Typing lag/delay mystery WTF?

Q: Typing lag/delay mystery WTF?

I recently purchased a Lenovo y50 with the following specs:
Intel Core i7-4720HQ 2.6 GHz Processor
256 GB Solid-State Drive
15.6-Inch Screen; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M Graphics; Intel HD Graphics 4600
Windows 8.1

Randomly while I use the laptop, I get an odd typing and deleting delay. When deleting a line of text, it goes realllllly slow. When I type quickly, there is a noticeable delay as well.

This lag doesnt happen always but once it starts, i usually have to restart my pc to get it to stop. Is there something wrong with the intel driver? or what i have no idea!!

Thank you for any insight/suggestions

Preferred Solution: Typing lag/delay mystery WTF?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Typing lag/delay mystery WTF?

Hi use Clean boot,
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
Click Start and type in the search box,
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
Repeat the screen shots,
See the links above my signature on how to take and upload screen shots here,

Using Vista Home Premium 32 bit on new Toshiba Laptop - P105-S6197, Core 2 Duo processor, T5200 1.60 GHz, 2048MB Memory Size. Has anybody experienced a typing delay from the time you type the words to the time it appears on the screen? This has occured on my new laptop. Never a problem on my 2 yr old Sony desktop (Windows XP Media Center) or Sony laptop (Windows 98SE).

A:Typing delay

No, but i can probably tell you that the problem is the 1.60GHz processor. You will probably need atleast 1.80GHz to 2.00GHz clock speed.

This happens quite often and usually a reboot fixes the problem but I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue.

Once my laptop has been running for a while (day or two) I will notice that when I am pounding away at the keyboard typing there will be a delay until the characters actually show up. Sometimes I am 8-10 characters ahead of what is being displayed on the screen. It makes it real hard to understand if I have typed the correct letter/characters sometimes. If I go to tap the Backspace key a few times to delete it's delayed as well.

When I reboot the problem is gone. Very strange problem and I am sure it's a bug or something that causes a memory leak of some sort somewhere. Call me crazy... LOL!

Anybody else experience this?

I'm curious as to whether yer keyboard is a USB one. Could be the USB port is underpowered or something. You could try plugging your keyboard into another port (if it is USB). Do not plug it into a USB hub. Try plugging it directly into one of the rear ports on your computer.

Hello everyone ! I have a slight problem with my wifes typing on web pages and that seems to be the only place it takes place does not happen in word or any other software installed just the world wide web. she is using IE 8 due to the fact she will not let me upgrade here system from XP so anyway whenever she starts hammering away over there in he corner the text input on the web page does not keep up with her input on the key board. She has to stop for 2 to 4 seconds and wait for her typing to appear on the screen . Have not had the chance to disable all add ons yet as she always seems to be there when I have a chance to work on her system. I have though run several virus scans and malware scans and so forth and so on but nothing really showing up to amount to anything. Everything goes in fine in word and whatever else she uses just seems to be the web . I hope I have been clear enough to explain the situation so if more info is needed I will do my best to offer and continue to research on.

I am a Wikpedia editor and about a year and a half ago I encountered a problem where when I type something in the edit box, it would take a second before the words actually appeared on the screen. This only happens in wikpedia. So I scanned with Malwarebytes and got a malware and quarantined it. After that the issue was gone. About a week ago the problem came back. But I don't know if it's malware again, because Malwarebytes and Avast couldn't catch it. Please help me get rid of this annoying problem.

Hi all -

What a pain! Recently I've started having a problem where each time I type a character there is a one second delay before it appears on my Yahoo Messenger window. Logging in and chatting takes forever.

I downloaded trillian and same problem.

I ran Spybot, Microsoft AntiSpyware, AdAware, HijackThis and tons of others. Cleaned up but to no avail. Here's my HijackThis log. Any advice?

I just got this HP Pavilion x360 (the convertible laptop/tablet) last week, and I've been having troubles with the keyboard. On certain websites, such as this one, there is no typing delay. However, on Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Word Online, the characters I'm typing DO NOT appear on the screen at the same time that I'm typing them. It either freezes for a second and then quickly inputs all of what I've typed, or it just takes a few seconds longer for each key I press to show up on the screen. I've checeked to make sure Filterkeys isn't enabled and that no extensions are running in the browser. This happens in both Microsoft Edge and Chrome. P.S. when I was registering for an HP support account, I just realized that the @ key and the " are switched. So shift+2 gives me an ", and shift+" gives me an @ sign. Please help! I really like the computer other than this horrible typing lag.

