Does my X1 Yoga have a mobile broadband ability via a SIM card?

Q: Does my X1 Yoga have a mobile broadband ability via a SIM card?

Hi,I have a Thinkpad Ultrabook, an X1 Yoga i7 which is model 20FRS11T0W. On the back edge there is a SIM card slot, but I would like to know if there is hardware for it?In Device Manager, I did not see anything obvious for it.When I clicked View Show Hidden devices in Device Manager, "Modems" appeared, but only has SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem. I don't see anyhting about WWAN - is that would it would appear as? Or does it only appear in Device Manager if a SIM card is inserted? And what is the size of the SIM - is it nano? Could not find a manual online. Thanks,David

Preferred Solution: Does my X1 Yoga have a mobile broadband ability via a SIM card?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We have close to 400 of the P40's in our work environment. Just recently, we started getting calls and tickets to where the WiFi was no longer listed in the network connections list or that the WiFi was listed but the mobile broadband was not. After some research and troubleshooting, we noticed that on these machines, if you disabled the mobile broadband  in the Device Manager, the WiFi would come back. If you re-enabled the mobile broadband, the WiFi would disappear again. But they will not display together. We've updated all drivers, we've verified the BIOS rev. and updated that. These machines run WIndows 8.1. We've checked Windows Updates and haven't come to a conclusion that it's an update. As the calls and tickets are a sliver of the machines in use.  We've checked power management settings and disabled the ability for the machine to turn the cards off, no change.  We've reimaged the laptops we have been testing with a clean install of Windows 8.1 and no added software, no change.  The associates that use these machiens can't use the mobile broadband 24/7. These are metered connections and were meant to be used when in area's with no access to WiFi. Two questions:1. Was there a different mobile braodband chip added throughout production that may be causing this?2. Has anyone ele seen this issue? If so, was it resovled? Thanks

I use a laptop computer that was issued to me by the company I work for. They provided me with an Embarq mobile broadband air card to get high speed internet. Once connected to the air card, I access Outlook to get my business emails and do work related research on the internet using internet explorer. However, I also use the same computer to retrieve my personal emails by going to Internet Explorer then aol mail. I also visit several baseball websites using the company laptop. (My son is a minor league player.)

I know that if my IT department wanted to see what I've been doing on their laptop, they can request it, do a forensic search and see where I've been.

However, can the IT department see where I go on the internet, get my aol email password, etc. from the server at the office without me knowing it, when I use a mobile broadband air card?

PS: I don't go to any bad sites. And, this was not written on the company laptop.

My internet connection is through a Sprint Sierra Wireless Aircard 595U USB connection. Supposedly the card can be plugged into the router and each computer in the network will then be hooked to the internet. Unfortunately few routers (including mine) have a USB connection. So I have to plug the card into one of the three computers on my network, switching the card as needed. Someone published a solution to the problem and is a follows:

“Few routers that I'm aware of accept the AirCard 595U's USB connection. And only one that I'm aware of, the CradlePoint CTR350,
explicitly supports the 595U. I just got a 595U and Sprint Mobile Broadband and had the same issue of setting up a wireless home network using it. I solve the problem using Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). Here are the steps I took:

1. Set up the 595U as normal, plugged into a USB port on your PC.
2. In Network Connections (assuming you're using Windows), right click on the dial-up listing for "Sprint Mobile Broadband - Sierra Wireless," and choose "Properties."
3. Click on "Advanced" tab and check the first box under "Internet Connection Sharing" to "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection."
4. Choose "Local Area Connection" from the "Home Networking Connection" pull-down.
5. Choose "OK" and reboot computer.

I purchased a HP ENVY TouchSmart 14-k111nr Sleekbook that came with T-mobile Mobile Broadband for 2 years from the Microsoft Store two months ago. When I clicked 'Internet Access', there would be a 'Mobile Broadband' option for me to choose and select the T-mobile Mobile Broadband. Unfortunately, that has not been appearing since the last few days. I checked my hardware and it appears that there still is a 'Smart Card' but with no information regardin it. I also checked the HP Support Assistant and HP Utility Center but they had nothing. I have tried removing the card and placing it back again. The computer emits the sound that recognizes new hardware but no installater comes up Searching forums, I tried downloading the HP Connection Manager, but it failed to install when an error message ' NO WWAN' came up I also downloaded and reinstalled the latest Mobile Broadband Drivers but nothing happened. In fact, I suspect that it maybe the new updated drivers that caused my T-mobile SIM card to be disabled. I have tried calling HP support but they cannot help and demand payment for 'advanced tech support' when my Laptop is still under Warranty. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I will be moving from the rented house I've been in for 21 months into a new house in the next couple of months. The house is a new-build and I will obviously not have broadband to start with - don't know if I'll have a phone line straightaway yet. I am trying to work out the best way to get online during this time.I am in the UK.

