Preferred Solution: Dell XPS L502X Genuine Battery

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The battery part# W3Y7C is a 6 cell battery designed for the XPS 502x.
However, the authenticity of the battery depends on the reseller you purchased the battery from. It could be a new battery or a refurbished. Only the reseller can furnish this detail.

A:I Purchased a Dell N5050 J1KND Battery . I needed to verify that is that battery Genuine Dell Inc. manufactured?

This is  not genuine.  The 9C5 would mean the battery was manufactured in March, 2009.  And Dell's labels don't have the date posted as 2017/07/27.

Does dell stoped  manufacturing the battery for this model.  I would prefer 2016  manufactured battery

The 502x supports both 6cell and 9cell batteries. Kindly find the specifications here - http://dell.to/2iVELAQ- see page# 98.
The 502x is considered obsolete and I am not sure if the batteries are available with Dell any longer.

I have a 2 month old XPS15 purchased form the Dell Outlet Store in the UK. I usually have it permanently plugged in, but recently used it on battery power for the first time. I noticed that the battery wasn't charging, and the indicator light at the front blinks alternately white and orange (one white then one orange)
After a bit of investigation I found the BIOS Battery settings saying that the battery was not a genuine Dell battery and therefore wouldn't charge. I have not changed the battery - the machine is exactly as supplied by Dell.
It now pops up a warning about the battery whenever I power on.
I tried upgrading the BIOS (from 1.1.3) but every time I tried it would fail.
Is it now standard practice for Dell to supply laptops without genuine Dell batteries?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Battery of type: RN873, Rating: 11.1V, Capacity 56Wh.

Currently this battery is not available in the market and whenever I purchase online for a battery of Inspiron 1525, I am getting battery of different type, Capacity 48Wh. Can you help me to get an genuine dell battery?

Please would appreciate your help. Thank you!

A:Need and genuine DELL 1525 BATTERY

For a genuine Dell battery you'll pay $80-100 -- consider carefully spending that on a system that has a resale value of between $50-75 on the used market (in other words, you'll be spending more on the battery than the system is worth).

My battery light is flashing four times orange then once white.  It's showing "54% available (plugged in, not charging)".  When I remove the power supply the light keeps flashing and the computer enters power save mode like normal.
I thought my issue was with the batter so I bought a new one.  I switched them out and the battery light stays solid white and shows "63% available (plugged in, charging), but I left it for four hours and didn't charge at all.  And on this battery whenever I remove the power supply the computer immediately dies.
What is my issue and how do I fix it?

My LCD has been having green lines across the upper left portion. It used to just a dot, but it expanded to about 6 inches now. I am planning to have the LCD replace but the only available LCD resolution near me is lower than 1980x1080. Can I have replace the LCD with a lower resolution? or is there still a way to fix the LCD?
Another, my speakers are broken already. Only the right front speaker is functioning. Is there a way to repair or replace the speakers?

A:Dell XPS L502X

Have you used an external monitor? Does the external monitor work fine?
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG

Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
Also, restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check if the lines are seen in BIOS as well.
You could fix a lower resolution than FHD and it should still work on the machine.
Run a custom test on the speakers through Support Assist - http://dell.to/1NEc1Y4
The speakers will be replaced as a set - left and right and if required the subwoofer ( if applicable).

Any standard 2.5" SATA SSD will work.  You may need a shim to install an SSD, as they're all 7 mm or slimmer, while your system is designed for a 9.5 mm hard drive.  Some drive kits come with these;  if yours doesn't, they're only a couple of dollars.

Hello everyone,I am aware of an ongoing issue with the webcam for the Dell XPS L502x models. Usually if the webcam malfunctions, a power cycle will typically do the trick to get the webcam to function. However, my issue is software/driver related.
One day, I left my laptop sitting on my desk, and Windows decides to install it's own generic webcam driver. By the time I got back the Windows generic driver was installed, not the Dell Quanta h.264 driver. Thus, I updated the driver to use the original driver. In the device manager, it states that the driver is working fine, but whenever I use Skype or Dell Webcam Central, it says there is a program that is using the webcam thus it cannot function. I doubled check for any processes and also use a program named "Process Explorer" and found nothing.
I also ran Malwarebytes, CCleaner to make sure there were no suspicious activity going and found nothing.
If anyone knows if there is a solution, that would be great.

