I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/03/01/password_management_site_xss_bug/Password management site LastPass has plugged a security hole in its website that created a means to extract the email addresses - though not the passwords - of enrolled users. The cross-site scripting bug meant that logged-in users induced to visit a malicious site would disclose their email addresses and sites associated with a LastPass account, along with password reminders and a list of IP addresses used to access the site. The bug was discovered by independent security researcher Mike Cardwell, who was unable to exploit the flaw to extract passwords.LastPass - which boasts close to a million members - stores website login details in an encrypted container, safeguarded by a master password. Users log in to extract this information either directly via the website or by using a browser extension.

How to force IE 11 to ask for saving credentials again for just one web site, after having accidentally sellect not to remember password for that particular site. Please, take into account that:

- I'm totally aware that storing credentials is not a good security practice, but in my particular case this is what I need to do.

- I know that reseting IE or similar approachs will do the job, but doing that I'll lost more tan 70 web sites credentials. I need a solution not involving loose all the web credentials stored.
- I also know that there is way to do the trick "lying" to IE using a modified but similar username, but this only works in some web sites, depending on the kind of login mechanism used. In my particulare case this trick also does not work.
- I also know that there was a registry hack for this particular problem, but this does not work with IE last versions.

Any help would be very apreciated.

hi,

After some reading I am under the impression that it is possible to use other websites data and incorporate it into my own.

Please could someone confirm this and also give me some direction as to how to do this?

Im coding in asp & vb script. I think i may need to install a component - xmlHTTP? Is this correct?

Many thanks in advance

A:use CNN.com info on my own site

The component you want is MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP and it should already be installed on your computer.
Look to see if the website you want to get information from has and RSS/RDF feed (as they are much easier to parse than html).

I would like if someone would rank and price web site builders. I need to set up a web site and I have not build one in a very long time. I would like software that is easy to use but with some complexity for later on when I am more knowledgeable.

A:Need info about web site builders

Unless your supremely confident in your abilities I strongly suggest you just get one built.

Even more seriously, if you want to do it don't even bother with a normal "website" and head straight for a Wordpress install, as your inexperience can leverage so much more control. Adding pages, comments, or customising is possible in an almost infinite number of ways as well. Plus once you've settled with a design, adding a new page is as simple as clicking new page from within the admin panel, naming a title for it, and then typing the content and hitting publish... Simples!

For an example of two, check out two of my sites:

www.leekaelin.co.uk
www.vvon.co.uk

Both are running Wordpress, and both are fantastic with the correct tools for SEO etc.

After a crash of IE8 I restarted and now the top of border of IE8 is dark black and tells you precisely where you are. For example, right now above the address box it reads "Vista Forums - Post New Thread - Windows Internet Explorer - [InPrivate]." I can post a pic if needed.

If memory serves the top border used to be graphite (my color preference) without any site information.

I restarted IE8 and also shutdown and restarted Windows which didn't solve it. What happened and how can I fix this?

Thanks.

It sounds like you are showing tabs in a separate row (that is how its for my IE9, anyway). Put your cursor on a blank space on the bar (try next to the tab and the address bar) right click and untick, show tabs on separate row. If that does not work, send us a screen shot.

I mentioned this yesterday in another thread but thought it might be better suited in its own thread here. Yesterday, I was looking up a possible birthday present for a friend on Google, and when I went I clicked on a link to the laracroftonline forums, I got redirected to url4short.info, a site with lots of dodgy-looking ads. I went back to Google as soon as I realised what had happened. While this may not have been the wisest decision, I clicked on the link again and was taken to the forums instead of the redirected site. Both Avira and Malwarebytes found nothing wrong.

I just decided to see if it happened again, and it did. I tried clicking on a few other links and didn't get redirected. Does this sound like a problem with my PC or with the site? What action should I take.

For what it's worth, the Google search I did was lara croft 9" statue. Thanks in advance for your help.

I just got my daughter an Ipod, but didn't figure finding a music download site would be this difficult. I don't care if I have to pay an annual fee, but I'm not paying $.99 a song.