I went in to an O2 shop today and they were trying to sell me a dongle which cost £20 and then £2 a day, £7.50 for a week and £15 for a month. This would get over my immediate problem of geing broadband-lacking when I move but wasn't quite what I had in mind. I was thinking more of a dongle with x amount of Gbs (to be decided) which doesn't have clock running on it. So, after I've stopped needing it at the new house, I could take it out and about with me on my laptop whenever I wanted and when it ran out I'd top it up.

Does such a deal exist and, if so, what size in Gbs would be OK? We use aroung 10Gb per month on average but that's with the kids looking at YouTube, using iPlayer a bit so assume that just a bit of surfing would need less? Thanks for any help.

A:Mobile broadband Pay-as-you-go?

Hi,
I use '3' mobile broadband all over UK. £10 per month, 1gb which is plenty for an hour or so a day surfing plus emails.

I think in a new build you'll soon have utility providers beating a path to your door!!

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I assume you live in the UK like me so I think I can help.

I use 3 mobile broadband which in my opinion is the best of the PAYG tariffs. You can buy a dongle which is the expensive bit or if you have an unlocked 3G phone which allows tethering you can use that if you know how to set it up.
You get 150MB of free data when you top up (minimum ?5 in store, ?10 online) plus it also works as a phone if you want it to.
This 150MB of data lasts 90 days or until you use it all up.
This means it works out you spend ?1.66 for 50MB of data every month, which if you have static broadband at your home should be enough. If you ever use more than this just top up more regularly.

For more info (and probably a much clearer explanation visit 3 - Pay As You Go - SIM Only - Free stuff - Free stuff with every top-up)

I don't know too much about Virgin medias mobile broadband but a good place to start would be here Mobile Broadband - Broadband - Virgin Media

Hope this helps, Oli.

EDIT: After reading your post more carefully, it sound like your do not have your Internet connection going into a Wireless router and then to your laptop and desktop.

This suggests to me that your Virgin Contract may be quite old as all new tariffs include a free Wireless router and setup, not to mention less to pay per month (I went down this road with BT, tripled my connection speed, got a load of free stuff and I now pay ?10 less per month.)

I'm using one on the 3 network, its the second one I've had.And Does anyone know if companies such as AOL or BT plan to bring out versions as at the moment in the uk its only T-Mobile,3,Virgin,Vodafone and Orange who offer them, and usage is quite expensive typically ?10 1Gb,?15 3Gb and ?25 7Gb.I'm using 7Gb a month and I'm not downloading very much

o2 are are advertising it,but its just a 3G i-phone on pay as you go for ?350 i could buy a laptop for that!! At the moment Vodafone offer the fastest speed 7.2mbps the other all around 3mbps.

My friend has a compaq presario 2133ac laptop runnig xp home sp2. she has recently tried to install and use a huawei e1762 usb modem for 3g mobile broadband(blinkit, powered by optus). the thing won't save a default setup for apn(the default setting is static, but should be dynamic). I've changed this manually, but although it claims to have saved and set as default, it still goes back to static on restart. when I connect to the net, internet explorer starts searching, then I get the bsod. it cites BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. the usb hub onboard is version 1, and the device is version 2.0. I'm stuck! Any ideas?

A:mobile broadband is a bytche

It would appear that this is an issue to do with the laptops outdated usb version 1 hub. the ladys bro' tried the modem on his desktop(version 2.0 hub, more RAM), and it worked no drama(still had to manually set the connection profile, though). got the mongrel working on the laptop, but very slowly. I'm thinking that only a RAM upgrade(currently 256MB - dismal!!!) & a new usb 2.0 hub on the cardbus will fix this. The modems manufacturer(Huawei) don't seem to have this model listed.

