Can't open Adobe, firefox redirecting, programs wont open...

Q: Can't open Adobe, firefox redirecting, programs wont open...

I just separated from my wife, left my develoment machine behind, and have my laptop which the kids used. It now will not open several programs, including users in the control panel, google chrome, and others, when I click on links, most of the time it goes to different windows, I have ran malwarebytes, azerias, registry mechanic, and even went to reinstall windows at the i362 file, but it isn't there to reinstall from, (I don't have a cd player on this), I have 4 websites to get finished by monday, or I won't have money to pay for a place to live, and it is cold outside! Please help! I am attaching the files you had asked someone else to include with your dds I think it was called.Jerry

Preferred Solution: Can't open Adobe, firefox redirecting, programs wont open...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can't open Adobe, firefox redirecting, programs wont open...

Oh PS, the main problem I started with is I cannot use any of my Adobe software (dreamweavcer, flash, fireworks, photoshop,cs4) this may be where it all started.

Ive had this virus for a few days now and have tried just about everything, i was just going to to a clean reinstall of my os but cant even make a media creation disk, i get an error. i even had a buddy make one for me but my pc is so corrupted that it wont even boot the usb. someone please help me here.

A:My virus wont let me open my antivirus software, or open certain programs.

Not knowing what OS you're using makes this possibly not applicable, but if it's Windows 10:
An offline scan, if you can trigger it, runs before the OS is loaded and can nuke things that cannot be touched once the OS is loaded and the virus/malware is active.

all my program icons now show as adobe files and when you try to open them they will try to open with adobe. The box is ticked to open files of this type (.exe) with adobe and I cannot remove it. I ran spyware and antivirus software and nothing was detected. I tried following a previous thread and it only made it worse. now the bottom task bar does not show up (I ran: taskkill /im explorer.exe /f).
Can you help or do I have to reinstall everything?

A:all programs want to open with adobe

Try using System Restore (choose a date which precedes the start of the problem):
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

When you do get it running properly, you should create a system image, the tools for which are already built-in to Windows 7 (Control Panel > Backup & Restore).
Then next time Windows get screwed up, re-installing from the image will be easy and it's way, way faster than installing Windows from scratch.

I tried to open a file and was prompted with an Open With screen. Mistakenly I must've chosed Adobe Reader and as a result all my programs were attached with a .lnk extension and couldn't open any programs. I uninstalled Adobe Reader and everything went back to normal but whenever I reinstall Adobe Reader the problem returns. Is there a simple solution to fix this?

I tried to run a system restore but the only restore point is a System Image Restore Point six months old. I will post this under a new thread but thought I mention it in case you suggest a system restore to fix the .lnk problem.

following the directions here may fix your problem.

I am having a problem with search engines. When i do a search and click on the results links, it takes me to a spam site. Also, i have tried many types of programs to get log results. The only program i could get to work to do a complete scan was Win32kDiag which is the program that produced the scan below. The problem i had with other programs is that the program would open, start the scan and then disappear. Then when i would try to reopen the program it would tell me that i did not have permission to open it. It is happening with other programs as well. These are my two problems and the log is below.

Not sure why, have never experienced this in previous versions of Windows,
but I can't seem to get pdf files to open in Firefox.

Using the latest version of firefox, video drivers, and adobe reader.
Got adobe reader installed fine, and adobe flash player installed fine,
but still pdf files won't open in firefox.

when I click on a pdf file to open it in the browser, it doesn't do anything,
its like the link to the pdf won't open at all. Happens every time.

Only way I can open pdf's on the web is to right click on the pdf link,
click on 'save link as' download it to the computer, and open it in adobe reader.

I can do that, problem is this is my wifes computer, and she's not as computer
literate as I am, so she has to ask ME to do all that for her whenever she comes
across a PDF document on the web, which happens alot with her taking online classes
right now. don't want her to have to call me every time she needs to open a pdf document
ya know? especially when its something small like a groupon or something she only needs
to view once to print the thing... so it would really be nice if she could bring up pdf's in firefox
so its not so much work on me

I'm not always home when she has these issues, sometimes I'm at work and don't have time to

8 GB DDR3 RAM (had 4 but I put another 4 G stick in there due to windows 8 being soo slow)

The 8 GB helped, but her computer still crawls, and we can't seem to figure out why,

Anyway, our problem right now is with PDF documents,
she can download & view PDF's if she downloads them,
but she's not a computer guru like me and just wants to view them in firefox when she clicks on them inside the browser window, but for some reason PDF's won't load in firefox, and we're not sure why. She's taking a class right now at ball state for her masters in early childhood development, and she's really been struggling with this since her professor sends her PDF's like crazy.