Bearshare (or is it Sharebear) was recommended by a relative, but a review search showed it scored as poop. Is there a free Bearshare and a fee Bearshare? I'm skeptical of P2P, but is the fee site different from the file sharing site?

Limewire was suggested by a friend of hers, but supposedly it's loaded with spyware. How about Yahoo downloads? That's a higher annual fee, but worth it if there's no spyware.

Her computer is on a encrypted LAN with Zonealarm, AVG, M$ Antispyware, and Spybot.

Suggestions are not only requested, but needed. I can't keep her offline for long.

Thank you,

While on anothe site or browsing I received mssg that my pc was sending out my personal info. They listed some of my info such as computer name and size, running xp.... Is this a Scam to get u to buy software to stop from it OR could it be real ? I don't remember who it was from , possibly microsoft? I don't have anything set to look for upgrades but im worried cause my pc has been acting funny for awhile now and I get error logs I look at them and try to read it and it always asks for logins and says other stuff that could be mistakenen for virus or a pswd tracker. always ends with unable to retrieve due to corrupt or bad something or other/
My husband says it sounds like someone is trying to access my info and I say it could be just the actual log of me browsing and entering all different sites and logging in and sometimes not being able to get in (ex. typed wrong psswd) I don't download anything (i d/l spydoctor 2 days ago) but other than that. I con't understand the protocol so i dont worry about phrases like "arent and child" and "removing all traces" "remote useror access" I COULD BE TRYING TO VISIT WEBSITE AND GOING THRU AOL TO ME IS REMOTE ACCESS AND TO HIM ITS SOMEONE ELSE TRYING ??

For security reasons, Microsoft does not allow parents (computer administrators) to check on, maintain, adjust or otherwise enter their kids' (limited users) XP profiles without either resetting their passwords or waiting for them to come home and being confrontational about it.

Ideally I would like to be able to log on to a limited user account from my administrator account without tampering with anyone's passwords-resetting them or otherwise. Actually, I have little interest in the (step) kids' personal life and stuff. Alternately, perhaps you may help me with my ultimate goal: limiting screensaver activity:

My arrogant and belligerant teenage stepson likes to customize the family room to his tastes rather that leave it to the generic unbiased interest of the family in general. Latest, he has designed his "my pictures" screensaver somehow to override cmos settings to illustrate various pictures of himself for unlimited time rather than allow cmos or windows to shut off the monitor after periods of inactivity. Typically he would prefer to be confrontational about it, fight and argue over the issue stressing out his depressed mom in the process; I do not want to fight-I just want my monitor to go off after a while of non-use and not be kept on by XP. Sorry about all the disfunctional family issues I had to mention for background. It is hard dealing with an aggressive controlling kid. Obviously most of the time the computer is left on his profile but... Read more

Hi
In A domain environment when i rest a user password from active directory users and computers he is unable to login to Windows with new password. He is configured to login through wifi And we are using single sign on in the wifi settings. This issue is only affecting few users. connection to company wifi network is authenticated through 802.1x. so we manualy create a wifi profile for 802.1x .

At the dual login screen the new credentials (we are using active directory credentials for wifi since it's 802.1x) are entered. First it spits an error that unable to connect to wifi. Then windows spits an error of invalid user name or password.

If we enter the old credentials at login in both wifi access and windows access we are able to login to Windows (it logs in with Cached credentials) but I it obviously is unable to connect to wifi network.

The user is a member of wifi group so he has access to wifi and he can access wifi through his iPhone.

Also another observation is that if I login with his Cached credentials and configure a wifi profile /connection using his new (reseted password) password windows spits an error that cannot connect to the network.

So the core issue is that after reseting his password from active directory users and computers he cannot connect to wifi through windows.

The workaround that currently I do is i login with his Cached credentials to Windows and then i use my own credentials to configure wifi connecti... Read more

Hi all,

We are having a real issue with local profiles / user profile service on our domain.
Our staff accounts are using local profiles. When a staff member changes their password something is happening to their profiles on the machines that their local profile is stored. When they try to login the machine is getting stuck at "Please wait for
the user profile service....". It never continues, we have left for 30 mins or more and it doesn't continue.

