My programs cant access save window- cant save any files!

Q: My programs cant access save window- cant save any files!

Running windows vista home premium 64bit service pack 2Dell inspiron 1545 core2duo 2ghz 4 gig ramI cant pinpoint when it started exactly but all of a sudden some of my programs could not save. An example of this would be in firefox- I right click a photo, select "save image as" and the usual window does not open- nothing happens. Same thing with "save page as" I tried shortcuts ctrl -s nothing happens either. another example would be in adobe flash pro, I select "save as" or "load file" in the file option, nothing happens either. another example is also while accessing forums, emails, or any site that requires loading files- take for examle this forum, Below the posting box is a browse button in the attachments- if I click that nothing happens, no windows pops up. I cant upload anything. Its very hard to pinpoint the exact problem because not all programs have it. Adobe photoshop works fine. Autodesk Maya works fine too. I do not know if its related but at the same time, Internet explorer and Windows media player stopped working entirely and when I install anti-virus programs this shows up: cocreateinstance failed 0x80040154 class not registered also in yahoo messenger news box if i try to click a link, it says catastrophic error. in utorrent if I right click a torrent and select "open containing folder" an error shows "class not registered" again I dont know if it is related in any way to the problem or a whole other can of worms altogether. I've tried malware scans (malwarebytes) - system restore did not work either - I'm not sure if this is a virus or if something just broke in vista. Is there any solution available to me that does not require a full reinstall of vista? Any help or insight into the matter would be much appreciated. thanks- Japheth A.

Preferred Solution: My programs cant access save window- cant save any files!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It does appear to be malware to me.We need a deeper look. Please go here....Preparation Guide ,do steps 6 - 9.Create a DDS log and post it in the new topic explained in step 9,which is here Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs and not in this topic, thanks. If Gmer won't run, skip it and move on.Let me know if that went well.

I have a number of files I would like to try and save off of the disk, and/or I would like to know if there is any saving the hard drive for future use. I record music and use adobe programs for freelance artwork. Also there are a number of pictures I'd love to recover (though as far as I know they're backed up on google drive). The .wavs of some recordings were recent and were not backed up in time before the disk crashed.

I apologize, this is lenghty but i'll throw it all out there.

As best as I can remember this is the sequence of events:
My daughter was born three weeks ago, my wife decided to pop in a usb thumbdrive to save baby pictures to my pc (Dell Optiplex755 refurbished, Win7 32 bit, Intel dual core processors, Seagate 7200.12 Barracuda 1TB hardrive).

A few pictures, unknown to me at the time, were corrupted wither on the flashdrive or the camera's memory card.

After she moved the pictures to the computer it froze, and she restarted.

Windows Desktop Manager crashed, and CPU in task manager was at 100% always.

I ran an error check, and four files were found to be corrupt and fixed (3 photos, 1 reaper file, and 1 system 32 file. (I'm an idiot and I didn't write down the system 32 file.)

After error check, I noticed a yellow exclamation next to optiplex in devices, and I was notified that the driver for my intel processors was not compatible suddenly with windows. I tried to download new optiplex drivers but chrome and internet explorer would fr... Read more

It almost sounds like you got some malware from that USB stick.

If you have a friend with a Linux computer, or have access to one, you can often hook up a non booting drive and recover files that way. I don't know the exact procedure but something like this may help, too:

The computer involved is using Windows 7 Pro 64bit and Office Professional Plus 2010.

I am having a problem I cannot find a solution to. I have one user at a clients location that has recently stopped being able to save excel files in their my documents. The my docs is being redirected to a server. The files open correctly and can be edited, but when save is clicked an error box says the document not saved. Using cntrl-shift-i I found the error code to be 100490. I can open any other file and save them just fine. And any new excel documents can be opened and saved correctly. The file can be saved into the same folder using save as is and the document is renamed. However, the user cannot erase the old file.

Doing some digging I made sure the trust zone was enable for the network path and trusted locations on a network were allowed. They had already been configured.

I checked for the windows update that microsoft reported could fix this problem and it was not installed. I went ahead and tried the hotfix, but it would not run because of the missing update.

I tried changing permissions and ownership. This where it gets strange the user has full control enabled on the folder. On any other folder or file I can right click and view the security tab. However, on the excel files when I click the security tab a red line is displayed that says "This file is currently not available for use on this computer." I know I've done this before. I get on a free wav download site, find a wav file and can't save it.

I've tried playing it in a new window and trying the "file" and "save as" feature, but it is always greyed out and can't be used. Same with right clicking. It greys out the option to "save target". Do I need to change something in my Internet Options or am I just losing it?