Does that functionality require Java or flash or something? otherwise we're not sure what could be causing it. sure we're missing something though.

She's so upset, ever since she got this computer about a month or two ago, she's been very unhappy with it. She hates windows 8, cuz it don't run her boardmaker software she needs for school, she's a preschool teacher and relies on boardmaker to print off pictures for the kids, but it won't run in Wondows 8. hello and to start off i'd like to thank anyone who takes time to read this and try to help me out, thank you.

I'm running win xp sp2.

On July 1st an infected file was downloaded and run. AVG and Winpatrol noticed this and prompted the user to take action. The user checked to block all changes that the infected file tried to make, and deleted the file. Then music started to come from the speakers. All kinds of completly random stuff that is not installed on the computer. In task manager there was a file "c.exe" after ending this process the music stopped and it never came back. I don't know if it is related, but the next day the computer started to have problems.

To get firefox to work, i had to open the browser, it wouldnt appear on screen but the process showed in task manager. Then i used task manager to end the process tree. Then when i opened the browser it would open but run slowly. This no longer works. Now when i click to open it nothing happens and the process does not show up in task manager.

Internet explorer works fine and that is what i'm using to write this. The computer was also having this overall lag with everything i'd try to do on it. Also I am not able to use any of the formatting options in the message textbox on the Post New Thread or Post New Message page. Im not even able to use the formatting options in the Quick Reply text box. Also, when I write a message in which I have used [Enter] for a new line and put 3 paragraphs in a message, the message when posted appears as one single, that is it is not recognising the [enter/return].

The drop down menus for the forum options bar(the menu above which has options: Security& HJT, Software & Hardware, Operating Systems, Internet & Networking, General Tech, Community) is working fine.

The other thing is that I cannot open Gmail normally. After sometime it tells me Try Reloading the Page. Gmail opens in basic HTML.

Techguy and Gmail both are working absolutely fine in IE7(wish it was the other way round, I wudnt even have bothered).

I am posting this message using IE7.

Recently I am unable to open the Store app. After a small Windows 10 update, I have been unable to access the store. When I open the start menu and click the icon, it is unresponsive. Also when I go through my apps, it wont open when clicked there. I even had it pinned to my toolbar and the icon disappeared but left space and when I clicked there, I got an error message. Also, as I was typing this, my toolbar began being difficult. Certain things like the start icon, the calculator icon, or the internet explorer icon wont open when clicked. But the google chrome and the file explorer icons work well. I am not sure if there is a way for me to update the Store app or get it to launch through a browser or do I have to wait till another Windows 10 update to fix my problem.

Thank you for any advice or help in advance.

Does this affect all user accounts?

Possible that the PC may still be infected with malware.

I restarted my PC and now everytime it comes on the hour glass will not go away like something is loading but only on the windows task bar. I tried everything and the only way anything will work is in safe mode. I am no computer genious but I know the basics.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I just did my first computer build and seem to have a problem i think is a vista problem.

If I leave my computer on over night or for an extended period of time I can not open any program. I mean I will try to open internet explorer and nothing will happen, it does that will any program. I can't even restart the computer from vista, I need to manually shut her down since when i click on restart nothing happens. It just wont let me do anything but it's not frozen, i can move the mouse and select things like normal.

Once I reboot though everything is fine till the next time it sits over night.

What could the problem be?

I visited a site that gave me a virus before. I had just installed avast antivirus and wanted to see if it worked bad idea. When at this site a small java window opened and the laptop shut down. No programs would respond explorer 64 bit was the only program that would run but adobe flash player would not. I reset the system to the day before the problem arose but that did not work. Any ideas I'm pretty bad with computers.

A:programs wont open

Can you boot into safe mode? For that you need to tap F8 repeatedly at boot. Run avast in safe mode. If you have access to another computer, download freeware malwarebytes antimalware, then copy it to the infected computer's hard disk via a usb stick and run it, run in safe mode if you cant work at all in regular mode.

You can also try running an antivirus rescue disk. See here.

After computer sits for a while expecially overnight i have to reboot to get ANY programs to open. i have contacted Hp and they had me disable most processes and startups but it still does it. I have to click on reboot several times to get it to start. i have disabled the display and sleep shutdown to NEVER. I have upgrade my Nvidia drivers last night and still does it.
I use AVG virus scan and Pro version of Advanced System Care. I really dont like shutting down services as they were designed for a specific function. I have not disabled any microsoft services though.
I have only had this unit for about 6 months .

