Windows 10 Error code 0xc1900101-0x30018

Q: Windows 10 Error code 0xc1900101-0x30018

Upgrading a Windows 8.1 installation and it stuck at getting devices ready at 2%. No BSOD. Has to be specific to 8.1 as I have already installed 10 on a clean partition with no issues on this machine. All drivers up to date. Did try removing Avast. No wireless devices attached. Not really bothered but an upgrade would save a few hours. Tried it twice and it sticks in the same place "Getting devices ready 2%" A reboot restores previous OS.
There is a lot written about this error applying to Windows 8 and wireless devices in laptops....this is a huge desktop machine.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Windows 10 Error code 0xc1900101-0x30018

I suppose when it ran the compatibility checker, it showed no problems?

There was a time when Bluetooth devices caused problems. If you have any, you might try disabling them in the Bios.

I have not done an install over 8.1. The one time I tried, it said it could not with Media Center installed, so I stopped.

No log files left after the failed attempt?

Hi, how are you?  I am posting here because my error is 0xC1900101 0x30018 (see pic).  I get "stuck" on 40% overall and 23% of installing features and drivers.  I say "stuck" because the inner percentage circle breathes but nothing happens past those percentages.

Please help,
I have a a XPS 13, 9333 originally delivered with Ubuntu but I need to run Windows 10on it.
So far, and after many attempts, I've been totally unable to install Windows 10. I am subscribed to MSDN so i downloaded the Win 10 installer with a new registration key.
Trying to install Win 10 booting from USB stops midway (black screen for hours).

I was able to install windows 7. Then I tried to upgrade to Win 10 running setup from it.
1st phase (file copying) OK.
2nd phase (driver installation) halts at 25% (40% total) and reboots recovering windows 7 and showing Error 0xC1900101 0x30018 t failed in operation "FIRST_BOOT", ... SYSPREP at startup.
Windows 7 installation from which I start is a clean one, no AV, no apps, nohing.
Any idea anybody?

Thanks

I have a brand new XPS 13, 9343 model with i7 processor and 512GB SSD. I am still within the 14 day cooling off period, and I'm now seriously considering returning it. I have never experienced such a load of nonsense trying to install any other piece of software.
So far, and after many attempts, I've been totally unable to upgrade to Windows 10. The very first thing I did was install all available Windows updates for 8.1 (there were 79 of them), and immediately after that I began the Win10 install saga. Nothing else has been done to the laptop - no dodgy software or USB devices (other than the boot USB where necessary). It is in a clean state.
- After downloading through Windows Update, the installation procedure is INCREDIBLY slow (eg it takes 36 HOURS to reach 42% completion - and at this point it hits the error message). What on earth can it be doing??
- I also tried creating a bootable USB through the media creation tool. If I boot from this USB drive and perform a "clean" install, this works perfectly - it takes about 8 minutes in total (which emphasises how ridiculous the 36 hours is). However, because it is a clean install and not an "upgrade", I end up with a non-activated version of Windows 10 and I get prompted to pay £99.99, which I have no intention of doing. I paid for the laptop on the understanding it would get a FREE upgrade to Win10!
- I have also tried using the USB (but not booting from it) to perform the in-place upgrade -... Read more

Hey,

I've tried to install the Win 8.1 Update via the Windows Store and got the 0xc1900101 - 0x30018 several times after the PC restarted at the ending of the update.

I know that several users solved this with disabling drivers, so I did some suggestions I've found.

1. Disabling AV (Kaspersky)

2. Disabling LAN Controllers

3. Uninstalling DAEMON Tools, TuneUp

4.

--> DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

--> sfc /scannow

--> wsreset.exe

5. Trying to repair Windows Update itself via "WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab"

6. Disabling AIDA

7. Disabling all components from my ASUS motherboard

some other things I can't remember...

For your information, I don't want to install Windows 8.1 from scratch, as I have too many programs and I never had problems with installing an OS for this system (Win7, Win8).