I am the owner of an XPS 15, bought in December 2011, and I am at something of an impasse. For the last year I have been close to the end of my tether with this device. It started and continued with a weird audio/video freeze. At the beginning it was 10 minutes into any game, later that dropped to the start menu of even games from 1997. Performance was horrible and the machine was slow at even the most menial of tasks, like using the internet.
In response, I removed the Nvidia Geforce Experience and re-installed the original proprietary drivers for my GT 540m, I also cleaned the fan with a healthy blast of canned air and bought a notebook cooling stand which the machine now lives on. I also under-clocked the CPU to allow use of Turbo mode. With these measures, I can play games from around 2005 on middling settings. Compared to before, when I could run Skyrim on high, this is rather uninspiring.
The problem still occurs, but requires a little more time. What is intriguing however, is that when it does, the machine itself doesn't really feel all that hot, so I'm at a loss as to what the real issue could be. I'm aware that the relative age of the machine, along with the notoriously poor cooling efficiency of my particular model are definitely partly to blame, however I can't help but feel that there is something more that is holding the machine back.
I would appreciate any help that is offered, I'm rather desperate.
Many thanks

A:Dell XPS 15 L502X - Overheating?

I think I have similar problems, so posting the questions on this thread---hoping someone will respond :-)
My laptop was heating up a bit too much (temperature above 90’s in normal load, and sometimes shutting down after hitting 100C), so I finally decided to open up my Dell XPS 15 (L502X) and replace the thermal paste. I have few questions:
When I opened it up, apart from the thermal paste on the cpu (i7-2630QM) and gpu (Nvidia GT-540 2gb), there were several white pads, and one grey pad. The grey pad was above the motherboard HM67 chip. This is the first time I ever saw a heat sink with thermal pad needed to cool down the motherboard. Or am I missing something? And what are all these small white pads? They seem to be covering different chips on the motherboard. Does anyone know the width of these white pads, and grey pads? Are all of these thermal pads to conduct heat? Or some are meant to block heat? I think the white ones are meant to block heat, but I may be wrong.
Anyhow, after replacing the thermal paste (didn’t do anything with the pads, since I wasn’t expecting to see them anyway), the temperature of CPU and motherboard remains in 80’s C, and GPU in 70’s C under normal load (20 browser tabs, and some MS Office work alongside). So, although it is not in the dangerous zone (90s and above), it is still quite warm for not so intensive tasks. I have cleaned the heat sink, and fan etsc also. I also used good quality thermal paste (CoolerMaster... Read more

I was using my Dell XPS 15 l502x when it turned off (didn't shut down just turned off instantly) and now it won't power on.

Battery shows full power but i get nothing when pressing the power button and it has now been off for 1 hour.

I have tried battery in + AC, battery in alone, no battery + AC and none of it works.

When the AC power is connected the charging light does not come on either.

No indication as to what the issue is, it wasn't hot, there wasn't a burning smell, had only been on for ten minutes, had a full battery, was AC connected and the AC adaptor is fine (it has the normal blue glowing light).

Any help or advice is appreciated.

A:Dell xps 15 l502x won't turn on

I went to a local dealer. They serviced the laptop and it's now working fine :)
The issue was that the Nvidia chip became dry ( that's what they said ) and they had to recondition it. Cost me around 1000 INR ( around $17 ).
Hope this will be helpful for others.
Thank you :)

Okay, so I have a Dell XPS L502X system with 4 GB RAM, Windows 7 64 bit OS.
I've had Blue Screen issues for quite some time. Usually, the problem occurred once a month, when I'd close the lid of the laptop and the system automatically shut down... on restarting, it'd tell me that windows had shut down unexpectedly... I was told that my Synaptics touchpad driver was out of date and this is why this was happening. So I updated the driver yet the problem persisted... Did a system restore, yet it didn't stop.
Today, while the lid was open and it was charging there was a blue screen and it said:

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. if this screen appears again, follow these steps:

check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
if this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufactuers
for any window updates you might need.

if problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. if you
need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your compute,
press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

It was stuck on that screen so I had to restart, but as soon as I restarted, the blue screen appeared again, and again a third time on ... Read more

Hi there,
I have a 7 years old dell XPS L502x. it was a great laptop and it still works which, I guess, is pretty good for a laptop. But right now, it has become incredibly slow and is running quite hot. I have ran some hardware failure tests but nothing came up. Then I formatted the harddrive and installed a fresh windows but the system is still lagging. could it be that my laptop (or parts of it) is just dying? The battery is, that is for sure. it only charges till 50% or so.  maybe someone has some advice for me, like put it in the oven or freezer or install driver in a special order.
best regards,

This's what is happening to my lappy (L502x).