Hello there, this problem is not extremely important, so by all means, if someone else needs to be helped first, no problem.

When I open firefox 3 or the IE Explorer, and I procede to type in the search bar of any search engine or just the address bar there is a slight delay in when I type to when the typed shows up on the screen. Just wanted to know if there is any remedy to this situation.

Steps I have taken....

1. I have just rebounded from a devistating virus attack. Thanks to your forums and Simon I was able to get things cleaned up.

2. I am using clamwin as anti virus

3. I am always scanning my pc for malwar via spybot, ad aware and other such programs as well.

If you need a greater detail for what I have done in reguards to the virus there is probably a way you can link to my other posts in the other forum.

Let me know, and thanks again in advance.

Check task manager to see what % your CPU is running. You may have some malware or failty software that is occupying almost all the CPU time.

I have a laptop (attached to a server) that is being affected by mysterious typing and access of the pull-down menus - as if someone is accessing it remotely.

For example, I open up an email message, start typing, but then words I am not typing myself (that have nothing to do with my own message) start typing onto the screen.

The server has a firewall, and the laptop itself has MacAfee Firewwall installed. It is running Windows XP.

We have four laptops in the room. No other laptops are experiencing this problem.

There is no wireless access, expcept that the keyboards and mouses/mice are all wireless. But, the phantom text that appears is not related to anything anyone is typing on other laptops.

Our official tech support people have absolutely no idea why this is happening. Has anyone ever heard of this?

A:Mystery typing and access of pull down menus

Sounds spooky!

I have never heard of this but off the top of my head it sounds like a virus. What things does it type?

Things to try: (Apologies if they have already been done)

1. Update your virus tables and scan your pc. (also try a free scan from www.antivirus.com)
2. When the mystery typing starts etc check taskmanager for any "dodegy" looking processes.
3. Do you have pcanywhere on the pc? Are you sure someone is not playing a prank on you?

Thats all I can think of for now.
Will post again if anything comes up.

Very strange!
Good luck

So it may just be a coincidence. I just installed Windows 10 on my PC. And now when I try to type in yahoo mail it only lets me type one letter at a time. Then I get this twirling blue icon indicating it is working on adding that ONE letter to the message. I have never had this problem before.

Has anyone else had this problem. And if so, how might I get yahoo mail to accept letters typed as I type them?

When I restart or turn on my lap top after it's been off for a while it will only give me my background picture. No icons, no start menu at the bottom, nothing. Until I try to run a new task from the task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL is the only keystroke-type command I know) Then everything starts appearing as if nothing was wrong. When I type online there is a huge delay between when I push the buttons and when they appear on the screen. My virus scans show nothing is wrong. (I use trend-mirco's firewall and virus scanning products and also use firefox and I don't know if trend-micro only works on internet explorer or not...) I tried defragmenting to try and speed up the typing ting but it did no good... I don't know what is wrong but I do know that I can't get the updates from the updates.microsort.com website even though they are in the trusted websites thing in internet explorer (which is what I used to try and get the updates because you can't get them through firefox) and every time I open the computer (even from stand-by) I get a message from trend micro telling me it is stopping unauthorized changes and that change is some sort of "program Library Injection" that has to be blocked about a hundred times in a minute for the first 2 to 5 minutes of the computer being on. I don't know what is wrong but I do know that something is not right.

Hi all.

I come now with a new problem. I pretended for some time I did not care, but that is now making me pull the hair from my head.

I installed something (which I did not pay attention to at that time and I don't remember what it was) and too many other programs after that (programs I constantly use, and therefore I don't want to get rid of). If I roll back my computer to an earlier time to dismiss this problem, I would be uninstalling all those valuable programs I am talking about.

Since the first installation, when I select in excel (using the mouse), when I am typing in Word, Internet or whatever other program, things stop working. There is a delay in response. I type, but I don't see what is just typed on the screen, because the computer freezes undexpectedly, and then it comes with the whole thing at once. In the meantime, I could have made a mistake in typing, but because I couldn't see it right away on the screen, I cannot be sure if I made it, and have to wait until the computer 'defreezes' back and keeps working along.
The delay doesn't last too long, but it's frequent and recurrent. So it's always there. It is a pain in the neck, and I am being very decent to say it.