Help! and Thanks in advance.

But when I tried to save the doc with or without making changes, the spreadsheet just sits there and saying Saving at the bottom. I waited several miniutes to be saved, but it just sits there. It does not taking any extra resources. On Application event viewer, it just displayes application hang error.

It's likely the game you downloaded was infected with malware. Try using system restore to take your system back to a time before you downloaded the game. Here are some instructions- Using Windows 7 or Vista System Restore - How-To Geek Note: You may have to enter safe mode for this to work in your case. Pressing F8 during boot up will bring you the menu where you can enter safe mode.

Hi all

Just a stupid little problem with W7 I noticed which is VERY confusing but simple to fix.

I changed via the dialog the TEXT SIZE via the screen resolution in the control panel to CUSTOM SIZE.

With one of the newer "Cinema" or Very Wide screen (1680 X 900) displays after I'd increased the text size to over 160 % I didn't get the possibility to SAVE any documents any more via the SAVE AS button. The SAVE dialog would appear but the SAVE button was missing.

The effect was noticed in Office 2007 (all programs) Notepad etc etc.

Seems to be a Windows fault as this should not be allowed to happen.

on more traditional "Squarer" type monitors -- no problem.

I couldn't find the answer by googling but a bit of "trial and Error" fixed the problem.

windows vista home premium x64

It just started when I suddenly could not open windows media player and internet explorer- I thought nothing of it since I dont really use those programs- until I opened adobe flash and attempted to save a project- I clicked save as then the window just popped up and closed by itself (all in a matter of a fraction of a second). I tried it in some of my other programs (zbrush) same thing happened.

Its very hard to troubleshoot since it doesn't happen to adobe photoshop or maya (I can still save). I tried sfc and chkdsk and they dont detect any apparent errors. No one else seems to have any idea what it is. They keep telling me to reinstall windows vista but I just cant afford something that drastic when theres a deadline looming. Any help would be much appreciated.

I dont know if these could be related to the problem:

utorrent- (I right click to open containing folder and it says Class not registered a few seconds later the folder opens anyway)

Yahoo messnger - (I click on a link in the news section pop-up it shows up a "catastrophic failure")

Firefox- I rightclick on an image and select save as- nothing happens.
same thing with facebook uploading photos I click browse and nothing happens

ANY help or insight would be appreciated. i will give you my first born.

Ok guys this is a hard one, I've recently noticed a big problem with my laptop running win7 32 bit, I have tryed everything possible to fix it with no success, the following problems are occouring:

Only certain programs will run, if i run windows games folder explorer.exe crashes, same as if i run performance monitor and other control panel programs, I cant save a file to my computer eg if i open notepad type some text and hit save it just crashes, same with itunes and alot of other software i have, the system is running slower then usual aswell and the only things i have done recently are, a windows update, itunes update and adobe reader update, now ill tell you what i have done to try fix the issue.

I have run ESET Smart security, Malware Byts anti mull ware in safe mode and found no virus / Trojans etc, i have restored windows back to before i done any updates, I've checked registry for exe file association issues ive turned off all firewalls and re-installed most recend windows updates, ive turned off UAC and run a CHKDSC and everything still crashs?

NOTE: im sure its not a file permissions issue as i can save a file i create using photoshop to anywhere on my pc.

Im stuck i normally can fix my issues but i dont have a clue on this one!

Hey guys, sort of a long story so I'll try to keep it has simple has possible.

I have a laptop with a 'remote access' program that accesses my mom's desktop at her work. I am a high school student and need to work on a Power Point for school. The power point is saved on a USB Flash Drive. The laptop doesn't have power point, but my mom's computer at work does.

If I plug in the flash drive, will I be able to use Power Point 2003 from my mom's work, via the remote access program, and save it on the flash drive?

A:Can I save files from remote access PC?

What remote access program are you using?

Another option is to email yourself the file and access it through the remote desktop connection, make your changes, and email it back to yourself, then save it on your flash drive.

My primary user profile is corrupted and I am going to have to reinstall Windows 7. Because I cannot access my old user profile, I cannot start Outlook 2010 and access my email files. However, I have located the Outlook.pst files and have saved copies of them. What I am wondering is, once I have Outlook 2010 installed on the fresh OS install, how can I restore my email and email settings? I suspect that it is far too much to expect that I can just copy the pst files to the proper location. However, without being able to start Outlook, I can't follow the recommended procedures for backing up the mail data.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

A:Need to reinstall Outlook, but can't access it to save pst files

Hi,

Actually, it is as easy as that - the .PST file is independant of Outlook, so once you have reinstalled and opened Outlook with a default mail account, simple replace that .PST with your older one, or setup Outlook to read the older .PST in whatever location you choose.