I have tried to:
- Uninstall audio drivers, then let Windows update automatically.
- Update to the latest Bios (A10).
- Upgrade Windows (from 7 to 10).
But all of that did not solve the problem. So I think this is a hardware issue.
My question is: Should the speakers, the subwoofer or both of them be repaired or replaced?

Good morning everybody.
I have a nasty problem with my Dell L502X. Some time ago I gave it to a technician to mount an SSD in place of the mechanic disk, and the problem began.
The laptop returned to me with the fan running nearly at full speed, and the led/buttons at the top, the ones near to the wifi leds not turning on, and not working at all.
We tried a lot of solutions:

Change the OS back to Windows 7 and BIOS flashing
Substitution of the fan
Substitution of the mother board

All of these did not solve the problem. What could be the solution? I'm thinking that the led bar (bettere: the little card that manages it) causes this issue, but how could it be possible? Any idea? I can't believe it's SSD's fault.

Just joined because I saw so many helpful posts from people in this community. I thought I might have some luck narrowing out a problem on my son's laptop. He has had it quite some time now (I wanna say 2.5-3 years) and it has always run well for him. Recently, he has been experiencing instant system shutdowns at completely random intervals. I have downloaded temperature reporting software to his system and watched it closely and it appears to have no bearing on when it decides to shut down. any thoughts ?

It is really difficult to have to depend on temperature reporting software for this type of problem. You could try to perform a "factory restore" before taking the laptop in for repair. The thermal pads or paste may need replacing

I've upgraded 8 systems to Windows 10. Seven of them Dell desktops and laptops. Some up to 6 years old. Some running Windows 7 Home or Pro, some running Windows 8.1 core.

Windows 7 and 8.1 drivers usually work in Windows 10. If there are any yellow flags in the Device Manager after installing Windows 10, loading a Windows 7 or 8.1 driver from the Dell drivers page for that model fixed it.

Hi guys,
So, My Dell XPS L502x's integrated webcam kept connecting and disconnecting as my slightly loose and unhinged monitor opened and closed. So, in order to prevent any problems, I disabled my webcam. I didn't realise it also disables mic and prevents an external mic from connecting either. Now, I can't access my webcam as it's not listed in Device Manager so I know it's disabled but I can't re-enable it again since it's not listed.I tried booting from BIOS but I'm not sure there was a webcam option (maybe I wasn't looking in the right place?)I'm thinking it's a connection problem so I was thinking of taking the bezel off to make sure everything is okay.I wanted to know whether it's necessary to go through the entire process of disconnecting the back and taking out the I/O devices etc? Can't I just remove the battery and remove the bezel? Thanks!

A:dell L502x webcam problem

Does the webcam show up under Imaging devices in device manager? If it does not, then the hardware itself is not being detected.
You have mentioned that the display is loose. I would suspect the webcam cable might be loose and hence it is not being detected.
Swivel the LCD and check if the webcam gets detected.
The mic and camera are part of the same assembly module.
If the bezel is loose, then I would not suggest you to open the chassis as the display could come loose. You might end up replacing the entire LCD assembly.
If you are new to opening the chassis, I recommend visiting a local tech to get it checked.
If you are comfortable in opening the chassis - download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2bdUZiR and reseat the webcam cable and check.

Hi, this is my first post on these forums so please excuse me if I make a mistake :)

The other day, my computer seemed to stop charging, and I couldn't turn it on after it died. Now I have (with a screwdriver) pushed out the Power input Jack as I found it was to far in. The computer now accepts the power adapter to keep the battery on 0%, and not charge it.
The Error received is something like 'The AC Power adapter cannot be determined'
I've had the computer for a year and a half, and thus the warranty has ended. I really don't want to spend much money because honestly I have none. I don't know much about computer hardware, so if you can please try to use non-technical terms :)

Thanks in Advance,

A:Dell XPS L502x --- Plugged in, not charging (0%)

Hi Cormac,
Please check if the charging port on the laptop is loose. Connect an alternate AC Adapter to see if that works fine with the system. Alternatively, try the steps mentioned below:
*Check the AC Adapter in BIOS; check the ‘AC Adapter type’ status if it shows ‘Unknown/  Not Detected / 65W / 90W / 130W'.*If you get the status as 'Unknown / Not Detected' then reset BIOS to defaults:

Restart the computer, tap 'F2' key on Dell logo 4-5 times
This will take you to the main screen of BIOS
Press ‘F9’ key once, highlight ‘Yes’, press ‘Enter’
Press ‘F10’ key once, highlight ‘Yes’, press ‘Enter’

Also, check the Battery Health Meter:

Right click on the battery icon on the taskbar
Choose ‘Dell Health Meter’
Click on ‘Battery Health’ tab
Examine the information shown in the window

Please reply if you have any questions.