We are currently having to use delprof2 to remove their profiles from ALL machines they have previously logged into which is a lot of hassle.

We first noticed this issue when we upgraded our workstations from windows 7 to windows 8.
I was hoping that upgrading to windows 8.1 would fix the issue but sadly it doesn't. This is causing us major hassle on our domain.

It only affects people with local profiles... our students use mandatory profiles and they are not affected.

Our DCs are 2012 R2.

I have trawled google but cannot find any information on this. At our yearly microsoft meeting i asked our regional account manager and he couldn't believe the issue. He had never heard anything like this before.

From the event log, the only thing i can see is that it is not finishing the load of the user profile.
Under user profile service events it shows this:

Event 1: Recieved user logon notification on session 2.
Event 2: Registry file C:\Users\USERNAME\ntuser.dat is loaded at ... Read more

I immediately called customer service and was told I would get the correct item. Guess what? They sent the same exact incorrect model. All of this took a month. So I had in my posession two laptops I didnt want. I tried to reach out to my original case manager, no reply. Her name is Anabel Lopez. She is incompetent. No reply, dead as a rock but she wants to know how y replacement is doing. REALLY. I tried social media, NO REPLY. I had to call customer service again and im still trying to figure out what is going to happen. This is all due to the names on the site for the glass finishes. I have attached screen shots of the errors on lenovo.com.   What can I do to get this situation escalated and I could be heard? This is UNACCEPTABLE. No one should go through this mess. A:No user Info

The obvious question would be ... Did you use a genuine installation disk and if you did, then try formatting and re-installing again. If it`s a cracked or hacked disk, then you`re on your own or at least, in the hands of whoever sold/gave it to you.

Assuming it`s genuine, you could try popping the CD in the drive and running system file checker in the run command to check that all the system files are still intact (sfc /scannow) but if you`ve only recently installed it, it`s probably easier to re-install rather than mess about and try and fix it, not knowing if it`ll throw up anything else in the future.

Hi Guys,

I am running Windows XP Media Center edition. It's my personal pc and I primarily use it. I have one user account created (that is admin a/c) and like most people do I login thru that and use windows.

I wanted to create another user account with very limited facilities. This is because someone else will also be using my pc so he can login thru the other a/c. I know windows xp allows you to create a limited user account but inspite of that user can still modify or delete files on pc.

I wanted to know how can I create & customize a user account that allows a person only to use Internet explorer for browsing and he can user basic applications like MS Word, Notepad, Adobe reader etc. The user can only save files on desktop. He should not be able to modify other files on pc and he cannot enable folder options or show/hide all files etc.

Any info on how to do that will be appreciated.

Thanks,

GR

A:User Account Info

I believe that would involve changing/modifying user permissions.I don't have any Media Center versions of XP, so I cannot tell you how to do that...but I can provide some reading material.Which edition of Media Center?Reference: http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-...11-6152061.htmlIf this were XP Home...I'd simply install the Security Tab and use that to control the new account. The Security Tab allows an admin to define user access to files/drives more precisely. How Do I See the Security tab in XP Home (Doug Knox) - http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_home_sectab.htm In dealing with permissions, I would advise against using the DENY column for any user. Rather, I would suggest using the ALLOW column and not allowing any privileges to users which you don't want them to have. I can control all the privileges for a drive, a folder, a file...by right-clicking on same.Louis

Hi.

I'm trying to write a command but can't seem to get the syntax correct. What I want is a batch command to write some info to a csv file. I want to give this command to our users so all their PC data gets written to a single csv file on a network space ...

so far I have ...

wmic computersystem get model,manufacturer,totalphysicalmemory,username

So how do I output to a csv file on a network share and append to this file for each user who runs the script?

A:Using WMIC to get user info?

Use Export-Csv with the append option:
Export-Csv

I would also consider running this remotely rather than having the users do it unless you have very few users.