These might prove useful:
Outlook PST Data Files - Backup
Outlook PST Data File - Move
Outlook 2010 - Copy Existing PST Folders to New PST

Until today my computer, running Windows XP Home Edition, had two user accounts; one for my mother (titled "Nancy Loury") and one for me (titled "Kev"). However I found myself simply using my mothers more often and saw having two accounts when both of us really only use one as redundant. So I decided to delete the Kev user account. The account had all of my very important files in it under My Documents. When I went to delete the account, it of course asked me if I wanted to save the contents of the My Documents folder for the Kev account under a folder labeled "Kev" on the Nancy Loury user's desktop. I of course did want to save them, so I clicked "Save Files", the account was deleted, and on the desktop is the file labeled "Kev" which, according to the system, should hold all the contents of the My Documents from the Kev account. I clicked on the folder and to my horror I found that it was completely empty; the system had not saved a single one of the files in My Documents like I had asked it too and like it said it would do. Nothing is there.

I've no idea why this happened, all I know is I'm extremely upset about this. What do I do to recover the files from the now deleted My Documents?

Hey,

I searched for this but I admit I wasn't overly thorough. So I apologise in advance if this has already been answered.

In some programs (eg. Firefox) the save dialogue window has the Navigation pane on the left. Whereas other programs (eg. Foxit reader, acrobat reader) do not. I find this heavily inconvenient as I use the navigation pane extensively.

I actually went to switch to Acrobat from Foxit and found it also didn't have the navigation pane.

Heres what I mean:

Firefox save dialogue window:

Foxit save dialogue window:

So I was wondering if there is anyway to get the navigation pane in the foxit/other programs save dialogue window.

Thanks
Wally

A:Can you add the "Navigation Pane" to a programs save dialogue window?

The program has to do some COM mumbo jumbo to use system libraries. Notice how these articles mention IFileDialog

Anything with an I stuck on the front of it means you have to mess with a bunch of COM stuff to use it. The 'I' being "Interface."

Windows 7 Libraries and the Common File Dialog

Developing with Common File Dialogs
Bacisally, if you're not getting paid big bucks, it's a lot of hassle for no gain.

(The short answer is you can't stick 'em on someone else's program from outside that I ever heard about.)

Tried opening them from a remote PC and they open just fine. Can't do anything with them on my PC except view them in Visio itself.
I've tried resetting IE settings. Uninstalling IE 11 and going down to 10. Nothing in event viewer for IE.

According to my download history (which I have cleared following other attempted solutions) my last download was 7 days ago. Since then, I have been unable to download files without using a non-browser download manager (I went through a complicated process of transferring a download manager from a USB to see if that fixed the problem - it did insofar as that the download manager works as a replacement for the browser's downloading options). I mainly use Chrome (latest version) but the problem has persisted as I attempted on both Firefox and Internet Explorer (also latest versions). I first noticed this when attempting to use "right-click -> save image as" on a forum which has always and still does allow users to save images. I later found that this inability extends to any file I click to download. Clicking on a file or on "save as" causes nothing to happen, whether I have a download folder set or not, and persists even when changing my download folder, reinstalling Chrome, and clearing my download history, cache, and cookies, as the most common fixes suggest. This issue is also true for clicking on any sort of "Browse..." or "Choose file..." button for uploads, such as when attaching a file to an email or a forum post. The window to select a file simply does not appear, however, I am able to drag-and-drop a file for uploading. These buttons and the process of downloading worked fine when restarting in safe mode, which has me theoriz... Read more

I have windows 7 home premium genuine.

When I purchased ,there was only one drive 'C' but now I want to make partitions , pls inform how can I do that as I also want to install again same window ?

It may increase the system performance.

My laptop specs are ;
Dell inspiron n5110 , core i7 , 4gb ram , 500 gb hard disk , 1gb nvidia graphics.

When I run "Full scan" Mcafee it becomes slow ; how can I improve it ?