Thanks for the help

Hello to all,

bought a new Sattelite Pro C850-1MX (PSCBZE 00M009GR) in december 2013. System is running almost unchanged to delivery state. Yet installed OpenOffice, Firefox and AdobeReader in most actual versions. And updated driver for AMD-GPU to latest version. No other changes done.

Now tried to upgrade to Windows 8.1 via Windows-App-Store. Download was done, upgrade run, reboot, installing changes, preparing devices --> reboot, rollback to 8.0 with error code 0xC1900101-0x30018.

Searched internet for solutions: Toshiba sais
- update all Toshiba-components via TOSHIBA Service Station --> done
- (Link: [http://www.toshiba.de/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/]): deinstall some components: esp. LAN/WLAN-driver.

Hmmm...if I do so I cannot access Windows App-Store to rerun the upgrade because i have no network-connection. Stupid...

- Why can?t I upgrade an almost unchanged system because of some driver-uncompatibilities where i didnt change anything from delivery state???

Please state any hint/solution. Thanks!
Mark

Hey guys,

I've been having a problem with upgrading to Windows 10. I've tried using the tool both by running it on my PC and putting it on a USB. It gets through the first part of copying files and does the first reboot, then it starts back to the screen and the Installing Features and Drivers sits at 0% for a few seconds then resets and restores my old version with this error:

0xC1900101 - 0x30018 - The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with the error during SYSPREP operation.

When I originally looked this error up I read that it might be an encryption error so I decrypted both of my drives, ran the install again.. Same error. So now I am at a complete loss as to what to do so I can get myself upgraded.

System:

Windows 8.1 Pro x64
Mobo: ASUS ROG Maximus VII Hero
PCU: Intel i7 4790k 4.00 GHz
GPU: ASUS ROG MARS760x2 (2 GTX 760 chips on one card)
RAM: 16GB DDR3

Please let me know if you have any info or advice as to how I can fix or workaround this issue.

Thanks,

Hoffmann

So here is whats going on. Windows 8.1 failed to install. It would download, install, restart, install some more, restart, and then when it got to the updating devices or whatever it was exactly, it would error with 0xC1900101 - 0x30018. I found threads that pointed the issue to being wireless card issues. I tried updating the drivers before install, no go. The only thing that worked was disabling the card in the BIOS (I actually just ripped the damn thing out, but it works the same). So finally got windows 8.1 installed. Went to put my wireless card back in, booted up, almost instant frowny face blue screen. So 8.1 broke my wireless capability all together. If anyone has any ideas or knows how to fix this I would appreciate it. Otherwise it looks like I will just have to wait for microsoft to fix their default drivers or whatever they did. FYI, i have a ASUS Dual-band PCE-N35 wireless card.

A:8.1 Failure to install. 0xC1900101 - 0x30018

What about contacting ASUS and see what they say. I don't see any specific Windows 8.1 driver but maybe they have a beta version you could try.

Hi All.

I am a Mac user, but bought a PC on craigslist, that had windows Windows 7 on it. I am trying to upgrade it to Windows 10 and it is failing every time. I have downloaded the update package and installed that way and it fails at 32% of total install, approx 12% of installing drivers and features. I have done quite a bit of reading on the subject so i have tried the following:

-removed all unnecessary hardware
-rolled back drivers
-update to newest drivers
-removed antivirus
-removed all aftermarket software
-attempted upgrade by installing via flash drive and by disc

there are probably others that i cannot recall in my frustration.

i have read about a video card causing issues. The mobo does not have onboard video and this machine has a GeForce 8600 GTS SLI, without the 2nd card installed.

not sure if it is worth buying a cheap card to install to see if that is the issue...
y
i am sure i will recall other specifics once we start some conversation here, but i would greatly appreciate your help. My intent is to donate this machine so i want to ensure it is working properly so i do not have to offer free tech advice in the future that i am not qualified to give.

