Windows 8.1 activation failed, despite tech support aid.

Q: Windows 8.1 activation failed, despite tech support aid.

Windows 8.1 is asking to be reactivated, when product key and or activate online is issued, error message appears telling me the code is not valid. tech support has helped out in many ways, but no ways have fixed the issue. many cmd commands have been attempted
such as
elevator cmd promp~ attempted and failed
rearm cmd prompt~ attempted and failed
among multiple others.

i bought windows 8.1 pre installed on my pc from best buy, never had problems until affter windows 10 free upgrade, which i did not participate in getting. afterwards, i have been constantly asked to activate my windows 8.1, but with no luck does it allow
or accept my product key, despite it being a valid volume key according to the microsoft support team.
i have been a microsoft user for years now, i have invested and bought into many products. it is a shame that this is happening, but would be greatly appreciated if ANYONE can help me fix this problem before i am forced to change OS.

Preferred Solution: Windows 8.1 activation failed, despite tech support aid.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have several issues. Not all issues happen on demand, or neither do they occur in series. I hope someone can help.
1. It all started (I think) when I found win32.netsky.Q couple of weeks back and thought I was successful in removing that. But now my PC has more issues than when I this win32.netsky.Q popup started.
2. IE or Firefox will not load properly; if I somehow get them to load they will freeze the PC.
3. Google search links are re-directed, especially if the search is related to antivirus or spyware etc. I can search for SpyBot or tech support guys and it will give me the search result page. But the any links in the search page tell me I have internet connection problem.
4. I was using Firefox and it did the same thing, except I think the search page would redirect to some other page. I have uninstalled Firefox since and can not try the search page to tell for sure.
5. AVG update fails. It states “Update failed. The connection with the update server failed.” I cannot go to www.avg.com. IE states, “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
· You are not connected to the Internet
· The website is encountering problems.
· There might be a typing error in the address.”
6. I can go other websites like yahoo and check news and stuff, as long as it is not related to finding the root cause of my problem.
7. SpyBot fails to start. I can see the program in my task manager but that’s it. I had tried to rename the file and was successful once to ... Read more

Hi there,

I had bought upgrade licence for windows 8 Pro and used it in a machine while i was in USA. Then i moved to Australia and the Machine in USA was wiped and donated. I moved to Australia, bought another machine with windows 7 and tried to upgrade using purchased windows 8 licence (same licence keys that was used in USA) but windows was not activating.
So, i got in online chat with windows tech support guy who checked and verified purchased licence as valid. He said, he is located in Philippines and asked for remote access to my desktop. He played about 1 hr, he was trying to use the key that i purchased and was not able.
Finally he said, now your windows is activated and nothing to worry about.
I thought okay, good then.
Recently, i tried to upgrade to windows 8.1 and continually it says, i am not eligible. then i checked to windows activation and it appears that the Microsoft tech guys used some other keys than my own purchased key to activate and which says will expire in 30 days from today(expires on 09/11/2015). But apparently that expiry date keeps on changing as time passes by. Say, last moth i checked, it was saying will expire on 08/**/2015 (where ** is the date 30 days from checked date) and yesterday was saying will expire on 09/10/2015).
I dont know what kind of licence key he used.
When i checked the Windows activation, it says

Windows is activated.
Your windows licence will expire soon.

A:windows 8 activation issues, microsoft tech seems screwd it up.

The original windows licence is most likely still active on the original laptop you donated.
Wiping the hard drive and removing all data including the Operating System does not remove the activation key which is tied to the BIOS once installed.
Basically anyone can install Windows 8 on that laptop and it will automatically activate.

Over this past weekend I have been getting calls from "Windows Tech Support". The first time the tech said my computer was sending out warning messages to them. I asked him how it was doing that I cannot remember what he said he asked "you are using windows OS correct?"
I said so I use a Mac he hung up when I said that. I just laughed and let it past. A few hours they call back. They have called several times and today they call claiming they are "Dell tech support" I do have a Dell laptop (How they know that?) They said my Dell was sending them warnings
bla bla bla. I told them I was running Linux they hung up. I laughed again and let it pass. Then an hour later they call back. Frustrated I told them I was not home and asked if they could call back. I am waiting on them to call back. I have made a whole drive backup with True Image. I am going to let them log in and I will be watching what they do. I got a text document on my desktop named "credit card info" don't worry all that is in it is
idiot typed all over it. I cannot wait for them to call. I am going to be very careful with this. I will be watching to make sure they don't harm my system. I could set up a VM and do this but don't really have time.