A:How do I make partitions in running window or save window

Hi,

You need to shrink the C: partition to smaller size, and then create a new partition in the previously used space - I recommend you use Partition Wizard 7 for this task. Refer to Option 3 here:
Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

If you want to clean install Windows 7, then use this tutorial:
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I would uninstall McCrappee, and replace it with MSE - it is lighter on resources:
Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Hi
I have Outlook 365 on my desktop for emails , calendars and contacts
I use Icloud for Windows to sync my Calendar and Contacts from iphone to desktop or from desktop to iphone.
Was seamless until a few days ago when trying to edit a contact on Outlook it would not allow me to save it
Error message was "Your changes cannot be saved because you don't have permission to modify some or all of the items in this folder. Do you want to save a copy of the item in the default
folder for the item?
I can edit the contact on iphone and it updates though to Outlook on desktop.
Calendar appointments (new and amended/edited) are seamlessly working both ways.
A new contact inputted onto Outlook icloud contact will save but if you then try to add a new number or note then get the above error message.
Please advise

Hi,

I've been searching for most parts of the net and the forums here and did install/uninstall/restore my notepad, paint and wordpad but nothing seems to work.

When these files are opened, nothing seems to be a problem. But whenever you attempt to save by Ctrl+S, or the by clicking File>Save or File>Save As the program automatically closes. This has been a consistent behavior for the 3 softwares.

I'm using Windows XP 64 bit OS and had no error messages of any sort except that these programs just close themselves when a save attempt is done.

I did virus and malware scans by Avast, ESET Nod & Kaspersky and nothing was detected.

Reinstalling isn't an option for me now as I don't have any optical drive... besides, this may be very hard for me but I'm willing to suffer for the sake of learning.

I'd really appreciate your inputs on this matter.
Thanks for all ideas and help ahead!

Trying to figure out a global issue with are new  Windows 7 image at work in IE.  We have old PC's that we are replacing and on the PC's we are using an updated Windows 7 image but has the same IE 11 version 11.0.9600.18738CO on both images.
The difference though is that there is no security prompt to open PDF files on the old image.  On the new one we get the prompt to Open, save or save-as and trying to find a way to remove it.  Our guy that built the image did not set the Group
Policy intentionally if there is one for this.  I can't find a way to remove the prompt in GPedit.msc, missing the "Launching applications and unsafe file" is missing but yet i see the option under security settings in IE.  The radio buttons
are grayed out from making changes in that window.

Any thoughts?

One of my user is having this problem on her Windows XP PC:

Dell GX260 with Windows XP Professional running 512MB RAM, Office XP, Acrobat 5.0

When opening a Word file & edited in Word XP, the user cannot SAVE or use SAVE AS the file, when try to exit out the file, get prompt to either SAVE, CLOSE, or CANCEL the file, at that point it will still not save the file, the only way to exit the file is to hit CLOSE to exit.

I initially thought this might be a Word Xp problem, so I ran the repair tool in Office XP, that did not fix it.

I then uninstalled Office XP, reinstalled Office XP, but that also did not fix the problem.

I then ran the Office update to download the latest patches from MicroSoft, but that also did not fix the problem.

I then UNINSTALLED Acrobat 5.0 from the PC, that FIXED the problem.

WITHOUT Acrobat 5.0 on her PC, the user was now able to open & edit a Word file, and able to SAVE the edited file, also able use SAVE AS to save the file as a new copy.

I then reinstalled Acrobat 5.0 thinking the previous copy of Acrobat 5.0 on the PC might be corrupted, as soon as Acrobat 5.0 was back on the PC, the same problem with the SAVE feature came back in Word XP.

I then installed the patch update for Acrobat 5.0, that did not fix the problem.

At this point, I am out of clues on how to fix it....The user tried Acrobat 6.0 before on the same PC, but decided to reverse back to Acrobat 5.0 because of format problem with 6.0.......so Acrobat 6.0 is no... Read more

I am not sure how to explain this, Up until last week, whenever I download something and save as to a folder, it becomes really slow and my brower freezes for 1 minute ish. I checked my processor and ntoskrnl.exe is the program thats taking most of the physical memory.

I am not sure exactly is going on. I did try to scan with malware and antivirus, but nothing showed up.

Any ideas?

A:Window becomes really slow when opening a save as window.

Hello Faering Welcome to the Ten Forums!

Quite annoying isn't it?! I run into that enough at times simply having a second browser window kept option. Suddenly everything will suddenly freeze up! I ran into that with IE 8, 9, 10, 11 as well as with Waterfox the first 64bit variant of Firefox as well as with Cyberfox, the latest 64bit FF versions, and other browsers as well not being a result of any malwares! At times between the host ISP and sites as well as the browser itself things will tend to bog down.

The download or other sites may be seeing heavier traffic at the time you go to download some new app and explain why a site is slow going. Your ISP(Internet Service Provider) could be seeing heavier then usual traffic as well which can explain slow downs as well. A combination of browser issues, slow down of host provider, and other sites put together is trouble!

