Preferred Solution: Windows 8.1 expiring but won't accept product key?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HP DX2450 Microtower. This system comes with HP branded Windows XP install disk and a restore disk(among others). I wanted to perform a repair install on XP. Inserted the HP restore disk, system reported it sees a valid restore disk and ask for the Windows install disk. I put in the HP Windows XP disk, when it got to "install Windows" , I chose "repair an existing XP installation". When it finished installing, it ask for the product ID. I looked on the CD, in the i386 folder/unattend.txt, bottom line is the product ID. When I put in this key, it tells me it's not a valid key. Now I'm stuck. How can this not be a valid ID when it's on the same disk used to install Windows, and what can I do now?

Hi, I just got a ton of new parts in my pc (everything is new except the PSU, the HDD, and the video card). I upgraded to a 64-bit system, and bought a Windows XP x64 retail from my local Staples. Everything installed fine, until I got to the part where you define your locale, keyboard type, enter product key, etc. The part after setup has copied all of the files to the disk, its just finishing the installation. So when it asked for the product key I entered the one from the booklet that came in the box. It said: "The Product Id you entered is not valid.". So I typed it again, carefully checking each box to make sure I didn't enter it incorrectly. Then I pressed Next, and still the same error message. So I checked online and I saw a forum post on another website where someone had about the same problem, that said that the solution is to start the xp install disk again, go to the recovery console and execute the dskpart command. I did so, then proceeded to try reinstalling again, got to the same point and still the product key didn't work. I read somewhere that the product key and the product ID are two different things (from my understanding, one is the numbers that you use to prove you have genuine copy of windows and the other is the installations ID, that really has nothing to do with installing). The window specifically tells me to enter my product key, but the error says the product ID I entered is invalid. I can't afford to buy another key (I heard that Micros... Read more

A:[SOLVED] Fresh install of XP, won't accept product key.

It is easy to mistake a 6 for a G . . a 8 for a B . . I would go back and double check that the letters/numbers are being typed acurately.

Unless someone mess with the package, it would be almost impossible for the key not to match the install type.

Alright, apparently I've reached my quota on reinstalls for my legal version of XP. Basically I can't use the windowsupdate website, but I can still use the automatic updates. Is there anyway to sort this out? Only reason I ask is I'm still a student and can get a copy of XP Pro with SP2 for $67 and if I play my cards right I should be able to get a copy for even cheaper. I just have to pretend I'm a EE or Comp Sci major for awhile .

Let me know if anyone has run into this.

Hi When you say you did the upgrade, did you? OR did the Win 8.1 OS do it? A licence / activation is done automatically when the OS upgrades itself to W 10, the system / mother board is registered. If it is done manually then you will have to buy a licence I think. So a few more details please.

I have tried all suggestions from the Microsoft forum to no avail.

So everything went normal, it shows that my Windows is activated but when I type in the command menu "slmgr /xpr" it shows me that my Windows will expire on 12/31/2016

Any suggestion how to fix this?

Has Microsoft changed something in the latest April Windows Updates?
I create a default Windows 8 Enterprise VL image on my laptop in audit mode as I have always done previously.  Nothing has changed from my side.
When I install the image via WDS, everything installs fine.
When I use my WIM file to install via USB, it now comes up with:
The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.
right after selecting the install language.
I have checked EI.cfg and it is normal:
[EditionID]
Enterprise
[Channel]
Volume
[VL]
1
I then tried adding PID.TXT with my Enterprise KMS key and, rather than error it then prompts me for a product key.
Surely using the VL install media it should never ask for a product key.  It never has before. (And I've never had to before)
I prepped the image as normal using:
C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:C:\Windows\win8unattend.xml
Any ideas?  I can't but help thinking something has changed in the latest batch of Windows Updates.  It's quite frustrating as not all my machines are capable of PXE, so I have to use USB.
The reason I think it is a recent change, is if I do a default install and DO NOT do any Windows Updates, it all works fine.  Only when I install the latest WU does it start doing this.

A:[NEW] The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

OK, So I've fixed it now, but I will still like to know WHY this has changed.

