Lenovo G510 - BIOS recovery

Q: Lenovo G510 - BIOS recovery

Right after re-installing Windows 8 on a Lenovo G510, I updated the BIOS to version 79CN50WW (V3.09) with the file which is available on this website. Unfortunately, the update crashed right in the middle of the process and leaves me with a broken BIOS. After booting the notebook, I get the following messages: lenovo logo"EFI Nentwork 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)" with an [OK]-Button. If I hit OK, I'll get..."No bootable device -- Please restart system"If I restart the system, I'll see the following messages: lenovo logo"EFI Nentwork 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)" with an [OK]-Button. If I hit OK, I'll get..."Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed.Insert Recovery Media and Hit any keyThen Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media"If I hit [OK] again, the Boot Manager shows up with a list which has two entries which are:EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)Whatever option I choose from these both, nothing changes. How can I recover the (previous) BIOS or get the notebook to work again properly?

Preferred Solution: Lenovo G510 - BIOS recovery

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi avraham123 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This is the main guideline  (click highlighted link for full article) regarding corrupted partition.

If the Hidden Partition is destroyed:
If the hidden partition is destroyed or replaced hard drive, you won't be able to restore the system through Lenovo OneKey Recovery software. You need to utilize the Recovery DVD, read more from below related articles:How to recover the system to Factory settings with Recovery DiscsHow can I get a system recovery CD, DVD or USB from Lenovo
Note:
If you accidentally uninstall OneKey Recovery, you may go to D drive. Find the folder named as Drivers. Open it to find out OneKey_Recovery folder --> find setup.exe. Click on it and follow the on-screen instructions. OneKey Recovery will be reinstalled.
If you are unable to reinstall OneKey Recovery, you are recommended to contact local service provider or read How can I get a system recovery CD, DVD or USB from Lenovo for more information to get recovery media

As discussed here are suggested steps that you can also try if repair failed .
1) Make sure that recovery partition is there or not. As I said, go to Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Disk Management and check.
2) Second, When the laptop is shutdown, try pressing the NOVO button and see if the laptop starts in the recovery mode.
3) You can try to restore the laptop from you... Read more

Hello all, this is my first post here so apologies if it is in the wrong category.

I have been trying to repair a laptop for my friend that cannot boot up to windows. It is constantly going to Startup repair and whenever I try repairing windows with USB it always fails.

Now I am trying to access the bios to change the boot device to the USB drive so I can do a fresh install of windows.
Here's my issue, the laptop will always go into the startup repair mode without giving me the option to enter the bios.

Will removing the cmos battery resolve this? ( I want to avid this option as it means opening the laptop, since it is not my laptop. I may find it difficult even locating the cmos battery)

Any other ideas how I can access the bios?

- Edit -

The laptop is running windows 8.1 x64

hi izadfard

Welcome to the Forums.

If you didn't create a recovery drive (using this method) then I recommend you contact lenovo on how to obtain a copy of the recovery disc which restores the preloaded Win8 OS, drivers, and apps.

Alternatively, if the machine came preloaded Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, you can try the following:

For Windows 8:
1. Obtain a Windows 8 installation disc and use it to reinstall Windows (if the system is preloaded with Windows 8, the installation will automatically detect the Win8 product key in the UEFI Firmware / BIOS and will automatically activate Windows).
2. From here, you can obtain the drivers from the G510 drivers page and/or upgrade to Windows 8.1 via the Windows Store (see this guide)

For Windows 8.1:
1. Check this guide on how to obtain a Windows 8.1 ISO (see Option One)
2. When finished, follow this guide to make a bootable UEFI Win8.1 installer via DVD or USB flashdrive and use it to install Windows (the installation should be able to detect the Windows 8.1 product key in the UEFI firmware that will let you activate Windows).
3. If successful, obtain the drivers from the G510 drivers page

So I tried updating the BIOS on my Lenovo M92p desktop using Lenovo System Update program. Unfortunately, it didnt work and i ended up with a blank screen. I waited for about 10 minutes and still nothing happened. I decided to hold the power button and had it shut off. After multiple power ons, still no POST. I read the HMM and the section about BIOS boot block recovery. It said I needed to burn an iso file to a CD and also move the CMOS jumper to pins 2 & 3. Since I dont have a cd, I put the bios flash package on a usb drive instead, plugged it into pc, and also moved CMOS jumper to 2 & 3. Computer turns on and there are two beeps. No display. Does this mean I will have to get a CD?