Something else to consider would be software like this:

Hello All,

Here is a message from Sweden! I have recently received my ADSL modem, an Alcatel Speedtouch and have set-it up ok, I am surfing from it at the moment. I have been trying all weekend to set-up a D-Link 624+ router so I can surf wireless through my MAC's airport, but have had no luck whatsoever. I have enabled both the MAC and the router to receive DHCP automatically, but the only IP address my router receives is the 192.160.0.1 address. I have powered down the router and disconnected the modem, waited 20 mins and then started-up the modem, connected to the router and then connected the MAC but still nothing. I am currently trying a reverse polarity cable between the modem and the router, but the same story, just the 192.160.0.1 address.

Customer service from my IP (Glocalnet) and from D-Link here in Sweden is awful and I have received no help. Is there someone out there who can shed some light and help me solve this problem. I would be very grateful and you will help stop my hair going grey!

Thanks, Yossaria

Yet, Skype was still installed, Mozilla was there, my BlackBerry software was there just without any of the personal info? Basically like my user profile was cleaned out?

Folders I had set up directly on the C: were still there, yet all of 'My Documents' were gone...

I was able to retrieve everything from Carbonite (YIPPEE) and am in the process of getting it all put back where it belongs.. Spybot didn't find anything and the shortened version of Norton did not find anything, have not done a full system scan via Norton yet.

I brought the computer (Dell Latitude laptop) into a local computer tech and he didn't have a clue, basically did nothing except waste 4 days that I could have spent working on it...

Any ideas of what would cause this? Is it worth it for me to be getting it all set back up or should I do something else first?

Thank you!!!!

A:User info wiped clean

It sounds like your Windows Profile may have been corrupted and Windows created a new one for you. Your Windows Profile is located in a folder on your hard drive that stores your "My Documents", "Application Data", "Cookies", "Favorites", etc.

If you're using XP, check in C:\Documents and Settings\ and look through the folders there to see if you can find your stuff. If it was a corrupted profile, Windows will recreate the profile, usually using the Username.Computername convention (ie if your Computer name is LivingRoom and your Username is Owner, you may see two folders called Owner and Owner.LivingRoom).

If you're using Vista/Win7, the profiles will be located under C:\Users\.

You may need to enable hidden files to see everything. Open My Computer, then click on "Tools", then "Folder Options". Click on the View tab, then select the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button and click OK.

Once you locate your profile folder, you should be able to copy your My Documents, Cookies, etc. to your new profile folder. You should be able to find the path to your new profile by right-clicking on "My Documents", then click on Properties.

i'm trying to get rid of a shortcut that's preventing me to assign a new one. have searched the HD for .lnk -files, and there's none that would have that key combo.

odd.

would there be a way of getting a compiled view of all the shortcuts that are assigned?

i'm on 7-64, but was sometimes wondering about this for the past several years on other flavors as well.

cheers.

A:who knows where the info on user-defined shortcuts is kept?

Shortcut Key Explorer is a nice small piece of software that does exactly that. It scans your computer for global, non-standard keyboard shortcuts. Free download: RJL Software - Software - Utility - Shortcut Key Explorer - Download

I have to send my HP dv2-1030us to HP for a fan replacement. I am running Vista Home Premium x64, and have completed a backup using the backup function in Vista. Now I'd like to delete all my personal information without touching my installed programs.

I know I can simply find document folders and delete them, and I can empty my Mozilla passwords file. I think that I can get rid of my browser history, and I think that getting rid of cookies will stop websites from remembering my user id? What am I forgetting? Is there a simple one-step procedure to accomplish all of this?

Thanks in advance. I did search this forum and others and couldn't find a relevant post.

A:Need to delete all user info--is there an easy way

I do not know of any way to do what you want, but I do know that you cannot completely remove the information by simple deletion. If someone wanted to get the information that has supposedly been deleted there are ways to do it.

The only way to completely remove the information is to throughly format, using a special process.

If you are like most users and the most sensitive information is the pasword to you bank accounts etc, bringing the computer in for repair will not be a problem; but you never know.

Hi,
Once a workstation is removed from the active domain does the SAM file still contain security information regarding the active domain.
I'm asking because we are evaluating our security processes when retiring a workstation.
Thank you,

I am running Windows 7 64 Professional, and was performing my normal quarterly tune-up. In the process, I did use Tune-Up Utilities 2010 (for Windows 7 64 bit), and did a registry clean-up. Found a few items which were deleted. Had to leave for awhile, so shut the system down.

