The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge - ThinkPad T450s

Q: The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge - ThinkPad T450s

After a long journey, both batteries in my T450s were flat, and this morning when I plugged in and booted up I got the message that "The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge". True to its word, one of the batteries does not seem to be charging. These are the original batteries which came with the laptop when bought new from Lenovo. They have performed well since I received it, no problems to date, and no obvious reduction in performance. How can I get the battery charging again? Thanks for your help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. THINK PAD T 430

The batteries with p/ns you have been provided are not compatible with t430. Because of t430 needs new design batteries with special chip for authentication.
Lenovo PSREF (regarding t430):
"Battery type: Lithium Ion 6-cell or 9-cell, supports optional Slice battery as 2nd battery, HW Authentication"
Those batteries you have are for the t420/t520/w520.

I bought some batteries for the E430 notebook, the battery model is Lenovo L11M6Y01, however every time I turn on the notebooks the alert message appears:"The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system."I would like to disable this message, but I don't know how, I didn't find any options in the BIOS setup. I need support, thank you

A:Thinkpad E430: How to disable "The battery installed is not supported" warning from boot

There is no option.  The batteries on 3rd gen core processor-based machines (like yours) are different from the older ones.  The older ones are the same shape, but they don't work.

I contacted Lenovol support and they send me a replacement unit. The the replacement unit has the same problem. Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.  I need to plug in the power adapter for both docking station and notebook.  Does anybody have similiar problem?

A:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

I just turned on my P71 and Battery Not Supported message came up. I pressed ESC not thinking anything bad was wrong and the system booted normally. So after I setup my computer i checked the battery and it recognizes the battery statistics but does charge. It says battery not compatible with your system and will not charge message appears I removed and replaced it and turned on the laptop without AC adapter and the battery seems to work fine, but since its not charging I'm currently at AC power. Anyone know what is the cuase and a fix? I tried the power cycle method and removing the battery and reinstalling.

I bought a Thinlpad R51 - 1836 BBU used and with no battery. I bought a new battery, installed it and the battery drained completely. I sent it back and got a new one and also bought a new power chord. The battery and new power chord worked fine for two months. Last week the battery drained completely again (while plugged into AC chord).

Again I bought a new battery (extended life this time) and bought a docking station. I am now faced with the new battery drains everytime I use it. The power chord does not charge it. The docking station does not charge it either. I would like some questons answered:

Is it normal for the pc to have to be ON for the battery to be charged?

Does anyone know if there is any indication that the power chord is plugged in while the battery is installed? When on AC only, it shows plug - When battery installed (on battery only or with AC chord) computer shows on battery power.

Do the external battery charger units really work? this may be my only way of recharging my battery if not through the pc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all, Please forgive if this has been posted. I couldn't find an answer: I purchased a replacement for my battery, but on installation it wouldn't charge. I tried disabling AC and battery in device manager. I tried complete shut down and reboot. Couldn't get the new battery to be recognized. The old battery still works a bit, so I'm not in serious trouble. but with the battery going on a few years old, I wanted to replace before it left me stranded. Is there something that must be done to tell the system (Win 8.1 x 64 pro) to recognize that the battery is new, and to reflash the battery firmware and reset the driver? Simply replacing the battery didn't quite get the job done. Thank you for any response.

I've got a Thinkpad 600E running WindowsXP, which has performed pretty well, although the original battery (understandably) just refuses to hold a charge very long any more - although it will reliably recharge when the laptop is running on A/C.

I decided to invest in a new (genuine) IBM replacement laptop battery, which upon receipt, just wouldn't seem to go into the recharge cycle. The recharge light (lower left screen hinge) only blinks orange. Assuming "defective battery", I requested and received a return merchandise authorization, and returned the battery and requested a replacement. The replacement arrived, and the same problem.

Although not outside the realm of reasonableness, it seems improbably that two consecutive replacement laptop batteries would be defective. Under power options, the replacement battery appears to be being recognized - although just not charging (graphic shows a "circle and bar" running through the battery image).

So, clearly (at least to me),

There's nothing wrong with my A/C adapter
There's nothing wrong with my existing (old) battery
There's nothing wrong with the battery charging circuitry

Again, this is a genuine IBM laptop battery, with the exact same model as the old one and it seems to defy reason that this battery also has some sort of defect. Any suggestions on a way to "kick-start" the new battery into recharging?

Thanks for visiting this thread and any advice you have.

The Laptop this is in regards to is a TOSHIBA A205-S7468 (not the C855 of my specs).

I'm finishing a few upgrades on this older, backup of mine (replaced screen, RAM upgrade, clean up) and the battery was in need of replacement. So, I purchased a new replacement on Ebay (I know, right) and it is working ok, but there has been a few red flags.

There was a brief episode with battery level and charge status, but I seemed to correct it by following some instructions on other threads here. It's now stable and 100%, HOWEVER, it reports it has 25% wear level and will only charge to 100% using 75% of it's capacity.

I've uninstalled (and then scanned for hardware changes) the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery Driver (this seemed to straighten out battery level/charge status flags). Checked and made small recommended changes to power saving option (critical level, etc...). Drained it completely and recharged fully (per instructions).

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice as to why a new battery would be limited to 75% capacity (and be 100% fully charged)??

Is the battery OEM or an aftermarket battery?  How old is the battery? I know of Windows 7 OS having issues with recognizing some batteries and were relatively easy to fix.  I do not know if it carried over to Windows 10.  I will have to look up the article to find any relevance.

I have a ThinkPad T450s purchased in Dec 2015 with Windows 10 Pro. It has the Intel AC 7265 wireless adapter. I am trying to use the Windows hosted network feature to use the laptop as a hotspot for other devices but I cannot get it to work. When I open a command prompt as administrator and run 'netsh wlan show drivers', the setting 'Hosted network supported:' is set to 'No'. I have tried updating the wireless adapter driver via the Lenovo Companion tool, via the Intel Driver Update utility, and via Windows through the Device Manager. The wireless driver was updated to version 18.330.1 dated 2016-01-05. I then rebooted the machine but still no improvement. The hosted network feature still shows as not supported. I also tried showing the hidden devices in Device Manager but under Network adapters there is no Microsoft Hosted Network virtual adapter listed. Is this a driver issue? Does anyone with a T450s show hosted network as being supported? Thanks

I installed a "spare" battery that I picked up at local computer show. Initially it had a 2% charge. After I plugged in the power supply, it steadily built up [things went from orange to green].

However, when it reached 74% it stopped charging !! I pulled the plug and ran the battery down to 50%. But when it reached 74% it stopped again.

The little green battery symbol [on the hinge] has stopped "blinking" ??

How can I get a 100% charge into the battery ??

NOTE: I posted this on Thinkpad forum and got "zero response".

A:T21 Thinkpad - "Partial" Battery Charge

Chances are it is suffereing from the "memory effect" as they do after a while. Batteries do not have an infinite life and this is one of the first indications that it is getting tired. You should discharge it down to nearly zero and recharge it a few times to see if it recovers (unlikely)

I have a yoga 260 that would not charge the battery when plugged in. I tried a different charger which didn't work and then replaced the battery but also no luck. I sent it to Lenovo and was told I need a new system board which was going to cost around that of a newer laptop. I decided to replace it myself with a refurbished board as I've done this on an old computer in the past. With the install complete it can get some charge to the board because it tries to start up but I am getting 2 short beeps with nothing on the screen. I realize this usually means there is a system board issue. I've rechecked all the connections and everything 4x so I don't think it was an install problem. Is there something else I need to do or did I just buy a bad refurbished board?

I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. You can follow the steps below:
Drain the residual power of your computer and recaliberate the battery by following the steps below:

Power off your computer.
Remove all the external peripherals  (printers, scanners or any other USB device) connected to your computer.
Please remove the AC adapter and battery of your computer.
Press and hold the power button of your computer for 10-15 seconds to drain the residual power.
Release the power button
Keep the battery out for atleast 2 - 3 hours.
Then insert the battery and charge it overnight with the system powered off.
Insert the battery in and connect the AC adaptor.
Then power on the computer and see if it works.

If the issue still persists, you can update the BIOS of the computer.
Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

Click on the below link: http://dell.to/Th8z4k
Click on “Download File”.
Select “For Single File Download via Browser”.
Click on “Download Now”.
Save the BIOS on your desktop.
Once the BIOS is downloaded on the desktop, right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
Follow the prompts on screen and restart your computer.

 Please reply with the findings.

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."
Shockingly none worked that I found.
Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.
A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.
To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)
Worked with an off brand battery also.
Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.
Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.
Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hello,  I recently bought a replacement battery for my T530, upgrading from the 6-cell to the 9-cell version. While I did not buy it from Lenovo, I bought it on ebay, the seller had very high ratings, and as far as I could tell it is genuine. Hi! I have bought a T450s with Win7 and a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro dock recently and I have had some problems with the dock.BIOS and drivers are up to date on the computer and the dock can work sometime but only when the dock itself installs drivers from Windows update. If I disconnect the dock from the computer more than a couple of minutes it won't work again, it shows up on Devices and Printers but the external screen, ethernet, mouse and external keyboard wont work anymore. What I've discovered is:- When the dock works there is atleast 5 different things listed under the hardware tab of the device (can't remember what, and I can't get it working again)- When it's not working but the dock shows up on the Device and Printers there is only 2 things listed under the hardware tab, USB 2.0 nav and USB 2.0 nav. These are also listed there when it works.- I don't know why the dock doesn't run on USB 3.0 at any point.- When the dock works I can't update the firmware, it just says "No device found" when running the firmware update. What I've done so far:- Completely removed/reinstalled all drivers several times- Checked that BIOS is up to date- Checked in the BIOS if USB 3.0 is enabled- Sent the dock back to Lenovo and have gotten a new one, still same problem.Anyone have some ideas of what's wrong? I hear you. I have the same problem with a T460s. And so far i have done the same thing. However, it's working on other 2 computers same model without a single error. And also i have a Toshiba Windows 10 computer, that I just plugged in and the drivers were downloaded through Windows Update quick, it was completely a plug and play experience.  But on Windows 7 doesn't seems to work... I don't know what's going on. It still shows up  as USB 2.0 hub

HiI have a Thinkpad 450s with a WWAN card in it and have been using 4g quite a lot. It turned out that when my computer was on and connected to 4g it blocks phonecalls for my phone as i use a twin simcard with my phone. I thought it could have something to do with my drivers for the WWAN card, but when i downloaded the sierra software and drivers my 4g stopped working and the WWAN card seems to have dissapeared from everything, even the device manager. i tried uninstalling the software, but that didn't help. Does anyone know what it can be?