It is not the Ram, because I have plenty of it. It is not the speed of the chip, because my computer is not old. It is not a wrong installation of the programs I installed because everything works fine at the end. It is just that freaking delay that re... Read more

When I input something with my keyboard, the touchpad/trackpoint doesn't accept any clicking for about ~0.5 seconds. Its a small delay but it is driving me insane. T460 laptop, Synaptics Clickpad V1.1 Things I've tried:-  Reinstalling drivers, and restarting laptop. Nothing changed.-  Turned palm rejection to minimum. This fixes an earlier problem where the mouse would stop moving with keyboard presses, but it doesn't affect the clicking delay.-  Went into the registry editor, found 'synaptics' under 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' but couldn't find any variables that indicate a delay after keyboard presses. I'd really appreciate any help with this. ~3 hours of googling isn't helping me. Thanks in advance.

Title I wanted to use: Windows XP SP3: Slow Startup / Boot: Black Screen Delay & Delay after logging in

For some reason I can't preview my post when I use this title: I have tried removing all the punctuation, including the &, which doesn't work and have tried other titles with the same character length, which does work.

Problem Begins Here:

When I turn on or restart my computer, the boot up time from the time I press the power button to the time the final icon on my desktop loads is slow. I am not too concerned about the time after my desktop is shown since I have several items to run at startup.

The two areas of concern are:

1) After the XP logo is shown, my screen goes black. This lasts for about 17 to 19 seconds. I don't know when this started as I rarely restart my computer. The problem is worse if I startup in Safe Mode. It's about 1 minute and 10 seconds before I see anything on the screen, and another 40 seconds before something else is shown on screen. Note: In order to not to have to waste time pressing F8 and choosing Safe Mode, I enter safe mode by specifying so in msconfig. The options I chose were /SAFEBOOT and Minimal.

2) After I login, there is a delay of about 30 to 45 seconds before the desktop is shown. Windows stays at the login confirmation screen during that time. This I feel has happened recently.

Boot Time Results tested using a stopwatch:

Normal Boot (i.e. Not Safe Mode):

After the Windows 10 April 2018 update, my Lenovo Yoga 3 14 laptop is not starting immediately. It's not boot-up delay, it's a device start-up delay like after pressing the power button, just keyboard back light blinks once and nothing will happen and it's taking 35 to 40 seconds (earlier it's 1 to 3 seconds) after pressing the power button to show Lenovo UEFI screen along with Windows loading animation (this boot-up is quick like earlier versions about 5 to 7 seconds). Re-installed the complete OS (clean install) and re-installed the BIOS (Version BACNA0WW and BIOS date 07/15/2016). But nothing helps. Changed to earlier version of windows with clean install (the one with creators update, but issue not resolved.) Formatted complete drive and cleared all partitions (including OEM) and installed on a fresh partition, re-flashed BIOS, but nothing helps. Later I thought about hardware issue. Opened laptop, removed display connector, cleaned and attached, but issue not resolved. So, it's not a new Windows issue and It might be a problem with BIOS and it needs to be updated. Since my laptop is mote than 3 years old, Lenovo probably don't bother about updating this BIOS. Any solution that I missed? Thanks in advance.

I have had this problem for nearly a month. When I type anywhere in IE it does this: "the quick rownfx jumped overthe lazy dg". It works fine in Firefox (but I dont like it) and works fine in Notepad or Wordpad etc. Here is what I have done so far.

Replaced Keyboard. (Gates you owe me $15.)
Gone though the "Add-ons" one by one.
Uninstalled Google Earth.
Uninstalled Itunes.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with Microsoft Tech Support.
They had me turning things on and off and still no solution. (I had plans to go see Jeff Dunham so I had to go. He was great BTW.)

Everything I have searched for has never had a solution.

Hi all,
Very strange problem with my IE7 on Win XP system (Fujitsu Siemens laptop Xi1546 btw).

Basically, so far ive only noticed it on those 2 sites but essentially the problem is, certain links on the site, when clicked, do nothing.
Youtube for e.g. the videos always have a 10 minute delay before they load. Regardless of time of day, whether im using GB youtube servers, or the kind of video, OR even if i change go home and use my home internet, same problem: 10 minute delay before the video loads. This must mean a setting which has gone awry? Metacafe works fine and it also uses Shockwave so why does my laptop hate youtube?
Also if i click to change servers on youtube, e.g. choose youtube UK, IE just 'loads' the page but stays stuck. Other websites work fine so its not a temporary lack of internet thats causing this.

Facebook is really bad and has the same 'loading but stuck problem.' I post messages on walls and it stays stuck but if i click profile, that loads instantly and it says ive posted..? I cant goto the groups page, or events, it just stays stuck and wont load. ive had this problem for about a couple of months..

overall i think its a setting for my IE, but what do you think? really appreciate help, really fed up.