I recently bought a dell XPS L502x, I also had the same problem with the fan speeding up to full speed for a few seconds, then off again, then on again, then off again. I am using windows 7 home premium. This is only a issue on Windows, Ubuntu seems to work without any problems.
I have figured out a simple fix, seems to have worked so far and my fan just stays on at a slower constant speed. My CPU temps have stayed constant and within range.
1. Click the `charging` icon in your taskbar (By the clock) [The little power plug]
2. Click on `more power options`
3. Under the power setting you are using (Balanced in my case), click on `Change plan settings`.
4. On the change plan settings screen, click `Change advanced power settings`
5. Scroll down to `Processor Power Management` > `System Cooling Policy` (Expand them both to view the options).
6. Under `System Cooling Policy` > Change `On Battery` & `Plugged In` to `Passive`.
and... Tada!....The settings should take effect immediately, if they don't, a reboot should do it.
That's It! The constant fan ramping up and down will be fixed, and will just stay at a constant speed now!!
Hope this helps someone, cos it dam well annoyed me, I mean I bought a £750 laptop, Dell could have at least configured it properly to reduce wear and tear on the laptop.

My hard drive died in my XPS L502x. So i put a new SSD in. However, i accidentally unplugged most of my WLAN cables. For some reason my laptop has two cards in this area an loads of wires (the other card is by AVer Media), all of the online tutorials have one card and two wires. Because of this i do not know how to reconfigure this area and get wifi back on my computer.
I can post pictures if need be.

I have XPS L502X and I have only 1 USB working, no other one, HDMI not working and  the SD card reader not working too.
And my keyboard is also missy..
I tried to find a new motherboard replacement but I couldn't find one with everything already installed with it - I mean the USBs, HDMI, and the card reader - to buy.
And a new keyboard with Arabic letters on it.
Anyone could help me with this?

A:Dell XPS L502X Full Motherboard

This system is now old enough that rather than replace the mainboard, you may want to consider either buying a complete used system (perhaps newer than this one) or a new system altogether.  If you add the cost of a mainboard and keyboard alone, you'll likely find it approaches or exceeds the cost of a complete, used system.
A board + keyboard will run you $200-300 depending on the video type -- complete used systems for this model run $250-350 depending on condition and configuration -- and newer systems not much more.

Hi everyone,I have problems with my old dell l502x.  It worked fine for 5 years until it started shutting down and freezing randomly. After reboot it beeps 4 times. I know that is Memory Error, but memory seems to be fine( Tested with memtest). After that it refuses to boot. To start it I have to press FN+F2 and it boots normally. My question is what can cause this problem and what does the FN+F2 combination do while booting?Thank you for helping,

I've been reading a lot that this laptop is prone to overheating and fan issues. I think I have the same problem, but it is more complicated for me, as I run Ubuntu 13.04 and not Windows, so pretty much no support for Graphics from Dell or NvIdia (I had issues installing the drivers). Anyway, my laptop isn't under much load, RAM usage down to minimum and same goes for CPU. My fan keeps running at an extremely high speed, but to no avail. I can monitor that my CPU is running at close to 100 C which is pretty crazy for me. The other thing is that I am living in Germany and not in the US (don't speak much German). In this case, what sort of action would you be suggesting to me?One additional thing, my laptop is no longer under warranty (it's now close to 2 years old), though it always had these fan issues which became worse in recent days.

A:Dell XPS 15 L502X Overheating issue

I have similar problems with my laptop, so posting here on your thread...hoping that someone will respond..:-)
I also used good quality thermal paste... Read more

HI All,
I have Dell XPS L502X laptop purchased in Oct 11 which came pre-installed with Win7. Last year i upgraded it to Win 8.1 Pro OS.
Post that, I'm having issues with the JBL system. Thoguh the Front speakers are working perfectly, the JBL subwoofer on the back are not working. I have installed the Realtek HD Audio driver (with Waves Maxxaudio) but couldn't get the Soundblaster driver for Win 8.1 for this model.