A:Windows Tech Support

If you're not going to use a VM do NOT let them access the computer. I don't care how carefully you monitor them, they could still do something to a PC on your network.

I bought Windows 7 from Amazon.com and when I called up Microsoft for support they told me that they don't support open windows 7 what ever that means. So I paid the same price but no support because I didn't buy it from Microsoft. I'm just confused. Can someone explain this to me or was the tech person just full of crap?

A:No Tech Support for Windows 7?

Yes, MS supports any retail copy with the best funded Tech Support in the business.

I also bought Amazon (for the free shipping) pre-order Upgrade and have gotten MS support already.

They are required by policy to troubleshoot to completion any issue, even elevating to a research team that communicates with the developer teams, as long as customer is cooperative.

As with any tech support you may get a bad agent or someone having a bad day. I always politely hang up and call back.

In the past by being appreciative and eager to learn, I have gotten a full education in clean reinstalls w/o bloatware, virus hunting, optimization, etc. - worth far more than the price of the product.

Hi

I was recently duped and need to find out if my PC will have any issues as a result.

One of the programs on my computer crashed and I agreed to send in a Windows Error report. A few days after this (not sure if it was coincidental or not) I received a telephone call pertaining to be from Windows Technical Support. They told me I had a problem with my PC and gave me directions on how to access the event viewer. I did this and they showed me that there were a lot of "errors" within my PC.

They told me that they could help sort this out. They never asked for any money. They told me they needed access to my computer. They asked me to download a program AA-V3.exe from Ammyy. I did this but it would not let the person connect.

They then asked me to go to a website ShowMyPC. Which again I did believing they were from Windows. We connected through this site - the site said that it was connected anyway. The guy on the phone said that there was a problem and he couldn't access the PC - it must be running really slow. He then asked me for my passwords. At this point I was concerned and told him I did not believe he was from Windows and did not give him my passwords. I put the phone down and closed down the PC. Since then they have rung me back 10 times and I have put the phone straight down.

I have had remote access before for support reasons at work and during these sessions I have been able to see the cursor move. During my experience with the fake Windows Te... Read more

A:Windows Tech Support Scam

Hi:

Yes, it is a busy season for such scammers.
I got such a call on my mobile phone a week ago, spoofing a "legit" number in PA on caller ID.
I strung the caller along for a while.
He hung up when I volunteered to give him my credit card info so that he could "remote in" to fix my "viruses".

Anyway:
I hope you changed all your confidential info from a different, known-clean computer?

I keep receiving calls from fake MICROSOFT Tech support with various telephone numbers. Strange, they do not show up in my phone on line logs. They wanted me to go to FASTSUPPORT\763721586 ( do not use  these numbers). It is a company  called FASTSUPPORT.com. they also give you a complaint department where you can enter the number that you feel is causing you problems, the number of the LOGMEINRESCUE type remote access code. of course it is clear to them that you are suspicious and they will get rid of the  phone operator who didn't succeed. So do not bother to leave any complaint.

A:Windows 8 Internet Explorer Tech Support Needed

Did you have any luck resolving your IE problem yet?

If not:
1) Check in Event Viewer to see details about the IE errors. There should be some details in the Applications log.
2) If you are behind in your Windows Updates, manually visit Windows Updates & install any important, recommended, or critical updates. IE tends to get patched a lot.
3) Run some malware scans.

If the problem occurred suddenly after IE had worked fine for a long time, you can also consider using System Restore, choosing a restore point from before the IE errors. Programs added since the restore point might need to be reinstalled afterwards.

A:Beware this fake Windows BSOD from tech support scammers' malware

Microsoft has sounded the alarm over a fake installer for its Security Essentials, which attempts to trick victims into contacting bogus help centers.

Tech-support scammers have stepped up their technical game, prompting a "severe" warning from Microsoft over new Windows malware that mimics Microsoft's free Security Essentials antivirus, and then displays a fake blue screen of death, or BSoD, with an error message and a suggestion to call a 1800 number that is not a Microsoft support center.

"Real error messages from Microsoft do not include support contact details," Microsoft said on its Malware Protection Center blog, warning of the new threat. It also never asks for payment for delivering tech support.

I have recorded some videos on my EasyCap DC60 from my Xbox 360 gameplays, but when I upload the video into the movie maker for editing I don't get any images, I just get the sound, I don't knoe whats wrong. If theres help out there let me kno.