When I rebooted, the system came up, asked for my name and password, and boom...went to a generic desktop, no icons, as if I was a new user on the PC. A pop up sayind that I could not log onto my account. Favorites were gone, files on my desktop gone, etc. It did stop me in my tracks!

I immediately shut down and repowered, and this time everything back to normal. whew!

The question is.....what happened????

I have run the registry cleaner before from Tune-Up Utilities, and trust it, but something happened this time. I am hoping that I could have done something (not sure what) to restore my normal desktop, other than rebooting.

Any thoughts?

Thx

Try a system restore. If it works, remember to create a system restore before you run it.

I know this has been discussed before so please forgive me if I am naive. I am pretty computer literate but a) I have just joined this group and b) I have only just progressed to Vista.
I have a problem and it's bugging me to the point of turning me neurotic!! I bought my Vista laptop from "Comet" and I have no idea how to delete all of their information from my computer. Whatever I do the folder C/Users/Comet appears everywhere - hundreds of times in the registry. I cannot delete it from User Accounts because for some reason it doesn't appear there at all - just my own admin account. It will not allow me to rename it (that would just screw up the system anyway, I expect). I want to remove all references to COMET. But how?
What if I took it back to the shop? But would my data be and settings preserved?

A:Change User Account info

Hello Graham, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You cannot rename the C:\Users\Comet folder. Changing the name only changes how the name that appears in the Start menu, then both names are attached to that user account.

To change this completely, you will need to create a new administrator account. Afterwards, copy the contents of your C:\Users\Comet folders into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders to keep your settings. If everthing checks out ok, then you can delete the old account from within your new account.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

hello everyone.. i was just wondering on how i can capture users information in dreamweaver, like there name address phone number.

and once they hit the submit button, where will i get that information.. on my webserver??

this is a little vague i know, but this will be the starting point of my question since i don't know what else to ask.

thanks.

A:capturing user info in dreamweaver..

First of all-you can not capture their information unless they give it to you. If your planning on "stealing" that information from the user, give up now.

Second, you really need a serverside language to do this reliably. Do you have access to PHP, CGI, ASP, etc?

My PC won't boot neither normally or in safe mode and It won't repair itself, but I've found that if I press F8 after a restart, I can then select the option to repair and I getting System Recovery Options that ask for the user login. Either I don't have my user login info or it won't be accepted.

I have the Gateway disc that came with my PC. I also have discs created at Best Buy, 'Gateway Applications & Drivers' + 'Backup Discs'.

We're trying to set up something on our network here where people can easily get to information about each person.
Kind of like a shared rolodex for the company.

In administering Active directory, I can view each users address, phone number, a photo, etc...
But is there any way of getting it so that anyone on our network can view this as well?

On our network we also have an exchange server, and a sharepoint server...so if it nedds to be through one of those, that's do-able.

Thanks!

I am wirelessly networked with router and PCI adapter, When using Task Manager>Users, shouldn't I be able to see another user if they are logged on the other machine? All I see is myself at the machine that I am logged onto and using at the time. My firewall is turned on, on the "host" computer, the machine I am using now, "remote", has firewall disabled temporarily.

I want to be able to see when someone is logged on either machine, from either machine, and I want to be able to send messages between the two machines, ie:"chat". Is this possible?

I am also interested in playing games between the 2 machines, is this possible?

Router has IP adress, and each computer has an IP adress, right?

I am looking for a really good "network" information site. any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for your help...............Carl

This isn't who is connected I believe its who is logged in. If you want to see who is connected to your PC right click My Computer, Pick properties, Pick Manage, In there go to system tools/shared folders/sessions

The easiest way is to do this is to enable messenger service on your PC's internally and use net send to send pop up messenges. You can load Lan chat clients that act like a messanger too.

If the games you want to play are configureable to play on a LAN (most are) and if your using a protocol all machines uspport (usually its TCP/IP and all can support it).

Do you mean physical network setup or do you mean services and configuration once setup?