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays

I receive a similar error again on our HP Pavilion Notebooks with AMD CPU when updating to Windows 10 Creator update as last time when updating to Windows 10. Our office has a few of the 17-G133cl notebook computers and all of them display the same error message: We couldn't install Windows 10 - 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 - The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation. Which is similar to the error displayed during the initial Windows 10 update except that the error shown was 0x1900101 - 0x20000. Back then a BIOS update that became available that fixed the issue. We check for a new BIOS, but all notebooks have the latest BIOS already installed v. F.41 from 9/19/2016. All other systems including other none HP AMD computers upgraded just fine. Any ideas what could cause this issue with that type of system?

The funny thing is that a few weeks ago I already updated to windows 8.1 but because of a faulty driver and not being able to boot into safe mode I had to renew my windows and downgrade to windows 8.0. But now I can't seem to update to windows 8.1 anymore. I installed all the windows updates even the optional ones. So I did a factory reset and uninstalled everything that didn't seemed necessary for windows so the update would go smoother. I found a toshiba page with a tutorial to how to update to 8.1 and it told me to uninstall the following:

Genesys Logic
Intel PROSet
Intel Wireless Display
Realtek-audio driver
TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor
Realtek WLAN driver
Realtek Bluetooth Filter driver

and on another page it told me to uninstall anything related with toshiba so I did all that and these are programs I currently have:

Hi, simrick. On break and have but a few minutes.
I know you're good friends with Wyn. I remember and ask her why she was not able to upgrade a machine from 8 to 8.1. I think it had to do with the processor? Check the SecurAble program in the "Installation" section about PAE, NX, and SSE type processors here: Suggested Steps To Take Installing And Setting Up Windows 8
Have you tried upgrading via the Store? Is there a link there? If not there is an update that does so. Shawn should have it in a tute here in 8F.

Those broken files concerning the Store concern me. Is there a install log file of the failed install on your machine? If so, look in there.
Never heard or seen anyone installing with an ESD to ISO with 8 to 8.1, (migfht not be possible with OEM key?) just a fresh install with ISO downloaded from MS site. Check.this out: Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create
Are all drivers up to date? You might want to disable startup items and unplug any unnecessary devices before installing.
Have you tried Upgrade Assistant? Upgrade Assistant: FAQ - Windows Help
That's all I can think of for now. I'll try to check up on you later. I have pool league tonight though. If not, tomorrow morning.

I've been reading Latest Win 8.1 ISO "Breaks" System Image Functionality

and on my dual boot laptop with Win 7, this may be a fatal error when trying to install Win 8.1 because 8.1 adds another System partition and kills off the one I had been using.

Considering the overwhelming severity of this problem and how widespread & long-going it is, I'm gonna stick to Win 8.0 for now.

Download the attached file.. Right click and Run as Administrator.

This will create a compressed folder on the Desktop, attach it to your next post.

Hello wgan,

Is your Windows drive encrypted by chance?

If so, you'll need to decrypt it first, then update to 8.1. Afterwards, you could encrypt it again if you like.

Hope this helps,

I have made several attempts to upgrade my desktop from 8.1 to 10. Each time the install freezes at the "copying files = 3%" point. When I reboot the system returns to my 8.1 setup and shows the above code with this explanation. "Installation failed in SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation"

Can anyone tell me what this means and how to resolve the issue?

Windows 10 1511 will not update to 1607 by any method. Updates always complete to 100% then revert. Computer is a Dell Vostro 1720.

Background: The computer never appeared to update automatically, but there was never any error code. I tried to use the Windows 10 upgrade assistant. The upgrade would go through download and install to 100% but then restart back to version 1511 with no error message. Finally, I downloaded the 1607 iso, extracted it to my hard disk, and installed from there. Again the update went to 100% and then reverted back to 1511, but this time it gave the error message 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation."