A:EasyCap DC60/Windows Movie Maker Tech Support Needed

If I had to guess, I'd think that it's a codec issue. Windows 8 doesn't support DVD playback in Windows Media Player ("out of the box" -- it has to be added), and likely some support is lacking for full Windows Movie Maker functionality as well. Microsoft did not include the codec support in Windows 8 at least partly because for each license of Windows 8, it had to pay a fee to include the codecs.

You can probably solve your issue either by installing a third-party DVD player (like the free VLC, or like a CyberLink program like PowerDVD), or a package of codecs. If you've purchased a DVD drive in the last year or two, it should have come with a third party optical recording program that should have all the necessary codecs included.

I find that cnet's download.com is my most trusted site for downloads, so that if you want to try the codec method, here's a link that might do --- Windows 8 Codecs - CNET Download.com
--- and if you want to try installing the free VLC player, here's a link for that --- VLC Media Player - CNET Download.com

Best of luck

I have a Thinkpad T450s and it is just over a year old. It still has 3 more years of warranty. Recently the lenovo solution center gave an critical error for the HDD (Read test failure) and I submitted an online request reporting it. Without even sending me an email or contacting me, they sent me a new part and gave me zero information about it. Apparently every other person can replace a HDD now! I have created 3 more cases calling their tech support to send the laptop for a depo repair. Everytime the request is rejected 'at the vendor' according to the customer care. Neither the customer care people or tech support can tell me why. Every time they create a new case, tell me I will receive a depo bag nect day, and I dont receive anything, have to call depo customer care and on hold for minimum 40 minutes, only to hear that the case has been rejected they dont know why.One tech support told me now I have to send the new part back before creating a new case, otherwise it will be rejected again. but he does not know how I can send the new part back. The return label sent to me was for the faulty HDD.Can anyone help? What is the point of paying for warranty if I receive this type of service?

You do not state which type of warranty you currently have, there are a few which will affect how TS will or can respond. I hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction...

XP Question

I noticed the other day when I was reading through the forum that there is a Windows 8 site. I checked it out and it is nice to see that when the betas come out people will be able to help each other there. I also have notice that there are some great people on this site and have resolved many problems with Windows 7.

My question is: Is there a sister site to this one for Windows XP? And do the same smart users here read and reply in it? I have a Windows XP problem that no one has been able to solve and I would like to post it in these forums and see if someone is smarter than Microsoft at resolving a problem. – Thanks in advance.

I am helping a friend with a nasty infection.  He received the phone calls from the scam MS support people claiming he had viruses.  Eventually he gave in and let them have control of his computer.  He cut them off before paying but not before they had control.  I took a look at his computer later and found no evidence that there was any lingering problem on his computer, so I assumed that it was just a Teamviewer type tool that they had him download that gave them access.  After removing and running a few malware removal/scanning tools, I pronounced him clean.

An hour later he called and said his computer spontaneously logged him out and put a password on his user profile.  the password hint is "Your computer is infected, call this phone number to unlock".  I went back to his place and bypassed the (very real) Windows password lock.  Scanned again, ran TDSSKiller and a few other malware removers again, but suspected that he MUST have done something because this was a clean computer.

Didn't have time to do anything else in the past couple days but went back over yesterday.  Spent an hour on the phone with the number that the scammer gave us, trying to figure out if they had a secret back door into the computer.  They did not, and kept trying to get me to install various teamviewer clones to which I gave them the wrong ID once installed, which totally threw them for a loop.  I never actually did allow them in... Well, I ran out of patience  I left the computer offline for 24 hours and the infection did not return.  I then connected it for another 24 and by the time I checked in, it had been locked down again.  So it'll be a mystery I'm afraid.

I have an Inspiron 3542 laptop that I just upgraded to Windows 10. The update completed but now the device is saying Windows 10 needs to be activated. The error message reads: "Activation failed because this device doesn't have a valid digital entitlement or product key. Error code: 0x803f7001". This is a Windows 7 Pro device purchased from Dell in 2014.  I tried calling the help line but they bumped me over to a fee for service help line because I am out of warranty.  If they sold me a device with an invalid key shouldn't that be on them to correct regardless?
Is there a simple fix to this.  It was activated and running fine before this upgrade attempt.  Should I just revert it to 7 Pro and leave it alone?

A:Windows 10 Activation failed

Al Owther,
Below is information to hopefully get your Windows 10 activated.
How to troubleshoot Product Activation in Windows 10:
This Activation Error Code 0x803F7001 in windows 10 is caused if you Clean install Windows 10 using flash drive. This Error may also occur if you update your BIOS.
Possibly there can also be issue with Microsoft activation Server and thus you are shown that your windows is not activated, In this case you can only wait and verify if it is the issue from Microsoft's side or the recent changes that you made to your PC.
You can try the steps below to activate by phone.