I am trying to connect a new Dell Latitude laptop with a Dell 5720 VZW (EVDO Rev-A) mobile card to our network using the sonicwall GVC. Any interface other than the VZW card such as WIFI or ethernet cable work fine when connecting and mapping drives over the internet using GVC. However with the Verizon Wireless connection, all I can do is ping our server and strangely I have no problem connecting to remote desktop. When attempting to map a drive on the laptop using the mobile broadband I get the error message "The network location cannot be reached." almost as if I never was within reach of the server even though I can ping it and RDP! I have Netbios enabled on our VPN so I don't believe that is the problem. Numerous calls to Sonicwall support have left me with nothing. Any suggestions would be VERY appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help that might be offered. I'm running Vista.

Hi,

I've been using 3's mobile broadband for a few month now and everything's been fine...until I decided to try a different web browser to see if it was any quicker. I downloaded the Apple browser and it was ok but nothing too special so i uninstalled it. Since that day, when I click the 'connect' button on my broadband window, it's started coming up with the error -

'The web browser application associated with connection '3connect' failed to start. Please check your browser application settings.'

It works fine if you leave this message up and open up IE, but if you click 'ok' then it says that connection has failed do you want to retry...I'm confused. I can't for the life of me figure out where I'm supposed to change this. Can anyone help me please.

Hello,

I already mentioned an issue concerning mobile broadband in this topic:
3G dial up connection properties changed/no automatic connect

3G dial up connection properties changed/no automatic connect - Microsoft Answers

Now I have Windows 8 Pro RTM installed and still have the same issue.

I found the following website:
Engineering Windows 8 for mobile networks - Building Windows 8 - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

What I am looking for is my Huawei EM770W to pop up as:

and
But instead it just looks like:
And in the "Networks" charm I see a telephone icon next to the connection of which I think it is broadband. I can't even find that icon on Google.
I can only view the properties of the connection. That brings me to the desktop view and the standard Dial-Up settings.

The main issue is: I have HAD the Huawei EM770W work like that! It just doesn't do it anymore. Now I cannot set this connection to automatically connect. Basically: I cannot use the advantages for Mobile Broadband that Microsoft has built in Windows 8!

I would really appreciate some assistance here!

Hi!I have previously successfully used my built in 3G modem in my T410, model 2537W6C with Win7 64bit. It's unclear why it has stopped working. I have not touched the SIM card. I don't recall messing with any drivers, broadband-related software, etc.  I have installed drivers "Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Modem 9205", version 2.0.7.4 (2011-05-09). The Lenovo "Wireless Radio" app (<Fn>-<F5>) shows Wifi, bluetooth and mobile broadband adapter installed, but only the first two can be toggled on/off. The mobile broadband is stuck in "off". If I press the button to Power on Wireless WAN Radio, the mouse cursor turns into an hourglass, but the WWAN symbol does not turn green (i.e. it is not turned on). I have Ubuntu installed on the same system as Dual boot. Mobile broadband used to work in Ubuntu, but does not appear in the available networks any longer. Please advise what more troubleshooting I could do, and how I can get my Mobile Broadband adapter back to life.

That might mean the card can't resume from one of the power mode.Thy to reset the BIOS/EC and laptop power circuits:unplug the power cable and battery, press the power button and hold it for 20...30 seconds. Enter the BIOS Setup, load and save default settings, check out the settings you prefer, save them. Just signed up with Blink Mobile Wireless Broadband and am enjoying better browsing after years of speeds of 40K avg optusnet dial-up.

Questions:

1. What is my options concerning accessing newsgroups (Usenet) as my Forte Agent now doesn't work since changing over?.

2. E-mail access via my outlook, do I delete the dial-up optusnet mail account now, and if so what do I setup as the email acct to download mail to my hard drive & program I use for e-mail?.

3. Does anyone know if this provider or one's offering the same service, does use a part of your data limit while you are on-line but now browsing (I get up and have dinner leaving connect open)?.

4. Now it's up and running, do I simply delete all references to my former Optusnet dial-up (Connection, I.E Settings, ete)

Any other tips or advice most thankful for as the site I went to, had not that much to really educate a newbie to WBB.

hey all, first post so can i start by saying great forum. Have found loads of useful info on here, but this it the first time I couldnt find an answer.