Hello. If the woofer worked for a while after installing Win8.1, but then stopped working, it could be hardware failure. The woofer was prone to failure on that model. The solution would be to replace the woofer.
If it never worked at all after installing Win8.1, it could be a driver issue. Dell supported Win7 and 8 on the XPS L502x, but not Win8.1. It might help to install the Win8 Realtek audio driver in compatibility mode. First remove the current Realtek driver and delete its files from the hard drive, then
1. Download and save the driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.  2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win8.

I am in process of upgrading my system to latest specification, whichever it can support. I wish to add a network adapter which supports 802.11ac. What is the best possible network adapter card that I can fit to this over 4 year old system?
I found about Intel AC 7260 card series while searching in google. But I did not find any particular model discussed anywhere.
Would someone please mention the model numbers for this or other card series launched after this series, which might be compatible with L502X chipset.

I have a dell xps 15 L502X laptop. I have mostly upgraded the hard drive, network card, RAM. This works fine for me even after 6 years. I wish to improve its audio quality now. If that works out fine, I can delay buying another laptop for at least 2-3 years.
What I was thinking was buying a USB DAC/ USB sound card to improve the audio. Or would it be better if I buy some audio enhancing software like DFX. I already bought Creative Sound Blaster XFi software, but its useless. It does enhance the sound but it has lots of issues with windows. Mostly it stops working with windows audio controls.
So, I am not looking towards USB DAC/ USB sound card as the solution. Would it be a better option? What are the best ones in budget of $75? I am looking for option available in India, but I am open to purchasing internationally also if there is some good options available.

Improve the sound of the laptop's own internal speakers, or external? If external, what is your setup -- stereo hi fi, powered speakers, surround sound system, or what?

I had been using my DVD/Bluray drive but after a reinstall of windows 7 I am not able to access the DVD / Bluray drive. or rather I am able to access it after re-installing the driver and then after I take out the disk in the drive again the drive becomes unrecongnizeable
I reinstalled the firmware PLDS DS-6E2SH 12.7 Tray BD-Combo Firmware Update(SE2_CD11.zip ) from Dell support site but this did not help.
The only way I can get it to work is by uninstalling the device, rebooting and when it starts up again, it reinstalls the driver and the drive works. A thing to note is that this also does not work everytime.
I spent 2 hrs with tech support but they were not able to fix it. Wondering if there is anyone who can help

I have a Dell XPS L502x with the Nvidia Geforce GT 540M.  I first noticed an issue when installed windows 10. After reading through the internet i came to conclusion that windows 10 was the culprit so it downgraded to windows 7 which it was before. But still I have noticed that the Device Manager shows the yellow triangle for my Nvidia Geforce GT 540M.
It shows Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) as the device status.   I have tried multiple versions of the driver both from Dell and Nvidia.  Nothing makes the video card work.
I am not a novice but cannot find any solutions to the issue.  I have used the Nvidia drivers and done a clean install of the newer drivers.  I have tried uninstalling the hardware and installing again.  I have tried to use the Nvidia control panel but it will not start because there is no display attached to the graphics card.
If anyone has any experience with this issue, the help would be appreciated.

Hi there.
I have a problem. Currently I am using a 7200 rpm hard drive and I recently bought a SSD. I want to install windows into the SSD but before I do that I read that I have to remove the original HDD during installation. However, there is a stripped screw stopping me from removing the HDD. What are some options for me?

So I my XPS came with Windows 7 pre-installed as per usual, however, my sister had recently purchased Windows 8 pro and gave it to me. I upgraded, willing to try it out, however, I was not told that she had already used the product key to activate it so I am stuck with an inactive Windows 8. I am trying to do a factory image restore but none of the options I have looked up are options available to me.
Like I said I am currently running windows 8 but want to run a Dell Factory Image Restore so it reverts back to its original Windows 7 OS. I have followed the instructions in my XPS setup guide, ran it and nothing finding out later that since its windows 8 it does not apply. I have tried the windows 8 reset but it does not work. I have run the same process for windows 8, but my laptop does not have the backup and recovery option, it still runs the dell datasafe local backup, which also does not allow me to run a factory image restore for some reason. Can someone help me PLEASE!!! This is frustrating beyond belief. Just want to go back to windows 7 but the factory image restore is not showing up as an option. How do I get there? and How do I revert back to Windows 7?

A:XPS L502X help for Dell Factory Image Restore

You will need to clean install. Dell Backup and Recovery/Dell DataSafe usually don't work after system partitions are changed or an OS has been manually installed/upgraded.
If you don't have a Dell Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD use a Digital River .iso and the Activation Backup and Recovery Program:
For full installation instructions see my Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean install of Windows 7:
