I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought a new 6Gen X1 Carbon a few months ago and overall love it. But I'm having trouble getting it to work properly with a dock. So far I've tried two - a Plugable UD-CAM that I use on my desk and an Omars type C hub to use when travelling:https://plugable.com/products/ud-cam/https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074QNYQS9/ Both work fine for connecting a monitor over HDMI and charging the laptop, but none of the other ports work. USB keyboard/mouse dongle, LAN, USB speakers, nothing else seems to come through the dock. Plugging that stuff directly into the USB ports of the laptop works fine. Went through multiple rounds of customer support with Plugable, and they even sent me a replacement dock (had the same problems). Tried both of the USB-C ports on the laptop.  Give that both have similar problems, I suspect it has something to do with a setting or software on the laptop but I can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas?  I do have the Thunderbolt port disabled in the BIOS for security reasons, could that be causing the problem? Running Win 10 version 1803 and Vantage says all drivers are up to date.

Hello, I am considering to buy a new Thinkpad. As I haven't used the Thinkpad for over 20 years, I would appreciate some advice from current users. Here are my requirements: - need to be able to connect to a 4K TV @ 60Hz with Chroma 4:4:4 (TV has HDMI 2.0 port)- compatible with Ubuntu Linux and be able to use eGPU under Ubuntu Linux- has a Thunderbolt 3 port to connect to the eGPU at full 40Gbps speed- ideally below 2kg- about 10 hours battery life and if possible, can change battery easily- if possible no big and heavy AC adapter- good customer support and after sales services- Intel 8 gen (6-core is better but not a must)- no heat/noisy fan/thermal/throttling issue- no scaling issues when using 4K display (both internal LCD and external 4K display)- no scaling issues when the LCD and external 4K monitor are at different resolutions

I've owned my Carbon X1 for a bit over a year and have been experiencing shorter battery life.  It is really noticeable after I shut the computer down with a 50% or less charge. The next time I boot it up the better is almost dead. I checked on Vantage and noticed that it says my battery can only hold 41% of its original charge. The battery only has 64 recharging cycles. I would think the battery should have far more capacity in it after just 64 cycles. Is this normal?

Hello,I have Lenovo X1 Carbon 6gen with i7-8550U docked in the Lenovo Ultra Dock and I just bought three Lenovo P27h lcds. Those LCDs are connected via two displayport connectors. In one displayport connector is one lcd, in second is two lcds in daisy chain configuration. All lcds works but the problem is that on the one is highest availaible resulotion just 1920x1200 or 1920x1080. It is not the problem of lcd or the daisy chain because when I disconnet one lcd I get the proper resolution on it also (2560x1440). According to intel specs it should not be problem of graphics card which should be powerfull enought to handle it. Have anyone have similar issue? Do anyone have an idea how to solve it? Thank you. I'm in need of advice. I have an X1 Carbon 2nd gen with a motherboard that just died last week quite suddenly. I use the laptop for my personal machine and small business and it's been great for me up until this. It's no longer booting and I got a quote from Lenovo service to have the motherboard replaced for ?720 (about $800). It mentions "planar replacement 00UP983". It was purchased in 2015 and is the 20A8 model (i7-4600U(3.3GHz),8GB RAM,256GB Solid State Drive,14in 2560x1440 Touchscreen LCD,Intel HD Graphics,Intel 802.11agn wireless,WWAN,Camera,8c Li-Ion,Win8.1 Pro 64)  In the meantime I just purchased an ASUS ZenBook UX480FD, which is going back to the store to be returned. Hate it. Despite it being quite loaded with nice modern specs, it runs extremely hot, it's heavy, it's thick and bulky feeling and the last straw was that I"m getting blue screen errors and sudden reboots to BIOS even after fresh Windows 10 installs. Reminds me of my old desktop from the late 1990s. It's made me realize I want an X1 Carbon again whether it's having my current one serviced or picking up the new 7th gen or last year's 6th gen. My question is would it be worth having the motherboard replaced by official Lenovo service for the price quote I received? I would plan on still using my X1 Carbon 2nd gen as my go-to machine for at least another 2 years and I assume it would still work for much longer than that. Thanks for any advice.

The adaptive keyboard on my 2014 X1 Carbon appears to be failing. It regularly registers phantom button presses near the right end that trigger (e.g.) the settings or keyboard backlight depending on which strip is active. When it launches the settings window, it happens frequently enough to interfere with use. I found many suggestions to update the bios, e.g.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-20A7-adaptive-keyboard-phantom-butt...I have installed all updates from Lenovo's System Update (the machine is running Windows 10), so the bios should be up to date. Are there any other software fixes I should try? If it is a hardware issue, is itsomething I can do myself? Based on my current usage I could survive with the strip entirely disabled, but I don't see a consumer-facing way to do that. Thanks.