Hey guys, so I've gotten myself in a bit of a pickle. Ok, long story short, the hard drive in my Lenovo Y50 crashed and started doing the click of death.  Fed up with dealing with Western Digital, I said "screw it" and drove to the nearest computer store and bought a Kingston 480GB SSD (Which I am LOVING so far). However, because the size of the drive was smaller, my recovery USB refused to restore the operating system, so I had to borrow my friends computer, download the media creation tool and do a clean install of Windows 10 that way. Everything was totally fine, then I remembered I had forgotten something really important. Every single back up I've ever done was with Lenovo Onekey Recovery. A program that I did not have anymore. So obviously my next course of action was to get a recovery key from Lenovo. I called the number, explained the situation, and they sent me the key that I got in the mail today. I plugged it in expecting the rest of the road to be filled with puppies and rainbows... but it's not looking that way. Going into BIOS, it does not see the Lenovo Recovery key as a boot option. I've since made my own clean windows 10 recovery drive than can be booted into fine, but it doesnt recognize the lenovo drive as a bootable UEFI device either. Furthermore, it doesn't matter if I set BIOS to UEFI or Legacy Support... it still doesn't recognize the drive either way. The guy on the phone told me he'd have to send me a windows 8.1 key, si... How did you do system recovery ?
Was is just a system restore or a full factory system recovery using the novo button from initial back up ?
Was there any yellow marks on device manager ?
Any blinking link lights on the port connection of the cable when plugged in?

Hi Midohert,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not powering on in your Lenovo G510 laptop.

Try connecting different adapter and battery if available, also check this battery and adapter in other system and check for the issue, if still the issue persists in other battery and adapter, then it might be issue with the motherboard. Please visit the nearest service center for further details.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

A:Lenovo G510 with Samsung 850 Pro SSD

Hi ElMeSaFeR,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Samsung 850 Pro specifications matches and should work. Since this is a third party option we just cannnot guarantee 100 % functionality. I am also not able to get any confirmed upgrade from fellow members that done it similar to this discussion.

As always advised during upgrade, when buying 3rd party parts to always check the return options just in case. The linked post would also provide you further reference about the issue.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Hello, Since two months or so I can't use my Lenovo G510 properly, because it keeps crashing and acting strange. I updated the drivers as far as I know and the harddrive scan told me theres nothing wrong with my system. I did a virus check and couldn't find anything. I get blue screens with a diversity of errors, the system sometimes deletes my games, programs or bootes in some sort of "safe mode" in which my laptop looks like it has been taken back to the fabric configuration and has deleted everything (after restarting it's back to my current desktop , and I get all my programs and files back like nothing happened), and there are times in which my system won't boot at all. I start, it loads 5 seconds and turns off. I am clueless and at the point of throwing the thing through the window. I really hope someone here can tell me what might be wrong and what to do to fix this problem. I made some photos of the crashes and put one of them in here so you can see what those errors are. It's dutch, I'm sorry for that but the text says: "There's a problem with this computer and it has to be rebooted. Errordata will be collected, then the computer will be restarted." Sincerely,Graciousgirl.

A:Adding SSD Hard in Lenovo G510

hi shanalikhan,

Looking at the bottom, the G510 only has one HDD bay.
 - Link to picture

In this case, it's still possible to add an SSD using the following options:

Option 1:
- Remove the stock 1TB HDD and replace it with an SSD
- Use a 2.5" USB SATA Enclosure to convert the 1T HDD into an external drive.
- To install Windows on the SSD, you can either clean install a retail copy or migrate the OS from the HDD to the SSD.

Guides:
- OS Migration (using Paragon Backup & Recovery Home)
- Disk Cloning (using Macrium Reflect)

Option 2:
- Remove the ODD and replace it with an HDD caddy. From this thread, there are users who have successfully done this procedure. The HDD caddy that was used is this item.
- To install the OS, you can follow the same guide above to either migrate or clone HDD to the SSD and make the SSD as the boot drive.

Regards

I almost never shut my laptop down completely. Instead, I set my laptop up to sleep while not in use. Recently, there have been several occasions when I would attempt to wake it up and the webcam light and the lights on the front of the laptop come on, but the screen would not. In these instances, I would push the power button to put the laptop back to sleep, close the laptop, reopen it, and hit the power button to wake it up again. Most times, the screen would come back on, however, more recently I would have to repeat these steps multiple times before the screen would come back on. Now, the screen won't come on at all, no matter how many times I turn it off completely and retry. You might note that the external HDMI connection DOES still work and everything seems to work fine through an external monitor (just not my laptop screen), so I am wondering if this means that the screen has gone bad and if this means the gpu is okay. After poking around on these forums, I attempted severaI fixes, but none seem to have worked. I shined a flashlight (or "torch" for europeans..) at an angle to see if the screen is just extremely dimly lit, but I've verified that it is completely black with no activity there. I tried removing the battery, holding the power button for 20 seconds and rebooting--no dice. I even removed and reseated the RAM and checked the ribbon connection to the screen. I saw somewhere that I might need to reset the BIOS, however I can't seem to get to the BIOS usin... Read more