I have found several threads about this error, and it seems most likely that there is a driver conflict of some kind. I have looked at the setuperr.log from $WINDOWS.~BT/Sources/Panther/ directory but I do not see what is causing the error. Can anyone help with guidance on this?

I'm unsure why I'm not able to use windows installer anymore and I'm not able to get valuable updates from windows without it. Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so, were they able to come up with a solution? Thank you. This is my first day on the site and unsure how to get around on it, but it seems like it's an exciting site and I'm looking forward to using it.

Hello,

I have a problem with installing Windows 10 (either upgrade or clean install). I think the problem has started 2.5 years ago when suddenly Windows 8 stopped installing updates. I think it stopped installing updates after the Windows 8.1 upgrade through the store has failed.

Just about a month ago, updates resumed and a bunch of them were installed. But after several days, one security update has failed to install and Windows update is stuck at this point.

I decided last week to upgrade to Windows 10. Direct upgrade wasn't possible because I have o upgrade to Windows 8.1 first, which I can't. So I have created a clean install media on USB using the media creation tool. I plugged in the USB, shut down then started and selected the USB drive as first choice for booting. It brought the Windows logo, and 1 minute later, the laptop shut down. I repeated the operation twice with the same result.

I tried then to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 from another USB, but shortly after the logo, instead of shutting down, I got a light blue screen with "something went wrong" message and the machine restarted.

Then I decided to run the USB that have Windows 10 from Windows. I selected to remove every thing and proceeded. The process after that went slow increment of 1% took about 10 minutes. Then I got the first restart, and it went the same as it shut down. I started the laptop and it went again to Windows 8. After I logged on, I got the following message:

Everytime I try to update my computer to windows 10, I get the same error occurring. Ive tried multiple methods but I can not get around it. Nothing happens no matter how long I leave it for, so I have to hard-reset. Once I done that it tries to recover the installation but the same thing happens again so then it just sets me back to windows 7.

Hi, this is my first post so I apologize in advance for any naivete.

Right, so I've been using Windows 10 home without (much) issue for months now, and I decided to do the anniversary upgrade. All is well until it gets to ~75% at which point I blue screen with error

0xC1900101-0x4000D - The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation

This started me off on a long and frustrating journey over the last three days desperately trying everything I could find online to fix the issue, but I'm at the point of giving up, so I figured maybe some kind soul would aid me online.

Thing's I've tried thus far (that I can remember - it's been a lot):
Doing the anniversary upgrade from windows updateDoing the anniversary upgrade via the windows upgrade assistantDoing the anniversary upgrade via ISODoing the anniversary upgrade via ISO from bootable USBReinstalling (not fresh) Windows 10, which yields bsod

0xC1900101-0x2000C - The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation

Ran chkdsk, which fixed a couple corrupt files, but didn't solve the problemRan sfc, which reported no errorsUpdating every driver I could (using DriverMax to identify out of date drivers, but not to install them)Ran driver verifier with all options but low resources simulation on all non-microsoft drivers, which causes a bsod before it gets to login

I have about 15 laptops running Windows 7 Pro SP1 (brand new, just out of the box).  I've been able to install quite a few updates on about 3 of them (just started working on them).  However, now, I'm getting error code 80200011 when I attempt
to install additional "required" updates.
I've tried clearing the BITS queue, deleting softwaredistribution folder and ran SFC and nothing came up as being an issue.  I've searched the net on this issue, but there doesn't appear to be much on this specific problem.  These systems
are behind a proxy server.  I have other (XP, Windows 2003) systems that are able to update, but is there an issue between WIn 7 and some proxy servers?  If so, why would I be able to install some updates?
Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all.