If i do this to my WIM, it then installs from USB:

imagex /flags "Enterprise" /info c:\temp\WIM\ME\install.wim "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86" "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86"

I wonder because I use the WDS capture image if this has somehow changed recently.
Very annoying, but now at least I can install my custom image :)

So short story, I work at a college tech site that fixes student and faculty computers. A foreign exchange student from Japan with a Sony Vaio (most likely from Japan as well) managed to get a virus on his computer and he was blocked off our network. Our policy is that we wipe and reinstall the OS to ensure that the virus is gone. However, we didn't have any Windows 7 Home Prem media CDs so I downloaded a Win7 Home Prem 32bit iso off of MSDN and burnt it to disk. However, when entering the product key given on the bottom of the laptop(and I've checked 3 times now to make sure it's correct), I get a:

"Product key does not match the current Windows SKU" error.

Why is this happening? Do I need a certain burnt iso (from Sony in Japan?) because of the laptop's foreign origins or is something else causing the problem here?

A:Product Key Does Not Match Current Windows SKU (Foreign product key?)

Yes, you need a Japanese iso, they have regional editions.

A:Win XP Pro expiring?

I may be a moron in compters, but I think I know this one. Windows XP is installed with a special setting that once installed ona PC, it drops files to make sure you have to reinstall an OS with a different disk. Secondly, the OS has 30 days of trial time in which windows wants you to register with them and 'buy' the OS system. At the end of that 30 days, the OS will stop working and you'll be out on Windows XP.

I will not question whether this is legal or illegal. This comes from Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q328874

For non-corporate users there is this from my own experience: I have on occasion run into three or four customers who attempted what is known as casual piracy by installing his XP onto a second machine. I have had to get only one customer out of this mess (about two years ago or longer) but the workaround was easy. (By the time his grace period was up, he had installed many programs and didn't want to be forced to do it again.) We called Microsoft, gave them a credit card number and they worked us through some steps that fixed the problem.

We then rebooted and was asked for a valid key.

I do not remember the steps as it was quite some time back and I saw no reason to keep notes on it.

Microsoft asked no questions about why he attempted piracy. I think they are just happy to get the money.

For years I have been using OWA with various browsers (IE, Firefox, Mozilla) through an exchange server. All my systems are now running Windows XP. Without being aware of any changes on my end except the usual Windows updates (and being told by the administrators of the exchange email service that they had not made changes), I suddenly had the following problem:

Everytime I authenticate, I can read one message without problems. Then every other link I try to follow brings up a new reauthenticate menu and without reauthenticating I can't proceed. Once I reauthenticate, I can do one more thing and then the menu reappears. The exact error message just says the session has expired (even though only a second has gone by.)

I don't think it is a malware problem as I am behind both a software and hardware firewall and I am running Norton 360 software. Moreover, those settings have not been changed during the time everything was working fine and then it wasn't.

Problems occur in all browsers. The administrators running the exhcange server rebuilt my account and even gave me a new one. Problems still occur.

So, do I have to do a clean install and re-install all the software I have installed or is there another way?? Your help would be appreciated. Where can I look to show I have a pre-release version? I have never seen anything?? Thanks again.... Bob Bassman

Start>type winver. It will tell you what version you have. If you are running pre-release (win 7) either your system clock is way, way out of date, or it is a moded system. Pre-release (beta?) win 7 is at least a year expired.

Have you restored your computer from an image? Anything else "un-usual"?

I have been using Symantec (NIS & Norton 360) products for several years now. My current Norton 360 subscription will be expiring in the next couple weeks and I am considering going with either Kaspersky or NOD32 instead of renewing. The reason for this is that Norton 360, like previous versions of NIS, is a system hog and I've had a few issues with Norton 360 such as scheduled scans not running, had to reinstall 3 times in the past year, and a few other minor issues.

I am looking for software with better than average detection, containment, and deletion of malware, viruses, trojans, worms, rootkits, spyware, etc. The firewall is not a major concern for me because I will be setting up a previous system with Check Point R65 running on Splat. I want something that is not going to be as much of a system hog as Norton 360. Any advice or comments will be greatly appreciated.

I have found some decent reviews for NIS 2009...seems they have improved the amount of system resources it uses.

It appears that for some reason some of the computers in my network are not receiving the message to change their password when the time for it to expire is near. Usually is 14 days prior the password's expiration that this pop up shows up. I have look around but have found no real reason why they are not receiving the message. In some cases the password expires and they never saw the message.

Anybody has any idea, of why this is happening and how I could fix it? thanks.

A:Password expiring pop up not showing

update: I think this is related to the finger print recognition and the credential manager. anybody has any ideas?

I created a Windows To Go flash drive using 64-bit Windows 8.1. It boots and works perfectly except that I cannot activate it with the license key I got when I paid for Windows 8 last summer (I bought the digital download, ordered the
optional disc, and carefully recorded the license key Microsoft e-mailed me).
I noticed that the "build" of the Windows To Go flash drive states "Windows 8 PRO," not Windows 8 or 8.1. Did I screw up and not install the right version of Windows to the drive? Is Windows To Go only for the PRO version of Windows 8
and not the regular version? I only worked on this as an experiment to see if I could boot Windows 8 on our work PC's (which are sadly still running XP), and I am so close! Where did I go wrong?

A:Created a working Windows To Go flashdrive but it won't accept my paid-for Windows 8 license key

Hey guys! I recently heard about a program called ClockGen from the makers of CPUID. Basically, it lets you overclock the FSB from Windows, and, since CPUFSB won't work on my motherboard, I thought this was my chance to get into overclocking.

Well, I installed it, ran it, got my Athlon XP 2100 up to 2Ghz with no major tweaking. Needless to say, I was thrilled. So, I decided to go into the BIOS and make this a hard overclock so that I wouldnt have to run ClockGen at each boot to get my well-earned overclock . But, upon booting Windows with my FSB at 154 just like ClockGen did, all I saw was a quick flash of blue (think BSOD) and then a reboot. I even lowered the FSB to 140 and it did the same thing.

Does anyone know why Windows would accept a software overclock but not a BIOS overclock?

Thanks!

My daughter has asked me to look at her HP Laptop. She gave me the password but when I try to type it in it does not work. I've made sure that I don't have the CAPS lock on or that I misspelled the password (which I didn't in either case)

What can I do to fix this problem. I've looked at some password reset programs but am confused by them. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

2 days ago I upgraded my laptop from Vista to Windows 8, I didn't have the router network password handy so I skipped that. I set up a new Microsoft account because I didn't have one and I was able to use the laptop for a while. After shutting down for the night I was unable to get back in (it wouldn't accept my password). I reset the password and verified that the new password worked by signing into my MS account on another computer. I connected the laptop to my router with a cable but it still would not accept my MS password. Many hours later, I did manage to get in and thought the problem was resolved.

Today: still connected by cable, laptop won't accept the MS password.

If I ever get back in I'll set it up so that I don't need to go through an MS account but I need to get in first.

Any suggestions?

Just posted this and tried again and suddenly I can get in - very confusing

A:Windows 8 won't accept my password

Check your keyboard setting. I had set Canadian keyboard, then when you type @, it becomes " (but I didn't know because screen show only dots), that's why Windows 8 didn't accept my password.

You must boot the DVD and do a Clean Install, formatting before installing. You can't install from a booted 32 bit Windows system.

Just bought a new laptop Install seemed to be going well until I entered the wrong password for Wireless Network Chose to do a recovery to try to solve that issue. Upon restarting, my password was no longer accepted, although the password hint was still there. Not sure if the problem has to do with the fact that I performed a recovery, or because I somehow entered the wrong password twice during initial setup, or perhaps there's a finite number of password attempts that Windows 7 allows before it locks you out, because I've tried about 200 versions of my password Can anyone help?

Hi friends, I have this really annoying problem with IE 6.0. Lets say I'm on alibris.com(searchin for second hand books) and i do a search for "access 2002", I get a list of all the books that are for sale...no prob there. The problem is when i click on one of the books to read a review or whatever and then click back to my search results pages I always get the following error message:

Warning: Page has Expired The page you requested was created using information you submitted in a form. This page is no longer available. As a security precaution, Internet Explorer does not automatically resubmit your information for you.

To resubmit your information and view this Web page, click the Refresh button.

...I don't want to keep resubmitting my search just because I looked at one book. I think this must be something simple that I have to change under IE options but for the life of me I can't figure out what.

Thanks for any help
