the CD is left white.

I am printing from Photoshop, and I tried turning off the "center image" option in the Photoshop print dialog box, and manually offsetting the image. This doesn't seem to have any effect on the placement of the document in the preview. My document is 4.877" in each direction which is the size of a CD, this is the way it should be right?

Has anyone dealt with CD printing on these Canon Pixma printers who can help me fix this problem? I really need to get this reel out. Thanks.

I tried using the Canon PrintCD software, but it says there's no supported printer connected. I'm guessing because I don't have the true European version of the printer.

Sounds like OCR is not installed... no text option
Do you have M$ office ??
If so .. scan as a tif .. then see
M$ Office >> Office Tools >> M$ Office Document Imaging.
This will read the tif and save to a Word.doc file, then you can use Spell Checker ..etc .. to clean it up.

M$ Office Document Scanning .. Will probably run the scanner in the Office OCR mode.

Hi, I decided to intall cheaper carts on my printer and extracted the chips from the old carts and some worked. I have two now that I have bought genuine Canon carts for but when i install them, the red light keeps flashing on the cart and the amber light on the front flashes seven times continuously. When I try to print I get an eror message saying I cannot have more than one of the same ink tanks installed. Any ideas? Canon say the printer is out or warranty and try turning it off for an hour to reset itself! ( Which didn't work!)

A:Canon ip4200 - More than one ink tank of the same colour installed

Resolved this one although I feel a little silly, I thought I would post the answer as I could not find it on any website.
I asked inkredible.co.uk, who I bought the compatible carts from if they had ever came across this and they said "Hi Tony, The only time I have come across this is when I transferred the chips the very first time I did it. The problem was that I got the chips mixed up. What your printer is saying is that you have 2 chips in the printer that come from the same cartridge. 1 will be the original cartridge. The other will be on the wrong colour compatible. Hope this helps. Regards, Nichola"

The lesson is replace one cart at a time and do not do what I did and think I may as well replace them all as they are all running out. Then I got the chips mixed up. The chip is therefore specific to an individual colour even though each colour is exactly the same shape of cartridge.

You learn something new everyday.!!!

I have a Canon i850 printer which I have immensely enjoyed using these past four+ years. For one thing, I've never had even one paper-jam during that time.

My understanding always has been that it is best to have separate components, so that's why I've always owned a dedicated printer. However, it appears that the present-day trend is more toward all-in-one units. Actually, I'm in the market only for a printer, but if the Canon MP600 all-in-one is technologically advanced far beyond my i850, then I would strongly considering buying one.

The MP600 has a scanner (which I don't need, although it would provide me with a back-up) and it has several modern features of convenience which my i850 doesn't have. What I would especially like to know is whether or not the MP600 produces appreciably better results with both text and photos than my i850. Also, would it be faster and cheaper in the long run than the MP600? While quality of results is more important than anything else, speed, economy, and convenience also enter into the equation.

(I was also considering the Canon PIXMA iP6700D photo printer, but from what I've read so far it appears that the MP600 all-in-one is more highly-regarded.)

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has an opinon on this matter. Thank you very much.

I get a bubble error message from the system tray that says:

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it.

When I look at Device Properties the device status says:

No drivers installed for this device.

I know the drivers are installed. Even so, I uninstalled and reinstalled them. I downloaded the most recent drivers and tried that, still no luck.

All other USB devices are working.

I did have a virus problem 2 days ago that I cleared up. The printer malfunction seems to coincide with that time frame.

I'm running a HP 7100y with Windows XP.

Thanks for any help.

I recently installed a Canon Pixma MP150 on my Dell P3 (Win 2K SP4) and have, so far, been unsuccessful in getting it to work at all. The installation itself seemed to go correctly, but in a nutshell -- the printer will not operate in any of it's "multifunction" modes. With apologies for what will be a long post, I will try to describe the exact sequence of events and symptoms:

PRINTING

After turning the printer on:

1) The green "On/Off" button flashes, a single sheet of paper feeds through the printer, the printer performs what sounds like a cartridge cleaning, the green "On/Off" button light turns steady and the LED readout reads "1", but the "Black Ink" light is flashing also.

2) After a couple of seconds, the printer makes another "cartridge cleaning" type noise, the green "On/Off" button starts flashing again and the yellow "Alarm" light starts flashing along with the already flashing yellow "Black Ink" light. At that time the LED starts flashing alternately between "E" and "2" (The paper is, however, loaded correctly)

3) At this time, If I attempt to print anything, I get an onscreen notice of "Service Error 5100", which suggests that I "Cancel printing and then turn the printer off and then back on" In the "Status Monitor" that appears on the screen if I open "Ink Details" on the menu I get the graphic readout ... My Canon Pixma IP4200 is flashing the light on the resume button 5 times. I hve tried resetting, switching off, restarting computer to no avail. What else can I do?

A:Canon Pixma

Press theResume button when the button is blinking. If that fails, unplug the USB cable and the power cable from the computer end. Wait a few seconds and plug the power cable in. Wait a minute and plug the USb cable in.

I am running Windows 7 in a virtual environment using Parallels on my iMac intel.  My Pixma printer shows up in the printers list in Windows but refuses to print.  The documents are neatly lined up in the queue but nothing happens.  I have looked for new drivers and can find none that I have not already installed. What to do?

Hi,

Canon has not released a Windows 7 driver for your printer.

You can try the latest driver for Windows XP or Windows Vista from here:

If the issue persists, I am afraid you have to wait for Canon to release a Windows 7 driver.

I use Canon Pixma printer with Windows 7. When I want to scan and e-mail the colours of my computer change radically. I cannot get a full picture reproduced either. Only part of it is reproduced. I had to do a system restore to get the computer to remove the ugly colours. This is the second time that it happened. Please help.

A:Canon Pixma

As regards not being able to reproduce a complete picture, try reducing the 'PPI' setting in your scanner software prior to scanning. Whilst 300 ppi is considered the optimum setting for photo scans which you intend to print, that's way too high for an email. Try scanning at 150 ppi or even 100 ppi if it's only for an email attachment.

The scanning time will then be much shorter and there will only be half as much data for the PC to cope with (compared to scanning at 300 ppi).

I updated my driver for this printer in order to use it with a new VISTA computer. In doing this, my XP laptop, can no longer use this printer. Is there a simple solution to this?

A:Canon pixma MP 780

Updating drivers usually doesn't affect the hardware itself. Its strange that it simply stopped working because you installed vista drivers on another computer. My Pixma was simply a plug-and-play from my vista desktop to my XP laptop.

Can you provide more detail? Does the computer detect the printer but it simply doesn't print? Or is the printer undetected completely? Maybe you could try uninstalling then installing new drivers for it.

Canon PIXMA250 Series Multifunction Printer prints test every time.

A:Canon PIXMA 250

Prints the word "test"?

Prints every time you turn the printer on? Every time you try to print a document or photo? How does this event relate to Vista?

Hey Folks, I have a Canon MP160 and I am trying to print photos, but they always come out redder that I want, I found some NTSC Color Bars and printed them and Magenta is purple and red is deep orange, I did a monitor calibration with a Spyder Pro and thought that corrected the problem but to no avail, any suggestions?

A:Canon Pixma MP160

what kind of printer are using
are you using the correct profile for the type of paper

getting a print to look like it does on your monitor requires carefull calibration and printer profiling