A:Windows 7 Pro - Windows Updates Error Code: Code 80200011

Hi,
Chek that your proxy is configured correctly, and if you can follow these steps to resolve this issue : stop the Windows Update service and make sure that the "Backround Intelligent Transfer Service" and "Cryptographic service" are started and then go to
C:\Windows and rename the software distribution folder to UpdateOLD , and finally restart the Windows Update Service

Previously, I'd gone through a terrible tribulation trying to get my two HP computers from the initial RTM build 10240 to version 1607 Anniversary Update. Spent hours/days trying to troubleshoot it. The only thing that eventually worked was to download a specific ISO file, for version 1511 build 10586.679. I did try updating to 1607 in the next step, but that failed... and I gave up.

Fast forward a couple months, 1607 got pushed to one of my computers successfully. However, the other one ended up failing.

There were many posts about this issue back in the earlier days of people trying to update from RTM 10240. Deja-vu. However, nothing seems to work. I tried downloading the 1607 ISO file and running it... which resulted in the error above after about 1.5 hours. Next, I used the Media Creation Tool to try getting 1607 installed... ran into the same error again.

I did leave the notify Microsoft option in place, so whatever errors were made ended up forwarded to Microsoft. But I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to fix this... or if I'll just have to wait. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello all,

I have a problem with Windows Update agent on Windows 7 SP1 enterprise.
We are using Configuration Manager 1606 and Windows 7 SP1 and about 140 computers works without any problem.
On the other 10 computers I got the following error message in the windowsupdate.log:
WARNING: SyncUpdates failure, error = 0x8024400D, soap client error = 7, soap error code = 300, HTTP status code = 200
WARNING: SOAP Fault: 0x00012c
WARNING:     faultstring:Fault occurred
WARNING:     ErrorCode:InvalidParameters(7)

I've tried several actions although none does any help. Here is the list of actions:
- upgrade windows update agent to the latest version
- windows update agent reset by this instructions https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/971058/how-do-i-reset-windows-update-components
- empty Temporary Internet files
- check the rules and blocked traffic on windows firewall and physical firewall between server and workstation vlan
- sfc /scannow

It looks like significant Windows 7 error, although reinstalling is not my option.

Ok - I'm trying to fix my friends' computer - Toshiba Satellite L455-S5975 running Windows 7 32-bit

Windows firewall is off and I need to "Update Firewall Settings". When I click use recommended settings, I get a message that says it "can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x80070424" I get the same thing when I click on "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" and "Restore Defaults"

When I click on "Advanced Settings" I get "There was an error opening the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap-in" followed by it "failed to load. Restart the Windows Firewall service on the computer you are managing. Error code 0x6D9."

I scanned the computer using both Avast and Microsoft Safety Scanner (full scan and took over 2 hours) - no infections or issues found

I installed all Microsoft updates and followed suggested restarts.

I ran Microsoft Fix It and I get a message that the firewall isn't running or stopped and it can't be fixed.

I have gone into services as an administrator to try and start Windows Firewall...it isn't there - not in the list of services (local)

I also used SlimDrivers to update all the drivers on the computer.

What I am not seeing is how to uninstall and reinstall Windows Firewall...any other program or hardware issue, that would seem to be the easiest solution - but I have yet to see how to do that with Windows Firewall.

I even started the computer in safe mode... Read more

Hi,
I have been having some recurring problems with the attempts to install some automatic windows updates.

Security Update for Microsoft Office Acess 2007
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email Filter

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Next to it an error code 80070643. Microsoft provides a solution to the problem, by re-installing Microsoft NET. Framework. They also provide a link to the program NET. Framework cleanup tool that enables you to uninstall NET. Framework, and it's components.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to solve the issue, though I've been put at a standstill. I have used the NET. Framework Cleanup tool to uninstall NET. Framework and it's components (states that it uninstalls all versions, 1.1 SP1 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5.) Then afterwards instructed to reinstall NET. I start with 3.5, then as the installation starts it says that to contiunue installation I must turn off or on windows features in the Control Panel. I do so and turn off all Windows features. Then continue and it again states to turn off features in the Control Panel.