Dear Luna333,
Welcome! Sorry for the delay. Are you using a mouse OR the Touch pad(laptop). A moving cursor is quite common for laptops. I guess there is a way to disable the touch pad and allow use of the mouse.

I have tried to fix this but to no avail. This is a list of what I have tried (I probably forgot a few things):

- run IE9 with no add-ons
- run IE9 in 64bit mode
- tried the above 2 in safe mode
- deleted the registry keys corresponding to Spybot, even though it's not installed
- uninstalled and reinstalled IE9
- "regsvr32 actxprxy.dll" in an admin cmd
- reset to default settings in the advanced tab
- tried with GPU rendering on and off
- ran Malwarebytes and found nothing

I have a Q9400, 8GB RAM, Radeon 6850, and a SSD for my W7x64 Ultimate; so my computer is blistering fast. Any more ideas? Thanks

( Although in Windows Task Manager in either situation under "Applications" the programs are listed as "running" and not "not responding". Nevertheless the only way to stop it is to "end process" with Task Manager. )

THERE IS NO ERROR MESSAGE! The programs seem to start normally but just freeze after a second or two.

I am completely mystified. I know DVDs could be played in all three applications as recently as last week, when I tested a DVD I bought myself for Christmas. Except for some basic maintenance ( spyware sweep, disk cleanup, changing themes etc...) I have not made any major changes to my computer. I cannot imagine what the problem could be.

I have already tried the following: Reinstalling Windows Media Player. Reinstalling Windows Media Player codecs. Installing and uninstalling third party DVD codecs; Nvidia Video Pack, Cinepak.... all without a positive result. Besides, obviously I have a working codec because PowerDVD still works and in fact all three applicat... Read more

My son had a new hard drive installed in his Acer laptop, along with the factory XP disks, now I can access Internet Explorer on an ethenet cable, but not on wireless. Yes, I have installed a new wireless USB adaptor, and I tried a PCM wireless adaptor. All the updates have been downloaded and installed from Microsoft.
Anybody have any ideas?

Sometimes you have to disable the hard wired connection so that the wireless will work.

When you go to the networking area, you'll see two connections.

howdy folks,

i've been getting persistent disk (event 11) and atapi (event 15) errors in my system log. the reccommended fix (a la MS) for the 11 was a replacement IDE cable, which seemed to do the trick at first: now after about 10 days, the errors are occurring again but at a much less pronounced frequency in the syslog. i've been thru multiple virus checks, reformats, and OS reinstalls to no effect.

anyone got a clue?

Q: Mystery

Any help would be deeply appreciated. Using Vista and Windows Mail. Connect to the internet via WiFi. First indication of a problem - no Window updates. Finally after hours of phone tech help, I discovered that if I used a landline I could get the updates. WiFi now acknowledges they have a problem. Here is the latest problem. My email is thru Peoplepc. I find that using Windows Mail and the WiFi that when I send an email to friends with Peoplepc also that they don't receive it. Tried sending myself an email. Did not receive. My emails to people with Juno, AOL, etc are all received - just not Peoplepc. So again I tried a landline and I was able to send/receive my own email. Is it possible for WiFi to be blocking only emails to Peoplepc members? I did go to Peoplepc's web mail and was able to send and receive to Peoplepc members.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a fix. I've been in contact with the WiFi outfit as well as Peoplepc. Peoplepc can't solve; still waiting for WiFi to help solve.

Who changed my profile? I logged on a few minutes ago to find that someone had changed my status in my profile and added a rather odd-looking avatar. I've since corrected these things, but come on guys, what's the deal?

Is this a penalty for something...did I do something wrong? If so, I would like to be made aware of said things...... Hmm, or did your forum simply get owned by someone who has it in for me?

I won't stop until I get to the bottom of this! And then there will be cake...

Hi all. Anyone ever heard of ThorConnWndClass. When I shut down This program does not end yet I can't find it in a search or running processes. I am not being hijacked and it does not affect the puter except when I shut down. I have run spy bot and adware 2nd and come up empty. I search for it on line and find no reference to it.

A:A mystery

It isn't a file or a registry key. It looks to be a somewhat obscure API call from within a Windows program. Do you use Outlook? If so, try accessing your mail through a web connection (most POP3 accounts can be accessed as web mail through IE if you go to your ISP's site), looking through the mail, and deleting all your messages. This problem seems to result from some corrupted mail files on the server.

It may be a piece of mail that has a large number of addresses in the "To:" field, definitely spam.