Just purchased X1C7 with 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVMe TLC OPAL. When reading the User Guide, on page 44, I came across this section: Use Power Loss Protection function (for selected models) For models shipped with an NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory express) M.2 solid-state drive, the M.2solid-state drive features the Lenovo-unique PLP (Power Loss Protection) function to avoid dataloss or damage. On very rare occasions, your computer is not responding and you might have to shutdown your computer by pressing and holding the power button for about seven seconds. In this case, the PLP function enables key data of your computer to be saved timely. However, there is no guarantee that all data is saved in any situation. (Emphasis added by me). To check the type of your M.2 solid-state drive:1.  Restart the computer. When the logo screen is displayed, press F10 to enter the Lenovodiagnostics window.2.  On the TOOLS tab, select SYSTEM INFORMATION ? STORAGE using the arrow keys.3.  Locate the Device Type section to check the information.  This is very startling.  I have two questions: 1.    What does this mean to me?  Is my data at risk of loss in case of power failure? 2.    The title of the section is "Use Power Loss Protection......"  Do I have to enable something to USE it, or is it enabled automatically. I've searched the entire Lenovo Knowledgebase, and done google searches for Lenovo PLP, Len... Lenovo Gen 4(20FC) Carbon loses audio after Lenovo System Update We have several of the Gen 4 X1 Carbons here at work and they work fine until Lenovo system updates gets run. If you try to install a different driver, it fails with code 1. No matter if you uninstall, reinstall, different versions of the driver....nothing seems to restore the audio. I finally did a system restore to before lenovo system update was run and the audio returned to working. It seems to be a software problem but I would really like to know if there is some way to get it working without having to restore every time someone runs lenovo system update.

Hello,    I am looking to replace my aging Lenovo T420S and Lenovo x1 Carbon 1st generation. They have both served me well and I am happy with both.  I like the touch of Carbon but don?t use it that often. The machine will be perosnla machine but will be used for personal and business/work use. I saw the T460S and x1 Yoga yesterday at our IT department. I like the built quality of Lenovo T460S including keyboard but found X1 Yoga to be fragile. I couldn?t get my hands on X1 Carbon 4th generation and found out that it doesn?t have touch anymore. The weight difference is minimal between the three machines and I personally like the weight, feel and ruggedness of Lenovo T460S. Bottom line is does anyone have experience with these three machines? I can afford to replace only one machine now and it will be fully loaded (i7, 16GB and 1Tb PCIe-NVME drive). Is x1 Yoga rugged and reliable? The difference between X1 Carbon 4th Gen and T460S seems minimal. Thank You!Subhash

Hello and welcome,

How are the pendrives prepared? What's on the drives?  Are they UEFI or legacy bootable - or both?  Is the X1 boot mode set to UEFI-only, legacy-only, or both?

What actually happens when you try to boot them?  Do they show up in the boot menu?  Do they start to boot?  Is there an error message?

More information, please

After the "e" key, which is most widely used of course, fell out of its holder of my X1Carbon6thGen, I got a new keyboard through the Lenovo Service Desk. However, now I am experiencing the exact same defect, just two months after the new keyboard was installed: Again, the key "e" fell out of its holder, so I have to insert it again manually, which doesn't fix the problem, since it then falls out again after typing for some time. This seems to be a general problem with the keyboards of this notebook - disappointingly. I want to avoid having to replace the whole keyboard every two months just because a single key is defect. I am wondering if I can fix individual keys so they sit better in the holder. Thanks for all clues!

When I wanted to buy a new laptop I did not hesitate in the brand name, the name Lenovo was the first and last choice for me because of the credibility and reliability of the name of Lenovo and the application of leading technology in all their products and most importantly after-sales service, which is enriched by all your customers. For all of the above, I bought the Legion: Y530-15ICH Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 81FV ? A:Lenovo Z500: Replace HDD with SSD

hi Noble,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

The Lenovo Z500's HDD can be upgraded to an SSD drive but it's a bit tricky to replace (see page 41 on the hardware maintenance manual on how to replace the HDD).

Getting an SSD drive will greatly speed overall performance like the 2.5 SATA III SSD Vertex 4, and especially if you make it as a primary drive and install the Operating System and frequently accessed softwares / files there. You can still use the 2.5 SATA HDD by using an external 2.5 SATA enclosure or sacrifice your ODD by putting the HDD there by getting a 9.55mm HDD Caddy (you can get a 9.5mm ODD Enclosure to still use your ODD).

Hope this helps.