My problem is this :

I have a ZTE MF627 modem with a mobile broadband sim from O2 in it. Everytime I insert the USB device and use the connection manager software to initiate the connection windows vista askes me to set a location for the network, and suffixes it with a number

eg set a location for the O2 (5) network :home, work , public.

The first time i connected it was simply o2 as this was the name of my network. The problem lies when I disconnect and reconnect. For some reason vista seems to recognize it as a NEW network as opposed to reconnecting to the old profile and again askes me to set a location and adds a number thus creating a new profile. Its simply an annoyance having to set my location each time, and periodically having to delete some network profiles, but I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this. Connecting in the same USB port seems to have no impact at all.

see here for a screenshot

any help greatfully received.

The 02 mobile broadband site for topping up the SIM looks like everything is working ie. no telling me I owe it money or saying there's some other problem that needs fixing. I can ping news.bbc.co.uk and google.co.uk but can't get to either of them as websites using either Firefox or Microsoft Edge. For secure websites I get the error message "secure connection failed" and for others "the connection was reset while the page was loading" Other things aren't recognising that they've got an internet connection either (AVG, some Windows things that try to connect to go.microsoft.com)Have tried restarting the computerHave tried turning AVG (firewall + antivirus software) off.Have tried going into and out of airplane modeWhat do I try next?

Please pardon my naivete, but I really have very vague ideas about these sticks in terms of after purchase cost(activation? monthly?) and amount of internet time and usage(how much surfing it allows? can I watch hour/s long videos? Several times a day? Everyday?

T Mobile ZTE MF691 Rocket 3G 4G Webconnect USB Laptop Stick Modem AirCard HSDPA | eBay

Above link is an example(of several)e-bay listings of device.(stick).

NetZero is for a short time offering a year-long cost-free 4GB stick for a cost of the device. That's it.

PS: I am fully aware this topic has nothing to do with W7...but I really do not know where to go for this.

With those Adaptors it all depends on the tarriff/carrier as to what you get.

Normally a top up of say $10 will give you about 1-2gb of usage. Thats not a great deal of data when it comes to streaming videos, but will five you hours and hours of surfing.

I use my phone as a hotspot when im out the house, and id say i watch about 1-2 hours of youtube and netflixs a day, in a month that adds up to about 20-30gb of usage as an idea of heavy video streaming. But luckily for me i get unlimited usage on my phone with a fair usage policy of 1000GB a month.

Windows 10 Help says that I should have a Mobile connection link under Network and Internet, I don't. By luck I managed to connect my dongle because Windows saw it as a drive. I now need to be able to use the Mobile link in order to set my connection to metered so that I don't download updates and over-run my allowance. Because Windows now sees my mobile connection as an Ethernet connection I can't set it to metered. How do I tell Windows to offer me a metered connection (I've tried and failed to edit the registry, mainly because I'm too dim to know what I'm doing). From not being offered a mobile connection there are a whole series of other problems which can wait for another day.

I have a dongle to use with laptop when away from home. I have connected to O2 Mobile Broadband and will purchase credit on daily, weekly or monthly basis when necessary. The dongle claims to be a memory stick and does work in that capacity on the laptop where the O2 Mobile Broadband is installed, but does is not recognised as an external drive in the desktop computer (which does not have the O2 mobile broadband software installed. Any ideas of why not?

If its like my wifes dongle then it has a micro sd card inside, to read those files in another machine you need to use a separate card reader.

You could try and install the o2 mobile software on the DT computer and access it there.

Hi, I have the W540, and I see there is a slot behind the battery for a SIM card, I tried using my SIM card and I still can't use mobile broadband. so I have a few questions: Can I use mobile broadband on the W540? do I need any drivers? do it use a special SIM (I use Djezzy GSM)?  Please help me, I really want this thing worked out. Thanks you in advance.

A:W540 - Mobile Broadband?

Welcome to the CommunityMake sure your laptop has built-in wwan modem with drivers installed. Have a look at Windows Device Manager -> Network Adapter category. Is there an antry with wwan modem name in the title? Or is there any device with error or in Other Devices category? If your laptop isn't CTO model, provide its MTM code. It'll allow to check out laptop factory configuration.