That API appears to be initiated from inetcomm.dll. Try going to Start > Run, and typing:

regsvr32.exe inetcomm.dll <Enter>

for at least a temporary fix.

Things I have done:
Ran MBAM, SAS, defrag, chk disc, and MSE all to no avail.

The computer runs fine with no glitches but will not shut down, any input always appreciated!

It seems to never end. Always a new problem appearring out of nowhere. I have a french computer and lately I can't send any accents when using Yahoo Mail or Hotmail. I'm even using Yahoo.ca in French. I can write the accents and I see them on screen but when my friends receive the messages they just receive unreadable symbols. The same thing when I receive a reply for a message I've sent. The original message is full of unreadable symbols instead of my french accents.

I have a brand new Gateway with XP Home installed from the factory. The problem: It apparently becomes captivated with some thought of it's own and refuses to acknowledge the users desire to run a program. (Now.) After some delay, which only it understands, it will eventually load and execute the program. The delay is usually on the order of 30 minutes to as much as 2 hours. The owner considers this to be unacceptable performance.

The only things "added" to the box are Norton Internet and AV software, plus some software provided by the DSL provider. Connection to the external world is through a FW router.

Other symptoms noticed: Event log has several warnings about missing W32 time sync and a few "can not connect to the DHCP server, lease has expired, etc., errors". (How this can be, I do not rightly understand since the router is only three feet away and acts as the DHCP server.) Apparently, it recovers and obtains a new lease at some point because it does not continue to produce the errors. Finally, NetDetect (Symantec) was scheduled to run every 5 minutes, forever. (Seems a bit overly done to me since the live update is only scheduled for every three days or so.)

Any thoughts will be appreciated greatly.

So, long story short.
Few months back I changed my motherboard and processor to intel i5-750, old but decent choice.
1 Week ago I bought a good GPU and more ram, because I wanted to aim on high res games.
Changed to win 10 64bit and I started.
The pc seemed a little bit muddy for the stats it has in it. At first it lagged at a point when I was typing too fast.
I downloaded GTA V, read articles, did a game-debate test about it, also talked with people who build them computers and they told me I should be able to run it at around 40-50 fps
However, every time I try to enter the game, my processor ( and I assume its the processor, cause its from where the noise comes) starts making that buzzing noise, as if it was electricity spinning down there in the box.
Game loads, pictures change, till the point of the first ingame video, as soon as the video starts my pc shuts down and resets on its own.
Sometimes when I push the pc a little bit harder on another surface, not GTA V, the noise comes back for a few seconds, as it seems to be overheating or something.
At one point my pc started shutting down on its own before it could even load to my desktop, but I fixed that by fixing my processor cooling system, had to pin it more carefully.
Any ideas or tips ? Why does it give that noise? Is it maybe time for me to change the processor? Could it be something else that's overheating my PC? Any thoughts would be helpful, with the following explanation and fixes I shoul apply. Thank you.... Read more

Hello, I have a self made problem that probably has no answer. I purchased couple of computer cases the other day at a yard sale ($15.00). Both are generic cases. Case # 1 had a power supply and a couple of drives, Case #2 had a MB, CPU (Cel. 400), and a couple of drives no HD. Well I took a chance and tried to combine the two, I had all the other hardware needed. After switching the motherboard to the other case, adding memory and an old HD with Linux on it. Believe this or not but it worked! But not exactly the way it should. (A) Although it shows the drives Floppy, CD, and HD. The HD is the only thing that works. If I put a CD in the player it doesn't recognise there is a CD inside and the same with the Floppy! This has to be on the Bios/MB level because no matter how I set up the boot sequence it will not boot from these devices. Also I THINK I have all the little lites and buttons on the front contol hooked up properly. If not could that affect the board in this manor? Also I almost forgot it is a Gateway board with Intel chips. Anyone for this challenge? Oh one more thing the case I removed the MB from had 6 screws with plastic washers that connected into metal stand offs. The case I put it in had four Plastic stand offs (At the four corners and two metal stand offs in the middle edges of the board where I used two of the screws with plastic washers.

A:A Mystery to me!

Could this have anything to do with in an old Linux you need to mount a floppy and a CD drive before you can access the files?

However setting floppy/CD drive to boot is no business of any operating system. It sounds more like a hardware connection problem but that can be clear if the POST screen reports them.

So may be you can confirm

(1) Have the devices been reported in the POST screen?
(2) Inside the BIOS screen are these devices correctly identified?

If they are not reported correctly recheck all the connections

If they are reported correctly but still do not respond then next time you pick up another box ask the seller "Do all the components work?".