I wonder if the Windows 7 registry cleaner and repair in Advanced System Care might have broken something?

You'll need to download the file before you can open it.

If you can't download it from the link you provided, go to where the file itself is located, right click and select Save As or Save Link As and download it to your PC.

Hi I am new to this site but was wondering if you could help.
A few days ago Firefox and IE started closing before they started up and it said it was because of dep. I eventually turned off dep completely but they still wont work, only difference is it doesn't say dep closed it. I made the mistake a few days before that of defragmenting my registry but have reversed it since then thinking it was the problem.

Thank you for the assistance, and I am using chrome to type this, installed it after they crashed.

A:Firefox and IE wont open

My first thought when I read this first post was, "What the heck is dep". So I Googled it and found this in Wikipedia. I can't provide an answer to the posters question, but thought this might be helpful.

EDIT: The "Discussions" section of the Wikipedia article is also very interesting, especially regarding the accuracy of the article itself. I checked the status of DEP in my XP Home SP3 and found it default set to 'Turned on for essential Windows programs and services only". Prior to this I've never even heard of DEP.

Hello everyone, I'll explain my problem. About 2 days ago I started having trouble with my browsers. Neither would open and my linksys router started acting up and refused to work. I renamed firefox.exe to firefox3.exe and luckily I had another router, so I can post this message. I think I have a virus or malware or something and I can't find it at all. I've followed the directions in the NEW INSTRUCTIONS post to the best of my ability. I tried scanning with the GMER Rootkit Scanner, but it would crash my computer in any way I tried on the Instructions post. I do also have access to my Windows Vista install discs. Sorry for not being able to get the GMER scan, but it keeps crashing no matter what I do!

EDIT: I thought I might add, when I was having a problem with the linksys router when I did ipconfig it said "media disconnected". Strange! Maybe the router crapped out or the virus did something to it?

Thank you for your time, it is appreciated!

A:firefox wont open

Try running firefox(safe mode) [ff usually installs another start menu entry]
If not then navigate to the firefox folder and run firefox with the command line parameter "-safe-mode"... (if you need help on that post back and i will post instructions)...

If it works then i suggest taking a good look through plugins [they can be a big cause of ff crashes]... Though the error report mentions kernel32.dll and i'm unsure why that would cause an error(as it is the dll responsible for user-kernel stuff)...

p.s. you could try disable your firewall temporarily but i'm unsure if it would actually help in this situation

Hi all, I just built a new computer with an Intel DX58SO board and i7 cpu. Running Windows xp home. I can access all internet sites except AOL.COM. The main site will open and show that I have X amount of email, but when I click on the email icon, I get an error that says "You need IE 5 or later or Firefox3.0 or later".
I have the latest version of both browsers. The same message comes up in Firefox also. Is it a machine setting or possibly a router setting? My laptop with Vista is able to open these sites.

Thanks for your help

When i clicked on a link in my email box,Firefox wouldn't open.

A short box appeared on the screen saying Firefox is unable to open-
I could send in a report(which I did),then I pressed "try again".
But the same thing happens.

I did a system restore,but after running that-Firefox still didn't open.

Can anyone enlighten me on what could be the problem, but more importanly,
how do I get my Firefox back.

A:Firefox wont open

Try opening Firefox without addons by Clicking Start --> Programs --> Firefox (Safe Mode).

If it works, then disable all your add-ons and then turn them on one at a time to figure out which add-on caused the problem.

Good luck.

I was browsing the Internet and suddenly every window closed out on itself and a window for a fake antivirus scan came up. The fake antivirus isn't popping up anymore and I don't remember the name, but the logo looked very similar to Microsoft Security Essentials' shield logo. I couldn't open up ANY other file after that (not even MS Paint) and the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware wasn't opening. I kept getting a dialog box that said "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

After that, I switched to another account on the computer and I could open files again (except for any antimalware/antivirus programs), but any site on the Internet related to computer security were all redirected to advertisements.

When I first start the computer I have no problem opening any programs such as IE, Firefox, Norton Security. But as soon as I do something else on the computer such as play solitaire, use Word I then cannot open internet related programs such as IE, Firefox and Norton. The little rotating circle starts but then just quits and the programs will not open. AOL continues to operate with no problem. Also my computer will no longer shut down automatically, I have to hold the on/off button down for the computer to shut down. I also get messages when this happens that Windows Explorer is experiencing a problem and looking for a solution but nothing happens.