With regard to clearing lists of [recently opened and/or saved] file names in Windows file dialog boxes, Orbital Shark had described the following procedure (from his 01 Nov., '10 post-) How to Clear This Dialog Box ? :

"If you want to selectively clear the Common Dialog file names MRU, you need to delete these two registry keys manually:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ ComDlg32 \ LastVisitedPidlMRU

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ ComDlg32 \ OpenSavePidlMRU"

My question is as follows (and it is probably a silly one, therefore please bear with me and thank you):

Is the prescribed procedure to delete the *actual keys* ("LastVisitedPidlMRU" & "OpenSavePidlMRU"), or instead to delete the *contents* of those keys? i.e.: Should I select/highlight the key within the left panel of the Regisgtry Editor, and then select delete; or should I select/highlight the key within the left panel, and then select/highlight in the right panel all the contents of that respective key, and then delete all those contents (not the actual key itself) indicated in the right panel?

Thanks much for your patience and for your help! Win

A:Residual File Names in Save/Save As Dialog Boxes

Hello Windough, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Deleting those actual keys would work best. If you like, the tutorial below will help you do this automatically instead of having to manually do it in regedit.Common Dialog Boxes - Clear Dropdown List of Recent Files History
In addition, you might look at this tutorial if you do not want to have this history kept.Common Dialog Boxes - Enable or Disable Dropdown List of Recent Files
Hope this helps,

Rename Normal.dotm
Run office diagnostics

and run Mr. Fixit.

I hope this saves you some time. I spent over 2 hours.

While I have sent feedback into Microsoft, I thought I might post here aswell.
In IE9 when you click a download, a pop-up from the bottom asks 'Do you want to open or save file.xxx from x.com' then gives you the option to 'Open' 'Save' or 'Cancel'
During testing, we found that users would just click 'Save' then not know where the file they downloaded went. After explaining that it was in the downloads, they complained that previously they just chose where to save the file and it saved there. Now they
have to open downloads and copy paste to the location.
We could teach the users to always drop down and select 'Save as' but I can tell you it would be a lot easier if there was a group policy, or a default we can change so the default was 'Save as'
Other than that, I have no complaints :D.

It constantly freezes (every 3rd or 4th time I save during an editing session) on save or save as....have to reboot the program. Happens on all docs. Looked this issue up online, the "solutions" didn't work for anyone. I uninstalled/reinstalled to no avail....it was solid for 3 days, now back to freezing. Any ideas?

Is there any way to set the default save location folder for downloads in IE8 to the last folder that the same file type was saved in? It makes no sense to default to a single folder and have to browse through to the desired folder for every single download, so I assume there has to be an option somewhere.

A:Setting default save location to last save folder

Limited choice here. Pictures (right click, save picture as) will save to My Pictures. Else, right click save will save to the last folder used.

No other option by file type.

But,you can do this... Adding Entries to the Standard Context Menu

Firstly, my employee's are running into a problem where they cant save their files because the file is "in use" according to windows 7.

What i've narrowed it down to is the fact that windows uses the files to display details or even a preview of the file whether it be a thumbnail or a window pane preview of the file or even simple details barring it from saving the file after it is opened, edited, and ready to be saved.

I have disabled all the obvious frills that might be conflicting such as: "file previews, show thumbnails etc." just cant quite get this resolved.

Also, windows 7 and its short term memory loss wont allow some of my employees to save their favorite folder views (I understand that windows 7 tried to implement a more functional window mode, allowing users to have multiple view for their different folders) but the "pick one and stick with it option" of "Apply to all folders" the obvious approach doesnt work. Or merely works for a few days then reverts. I've seen regedits about changing the "bag size" and such but that looks a little more involved than i want to get with the registry, also potentially affecting something in the process.

Any tips?

Ok either I'm dumb or something is very very wrong with W7 UI.Try this (edited):1. Right click on the desktop and choose New folder.  Name it "left side".2. Make another new folder on the desktop called "right side".3. Open the 1st folder "left side" and move/size it so it's on the left side of the screen.4. Open the 2nd folder "right side" and move it so it's on the right side of the screen - NOT OVERLAPPING OR TOUCHING THE FIRST FOLDER AT ALL!5. Close both windows.6. Open both windows again.  Ooops, that's not where I put them!

How to save printer ink on Window 7?

A:How to save printer ink on Window 7?

Depends on your printer, and your choices in "Preferences".
* Always choose "Draft" or "Fast" mode when printing anything that doesn't need top-notch document quality.
* On my Epson printer, I leave it switched on at all times. Otherwise, switching it on from off always goes through some ink-wasting "cleaning" function.