Step 1: Keep holding Windows key and Press R key to open up Run Command.

Step 2: Type Slui 4 in the Run Windows that pops up and hit Enter.

Step 3: Next you will require to Select your Country/Region, So do it and Click Next.

Step 4: You will be Presented with Toll Free number, Use your Phone now and dial the Number to get the Confirmation ID.

Step 5: Once you get the Confirmation ID numbers, Enter them in A to H Field Exactly the way they are Provided.

Step 6: Now Click on Activate, That's all !!!
Follow the Cycle Again:
In this method you will be required to follow the Cycle of Installing Windows 7/8 or 8.1 whichever OS you have with Product key. Then after its done, Download Windows Media Creation tool and Use "Upgrade this PC" Feature to Upgrade your PC from your Curre... Read more

Guys I need help.
My desktop pc (HP Touchsmart 300) broke down and the technician told me to change the disk. He changed the hard drive and installed again Win7 Home Premium. A fiew days ago, I did a clean Windows install, by downloading the .iso file file from the web (Microsoft's webpage I think). I burned it to a disk and I started the installation. When i asked for a Serial Number, I wrote the key, who was behind the pc. The setup continued, but when I entered the Windows desktop for first time, a message poped up saying "This version of windows is not genique"-something like that. I re-entered the serial but again nothing! What is wrong? Did the hard drive change affected my windows activation?

Thanks,
Dennis

I have T450 came with Windows 7 pro downgraded from Window 10 pro about 4 years before, and I cannot use either Win 10 or Win 7 with this machine anymore after formatting HDD. It was being used with factory installed Win 7pro for a while, then due to the virus related issue, I low level formatted the HDD this year. Since then I was trying to use the facory recovery USB key that came from Lenovo, but the recovery key from Lenovo was actually Win 10 pro instead of Win 7 pro; which was fine if I could activate the Win 10 licese properly.  After Win10 factory recovery was done with the USB key, the activation window says that "The product key used on this PC didn't work with this edition of Windows. You might need to get in touch with the store or company you bought Windows from, enter a different product key, or go to the Store to buy genuine Windows. Error code: 0xC004C060". I contacted Microsoft, and they traced the license key in the BIOS of the laptop, then told me that "The product key in your machine exceeded the maximum quantity of PC for activation. Please contact Lenovo to get proper license key." I contacted Lenovo support, but I could not get any help from the support except telling me that my laptop is now out of warranty. What should I do here? Should I purchase a new Win 10 licese again? Please help.

Activation key is embedded in the computer and you do not have access to it. Did you mistakenly enter a key? That is not necessary. The Activation will automatically scan the computer and read your embedded key. When reinstalling win 10 you skip the first question about a product key by choosing I don't have a key. Then activate after the reinstallation is finished.

I just built a news system and did a clean install of 8.1 Pro 64-bit. Activated it without problems and did a clone to file using Paragon. Copied the clone to multiple drives to use on the same computer, to keep gaming on a separate disk. Everything worked perfectly until this morning when windows says its not activated and key is in use on another computer. The key has been used, but I swapped out the motherboard, cpu and ram and did a fresh install. The activation work without a hitch, but now activation has failed. Its only been running a few days, but I've been able to swap drives without a hitch. Is it the fact that I use multiple disks on the same computer or is it the fact that I have previosly used this key on different hardware? The key is not installed on any other computer.

A:Windows 8.1 Activation failed on cloned drives

I believe that a new motherboard is seen as a different computer by Windows. If the Registration key has been used on another motherboard, it will say the activation is in use on another computer when the motherboard is changed.

If you have an OEM version of Windows (pre-installed by the PC manufacturer), a new motherboard is considered a new computer and you can't transfer the Registration key.

A retail version of Windows can be transferred, that's one reason it costs more. If you have a retail version of Windows, you have to call Microsoft to transfer the activation to the new motherboard.

Now,the "activate windows" watermark is showing up at the bottom of the screen.I did tried to activate windows but it failed with error 0xc004f074.I check this website's forum and someone suggested to activate the windows by inputting your windows 8.1 product key.I found it out by shadowkey plus. But the 0xc004f210 comes up "you are running windows 10.The product key you entered cannot be used to activate this edition".I am stuck here unable to rectify the activation situation.Someone please enlighten me here....
